Garden
Historical landmark
Walmer Castle and Gardens is a historic site with an impressive Tudor castle commissioned by King Henry VIII. The castle's interiors offer a glimpse into a bygone era, including the private apartment of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. The eight-acre award-winning gardens feature formal and informal designs, herbaceous borders, sculptured hedges, and a flourishing kitchen garden. Visitors can also explore a play trail in the woodland with climbing nets and wildlife sculptures.
English Heritage site originally built by Henry VIII as a defensive fort, but later became a stately home, including for the Lord Wardens of the Cinque Ports. There are two apartment sections, lovely gardens, cafe, and shop to see. We spent a little over an hour, but could’ve spent more if visiting the cafes or sitting in the gardens. Apartments have two separate parts: 1. Main house, which has six rooms over two floors, including the room where Duke of Wellington died. Significant focus on him plus a few other historic wardens info. Little signage about the rooms, though some objects are marked. Definitely speak to the volunteers for more details. 2. Warden apartments, which are more modern as built in the 1870s and decorated in 20th century. Up one flight of winding stairs and some signs on top. A little less interesting from historical context but still worth seeing. Note: No photos allowed inside, which is disappointing. Gardens are accessed through the house and larger, more varied than expected. Both lovely manicured gardens and wild, forested areas. A few benches and picnic tables to enjoy the scenery. Cafe, clean toilets, and a well-stocked shop (with used bookstore in the shop’s basement) provide a nice visit. Car park is on the grass just a two minute walk from the entrance.

We visited as part of a weekend getaway. The castle itself is relatively modest in size and resembles more of a grand house than a traditional fortress, but the gardens were undoubtedly the highlight of the visit. Expansive and beautifully maintained, they featured a wide variety of flowers in bloom. I particularly enjoyed exploring the gardens, and we also appreciated the on-site cafe and restaurant. We tried the lemon cake from the cafe, which was wonderfully moist and delicious.
Rifa A — Google review
Lovely converted Henry VIII castle into more of a stately homes, but still had a castle feel. Also now allowed into the apartments where the Queen Mother and other Lord Wardens used to spend time. This is where Wellington died as he was also Lord Warden here, Walmer being a important important Cinque port. Very pretty gardens to wander through as well, especially the moat garden and the marvellous cloud hedge. Definitely worth a visit.
Valerie H — Google review
Lovely castle and gardens. Went on castle tour with Leslie, she was very knowable of the castle in the tudor period. Gardens were pretty. Cafe food was reasonably priced, tasty and home made. Would recommend we had a lovely day out.
Terina E — Google review
Beautiful gardens and lovely castle with great history, try and choose a dry day as the grounds are lovely. All the volunteers were knowledgeable and the cafe was well stocked and reasonably priced
Roger R — Google review
A wonderful place to visit, featuring a beautiful garden with stunning views and a very peaceful atmosphere. You can watch children playing in their designated area, and enjoy delicious food served at the tea room and the garden coffee shop.
Luciana J — Google review
Beautiful grounds and interesting history. The guides in the castle wete knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Lovely walks in the grounds suitable for most walking abilities though some areas have a number of steps.
Carole L — Google review
We only got to see the gardens, because of time constraints, but they're worth a visit on their own. Although they're not extensive, they are packed with interest. The gardening team do a fantastic job of maintenance and there's not a weed to be seen. We'll soon get back to see the castle itself which promises to be full of surprises. In contrast to Deal Castle's spartan defensive role, Walmer became a comfortable, quirky residence.

Deal Castle, a 16th-century artillery fortress with massive circular bastions designed for cannons, is a must-visit in Kent. Managed by English Heritage, this historic site near the charming village of Deal was constructed during Henry VIII's reign to protect the coastline from French invasions. Visitors can explore underground passages and enjoy interactive activities for children while taking in breathtaking sea views from the castle walls.
Today, my friend and I visited Deal Castle, which is on Marine Road in Deal, a small town by the sea in Kent. The castle was built by King Henry VIII to protect England from a possible attack by Catholic countries in Europe. It’s not the biggest castle, but it’s still very impressive and nearly all of it is original. Only a few parts have been repaired, and those have been done carefully to match the old style. We drove from East London, and it took us a bit more than two hours to get there. The weather was lovely, and we really enjoyed both the sunshine and the drive. There’s a car park right next to the castle. If you’re a member of English Heritage, you can park for free by showing your car sticker and getting a free ticket from the machine. If you’re not a member, you’ll need to pay. There’s a 3-hour time limit for all cars in the car park. At the castle, we walked along the battlements and enjoyed the great views of the English Channel. There are also public toilets available. If you’re interested in English history, or just want to visit a unique old place by the sea, Deal Castle is worth seeing. You can spend around an hour exploring and learning about the past.

A delightful little castle with a very lovely informative volunteer guide on the day we went. Lots of information about the castle in the display rooms and great fun walking around the dark and gloomy rounds at the bottom of the castle.
Valerie H — Google review
A fascinating structure, packed with history. There's free parking for English Heritage members and knowledgeable staff to answer all your questions. There isn't a cafe, but I can recommend the King's Cafe, just a few minutes away in Deal.
Peter C — Google review
Beautiful and unique castle built by Henry the Viii to repel a possible invasion from France. Neil who was one of the volunteers was very approachable and answered our questions and was very knowledgeable about the history of the castle. It's free entry for English Heritage members as well as the parking as long as you display your membership sticker and parking meter ticket.

Nestled on the Kent coastline, Deal Castle is a truly captivating historical site that offers a fantastic day out for the whole family. This remarkable fortress, built in the distinctive shape of a Tudor rose, is not only a monument to England's past but also a brilliant and engaging place for children to explore. Its unique design, with its circular layout and interconnected rooms, makes it feel like a real-life maze, sparking the imagination of young adventurers. Part of a series of coastal artillery forts constructed by King Henry VIII, Deal Castle was built in the 1530s to protect the Downs, a sheltered anchorage in the English Channel, from the threat of French invasion. Its strategic location and formidable design were key to its purpose, and visitors can still appreciate the ingenuity of its construction. Wandering through the castle, you can imagine the soldiers who once manned its battlements, ready to defend the kingdom. One of the most exciting aspects for children is the opportunity to run around the open-air courtyard and climb the steps to the top of the ramparts. From here, they can take in the stunning panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding landscape, just as the lookouts would have centuries ago. The underground tunnels and dark, winding passages are a highlight, creating a sense of mystery and adventure. The castle's layout is perfect for a game of hide-and-seek, and the interactive exhibits and audio guides bring the history to life in a way that is both educational and fun. Adding to its historical significance, Deal Castle is situated incredibly close to the point where Julius Caesar is believed to have launched his first invasion of Britain in 55 BC. This connection to such a pivotal moment in ancient history adds another layer of intrigue to the visit. The proximity to this ancient landing site provides a tangible link between the castle's Tudor history and the much older, Roman past of the area. Overall, Deal Castle is an excellent choice for a family outing. Its accessibility, fascinating history, and engaging layout make it a perfect place for children to learn about England's past in a hands-on and memorable way. From the stories of Henry VIII to the shadows of Roman legions, this unique coastal fortress is a historical treasure that truly has something for everyone.

Visited Deal Castle which is part of English Heritage. Good place to visit along the coast and see Walmare Castle not too far away from Deal where they held the defences to ward off the French. Walmer Castle is the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports – five places that were all formerly major ports on the south-east coast of England. Lords Warden were highly influential figures, with important military and political powers. The role exists to this day, although it is now purely ceremonial. The Queen mother used to stay at the Lords Warden residence and brought with her 14 members of staff and her own curtains!!
Karen E — Google review
A stout Tudor castle commissioned by Henry VIII as part of a long line of sea defences located at intervals along the entire south coast of England. Deal Castle's low profile and circular towers are typical of these Tudor defences, and would have helped it remain hidden from invading forces. The relatively unassuming appearance hides an impressively large interior, with numerous rooms and tunnels to explore. The deepest of the passages can be flooded in areas so bring robust footwear if you're planning to explore it. Family friendly exhibits inside cover the castle's history and stories of those who occupied it, while guided tours run at intervals for those interested in learning more. Facilities are good, with a decent size onsite parking area, gift shop and toilets. The castle is in a prime position overlooking the channel, a few minutes walk from the centre of town. Tickets can be booked on the day, but there's a discount for booking in advance online. Adult tickets are £9, not unreasonable for what there is to see. Walmer Castle, a former royal residence with attractive gardens, is about 25 minutes walk south along the coast.

Deal Pier is a historic and beloved destination in Deal, originally built in 1838 and extended to over 1000 feet with a 300-meter extension into the sea. Visitors can enjoy stunning 360-degree views of the seafront, coastline, and even France on clear days. The town also boasts a fantastic beach that is perfect for all seasons, offering ample space for everyone including dogs.
Really nice pier with a nice cafe at the far end. Loads of people fishing off the side. Loads of seating should you want to stop and take in the view. When we got here it easy very mists but today it has cleared and there is a much better view. There seems to be plenty of people around all day. There is a lower part of the pier at the far end the is currently closed for maintenance. Looks like it would be good for fishing.
Steve T — Google review
We went there for fishing and successfully caught one Pollock fish 🐟 It was a good place to roam around and for fishing. The pier was quite good and peaceful. People usually come here for fishing purposes. And yeah, there's a cafe to enjoy your coffee with a sea view.

Good clean Beach and lots of attractions. The beach is stretched along with long walking road. Parking was easily available. The day I visited, there was a vintage car show, and I loved to see some beautiful collections of cars.

Fresh windy and sunny. Great weather for a Sunday walk along Walmer and Deal seafront. Called into the cafe at the end of Deal Pier for a coffee & ciabatta. Lovely cafe, which was busy, but opted to their take away shack

Beautiful seaside town. clean, large beach, lots of walking paths. It is also worth the underground tunnel (the price is not high), part of the tunnel is free up to a certain point. The botanical garden, something like a greenhouse, is also a nice place for a walk, a great place to file. Great views, flowers everywhere, we loved it. It was very windy that day, but overall it was beautiful

Safe, wheelchair accessible and people are always friendly here. Great views, posh restaurant and a must visit if you’re in Deal.
Tom K — Google review
Traditional pier giving good views back to the historic seafront and across to Thanet on a clear day. A small gift shop and a fishing supplies shop sit either side the entrance, and at the end there's a high end café with indoor and outdoor seating. The pier is well maintained, with attractive flowerbeds and a sculpture at the entrance. Access is step free, with plenty of benches and sheltered seating available along the length of the pier. There are public toilets at the far end of the pier. It's a very popular fishing spot, while the Deal Pier Kitchen is great for enjoying refreshments over the sea. The pier's utilitarian appearance sets it apart from others, not a beautiful structure but one that is easily recognised.
Andrew T — Google review
Not only do I love walking along this Pier I also love Deal as it’s so charming and colourful. I usually ride through Deal as there’s lots to see and thankfully there are benches everywhere for those much needed rest periods. The end of the pier is my favourite place as you can see the sea underfoot and the sound of the water splashing against the concrete beams is very soothing and relaxing to sit and listen to. There’s generally loads of fisherman but it’s a nice walk with lots of lovely scenery from all directions. Chip shops and ice cream parlours are plentiful. Deal has a lovely town with quite a few shops and outdoor cafes perfect in the summer and there’s some quaint pubs too with outdoor seating so you can chill wherever you like and watch the world go by. 😊

Breakfast restaurant
Deal Pier Kitchen in Kent has gained a strong reputation as an excellent brunch establishment and is renowned for its bottomless brunch offering. Priced at just £35 per person, this deal includes a snack platter, the choice of either a brunch or lunch dish, a dessert, and ninety minutes of unlimited alcoholic beverages. This represents great value for money. Furthermore, the restaurant's menu boasts delicious options such as saganaki.
Delicious food! The lobster and crayfish benedict is worth every penny. One of the best coffees I've had in England as well and the staff were very friendly. It was a bit busy and the food and coffee still arrived quickly.

A lovely restaurant with a beautiful view of the sea - or the coastline, if you’re seated by the window. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, especially with the natural light coming in. The staff were incredibly polite and friendly. It was a real pleasure to talk with them and get their help. Service felt warm and welcoming from start to finish. We ordered the lobster roll. It was tasty and nicely prepared. However, don’t expect a strong lobster flavour - it was more about the overall mix than the seafood itself. Dog friendly.

Great cooked breakfast here. Very clean and airy, with nice views of the passing boats and occasional seal. We had the DPK breakfast and Vegan breakfast. With were very good quality. Coffee was good, and the cakes looked great, but didn't try them this time. Staff are very courteous and efficient. Nice spot to watch the anglers on the pier too.

We started a long weekend in Deal with lunch at Deal Pier Kitchen and returned for brunch on our final day. It doesn’t take bookings, but a short wait on the pier is well worth it. Food is prepared promptly and very well presented. I had smoked salmon and avocado on toast on our first visit, then a sausage sandwich for brunch. I couldn’t fault either, nor can you fault the setting and views!
Adam P — Google review
It's a little bit pricier because of its location but it's a welcome stop at the end of the pier with great views in any direction. The menu had just changed that day so I missed out on my planned Korean chicken burger instead choosing duck confit. It was well cooked and tasted nice but was a bit small as a portion. Service is excellent and attentive. I will definitely visit again next time I'm in Deal.

Stopped at the take away shack at 11.30 am this morning and they had already sold out of almost all the pastries/cakes. Disinterested staff but great views. Would have spent more if they had been able to offer something more than just a hot drink.

Having been for brunch before (and tried the excellent lobster Benedict and crab crumpet) we returned on Friday for the steak and lobster night. What an absolute treat and a gem of an evening. The food was superb and we were excellently looked after by Ben. The best meal I’ve had in ages. Would highly recommend and the restaurant is dog friendly all day into the evening 10/10

Stopped by Deal Pier Kitchen on a hot day and enjoyed a flat white alongside harissa chickpea flatbread. The flatbread had great flavor—nicely balanced without being too spicy. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the staff were friendly. A lovely spot to grab a refreshing drink and a tasty bite. Highly recommend!

We were Very impressed with Salentino's. Yes they need extra waiting staff but really the food more than compensates for slow service. The truffle burger was something else and the sweet potato fries were the best I have had. Tad heavy on the salt but let's not split hairs, this is great food. Wouldn't hesitate to make a return trip. The proof of it being was every table booked up in advance.

We've been to Deal three times and have been to Salentinos each time. Lovely spot across the road from the Pier but we come back because the food is awesome and, frankly, they should charge more for it. Risotto, Carbonara both delicious but the lemon posset is amazing. Other desserts are available of course. If you're in the area book a table, you won't regret it.
Sultan V — Google review
Initial waiter asked if we wanted drinks, which we duly ordered, he then stands ther waiting for an order for food, we nicely said we would like drinks first. The beer was cold and very nice, but my wife’s coke was plonked unopened next to the glass of ice, apparently for us to open… which we did, when I asked the waiter if we had to open it he said sorry and walked off. I would like to point out at this time that I never asked for a discount or implied it in any way during the course of the worst meal I have had in Deal. My wife is on a strict diet of no carbs and ordered a burger with no bun and no chips, she was offered an optional salad to replace this , which was a nice offer. When the burger turned up, there was just the contents of what would have been in the normal burger… all still good as we weren’t particularly bothered. However the onion on the burger, in the pic was clearly not at its best, it was removed from consumption and placed on the side. The poor waitress who asked how the meal was unfortunately got a response she wasn’t expecting, but coped well as we asked to speak with the manager. When he eventually turned up at the table I explained that the salad offered wasn’t forthcoming and that the onion was passed it’s best, he proceeded to tell me the onion was fresh!!! I reiterate that at no time did I ask Or want a discount. The bill was presented in an old disintegrating faux leather wallet, which actually matched the dirty and menus also pictured with food and what ever else was stuck to them. The manager was getting very agitated and we had an exchange of words in which to be honest I shouldn’t have rises to. But to be told after I had paid full price for a very mediocre meal to be told , THANKS AND DONT COME BACK IS BOTH AN INSULT TO ME AND TO A RESTAURANT WE HAVE BEEN GOING TO SINCE ITS INCEPTION. There is no excuse for poor service when that is what your business depends on. NEVER GOING BACK

I booked a table for 5pm, to meet a friend I haven't seen in a few months. Myself and my friend felt safe, and we were the only ones in the restaurant which we loved. The food was really good, and the pudding was great too. The waitress was welcoming, friendly and attentive. I recommend this place and will go back.

Lovely food accompanied with great service! I had the penne con pollo which was really tasty and I enjoyed it very much; the service was exceptional considering how busy it was, with minimal waiting time. Would recommend to others for sure.

I had a really enjoyable lunch with my friend today. Unlike other restaurants this restaurant is open both Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes. The view from the restaurant is looking out over the pier and sea. Our food duck for main course and dark chocolate for dessert was very well presented and delicious. This was my first visit - I will definitely be returning.

Fish and chips takeaway
The Blue Mermaid Fish Bar is a delightful gem that has recently come under new ownership, and it’s quickly making waves as one of the top fish and chip shops in the southeast. Known for its homemade tartare sauce, this spot serves up cod and chips that are simply unbeatable. Visitors rave about the friendly and attentive staff who enhance the overall dining experience. The food here is consistently cooked to perfection, with fresh ingredients that shine through in every bite.
My friend Valerie and I really enjoyed our portion of fish and chips. We sat inside the restaurant and loved the atmosphere with a dad and children playing on the piano. The fish and chips were freshly fried so delicious. Thank you. We shall return to your establishment when in Deal.😀

Under new ownership since my last visit. Staff polite, friendly and attentive. Update.......open and fast becoming the best fish and chip shop in the south east, excellent produce and a must when im down visiting from London........... Definitely the best cod and chips I've had for a long time. Tryed this place after being disappointed with a competitor on the seafront which normally use. Will only use this fish and chip shop now! Perfect fish and batter and some delightful chips. Good portions and Really good curry sauce as well. Staff friendly, attentive and helpful. Definitely highly recommend.
Kevin S — Google review
We arrived in Deal for a long weekend and searched for a fish and chips shop that also does gluten free as i am allergic to wheat. My friends had a lovely selection delivered and I was a bit sceptical of mine as it wasn't labeled which is unusual but it did look a different batter so I thought it should be ok. I was wrong!. The haddock i ordered was def NOT gluten free. On calling i was informed it was cooked in the same fryers so obviously even if the batter is different it will still be contaminated in the fryers. A lot of people dont take this seriously enough so please note that even though the batter may be gluten free as soon as it's put in the same fryer as other batter you're causing severe problems for those who are coeliac.

Ordered delivery of large cod, chips and curry sauce and I have to say, best fish and chips we’ve had for a very long time! Cod was white and flakey, chips were perfectly salted, just spot on for flavour, well worth the money. Would highly recommend and will be ordering again soon, thank you ☺️

Delicious fish and chips, but we were disappointed that the malt vinegar wasn’t real - the lookalike ‘non-brewed condiment’ contained E numbers, food colourings and no actual vinegar. A real shame to add ultra processed ingredients to traditional food 👎

No Longer Operating - Wellingtons was a popular cafe located in a prime spot overlooking the pier and coastline. It offered excellent produce, serving fresh and delicious dishes, including delightful sausages. The cafe was known for being the best place for breakfast with refillable tea and friendly, attentive staff. Customers enjoyed a varied menu catering to all tastes, with generous portions of roast meals and an excellent selection at reasonable prices. The atmosphere was relaxed, with helpful and friendly staff providing swift and extremely friendly service.
All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was amazing, I highly recommend the breakfast burger. I would definitely be coming back here again when I visit Deal

I am from Deal but live abroad for work. A highlight of visits home for numerous years has been breakfast with my family at Wellingtons. Today was one of those occasions, however the quality, flavour and attention to detail left with the previous tenant. On a sunny Sunday morning in Deal, it would have been typical to have to queue for a table in Wellingtons but not today and nor shall there ever be a queue again if the quality of their food does not improve. I leave with an overwhelming taste of grease in my mouth and a feeling of disappointment having over paid for the lowest quality, poorly cooked produce. The previous tenant "made changes to elevate the original café image as a bit of a greasy spoon"... but as they say what goes up must come down and I would say the "elevator" is currently in the basement.

After a sunny stroll & a dip in the sea at Deal, lunch was required ! After dismissing other options, Wellingtons was just the job! A varied menu that catered for all tastes!- I asked what was on or not available & was told, "You can have anything!" I went for the roast of the day , which was ham & pork with proper crackling & masses of vegetables & lovely small roasted potatoes!- my partner, who is vegetarian, had an aubergine lasagne with massive wedges & salad - all freshly cooked & very reasonably priced! The staff were very good (ran down the road after me to return my phone!) The Scottish owner had a good sense of humour! Definitely worth a visit!

Always busy because it's brilliant. Fantastic friendly place and the Wellington breakfast (my pic attached) is just lush. Dog friendly, easy to find and just great.

Great cafe on a perfect location over looking the pier and coast line. Produce is excellent, serving fresh and delicious dishes. Lovely sausages sold here which is always pleasing to me. In my opinion this beats all the local competitors to be the best place to use for breakfasts and with refillable tea. Staff friendly, pleasant and attentive. Cafe clean. Parking at rear in a good size local council car park. Fairly easy to get a table today but can get extremely busy in the summer months, there may be a small wait for a table but definitely worth the wait.

Food was great and service was swift and extremely friendly. Having eaten here a few times over the years, it has improved so much since its new ownership and I would recommend. Only downside, it would be great if you could book as it gets super busy.

A nice relaxed atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff. Good food at reasonable prices and excellent service. An excellent selection of meals at reasonable prices. A great place to kick start your day with a nice breakfast. The new Wellingtons with the same great menu. Great food at good prices. Friendly staff, great views. A must when I'm Deal.

Restaurant
Nestled in a charming locale, "The Rising Sun" is a delightful pub that promises an inviting atmosphere and delicious food. After trying other spots, we stumbled upon this gem where the chef initially paused orders due to high demand but ultimately served up some incredible dishes. The Sunday lunch portions were generous and satisfying, with everyone at our table enjoying their meals thoroughly. Upon arrival, we felt warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and locals who were eager for a chat.
What a great pub with a lovely staff. Also the locals were very friendly and in for a chit chat. Relaxed atmosphere! But... the food was also great and very delicious! So don't look further, this is the right spot for a few pints, food and a good atmosphere.

We stopped by this after having been to 2 other pubs (those two were booked fully), and when we entered here the chef wasn't taking anymore orders because of high volume of food being ordered. While we waited out looking to go somewhere else to eat the chef decided to serve us food and oh boy was it good. The portion of my Sunday lunch was massive and amazing. My husband had the scotch eggs and my two children ate from the kids menu and trust me when I say my kids and husband ate everything. I couldn't eat any dessert because I was stuffed to the brim but everything was soooo good. Would definitely book in advance because it gets fully round mid day. And visit this place when in kent. What a beautiful pub. Staff were so friendly and calm. Thank you for a lovely visit, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Was there for my cousin's 70th birthday party. The food drink and atmosphere were exceptional. Well done. Came down from Scotland.

We arrived and instantly felt welcome — maybe a bit too welcome. The barmaid was polite, but that’s about where the service ended. We were politely informed that there were no more fish in the sea — both literally and metaphorically. The menu may as well have read: "Lower your standards or leave." With no table service, we became our own waiters — only to be told to hurry up with our orders, as if time slots were tight for disappointment. While we waited the next twenty minutes, we sat outside and were treated to story time from the neighbouring table, who appeared to be halfway through a care-home night out and reliving every war memory they'd ever heard secondhand. Inside wasn’t much better. Someone had evidently tripped while carrying a tin of varnish and generously shellacked the tables. We spent most of our evening unpeeling our playing cards from the surface like we were performing pub surgery. Then came the food. We had to send back the hockey puck that had been struck and wedged between two slices of bread pretending to be a burger. And the sticky toffee pudding? It was as dry as the inner sole of Aunt Bessie’s night slipper, and probably just as flavoursome — a culinary war crime. A pint of Coke cost roughly the same as a two-bed semi, and by the third round of Guinness, we were filling out applications for payday loans. To round off the evening, we were nearly mowed down by a convoy of drunk great-grandads behind the wheels of their mobility cars, joyriding home after their victorious game of bridge."

I dined at this pub and it was great. The food was excellent, and I highly recommend trying their delicious Scotch Egg, a true specialty. The service was friendly and attentive, making the visit even more enjoyable. The interior was comfortable and inviting.

Nestled in the heart of Kent, Betteshanger Park is a delightful destination that seamlessly blends outdoor adventure with family-friendly fun. This innovative park is part of the Betteshanger Sustainable Parks initiative, emphasizing renewable energy while providing an array of activities for visitors. Families can enjoy a vibrant play area filled with exciting features like rope walks, slides, and climbing frames that keep children entertained for hours.
This was a beautiful park which we found lovely and very accommodating. The scenery is sublime and it’s perfectly tailored for walks, jogs and cycling. The atmosphere is pleasant and it certainly is in a choice location, not too remote or divorced from neighbouring villages. Well maintained grounds and a very pleasant place. Highly recommended!

Really good place for the kids and family to go. We went on the e-bike trek. It £12 per adult for an hour. Big corse. You can take a picnic and stop. Play area for the little ones. Thay also had a cow boy and girls country live music on. Loads of people dressed up.

Lovely discovery in Kent, England. A little tricky to find as it it is not in the village Betteshanger which was confusing and is very much outside the area. Great discovery and great re use of the coal mining area. Lots of parking provided as your time has to be paid for. Bikes available for hire to go around the cycling circuit provided. Interesting museum which is free to view and was a great insight and tribute to all the coal miners and people involved in extracting the coal from the deep ground. Very much enjoyed the restaurant with its mining connection vibe and the food, which was very tasty and reasonably priced. Toilets provided just outside the restaurant. There are all sorts of events taking place throughout the year which are posted, such as music festivals in the park and it's great just for walking around. Definitely going back for another day out to discover more. Staff were very helpful and polite.

We always have a great time riding at Bettshanger. The mountain bike trails have really improved from previous years, and are now well maintained. The newly extended red route is great fun to ride. The ladies at E-Flow Cycles are very lovely, and are really passionate about encouraging more women to get out there on their bikes (me being one of them), which I totally support. The young chap that works on bike hire is always happy to help and answer any questions. The cakes at the Bikes & Bakes are delicious! Very impressed to see a gluten/dairy free option. The VC Deal kids club on a Saturday morning is fantastic! Both our children used to ride with the club when they were younger, and they still go back to join the group for a ride, when they can. A big shout out to the coaches who give up their Saturday mornings, come rain or shine, to take the kids out. Fantastic value! I'd definitely recommend a visit to the park if you love cycling, fresh air, cake and a friendly welcome from the E-Flow Cycles Team and VC Deal. Well done guys!

First of all I would like to say what a lovely day out and about, especially for the children. Secondly I had a lovely, polite server called Keira and she catered very professionally to all of my family. No matter how busy she was, she handled everything in an efficient and timely manner. The food was fantastic, the chefs are very talented and the menue is great, I would suggest the Sunday BBQ menue with the Texas BBQ Shortrib. I would 10/10 recommend.

Went specifically to visit the kids playground, June 2025. It is severely lacking shade and the slides were baking in the midday sun, so it was too hot to use. The grounds itself were fine. Big space, lots of parking, lacks any type of shade. We could not stay long due to heat, drove to the beach instead which was much nicer during this heatwave. Perhaps better during spring or autumn when it is not too hot. The bike hire looked great but we did not use this facility on this occasion.

The Astor Community Theatre is an arts hub that offers a range of live performances, including music, theater, and literary events. In addition, the theater also hosts art exhibitions and provides classes and clubs for those interested in the arts. The venue boasts good facilities and has a bar on site, making it an excellent choice for hosting cozy events. Visitors have praised the lovely atmosphere of the theatre as well as its friendly staff. It is overall a wonderful place to attend cultural events in the local community.
This small community theatre has comfortable seating with lots of legroom. There's a car park right next door to the theatre which is free after 6:00 pm. I didn't make use of the bar but plenty of others did. We were there to see the Dire Straits tribute act dS:UK who put on their usual fantastically professional & entertaining show.

Fabulous venue and something for everyone. I love Deal because it is so mixed and The Astor absolutely reflects that. And it’s entirely run by volunteers! Fantastic place that just goes from strength to strength. Cannot praise it - or the team that run it - enough. A true arts gem at the beating heart of this beautiful town.

Frog And Scot Bar - Kitchen is a renowned bistro in Deal that transformed an old florist-cafe into a culinary gem. The establishment, owned by Benoit Dezecot and Sarah Ross, offers a Parisian wine bar vibe with small plates, cocktails, and an impressive selection of organic and natural wines. The menu features creative dishes made with ingredients from artisan suppliers like the Black Pig butchers.
as we were passing by ,walked in to see whether we could have quick bite without reservation. We were lucky . Forced rhubarb sorbet was the pinnacle of delicious lunch . Can’t wait to go back and order it again 😊

Excellent food really. A charming little French tapas-style bistro with real flair. We ordered a selection of small plates (which I always love – grazing over great food is my ideal evening), and everything we tried was beautifully cooked, well-balanced, and full of flavour. Also a bonus it’s dog friendly. Big win there. Ours got plenty of attention, and the vibe was relaxed and welcoming. Now, I would have given five stars. I really would. But here’s the thing it was on the pricier side. Not outrageous, and to be fair, it was worth it. The quality’s there. But if you’re charging premium prices, I’d expect to be able to pay with an American Express card. I know, I know the usual excuse about fees. But come on. You can build that into the pricing model, like plenty of others do. It’s just a bit disappointing. As Tina Turner says in one of her songs “American Express will do nicely, Thank You”

We didn’t have a reservation but were given a wonderful seat outside in the sunshine for lunch today. As a vegan family, we were blown away by the delicious food on their vegan menu. Small plates of heaven. Highly recommend.

I wanted to share my personal experience of Frog and Scot. Agree with the other one star reviews, very unfriendly male waiter, left me perplexed why a person would work in the service industry and behaviour in that way. Overpriced cheese board with two types of cheese (paid £16.00), the hard cheese was tasteless and the wine tasted like it had been water down. SAVE YOUR MONEY OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Really enjoyed this place. I was a bit worried that it would just be a hype but i was so impressed! Each dish was full of flavour and really well done. I highly recommend the beetroot, squash, scallop and chocolate moouse. Ambience and service was also just so good!

Just this restaurant alone is worth a visit to Deal. Outstanding, mind-blowing small plates food concept. It is very well priced with delicious food. It's probably the best food I've eaten outside of London. The service was also really good, kind, attentive, and responsive. This place is great for a quick bite and a glass of wine or a full sit-down meal with a variety of dishes, each bringing you on its own flavour journey. We ordered 6 dishes for 2 people plus dessert and non alcoholic Espresso martini, and we paid 74£, so it's very reasonable. If you are really hungry or want to taste it all, order the same amount. Otherwise, scale down to 4-5 dishes. The portions are decent. My absolute favourites were the blue cheese puffs, the chickpea puffs, and hasbrown with fish. However, it was really difficult to choose favourites as everything is just so tasty. This restaurant has just recently changed their food concept from 3 course to small sharing plates. Therefore, most of the pictures here are out of date. Check my photos to see the latest offering and looks of the food. This restaurant has both outside and inside sitting. If the weather is great, it is worth to sit outside.

Sandown Castle Community Garden, located at the site of Sandown Castle in Deal, is not your typical standing castle but rather a collection of ruins submerged in the sea. However, it still offers a picturesque community garden and breathtaking views of Sandwich Bay and the sea. It is also home to a popular coffee truck that serves delicious flat whites. This charming garden serves as an excellent starting point for exploring Deal's many fortresses.
Attractive little garden on the site once occupied by Sandown Castle. In late spring the colourful array of flowers really stands out and helps attract bees. There are plenty of benches around to sit and enjoy a coffee from the van that often parks nearby. Good to see the local community putting in the effort to create this lovely little garden.

The castle ruins have been thoughtfully and lovingly transformed by the patrons of the community garden which is thriving there. Flowers of all types, grow in and upon the ruins, bringing vibrant colours and aromas that lend to an overall sense of calmness to this setting. I loved it!

We walked along the seafront to the Community Gardens. It was relaxing and the weather was nice. I wasn't sure what I expected to find although I knew the area had been made into a garden. I thought there would be some ruins. However it was so beautiful and there were so many colourful flowers. The view of the coast added to the atmosphere. One has to be careful of uneven paths. There is a food truck nearby which is available for drinks, etc which we didn't have time to use. It was nice to enjoy some quiet time, nature and the surroundings.

Oasis of tranquility with beautiful gardens and, frequently, stunning views of sunsets, stormy weather, or both at the same time. Also a good access point for walks along the beach or around the nature reserve. Depending on the time of day/week, @BangingBeans serves coffees, teas, etc. Even when caravans clog the parking closest to the garden, there's usually room for cars to park just up Sandown Road.

Visitors can also enjoy food and drinks from various stalls while exploring the market. The market is particularly popular for its flower stalls and fresh produce. Get there early for a good browse and if you’re keen on the awesome Swedish pastries, they go fast! Great fruit and veg stare and flower stall too. A couple of good options for hot drinks and snacks if you’re peckish. Also perfect for browsing the antiques and vintage clothing stalls. Always plenty of parking close to the market. Doner kebab restaurant
Deal Grill is a popular spot that has garnered attention for its delicious doner kebabs, making it a go-to destination for late-night cravings. Many visitors rave about the XL mixed doner and small chicken doners, especially after a night out. However, experiences can vary; some patrons have noted inconsistencies in quality and portion sizes, particularly when their favorite staff members are absent. While the flavors can be delightful, there’s been feedback regarding the need for more salad to balance out the meal.
Fantastic kebabs, very well put together with fresh salad and crunchy chips. Very friendly staff

Update 2..... upgraded to 4☆! back again 1am new years eve and it was delicious, 2 x small doner and a XL doner mix (£31) was a perfect way to finish the night and the normal guy was back!! Need more salad boss! Updated....... not been down for a year and unfortunately I've had to downgrade to 3 ☆. Normal guy not here due to family emergency and found kebabs greasy with hardly any salad after requesting a XL kebab with lots of salad. XL mixed doner and small chicken doner over £22! Good little place after a night out on the beer. Clean with good shish's and a good well cooked doner. you can ask for it to be finished on the hot plate to really crisp it up. Staff friendly and pleasant. Can get busy on a Saturday night. Open till late at weekends.

Serves food until 2am ensuring any local youths and mouthy drunks gather down this end of the high street, hollering away eating chips while local residents try to sleep. Suggest closing at midnight, for your neighbours’ sake.

Had two kebab probably the worst I've had in Deal by far. The salad was fresh mainly because they just opened. I had the shish I watched the skewers go on the grill popped out when I returned the meat was in the box, when I got home the meat in the box was only part of what went on grill.

Popped in last night as a family to grab something to eat as a treat. We all told the guy behind the counter what we wanted however he was more interest in playing with his phone, huffing n puffing whilst taking our order. We popped up to the seafront to sit in the car to eat only to discover my partners meal missing, except for the salad he ordered as he likes it boxed separately, we went back in the shop explained there was a meal missing for the member of staff to tell us oh I didn't write yours down, no apology just shrugged his shoulders. Seemed like we were a total inconvenience to this member of staff, so much so we won't bother him or this establishment again!!
Sara S — Google review
Worst Kebab shop I have experienced. Me and my partner ordered this on our camping trip. Waited over 1 hour and a half for the food to arrive ( which never). Called the restaurant several times for them to lie and say that the delivery driver had given the food to someone and they had given him the code. Then had to argue that this wasn’t true and that we hadn’t received the food. In the end they sent out more food , to which wasn’t even hot and they had sent dry doner meat and chips without any sauce and got the order wrong. Asked them for a refund due to the inconvenience and tried to say that they can only offer discount when we visit again. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE , I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS !!!! The only positive was the poor women working there trying to help me !

Made an order last night at 9:20 It arrived cold at 2250 the shop is a mile from my house. In a carrier bag. The chips were undercooked and soggy. The Bacon in the Burger nearly raw .The Pizza under cooked and also cold . The shop wouldn't answer the phone .Reused a refund from the ordering app . Do not use the takeaway its got to be the worst I'm Deal. Not value for money either .Avoid at all costs .

Absolutely the worst kebab house in the country, £20.40 for 1 small mixed meat and chips and a portion on meat. Although this wasn’t what was ordered. Watered down garlic sauce and somehow the food is still dry. With a combination like that the food was destined for one place and one place only. The Bin! 100% would not recommend to a friend…

I want to share my extremely unpleasant experience working at Sicilian in Deal and warn potential employees and clients. I worked there for six days, and it was the worst job experience of my life. From my first day, the owner, Pino, barely greeted me. At one point, he loudly accused me of taking a customer’s latte—when he had placed it with the dirty dishes himself. Communication about my responsibilities was almost nonexistent, and instead of giving constructive feedback, I was told to change my clothes because my dress could supposedly knock over a cup. When people in wheelchairs visited Sicilian, I tried to rearrange the chairs to make it more comfortable for them. While I was doing that, Pino walked past me irritably, slightly pushing me aside as he made his way to the front door to smoke, without even trying to help us. I was paid in cash at £10 per hour, even though we agreed on at least minimum wage (£11.44). When I was leaving, Pino said that he had EVEN PAID me for quiet days, as if he wasn’t supposed to. Just so you know, I pay taxes, and it’s the owner’s responsibility to handle cash wages properly too. The working conditions were chaotic and unsanitary. The coffee machine was leaking, and I had to keep mopping the floor while making drinks—without access to a working sink to wash my hands. The same milk in jug was reused multiple times throughout the day, which is completely unhygienic. On my last day, during a rush, Bino stood in my workspace, preventing me from making coffee. Every time I tried to speak, he rudely cut me off with “Wait,” leaving me standing there while orders piled up. The workspace was so cramped that we had to squeeze past each other, making everything inefficient and uncomfortable. I came to the UK from Ukraine after the war and was deeply moved by the kindness of the British people. I tried my best to work efficiently and treat customers with respect, but the treatment from the owner was shocking. If I had known what working there would be like, I never would have accepted the job.

The Lamp Room, located inside Bettshanger Park, offers a fantastic place to enjoy a refreshment or a meal. The service provided by the staff is exceptional, with every team member displaying pleasant and attentive manners. The menu provides faultless food options, with a great variety of choices to suit all preferences. Additionally, they will soon be introducing Sunday roasts for patrons to try. For families with children, there is an excellent outdoor play area available.
So so impressed with this place. The menu is delicious. The coffee is strong but smooth. The music is relaxing and at a perfect volume to still chat. It's clean and the decor is modern, love the shade of blue on the walls. But the highlight is the staff. So efficient. Seated quickly, served quickly, table cleared quickly, but made to feel welcome the entire time. Food was delicious, we had the eggs benedict, sourdough toast with marmalade and coffees. We will definitely be back!!! Maya, Abby, Ollie & Mia are superstars 🌟

Booked a table of 8, we had to wait an hour for food and noticed other guests sending food back due to being cold or incorrect. When we finally received our food it was a mixture of temperatures, food missing and generally not very nice. We were given a discount, an apology and an opportunity for them to rectify the issue but would have preferred it right the first time. The restaurant wasn't busy so couldn't really understand why there were so many issues.

Brilliant restaurant right next to the kids playpark at Betteshanger. The menu is great and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast and lunch menus available and a good selection of drinks at the bar. Places to sit both inside and out when the weather is good. Really great place to have a drink or meal after exploring Betteshanger park.

We had iced coffees of various flavours but could only taste coffee. Extortionate prices too. Disappointing. Staff were unhelpful, surly and one downright rude, suggesting she had too much to do behind the counter to serve me. Staff attitude was awful and left me actually shaking with anger. I kept cool but I won’t ever ever ever go back there. Took over 20 minutes to get 3 coffees and they were not busy at all.

We had a very relaxed brunch at The Lamp Room at Betteshanger Country Park. I had the Eggs Benedict with a twist - spicy sweetcorn fritters, smashed avocado and chipotle; whilst my husband had sausage and scrambled eggs on sourdough. We were both tempted by the sweet options as well but were too full to have anymore. Plus you’ve got to love a pretty flat white and some cool decor. All finished off with a stroll round one of the routes of the park in the sunshine - perfect!

Fantastic place to stop for a drink or a meal. Service was excellent, every member of staff had a pleasant and attentive manner. Food was faultless, there is an excellent variation in choice so you will definitely find something you fancy. Also doing Sunday roasts soon so will be heading back to give them a try. Excellent play area outside for the kids and a really nice outdoor seating area that you can dine at as well.

Fish and chips takeaway
Fast food restaurant
The Fryer Tuck, a fish and chips takeaway in Deal, offers the best quality seafood anywhere. Their fish is always freshly fried, ensuring that none of it tastes like it was cooked earlier. The batter on the fish is just right and adds to its great taste. As for the chips, they are simply amazing and far better than the overly fancy triple-fried truffle options found in London.
Had fish and chips tonight. Amazing! 10/10. I am gluten free and can rarely find gf food - decent gf food is even harder! Lovely crispy fish and chips! Definately recommended gf or not, it's great food. Staff lovely and service very quick! Wide variety of food. Will be back for the gf onion rings next!

We're on holiday and hadn't visited the Friar Tuck before. Wow, I asked for a medium cod and got a large one, and what a whopper! One of the best fish and chips I've ever had, served by lovely friendly staff. Quality ingredients cooked with care. I would definitely recommend and will certainly visit again if we're in the area. Thank you.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Richborough Roman Fort and Amphitheatre. Not quite as popular as Deal Castle, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Richborough Roman Fort and Amphitheatre is an English Heritage site located in England. The fortress features stone walls and a museum with exhibits on Roman life. Visitors can bring their dogs on a lead to explore the extensive grounds, which were once the beginning of Roman rule. The site offers guided tours and is suitable for families with children aged 4-8, offering educational experiences led by knowledgeable staff and volunteers.
Had a fantastic time in brilliant weather at the fort. English Heritage, Staff were helpful and informative. The audio description was very useful.

Theres not a huge amount to see here and only made worthwhile for us being cadw members. However its still a nice and well kept site in peaceful surroundings in the countryside. The lady in the gift shop was nice and polite .
High M — Google review
Before entering I read a review which said there wasn’t much here - well it depends on expectations! I would recommend the guidebook to get your bearings although the usual panels are available. The site is quite big and is a really interesting one for those interested in Roman Britain, Richborough being an important port. It was easy to imagine what the site looked like through the centuries. Really enjoyed this one! Recommended!
Hannah — Google review
Part of the English Heritage ... well worth getting a subscription if you are in Kent there are so many EH sites to see Richborough has a great audio guide so you get an expert to explain how the buildings were constructed and used. There is also a small exhibition showing artifacts from the site. Amazing how far it is now from the sea considering it was build at the seafront (the coast had moved not the fort 😀)
Emma D — Google review
I didn’t realise this was an English Heritage site so was pleasantly surprised when I came here. My friend and I were greeted by a friendly member of staff whom offered me a discount to become a member. I am now! There is a museum here as well which was very interesting to look through. You then go out and can have a leisurely walk around the fort. A whole wealth of information on the boards as well. Fascinating to know this was the gateway to Britannica!! There is a car park here but it’s free. Added bonus is there are toilets here. Now these are compostable toilets, your waste helps the planet! Was weird not flushing though 😂 I would definitely come back here again. As a Roman history lover it is a must see. Thank you for an enjoyable experience!
Kathryn H — Google review
Really enjoyed our first visit. What a great little hidden gem. We found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Particularly Lindsay and Neil. Thank you so much.

Had a lovely visit here this weekend. Such an interesting site. Nice little museum and accompanying audio guide. Very friendly, kind staff. I was also lucky that there was a very knowledgeable guide ( Jonathan who is normally at Deal Castle.) to chat to,who was able to answer my questions and enlighten me on what life would have been like at this fascinating site. I was also able to take my dog along which is always a bonus. Well worth a visit.

If you are interested in Roman history then this is for you, Richborough is where the Romans first landed and built a fort and town, a lot of interesting history, easy to get to and a good couple of hours, well worth a look

Great park for the kids, usually clean and clear if the local ruffians haven't smashed glass all over the place but DDC are usually quick to clear it up. Amenities include bins, benches and bogs so it's easy to hang around for a while if you wish. The quiet garden further down is pretty nice too, well taken care of and abundant in birds and squirrels if that's your thing .
Gemma J — Google review
Our local park. Kept clean by DDC. The toilets are sporadically open. Too many older kids knocking about the park for my liking. Sweating and taking over the smaller kids rides, some graffiti in places. That being said, it's conveniently close and bins and chairs are clean and in good working order.
Natalie — Google review
In need of renovation but not too bad. Slides, swings and climbing activities available. Big grass area, good for dogs and ball games. A couple of run down but useable multi-purpose courts (football / basketball) and some trees. Not the best park ever but not the worst.
Mark C — Google review
Pleasant to find a green space so close to Deal town. Leisure Centre and indoor tennis look good. Noted the play area looked interesting for my grandchildren. Traveller caravans in occupation.

Run down lump of grassland. Not a park at all. Open to a busy road. Grim and boring. OK to walk a dog but did not feel safe, just felt easy to be mugged.

Restaurant
Middle Street Fish Bar is located on one of the most historic and picturesque streets in Deal, lined with colorful heritage houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. The area was once at the center of a legendary smuggling trade. The fish bar offers generous portions and visitors are encouraged to take their meals to the seafront for an enhanced dining experience. Despite its unassuming exterior, the establishment provides pleasant service and deliciously crispy breaded fish that exceeds expectations.
We ate our meal in their restaurant area, good service, tasty F+C, the room was a little away from the fryers so it wasn't too noisy. My only criticism is that the 'cider' on the menu is a can of Strongbow and I'd say £5 is a bit steep for that!
Jessica P — Google review
Rude!! It was too much trouble to tell us how many pieces of scampi were in a portion to be able to judge how much to order. We had explained we wanted to sit and eat but after we ordered we were told the restaurant was now full and we could only get take away. Very disappointed as we had been recommended this restaurant by a local we had met on our walk. Shocked!! Another customer even took the time to come out and tell us how rude the they had been to us and I’m grateful as I’m not someone who usually would post such a negative review but feel very upset by how myself and my family were treated

Superb fish and chips, the best I've had in absolutely ages eaten out of proper chip paper on the beach a few feet away in a summer's evening - perfect. Beach
Deal Castle Beach is a picturesque pebble beach located in Kent, offering visitors a range of activities and attractions. Split in two by the iconic Deal Pier, the beach provides stunning views and is popular for fishing. The area is also home to an unusual fortress, adding historical intrigue to the coastal experience. Additionally, Deal boasts other nearby beaches such as Kingsdown Beach and Sandwich Bay Beach, catering to various preferences with options for serene relaxation or sandy shores.
A lovely walk. Kept very tidy. Plenty of benches, most of which aren’t covered in flowers and statues. Couple of nice old style shelters. Plenty of people fish, lots of dog walkers too. You might even see a seal
Charlie L — Google review
A mixed review...... Visited Deal over the bank holiday weekend having not been for years. The shingle beach itself was lovely, clean and shelve steeply down to the waters edge. Warning signs for no swimming due to poor water quality were disappointing, although if you dot want to go in the water, then its not a problem. We spent a lovely afternoon on the beach, just be aware that the water isn't great of you fancy a dip :-)

Deal Seafront is a picturesque oceanfront in Kent, offering stunning views of colorful fishermens cottages from the county's last remaining leisure pier. Visitors can enjoy a cycle-friendly path along the pebble beach, passing wooden fishing boats and nets. The area boasts charming pubs like the Kings Head and seafood restaurants such as Frog and Scot. The promenade stretches for several kilometers, featuring various attractions and activities.
Not a huge place. However it was lovely. Nice shops and tourist spots such as amusements. Beach is pebbles. Water was pretty clean compared to most Kent beaches. Lovely historic castle on the beachfront too.

Loved this place.. so unique, wonderful Brutalist pier with great cakes ! Looking at the coastline from the end of the unusual pier, such pretty houses and all the same height, historical hight of the houses ( no high rises and development) .. like stepping back in time. Loved it….

Deal sea front has old Victorian seaside features. The local people always welcoming and friendly. Beautiful pebble beach with steep which may be not good for little kids. Good fish & chip shops on the sea front and plenty of pubs around town for have a pint.

Lovely walk up seafront..pretty cold wind though the day we went. But always love the sea...shame the pier wasn't great....good condition but nothing on it so just long walk out. ..ironically watching unforgotten on tv was filmed in exact spot we were walking and sitting on beach.

Much more of a local experience is possible at this seafront. throughout the year, compared to the much more popular ones of the area but with no less to do and see.
Omar A — Google review
Attractive seafront lined with well maintained historic buildings, an unusual Tudor castle, distinctive Time Ball Tower and a pier extending out over a large shingle beach. Plenty of places to eat and drink while enjoying the coastal views, including traditional pubs, cafés, fish and chip shops and an ice cream parlour. The flat seafront promenade is an accessible path that can be enjoyed by all, with plenty of paid parking nearby. The bandstand a short way south of the castle holds regular concerts. A characterful seafront with a higher class of attractions than the traditional British seaside town.

Kingsdown Beach is a secluded and peaceful spot located at the northern end of the White Cliffs of Dover, offering a quieter alternative to nearby beaches. It's suitable for families and kayakers, with grassy scrubland backing the pebble beach and chalk cliffs flanking one side. The area provides picturesque views, making it an ideal place for a long walk along the seafront. There are benches for picnics and a lovely pub serving fabulous food nearby.

Had a long and peaceful walk along the seafront. Very quiet and calm area. Not much around but a nice pub which was full pack when been there. Beautiful walk though with lovely views. Its a long pebble beach starting under the white cliff and going the long way. Lovely houses line up in front of the seafront and couple of have put out some charity fruits and stuff to get free.

Kingsdown Beach near the beautiful town of Deal was one of the nicest beaches in Eastern Kent. There's lots of beautiful views of the long pebble beach from further away. We walked all the way to Walmer beach for views of the long, amazing tourist attraction called Deal Pier. There's even perfect beach huts and a nice pub called 'Zetland Arms'. Kingsdown Beach even has views of the beautiful, long, White Cliffs of Dover. It even has nicer views of the town of Ramsgate. The long beach even has wooden paths that go down to the nice, blue sea.

If you want a very long peaceful walk along the seafront you need to do this. It's a beautiful walk with lovely views of the pebble beach and the lovely houses that line the seafront. Nestled away from the bustling streets, Dine India is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable culinary journey. Tucked behind a hotel entrance or accessible via a narrow alleyway, this family-run establishment is dedicated to providing an exceptional Indian dining experience. Guests rave about the fresh and flavorful dishes that stand out for their quality—no greasy offerings here! Signature items like succulent chicken tikka and spicy Lamb Naga are must-tries, alongside delightful onion bhajis and vegetable samosas.
The ambiance was cozy, perfect for a night out with friends and family. The staff was attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious, offering a wide range of flavorful dishes. A memorable dining experience indeed! Five stars!"

Visited 07/09/2024 with a friend. Super polite staff who couldn't have done enough for you! They were so lovely, especially our waitress who was sweet and nice. Ordered poppadums first and they were, unfortunately, stale. But we ate them anyway! The dips were great! I've never had the spicy red one before, but it was so flavourful and had a nice kick! Beers were cold and tasty, as always. Ordered our mains and they were tasty! Portions perfectly reasonable too. My friend had rice with his and it was a perfect portion for one. I had cheese naan with my meal and I found that the chedder was overpowering when I was dipping into my curry, but as a cheese enjoyer I did still enjoy it! And for dessert, there's a small selection. My friend ordered a coconut icecream and said it was really coconutty and yummy. I ordered the kid's penguin (mostly because I remember them from when I was a child) but the ice cream was vanilla flavoured and a good portion for if you've not got "much room" for dessert. Will 100% go back if I'm in town. And to that waitress in particular, thank you for your service. You were wonderful.

This was our first visit to Dine India and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food…piping hot and full of flavour! It was a nice touch to see the actual Chef checking on us to make sure we were having a nice meal. Shame the entrance feels a bit neglected, it needs cleaning and update to do justice to the food. Be aware some prices on the menu were different on the bill when it was presented.

Delicious Dine India!! This is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been too. Often stayed in the adjoining Hotel the Clarendon but never tried the restaurant till last night. Wow...Food tastes amazing, fresh, flavorful with a extensive range of dishes, none of which we found greasy like in other Indian restaurants. Highlights was the Beautiful and succulent chicken tikka and the spicy Lamb Naga, also we enjoyed the Onion barges and vegetable samosas. Service was prompt, polite, professional And the price extremely reasonable! Plenty of easy parking. Only criticism is they don't sell draft lager just bottles.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Bangkok Pavillion, a restaurant we visited during our trip to Deal. The ambiance of the place was truly unique and transported us to a completely different world. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the cuisine was exceptional. For starters, we enjoyed the Bangkok delight platter which consisted of various delicious dishes. Our main course included sweet & sour chicken as well as chicken with cashew accompanied by coconut jasmine rice.
My favourite restaurant in Deal. The food is always amazing and tasty, the staff are like family, so friendly and always have a smile for you. Love it here and always come to Bangkok Pavillion for special meals and evenings. We had mains, desserts and drinks/shots each persons bill was roughly £40-50!

Great Thai restaurant in the centre of deal, fast friendly service in a very friendly environment. Food is simply delicious with a wide varied menu, the chicken & beef dishes were tender and very tasty…. The restaurant is authentically decorated which just adds to a great fun experience. A must visit!

Was there on Wednesday evening. As always the service was fabulous and the food even better. The menu is packed full of a large selection of tasty options suitable for meat eaters, pescatarians, vegetarians and vegans. Who could ask for more. See you soon xx

If you are in Deal, you must visit Bangkok Pavilion. If not for the amazing food, then to meet the restaurant owner. A family owned business full of atmospheric delightful authentic decorative feel. The Thai owner was our host, and i found him warm welcoming and funny character. This establishment is His passion, and it shows with his engagement with his customers. I ordered the prawns and broccoli with coconut rice and a Bingha beer. The aroma as the food was served made me want to get stuck in. But i had to take a few photos first. A really nice restaurant, a friendly atmosphere, well worth a visit. Highly recommended !! BOOK IN ADVANCE to secure a table, especially over the weekend.

This is such an amazing, authentic looking place. Staff were very friendly and helpful! The scaffolding out the front was a little eye-sore, but it's just external refurbishment going on at the time! The decor inside was exceptional and its like you've been transported to Thailand! The food was fantastic, I had Duck in Garlic and Chilli and the taste was exceptional! Would totally recommend to anyone!

We dined in here and as always when we eat here, were welcomed with a smile. The food was excellent, the Thai wine was also fantastic. Reasonably priced, and a different offering to other restaurants in Deal.

Delicious fresh Thai food set amongst interesting decor. Staff were friendly and accommodating, our personal favourite was the tom ghai khar soup. All the food was wonderfully flavoured, the prawn toast and dumplings from the starters were very nice. I had the duck with garlic and chilli, served in a duck shaped dish, beautiful. It made for a lovely evening out for my birthday, we will certainly visit again when in the area.

The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant is a vibrant spot that perfectly captures the essence of seaside dining. With its bustling outdoor area and ample indoor seating, it offers a refreshing escape from the heat while providing stunning views of the sea. This Shepherd Neame pub boasts an impressive selection of beers on tap, making it a great place to unwind. The menu features delightful options like the Fisherman’s Board and unique starters such as mushroom toast, which are sure to tantalize your taste buds.
Nice seafront restaurant. Excellent food and wines. We had calamari and smoked duck to start and the traditional beef and ale pie. All were beautifully cooked. We chose an Italian wine Nero d Avola which we had before in Italy but from a different vinyard. This was much nicer.

Really disappointed and probably won't use again. So booked a table weeks in advance for New years day for 6pm. Knowing there wasn't a lot open that night in the area and we want a decent meal ending a brilliant couple of nights here and having dined here many times before over the years. But unfortunately the limited menu was literally sold out of any thing containing a meat product apart from the burgers. No chicken wings, steak or lamb?? Know surly whoever is ordering the kitchen supplies knows how many guess you have in the hotel and booking plus. Allowing for any walk-ins you can quite easily have your kitchen stocked with plenty of food for your bookings that evening, especially being part of the hotel. Not everyone wants fish & chips. Now Sophie the young waitress was fantastic, she was very professional and apologetic but I did stress that it wasn't her fault or problem. It completely lays at the feet of the kitchen. As for the limited food we received the burgers were OK but smoothed in sauce. crab on potato totts was awful. Just a smigging of crab served on Icelands frozen potato totts. On my photos you can see pervious reviews and meals eaten here.

We have eaten here previously and always had a good meal. The last time was over a year ago, so we decided to pay a visit as we were in the area. When we arrived, we were ignored even though 3 staff members were not doing anything. A very nice young waitress who had been serving other customers then showed us to a table. It was early evening and very quiet. Our starters came out quite quickly. The calamari was very greasy, but it was cooked OK. The prawn cocktail was average, but bread was quite stale. They didn't have the drinks we wanted, so we ordered a very overpriced mocktail. The mains arrived, pie was OK but the veg was so overcooked and rubbery. Haddock? and chips, well, I'm not sure it was actually Haddock. It had no taste, batter was greasy, and everything had been over salted. Nobody came to check if everything was OK? They forgot one of our drink so we had to go to the bar and get it. When we finished our meal we were waiting ages for someone to come over but got fed up waiting and went to the bar to request the bill. When paying, we were then asked if everything was OK, but by then, it was too late! I just said no,not really. If that's the way they treat customers and can't even see what's wrong, we won't be returning, unfortunately. The 3 stars are an average of previous visits because we know it was better in the past, but we won't be risking it again after our last visit 😕

Very popular restaurant and bar; outside was very busy due to the weather, but plenty of tables inside, with a nice cool breeze. A Shepherds Neame pub, with a good selection of their beers on tap. Had the Fisherman’s Board, a sharer, and Whitebait, and onion rings (which were very fresh and for once didn’t pull the whole onion out when biting into one). Service was very prompt, staff were friendly, and overall I couldn’t fault anything.

Wonderful English restaurant with a good solid menu despite COVID. Very good protocols without being too invasive but keeping us all safe. Go for the oven schnitzel or steak but got starters definitely get the mushroom toast, was totally unique and delicious. Brilliant staff and front of house exceptional

We went here a couple of times for a snack at lunchtime and also one evening. The menu is varied and the food was very tasty and enjoyable. A good system was in use to control the covid situation. Excellent choice of wines here and good views of the sea from the outside tables. We liked it here very much.

Booked for a group of 10 for our last night of our holiday but some people were slightly disappointed. We were served by a lovely young waitress who took our order. As for the food a bit more thought and care is needed. Little things like slighlty overcooked scallops, oversasoned chicken, toasting the pittas as well as forgetting sauces that were part of the dishes. Overall the food was nice but be careful if you're table is over 6 people, they automatically add a 10% service charge which we asked them to remove from the bill twice which the older waitress didnt look too happy about. And if you book in advance they ask for a £50 deposit which they also forgot to remove from the bill. Nice atmosphere and a good view of the beach, just could do with some tweaks!

We recently ate in here and loved it! We are vegan and the chef came out and asked our opinion of vegan options which was amazing! I could tell he really cared and wanted to offer more for those who can’t eat meat or dairy. The vegan spice bag was incredible! I would 100% order that again. The portion size was perfect and the food was incredible. I highly recommend! Perfect little spot in town. Thank you to the lovely staff and the chef who took time to speak to us. We really appreciate it.

I had a fantastic stay at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, the experience was smooth, comfortable, and welcoming. The room was spotless, well-maintained, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. But what really made the difference was the staff – especially the receptionists. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and always had a smile on their faces. Whether I needed directions, recommendations, or just a quick chat, they were very hostpitable.

Two of us went in today at about 2 o'clock. Ordered drinks and food. Waited 45 minutes for 2 breakfasts. Didn't turn up. Went and asked where our food was. Was told it's on its way. Waited for another 10 minutes and asked for a refund. Then the girl said it's coming in seconds. So we said we had to go. She informed us that she'd had lots of tickets come in. There were six other people in the pub. Unacceptable. Very poor service. Will definitely not go in there again.

Nestled near the waterfront, it’s not just a memorial but also a vibrant hub for community events and free concerts during the warmer months.

This art gallery, DONT WALK WALK Gallery, is highly praised and owned by a talented artist named Neil. His expertise and passion for art are evident in the impressive collection of modern pieces on display and for sale. Unlike other galleries in Deal, this one stands out by offering unique artwork without any depictions of boats or seagulls. Visitors have had the opportunity to appreciate props and artwork from Vic and Bob's Big Night Out TV Series, created by Jim Moir.
Great little gallery packed with some excellent and interesting pieces. Staff (Henry & Neil) are friendly, helpful and informative. Definitely worth a visit. Gallery does offer a delivery Service if needed. Highly recommended

Love this gallery. Owned by a fine artist Neil, who is brilliant and knowledgeable. Loves art, displays and sells some great modern pieces. No boats or seagulls on the art on the Deal based gallery, there's plenty of those in Deal, so obviously Neil has decided to do something different and it works. I came all the way from Arizona to see Neil and his gallery. Ned Kelly"s art is truly amazing, real endorphin stimulators, like what Rothko and Turner do to some of us. The gallery is legit if you're into thought-provoking, non-kitsch art. Just wish I wasn't on the other side of the globe so I could visit more often.

A little gem of an independent gallery in Deal showing both local emerging artists and some more established names. Worth a visit for sure. The owner Neil also has a screen-printing set up and creates his own works. Go see. ****

LOVE this gallery! I went along to Noel Fielding's Halloween Art Show opening night last weekend, and was blown away with the vibe of the place. The gallery is cool and cosy and has a real homely feel to it. The owners and organisers at the gallery are super friendly, so I didn't feel awkward walking into the smaller space like I have in the past at some other galleries. Another thing I like about Don't Walk Walk Gallery is that the owners are very active on social media. Leading up to Noel's exhibition, they were sure to let their followers know what was going on, same at the event, and they are continuing to share posts, stories, etc. about it now. For Artists: I feel like this would be a great gallery to exhibit in as they really make sure that the current exhibitions are well covered on social media, etc.

Visitors can explore its significance in navigation and delve into the town's rich shipping heritage. The tower drops its timeball daily at 1pm, offering a unique experience. Additionally, the small museum showcases a range of maritime exhibits, making it an intriguing stop along Deal's seafront.
A friend and I went to this on Sunday, having wanted to do this for 2 years. It was so fun to sit with a group of others who were as fascinated as us to see the ball rise and then descend on the hour. The staff are lovely! Such a lovely place to visit. It is a really interesting museum, so much to see and plenty to learn, even if you don't have a huge interest in old movies and the history of how it all started, I'm sure you will find it fascinating. It's £6 and that gives you access to the Museum for the whole year. Excellent staff, coffee shop and outside seating area..

A very interesting museum, especially concerning silent film (which they play a number of clips of in the cafe/ reception room area), a good selection of new and used films on DVD and Blu-Ray for sale and a collection of books comparable to the Criterion Closet (if a little expensive for my taste). As interesting as I find the First World War, I feel it was a touch over done for a museum primarily based on moving image and could have done with perhaps the transition of film from its origins to modern filmmaking (as far as the 70s or the introduction of digital filmmaking).
Charlie C — Google review
Our family thoroughly enjoyed Kent Museum of the Moving Image. The displays, images and moving images were amazing quality. The world war 1 exhibits was packed full of information. I could visit again and again and I could continue to learn more information each time. We also enjoyed a coffee and cake while the thunderstorm and heavy rain was over Deal. The owner very kindly took me and my family back to our holiday cottage. We are very grateful for her kindness and generosity. She went above and beyond.

Lovely place. We went for a Sunday roast and really enjoyed the food, including the complimentary bit of mushrooms soup- delicious. We were given a recommendation to try the pork and it was fabulous. Lamb was also nice but is pulled lamb rather than the piece of meat. Vegetables were varied and tasty but roast potatoes were dry. Desserts were great, in particular the cheesecake with butterscotch sauce. Friendly service.

Outstanding Father’s Day Experience We booked a table for Father’s Day and had an exceptional time from start to finish. Despite both being vegan and the day having a set menu (that had no vegan option for starter), the staff went out of their way to suggest delicious alternatives that catered to our requirements for the starter and made sure we were well taken care of. The service was warm and attentive throughout. While the food was on the pricier side, it was absolutely worth it—beautifully presented and full of flavour. The relaxed atmosphere offered an enhanced version of the usual feel of Deal, making the whole experience special. Highly recommend.

Update from a regular diner but not a local that happily travels for this delicious food. Personally I'd say this is the best restaurant in deal! Forgot the 2 along the sea front that get so much praise! This is definitely one of my preferred top restaurants to dine in. I've been here twice for Christmas day meals which was excellent and regularly visit from London. I love the option of a live vocalist entertainer on a Sunday evenings. Staff polite, attentive and professional. Both the owner and management (Del) are a delightful presents in the restaurant.

Food was excellent we had to wait as it was so busy we were offered a free drink nice touch lovely surroundings staff attentive recommended.

Ate there last night. Just perfect. Food spot on and high quality and great presentation. Service excellent and friendly. Atmosphere lovely with a guy playing guitar and singing. Food and Drinks great value. I didn't go for the cheapest wine, because for a change all the wines were affordable. The card machines need to be able to add a tip, or you should add 10% optional tip to the bill, because i think your staff will be missing out on tips.

Seafood restaurant
Nestled in the charming coastal town of Deal, Dunkerley's Seafood Restaurant Hotel offers a delightful blend of comfort and culinary excellence. This family-run establishment features elegant bedrooms, some boasting spa baths and breathtaking sea views. The hotel is renowned for its fresh seafood dishes, showcasing the best local catches from Kent's stunning coastlines. Guests can indulge in specialties like whole grilled Sandwich Bay plaice or char-grilled Deal herring, all complemented by an impressive selection of fine wines.
My wife and l just stopped on the seafront for a beer and a beer. Ended up with a bowl if chips as well. Table service out side was quick and efficient, the young waitress very keen to please. A bit windy today and unfortunately overlooks a busy road between the hotel and beach (not their fault of course) but reasonably priced and toilets were immaculate as well. Would recommend

We have been to this Restaurant several times, and have always had a very good Lunch. As we had a friend visit from Norfolk, and as a treat I booked a table for 3 for Lunch (yesterday). I have to say I was most disappointed. The meals arrived and looked a little lost on the plates. I have to say on previous visits the plates have been full. I understand that food prices have risen, but so have the prices at Dunkerley's. My Wife had Salmon and vegetables, which were sparse on the plate. Our friend had Cod & chips, with the Cod at least a third smaller than previous visits, served with no more than 8 or 9 chips and some mushy peas. I had Plaice and new potato's with sugar snaps. Well the fish was ok, but I had 6 Jersey Royal size potato's cut in half, and a desert spoon of frozen peas with 4 sugar snaps poked in ?. For the price we all left feeling hungry, Most disappointed Dunkerley's. Can't fault service. but with a non alcohol drink £ 70. Sorry but will not be returning.

Enjoyed my pint of prawns , the only criticism would be , I would of enjoyed them more if they were cold ,they were room temperature. However, I've woken up this morning and I'm not ill. Good price and large portion . I enjoyed my mussels too. The wife thought them too small, and unfortunately for her a lot of shells were empty. Mine were great . The ladies serving were all very nice and friendly and couldn't fault the service It's a thumbs up from me, but not the misses

Fantastic food, fresh and tasty. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, nice clean toilets. We love to head for this restaurant for a delicious meal every time. Prices very reasonable too.

The inside is quite dated but more importantly it is clean. The hotel faces the sea and is next to two very nice pubs. The staff are young locals and very professional and helpful. It's worth having dinner here. The food is local fresh produce and well presented. The breakfast is great! Options of full English or kippers with eggs, which I had and they were delicious and fresh. I asked if I could add tomato and mushrooms and it wasn't a problem. Would recommend this hotel for a short stay.

lovely meal at Dunkerleys. Reasonably priced. Good quality. Would recommend the seafood platter! Perfect way to end our mini break. Sat outside and listened to the live music, which wasn't too loud

Good welcome, but a bit slow to get going with our drinks order... Staff multi-tasking to look after check-in and the bar, soon got things sorted when a second server came along and checked how we were - good teamwork. Food wise, mains excellent, puddings ok.

Fish & chips restaurant
The staff at The Happy Fryer were extremely helpful, delivering to a holiday park and accepting cash on delivery. Additionally, they went out of their way to pick up milk for customers who were unfamiliar with the area. The food itself was delicious, perfectly cooked and hot upon arrival. It truly captured the essence of enjoying fish and chips by the sea. This restaurant in Deal is highly recommended for its outstanding cuisine and exceptional service.
Surprisingly good chippy come café with a wide selection of food and drink choices. Excellent friendly service and reasonable prices. Basic fayre but the portion sizes are good, it's clean and dog friendly also.
Michael L — Google review
The portions are very large, atmosphere is nice (relaxing restaurant music), tables clean and it's exceptional value per person. We had cod, rock and quarter pounder with cheese, coke and tea and curry sauce. Would absolutely visit again!

Wow! Staying at a nearby campsite we ordered food in. Portion size was amazing, with good chunky cod and decently cooked chips - all delivered in very reasonable time! Wish we lived more locally as definitely recommend Happy Fryer at Deal - thank you!!

First time visit and very impressed with food, srrvice and atmosphere. I ordered traditional fish (cod) and chips with mushy peas. To be honest, the experience was top-notch. The meal was delicious, large portion... so much that they and I forgot about the mushy peas I had ordered. The service was epic, the place well presentable. Above all, excellent customer service. The cost was about £13, not sure whether that included the mushy peas!!
Q J — Google review
I ordered x2 cod and large chips from the Happy Fryer, whilst waiting for delivery I received a call from them apologising for the delay? To be honest I hadn't been waiting very long, the lady said she'd added two cans of drink and an extra cod!! My goodness, it was yummy and what amazing service! My favourite from now on. Thank you guys

Good service and good food. This is a great value for money. The batter is excellent and the fish fresh. The fries deserved a bit more cooking but the portion was so big it was all forgiven.

The Deal Maritime and Local History Museum is a small yet fascinating museum that showcases the rich maritime heritage of Deal and Walmer. Housed in an old industrial building, it features full-size and model boats, along with exhibits detailing the local lifeboat service. One of its highlights is the Deal and Dunkirk exhibition, which tells the compelling story of the town's involvement in the Dunkirk evacuation. From April to October, visitors can explore artifacts related to Deal's history as a fishing and smuggling town.
Interesting little museum charting the history of Deal, focusing particularly on its maritime and military past and the people involved. There are plenty of historic exhibits to help tell the stories, and lots of information to read. Opening times are on the website. Entry is free, donations are welcomed and there's a small gift shop.

Just had a great experience at Linden Hall Studios (LHS) - a one-day beginner's bookbinding course. Wonderfully taught by Aimee from Woodle Books in the lovely light and airy setting of LHS. What is there to say about LHS? The staff are professional, the space is beautifully presented and the work they showcase is thought provoking, fresh and ambitious. Galleries of this quality are rare to come by outside of London - the good people of Deal are very lucky to have this at the heart of their artistic community. Please ask for Myles Corley, Gallery Director, whose expert knowledge and dedication serves to amplify this impressive setup. Romantic setting, quiet atmosphere, with lovely food and they didn’t mind changing up the dish for there amazing chips, super fresh, great staff and nice wine. The creme brûlée I wished was warmer on top and the sour dough bread is a must to try.

We spent a long weekend in Deal for my mum’s birthday and ate at 81 Beach St both nights. We’d originally booked another restaurant for our second night, but we had such a lovely meal here on the Friday that we had to return again on the Saturday. The food and service were excellent on both occasions. My food highlights were the scallops starter and chicken supreme, which I had on night one, but the mussels and sorbets were also very good. The only slight disappointment was the burger, which I found a little dry, but I’ve definitely had worse burgers. For the overall quality of the food, we felt the restaurant offered very good value for money. Highly recommended.

A lovely little restaurant on the seafront in Deal. All the dishes we had were very tasty and of high quality. The service was ok, the staff could have been a little more engaging with their customers. Overall if you want a nice meal in a nice setting with great views I would recommend you give this a try. A place I would happily return to.

After reading reviews of this place, I really wanted to try it and I was not disappointed! We had a sharing breadboard, focaccia and sourdough with homemade hummus which was really tasty. I had juicy chicken supreme with pearl barley mushroom risotto, absolutely the tastiest I've ever had, and my wife had Miso aubergine steak with Pak choi and caramelised carrot and ginger puree, very, very tasty (she doesn't normally go for Pak choi but she loved it) Of course, we just HAD to try the triple cooked chips, and as another reviewer mentioned, they were the best chips I've had in years, reminded me of the proper chunky chips I had as a kid from the Chinese shop in the 70's! A glass of prosecco and a beer from a Deal brewery called sprattwaffler, the bill came to a very reasonable £66. Would definitely recommend 😎

Very disappointed with the service. Booked a table for 6 only to be shown to a table set for 5. An additional chair was placed at the end of the table but no table setting provided. Drinks took 20 minutes. Food (starters) arrived 40 minutes after ordering and still no cutlery for me. Asked for water but none arrived. Mains arrived very late. Starter cutlery (small knife & fork) provided. At no time we we asked how our food was, whether everything was OK, or if we wanted more drinks. Not a great experience- we won't be back.

Victuals & Co is a casual-contemporary restaurant located in a narrow, pedestrianized passage between Deal High Street and the beach. The restaurant has received recognition from the Michelin Guide for its modern British cuisine made with local produce. On Sundays, visitors can enjoy the popular 'Raid the Larder' evening, featuring dishes created on the spot with a focus on minimizing waste. The restaurant prides itself on offering fresh, locally-sourced dishes with a small yet well-executed menu.
We have passed by a few times but did not realise it is dog friendly. Glad I stopped by and asked. The starters were roasted goats cheese with beetroot and pes shoots and pulled brisket tacos, we shared and both were very good indeed. Main courses were herb crusted roast cod for me. It was served on new potato mash and was a really nice dish. My husband had the buttermilk chicken and that looked perfect too, he said it was great. No room for dessert, maybe next time. The place is lovely, lots of art everywhere and it is for sale. The staff were lovely, friendly and did a good job of making sure we had a great evening.

Really lovely restaurant, with attentive staff, taking care of you and updating you when it's busy. We had the chicken satay each for starters, which were nice. Highlight for me was the vegetarian curry. Absolutely delicious. I'm not vegetarian but reading this on the menu earlier in the day, had my mind made up. Glad I stuck with my choice, came with some mini poppadoms and a crispy bread on the side. The curry and rice were perfect. My partner opted for the steak and enjoyed it. Great spot, and amazing value. £90 with service with two courses and a drink each.

Lunch there today was absolutely excellent. I mentioned that it was my wife's 70th birthday and she was greeted with the most enormous happy birthday balloon, a wonderful gesture from the proprietor, Verena I believe. Had very tasty meal here, food was very good! Did not realise that they had second floor in the restaurant as well! Family Sunday lunch for a birthday! I still consider it the best restaurant in Deal. My children loved the kid’s menu and we were treated beautifully. Lovely and relaxed atmosphere with the best food! Couldn’t ask for more, thank you!

Wait time horrendous. Food abysmal. I think the chef needs sacking cos steak and kidney pudding obviously too long in the microwave! Pasta my 9 year old granddaughter could have done better. Diners walking out and complaining. Waiting staff good but stressed and inexperienced. Don’t think it’ll be there much longer!

Bed & breakfast
English restaurant
Restaurant
The Three Compasses is a cozy and informal bed & breakfast with a down-to-earth restaurant/bar. The B&B offers smart set menus on weekends, featuring dishes like oak-smoked herring and Beef Bourguignon. The nearby Kings Head pub serves decent burgers and Sunday roasts, while the Deal Pier Kitchen offers lobster and crayfish rolls as well as bottomless brunches.
Delicious food and the owners are so lovely and sweet. The steak is very good. And the herring starter also. Very good prices compared to other Deal restaurants. Highly recommend.

Stayed one night June 2023 whilst cycling Cantii way. Nick is a wonderful host & chef. Room good with glorious sea view and nice design touches. Dinner superb value and tasty. Highly recommend

Came here with family on Christmas Eve and had the three course set menu. The food is really exceptional and everything is prepared onsite. Front of house are incredibly attentive and you have enough time between courses to relax. A really good selection of wines are available.

Loved it. Beautiful restaurant with great menu. The 3 courses for £19 is an absolute find. The choices are great. Herring with pickles and panko calamari were delicious. The turkey roast dinner and teriyaki steak superb. Cherry almond tart and espresso brulee excellent. Prosecco very nice. A great chef the message on the menu say they aim to offer reasonable prices and they sure do. Lisa was amazing the service was above and beyond. Nice loos. We parked in Union Road car park ( the market was closed). Thank you!

Me and my partner had our first date night out in basically a year as we have a month year old baby. We chose to come back here again as their food is always amazing. Last night we had a lovely meal once again and the lady who served us was very friendly and gave us a glass of bubbly each to say congratulations. We thought that was very kind of her! We always recommend this restaurant and we definitely be back again for another date night!

What a fantastic room, drifting off to sleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the pebbles. Nick and his team were very kind and looked after us well. Our meal was first class. Lovely relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. Highly recommended. Thank you for everything
