The Archeological Museum of Populonia offers breathtaking panoramic views and is a marvelous destination to explore. Situated on an elevated terrain, visitors can enjoy the stunning Italian coastline and immerse themselves in its heavenly ambiance. Entry for the entire family costs only 14 euros, making it an affordable attraction.
This is one of those places you go to because there is not so much other cultural things in the area to see. But this is a good surprise when you arrive. Beautiful small streets with cosy restaurants. A small fee and you can go all the way up in the tower. But have in mind, you need to be fit and not too young and not too old for this. Ones you are up this is a breathtaking view of the area.

The perfect size museum. Enough to be interesting, not too much as to be overwhelming.
You will get up close to ancient things you would never get near anywhere else.
Amazing views and beautiful place to visit. Just to bask on the beautiful Italian cost. Pure heaven. Entry in to Tower and museum 14 euro for all family very good price. Just to see views. Only warning to people this is on top large hill/small mountain. So drive up and also becareful in midday sun as get very hot so take hat and plenty water. There are great shops tho in the grounds and cafe/restaurants to take cover in so defo worth a stop at.
Great place to visit when interested in history. Also on a not so sunny day, perfect to go there. And dont forget to bring some cash money. When paying for your parkingticket its not possible to pay with a creditcard or a bankcard.
Tickets for visiting the fortress are only €3,- for adults and kids not older then 5 are for free. Need to do a little bit of climbing stairs in the fortress. But its worth the amazing view.
A little expensive but interesting stuff to see. Etruscan habitat with Roman overbuildings. Beautiful views on the ocean. A magical place.
Impressing artefacts from ancient time in tuscany. However, we felt it unlucky to schedule the main tour to 3pm with little to no shadow whilst the host wasn’t really motivated. As an example we did not really notice the tour was over, but saw the guide just going off to the office.
Quite a good experience and amazing scenery!
A bit commercialized. Locations and view is great. The old church is well restored with some original works inside as well.

Scenic spot
Buca delle fate is a characteristic cove along the Etruscan Coast in Tuscany, offering panoramic vistas over the sea and rocky coast. The pebble beach lies between a stretch of rocky coastline with crystal clear waters due to the rocky seabed. Accessible by a path, it's recommended to bring water shoes for swimming due to sharp rocks.
Really nice spot for swimming and snorkeling.
The way from parking to the ocean is a little bit challenging, sturdy shoes are recommend.

Beautiful place! The only thing that I really need to say, is that you can bring your kids, but you must be really careful, watch out for danger, the path isn't safe. You can stop by the rocks when you arrive though, if you don't go too far away it's safe.
This place is just amazing. The walking track to go there is adventurous and with interesting geological sites. And then the view!! Bring a bathing suit, sunscreen and diving mask!
Nice place to come. Is you want to swim you'll have to spend about 20 minutes to get down to the coast from the nearest parking place. It will be not the easiest road but I think it worths such effort.
I can't say that it can be an everyday place to swim between rocks but you should come here once.
The mentioned parking is free.
Just amazing! We were lucky to find a parking space, and to get there you have to walk quite a few meters. Be brave and you will be rewarded with a little piece of heaven.
The hiking path is quite adventurous, with many fallen logs and no fencing between you and the cliff but it's worth the view! If you have vertigo or are not sure footed, maybe not a suitable hike

Well is nothing to say the nature speaks it self I been there once and I was in love straight away. Take your mask, a good sunscreen and remember you are on a rocky place where is beautiful to walk around but not to lay down. Unless you have a great inflatable mattress. I went there already 2 times and I really recommend this place. Parking is not to difficult and the way to reach the place is not to much complicated. So pack your stuff and go and enjoy the nature. There is no bar, no restaurant nothing. Bring loads of water food, share the load and jump in one of the most fantastic place I have seen.

Spiaggia di Baratti is a beautiful beach located in a bay, making it ideal for swimming and suitable for children. The beach offers fine sand, clear sea, and the option to rent sun loungers and umbrellas. Additionally, there are various water activities available such as pedal boats. While parking may be slightly expensive, the large umbrella pine trees provide ample shade.

This is a gem of a spot for an out of season little trip. Pristine surroundings: mountains, woods and beach in the heart of Toscana. Excellent restaurants in the western most part of the bay. Wing-Kite-surfers paradise when windy.

Nice sand, a bit more coarse than usual. Great brown color. Long stretch of free beach, and nice big waves during our visit. The Land behind is also beautiful, with big pine trees.

Osteria La Torre di Populonia is a charming, intimate restaurant with an authentic and cozy atmosphere. The menu is exclusively in Italian, but the friendly waitstaff are more than willing to assist you in making a choice if needed. Their extensive wine selection is impressive, and the desserts are not listed on the menu but can be easily obtained by simply asking. Although it may be slightly expensive, the dining experience at Osteria La Torre di Populonia is well worth it.
Very nice restaurant. Small and authentic. The menu is only in italian avaiable but the waiter/waitress will happily help you out our you can just ask for a recommendation. The wine card is also huge. Desserts are not listed in the menu, you just have to ask which are avaiable in the moment. It's a little pricey but definitely worth it!

We recently had a great lunch here. Since it was so hot out, neither of us was very hungry. But we each had a delicious dish. I had a panzanella & vegetable dish with grilled and chilled octopus. Super refreshing. My wife had pasta with clams. Very good service and good food. This is a good place the eat. I recommend booking a table.
We were staying in an apartment at the port of Baratti just below Populonia and stopped by without a reservation. The owner said we could only get a table if we liked fish. We love seafood so we were in. The wait staff were great. Very friendly and happy to make excellent recommendations. We ordered the tuna tartare, vongle and Branzino. All were excellent. In fact, I thought it was the best meal we have had in Italy since we arrived four weeks ago. We liked it so much we went back for lunch a couple days later. 5 stars!
Exceptional food. Simple, light, letting the quality of the fresh seafood shine! I had the octopus on Cecina, fried anchovies, paccheri, orata. Everything was so good I came back the next day so I could try more things. Also they open early both for dinner and lunch which is a bonus. Per gli italiani: non vi sbagliate a venire qui.
We celebrated my girlfriends birthday, after a glowing recommendation from our BnB host. The food was tasty and original for a fair price. You can really tell that this family cares about their customers and the food. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to try amazing seafood dishes.

The seafood at I Tretruschi Srl was enjoyable, although the menu selection was somewhat limited. One positive aspect is that it offers a respite from the bustling beach crowd, but unfortunately, it lacks a coastal view. The cuisine is excellent and reasonably priced, with a stunning location near an archaeological park. The service is commendable and welcoming; overall, it's definitely worth visiting. This place receives abundant praise for its delectable seafood and amiable atmosphere.

There’s a small door connecting the terrace and garden.
Location: It’s one of these places where you go for the ambiance (in my case lunch in the garden)

- food (the magic of avocado salad was lacking all magic, it’s a platter of veggies; the panini is not toasted but soft bread, served on a paper plate)
- prices (tourist spot, cocktail 15€, lunch with salad and panini 25€, drinks 5€)
- comfort lacking, actively ask for cushions
Only had coffee and ice cream. The waitress was not very happy with children around. Paying with card was possible but not really cool about it. No fresh ice scream available on our visit during the weekend.
Friendly staff, really delicious food. We had both wild boar pasta, lasagna, sandwiches, salads and pasta. In the back garden, there's a place for drinks and snacks
Only reason why I don’t give it 5 across the board is cause my Italian isn’t that great and so you definitely should have learnt a A2 level speaking Level before coming here. Staff are great just some family working hard especially Luca took care of the 4 of us every morning remember our order didn’t even have to say anything stepping into the bar. The dinner service in the back is like having an extreme backyard dinner tons of seating, great setting and our server was amazing. Yes they want cash cause they don’t want the debit machines taking the cut from the sale that is every debit machine everywhere. Patience is a virtue and if you’re a foreigner coming here do your own research. 👍

Nothing on stock. No ice cream, no vino rosatto (pink win), the only beer available is ipa which i don’t like.
There is a terminal to pay with the card but it is not allowed because in Italy You must pay cash everywhere because there are big taxes as said the owner.

Love this place - they have the best choice of salads you'll find anywhere in Tuscany. The panzanella is absolutely amazing - the best we've ever tasted. Great place to relax and take a break after visiting the beautiful beach at Baratti or having walked around the archeological park in Populonia itself. Highly recommended.
The staff who work there is very unkind and rude. They insist you pay them cash and give you a face when you want to pay with card, not to mention if you do pay in cash, good luck getting a receipt.
We have visited this bar many times for several years in the past and it is only becoming less and less pleasant when it comes to the service and staff attitude. We have decided not to attend this bar anymore and advise our friends to do the same.

Southwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the southwest side side of town. Start the day off with Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Faro della Rocchetta (di Piombino). All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park is a captivating open-air museum that showcases the rich history of the Etruscan civilization. Established in 1998, this park features ancient temples, industrial works, and monumental tombs. The site's origins date back to the early 1900s when locals discovered archaeological remains beneath layers of iron slag.
Fascinating place and definitely worth a visit. We have never seen anything like this in Europe, and it brought back memories of visits to Mesa Verde in the U.S.A. Amazing to see the Etruscan burial chambers which must have taken so much time to carve out of the rock. It's also a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours walking in the cool shade of the forest on a hot Tuscan summer day. The knowledable and friendly staff were great too! Don't forget to pop across the road to see the wonderful Baratti bay beach after your visit.

Highly recommended archaeological site where you can learn more about the Etruscans and especially their tombs. Very extensive area, you should take a lot of time, you can easily walk 2-3 through the area. In any case, take something to drink, sunscreen and good shoes.
There are also several guided tours per day, which are included in the ticket price and are held in English or Italian.
Worth the visit because of the findings and above all because of the guides able to tell history in a funny and approachable way!
Great Excavation site. Very impressive, especially the caved necropolis further up. It is definetly worth a trip. Make sure not to do it on the hottest day. There is not much shadow around.
Overpriced, inaccessible by public transport, but the site is very interesting. You have to pay for parking too, more info available in German and Italian only. The cashier lady was very unfriendly after we did not understand well her English. You pay separately for zones or much more for the whole site. We visited the necropolis section which was very interesting though.
We liked it very much! The ticket prices are not cheap, but reasonable. However, the price for all paths is a bit steep. We had not enough time for it, but would definitely go back!

If you plan to go with dog - officially dogs are NOT allowed at the beach. But if your dog is calm and quiet - life guard may let you in (or may not ;))

A small stone beach in a nice rocky bay, accesible by a steeply descending but comfortable path.. I would not spend all day here (I'm not a lover of crowdy beaches with bars) but it's perfect if you wait for a ferry.. Nice tourist path on the cliff to a next beach, free parking, shower on beach 👍
If you want to break your feet, this is the place to go. The view is stunning but there are huge stones everywhere, including in the water.Not suitable for children or without wearing adequate footwear.
We paid €25 for 2 sunloungers. We tried to go in the water but the kids could not make it in because of the stones.5 minutes later we kindly and politely asked if we could get our €25 back as there was no point in staying. Their response was that we saw there were stones when we arrived, and refused to refund us. The stones were visible on the shore but we could not tell what was in the water. Maybe it was because we are foreigners/tourists.
Note that I used the words rocks and stones and not pebbles.Those are not pebbles. Found a nice sandy beach down the road, not as fancy but the kids had a lots of fun.
Perfect place easy commute
Got there just by chance. Nice place to visit and see 2nd world war remains in a beautiful & stunning environment. The path will take you around the hill and takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
Aqesome place, the beach, it's a bit rocky, it's recomended that you have a chair, or something soft to lay down under the towel. The water it's pretty clean, lots of fish, nice blue color as you go further. Perfect place to go snorkeling or freediving. There is a parking very close, so it's very accesible. There is also a beach bar. The only downside, the beach is a bit small, it get's crowded, specially on weekends.
Nice beach with lifeguard, the water is clean. There are sunbeds, which you can rent. There are rocks but they are not sharp, it is quite save. There is a bar with drinks (mohito 7€) and snacks (bruschetta with tomato 4€, hamburger 5€, caprese 6€) and you can also buy regular dinner but I dont remember prices. Keep in mind that the kitchen is closed until 8pm (I dont know when they close it for ’siesta’. Moreover it is worth to wait here for sunset, there is an amazing view.
It feels like if you were in paradise. Amazing beach, water very clean & clear. Parking just minutes away.

Nestled within the historic Palazzo della Corte, the Museo Archeologico del Territorio di Populonia offers a captivating glimpse into the rich archaeological heritage of the Etruscan coast. With over 2,000 exhibits showcasing local history, including pottery and stone artifacts, this museum is intricately linked to the nearby Parco Archeologico di Baratti e Populonia. Visitors can explore how ancient civilizations utilized their environment and resources, particularly minerals.
Ticket for us was 6€ each, we learned a lot, and the lady that took us around was great and took us all to the centre as well.

Very nice smaller museum. Lovely exhibit on local history over a very long period, that is presented chronologically, which is nicely done. The silver wine jug (not doing it justice) is what I would considder the top piece and very striking. Other nice pieces include armor, daily used objects and burial pieces. Most certainly worth the +/- 7 euros.

An absolute jem of a museum. Lots of local finds from nearby excavations and ship wrecks. Etruscan, Roman and Byzantine artifacts. We had a guided tour, included in the orientation, for the 2 of us. Absolutely amazing. Loved it here. 5€ each was an absolute bargain. Thanks. I will come back and do the sites next time but were short on time.
Small historical museum on Etruscan history. It guides you through their origins and makings in the region chronologically with great attention to detail. You will spend a great time learning lots of stuff. The team is friendly and forthcoming. Thinking about going? Don't: Just go!

Probably the worst meal I've ever had in restaurants. Not sure if it’s the ingredients, the preparation, or my personal taste, but I was seriously trying to hold back my gag reflex. That awful smell and mismatched ingredients, it was absolutely not for me. The service leaves much to be desired as well, at least they took back what we didn't finish without asking questions. And those annoying flies...
Location is perfect but service was a bit sloppy (forgot a few things).
Also in one of the salads the lettuce was old but they changed it right away.
Overall an okay lunch.

Trip advisor says it's open, the booking page says it's open, but it is closed. So how do we rate this restaurant? Not very well, I guess, juding from the way they handle their webinformation. Will we try again? Don't think so. Will we reccomend it to others? Certainly not!!

We had a wonderful lunch here while in Tuscany. The amuse-bouche was fantastic! Three little bites of different flavors to whet your appetite. The starter was chestnut farinata with red shrimp which we split with no problem & the chestnuts added a little complexity to the taste. The lemon linguini with oysters & raspberry was my favorite! Then the monkfish medallion was wonderful. Highly recommend & our server was so kind even though we didn't speak much Italian. He even let us buy a bottle of the olive oil which was wonderful with the rustica bread. The tables are artwork & shown in the picture!
Most friendly staff we had yet in tuscany! Food was perfect. If you want some amazing cuisine with the little extra twist - this is your restaurant. The best thing were the appetizers from the kitchen. Crispy bread, tasty focciacia with finest olive oil and the best crabchips I‘ve ever had.

The ppl from the bar tried to fool us regarding the umbrella and two seats. One day the wanted 30 Euros and the day 20. We told them that and said, if it's 30 Euros we go one beach ahead because it's for free. Then they gave us 20 Euros.
We loved it here with our dog. We met really nice and friendly ppl. Dogs can run and swim it's sooo nice to see them.so happy. The besch is unique and so it's the ocean. It's really clean.
But the shower was not working. This is not good. The dog shower cost 50 cents. That's OK.
There is a bar for cold and expensive drinks. But not really food except French fries.

Incredible. The restaurant is beautifully located, you sit comfortably in a corner of a typical Italian pedestrian zone in Piambino. The staff was very attentive and their English amazing. The menu of „Fuoco alla Torre“ is special instead of just another trattoria. And most importantly: The food was nothing but amazing. Starter, main & dessert blew our minds. The wine was great too. Next time, we’ll have to eat the steak, it looked so, so great!

Today, while exploring the hillside near the Etruscan tombs, I stumbled upon Il Colore del Grano cocktail bar in Populonia. This hidden gem exceeded my expectations. Despite being in the off season, this restaurant turned out to be a remarkable find. The ambiance was delightful, and the staff and owners were enthusiastic about showcasing local ingredients and recipes. The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was excellent.
This place is a real little gem, we arrived too late for lunch but were offered a lovely charcuterie board which we thoroughly enjoyed. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and speak great English. The decor inside and outside is just so cool, such an amazing vibe throughout.
A real Italian family run restaurant - Nonna was playing with the grandchildren outside and it was so beautiful to see. There is something interesting to see in every corner, the furniture and art are very quirky and create a real authentic and individual ambience. We will definitely return for lunch or dinner when time allows. We’ve visited many places in Italy and this beautiful place is now one of our favourites, everything was perfect.

During our holiday in tuscany we dined at this restaurant three times. It is absolutely amazing! The location in ancient populonia is magnificent, the food is hilarious (Best Polpo I have eaten so far) and the staff is super-friendly. The great selection of local wines is also unique. We drank the best Rose Wine there (sol sera from bulicella winery). We can definitely recommend this place and will come back as soon as possible!!
Stumbled across this place today after walking up the hill from the Etruscan tombs below. In the off season to find anything open would have been good enough but to find this gem of a restaurant was nothing short of miraculous. Lovely atmosphere, great food and staff and owners passionate about showcasing their local produce and recipes. Can’t recommend enough.
The food was absolutely amazing. We went for lunch and had pulpo, vegetarian menu, ragu, seafood ravioli and seafood main dish. Everything was super with modern takes on classic Tuscany dishes and lots of flavor. Definitely recommended.

The staff was very friendly and great with the kids – which made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious: fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care.
Highly recommended: the Tallero Rosé Vino Spumante Extra Dry– a refreshing, fruity wine that paired perfectly with lunch. I even bought an extra bottle to enjoy at home!

Ristorante da Balestra is a fantastic establishment that offers delectable local cuisine and exceptional service. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, providing intriguing stories about each dish and offering helpful recommendations. While seafood wasn't sampled, the meat dishes were outstanding. The desserts were also sublime, including a special pasta creation for a child. Gratitude is expressed for the wonderful experience and the restaurant comes highly recommended. The restaurant itself boasts an inviting atmosphere with warm and cozy surroundings.
Great place with delicious local food, very friendly service that can tell you a story about all the dishes and recommend you the one that you were looking for. I didn't had that pleasure to taste seafood but the meat was amazing. Deserts were also great. They even made an out of card pasta for my little boy ;) THANK YOU SO MUCH. I really recommend this place!

A perfect spot for lunch or dinner in Piombino! The service is warm and attentive, the food is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. The octopus is perfectly cooked, the crema di ricotta is absolutely delicious, and the wine pairs beautifully with the meal.
Just remember: this is Italy, and here things move at a gentle, unhurried pace. Embrace the “piano piano” spirit and give yourself time to enjoy!
Amazing restaurant! Had a lovely dinner here with great 1l house wine, 2x antipasti, 2x primi piatti and 2x dolce for a very reasonable price of €70,00 food price quality unbeatable! Staff very friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere in restaurant cosy and warm! 100% recommended!

I went couple years ago and it was the one of the best pizza that I ate in my life. I hope one day I can have the same experience here in Brazil.

There was a very limited menu on the day we arrived, but the meal we had was very good. Decent wine too.
Menu only in Italian, the waiters absolutely couldn’t speak English. No ketchup available for the fries the kids have ordered. Food with nice names but not tasty and expensive.
I’m sure the food is very nice but Google told us it was open and it wasn’t … long a difficult to drive to and a total waste of time !
Poor service and unpleasant food. We were not even given cutlery to eat the second course and were then charged an extortionate amount of money. Feeling absolutely ripped off.......
A perfect seaside location with good quality food. Staff are very courteous and helpful. A must visit restaurant.

I don’t know how old was that bread because it was so hard and dry it was impossible to eat it. Rest of the dinner nice and tasty. Long waiting time for a table and super slow service, waiting by the empty table for super long to be clear and ready for next customer.

I strongly do not recommend this place. Customer service is at very low level. the Staff is very unfriendly towards foreigners and handly speak english. Opening hours are not up to date. In order to eat there you have to book at least day before and looks like you spend 2-3 hours to eat. so I Reserved the place but never come
back as not being welcome. Better go elsewhere.
Pretty setting, however, ALL the staff were rude and although the pizza tasted good it was soggy. A wheelchair user was poorly accommodated and made to feel awkward for simply trying to access the restaurant.
The restaurant is right on the beach. The pasta dishes were very tasty and generous. The waitress was attentive, knowledgeable and keen to please. As an extra bonus we discovered a local speciality Sgroppino : lemon sorbet with vodka - delicious.
Avoid - Stopped here with two other friends - not one of us had a good dish between us. The dirty glasses should've tipped us off.The mussels were soaking in saltwater and butter. The gnocchi was mush and also drenched in butter. The spaghetti alla scoglio wasn't bad - the noodles were done perfectly and had good flavor. Unfortunately it came with a bunch of seafood not mentioned on the menu description. Avoid the cheese plate as well - very rubbery, discount supermarket- level quality, served with a plastic serving size honey packet. Last gripe - we waited at least 25 minutes for our appetizers, and then another 40 after our plates were cleared for our main course, while locals who arrived after us were served within minutes. We felt like we wasted a good meal :(
