Agropoli in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Agropoli, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Agropoli is a seaside town on the Cilento coast, known for its sandy beaches, clear water, and a scenic harbor. Its historic center rises on a promontory, with narrow lanes leading up to a well-preserved medieval gate and the Aragonese castle overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. The town makes a convenient base for visiting nearby archaeological sites like Paestum and exploring Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. In summer, Agropoli hosts numerous local festivals and offers easy access to boat trips along the coast.
With favorites like Al Dente Spaghetteria, Castello Angioino Aragonese, and Marina di Praia, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Zio Tatà - Agropoli and Hoshi Japanese Fusion so you can get the best taste of Agropoli while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Hiking Trails
The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO-listed landscape featuring small towns perched between mountains and the sea. A popular activity is the Classic Amalfi Coast walking tour, an 11-day journey along the Footpath of the Gods, offering unrivaled Italian coastal hiking. The self-guided walk allows exploration at a personalized pace through idyllic villages like Praiano, Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Maestra dei Villaggi.
Breathtaking and unforgettable! The Amalfi Coast is truly one of the most stunning places you’ll ever see—the views are absolutely postcard-perfect at every turn. Towering cliffs, sparkling turquoise waters, and picturesque villages make this destination something straight out of a dream. I highly recommend visiting by coach if possible. The roads are incredibly narrow, winding, and steep, and while experienced drivers might manage, it’s not for the faint-hearted! If you do decide to drive, go for a small car—a big vehicle would be a real challenge on those roads. Beaches are beautiful but often require a walk down the cliffs, and some do charge for entry. It’s worth it for the experience, though! The restaurants along the coast are wonderful—laid-back, welcoming, and happy to let you enjoy your meal without rushing you, which is refreshing in such a popular tourist spot. Parking is expensive—around €10 per hour—so if you’re driving, plan to make the most of your time there. Honestly, words don’t do it justice—I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. A place you’ll never forget!

Very cool views from a boat tour. The road is very busy and filled with traffic for 4 months of the year - it was still busy in late September. Ferries are probably the better option to see everything the coast has to offer.
Brendan C — Google review
Beautiful town. We went end Sept beginning of Oct and we found it busy - I'm not sure I'd like it at the height of the season! Narrow streets with lots of lovely restaurants and gift shops. Restaurants offer similar choices of food and drink and cost is relative to quality, the average for us was about 45€ each which was 1 main meal and a drink each. Be prepared for lots of hills and stairs! Taxis are expensive but buses and ferries are a cheaper way to travel. The buses are a hair-raising ride but the scenery and views are spectacular. Tickets for the bus are bought either on the bus, some hotels & shops or the terminal. Ferry tickets can be bought online or at the port usually about 10€ but you may be charged extra for luggage. The ferry and bus timetables are pretty spot on but beware of popular times - the bus won't stop if it's full and your next bus could be up to an hour wait. The buses can cost between 1.50€ to 2.50€ depending on time of day. All stops are request stops, other than the terminal. The weather can affect the running of the ferries so always best to have a back up plan. We did a tour bus to Pompei & Herculaneum which was about 2 hours travelling but that was also picking up other people on the way.

We were looking forward to see Amalfi coast. The view from the top was spectacular. The boat was a nice experience. The town was underwhelming. Not much things to see except for church and small gift shop (approx. 10 min) It's mainly beach and view, if you want seeing the market, go to Sorrento. Highly recommend.
Mika A — Google review
We visited Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. After a white-knuckle drive along a cliff-hugging road, we were rewarded with the most spectacular scenery. Words cannot convey the absolute beauty of the Amafi Coast. So here are some pictures. Better to see it in real life!
Dan T — Google review
Arrive by sea and you can see how beautiful the coastline is. But to say its busy is an understatement. The mainstreet is wall to wall people. Narrow at times, it still has a need for cars bikes and electric carts to go up and down it. Once you manage to get further up the widens and you see the real Amalfi. Move away from this street and things become better. Still busy, but not uncontrollably. Views are fantastically pretty. Recommend turning right first off the boat and walking up the hill. Longish walk but very worth it. Do the main Street once you have taken in this view. You'll accept the masses after that. Only views from the sea included, as that would spoil it
TEE-GEE-EYE — Google review
The most beautiful drive I've ever taken with breathtaking views around every turn! The roads are narrow with tons of cars truck, motorcycles and pedestrians so if you're not an aggressive driver, this is not for you! Parking is almost impossible but if you can score a parking spot, walking around Amalfi is a delight!
Michael F — Google review
The area is quite busy and the terrain is a little hard to walk as its up a hill but it's a beautiful area. There are lots of shopping spots, lots of places to get souvenirs. My husband is still talking about how amazing the gelato was and I ate a lemon sorbet in a giant lemon and it was excellent. Highly recommend this place to see once in your lifetime

Marina di Praia

Beach
Marina di Praia is a charming and laid-back fishing hamlet located just east of Positano. This picturesque destination features a cluster of cottages, a small strip of sand, colorful boats, and a couple of restaurants. Visitors can rent a boat with or without a skipper to explore the coastline or simply relax among the whitewashed houses in the nearby village of Praiano. The area offers stunning views of the Saracen watchtower and crystal-clear waters for swimming.
We both enjoyed this cute little bay more than anything during our self-driven Amalfi Coast day trip. Bus tours don't seem to stop here, so it is mostly people who drive themselves, and therefore it is not overcrowded at all. It is truly magical, and you can even rent your own boat here. Would be nice to try next time!
Stephen — Google review
Beautiful beach and breathtaking views! One of the most scenic spots we visited on the Amalfi Coast. Crystal clear water, peaceful vibes, and an unforgettable time. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re in the area!
Silvio A — Google review
Such a nice beach nestled in a rock area. Lot of restaurants nearby, you also can rent the sun-beds at 50 euros a day which is very convenient. There is a parking lot as well which is a very nice to have in the area otherwise there is also a shuttle service that get you there
Yousra M — Google review
Marina di Praia is absolutely magical. I loved that there are two sections to enjoy. The main beach is a pebble beach (definitely bring water shoes, I needed them), and the water is calm, stunning, and so comfortable. You’re nestled between two towering cliffs, and it feels like you’re in a secret, special place. The second section is just along the path by the boat tours, you can drop your things by the path and dive straight into the sea. Surrounded by boats, it honestly feels like you’re living in a movie. This spot has such a unique magic to it, I’ll never forget it.
Mike P — Google review
Great spot, quite and not too touristic. The trattoria next to the beach is great
Harry K — Google review
Definitely check out this beach if you’re trying to enjoy the water on the amalfi coast. There’s a free and paid section. The free side has the sun in the morning, so this would be better as an afternoon/ late morning spot. The market nearby is pricey, so highly recommended bringing your own lunch & drinks.
James P — Google review
Very beautiful beach situated in the cliffs, the best beach in the area. Also has nice restaurants, restrooms and bed rental available. Beds were around 70euro but have a spot for laying a towel down, but you'll need to get there early-ish to grab a spot.

It's a really beautiful place! If in amalfi coast for some days you should take a visit! I recommend you go in the morning if you want sun.

Villa Rufolo is a 13th-century villa with Moorish influences, renowned for its stunning cascading gardens and terraces that offer breathtaking views of the sea. Over the years, it has become a significant tourist attraction, especially after hosting the first editions of Wagner's Concerts in its gardens. The Villa's international reputation grew further when it was acquired by the Provincial Tourist Board of Salerno and opened to the public.
This town has become know as the city of music. My wife and I went to Villa Rufolo and it was so beautiful. The flowers looked like something that came out of a movie. The exhibits were all nice and historical. If you are ever in Ravello you must check out Villa Rufolo.

One of the most beauiful places ive been to. Up above the Amalfi Coast with outstanding views this small town has it all. The gardens are spectacular and we were lucky enough to have room to move having visited off season in March. The skies cleared and the only word for it is Wow. In my opinion it leaves the coast for dead, a lot quieter and a lot to see and do. Cafes are great and our hotel Lolanda was amazing. I cant stress how important it is to take a little time and go off the beaten track up to this place. Visit all the gardens at the top and you wont be disappointed.
Lisa B — Google review
Must visit, but try earlier than in the evening, as the sun goes away from 4 pm in October. Sunsets are amazing though. And in October there are not so many flowers and colors like in summer pictures, but still nice. The house is unfortunately empty, and there’s not much to do.

It very beautiful up here. we visited this place in Sept 2023 during our Amalfi coast tour. It is a trek to get to but when you get here you will be greeted with spectacular views! I can get busy at peak times but it is beautiful. The gelato from the small cafe is absolutely worth the walk. Definitely recommended.

Extremly beautiful villa, gardens and view. The ticket was 8 euros, no line, we got to experience the place all by ourselves, maybe because it is off season (november 2025, monday). We got to see the garden with winter flowers, but still extremly beautiful.

Villa Rufolo was such a hidden gem here in Ravello. Really enjoyed the small room showing the videos and giving some history of the place which helped color a beautiful picture of music, history, and brilliant views. I highly recommend making a stop here if you are visiting Ravello. My best advice, take a scooter to the top of this hill instead of this bulky busses, you’ll be happy you did!

Villa Rufolo is a must - see hot spots destination for anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast. A real hidden gem on the Amalfi Coast and one of my favorite place to see it. This is nature’s artwork on display . A very impressive, stunning place with a unique color of the spirits, worth all the raves about it. Worth spending a day here soaking in the ambience, surrounded by incredible scenery, pure natural peaceful, beautiful masterpieces of gardens and magnificent spectacular breathtaking views from every corner. It’s a truly enchanting and experience visiting this beautiful place There is beauty around every bend. Serenity in every view!!! Simply breathtaking!!!

Nestled in the heart of Salerno, Al Dente is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This modern eatery boasts high ceilings and a vibrant atmosphere, perfect for enjoying inventive pasta dishes alongside delightful bruschetta and charcuterie plates. One standout dish is their fresh potato gnocchi, elegantly tossed in a rich plum tomato sauce complemented by sundried tomatoes, capers, basil, and Pecorino cheese.
This place was delicious! It was a nice little gem to find before our train departure! I saw a few locals eating lunch here. It's a small place and they manage to accommodate a pretty good amount of people. I loved that the kitchen was open and you could see the chefs cooking all the dishes. The food was very tasty!! I loved it!
Thayra P — Google review
Honestly this was a really good spot in Salerno. Everything from the service to the food was really good. I really liked how they cooked the pasta. Every dish was very tasty and presented very nice. I got the carbonara and pesto pasta BOTH very good! If you are in Salerno make a stop at this place. It is a small place and it does get very busy you might have to wait for a table. Worth it!
Alexa C — Google review
We saw people lining up there every nights and we decided to try it. There was no line at lunch time so it worked for is nicely. The place was great, their buschetta was sooo fresh and light. We ordered spaghetti in lemon and ham, and pesto, and both were so flavourful with great amount of amazing sauce. I preferred pasta to be well cooked, but the Italian way (or Salerno way) is that they should still be lightly hard and chewy, so I accepted that to really enjoy the local experience.
Yen L — Google review
I feel like I got lucky cause I didn’t have to wait (only 1 person) and they were turning people away who didn’t have reservations. It was crowded but not really in an overwhelming way. Understaffed for how busy they are. Food was good. Very pretty. But no wow factor. Perfectly al dente per its name. And again tasty but for what I’ve had so far and the reviews about this place I think it was over hyped. But again still good. Bruschetta options creative but I didn’t like it as much as the pasta. Might be my American taste buds though.
Christina H — Google review
We’ve eaten here almost every night of our stay in Salerno, because it was that good! The staff is really nice, but pro tip: try arriving a little earlier on weekends, or try calling to make a reservation, otherwise there will be a queue! Also if there’s a queue outside don’t forget to get inside to put your name on the list!
Luisa G — Google review
I made a reservation in the morning, at the bar, I repeated 2 times 10 pm and when we showed up for the reservation they told us our reservation was at 8 am. They told me they were trying to do their best to get us in, so we waited 30-40 minutes outside until they prepared a table for us. In the meantime, many other people came inside. Otherwise, the food and service were great. They offer free still or cold mineral water or at room temperature.
Monica B — Google review
I waited around 45 minutes for a table but it was totally worth it. Food is amazing, the line of people outside waiting for a table on a Monday evening already says more than enough… i tried lemon pasta and it was amazingly delicious, filling but at the same time light. I loved it so much I even want to come back tomorrow to eat it again… the price is also correct. I think they need a bigger place though! :)
Monika N — Google review
Eggplant pomadora and pesto pasta were full of flavor and relatively quickly served. Eggplant meatballs were a great presentation as well as taste to match A few delays in ordering due to QR scans to access the menu. A very busy spot with plenty of attuned staff. A definite stop for us again.

Located in the village, Castello Angioino Aragonese is a triangular-shaped castle with remnants dating back to the sixth century. While it may be closed at times, visitors can check the opening hours at the tourist office before planning a visit. The castle offers stunning views of the city and the Mediterranean, making it a must-see attraction. Although not well-known among tourists, its well-preserved state and historical significance make it worth exploring.
Great experience. Nice calm atmosphere. People in tje neighbouhood are very friendly and supportive

This is a small and very cute castle that cost €1/person to visit. There was an art exhibit and there is a little room that shows a video of the history of the castle. The room with the video is super small and only fits about 8 people and only has one tiny window to ventilate the entire space. The views are amazing!

2 euros to enter. As its under restauration theres not much to see here. But here are bathrooms so 2 euros for that is ok.
Mikko D — Google review
Nice old small well-preserved castle, the entrance is just 1 euro, inside you can find some temporary and permanent art exhibitions, which is a nice bonus. The main advantage - stunning views to the bay and mountains around. Can recommend to visit, if you are somewhere around, probably doesn't make sense to travel there deliberately from far away
Oleg B — Google review
We visited in October of 2023. Most of the castle was closed off. Nice view but not a lot of content sadly.
Skyduke — Google review
We visited early November. There was none else there so checking it out was leisurely and relaxed. It’s an old castle perched high as they usually are. The views are sensational from this castle. Everything else in the old town was shut incding the restaurants. If in Agropoli the castle is worth the visit.

Oh Wow it's a must!! Agropoli is a surprise at every corner. The palace is one of the highlights. Nighttime is a great time to visit. Great for families. €1 / person. Well worth it. The views of the city and the Mediterranean are fantastic. It's in Il Centro but you'll walk through the ancient Centro and you'll feel like you're right in medieval times. Not to be missed.

This Castle has a tringle shape and its located in the ancient small town of Agropoli in Cilento. At the top of the "borgo" was an italian military fortess in the past and now a fascinating place for its story, home to cultural events and theater events outdoors during the summer. It's worth a visit 🏰 #Cilento #Italy #Campania

The majority of eateries in Agropoli are situated in the historic district, along the picturesque waterfront as well as inland where patrons can savor delectable dishes crafted with top-notch ingredients sourced from both land and sea. The café Zio Tatà in Agropoli is particularly noteworthy for its captivating ambiance, exceptional coffee, and hospitable owner. Visitors can relish this heavenly spot from morning till night.
By far our favourite place so far, and highly unlikely to be beaten. We were going to the castle, when this opened, and we had to go in simply for the view. What an amazing spot. Super friendly and helpful staff. Great «extra’s» in the fried bread, beer-snacks and such. We had two Entrecote Locale, Volcano Steak and Spinach Ravioli. It was all amazing. The fried bread appetizers were also incredible. We had some white wine, some red wine and some beer and had a great time. There was also a dancing baby, whom the staff danced with. Great place with fantastic food and an out-of-this-world view. Worth the walk to the top!

It is very romantic place located almost in the castle. Service was very friendly. Food was ok. I found it a bit salted and portion was rather small. But it was ok. Prices are average. Panorama was really amazing. So, it is good located touristic restaurant. Nothing more nothing less.

We came to Zio Tatà hoping for a beautiful dinner with a sunset view near the castle in Agropoli, but it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had in Italy. The entrance was confusing — we couldn’t figure out how to reach the terrace and ended up entering through what felt like a back door. The owner greeted us with a cold, stony expression, showed no willingness to speak English, and offered no help understanding the menu, which was only in Italian. Instead of a proper “catch of the day,” each of us received a single tiny piece of fish — literally just one bite — along with small servings of potatoes and salad. The entire meal, with a bottle of rosé, cost nearly €90, which was completely unreasonable given the meager portions and indifferent service. Throughout dinner, we felt rushed and unwelcome, even though the restaurant was nearly empty and we were dressed appropriately. Perhaps we simply missed the unwritten local rule that this is a private club for snobs, and we were the clueless tourists crashing the party. Either way, this place showed a total lack of hospitality and respect for guests. Our evening was completely ruined — we will never return and cannot recommend it to anyone who values good service and the warm welcome Italy is known for.
Maria J — Google review
The view on the terrace is great. But besides this, they use deceptive practices. For example: I ordered a linguine with wild fennel (16€). But this was no longer in stock. So said. The waiter suggested replacing this with gamberi. Result: a mediocre linguine topped with a raw shrimp barely the size of a spoon (25€). So 1 shrimp for €9 an no fennel. This is ridiculous. I asked for an explanation and this was “the proposal of the day”. While the most expensive primi on the menu was €20. They're just shameless gangsters. Place to be avoided for tourists. You are screwed.
