El Jardín del Califa is a charming and elegant eatery located in a historic locale, offering a unique dining experience. The restaurant's lush garden, adorned with palm trees and lit by flaming torches, sets the stage for an enchanting meal. Specializing in North African cuisine, the menu features an array of delectable dishes such as mezes, pastelas, tagines, and Sultans cheesecake.
One of our favourite restaurants- anywhere. The haloumi starter is out of this world, and the slow cooked lamb with caramelised ginger and pistachio couscous is insane. The deserts are also superb. All of this in an extremely charming setting. I couldn’t rate it higher!

The atmosphere here in this garden restaurant tucked back into the Hotel is lovely. Traditional style dishes are served up with flare, but unfortunately the ceramic did not keep my meal hot, so it was not as enjoyable as it could’ve been. Service was efficient enough, but not all that friendly.

During our road trip, we stopped in the beautiful white village of Vejer de la Frontera for lunch at El Jardín del Califa—and it was a fantastic choice! The stunning decor and warm ambiance instantly transport you to Morocco. The food was excellent—we had Harira (a flavorful vegetable soup with chickpeas), a delicious Mezze selection, and perfectly grilled mixed meats, all packed with authentic flavors. As we had our small dog, we booked outdoor seating in advance. Despite unpredictable March weather, the skies cleared, letting us enjoy a wonderful meal in the garden. Welcoming staff and a memorable experience—highly recommend for anyone visiting Vejer!
Sabrina P — Google review
We just ate at this charming café in our hotel and wow—what a hidden gem! El Jardín del Calista completely exceeded our expectations. We ordered the shawarma, hummus, and Mediterranean salad, and every bite was bursting with flavour. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the quality was top notch. The highlight was definitely the spicy sauce—packed with flavour but seriously fire. If you’re not into heat, you might want to skip it, but if you are, it’s a must-try. This spot is perfect for a quick, satisfying snack or light meal. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something tasty and fresh in a relaxed setting. We’ll definitely be back! UPDATE We loved it so much we went back for dinner and it was spectacular. Easily one of the best overall experiences from atmosphere to food quality to service that we’ve experienced in Europe.

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at El Jardín del Califa this afternoon, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. We had originally booked a table inside, but as the sun was shining, the team kindly moved us to the most beautiful table in the garden—an idyllic setting that truly added magic to our meal. The food was simply exceptional—full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and passion. Every dish was a delight. The service was warm, attentive and faultless—nothing was too much trouble, and we felt genuinely welcomed throughout. The atmosphere? Just perfect. Surrounded by lush greenery, with the scent of jasmine in the air and the gentle hum of happy diners, it made for the most memorable and relaxed family meal. Thank you to the entire team for making it so special. A must-visit gem in Vejer!
Luke C — Google review
We went here after a friend’s recommendation and was very happy. The food was very tasty. As a cheese lover, I really enjoyed the “crujiente de queso”. The eggplant dish was very delicious as well. The main course “kuzu tandir” has a peculiar presentation and was extremely delicious. Staff is friendly and helpful, prices are okay. Surroundings are really beautiful, especially the terrace, patio with lots of plants, and the bathroom area.
Hilal B — Google review
We were recommended El Jardin del Califa by some locals. We dropped in, without a reservation on a Sunday evening. Even though there were no tables available, we were able to be squeezed in after a table left. The space feels magical, consisting of a beautiful courtyard, with beautiful decor and nice tables. Our server, Juan, was amazing. Not only was he professional and diligent, but also provided us with some recommendations that we decided to follow and have no regrets whatsoever. He was attentive during the entire meal, checking if everything was ok and if we needed anything else, but not in a pushy way at all. Kudos to him, he was great. Food was delicious too. We went with the Califa mezze, hallouimi and the eggplant dish with meat and rice. All were solid choices, packed with middle eastern flavours that we enjoyed a lot. I definitely recommend this place, and would come back in any future visits to Vejer.

Very very Beautiful place. Great place for a romantic dinner but also with kids. Feels like out of a Disney Theme park, just in real 😉 Really really good food. I had the chicken Tangrine, extremely delicious. But just everything was great. You definitely have to make a reservation.

4 Estaciones Restaurante Vejer is a cozy establishment located near the San Francisco gastronomic market. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience with a small indoor dining area and an interesting terrace, partly situated on stairs. The menu features traditional cuisine made with local ingredients but influenced by international flavors, particularly from the oriental kitchen. What sets this restaurant apart is its seasonal menu that changes according to the time of year.
Brilliant modern Spanish fusion. This should be on your list of places to eat in Vejer. The pork ribs were sensational, croquettes very tasty and the Caesar salad had amazing local Herpac Mojama (cured tuna). The menu offers veggie and vegan versions of some dishes. Friendly staff, indoor and outdoor seating and good wine! Easy 5 stars.
Josh W — Google review
Good quality food in a pretty setting. Can recommend the tuna and pad Thai.
Laura J — Google review
We ate dinner here. First of all, super super friendly staff. And the food was amazing as well. Nice combinations! The tuna was so fresh. Only reason for the 4 stars for the food is because the dishes came very fast behind each other. When we finished the first dish, the main cam straight after, same for the desert. Never the less we absolutely enjoyed and do recommend it!
Simon G — Google review
We popped in here for lunch on a whim while wandering around Vejer. We were so pleasantly surprised by how lovely our meal turned out to be! This place is so charming, with adorable decor and an unassuming front, completed by outdoor seating options perfectly complementing the most beautiful town of Vejer. We had a few small dishes to share and all of them were outstanding but most impressive to me was how kind the waitress was to me when I asked for a plant based option. Though there were no explicit veggie options on the menu, they made me up the most incredible noodle salad that I’m still thinking about months later!! They were so accommodating and lovely about this and I was very grateful to have been extended this kindness. Would highly recommend this place to anyone in Vejer- it is absolutely delightful, and we will definitely be back!

This is my favourite restaurant in Vejer. Fantastic food, service and ambience. The kitchen is both precise and inventive. Highly recommended

Our visit to 4 Estacoines was truly exceptional from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the roasted aubergine starter and every dish we had was beautifully presented and full of flavour. Our server was incredibly attentive and helped us with recommendations from the menu as it was very hard to chose from all the tempting dishes. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing and we could have stayed all night! We can't wait to come back!".
Marea G — Google review
Very very good food. The chef has all the potential to gain a Michelin star. Really satisfied with the food!! Unfortunately, I won't give the fifth star because of the service, which was far from being nearly as good as the food. Nothing too bad, but it simply was not up to the food quality expectations... Very recommend: Papas Aliñas, Tartar atun, ...and GAZPACHO SORBET! Just incredible food, chapeau. Wish the service was that good. Thanks for the culinary experience, mr. Chef!

If you’re in Vejer de la Frontera, you can’t miss stopping for lunch or dinner at this amazing restaurant. We ordered several dishes to share so we could try more things, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The staff are incredibly kind, and the quality/quantity/price ratio is spot on. Highly recommended!

Castle
Perched atop the town of Vejer de la Frontera in Spain's Cadiz province, Castillo de Vejer, also known as the Castle of Vejer de la Frontera, dates back to the 10th and 11th centuries. This historic site was declared a National Monument in 1931 and is currently closed for renovations. The castle offers stunning views of the surrounding area and features a small ethnographic museum showcasing life in the town's past.
A spectacular Flamenco experience each Friday and Saturday. 100% recommended. It’s also very hard to describe so be open minded to appreciate such talent in a very unlikely yet beautiful setting.
Annie S — Google review
Not sure what kind of access you can normally have here. We got in by booking a tour and our guide literally had "the keys to the castle". It's a rather small castle that does not take long to explore but there are some great views of the water.
Knud H — Google review
When we entered the castle, there was a youth movement playing and the leader asked us if we would want to have a free guide. We said yes and before we know a little 10-year-old boy was guiding us in Spanish. although we didn't understand much of it, we could kind of understand what he was talking about, it was very funny. The castle itself isn't really special, it has a room that represents the living style from back then and it has a garden.
Manu V — Google review
Free castle with a lot of history Not much left of it but the views are stunning
Kevin S — Google review
A very unique place to be. It makes you calm and gives you peace of mind while you are there.
Ol G — Google review
The castle has a nice view of the surrounding town. There is a small ethno museum that shows life in the town in the past. We had a tour with a scout troop which was a cute idea for the castle to offer.
Adam N — Google review
Gorgeous white village ... lovely little streets, picture-perfect around every corner ... You must stop here and walk
Simon B — Google review
Given that the castle is free well worth a visit. Beautiful gateway and courtyard. The highlight for me was being able to walk on the battlements with great views if Vejer rooftops. These can be busy as this is very much on the Vejer tourist group trail. Check the web site for opening times! Sadly, the interior of the building is largely privately owned so you can’t see inside. The restaurant boasts a terrace with picturesque views of wildflower fields and is known for its all-female culinary team that prepares mouthwatering dishes like slow-braised pork cheeks with apricots and almonds.
Lovely place with an interesting interior, slightly different from casual Spanish style. Food was amazing, very delicious, took 4 sharing plates for 3 people and got stuffed. The staff are very friendly and speak a bit of English. Overall great experience and will definitely stop next time we are passing by. Oh, and they welcome dogs outside and inside!

An absolute gem of a place! Beautiful setting (we pre-booked a table on the terrace) and lovely friendly, smiling and efficient staff. The food was fabulous, with finally balanced delicate flavours and a nice varied menu. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommended, don’t miss it

The chefs in our 5 star restaurant should really come here for cooking lessons! After poor food almost everywhere we went finally we found Corredera 55. Fabulous food at great prices and very friendly helpful staff. 10/10 - well done.

With beautiful food, super friendly staff and stunning views, this really is a "must visit"! The croquettes and the lemon cheesecake dessert are two of my many favourites on this varied menu. ❤️❤️❤️
Edith S — Google review
I don't normally gush when writing reviews but this restaurant deserves high praise. Located in (old) Vejer, a small historic town situated in the mountains, where all the buildings are painted white which makes it stand out on the drive to Cádiz. It has a cluster of cute little lanes with independent shops, restaurants and apartments. Owned and managed by a lovely Scottish lady, who had enough of the cold and wet stuff and decided to start a new adventure in Spain and found this town - Corredera 55 sophisticated but casual, decor is simple but classy and the menu is varied and (all) very tempting for both meat-lover and veggies alike. There is also an outdoor terrace with seating for approx. 30. Hosting by the owner/manager is first class, waiting tables is an all male crew and in the kitchen, local ladies with the hands of angels delivering a simply scrumptious menu. If you visit Vejer, I would thoroughly recommend you have a meal here.
Natasha R — Google review
What a beautiful place with the most helpful and respectful staff, I had the pleasure to visit vejer with my family and we heard so much about 55 from our other friends and they couldn’t stop talking about the beautiful food and the flavours. We had the Cadiz mussels and rice, wish I could have had more it was that delicious…I can honestly say I will be back next year for more dishes off this beautiful menu…If you are ever in Vejer this place is a must

Food was incredible. I had the Octopus in the photo and it was cooked and presented perfectly. It's part of a local chain that has a great reputation. Outdoor seating available in the summer, with wonderful views. For the record the chicken croquettes were some of the best I have tried in Spain. Decor is great also, so the complete package.

Delicious food! The desert I had was mango panacotta and I really loved it! Service was excellent! The price was very reasonable. Good value for money!
Marusya H — Google review
Indisputably the best restaurant in Vejer. We stayed in Vejer for 5 days for a wedding nearby and tried lots of options but kept coming back to Las Delicias. The burrata salad is absolutely amazing, the salmorejo is thick and flavourful, and every main we had was top notch. Service was great, food was great, right in Vejer main strip with amazing sunset views - can't ask for much more.
Brendan C — Google review
Really impressive meal. Carpaccio was incredible and the spatchcock Chicken with chimmichuri and garlic sauce was perfectly cooked and delicious. Sea Bass skewer and Pork is recommended too. Strong flavor; well seasoned. Don’t expect the Tuna to be bursting with flavor, but a strong meal within its own right. Worth a visit.
Dan B — Google review
This restaurant is unique. It’s a theatre turned into dining room using “pallets”, the 1x1.5m wooden structure used in Spain to transport and store materials, building and otherwise. The food is outstanding, which explains why it’s difficult to get a table in the most beautiful room (the main dining hall) in the same day. It really pays to reserve in advance, for the following day for instance. My favourite dish out of the three we had were the six squid croquettes, which were absolutely delicious. But the steak tartare was sublime and the starter, a ceviche that seemed a mixture of guacamole and ceviche, with a lovely flavour of coriander wrapping it up smoothly, was superb too. Indeed a place to try out while in Vejer.
Anand E — Google review
The view is very nice and some of the dishes were well done. The photo shows what was supposed to be Cesar salad. The lubina was very nicely done in fairness The other main problem here is that the dishes are served very fast, in each case the following course arrived before we finished the previous and the whole thing in under 50 mins. They are charging good restaurant prices so the fast food approach to getting the food out as quickly as possible doesn't fit
Daniel C — Google review

This place was ok, but it is pricey. The waiter was not very friendly and seemed rather annoyed. There was a main menu and another daily menu they had on the chalkboard. The mini burger was delicious. Sadly, they did not have a full size burger on the main menu.

We had the hake fish fingers for starters, which were delicious and set us up for the main course. Unfortunately for my partner the wrong dish dish was served, tuna meatballs instead of Thai green curry - no difference eh!!!, but meat was not fully cooked and she left it. My fish course wasn't fully cooked either. Started well but left very disappointed.

Fantastic place to eat! The food was bursting with flavour — every dish felt like it was made with care, spice, and soul. Whether you're into tagines, grilled meats, or just want to get lost in a mountain of couscous, this spot delivers. The setting is just as special as the food. Sit out on the patio and you’re treated to sweeping views of the countryside — perfect for a lazy lunch . But the real magic is tucked away inside: a cosy cave-like room at the back, full of warm lighting and Moroccan charm. It’s intimate, a little mysterious, and the kind of place you want to stay in long after your plate’s empty. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a meal with flavour, character, and serious atmosphere.

A Meat Lover’s Paradise in Vejer de la Frontera If you’re visiting Vejer and love meat, La Castillería is an absolute must. This place is legendary—and rightfully so. We came without a reservation (which I wouldn’t recommend), but luck was on our side and we managed to grab a table at 1:30 PM. The place was already jam-packed, and it’s easy to see why. We started with the blue cheese and artichoke salad. It was rich, creamy, and flavorful—slightly too creamy for my taste, but still very enjoyable. Then came the eggplant with minced beef, and honestly, it might have been the best eggplant dish I’ve ever had. The flavors were deep, savory, and unforgettable. But the real showstopper? The leg of lamb with enchilada seasoning. Cooked to absolute perfection, it had just the right amount of salt and spice. I don’t say this lightly—I’ve never enjoyed a piece of lamb quite like this before. We also shared a grilled veggie plate to balance things out, which was fresh and nicely prepared. La Castillería isn’t just another steakhouse—it’s one of the best meat-focused restaurants I’ve experienced in all of Europe. Make a reservation, come hungry, and prepare to be impressed.
Dave E — Google review
It’s is expensive!!! BUT the food is fantastic. It is strictly a meat restaurant and the loin is a 500g portion. It comes with a little vegetables on the plate, but there is an option to order a platter for the table if you’re in a group. They were considerate of our 4 year old and offered him sausage and chips.

Great place: very nice ambiance to eat (both outside and inside) and excellent steaks and other Spanish fine dining. Prices are relatively high for Spain but still reasonable. English menus, but staff is less comfortable with English. Very popular with the Spanish, so come on time or accept to wait for a table.
Marc L — Google review
The tastiest food we had on our holiday was here, good portions & friendly staff. One of the places not to be missed.
Gary H — Google review
A restaurant that mistakes proximity for service. The evening began with an unnecessary indignity: handing over payment details just to secure a reservation. One wonders if the restaurant fears its food so little that it demands money before a guest has even walked through the door. When the dishes arrived, the imbalance became clear. The Gallega loin was excellent — rich, tender, and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, it only served to highlight the mediocrity surrounding it. The Retinto was forgettable, the sort of cut you could buy from a Vejer’s area butcher at a quarter of the cost and grill yourself with more satisfaction. Beyond that, the cooking was acceptable but hardly deserving of the stratospheric pricing. Overpriced is too gentle a word; opportunistic might be closer. But if the food raised eyebrows, the service raised alarms. A revolving door of waiters came and went with no coherence, as if nobody wanted to take responsibility for the table. Then came the pièce de résistance: a server who hovered like an anxious shadow, staring intently, clicking his pen like a nervous tic, and most astonishingly, insisting on physical contact, placing his hand on my shoulder until I was forced to tell him to stop. Hospitality this is not; it is harassment dressed in an apron. What we are left with is a restaurant that postures as refined while behaving like an amateur. One dish shone, yes, but brilliance surrounded by chaos is not brilliance at all. Dining here is an exercise in tolerance, for inflated prices, uneven cooking, and service that borders on the absurd.

It has won the Best Bar award in the province of Cadiz and boasts a panoramic terrace with stunning hill views. The new location on Calle Corredera is gaining popularity due to its unique dishes and amazing views.
Our experience here has been amazing. Each one of the tapas we ordered was fresh and tasty. Patatas bravas, Iberian pork and berenjenas con miel (fried eggplant with honey) were the main highlights. Friendly service, it could have been quicker but overall was ok, and good price-quality ratio. I’d love to visit again soon!

Really good place to have Moroccan style tapas in vejer. The food was pretty nice and not expensive. The server treat us great and you could see he was attending everybody quite well. Downside were the toilets, you would expect them to have them cleaner in such a place. For the rest we would definitely go back and recommend it.

They are considered symbols of the town and offer a genuine connection to traditional history. Visitors can even arrange burro rides and enjoy a popular playground for kids nearby. While some of the mills may be closed at times, one has been opened for visits, adding to the charm of this picturesque village.

Fundación NMAC is a must-visit for anyone in the area, offering a beautifully laid out complex with art installations that provide an "aha" experience. The site features contemporary landscape art set in a stunning pine forest, including the notable piece "Second Wind," which addresses urban heat wave challenges. Visitors can also encounter unique surprises such as artistic signs and military-style reception tents.
A Hidden Gem: Fundación NMAC Our visit to Fundación NMAC was an unforgettable experience. The outdoor gallery is stunning, featuring unique installations that beautifully blend art and nature. Each piece invites you to explore its meaning while appreciating the serene surroundings. The visit takes approximately 1.5 hours, which is just the right amount of time to enjoy the artworks and the peaceful atmosphere without feeling rushed. We highly recommend Fundación NMAC to anyone who loves contemporary art, outdoor spaces, or simply wants to discover something extraordinary. It’s well worth the visit, and we’re already looking forward to going back!

A hidden gem indeed. A fun way to spend a few hours roaming around the forest, admiring contemporary art pieces. Thoroughly enjoyable and well worth the price of 10 euros. Suitable for all ages. A QR code provides a map for phones or you can buy a psychical map for 50 cents. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Unique, wonderful, great experience, inexpensive, interesting are just some of the ways of describing the wonderful place. My best personal description is simply "Art in the pines ". Just south of Vejer de la Frontera on the N340 in the direction of Tarifa is the most amazing art installation imaginable. It consists of Modern Art exhibits mostly outdoors in the pine forests. It takes about two hours to complete and is really worth the visit. Very different and while not all of the exhibits will please everybody there is definitely some superb items. The NMAC Foundation is a unique non-profit institution in Southern Spain. Contemporary art in perfect harmony with nature The NMAC Foundation invites international artists to create site-specific commissions that tune in with the landscape analysing the social, historic, geographical and cultural context of NMAC's location.

If you are a seafood lover, this is a must visit. Set amongst salt flat/mines, with a mud bath, salt spar as part of the set up. Their salt baked cod is superb, all portioned at your table. The sole and cod were bought to the table, before cooking, so we could decide on size. Great service. Both mains came with the same sides of new potatoes and a mixed pepper salad. You might want to order a different side dish if having more than one main course. Great setting. Highly recommended. I've attached a photo of our bill for 4 to give you an idea of cost. Would go back, only really scratched the surface of the menu!

Excellent place with lots of great sandwiches! Thanks to our Tour Director Luis Nogueira for ordering ahead to get these delicious pork loin sandwiches to go for our ferry trip to Morocco. A nice upmarket venta. Higher prices than some, good quality food. Service was good at first and then they disappeared as it got busier. We spent €107 for two people and our server didn't get the chance to farewell us. We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary with no special treatment.

I would gladly die for their Iberia 100%! It's not easy to find a good restaurant open every day and night around here, but please add Venta Pinto to your list. It's more than worth a visit, and I highly recommend their dinner menu. The Tuna Tartar and Special Seafood Paella are exceptional. All the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Even though they may not be fluent in English, they go out of their way to provide the best service. I was so impressed with their food that I even ordered Iberian Ham to take back to Thailand, which is a testament to how much I love it. One thing to note is that if you're not a fan of salty food, be sure to let them know. Spanish cuisine can be a bit salty for people from Asia like us. Overall, Venta Pinto is a gem, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience.

We were greeted by a pleasant waiter, an elderly gentleman named Pedro. We asked for a recommendation and he just asked if we prefere meat or fish. We've chosen a fish and he immediately suggested tuna tartare as the first dish and the local fish (he brought to show us) as the main dish. As a starter (amouse-bouche) he brought us a tuna salad with onions, tomatoes and peppers. Each dish was amazing, delicious and fresh. Really one of the most enjoyable culinary experiences. We can only recommend. Together with drinks (water and beer) we paid about 100 Euro, which is not cheap, but it is definitely worth such a pleasure.

Great place, looks nice, typical Spanish, great food. It can be very busy at certain times, so waiting longer. But that's a good sign.

This spot is a gem! Patrons are young and old alike. The food is just good traditional Andalucian cooking. The wine and spirits offerings also reflect Andalucian culture. The service couldn't be better and the prices are mostly moderate. You can do 3 courses with wine, aperitif and coffee for between 40 and 50 euros.

Day 3

Center of town
For day 3, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Torre del Puerco, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Pl. de España. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Torre del Puerco is a historic landmark located near the beautiful beaches of Conil de la Frontera. The area offers a rich history, including the British Navy's victory over the French, marking the start of Spain's liberation. The tower itself provides stunning views of the expansive beach and is surrounded by natural beauty, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks. Visitors can enjoy a 12km round trip walk to Roche lighthouse with breathtaking coastal views.

Viña y Mar Sherry·Bar·Restaurante in Vejer is a culinary gem offering amazing food and an exceptional dining experience. The chef's creations are truly sensational, with delicious and elegantly prepared dishes that leave a lingering aftertaste. The wine selection complements the whole experience, making it a complete delight. The tapas are not your usual fare; each plate is well thought out and offers a special taste.
Incredible, fine food. The tapas here are really great. They are not the usual dishes, as each plate is well thought through and has a special taste to it. The Sardina tapas was the best sardines I had in a while. Desert was delicious. Will definitely go back. Very fair in terms of price.

Vina y Mar is a jewel in Vejer, absolutely amazing food second to none. The taste sensations that the chef delivered was truly sensational. The dishes were delicious and elegantly prepared, and the after taste was so lingering that I never wanted it to go. The wine choice that was offered by the owner completely made the whole experience, a complete delight.

One of the best restaurants in vejer! I tried some restaurants here (Garimba sur, Corredera ,..) but Vina Y Mar has some the best food. Compliments to the chef
Anna Z — Google review
The ceviche (or cebiche) was the highlight here - a true explosion of taste; elegantly balancing lemony and spicy notes while keeping the freshness of the shrimps and avocado.
Evgeny S — Google review
Below average. We read the good reviews and were excited to try the food. The food was good but over priced for the size of the portions, food 4*, service was horrendous though. Waitress rolled her eyes at us whilst ordering. Waiter slammed down the mains do hard a drink fell. Advertised starters came with the main course, With so many options, do yourself a favour and go somewhere where the waiting staff want you at their restaurant and the price of food reflects what is served.
Rebecca S — Google review
Very bad service. We asked for a sherry and asked for the price, the waiter said 'it's 4 euros' so we ordered it. When we got the bill, it said 7 euros. When we asked the waiter why it says 7 euro instead of 4, he just said 'oh yeah, that's the actual price. Sorry'
C V — Google review
Reading the good reviews, our expectations were accordingly. However, the dishes are overprized and somewhat small... The waiter, after all was nice recommending good sherrys

Nice and interesting church in Véjer de la Frontera. It is probably very late gothic with archs which are only slightly ojival. They are near semi-circular. The interior contains wonderful polychromatic wooden statues which are taken to the streets during the Easter Holy Days. Worth the visit.

Guest house
Casa Shelly Hospedería is a charming guesthouse located in the center of Vejer's old town. The property features 7 individually decorated rooms, each offering comfort and tranquility. Created by Swedish owner Chris and Spanish owner Javier, this stylish accommodation provides a relaxed lounge, a patio, and a well-designed kitchen with laid-on snacks and coffee. Guests can enjoy the serene outdoor patio or take a short walk to Plaza de España for some quiet time.
We recently stayed in this beautiful house and highly recommend a visit. The renovation is beautifully done with comfort and style, while keeping original characteristics of the building and area. The bed is very comfortable and the room is decorated to perfection. The full kitchen for guests with fruit, muffins, coffee and tea was a nice surprise. Everything in the village is within walking distance and parking is available if you want to wander off to other areas for the day. Chris is very welcoming and responsive to any questions. He also gave us perfect directions to the check-in point which was appreciated due to the narrow one-way streets! We will come again if we are in the area. Thank you, Chris, for a wonderful, relaxing stay!!

Our stay at Casa Shelly was one of the best experiences we’ve had in Andalusia! From the pre-stay correspondence and information to the warm welcome, the absolutely stunning interior design and amazing hospitality… everything was simply perfect. While we love children (we have two of our own), it’s also very relaxing to have a quiet adult place and I would recommend Casa Shelly if you’re looking for a retreat.

Super charming place! The attention to all the details is impressive, and you will stay in a gorgeous and quiet house very close to a lot of restaurants and touristic attractions. There’s no breakfast here, but at the check in Chris or Javier will show you a map of the city with places with good options for you to get one. There’s also a small kitchen where you can grab some snacks, muffins, coffee, and tea, and a lovely courtyard in the back where you can sit and enjoy the silence while reading a book or drinking something.

A magnificent place in all senses, the real meaning of an extraordinary customer experience nowadays. In French is used the little translatable word "Trouvaille": fortuitous and happy meeting. Sophistication, tranquility, intimacy, high degree of hygiene (always super important) coupled with a site of power as is Vejer and Cadiz. I felt at home. In peace and harmony. I will repeat with my family for sure. Thank you Christian & team

I was lucky enough to be one of the very first guests to stay in this gorgeous little hotel in Vejer and I absolutely loved it. My husband and I had been working non stop and desperately needed a romantic get away and Casa Shelly delivered. Whilst retaining the origins of Andalucia and Vejer the hotel embraces modern design in a vibrant and refreshing style. The beds were sooooo comfortable that we slept 10 hours straight, unheard of for us. Everywhere you look you can feel the love and passion the owners have put into every detail, every tile, every cushion of the hotel and our romantic getaway will be repeated at Casa Shelly again and again.

Café Bar • Peneque is a charming spot located in a nice area with views of Plaza España. The place is known for its friendly service and delicious small plates at reasonable prices. While it doesn't serve full meals, it offers crisps and snacks to accompany your drinks. The proprietor, Antonio, is accommodating and the coffee served here is excellent. It's a popular spot, so there might be a wait for a table, but the quality of food makes it worth it.

Bad experience from the beginning with a rude waiter who didn’t really care whether we were there spending our money or not. Got worse when we complained that the bread was green with mould. He subsequently brought out another loaf of sliced bread to show us that it wasn’t mouldy and telling us that we were wrong. The food we did eat before we left was very average. Clearly trading on the touristy location in the popular square but a serious step below average of other places in Vejer. Don’t bother coming here!!

(Translated by Google) Visiting Café-Bar Peneque was one of those experiences that will be etched in your memory for the quality of its cuisine and the honesty conveyed by each dish. The star of the evening was, without a doubt, the tuna with onions. A seemingly simple preparation, but one that requires technique and respect for the product to shine as it did. The tuna, cooked to perfection, retained all its juiciness, and the onion—sautéed patiently and unhurriedly—provided sweetness and depth, blending with the fish without stealing its spotlight. A dish with a balanced, savory flavor, proving that well-made traditional cuisine never goes out of style. Next came the pork cheek, and with it, amazement. Rarely do you taste such tender meat, so delicately cooked, that it literally melted in your mouth. The rich, enveloping sauce spoke of hours of slow cooking and a know-how that can only be achieved with skill and love. A dish that not only nourishes, but also comforts and excites. The atmosphere at Peneque is perfect: warm, welcoming, and unpretentious, where you feel welcomed and cared for. The service was cordial and attentive, without being rushed, and everything was at the pace required for a real dinner: leisurely, without artifice, and focused on the essentials: eating well and enjoying yourself.

I stumbled upon this charming gem while exploring the narrow streets of Vejer. La Ventana Taberna offers exceptional tapas, surpassing any I have tasted in Spain thus far. La Ventana Taberna - A Hidden Gem in Vejer de la Frontera From the moment we stepped into La Ventana Taberna, we knew we were in for something special. We hadn't made a reservation, but they welcomed us with open arms, even offering us a table outside on a chilly evening. Our dog was with us, and without us asking, they brought her a bowl of water – a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for an unforgettable experience. The food was nothing short of incredible. Every dish was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with love. As we enjoyed our meal, the staff remained attentive without being intrusive. When a table inside became available, they graciously moved us, offering us the most romantic spot in the house: a small, private room off to the side with breathtaking views of the entire city, all bathed in the glow of a full moon. It felt like something out of a dream. The owner personally checked in on us throughout the evening, showing a level of care that made us feel like VIPs. To top off an already perfect meal, they treated us to a glass of orange wine with our dessert, a lovely and unexpected touch. By the end of the night, we would have happily paid triple the amount for this experience and left equally content. It's not just the fantastic food, but the warmth and generosity of the staff, the intimate ambiance, and the attention to detail that make La Ventana Taberna stand out. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this place is a must-visit. It’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like you've discovered a hidden treasure – a perfect combination of great food, great service, and an unforgettable atmosphere. We'll definitely be back. 10/10 – Can’t recommend it enough!

La Tetería del Califa is a magical place that resembles something out of the movie Aladdin. It's a complex that includes a hamman, restaurant, hotel, and tea shop created by restoring and renovating different old houses to adapt them for various uses. One of the best in Vejer, very good Moroccan and fusion food including a barbecue offering. I recommend the meze and the monkfish and prawn skewer. (Tagines less so.) Excellent service. If you have a choice go for a table in the courtyard but they are in high demand (go early). Beware that most entrances to the restaurant entail lots of steps so accessibility can be tricky. Casa del Mayorazgo is a well-maintained private house in Vejer, featuring an Andalusian patio adorned with beautifully kept potted plants. Visitors can explore the three patios before reaching the tower, where they can enjoy a stunning view of Plaza de Espana. The house is maintained by local residents and Mr. Manuel, who dedicates his time to preserving the beauty of the patios for visitors to appreciate.

The main attraction of this house is its Andalusian patio, surrounded by flowers in perfect condition. It is a residential area, so it is recommended to be quiet and respectful when visiting. After exploring all the sights in Vejer Old Town, it's time to visit the renowned windmills of Vejer de la Frontera. Initially used for grinding wheat, these structures now serve as an integral part of the town's landscape and are essential in preserving its rich historical heritage. Constructed following Carthaginian architectural principles, they offer a glimpse into the past while blending harmoniously with their surroundings.

Iglesia de la Merced is a 17th-century church located in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. Although parts of the church were destroyed by an earthquake in the late 18th century and it remained abandoned for over a century, it still stands as a remarkable attraction. While its interior may be inaccessible to visitors, the exterior features a carved image of a woman wearing traditional Vejerianas attire, known as the blanket.

Nestled in the charming town of Vejer de la Frontera, La Tarantella is a hidden gem that offers an authentic Italian dining experience. This delightful restaurant beautifully blends rustic charm with a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to savor delicious pizzas in great company.
We love the fast service and the blankets at the outdoor tables were a nice touch!
Abigail G — Google review
We had a good dinner. The waiter was nice and the food was good value for money. But there were a couple of details that need to be improved: the waiter said they had “just opened today”, we assume for the season since there’s enough reviews for the place. But he used this excuse for several missing things: the sparkling water was served without lemon, they had no coffee and you couldn’t pay with card (only cash). Also, be careful as they don’t have any indoor area, it’s all outside (terrace) so in March/April this can be cold. They also didn’t have any blankets, mentioned in others reviews but absent with these new owners.
Anand E — Google review
The food is okay, nothing amazing but not bad either. I didn't like the fact the staff take their time for everything, two tables around us spend 25 min waiting for their dessert. We didn't order one of course. They are friendly though
Laura G — Google review
Not impressed by the salty and a bit tasteless food but only the view was amazing. We don’t recommend this restaurant. We ordered three different dishes. The first was the best; tomatoes with burrata. But although the pizza had a thin nice bottom the four cheeses in top were nearly tasteless. And the ravioli was so salt that it causes abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.
Johan S — Google review
I loved this place. The staff were super helpful and welcoming. The food was excellent and what I liked the most is that it wasn’t overly salty or greasy, it reminded me of home made food. They recommended us wine that we liked a lot with our food.

Lovely tapas bar on the beautiful square in Vajer de la Frontera. Food was really excellent, as was the service. Prices were correct for the location and quality of food and service. Recommended.

Always delicious! I’ve been coming to this restaurant for well over 10 years and it’s always such a delight. The service is also so so friendly which adds to the enjoyable experience and the setting is unbeatable. Particularly recommend the leeks dish and all of the tunas! Good wine too. I always suggest this place to friends. Thank you!

Silvio and Claudia have created the most elaborate and enchanting dining experience directly from Italy to Vejer! Our family HIGHLY recommends requesting Silvio’s Chef’s Selection menu. He turns the meal into a culinary experience that is truly worthy of Michelin Stars! They provide the ultimate Italian hospitality combined with the duende of Andalucía and it just sings beautifully. It’s absolutely a dinner worth traveling for! If you have a passion for authentic Italian food, Italian wines and a Spanish sense of community, you will definitely appreciate your visit to Piccolina. ¡Os queremos familia!

We had only breakfast at this place, and both times we visited it, it was great. The portions are very big, so maybe go with a half portion if you're not a heavy eater in the morning. The bread was very fresh and nicely toasted and we also were lucky with croissant as it was freashly baked and there is nothing better than a fresh croissant:) Recommend.

Nestled in the heart of Plaza de España, Restaurante Trafalgar is a culinary gem that beautifully marries traditional Spanish cuisine with modern flair. This avant-garde eatery, owned by passionate motorcycling enthusiast Pedro, showcases local recipes crafted from fresh ingredients. Diners rave about their exquisite Rabo de Toro and the delightful Revuelto de Morcilla, making it a must-visit for food lovers.
Tapas were very delicious. There was a lot of volume and a reasonable price. The waitress was very sweet and a glass of wine was very generous. It's the place I want to go again.

Just went for a quick breakfast so I cannot give my opinion on the food. We had a “manteca colora” toast and a cafe con leche, both very good though. Location is right on Plaza de España, it doesn’t get more centric than that.
MJ B — Google review
We chose this spot as it was the only table available in the square. We were looking for a coffee & quick bite to eat for brunch. Coffee was deeply average and while the orange juice was nice it wasn’t freshly squeezed. Food left a lot to be desired. The cold soup was straight out of a carton. Very underwhelming. Moreover the prawn / guacamole puff pastry was not a winning combination. Tuna salad - total avoid! Overcooked tuna and extremely oily. The tomatoes however were good.
Oliver D — Google review
Great location in front of the Plaza España. Good tasty and different menu options. For us the best one was Arroz de Rabo de Toro
Luis V — Google review
Staff rude and lazy. It was an horrible experience with these guys. We were passing through…we found an empty table and we sat asking for icecream. They said they have a waiting list….even no other people were around…and even after 10 minutes, nobody was around to ask for this table. Shame on you, people. Dont forget you are living out of our money.
