Selfoss in 4 days

If you only have 4 days to spend in Selfoss, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Selfoss is a convenient base for exploring Iceland’s South Coast, with easy access to sights like the Golden Circle, black-sand beaches, and major waterfalls. The town sits along the Ölfusá river and offers supermarkets, services, and a range of accommodations that make road trips straightforward. Nearby geothermal areas, greenhouses, and horse farms give a glimpse of everyday Icelandic life beyond the main tourist hubs. It’s a practical, low-key alternative to staying in Reykjavík while touring the region.
With favorites like Krisp Restaurant, Byrja, and Guesthouse Garun Heidmork, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Samúelsson Matbar and Erbil Kebab so you can get the best taste of Selfoss while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Bodies of Water
Kerid Crater, located approximately 15.5km north of Selfoss on Rte 35, is a volcanic crater that formed around 6,500 years ago from an explosion. The crater is characterized by its vibrant red and sienna earth and green lake. It's possible to walk around the entire rim within 10-20 minutes and descend down to the lake in the center. Bjork once performed a concert on a floating raft at this location.
Very cool, the red rock contrasting with the green water was truly a sight to see. Took us less than 1hr total and due to the free parking and low cost entry (600isk) it was definitely worth the stop.
Master G — Google review
One of our highlights during our 2 day golden circle itinerary. You can do a walk around the crater's circumference and then walk down the steps to the lake itself. The slopes can be quite slippery, definitely wear proper footwear and walk carefully! We spent about an hour there near sunset.
Alfred Y — Google review
This is a fantastic place for a short stop, he is everything you should know: 1. The cost for parking is about 4USD. Not bad for the hour you will spend there. 2. There are two trails. One goes around the rim of the crater, and the other takes you inside for a walk around the water. 3. You can't swim, you can't stand on the ice. 4. No drones, even though I saw people ignore this. 5. It's a pretty cool spot. Not as grand as many other places you can go to but it's a really easy destination to check off your list of things to see. Worth going at least once. Check out my photos to get a sense of the space.
Derek R — Google review
A beautiful volcanic crater with a vivid blue-green lake at the bottom — the colours are incredible, especially against the red volcanic rock. It’s an easy stop right off the road and worth the small entrance fee. You can walk around the rim for great views and then head down the path to the water’s edge for a different perspective. It’s not a big site, so you don’t need a lot of time here, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Damian K — Google review
This is a must visit site, not far off the well trodden tourist route. I would suggest that you walk the circumference of the caldera to get views from the top and then descend to the pond at the bottom via the steps. There is a nice bench where you could rest and enjoy the setting.
Sam K — Google review
Kerid Crater is a volcanic crater lake, not one formed by a meteorite impact. It’s only a short walk from the parking lot, and since the crater isn’t very large, it’s easy to explore quickly. Inside the crater lies a beautiful blue lake, and you can descend to it via a staircase. However, on the day I visited, it was so windy that I could barely stand, so I decided not to go down. On a clear day, though, descending the stairs and looking up from the bottom would no doubt offer a stunning view. Also, since some parts of the path are rocky and uneven, I highly recommend wearing hiking shoes rather than sneakers.
HiDe86 — Google review
Worth a look if you've seen nothing like it before. You can hike the upper or lower ring. Make sure you have good shoes as the path is very uneven and slippery.
W Q — Google review
This crater was very beautiful and unique. The parking lot is somewhat small and it’s important to buy tickets when you get there to enter. You can hike around the crater and hike down to the bottom. I would say it’s a medium difficulty rating hike as there is a lot of stairs.

Fast food restaurant
Pylsuvagninn, established in 1984, is a popular fast food spot offering fresh and delicious meals. Located by the bridge, it's a great place to grab a hot dog with traditional toppings called "ein með öllu." The menu also includes hamburgers, chicken burgers, pita, and more. With options for takeout, outdoor seating, and even a drive-thru, this spot provides convenience along with its tasty offerings.
WHOA. Highly recommended! This place lives up to its buzz. I had the deep fried hot dog with Doritos, cheese sauce and garlic sauce and it hit the spot! I am so happy to eat this for breakfast at 940a, perfect before heading out for the road. Even better, there was a huge rainbow after I finished eating to top it off. No lines on a Thursday morning, I enjoyed quick and friendly service and a clean counter inside to eat on. Picnic tables available outside. I'll be back to try more!
Connie K — Google review
This was my second visit to this wonderful hot dog stand and it truly doesn't disappoint!! Got the hot dog with cheese and french fries (in the bun) and it was delicious! If you are looking for the classic hot dog experience - don't go to downtown Reykjavik - you go to Selfoss and Pylsuvagninn! UPDATE: So I'm back again to my favorite Icelandic Hot Dog stand. I forgot to mention in my previous review that you MUST get the Deep Fried Hotdog with Fries. This is the only place in the whole of Iceland where you can get one. Don't be a wuss. Get it. You will love it and then dream about getting another one when you come back to visit. Delicious!!!
Chase N — Google review
Stopped in here during a recent vacation in Iceland. "Pylsuvagninn" basically means "hot dog car" in Icelandic; apparently it was originally a cart when it started in the 1980s, and upgraded over time to a small building. The logo is a little weird/silly but don't let that stop you from trying them out. I tried the Dorito's hot dog - a deep fried hot dog with garlic sauce, crumbled doritos, and fried cheese. Was it healthy? Heavens no! Was it delicious? Absolutely. My wife had the fish and chips which was also good.

Fun and Tasty Stop in Selfoss! Pylsuvagninn in Selfoss is such a fun place to visit when you’re traveling around Iceland. It’s the perfect stop whether you want to grab a quick bite at the drive-thru or sit outside and enjoy your food. The hot dogs here are great — classic Icelandic style — but if you want to try something extra special, I highly recommend the deep-fried hot dog with French fries. It’s absolutely worth it! A great little spot for a casual and delicious stopover in Selfoss. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Kristinn G — Google review
So grateful for a vegan hot dog! It was great and reasonably priced, especially for Iceland standards. Not sure if they use a brand or make their own, but perfect way to stop in town for something quick.
Michelle S — Google review
Věry good and tasty food not too expensive for Iceland. I have to recomend to try the hot dog. Also is better to visit it at morning it is realy busy place.

My husband loves this place! He adores hot dogs and said this is one of the best in Iceland. Quick, friendly service with great quality food!

Icelandic hot-dog is indeed much better than American style. Please note that "paprika" = peppers (red, green, bell peppers - loads). We really didn't expect that haha

The Old Dairy Food Hall, also known as Mjólkurbúið Mathöll, is a must-visit destination in Selfoss Centre, offering a diverse culinary experience. With over 20 restaurants, cafes, and bars to choose from, visitors can explore Icelandic cuisine and more at this vibrant food hall. One of the highlights is Samulesson Matbar, a bistro-style eatery that prides itself on first-class ingredients and an excellent selection of wines.
This was honestly a highlight in our trip, great food at affordable prices (for iceland) in a cozy atmosphere and it really feels homey. The concept is one building, multiple restaurants with shared seating, that can be a downside for some as instead of private tables they mostly have huge long tables and you sit next to strangers but i found it endearing. We had food from the Thai place the number 4(beef, rice in oyster sauce) and number 7(chicken noodles with veg and egg) . I hope i didn’t get the numbers wrong. Greatly recommend!!!!!
Kolcho — Google review
Ok. Perhaps slightly better than standard food court food but not by much. Adequate seating inside and outside. Free water if they replenish the glasses. Ok variety of options for everyone to find something they like, but slow and unresponsive service
TravelR — Google review
Great variety of food options available, plenty of seating, restrooms in the basement and parking lot nearby. We could see it was a hit with the locals for sure. There is also some outdoor space to hang out or dine.

This is a reconstruction of an old 20th-century dairy that is used as a modern food hall in Selfoss. There are 8 restaurants and 2 bars and nicely decorated floors and seating. We stopped by recently and had pretty good burgers at the Rosti Burger & Beer joint at the Old Dairy Food Hall. Would be interested to try other eateries here as well if we find ourselves in Selfoss again.
Brad — Google review
Food hall like we haven’t seen anywhere else in Iceland. Great to have do many food options under one roof, with plenty of space to sit inside or outdoors at the terrace. We ate taco’s at Takko, and a skyr bowl at Skyrland for dessert - all equally delicious.
Karin O — Google review
Food court with a good variety of food stalls. Not too crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Music not too loud.
Albert W — Google review
A modern spot of hip and tastiness. Food choices and flavors as good as we’d expect in Brooklyn. Italian, Latin fusion, Asian, burgers, etc. - and a bar with good beer and wine. Great tacos, great Pad Thai. Order and seat yourself, wait for the buzzer to alert when food is ready. Comfortable chairs and big urban tables. Fun facility and a yogurt museum in the basement. Food comparable with an urban capital right in the middle of Selfoss. Vegetarian options.
Justin R — Google review
Lots of delicious restaurants in one place! The Selfoss Alfredo pasta from Romano (an Italian restaurant ) was the best Alfredo we had in Iceland. The Manin’s Chicken Panaga & Deep-fried shrimps were perfect! So, it's a great food hall in Selfoss, where you can choose different cuisines!

Nestled in the charming town of Selfoss, Yrja barnavöruverslun is a delightful children's store that offers an enchanting shopping experience. Despite its cozy size, the shop is beautifully organized and brimming with high-quality children's clothing and toys. Shoppers rave about the exceptional service provided by the friendly staff, who are always ready to offer expert advice.
There are many stores that sell children's clothes and toys in Reykjavik, but I always end up ordering online from Yrja barnavöruverslun because of their amazing service. Not only are the products of great quality, but the package always arrives with an adorable handwritten note and a piece of candy. I've bought so many things for my kid and gifts for nephews and nieces from them. Thank you for a lovely shopping experience, as always.

Very nice historic restaurant that is in the first house in Selfoss. There are traditional Icelandic dishes as well as some good vegan options. It is a good place if you are celebrating or looking for a fancy dinner restaurant.

My favorite place in Selfoss! This is my second visit because of the great experience I had last time. We came for Saturday lunch, but they were only serving the brunch menu, which had limited options. However, the food was absolutely delicious. The combination of steak, eggs, sauces, and bread was well-balanced and perfectly cooked. The chips were also very tasty. Although the service was just okay, the food alone makes it worth a visit.

A stunning meal in a cozy comfortable historic building with a great view of Selfoss. The lobster soup was creamy but light and I adored the serving presentation. The grilled whale cannot be skipped, it was the culinary highlight of my LIFE. I was hesitant because you know, whales are so cool, but my god it was the best thing I've ever eaten. So tender, flavorful, and unique. The salmon and cod dishes were ingeniously curated. We ate every bite. The rhubarb dessert made me want to lick the plate. Local produce was showcased so well. Even the bread and cocktails were out of this world. If you're passing through Selfoss, I can't recommend Tryggvaskáli enough.

Wow, wow, wow – absolutely amazing! I’m finishing my trip in Iceland, and after visiting so many restaurants, I can honestly say this is by far the best one I’ve been to! ❤️ The atmosphere is unique, set in a beautiful house that looks stunning inside and out. The food, the vibes, and the whole experience were simply unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Lovely small town restaurant providing delicious big town sophistication. The ambience is pleasant and family like - the restaurant feels like a large home with a country decor. We had a delightful lunch with whale meat appetizers - which were tender in a tasty sauce. Lunch featured a fried crispy chicken salad, tasty hamburger and beef tenderloin. The chicken pieces were nicely cooked and very crispy. Dessert had fermented blue berries with a tasty custard. The coconut and pineapple cake was well done, even a bit crunchy. Overall a delicious meal. Our guests were enchanted with the chicken salad’s dressing which admittedly was quite tasty as was the grilled sweet corn which fit the dish very well. Our waiter was pilot, patient and professional. Pro-tip - our food did take a while to prepare.

5-Star Experience! Summary: We had a Beef Toast, a Pancake with Strawberries, a capuccino and a hot chocolate. Everything was delicious. We spent 67 USD with the 10% tip. The Beef Toast was incredible: perfect presentation, intense flavor, ideal seasoning, and hot temperature. The Strawberry Pancake was also delicious, juicy, and well-presented. It comes with a chocolate ganache that's is also amazing. Additionally, the hot chocolate and cappuccino were very tasty. The service was attentive and efficient. We spent around $67 with a 10% tip. Well worth it! Highly recommended! 5 stars!"

Strokkur Geyser is a popular geothermal attraction located in the Geysir area of Iceland. While the old Geysir is inactive, Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes, shooting water up to 15-20 meters high. The surrounding area also features other geysers and hot springs, creating an otherworldly landscape for visitors to explore.
Nice hot springs and geyser. It shoots every 5-8 minutes and is short. Worth the wait to get it on camera as I missed it the first time. Great view from the top of the mountain. Free to see. Does cost to park. Also has a nice give shop and snack bar.

Absolutely amazing place! The geysers erupt regularly and it’s truly fascinating to watch the power of nature so close. The steam, the sound, and the sudden burst of hot water create an unforgettable experience. The area is well organized with clear paths and good viewing spots, and it’s easy to take great photos. A must-see stop on any trip to Iceland!
Can Z — Google review
The Strkkur Geyser is certainly something to see if you've never seen see anything like this before. I did feel a little bit underwhelmed, but that's just me. It is amazing how the water heats up and bubbles away. The Geysir Centre across the road has toilets, food, drink and the standard souvenir shop. They have cold weather clothing for sale, but be prepared for the high price! Worth the trip and recommend a visit, but don't worry about FOMO if you don't.
W Q — Google review
This was our very first time seeing a geyser in action—and it was absolutely amazing. The anticipation alone is worth the visit: the water begins to bubble and swell for a few minutes, building up this quiet tension… and then the showstopper erupts with a burst of power that’s raw, dramatic, and unforgettable. We were completely mesmerized and ended up staying long enough to watch it erupt three or four times. Each time felt just as exciting as the first. Beyond the main geyser, the area is dotted with smaller steaming pools and bubbling hot spots that look almost otherworldly. A heads-up: the sulfur smell is strong—very “rotten eggs.” For a moment I genuinely thought I was the one smelling, but it’s just the geothermal activity. You get used to it quickly. It does get a bit crowded so if you want the perfect shot, have patience. There is no entrance fee. Getting there is easy. You can drive straight to the paid online parking right across from the geyser area, which is extremely convenient. There’s also a large store (expensive)beside the parking lot where you can grab warm clothing, souvenirs, or a quick snack before or after exploring. An unforgettable stop—don’t rush it, stay for multiple eruptions!
VB — Google review
Strokkur Geyser was absolutely beautiful! I visited in January, so it was quite cold, but there are nearby buildings where you can warm up for a bit between eruptions. Such a stunning natural wonder — I’m really glad I went!
Savanah E — Google review
Several geysers are scattered throughout this area, but the largest and most active one is Strokkur, which erupts every seven to ten minutes. After the first eruption, it often erupts again about 15 to 20 seconds later, so if you stay and wait, you can witness a second burst. Around the geyser, tourists stand ready with their cameras to capture the perfect moment, but it’s best not to wait on the downwind side. In strong winds, there’s a chance that the hot water from the eruption could be blown toward you.
HiDe86 — Google review
The undeniable star of the Haukadalur geothermal area, and witnessing it erupt feels almost unreal no matter how many times you’ve seen it on video. The geyser erupts every few minutes, often shooting a column of boiling water impressively high into the air, sometimes more than once in quick succession. The anticipation and the sudden burst make it a fun experience for both casual visitors and photographers. It’s an easy, flat walk from the main paths, and you can get fairly close as long as you respect the barriers. The ground around the geyser is extremely hot and fragile, so staying on marked trails is important for your safety and for preserving the area. Steam and sulfur smells are part of the experience, and depending on the wind, you might catch some spray, so keep your camera protected and maybe stand slightly off to the side if you want the best view without getting misted. Crowds gather quickly, especially right before an eruption, so arriving early in the morning or later in the evening makes it much more enjoyable. Once you’re there, give yourself time to watch several eruptions; each one is different and sometimes the second or third burst is the most dramatic. The combination of geothermal colors, the bubbling pool before eruption, and the wild Icelandic backdrop makes this one of the most memorable stops on the Golden Circle.
R — Google review
Strokkur is one of the geysers at Geyser on the main route of the golden circle. Parking here is at th visitors e center but it's such a hassle finding a spot with so many people always there. The walk to Strokkur is about 10 minutes total, and you pass by some other cool geothermal features. The geyser goes off every 3-5 minutes so you basically can't miss it. Really cool place to stop for a few to stretch and see something fun.

We had a wonderful time here ! Service and food were both so wonderful. The fish and chips, Icelandic cheese, truffle fries, and lamb soup were honestly unbeatable. The fish and chips in particular had the perfect crisp and was so fresh. We were given a lava cake on the house and WOW. The salted Carmel is a beautiful touch. We were so thankful for this experience on our journey through Iceland.

The BEST of the best! This is in the food hall. They have separated vegan menu. I gotta said it’s the best vegan food in Iceland. I love their mushroom soup so much to the point that I had it for dinner, the next day for lunch and then after golden circle I came back for dinner, just to have their mushroom soup. The vegan steak sandwich is off the chart too. Also their fries are made by order. It’s fresh, it’s hot, it’s crispy, it’s perfect! Oh did I also mention it’s truffle fries?! The best of this place is their staff. 10 out of 10. Everyone was so kind and generous to us. The last dinner I came in last minute because I was waiting outside for northern lights. They could’ve not served the food but the girl who worked at the front and the chef agreed to give me mushroom soup. I cannot thank them enough. Hands down. Highly highly recommend it! It’s a must try!

The restaurant is in a Food Hall so I cant pin it on them for the tables being so low that I couldn't get my leggs under them. The fish'n chips was good, the batter needed a bit more seasoning but it was crispy and the fish was fresh. The tartar/aoli was good, the coleslaw was really sour, it left a blister in my mouth. The fries were your normal truffle flavored fries. The mushroom soup was ok, but the choice of bread they served with it could be better then three chared small slices.

This is one of the places in the Selfoss food hall, it’s sort of like a food court at a mall. We were hesitant to eat at a food court style place but we were very quickly persuaded otherwise. We ended up eating at this food hall almost every night because it was that good! This specific counter offered a delicious lamb soup that my husband loved!
Olya T — Google review
It was good food, but portions were small. 3500kr for lamb stew and it was maybe half a liter. The bread served alongside it was very small indeed, lasting about 4 bites dipped into the soup. It's maybe the going rate for this dish, but I felt at least the bread could have been a heartier portion in order to round out the entree and make it more filling.

Great place! The staff at Erbil Kebab speak English, the service is fast, and the lamb rice plate is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend if you’re in Selfoss and craving good shawarma or rice plates

The best shawarma I've had in a long time. And the best part is they are open until late hours. I'd highly recommend the Lake Shawarma

Nice kebab joint in the town of Selfoss. Chicken dishes are halal, as confirmed by the manager. Various options [wraps, plates [either with rice, bread or fries]. Good portions. Cosy place. Just happened that there was EPL match and the manager switched the tv channels [3 screens] for the live viewing!

Roadside snack bar located right off the main road. The service is friendly and fast. The pizza has plenty of toppings, and the iceberg lettuce on the kebab pizza is an interesting ingredient. The football broadcast positively rounds off the whole experience. A good snack bar to quickly grab a satisfying and filling meal.

The BEST shawarma we’ve ever had! We were in Iceland for 8 days and this food was so good we came twice. The mixed special shawarma has such good flavor and the wraps are huge (easily can make into 2 meals or split between 2 people). They were very friendly as well!

Ordered online when we walked in we were greeted with a friendly smile and a fabulous smell waited about 5-10 mins then he walked out carrying 2 huge shawarmas in hand asked if we needed anything else then told us have a good night and thank you ! Once we got back to our air BNB we unwrapped them and knew immediately they were gonna be good and they did not disappoint definitely get the lamb and chicken and add fries they were big enough to feed 2! 5 out of 5 would definitely recommend!

Breakfast restaurant
Lunch restaurant
Byrja Cafe, located in Selfoss, is a charming and family-friendly spot perfect for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. The menu offers a variety of delicious options from fluffy pancakes to hearty sandwiches, all prepared with care to ensure a memorable dining experience. Visitors have praised the great food and reasonable prices at this adorable cafe. It's also noted as a convenient stop for families with young children due to its small play area.
Amazing food and what a cozy welcoming atmosphere. Staff is super friendly and the owners are very welcoming. I added this restaurant to my list of “ must stops “ along the ring road and in Selfoss. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.
Matt N — Google review
Byrja is located near the main roundabout in the centre of Selfoss. It also about as close to an American style dinner that we found while traveling around Iceland. They are open from 7am to 3pm (weekdays) and 8am to 4pm (weekends). They have a fair-sized seating area inside. Menu includes breakfast and lunch sections. We had a nice breakfast here recently. Short stack pancakes with syrup and butter tasted just like those served Stateside. Avocado Toast was decent. Ingredients fresh enough but avocado not quite ripe. Home fries were very good, as were the hash browns ordered alongside the pancakes. Coffees were fine. Service friendly and fairly quick, prices reasonable for dish portions and food quality. Would be fine to eat here again for breakfast.

The best about place is it’s open early at 7am. When I was looking for breakfast place in Selfoss (and other places), I found that most of the places not open until 10am, 11am….this is the only place in Selfoss open before 9. It locates right next to the Kronan supermarket, has plenty of free parking in front of it, very convenient location. The owner was super nice. Food was more like American style breakfast, not my favorite kind of breakfast, but good enough.
Anna X — Google review
Very large portions. Food is pretty good, it’s close to American-style breakfast but the eggs had a very bland taste. Potatoes were yummy. Coffee was ok. I recommend if you’re just looking for a quick, basic breakfast that models an American breakfast.
Korbin W — Google review
Delicious food with friendly and polite service. Nice to find a brunch place in Iceland with great eggs Benedict, hollandaise sauce and delicious bacon. Coffee was also amazing, and the pancakes were yummy. My kid is a picky eater and gobbled up the pancakes with blueberries pretty quickly. Recommended stop on a trip from Reykjavik to Vik.

This is a very American themed restaurant. They are likely catering to the abundant tourists who come into town. I would say, it’s grub… nothing really stands out, taste wise. Just decent food.
Edwin T — Google review
I love this place. The owners are exceptionally thoughtful, friendly, and kind, they radiate positive energy! We were traveling with our 11 month old baby and were delighted to find such a child-friendly place to stop for breakfast – you can tell the owners must have kids of their own, and this makes all the difference when you're traveling with little ones. The food was delicious, everything came out quickly, and I'm pretty sure their bathroom has the best changing table in the entire country.
Melanie L — Google review
One of the few/ only sit down breakfast spots in Selfoss that serves breakfast late. We got here around 10:30am and ordered two Swiss mochas, which I would’ve gotten without whipped cream next time, and two classic eggs Benedict’s with hashbrowns and a breakfast burrito with potatoes to share. Unfortunately the tickets didn’t print so we ended up getting our food 35 mins after we ordered it and watched people sit down after us get served and leave while we still hadn’t gotten our food. Sadly one of our Benedict’s ended up being luke warm almost cold, but still good and the hashbrowns and potatoes were really good. The breakfast burrito was stuffed with refried beans and lots of green peppers which we didn’t know so we wouldn’t get that again. Good hospitality and they gave us a small discount for the inconvenience which was nice. Overall a good place just had a few hiccups.

Menam is a restaurant located in Selfoss, Iceland, offering a diverse range of Asian, international, and seafood cuisines. It has received positive reviews for its good food and is known for its Scandinavian menu. The restaurant provides a pleasant dining experience with its European pub and wine bar setting. Selfoss itself is the largest town in South Iceland and offers over 20 restaurants, cafes, bars where visitors can explore Icelandic cuisine and more.
My daughter and I stopped for food here after our flight into Iceland. This was a great location for a good variety of food, and the pad thai was amazing and the prices were reasonable. There was a nice place to sit outside and plenty of seating inside as well. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good selection of food at a reasonable price with a great atmosphere.

I wanted to like this place but I ordered the so called 3 course meal with panang chicken breast, tiny fried shrimps and mini egg rolls and didn't like it. The chicken was plain, the shrimps too salty and the egg rolls are way too small. It came hot though. The place was packed with many people and the line was long. The price was reasonable for Iceland but unfortunately not the food, sorry.

Delicious! We wanted something warm and light and the pad Thai from Menams was perfect. It was flavorful but not overpowering. Ordering was easy and you got a buzzer when your food was ready. The entire building is cute - such a fun place!

We got the shrimp pad Thai noodles and they were exceptionally delicious! We got this entree twice during our stay! The people at the counter were super friendly. The counters and kitchen was super clean!

The chicken Pad Thai is most delicious and flavorful dish I’ve had during my entire trip in Iceland. While it doesn’t taste like the typical pad thai I’ve come to love, its twist of flavors is exciting and each bite is carefully crafted with much love. Visiting from Boston, Massachusetts USA. Wish I had found this place sooner!

Fröken Selfoss is a charming spot offering small dishes in the style of 'Nordic tapas'. Located on the lower bridge square in the new center of Selfoss, it provides an atmospheric setting for enjoying these casual and varied culinary delights. Visitors have praised its warm and cozy atmosphere, along with its delicious cocktails and well-selected wines. The staff are noted for their pleasantness and professionalism, while the food is described as fresh and made with quality ingredients.
Wonderful place! Had to stop in Selfoss to have dinner and this place was more than satisfactory. Servers were so nice, they were very helpful with dietary restrictions. We tried the goose and the reindeer pate as appetizers, and had lamb, cod and seafood pasta. The lamb was divine, the cod was very flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the seafood pasta was one of the best I’ve ever tried. The prices were on the higher end, but everything e had fulfilled our expectations. I believe the menus are seasonal. We had the July 2025 menu.
Nehir B — Google review
We had the Artic Char and it was probably the best fish I’ve ever eaten in my life. The crispy skin, the perfectly cooked meat of the fish, the white wine and oil. Perfectly prepared, beautifully served with fennel, potatoes and turnip. Classic Icelandic fare. The perfect meal for us to end our trip on! Try the brownies for dessert, they’re almost fudge like and served on top of caramel, blueberries and a subtle chocolate ganache on top.
Robin L — Google review
This is a traditional Icelandic food and restaurant which is the main reason I booked this place. However, because of that, it’s NOT a vegan/vegetarian friendly restaurant. They serve fermented shark and whale meat (in 2025) and all kind of other traditional Icelandic food. Because of that, I had to go somewhere else to eat (luckily there is a food hall nearby) we did order drinks and appetizers like broccoli and bake brea. They tasted yummy. The drink was excellent. Service is great. If they could add more vegetarian and vegan options that would be perfect!

Great place at the central square of Selfoss, the diamond of the South. Although a bit low ceiling due to the architecture, the owner has a distinctive eye on decoration, with lights that remind you of sky lanterns and an amazing bathroom decoration - you will definitely feel the cosyness and relaxed! We had an amazing reindeer carpaccio (well done to the chef) and the tenderloin was just rightly cooked. The seafood pasta reminded me of the original Italian versions - no red sauce, just oil and the seafood, amazing as well! Strongly recommended. Prices not much more expensive that anywhere else in Iceland that you want to have a descent dish.

We chose Fröken to cater at my wedding and we had an incredible experience. They catered both our rehearsal dinner and reception, and both nights were flawless! The night before was a Canapé Party which included Foal tenderloin tataki, Duck Salad, Groovís donuts; it was a relaxed but elevated experience! The delivery was on time and perfectly prepped for easy serving. For the wedding night, Árni came to our cabin and prepared our 6 course tasting menu and the experience was exceptional! Start to finish the food was incredible. My guests absolutely loved the Cured Wild Goose Breast, Broccoli Tempera, Lamb Sirloin, and Reindeer Carpaccio They were very accommodating of any special requests/ allergies. Fröken provided a unique and unbelievably delicious menu that perfectly captured Northern European cuisine. Both nights were beyond our expeditions and I would hire Fröken for all your special occasions or group dinners! Everyone raved about their food for the rest of the vacation!

Had a fantastic fancy dinner in town after a day trip at the national park, waterfall, etc. I picked this place because of the vegan options. Ended up having a vegan beef wellington and wow, that could've easily missed the mark, but it was so delicious. I'm not a salad person, and I even ate the salad. Got a rhubarb crisp, which was just ok, especially for the price. I've had much better, but would highly recommend this place for the vegan main. My husband also enjoyed the unique food off the non-vegan menu.

Selfosskirkja is a beautiful and unique church located near a wide river and an iron bridge, making it a must-visit spot in Selfoss. The church's design is quite remarkable, attracting both tourists and locals. Adjacent to the church is a well-tended cemetery that exudes calmness and serenity, offering visitors a peaceful experience. During the Christmas holidays, the graveyard is adorned with tasteful colorful lights in the shape of crosses, creating a uniquely beautiful memorial.
Beautiful church with a well-tended graveyard behind it. We visited over the Christmas holidays. At this time, the graves were illuminated by a variety of colourful lights, mostly in the shape of crosses. This was not at all garish and created a uniquely beautiful memorial.

Beautiful Church built just around the riverbend. It has great view of wide river and the iron bridge that crosses it. If you stop by Selfoss you must pay a visit. Expensive restaurante in Hotel Selfoss nearby but cheap places to eat too like Subway or a Hotdog hut.

Skyrland is an immersive exhibition and tasting experience that delves into the world of Skyr, Iceland's unique superfood. Housed in the rebuilt Mjolkuhusidh, a former dairy turned food culture house, this attraction offers a self-guided tour showcasing the 1000-year journey of Skyr from a Viking dairy product to a global health food.
Very interesting place! Learned about something new which I always love. You don’t need more than an hour to get through the small interactive museum, we popped in as we journeyed down the South. Try to go when it’s time to eat as well, it’s located in a cute food hall.
Brandi T — Google review
What a cool little interactive museum. Learned a lot of cool things about the history of Skyr and how its made. I have seen it in grocery stores in the US but always thought of it as just another yogurt but now I will add it into my regular eating habits as its way tastier. The tasting they give you at the end of the exhibit is way more than I thought it was going to be and was a nice little treat. Well worth the time and entry fee!
DA H — Google review
Was here a few weeks ago….great treats and loved the wooden spoons! We were here early in the morning, so didn’t stay in the town early, but lots of shops and events. If you eat skyr…you should stop to understand just about the cultures and how and why it got “started” so many years ago.
David J — Google review
A small but fun exhibit. The kids enjoyed the interactive elements and we all learned something. The adult tasting is a very good size and was better than expected. The kids tasting was just a pouch, so that was a little disappointing. Maybe a bit pricey, but it was still a fun stop.

Just got done at Skyrland, it does have some good history about Skyr, however it also says it includes a tasting of skyr, which, they give you a tube of. It is not the type of tasting anyone would expect. Save yourself 40 isk and use chatgpt on the history of Isey Skyr and buy a tube from the grocery store.

Bókasafn Árborgar in Selfoss is a haven for book lovers, offering a wide selection of books catering to various interests. From Icelandic crime stories to Nordic thrillers and ghost tales, the library has something for everyone. Additionally, there are sections dedicated to teenage and children's books. Visitors can also find English books and comic books available. The friendly staff is known for their helpfulness, making it a welcoming place for English-speaking travelers.
We were there for a short stay (it was windy and freezing outside). We realize it is a library but not a bookstore. Nevertheless, we bought a second hand book as a “souvenir” with only 100 krona. There are many English books and comic books we like. Staff are really friendly and the rainbow stair is cute. One colleague of us put this page of Garfield cartoons in her office several years ago. That is one of our good memories.

History exhibits with photos & artifacts related to the life of chess champion Bobby Fischer.
A WONDERFUL experience. To begin with, even though the museum is "closed" in winter time, you can email them and they'll arrange for you to visit! The curator lady, Aldis, is VERY knowledgeable. I consider myself a real Fischer-enthusiast and truth be told, I do know a lot about this unmatched chess genius. And yet, I learned A LOT from Aldis! She literally gave myself and my wife a full lecture on Fischer's life, especially as related to the "Match of the Century", ie the Fischer-Spassky match of 1972, Reykjavik, Iceland There Is a replica of the table, chairs, board and pieces, in the main hall 9f the small museum. There are tons of photographs, newspaper and journal clippings, artifacts, memorabilia,... etc. There's even a little gift shop! Bobby's grave is less than 1 kilometer away. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Bahram S — Google review
If you are a chess player and / or interested in chess history, that's the place to visit in Iceland. The distance from Reykjavik city center to Selfoss, where the center is situated, is approximately 55 km (about 45 minutes car driving time). It's not a big place but definitely worth visiting. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get the door opened because the center's docent had stepped out. They have all kind of memorabilia related to Bobby Fischer, including a life-sized replica of the table used in the 1972 "Match of the Century" between Fischer and Spassky. There are numerous photos, posters, etc. related to that match. They also have books and souvenirs for sale. To get to the center, one has to climb the stairs. I don't think that they have an elevator there. For anyone with physical limitations, be aware. Bobby Fischer's graveyard is situated approximately 2 km away from the center in Selfoss.

Aldis was great telling all of the information known, and the story of Bobby Fischer in Iceland, and afterward. Very nice little place. Tournaments on Thursdays, 730pm, I think. Also home to a chess club, and a nice little chess library. Entrance is in the back, NorthEast corner, it's upstairs. Well worth the 1000kr for a visit.
M S — Google review
If you are a chess player, or even just someone who enjoys history, please come and visit this amazing spot. Bobby Fischer led a complicated life, and the museum shows this through all the artifacts and pieces within. It may be small in size, but it was truly wonderful being able to go over the life of one of the Greats.
Sebastian L — Google review
An hour outside of Reykjavik, a must see for any chess fan. Great little place off the beaten path but well worth the drive. He is buried at a church nearby if you want to make the trip complete.

Very lovely place to learn the history of Bobby Fischer! The curator was able to flawlessly answer all questions I asked about Fischer and the merch is to die for. I also loved Hans Niemann's note and how funny it was to be next to a signed Magnus Carlsen board! Also got to see Fischer's passport, play chess on the same table which the 1972 Spassky-Fischer matches happened! Deserves 5 stars!
Aharshi B — Google review
This museum is small but valuable for preserving the legacy of Bobby Fischer, the best chess player in history, and shows an amazing history of the evolution of chess and its championships; donations support local chess clubs

Flatey Pizza is an Icelandic restaurant that gained popularity for its Neapolitan style pizzas made with slow-rising sourdough. It first opened in Grandi harbour area in 2017 and has since expanded to five other branches, including one in Selfoss. The pizza place offers a delightful crispy and thin crust, topped with unique ingredients like pickled chili peppers and honey for a perfect balance of flavors. Excellent pizza! Best pizza I've had in Iceland. I love the food court options and decor.

The best pizza I’ve ever had! What a treat. Located in the Old Diary Food Hall, there are a few restaurants to choose from and if you like mushrooms I couldn’t recommend the tartufo pizza enough. Glad we stopped here on the way back from Vik

Had dinner at Flatey Pizza yesterday. The pizza was good. The staff were not welcoming, and the wait time was longer than expected. Also, since it’s located inside a busy food hall, finding a seat can be challenging sometimes (depending on time of the day).

We were just drinking a beer and as we are just in front of Flatery Pizza, we order a Diábolo pizza just as a kind of snack, hot snack as was frozen outside Mjolkurbu Floamanna. The pizza was delicious and the taste was fantastic. We just order as well two beers more for support on eating the pizza. It was an amazing afternoon, cool foot in a cool place
Dani L — Google review
It used to be great pizza, but unfortunately not anymore. Once again, some ingredients were missing, and once again, the waiting time was long despite the place not being busy. The pizza was greasy, the toppings kept falling off, and the crust was falling apart. I don’t usually complain or leave negative reviews, but this has happened again. It’s a shame. I work in the food service industry myself, so I’m understanding — but these are things that can be avoided.

This is the reason we come to Salfoss over and over again. This pizza is truly exceptional. We came here last year and the pizza was beyond good, we came back two more times on that same trip. Ok Tonight we are back again one year later after an amazing day chasing glaciers! Same brilliant service and exquisite food. Here’s our pizza.

Surf and Turf is a cozy restaurant with a family-owned vibe that offers a mix of fantastic Icelandic fare and classic dishes. The menu includes delicious options like asparagus soup, baked salmon, lamb, bacon burger, fish and chips, mushroom soup, chicken with cheese and mushrooms, and the house specialty horse meat. While the service could be improved according to some patrons, others found it acceptable given the crowded atmosphere. The sauces offered were particularly noteworthy.
The food was amazing! After shopping in bonus, we decided to stop around and check the menu. I asked if they had soup because of my daughter, they said yes and we stayed. Ordered that asparagus soup.. Delicious. Had the baked salmon and the lamb.. The Lamb was the star of the night. Cozy restaurant from what it seemed to be family owned. Very good food!

The service in the restaurant could improve, but it was a crowdy and acceptable. The Bacon Burger was pretty good but not outstanding. The sauces they had were really good. The others i was with said, it was the best fish they ate in a restaurant - This is why the restaurant earned 5 stars. And compared to other restaurants it was cheaper.

Decent food with quantity and quality. Our family were treated no differently from others with our American English. The place was full when we visited. Very family style restaurant with chairs you see in ordinary families. But place is clean.

Restaurant
Kaffi Krús in Selfoss is a popular restaurant known for its hearty fare and stellar reputation for good food. The atmosphere is great, and the staff are very friendly. The menu offers delicious options like lamb, fish & chips, and moist carrot cake that's not too sweet. With separate counters for ordering and centrally located seating, it's a convenient spot to enjoy a satisfying meal.
We stopped here for dinner after a long day of travels. Also our last night in Iceland. We found the atmosphere delightful and charming... cozy little place with an ecclectic collection of tables and chairs, as well as an upstairs seating area. Our server was a wonderful young man (from Hungary) and was very helpful with the menu choices. He had a great sense of humor. The food was excellent! Fish of the day ... salmon and a smoked salmon salad. It was a wonderful place to finish up the day. It also got very busy as the early evening wore on!!

After a morning of diving and sight seeing in wet weather, this place was great to warm up with a cup of coffee and cake. After our table neighbors received their food, I was thinking we probably should have eaten lunch there instead. It looked amazing. Coffee was great, so was the cake. It is a quiet comfy place. It was clean, the waitress was kind and the prices were average.

This is the wonderful place to visit and enjoy your dinner. I order the lamb shanks, that's the best decision I've ever made in my Iceland trip. the flavour is so good and the sides is delicious as well. The restaurant has perfect environment and high level food, it can meet everything you need.

We visited the place twice during our stay in Iceland for dinner. There is a wide range of food to choose from fish, butgers or pizza. You also have a great selection of sweets to have with your coffee. We were a group of 16 people and we found a spot to sit both times (split in two). Prices were average for Iceland so expect to pay around 30+ euros per person. We had fish of the day, which was Ling, the second time was Salmon, but we didn't try. It was served with grilled vegetables, and it was really tasty. We also tried Tower Burger. It was excellent with a strong taste of garlic, which we loved, but if you dont like garlic, maybe choose something else. Finally, we tried the signature pizza. It was also tasty but a bit too heavy. If you order, eat while it's still warm.

The place is charming. Good music and great ambiance. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The food was brilliant. Cooked to perfection, everything. Seasoned to perfection, everything. Punches high on food. Steak was perfectly cooked and buttered mushrooms were fantastic. For the area, excellent food at not a bad price for the quality.
Michael S — Google review
Unfortunately our experience here wasn't our favorite. All of our food lacked flavor and for the price point, it just simply wasn't worth the try. When titles such as "former national culinary team member" is used, expectations tend to go up. We were expecting flavor bombs for our last meal in Iceland, but it came up short. We got steamed buns, crispy chicken, edamame, cauliflower, and mixed salad. The steamed buns from the main course section are not traditional steamed buns and had I known that, I probably would have skipped them- although that was on me for not digging deeper into the online reviews to see that. 2 of the 3 buns lacked any flavor- the pork one had the most flavor and that was from the sauce served on top of it. Crispy chicken was perfectly crisp with the sauce, but the chicken was bland. Edamame had potential, but since it was a butter sauce, all the flavor was sitting in the bottom of the bowl. When you finally got to the butter that was all you could taste due to the butter not being infused with the ginger and chili, leaving the dish to be bland. Cauliflower was missing flavor, we craved for even a little bit of salt at minimum to enhance any potential flavor in the red pepper sauce. Mixed salad was good, but it was dry, it needed more tomato salsa on there to help dress the greens a bit since there wasn't any dressing. After reading many other reviews, it looks like many people complained or dishes being too salty, but now there just isnt any st which leaves dishes falling flat of flavor. I guesa the balance may be missing somewhere. The espresso martini was delicious, house red was tasty and we loved the white ale on tap. Our server was pleasant, but there were only 2 of them running the whole floor and it was obviously stressful resulting in the environment feeling tense and not so desirable. All in all, we would not return to this spot as the prices do not reflect the food. But this is definitely the spot to come to sit at the bar and enjoy an espresso martini with some sweets!

Michelle Bird, a talented artist and host, offers a unique experience at The Art House in Borgarnes. Visitors have described their stays as unforgettable, with the house being turned into an art exhibition that immerses guests in the emotions evoked by the artwork. The warm and dynamic paintings set the perfect mood for experiencing the surrounding nature. Guests have also enjoyed participating in events like film festivals and collaborating with Michelle to create new artworks that are exhibited at The Art House.
It was a great experience collaborating with Michelle and creating new artworks that were in turn exhibited at her Art House in Borgarnes. The space is condusive to creating, so much so that our intuitive healing art came alive and almost painted themselves. I have been to the Art House many times to create, paint, do yoga and to just relax and enjoy the spectacular views!

I've visited Michelle at The Art House twice now, and both times were heaven. The first time was a few years ago for the "Borgarnes Film Freaks" film festival (coincidentally, the title of the film I screened was BFFs), and I loved getting to meet so many locals and experience the beautiful art, nature, and thermal baths in the area. And, as it was winter, the Northern Lights made a memorable appearance as well. The second visit, in January of 2022, was equally memorable. Michelle made us immediately feel at home, and we were grateful for her hospitality. I feel fortunate to consider Michelle a friend now, and I admire the work she has done to foster the arts in Borgarnes. I look forward to returning again.
Andrew P — Google review
I stayed with Michelle twice, once in May 2015 and then again in Dec 2022, and both times were unforgettable. I’ve always had a sensitive soul and have loved the way art makes me feel. But what Michelle did in Borgarnes I had never experienced before: she turned her house into an exhibition and invited us to live in the feelings that art can produce. Her paintings were warm and dynamic and always put me in the right frame of mind to experience the great nature that surrounded her studio. It was a once-in-a-life time experience - twice after it got into my soul - to be above the bay, in front of the Hafnarfjall mountains, below the aurora borealis, in a little art cottage, on a peninsula, somewhere in Iceland …

I exhibited my artwork at Art House Borganes and had a fantastic time! Michelle is an amazing artist and host and has done an incredible job in making her house an art hub. I had lovely artistic encounters and conversations and the place is amazing!

Me and my fiancée had the best of time with a private drawing lesson with Michelle. Michelle was extremely open and friendly - and we felt privileged to receive her full attention and expert guidance for a long while. At the end, it felt like we were visiting a friend who happened to also be a super creative and passionate artist willing to share her world. Can't recommend highly enough...

Beautiful work, hand-made pieces and wooden machines by the artist, his wife, and his father, as well as work by other local artists. The gallery is built around the woodshop of the artist's father. You need to ring the doorbell for entry - the fee is 1500ISK per person, and it is worth it. We were given a very personal tour about the different pieces and their origins, as our host graciously worked to talk to us in English. We also got an impromptu demonstration of a refurbished church organ. Thank you. Please keep making more beautiful art!

First a visit to the Troll and Fairy Museum (Islandic Wonders) in Stokkseyri and then along the river to Urridafoss, near Ringstraße 1. We came across this small museum and studio by chance. The museum shows wooden sculptures of the "artist family" and "historical stories". The artist's son showed us around and gave us an insight into the family history, life in Iceland in the past and the origins of the farm. It was a very personal tour. because he also reported a lot about his father. Very interesting and enriched the trip nicely. Ölvisholt Brewery is a hidden gem worth discovering, located in the Glacier area of Iceland. The brewery offers a family-like atmosphere and a warm welcome from knowledgeable staff. Visitors can enjoy a great selection of beers, each with its own unique charm and backstory. The brewery's special beer brewed for the Glacier area using thyme, Vatnajokull, is highly recommended for its amazing taste.
What can I say??? We passed Olvisholt Brugghus on a bit of a whim, and unsure what to expect or if it would even be open for that matter. Well what a surprise it was!!! This place is an absolute hidden gem and well worth a detour from the usual golden circle sights. Berglind is so warm and welcoming with great local knowledge and tips on local spots to go and try and, of course, great beer knowledge! By the time we left, it felt like we were family as we had all become fast friends. Her husband was out back bottling the latest drop and, along with the several great beers we had sampled and decided to take with us, he even snuck us a few bottles of the fresh stuff to take home and try! And the beer? THE BEER IS GREAT!!! Just don’t park in the wrong spot and get fed to the trolls!

Roofs of sod have sheltered mainland Scandinavians through countless winters and summers. But those who migrated from Norway's grass-roof log cabins to this Icelandic tundra in the 9th century found none of the rich timberlands of their homeland — just wispy birch forests and grassy fields. To survive the cold, they took the old turf roof concept and built on it, encasing not only the roofs but the walls of their birch-framed homes in layers of living, insulating soil. The turf buildings shown here are located at Skaftafell, a manor farm founded by early settlers and now part of Vatnajökull National Park. Unlike Icelanders' history, though, these huts aren't a millennium-old. They date to the 19th century when the plains in the distance began flooding and the farmers who'd made homes there were forced uphill.
Omprakash — Google review

Fascinating insight into life in a turf house. The tour was delivered with great passion by the owner. The best museum we have been to in Iceland.
Susan C — Google review
A big plus goes to the couple Hannes and Kristín to restore the old turf House at Eystri-Meðalholt. There are not many turf houses like this in their original setting in South Iceland, but there are more in the north. Got to know the reason yesterday: Due to the wet condition in the south, the farms had to be rebuild every ~40 years, but It is much drier in the north, where couple of farms like this still stand (as museums). The couple has collected many photos of the turf houses around the country and display them in their relatively newly build museum house. Yesterday these two visionaries gave the tour themselves, and it was terrific because they love the subject so much. It is, however, unlikely that they can give the tour themselves all the time, once the visitor numbers rises.

Great options of tasty food. Perfect for after seeing sights all day and you've worked up an appetite
Luke M — Google review
For the price, you can't go wrong! We weren't really sure what to expect when we walked in the door, but we decided to eat regardless. It is pretty typical bar type food - the service was good too. There was a large pizza deal with two toppings for just 1,000 isk so we got two and a beer, and it turned out to be cheaper for both of us than it usually is for just one. Great pizza and we had leftovers for the next day. The ice cream is also very good!
Greg J — Google review
Really nice restrooms. Everything is very clean. Great roadside stop for ice cream and snacks. Connected to the KFC.
John V — Google review
The people working there are nice but the pizza is probably the worst pizza ive eaten. The pizza tasted weird
Alexander N — Google review
550isk for a small size cup of soft serve. It includes 3 toppings and syrup if you want it. I feel that the portions were very large. Locals getting ice cream on a Monday night, this place was great!!!!

Fast food restaurant
KFC is a popular restaurant chain known for its fried chicken buckets, combo meals, and sides. In Iceland, fast food trends have seen the rise and fall of various chains like Dominos Pizza, Subway, and KFC. Despite McDonald's brief presence in the country, it ceased operations after facing economic challenges. A visitor to a Canadian KFC praised it as having the best meat substitute and clean facilities with friendly staff.
Fast service, yeah the price is higher than usual but this is Iceland. I ate the double down which was very good, the fries are not the best but this is the same in the kfc in my European country as well. USA kfc and European kfc are different
BoB P — Google review
Hot garbage. I’ve never felt so disrespect while eating food in my life. The price is insane, but the quality is beyond shocking, Shockingly bad. The meat is drier than my skin while in Iceland. The crisp is non existent. The over all flavor is so bad that I had to hop on this platform to leave this review so yall can watch me suffer and waste my money instead. I cannot believe 1 wrap 1 burger 1 medium fries is 30$ USD for this kind of food. It’s my fault to chose KFC.
Lafuanda — Google review
Service is good, the food is not. Almost everything tastes reheated compared to other KFC locations around the world. I can only attribute this to the lack of fresh chicken in Iceland, which is understandable. Out of all fast food places, I’m wondering why the place that mainly serves chicken was picked. Probably a good thing though, as this lack of good fast food allows the smaller and fresher restaurants to thrive.

This is not the KFC that I’m used to.. Iceland KFC is not the same as the rest of the world. Unless it’s only this particular KFC in Iceland that serves this type of Fries chicken The skin is not crispy, it’s doesn’t even look like KFC skin Just look at the pictures
Tazz H — Google review
Very nice place with tasty chicken dishes located on the main road. I love the hot wings with extra chicken sauce.
Łukasz M — Google review
This is the worst KFC I’ve ever had in my life. The price was insane but food quality was miserable. Almost all food tasted like they’ve been reheated. Chicken meat was dry and bland. The quality was so bad that I had to leave a review to warn others from coming to this place. It was a complete scam and waste of money.
Kevin Z — Google review
Burger unexpected large but sadly soggy and just spicy. Fries bland and cold. No filets bites available in this location. Was kind of expecting similar menu items than on other locations in Europe or the us, but was disappointed. On the plus side, the ice dispenser does give out crushed ice which would be fantastic for mojito! Sadly not available either. So much potential though = ) 2 stars!
Vasco E — Google review
Pretty nice KFC. The ordering kiosk was easy to use and the food was out quickly. That BBQ sauce stole the show and they were generous with the fries.

The horse ride was nice and left a smile on our kids. A lot of different animals to visit, bounce jump and a kid castle. Clean toilets, nice staff and good over all experience for the whole family.

This was probably the saddest place I've been in Iceland. Cats, dogs, rabbits and hens each are kept in a small room. The goats, pigglets, sheeps and cows had more space and were outside with a shed. The girl at the entrance was nice and answerd all the quetions and promised, that the goat would get its hoofs trimmed and the cats and dogs are only fenced in during the opening hours.
Tanja — Google review
Great little farm/playground/bouncy castle. Despite on of the earlier reviews we thought the animals looked very well groomed, kept and quite content!
Masha O — Google review
My kids (3 and 1) loved it. But it seemed a bit cruel to the animals who are kept questionably..
Anu J — Google review
The animals all seemed to be well cared for and had tons of room to engage in their natural behaviours.

Park
Hellisskógur, located just outside Selfoss, is a small forest with roads and walking paths for visitors to explore. The area also features benches for relaxation and picnics. One of the highlights is a cave formed by sea erosion during a glacial period. Additionally, there are charming huts reminiscent of those from 'The Hobbit,' marking the beginning of a trail leading to the cave where local urban legends have taken place.

The customer service has been consistently impressive, with employees going above and beyond to assist customers. Additionally, Olís is known for its competitive fuel prices and cheaper coffee compared to other gas stations.
Open early in the morning. Nice selection of premade sandwiches, drinks and chips.

Only place open in the city at 0130 after being stuck in a blizzard at the Black Sand Beach and driving all day. Pleasantly surprised by the amazing burgers and onion rings! Staff was friendly, fuel prices low. Thoroughly enjoyed accidentally finding this place!!

Very bad experience here in Selfoss the floor and tables are very dirty ( full Of ketchup salad cartons of milk with cocoa and paper. the burgers are cold and without any taste. We asked if someone can clean the table and they said yes of course and nobody came to clean I cleaned it by myself they came to clean after we finish to eat. In Reykjavik they are doing a great job everything is clean and the burgers are very good and taste. I don’t recommend and I will not came anymore. At least not here in Selfoss I’m so disappointed because in the past their burgers was very good 😔 I give one start because doesn’t deserve more.

It has happened several times that they do not write the correct price of the fuel on the boards outside. Yesterday there was written 300 ISK per Diesel liter, but then on the pump it was 324.

Hotel Grimsborgir by Keahotels is an upscale hotel located on the Golden Circle in the Icelandic countryside. The elegant rooms and suites offer beautiful views and are equipped with comfortable beds. The main building features a refined restaurant and a cozy lounge, while each "superior" hotel room pod boasts two spring-fed hot tubs at the back. Guests can enjoy a full breakfast buffet with an omelet cooking station and delicious meals for dinner.
Had an absolutely wonderful time here during our 4 night stay! Location: 5/5 Yes, it is a bit away from major attractions, but it is a central location! We rented a car (which honestly is the best thing) and we were able to drive and see the major waterfalls, beaches, and even the famous plane wreck. It is also 15 minutes from a city center with a grocery story and lots of restaurants. Rooms: 5/5 Compliments to the housekeeping staff! Rooms were cleaned very well and made neatly everyday. Had good space, with a balcony, and the neatness made it feel so much more perfect. Breakfast: 5/5 Lots of options - has something for everyone. Staff: 5/5 The restaurant staff is truly wonderful. They were always tending to guests, maintaining the space, and consistently ensuring all was well. The front desk staff was helpful as well giving us restaurant recommendations too! Overall, we had a wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay here! We highly recommend this place. We needed assistance locking our door as we weren’t familiar with the lock. Within 5 min someone had drove over and kindly educated us. Our house was located on the back of the property so we got a view of all they had to offer. It felt homey and welcoming like arriving at a close family member’s house, both inside and outside. Out of all of our wonderful places we stayed, this was our favorite! Food options were limited but the restaurant on site was delicious and service was spot on!

Very well located for the Golden Circle. We had a Superior room which is arranged around a communal dining area and 2 excellent outdoor hot tubs. The whole complex seems like it is fairly new and is very nicely built, with small buildings spread around a central reception / restaurant. It feels clean, modern and stylish. Service was also very good and the restaurant selection for breakfast was great.
Youbie — Google review
Very comfortable rooms, nice and specious with super comfortable beds. The breakfast is great! The didn't clean our rooms although we have specifically asked. They gave us some free drinks to compensate and fresh towels. We stayed for only two nights at the golden circle.

At first I was disappointed it was so far from actual Selfoss but the views at night of the Northern lights made up for that…it’s not in Selfoss it’s about 20 minutes away. So I wanted a place more to walk around and grab dinner and coffee since we would be staying in more rural Vik and Hella. This is all by itself but the accommodations are beautiful - we had a suite so there was a heated gas fire place that was so nice in the chilly evening. Then it was so clear we drove just down the street and parked at a power station pull off and got some amazing shots of the northern lights. They were the best we saw while in Iceland.
Amy H — Google review
Mixed Experience – Room Nice, Service Lacking When we arrived, the welcome was cold. We were told to hurry if we wanted to eat at the restaurant because it would soon be full. We rushed to get a table, but the restaurant was completely empty. The food wasn’t bad, but nothing special either. The large beer was priced as a full-size, yet only 400ml instead of the standard 500ml. The staff seemed uninterested, as if they’d rather be somewhere else—though the food did arrive quickly. The room itself was spacious, clean, and very nice. However, the heating was set to maximum and the room was uncomfortably hot. We had forgotten a toothbrush for our child and asked if they had one. They did, but it cost 800 ISK—something most hotels offer for free. Outside, the hot pots had no lighting. It might be beautiful in summer or under the northern lights, but in pitch darkness it wasn’t enjoyable. Breakfast was another odd experience. The staff cleared plates so quickly that I had to fetch three different ones. My spouse went to get milk for our child, coffee disappeared , and while our child was still holding her bread, her plate disappeared. It felt like the service was a bit too eager—almost intrusive. l

We stayed for one night after completing the Golden Circle route. Room was great, loved the door to the outside in the room. The breakfast was great! Lots of variety! The only thing we did not like is that every other room had outside patio furniture except for us...not sure why, but would have liked that. Also, just to know there are a lot of flies outside, but it's do-able.
Lorie N — Google review
Due to drones at Munich Airport, our flight could not take off and our trip did not happen. I asked the hotel manager to be accommodating, as it was not our fault. It would have been customer-friendly if we had received a voucher to spend the nights at the hotel at another time. We were not even reimbursed for the price of breakfast. Not very customer-friendly.
