Caldas da Rainha in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Caldas da Rainha, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Caldas da Rainha is known for its historic thermal baths, founded in the 15th century by Queen Leonor, and for a long tradition of ceramics, showcased in museums and workshops around town. You can explore the playful, satirical designs of Bordallo Pinheiro, stroll through the leafy Parque D. Carlos I, and visit one of Portugal’s oldest daily produce markets. The city has a relaxed, local feel, with cafés and tiled streets, while also serving as a convenient base for nearby highlights like the medieval village of Óbidos and the beaches of Foz do Arelho on the Óbidos Lagoon.
With favorites like Parque Dom Carlos I, Pizzaria Dona Branca, and Fonte Luminosa, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Citrus - Coffee & Healthy Food and Geo Wine & Supra so you can get the best taste of Caldas da Rainha while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Shopping mall
Shopping
La Vie Caldas da Rainha is a small, old-school shopping center located in the city center. Despite receiving fewer visitors than in the past, it houses several businesses that have managed to survive. The upper floor features a food court with tasty and reasonably priced food, while the lower floor is more of a supermarket area. In between, there are shops for fashion, jewelry, and various items. Additionally, there is a cinema inside and a parking lot available.
Nice place to visit, specially this street that leads to outdoor market. I recommend it. FREE Live music (Fado), nide atmosphere.
Filomena P — Google review
I didn't like the shopping center! There used to be a children's Zara, they removed it... the food courts on the third floor are empty... nothing new has appeared in this shopping center in 3 years, it's only getting worse, it would be better if they opened new stores that are really needed in this shopping center
Aleksandra S — Google review
Cool place, everything is there what you want.. Sports, restaurants, cinema, clothing market, books shop.. Perfect

Very nice food court. Big surprise and even found there brasilian buffet with fresh grilled meat. Fantastic experience for cca 15 euro all in.

Nice city mall!!! Has many stores and a interesting food court!!! And rideable robots for kids.
Daniel F — Google review
Got some new shoes there so I cannot complain. Grocery store is all the way at the bottom. From what I saw there is a parking garage available.
Jan O — Google review
3 story shopping center downtown with a parking including carwash service. Top floor is mainly a food court.
Hans O — Google review
The parking garage is confusing/opaque, the elevators are unreliable, moving erratically, and there's a long wait time for them.

The Museu da Cerâmica, also known as the Ceramic Museum, is located in a charming 19th-century manor house surrounded by lush gardens in Caldas da Rainha. The museum boasts an extensive collection of ceramics from Portugal and around the world, spanning from ancient artifacts to contemporary creations. A significant highlight is the display of works by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, renowned for his distinctive pottery inspired by natural motifs.
Beautiful museum extremely well preserved. The history of the tradition of ceramics in this city is well documented and the pieces exposed are incredible. The house itself, a former palace, is a gem, with beautiful gardens. Really worth to visit when in town.
Ana L — Google review
We decided to visit this little museum on a whim because it was raining one day. We were pleasantly surprised by the collection. Housed in a historical manor, and surrounded by garden. Worth the visit if you’re in the area!
John P — Google review
The museum itself is beautiful, with a lovely garden. The ceramics shown are interesting and will learn you more about Portugal. The guide I met had a lot of knowledge and passion!
Anna E — Google review
It was okay, nothing to write home about. An old house filled with old tiles and pottery. No information about processes or history. I was amazed by this item though. It said it was a candle holder. But my attention was captured by the amazing amount of detail in the tiny figures. Absolutely fascinating.
Rute A — Google review
Manor house with three floors, displaying old and modern, decorative and functional, ceramic pieces and some decorative glass items, as well as tiled walls and fireplaces. Note also the gargoyles on the building façade. Low admission fee. Lovely, treed grounds.

This was a really fun way to explore the rich history of ceramics! The museum opens at 2pm and costs 6-8 euros but it has 3 levels of amazing pieces

Parque Dom Carlos I is a serene and picturesque park located in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. Named after King Carlos, the park offers a delightful combination of art, history, and nature. It features beautifully sculpted gardens, charming ponds inhabited by swans and ducks, and elegant statues that celebrate Portugal's cultural heritage.
Beautiful park! It feels so abundantly natural and organic! Unfortunately we no longer make parks this way which is unfortunate, but it’s why we have to cherish the most the ones that are like this! It felt so peaceful, sitting and look over the lake. Also has one of the most interesting buildings I have seen, but unfortunately as a lot of others in Portugal it’s abandoned and in a bad shape…

Nice place to walk, enjoy the nature and beautiful lake with birds, two couples of swans 🦢 and peacock 🦚
Olha I — Google review
My friend told me that every month of August there's an event at this park. More foods and items to buy and in the late afternoon there's a band that you can enjoy while eating sandwiches etc. You can bring your pets and there is also a playground for children.
Gina G — Google review
A great place for a walk or a picnic. They have a beautiful garden full of birds and flowers. There is also small row boats for hire which give you a great view of the park.
Harri F — Google review
Parque Dom Carlos is filled with giant old trees that keep it cool in the summer. The lake offers plenty of bird watching and relaxation time. There's a museum and 2 restaurants, plus who can resist the peacocks. With plenty of walking paths, you can get your exercise while stopping to smell the roses in the rose garden. During the summer, into the Christmas holiday loads of events both free and paid for the family. Concerts, festivals, food, and fun. It's a wonderful place for people watching or just relaxing, a beautiful edition to the town.
Heidi M — Google review
Stunning park! This is an absolute must visit when it comes to having a picnic or even feeding all the animals some bread! It was a really fun experience that left me happy at the end of the day.

Nice park, could use some maintance. Has some facilities and cafe’s.

A lovely green park that is home to a monthly flea market on the second Sunday of each month. Serene and cooling, with benches under the shady foliage of the old trees and views of the waterscape. A nice break from the daily hustle and bustle and the heat of the day. A playground keeps the kiddos occupied and happy. Nice!

Maratona is a gasthaus that offers delicious vegetarian dishes without any meat or fish. You can also relax at the bar with a cold beer or other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The kitchen serves international cuisine and delightful desserts for both adults and children. Established in 1966, Maratona has become one of the most emblematic social spaces in the city over the years.
Really good value for money. We paid 53€ for 1 starter, 2 mains, 1 dessert and a bottle of wine. All the dishes were really tasty and carefully presented. The style is modern but not pretentious. Only downsides: they are a bit too slow and you cannot pay with American Express
Sofía M — Google review
We came in to have a quick bite and drink, it took a bit to order, but ended up ordering some quick bites. The atmosphere it was good as well as the decoration. The food it was not so bad, the soups were good, the drinks also good, but the toast it was disappointing it had a lot grease the shrimps and the pineapple it was hot it didn’t tasted good unfortunately. Next time I’ll want to try the restaurant area to give it a go but won’t come back for the bar area.
Catarina A — Google review
I wish I liked it more. The star of the show is the view and atmosphere outside. I think it’s the best outdoor seating in Caldas da Rainha. Over numerous visits I have only found the food to be so-so. Service is OK and there is usually someone who speaks English. I think it’s a great place to enjoy a wine or sangria and some dessert on a sunny, warm afternoon or evening. On the plus side it’s right near the April 25 Praça so there is ample parking nearby.
Michael B — Google review
Making the drive from Peniche to Caldas da Rainha specifically to eat at this place again? I'm not quite convinced. The meat had a bit too much fat for my taste and while the codfish was okay, it was a bit scant on the plate. However, the chocolate dessert piqued my interest, especially the golden "rocks". They added a unique touch. I'd say overall, the experience was mixed.
Tiago P — Google review
great food and good value for money. excellent wine selection—our waiter recommended one and it was spot on!
Myckaela M — Google review
Superb dishes and excellent service. The wine list is excellent and the food is well prepared and beautifully presented. Traditional Portuguese recipes with a modern touch and tasteful sauces. I recommend coxinhas and grilled bacalhau. Surely I will be back there soon.
Denis — Google review
Everything was perfect. The food was very good and they have different options. The workers were very nice. Good prices
Ari L — Google review
We went there twice and both time where big failures. If you're in an urge to eat, this place isn't for you, you'll definitely wait long minutes if not hours for your plate. The waiters are lost and unfriendly, the food arrives cold because of the disorganised kitchen, some plates will arrive sooner than others .. The place has everything to be good (great outdoors, food is nice) but due to a lack of staff and envy it ends up being very deceptive. I do not recommend it, unless the owners start giving a shit about their clients.

Market
The famous Praça da Fruta in Caldas da Rainha is a must-visit spot on the Silver Coast of Portugal. This open-air farmers' market, which has been around since the 15th century, offers an authentic and vibrant shopping experience. Surrounded by beautiful art nouveau buildings adorned with traditional Portuguese ceramic tiles, this market is a treasure trove of regional products and local delicacies.
Quality of the produce is unbelievable, I have never seen fruits and vegetables so vibrant, lush and fresh! This market has cheese, fresh flowers, ham, bread, cakes and the loveliest vendors. There are also many coffee stops along the way. Just minutes away from the beautiful Caldas park 💕

This is a must go if you’re in the area. It’s a vibrant market for local residents yet you will see a lots of tourists as well. Mondays are not the best day.
William T — Google review
I'm not sure if it was because it was Monday. About 1/2 the stalls were empty. That said, everything was fresh and clean, and the vendors were helpful. Not everyone speaks English, but I was able to get by on French and pantomime. If you're looking for fresh veggies and fruit, I would start here before going to the supermarket.

We found Praça da Fruta das Caldas da Rainha completely by accident during a trip to Obidos for my birthday, and so glad we did! The open air market is a great sensory experience, and the town itself is so charming. We’ll definitely make this stop during our next trip!

Smallish market place to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese. Can be busy but still worth it - best place to buy fresh ingredients. There are cafes around it, a few hours in a good weather goes by just like that.
Timo H — Google review
Mostly fruit and veg. Good choices. Hat and bag and nik naks stall. Dried flowers stall. Craft stall and wind chimes and bracelets. Lovely ladies worked those 2 stalls. Also visited the craft market there on Saturday night. Some lovely items, unusual jewellery, candles, pottery, prints etc.

Fresh produce from around Caldas da Rainha. Colourful tents with a variety of products from flowers, veggies, fruits, nuts and jams. There is snack shop with refreshments and outdoor sitting. Saturdays are best as there are more sellers. Close to the town centre and the D. Carlos park, making it a perfect place for a quick break during the day visit.

It offers a wonderful opportunity to stroll along its beautiful paths, surrounded by lush greenery and the delightful sounds of birds. The park is also popular among dog owners who take their pets for peaceful walks under the shade of trees.
The Mata is a wonderful place to walk the trails, enjoying nature and being under the beautiful tree canopy filled with birds. You can also access the futball club here for games, and there are picnic tables in one section. We also see lots of peeps with their dogs while walking this peaceful place. Absolutely loved this place! I had a Chai and a falafel bowl, and it was some of the best I've had! I was very happy to see vegetarian options here in addition to others, and they weren't any less tasty! We sat on the balcony overlooking the city, and it was just lovely. Love this healthy, casual eatery right across from the Fruit Market in downtown Caldas da Rhaina. Menus available in Portuguese, French, Spanish and English. We came for smoothies one day and came back for brunch the very next day and lunch a few days later. Phillip was so friendly and personable and answered our menu questions. When we found out we couldn't sit outside due to a broken awning, we asked if we could order it to go, but Phillip offered us the balcony as an alternative. He escorted me upstairs, opened the doors and asked if that would work for us, since I need to dine outside. Such FABULOUS service and we enjoyed our drinks and food. The second visit was for brunch, so I had the chicken with avocado and egg bowl. So tasty with pickled cabbage. He had the avocado eggs Benedict and they were so good as well. The Sangria was a fun addition to our brunch. The juices and smoothies are made fresh to order. We especially love the Detox Smoothie with cinnamon. We returned one more time for lunch outside and I had a salad and he had a chicken wrap served with veggies and house-made hummus. We will definitely return on our next visit. Five stars for service, food and drinks. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This place is adorable and the healthy food is always good. I also enjoy the fact that this place is seemingly always open when I want to eat, and I don't feel like I need to leave because they are closing for the afternoon. The food is fresh and delicious, I was ecstatic to find a piece of apple pie American Style. The crust is more to my liking than the usual American type. It's more of a cake type? I guess you'd have to judge for yourself, so get there and try it! It's super delicious and not overly sweet. I don't know why the colors in the photo look gold, the pie is not a strange color. There's an upstairs area where you can go if it's too crowded outside or on the lower level. I like it the restrooms are clean also. Service can be a little slow and sometimes I have sat at my table for longer than I prefer, but I did mention there's apple pie! LOL
Jennifer L — Google review
I gave Citrus a final chance. I’m not a fan of the food, neither of the generic coffee. And I thought let me sample a white wine. No worries its not a natural wine, yet I would expect it from this place. But the wine, wasn’t drinkable, too sweet, low quality. And we are in Portugal where you can get great wines for €3 in the supermarket. So you really have to make an effort to find a bad wine. I left my wine after a sip and went to a place where they do make an effort to have great wines..

Geo Wine & Supra is a fantastic eatery that serves delicious and flavorful food. The pork chop with vegetables is expertly cooked, and the giblet salad is even better than pate. The Georgian wine selection is impressive, although it may take some time to decide due to the wide variety available. The service provided by the friendly staff is top-notch. Overall, this restaurant offers an excellent dining experience and should be commended for introducing Georgian cuisine to this town in such a courageous manner.
I want to thank this Georgian restaurant for the delicious food and for their honest and open stance on Russia's occupation of Georgia. It's rare to find a place that not only serves great cuisine but also stands firm in support of their country's values and history. The warm atmosphere and the Kindzmarauli wine brought back memories of my homeland, making the experience truly special.

Not a bad restaurant, has little in common with Georgian cuisine, khinkali are not Georgian at all😁the portion is very small... I really liked the corvina fish, I recommend trying it, and the side dish for the fish was simply wonderful! in the photo you will see "khinkali" people who love them and eat them know what they look like ☺️

What a delightful surprise. We were looking for an early dinner (like 18:00) and came across Geo Wine and Supra. We walked in without any idea of what to expect. Georgian wine (who knew?) and Portuguese/Georgian fusion tapas! Nice atmosphere, great soundtrack, and the service was very friendly. The server gave us tastes of three different Georgian wines so we could pick the one we liked. We ordered the cheese plate, bread (which came hot) and Croquette de Frango, but before those came we were served a small appetizer of pork cheeks, mushrooms and kimchi. Delicious. So much cheese. Great bread. And the croquette was incredible. Oh yeah, we’ll be back.

Wonderful food full of flavor! The pork chop with veggies was so perfectly prepared… Don’t be afraid of the gibblet salad, it is better than any pate. We also enjoyed the Georgian wine even though we had to try our way through the choices- Friendly service too! Delicious Experience 🤩 - Mood Lodging at Geo Restaurante Anyone who knows us knows that we love to travel, not only from experience, but we also love meeting people and trying new gastronomies. Georgia is undoubtedly a country that we really want to visitand yesterday we decided to anticipate our gastronomic experience and went to the Geo Restaurant in Caldas da Rainha. It was a magnificent experience, from the service to the quality of the food. We had the privilege of being served by Chef Archil Shinjikashvili, super professional and attentive, he shared his history, explained in detail each starter, each main dish, desserts and each Georgian wine (very interesting options too). The starters were Khinkluskas with hot sauce, Khachapuri and Ajapsandali with quail eggs. Khinkluscas is a dish that was inspired by the traditional Khinkalis, a Georgian dish produced by mountain herders. They consist of small pastries of fresh dough filled with minced meat, aromatic herbs and spices. Khachapuri is a pastry filled with cheese, considered one of Georgia's national delicacies. And finally Ajapsandali with quail eggs which is a vegetable stew inside an eggplant and culminating with quail eggs on top. As the main dish, we chose the Chef's recommendation, the Chicken because it is one of the main dishes that most resembles Georgian cuisine due to the sauce, which is really phenomenal. Georgian wines, as we did not know, the Chef brought 3 different ones to taste, all of the same caste, but with totally different palates. To finish in the best way, we chose the Chocolate Terrine, very very good !!! Thank you very much Archil, undoubtedly an experience to repeat...

CAIS DO PARQUE is a fantastic garden restaurant and bar located in Caldas da Rainha. The place offers a wide selection of delicious food, including vegetarian dishes and great signature cocktails. The view of the park from the restaurant is breathtaking, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal. The staff is known for their kindness and excellent service, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for visitors. While some recommend sticking to the burgers and Portuguese dishes, others have found Asian dishes not up to par.
Just a lovely place for lunch, dinner or a glass of wine. I had broiled codfish with potatoes and my wife had ribs. We split orders of fries and veggies. All was fantastic. In particular the fries were some of the best we have ever had. The service is friendly and happy to speak English. The ambiance with the view of the park completes the experience.

Delicious food and super nice staff. The codfish was very good after it went wrong the first time, and the veggies at the side tasted nice too. The Pad Thai with shrimp was also very good. For dessert we had the Violet Creme Brulèe, which was delicious. The violet aftertaste was very nice :) The staff was very sympathetic and made changes due to allergies without problem, and communicated well in English. They were fun to talk with and made it a fun and nice experience. The music is relaxing and gave it a relaxed atmosphere. If you just get a simple drink and a main dish, you could keep your amount under €20.

Went to Cais do Parque with a group of colleagues and we shared some starters and I had the risotto as main. I enjoyed it all and the ambiance was beautiful. There were 6 big shrimps in the risotto and it was very nice. I also tried the pad thai another evening, but it was leaning towards a pad see ew in my opinion. Good, but not what I expected. Unfortunately the desserts were a disappointment around the table. The brownie nor the cheesecake hit home and I would rather save my calories for a dessert somewhere else.

Fantastic spot – the food is delicious, there’s a wide and equally enjoyable selection of vegetarian dishes, great signature cocktails, awesome craft beers, and the view of the park is to die for. The waiters here are also extremely kind, up for a chat and speak English really well (though will practice Portuguese with you if you attempt it 😜). Definitely a must visit. In my sister’s words (who had the hamburger in the pictures): “this burger belongs on some type of UNESCO list of world heritage foods.”

We were two couples, after a lovely walk in the park we stopped for a drink out under the trees. Unfortunately, we were surrounded by smokers, after several glasses of wine, beers coffees, we decided to move. The waitress found us a table out front of the restaurant looking up under the trees, beautiful. The tables were very close together. We ordered our meals, starters and bottle of wine and the tables around us were smokers. Once again they were without ashtrays putting their cigarette butt's on the floor. We said to the waitress we are being again smoked out while outdoors. She offered us an inside table to escape. None of us wanted to go indoors, it was empty but for on table of people. So we stayed outside with one Woman's arm held behind herself with her cigarette inches from my seated husband. We all sighed saying that only smokers have the outside's park seats to themselves. Non-smokers indoors. All in all we were passed off, irritated and will not return. Such a shame to have been outdoors, though squeezed between tables of smoking customers. While we tried to eat our meals, enjoy our drinks, and talk in such a stunningly lovely place only to have it ruined. The four of us left disappointed and irritated at the seemingly simple solution to put smokers and ashtrays in the rustic park area.

We came just for coffee and a snack. The coffee was delicious, and the toast was tasty, though a bit too greasy. It was a pity that there were very few desserts — only a couple of options. I also think the prices were a bit on the higher side. However, the atmosphere was very beautiful and cozy. I still recommend visiting and enjoying the place! ☺️

A Ribatejana is a fantastic restaurant in Caldas, Portugal, known for its delicious traditional Portuguese cuisine. The cod dish they serve is exceptional and the portion sizes are generous. The attentive and friendly waitress provided excellent service. The value for money offered by this establishment is outstanding. Moreover, their homemade chocolate mousse is simply exquisite. This hidden gem offers an authentic taste of Portugal and is highly recommended to anyone visiting the region.
I think this has to be the best Portuguese restaurant in town. Delicious food, generous portions and most of all very reasonably priced. All staff are very friendly and welcoming. Sandra is fluent in English. Highly recommended. I can’t wait to go back. Obrigado.

Well this month, November, it will have been 10 years since we found this Portuguese gem, normally eating in on a Friday for the whole crab and getting a takeaway on a Sunday, many excellent choices that are great value for money, even my dog Zabba knows where we are going if I say "restaurant", " its that way " off now to get a takeaway as a change,

Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Solar dos Amigos, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to CCC - Centro Cultural e Congressos de Caldas da Rainha. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Portuguese restaurant
Solar dos Amigos is a historic restaurant located in the small village of Guisado, just a short drive from Caldas da Rainha. The establishment has been serving traditional Portuguese dishes for 48 years, with owner and chef Dona Luisa Nunes at the helm. Specialties include fried eels, rabbit stew, and codfish campino. The rustic restaurant features bullfighting decor and is a favorite lunch spot for many visitors.
Absolutely fantastic! Saturday lunch at its best. Food: at Solar dos Amigos was amazing — delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. Service was excellent too; the staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Atmosphere: quaint very typical Portuguese. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for a great meal and warm hospitality!

Quaint restaurant with a unique décor. The food is traditional Portuguese cuisine. The portions are massive, so always ask for advice before ordering. The cod fritters were delicious. There is a big selection of desserts as well. The restaurant is big but is very popular, so is advisable to reserve a table. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Dinner out in our little town in the Portuguese countryside. This little restaurant has been here 50 years and ranked most popular for travellers around the world. Now we know why! Thank you to Paula and Joanna for a great evening and owner Luisa for an unforgettable meal; topping it off with a shot of ginjinha 🍒

This restaurant is more of a destination but a lovely place to drop by. Feels like you are entering the home of a family member. You start by walking past the grill where you see and smell the amazing meats. The back patio is nice but be warned, there are lots of flies. The portions are large, for sharing. I loved the side dishes that are accompanied with your main courses. The spare ribs were succulent. Better, in my opinion, than the cod. Save room for nice desserts. Tip: Dog friendly indoors and outdoors!

We have been there several times before already. It is always a treat in terms of service, especially the ambitions people there and of course the owner itself. Yesterday we have been serviced by a hectic and very stressful lady, she was talking and serving so fast that everything felt like clearance. Also the reservation wasn’t booked in their books ( not the first time that the name couldn’t be found), and also the small things which tasted world class before were mediocre, the fries way too greasy. We will be back of course but the price is quite high for the region. Maybe they should focus more on quality of food and service instead of number of people to be cleared.

This is a great spot to gather family and friends for a feast of the best portuguese cuisine has to offer! Tradition is literally all over the walls of the restaurant, giving you a cosy and homy feeling. And the food.... my friends the food is the star of the show. D. Luisa manages the place with efficiency and kindness. All the staff was helpful and kind! Portions were huge, e ought to bring home for a second meal. Warm bread, and corn bread that was to die for. A huge selection of desserts, and at the end a complimentary licour with butter biscuits. We left absolutely full to the brim and ready for a nap! Thanks you and we will definitely see you again!

Nature preserve
National park
Reserva Natural Local do Paul de Tornada is a lovely nature reserve that provides a sense of being in the wild despite its proximity to urban areas. It serves as a connection between Caldas and Tornada and offers opportunities to observe various bird species, with the possibility of spotting mammals as well. The area may require more maintenance due to fallen trees and flooded paths, but it remains a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts.
This is a true hidden treasure for bird lovers! Bring binoculars and a good camera, because there is so much to see here. Truly glad that we went here. Hope it stays hidden because it would ruin it if too many people came here.
Joshua W — Google review
So good to be in a wild environment, yet within easy distance of Caldas da Rainha. The path was quite overgrown, but we walked round the whole reserve on 15th September 2025 in 1.5 hours without hurrying. The reserve staff were very pleasant and helpful. They apologised for the state of the path - they hadn't been able to use machinery due to the risk of fire. Saw osprey, grey heron, common waxbill etc and heard firecrest and Cetti's warbler.
Derek W — Google review
It's a beautiful piece of land but there's very little to see this time of year as it's been so dry. Still, for a quiet walk in nature it's beautiful.

Lovely place that lets you feel like you're in nature, even though it's in a relatively built up area connecting Caldas to Tornada. Depending on the season, you can see some pretty birds here, and there may be mammals, though I haven't seen any. Fallen trees and flooded paths do occur, could use more maintenance, but this is Portugal

We have been using this lovely little restaurant for over four years and enjoyed some fabulous meals, however our last two visits have been quite disappointing , the food being very basic and being very small portions compared to previous visits, I’m thinking it now has new owners. Restaurante O Cortiço is a nostalgic eating establishment that has maintained its quality and flavors since childhood. While not considered gourmet, the food is satisfying and their specialty, the boar, comes with an incredibly delectable sauce. It is advisable to arrive early due to its popularity, as it tends to be bustling by noon. Magnificent and photogenic! There is a large caravan park nearby. The sandy beach yields a generous catch for those who are keen to hunt for shell fish. Also popular with local fishing enthusiasts.

Fonte Luminosa is a roundabout in the city that serves as an entry point and experiences heavy traffic during rush hours. It features several cafes and restaurants nearby, making it a bustling area. The roundabout itself has a fountain with lights, which creates a beautiful sight at night. However, some visitors feel that the water fountain could be improved. Despite this, Fonte Luminosa offers good access and is within walking distance from various attractions in the city.
Entry point into the city, lots of motorized vehicles at rush hour, several cafes and restaurants nearby. The roundabout in the middle has a fountain with lights.

Nice looking roundabout when the water is running but the roundabout itself is horribly designed and doesn't help they most driver's don't use indicators or even the correct lane.

This is the first Portuguese building that was built with the purpose to be a museum. It has an exquisite collection of art, mainly paintings.

This museum was quite an unexpected positive surprise. Some very nice paintings, terracota sculptures and other pieces of art from the 19th and 20th Century. There’s José Malhoa, Bordalo Pinheiro, Abel Manta, and several other artists and it is well worth a visit. Free entry if you are a resident in Portugal with tax number.

A lovely little gallery well worth an hour to visit. It's offers a great insight into Portuguese art at the turn of the 20th century, particularly Naturalism, the work of Malhoa and his contemporaries. Also take time to wonder around the surrounding park which is dotted with sculptures.

We visited Fábrica bordalo as it has very nice ceramics product. In the main floor you can find very special pieces But on the second floor you have cheaper options for outlet products. We found some ceramics for a very nice price. The staff was also great and they give us stories about each ceramics. Worth to visit while we Are in Caldas de Rainha.

Even being Portuguese, I wasn't expecting to find such a variety of beautiful items. When you're there, you feel the temptation to buy original ceramics. My two friends bought several items but I was disappointed with the unfriendly staff. Not even a smile from the staff at the cashiers on the first and groundfloor.

We had the opportunity to attend a weekday mass in this charming church, located almost on the seafront—a serene and inspiring setting that invites reflection and inner peace. The service was welcoming and intimate, perfect for those seeking a moment of spirituality away from the tourist crowds. Guests rave about the exquisite presentation of dishes like shrimp served in traditional cabbage bowls from Caldas, making every meal a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.
This is a very new place. Just 3 weeks. People are frendly. Great food and service.

Today we visited this restaurant for the second time. The first time, the waiter was taught by his boss how to prepare a veal tartare, which my wife had ordered, at the table. The result was underwhelming (the picture speaks for itself) and my dish was also cold in the meantime. Today we gave the restaurant another chance. Our appetizer had just been placed on the table when the waiter came to tell us that our main course was already ready. When we told him that we hadn't had the chance to eat our appetizer yet, he just made our plates wait. Of course, our main course was cold when it was served again. When we refused, the waiter supposedly showed all understanding and said that our main course would be prepared again. The same plates were just quickly reheated in the kitchen again. Since the boss then went to chat at each table but ostentatiously skipped our table, we decided to just pay. We got a peppered bill with no apology and no coffee on the house. Too bad, Affinades has everything to be a good restaurant, they work with good products but clearly something always goes wrong. There will definitely not be a third attempt.

Nestled in a charming historic building near the vibrant Praça da Fruta, Pizzaria Dona Branca is a delightful culinary gem that has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The restaurant boasts an impressive selection of pizzas, each crafted with unique flavors and textures that tantalize the taste buds. Diners rave about the perfectly balanced combinations, featuring light sourdough crusts paired with savory cheeses and fresh ingredients—some even highlighting the unexpected yet magical touch of lemon.
Best Pizza I ever ate in Portugal. You can feel that the stuff loves their work... It almost seemed artistic how much love they put in each Pizza... Thank you very much! We will definitely come back! Obrigadaaaa e continua assim!

It must be one of the worst meals in my life... The pizza was burned and the tomato pasta was still liquid! The place had overall poor hygiene and the toilets were appaling. The standard of service was beyond appaling. Never in my life was I asked at a restaurant whether I wanted cutlery! Never again.
Tiago V — Google review
We always love our experience at Dona Branca. The pizzas are excellent with a beautiful sourdough crust and the right combination of yummy ingredients. They also have a good selection of wines, and my hubby loves cutting up the pizza with the provided scissors. They have a beautiful patio for sitting outside, and the inside has been beautifully restored. If you sit in the communal table inside, you can watch the pizzas being made. And the staff does an amazing job of making sure you have whatever you need. Finally, the desserts. The chocolate mousse with sea salt and pink peppercorns is the best chocolate mousse I've ever had. We've also tried the pudding, which is very good, as well. One drawback is that they are often out of choices on an already small menu, including the salad and 2 to 3 pizza options not being available during one visit. It's a place we return to all the time and take our guests when they are visiting. Highly recommend.

A great new addition to the dining scene in Caldas right off the praça da fruta. The pizzas we had were some of the best we've had in Caldas. Our server Bernardo was excellent and he obviously enjoys what he does. We got a table outside on the terrace which was very pleasant and quiet. We will be back!

We are slightly obsessed about great wood fired pizza places in our family. We have a personal list of "the best of the best", and I'm happy to say that Dona Branca is now on it. So, what's to like about this place? - It's has a wood fired oven. Check. - It has two great pizzaioli, who make a damned good pizza crust. - It has an excellent menu, some of them with unusual toppings - we tried the buffula and marmalade, which perhaps sounds weird, but it was brilliant. - It has a charming courtyard, where most of the seating is located. (There is indoor seating too, upstairs.) - There's a small team of waiters, and they are fabulous. They are attentive, friendly, and speak perfect English. (Necessary for us, as our Portuguese is rudimentary.) - The owner of the place also has a wonderful house on the far side of the courtyard that's used as a bar. It's only open some evenings, but the staff showed it to us and it is gorgeous. It's one of the nicest houses we've seen in Portugal. We didn't have a reservation, but we were there early enough that that wasn't a problem and the staff squeezed us in. You may want to reserve though, especially if you come later. Four thumbs up from us!
Michael B — Google review
I was excited to try Dona Branca as I have walked by many times. We went on a Saturday night and were greeted by an unfriendly young woman. The male waiter however was very friendly and suggested an appetizer, the small pizza dough sticks with a variety of sauces (delicious). We each ordered a different pizza. They were very good but on the smaller side considering the price. Unfortunately we were also served by the young woman who was rude and unpleasant. She seemed miserable and unhappy whenever she approached our table. Basic pleasantries and a smile go a long way. Staff of an establishment is just as important as its food quality in my opinion.

We arrived later then expected and we still could eat there although they closed at 15:00. Bothe the kitchen and us did our best to keep the tempo a bit up. Together we managed to finish a 3 course meal at exactly 15:00. So my compliments for the service and the hard work. Besides that the food was good too. Nice pickles tray with pappadums. The Dal soup was okay. The Tikka masala was very tasteful with tender chicken. The saag paneer was also smooth but a little flat, some more herbs would be better. I loved the Mango lassi. They also made a nice sangria espumante (I know it's not Indian). We enjoyed our meal and the price was also good.
