Shopping
Cwmbran Centre is a sizable indoor mall that offers a wide range of high-street shops, department stores, and food outlets. It also features Newports Weird Dad Brewery Tap, owned by Cwmbran resident Lee Dunning. The center is easily accessible by public transport and offers several supermarkets, dining options, and popular clothing stores like Roman Originals and Bonmarche. Visitors appreciate the cleanliness, safety, and amenities such as clean toilets and regular bus service.
Cwmbran Shopping Centre is a vibrant place to shop and hang out! With a wide range of stores, from popular high street brands to unique independent shops, there's something for everyone. The layout is easy to navigate, making it simple to find what you need. The food court offers a variety of dining options, so you can grab a quick bite or enjoy a sit-down meal. Plus, the atmosphere is always lively, especially on weekends when it gets busier. Parking is generally convenient, and the centre is well-maintained, which adds to the overall pleasant experience. There are often events and activities happening, making it a fun place to visit for families. If you're looking for a day out with shopping and dining, Cwmbran Shopping Centre is definitely worth a visit!

Really big shopping mall. Once parked and inside, it is huge, with all the usual high street shops - and a choice of cafes and market stalls as well.
George T — Google review
What a great town to visit, they have free to park for 3 hours, unlike some council run towns who overcharge the people that they want to visit & shop just to park! Plus Cwmbran actually have shops in their town! A good selection of shops in a well covered centre for those miserable cold wet days. There are also many coffee shops & places to stop for lunch, so make it a place to visit, shop & dine, in my opinion its worth a visit.
Wayne W — Google review
Cwmbran shopping is really the best shopping center you've ever seen..to take a line from an 80s radio jingle. Mostly undercover and ample free parking. Big name stores although maybe too many coffee shops, vape shops and mobile phone repair outlets. Much better than Newport a few miles away which has nothing. People come from the valley, the shire and even England to shop in Cwmbran.
Brian T — Google review
Everything you need and close together, from parking under neath the shopping centre and lifts to your shops of your choice. Great cafes /restaurants ideal day out for retail therapy.
Terry G — Google review
Tidy shopping centre. Good range of shops and a few charity shops. Burger King and McDonald's. Asda car park is the best as the shopping centre car park, although free, is a bit of a labyrinth. I liked it.
Wendy B — Google review
Just love the variety of shops all you can want really. Plus free parking.
Jan F — Google review
Decent selection of shops to keep you busy for quite some time, shame some are closed down but that's retail in general This is one of the few retail centres that has a thriving area

Cwmbran Stadium is a family-friendly facility with a Soft Play area that received positive feedback for its helpful and friendly staff. The place offers various sports facilities and has been described as fantastic by enthusiasts. However, there are some concerns about the car park's condition and lighting during winter months. While the swimming pool's temperature received mixed reviews, the go play area could use better monitoring to ensure cleanliness. Visitors also suggested expanding the cafe menu to include more meal options for both kids and adults.
Good soft play and decent little cafe. Plenty of parking and you can talk a stroll down the canal if you need a bit of fresh air.

I've had a horrible experience few days back when i took my son for his swimming class and when it was time to shower before swim, there was a grown man taking shower fully naked and with everything fully up. That was a horrible experience with a kid, how can we expect our kids to take shower in a place like that I immediately walked out. Proper and appropriate rules should've been put in place to begin with.
Ishan S — Google review
The soft play is great. However, they need to stop all the big kids from taking out all the toys from the toddler section. So many toddlers today had nothing to play with as the bigger kids took over the section and eventually took all the toys out so they couldn't reach them.
Rhys J — Google review
great little arena for both adult exercise classes and the facilities seemed good
Hayley H — Google review
Inside the venue is good, but it's a shame the stadium has been condemned, spend the money and make it a nice arena to play sports, could be brilliant
Ryan W — Google review
My wife and myself took our 6 year old grandson to Cwmbran Stadium essentially to use the Soft Play facility. Staff at reception helpful and friendly, lady in Soft Play are serving drinks and snacks was excellent. Not to expensive, coffee was as normal in terms of price, snacks a bit expensive, but still fine with us. Soft Play are really quite nice and appeared very safe. I really wanted to use the facility myself, but at 69 my wife said no. Take away all my fun. Anyway we all enjoyed our time there and our grand son had some fun. Parking was also easy. Will go back.
John J — Google review
My kids loved the soft play area. Only thing that ruined the trip was the 20 minutes it took to get served at the cafe. It was too busy for just one person at the till.. Will bring drinks from home in future.

I wasn't thinking I could take the new phone now, got Lauren helped me to make it all work and I was so excited to walk out with a new phone. This phone will now greatly assist me in my new job as a delivery driver. Thanks Lauren

Friars walk is a good place but the surrounding area spoils it some decent shops and places to eat. Not like the old in-shops and with the leisure centre gone seems like newport has seen its best days unfortunately

Lovely little shopping centre close to the high street. Parking is very busy however lots of disabled parking bays available. Lift up to the shopping quarter and lots of toilets around the vicinity. Could definitely do with more brand names in the shops to drive more people in as there are so many independent shops
Jasmine X — Google review
Lots of eating places here. Sadly Cineworld has shut which was disappointing...and there is a Next and New Look and River Island. The University campus is on the other side of the road. However. not sure where all the customers are meant to be coming from...hardly the demographic as far as I could see...as usual the KFC is shocking in terms of service standards and hygiene...and of course there is the incredibly run down shopping centre adjoining it..and no public toilets to be seen...and very weird access to ridiculous steps and inadequate lifts...would like to come back in couple of years to see what state it is all in....

Nestled on the eastern border of Torfaen and Monmouthshire, Llandegfedd Lake Visitor & Activity Centre is a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts. This stunning reservoir offers a plethora of activities both in and around its shimmering waters. Thrill-seekers can dive into an array of watersports such as sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, and powerboating—all facilitated by the well-equipped Watersports Centre where you can easily rent gear.
Came here on the weekend. This place is amazing. There is a huge lake with trails you can walk around it. Each trail had its own estimated duration of how long it will take you to walk them. The lake has a cafe and also has a watersport centre with different acitives to do, such as canoeing, windsurfing, kayaking, etc. There are acitives that many people can enjoy there, individuals, couples, and/or families. They even offer fishing as an activity, which is a plus for anyone who loves relaxing and having a quiet activity to participate in. Parking is chargable with there being a car park nearby and an area to park as you head into the visitor centre. Parking is free for the first hour, then £3 for the day. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a nice relaxing time and walk.

Great place to spend the day at! Make it a high energy day out or a place for a relaxing day. Either take part in one of the many sports on offer, on and off the reservoir, from sailing to mountain biking or just take a walk around taking in the sights along one of the many trails, enjoying the wildlife at the bird huts or in the meadows surrounding the reservoir. Just be sure you end up in the restaurant hosting great views and a good selection of refreshments and food choices. Perfect for getting the mountain bike out and making the loop around along the single tracks from water side to the hills surrounding giving great views. Plenty of history in the visitors centre and available from the lovely staff on site. Great for kids and adults. £3 parking all day or FREE for the first 60mins

Always a nice cafe to visit with friendly staff and a range of snacks, meals and treats. The views are lovely pretty much whatever the weather and the walking trail around the reservoir is a good one - although a large section is shut during the winter months due to certain birds breeding. Always worth a visit if you're in the area.

Thank you to the entire team on 1/6/25. Every single one of you made our day amazing! I came down with 8 niblings makes 9 of us, for kayaking the team put our safety first and also suggested a pivot to canoeing when the wind was just not good for us. I'm in awe honestly they loved the time out we had as first timers on the lake. I will be back what an amazing team!!!!
Shezadi — Google review
Plenty of parking and the first hour is free, there's even a sign that suggests why not park up and if when you return to your car, if it's been longer than an hour, pay then, I guess as there is only 1 cost of £3. APNR works here so I guess they will fine people for not paying. Payment is via App, or card at a machine or visitor centre. Visitor centre had some lovely food, fair prices, we only had a corn beef pasty today. Water sports centre had a few children doing activities, it all looked good, with kayak hire, paddle board, and much more. We did a walk today. 4 walks are advertised, from 1 hrs all the way to 4 hrs, if you want to walk around the entire reservoir 6 miles or 10Km if you fancy it, we did the red 4 miles north walk and back today. Good paths around the place, will definitely go again for the walk around the reservoir.
Tony E — Google review
Great place for watersports! Only 45 minutez from our campsite nr Ross-on-Wye. Will definitely be recommending to the guests staying with us. We went with another family (8 on water) and we all enjoyed our paddleboard and kayak session. Would have loved more swimming but a little limiting with 30 mins splash sessions only not just 'open'. But loved our tome here. Going back again this week! Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and just fab place. Good facilities with showers etc. Great options for walks and lovely picnic area too. A decent cafe with great views, very good coffee and nice cakes incl GF too ... bonus! ( I would say it would benefit being open a bit longer for lunch/food in line with afternoon session finishing 2:45pm, perhaps till 3:30 not 3pm, it would give people time to change and still grab some food.)
Rye F — Google review
Such a beautiful place! We stopped here for a coffee so didn’t try the food, though it did look amazing! I will definitely be back with my dogs and spend a bit longer here

Fast food restaurant
KFC, the beloved restaurant chain famous for its iconic buckets of fried chicken, offers a delightful array of combo meals and sides that cater to every craving. During a recent visit to KFC in Cwmbran, I was impressed by the exceptional service provided by the staff, particularly a young man named Lewie. Despite the bustling atmosphere and some unruly customers, he maintained his professionalism and friendliness throughout my experience. His willingness to assist with my order modifications showcased his dedication to customer satisfaction.
I had an amazing experience at KFC thanks to Lewie Farmer. The service was extremely good—friendly, fast, and professional from start to finish. Lewie went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect with my order and greeted every customer with a genuine smile and great energy. It’s rare to see that level of customer care these days, and Lewie truly stood out. KFC is lucky to have someone like him on the team. Keep up the great work!
Dewi G — Google review
I ordered a 14-piece Original Recipe chicken through the KFC app at 16:20, checked in at 17:35, and only received my food at 17:45. The whole experience was extremely disappointing. First, the app is misleading. It warns against checking in before entering the shop (or risk no refund), yet when I asked inside, I was told food is only prepared after I arrive on the premises. That makes ordering ahead pointless. Why have an app if it doesn’t save time? It feels like a corporate gimmick rather than a genuine service. Second, there was no order display system to let me know if my food was being prepared. I had to wait in a crowded shop for over several minutes, which defeats the purpose of “order & collect.” Finally, the packaging was shockingly poor. My 14 pieces were handed to me in flimsy paper pouches instead of a proper bucket. For a paid order, this felt careless and disrespectful. I didn’t pay to be treated like I was receiving food aid — I expected proper packaging and service. This experience reinforced why I avoid large chains like KFC: impersonal, inefficient, and dismissive of customers’ time. Unless significant improvements are made, I won’t be returning. And as a Level 7 Local Guide, I’ll be sharing this experience honestly for others to consider before ordering.

I have not long left Cwmbran KFC and the service I received was just lovely. I ordered on the self service machines but needed to add to an order. I went to the counter and spoke to a young man named Lewie. He was very helpful and assisted me with adding to my order and ensured that the added items arrived along with the self service order. He asked if there is anything else he could help with which was nice. A polite and helpful young man. Will return soon

Lewie was very helpful and provided a speedy service with an outstanding smile. He gave me multiple menu recommendations, highlighting the pure delight that is the zinger tower burger. It was so very delicious. The store was spotlessly clean and i simply cannot wait to be back! Well done Lewie!

Lovely service today from a boy named Lewie. He was very helpful with the menu and my order came very quickly. The food was fresh and everything was exactly as I ordered it, and the restaurant was nice and clean. Would definitely come back again, especially if all the service is like lewie’s.

Just popped in with my Grandad and wanted to express my gratitude for the staff there today. It was quite busy and there were only two people serving when a group of kids came into the shop and acted in a disgusting manner. They were rude to the staff, messy and very foul mouthed. The staff were lovely and accommodating to them even when the kids were being so disrespectful. I wanted to pass on the message in hopes that the staff get the recognition they truly deserve :)
Merry H — Google review
I’ve come here a couple of times and the food is reliably good, hot and fresh. What made the most recent visit was the service. Muna on the front counter was very friendly and efficient. She got my order correct and was patient when I had a couple of questions.
Anish P — Google review
The food was very tasty, especially the chicken that was cooked to perfection. The fries were crispy and well-seasoned, which complemented the chicken perfectly. I appreciated the friendly service provided during my visit. Arsalan was very attentive and ensured I had everything I needed. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience.

I visited here the first time with my dad and my dog. The lady that served us was lovely, friendly and very inviting. She made us feel very welcome and took time to make a fuss of my dog, which he loved. Without asking she brought a water bowl to the table for my dog. The coffee was lovely and the brownie was amazing. With this service and great food we will be back! Dogs aren't allowed in the shop, but seating outside on benches was more than fine.

Without a doubt the best place to eat in Cwmbran! Me and my partner absolutely love this place. Their breakfast is always fantastic and we used to LOVE their evening menu. They do the best burgers in Cwmbran by far, it’s a must try. I’m quite fussy with beef burgers and my partner is the opposite, he loves them and has tried them from everywhere. We both think this is definitely the best place for a burger. I could eat here everyday if I could, absolutely love it. Their Camembert burger is something special 😍😍 I usually have their steak and eggs for breakfast which is incredible and their steak is amazing quality. Highly highly highly recommend ❤️

I’ve been wanting to try this place for so long and it didn’t disappoint! The festive menu was incredible. Chips are delicious! The orange hot chocolate was immense. The only downside is the price is rather expensive even for how good it is, absolutely great food but unfortunately more of a one off treat rather than a local weekly cafe stop. Absolutely recommend tho! :)

We couldn’t have been more delighted with my birthday buffet party at the Upper Cocks yesterday. Everything was perfect and everyone enjoyed themselves so much. Mani and her staff did us proud and making arrangements with them was very easy. The food was delicious, very fresh, a great variety, including a lot of spicy food at my request, and there was so much of it. The price was very reasonable. The staff were delightful and the room lovely. The Upper Cocks is a big asset to the community. My friends and I shall be eating there frequently.

The Three Blackbirds Inn is a cozy and welcoming spot that offers a warm atmosphere for families and individuals alike. While some visitors have noticed minor cleanliness issues, others have praised the friendly staff and excellent customer service. The Sunday lunch has received particular acclaim, with guests enjoying the delicious food and feeling at ease throughout their visit. Overall, it's a place where you can enjoy a relaxed meal and pleasant conversation in a comfortable setting.
After school meals with my 2 grandsons booked at 4pm on a 40% off Mains (with Reward app) from today until Thursday. Not too many to our left on entry & 2/ 3 tables occupied inside in main area. Approx 10/15 minutes after arrival i ordered our food - Chick n Mix, Steak & Chicken Combo & Hunters Chicken + 3 pints Blackcurrant Squash. Approx 30/40 mins later our food was served from which the fries mushrooms had to be replaced along with the chips on the Hunters Chicken meal as they were cold. I tried my Peas & they too were cold but I didn't bother reporting it. The couple on the table adjacent to us also had to have their fries replaced as they were cold. Did they have enough kitchen staff??? Who knows but on the 5 meals I was aware of, food was served cold. My youngest grandson had "piping hot food" so he was happy. Hopefully any issues they had today will be resolved as I am there tomorrow with a friend, hopefully dining on hot food. Staff as always, very friendly & obliging (hopefully more kitchen staff available tomorrow)

Came in on the off chance, was able to be seated no problem. We had a mix of sizzling and normal plate food, all amazing and fantastic value for your money. Staff was very happy to help Jess was brilliant with us. Will definitely be seeing us regularly.

My partner, our five-year-old child, and I visited this restaurant specifically for the carvery, and the experience was deeply disappointing and stressful. We were quoted a reasonable 20-minute wait when we placed our order. We were happy to accept this, but what followed was an unacceptable one-hour wait. During this time, the waitress repeatedly assured us it "wouldn't be long," which was particularly frustrating as we had a child to manage. To make matters worse, we noticed that multiple tables that arrived and ordered well after us were called up to receive their food while our five-year-old and we continued to wait. After an hour, I asked for an update and was told there were still three tables ahead of us. At this point, I requested to cancel the order and receive a refund. Only then were we immediately told we could go next to get our food. While we were finally being served, a member of management repeatedly questioned me about how I had placed the order. This strongly suggested that they had lost our order and were scrambling to correct their internal error rather than genuinely prioritising us due to the extremely long wait and the fact we had a child waiting. The entire experience was frustrating, disorganised, and showed a clear lack of respect for our time, especially when dealing with families.

Visited the Three Blackbirds today for a Sunday roast. The carvery was delicious and a good portion size. The staff were are friendly and accommodating, especially Claire who couldn't do enough to make our experience the best possible. The children enjoyed their meals, especially the build your own ice cream dessert. We will definitely be back.

Travelled from Essex to visit family, and the pub was recommended as a place for dinner. Booking was easy, and upon arrival was shown to our table immediately. Food order was easy using the on table QR code, and other than a rough hours wait, due to other orders, it arrived with apologies, and was very well presented and flavoursome. I had the mixed grill with a Sirloin upgrade and was cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere, spacious and friendly. Worth a try!

We visited a few weeks back for a meal for my birthday. It was busy, but food arrived in decent time. Very reasonably priced, and the children's meal offer is a very reasonable price and they actually ate it. The adults loved their meals, and dessert was delicious I was told. Would definitely go again!

Myself and 2 friends went on a Friday evening on the off chance to get some food. We were in luck, 1 table was free. We ordered drinks and food via the QR code on the table. Drinks were bought quickly and the food was absolutely amazing! I had a sizzling tandoori platter and highly recommend this. I haven’t been to the blackbirds in quite some time but will definitely be visit again. Thank you.
