Crich Tramway Village, also known as the National Tramway Museum, is a meticulously restored period village featuring historic facades and a remarkable collection of over 60 vintage trams dating from 1873 to 1982. Visitors can step aboard these beautifully preserved trams and explore the recreated village, complete with a working pub, cafe, sweetshop, and tram depots.
Crich Tramway Village is an absolute delight for all ages! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the warmest and most helpful staff and volunteers who clearly love what they do. Their passion and friendliness truly made the day extra special. The whole experience is beautifully nostalgic, like stepping back in time. Riding the vintage trams through the scenic countryside is both relaxing and fascinating. The recreated period street, old-style sweet shops, exhibitions, and woodland walk make it a full day out, rain or shine! One of the best surprises? Free parking and the fact that a full-price ticket gives you unlimited return visits for a whole year! That’s incredible value for money — we’ll definitely be coming back again (and again)! Whether you’re into history, transport, or just looking for a fun and peaceful family day out, Crich Tramway Village is a must-visit. Highly recommended! THERE IS A SOFT PLAY AREA AND OUTDOOR PLAY AREA FOR CHILDREN !! NO ONE WILL FEEL BOARD HERE

Totally surprised myself by how interesting I found this! These are beautiful to look and watch as they go past. Such a shame that we don't use these anymore! There was plenty to do and see. The woodland walks with the wooden sculptures were great! We loved the wooden potato head! We all enjoyed the Tram ride through the village! Great day out!
Becky — Google review
A lovely day out for the enthusiast. We had three trams running on our visit and was able to ride on them with ease. The other attractions, such as the Woodland walk was a pleasant activity. The tram museum is very informative with a good collection of trams and their history. There are plenty of places to sit down but I would recommend bringing your own food/picnic as the small on site cafe has very limited table accommodation inside.
Matt B — Google review
What a great day we had, it's steam punk weekend here, and decided to go along to find out what it was like. £25 per adult but free to come back within 12 months. Blast from the past as you walk down to the recreation of tram life with the extra of alot of people dressed up in their desired steam punk outfits. Great to see them all. So much to see with the history of trams, and the woodland walk is a must, we really enjoyed this part. Cant wait to go back again.
Pete S — Google review
I last visited here as a child, so was nice to return as an adult. I have also done videos on my Youtube channel - @karlsmith25, so take a look. Enjoyed the 2 tram rides, and also the ticket is well worth the money as you can return free of charge during the 12 months its valid for. Will definitely return in 2026.
Karl S — Google review
A lovely day out . We had spent the weekend in Matlock Bath. A truly lovely place to visit. The tramway village is only approximately 6miles away. It's like stepping back in time . Along with many trams on display, there are some you travel on along a track. An old fashioned sweetshop and pub . There's a cafe serving food . Sadly the country walk got to by the tram was closed due to the bad weather. Tickets are valid for 12 months so hopefully will go back in the summer months
Suzy S — Google review
Great day out. A big part of family holidays when I was a child was riding the trams at Blackpool along the seafront. Seeing a couple of these at the museum brought back some very happy memories. My parents would have rode on trams like some of these when they were young. It’s fantastic to see so many all in one place and all so well preserved. I love this sort of place. It’s so amazing that people had the foresight to save these items, be they trams or trains or buses, vintage cars, old buildings. They deserve our full support. Will definitely pay another visit.
Kevin B — Google review
Highly recommend a visit here. Visited as a family and enjoyed by all. The staff were great, plenty to explore. Tram rides are brilliant for the trail up to the top or just for a return ride. The gift shop and sweet shop offer treats for reasonable prices. Great value entry and automatically gives you a years pass to return.

Cromford Canal, located in the Derwent Valley Mills, was constructed in 1794 to facilitate transportation of coal and limestone for the iron industry. Extending over 14.5 miles, its southern end serves as a local nature reserve that provides sanctuary for endangered species such as grass snakes and water voles. The canal is a sought-after destination for British canoeing; however, access is limited due to the nature reserve's protection efforts.
Incredibly beautiful walk. This ( April - May ) is our favourite time with spring flowers coming out, so much wildlife around every bend. At this time, the canal banks have only reached ankle high so you can see into the mostly clear water. Between Whatstanwell and Ambergate is the most peaceful once you've aclimatized to the sound of the traffic passing on the nearby A6. Leawood Pump house is well worth a visit, especially on an open day with steam up and running. With each stroke pumping 4 tons (800 gallons) of water, from the River Derwent up into the canal.
Phil D — Google review
Love this place. Especially on summer evenings when it is quiet. Long towpath from Cromford village to Ambergate via High Peak junction and Whatstandwell. Easy level path to walk, with pushchair or wheelchair. Occasional benches to sit and stare. Lots of wildlife to enjoy: water voles, grebes, swans, kingfishers, fish, dragonflies and even swimming grass snakes - see video!
Jane R — Google review
Took a lovely walk along the towpath of the Cromford canal today. The surroundings are beautiful. The wildlife is plentiful. It as a lot of history..It really is a pleasing walk, with seats now and again along the way. There is a medium sized car park. The only thing i would say against it is dont go on a sunny weekend as the only walkway is the canal towpath and it gets very congested , especially for pushchairs etc..I went on a wednesday in March, saw approx 20 people...However it is a wonderful walk and i mark it 4 stars...will go again in midweek for sure...

Parked just opposite Arkwright's till (sorry, Mill). Parking fees pretty reasonable. More parking down the road. Cromford Wharf is very picture esq ewe. Wheatcrofts (?) Cafe is very good too. Really nice walk up to High Peak crossing, which is also nice, and plenty of other stuff around which also seems 'nice'. Lovely 😉 Highly recommended 👌 👍 👏

Nice flat walk. Discover nature. Coffee shop and cafe at the wharf. Easy parking, however pay and display. Dog friendly.

Great place for a nice relaxing walk. Note that Google maps will take you to the wrong place!. Park in the car park opposite Cromford Mills. This car park is more convenient and cheaper than Cromford Mills car park

Didn't even know this place was here till a couple of wks ago, something for everyone a lovely walk along the canal, so great views and lovely wildlife

Always good for a steady walk not too exhaustive as no hills, usually good for viewing wildlife.

The Heage Windmill is a historical tourist attraction located in between Belper and Ripley, in North Yorkshire. It is the only working six-sailed stone tower windmill in England, and visitors can take a guided tour around the mill to learn about its history and how it works. During the tour, you can also purchase some flour!
Absolutely lovely 6 sail, fully restored working windmill! Brilliantly run by enthusiastic, and very lovely, volunteers. Well worth a visit - whether you were a Windy Miller fan, or not! Fascinating.
Julia B — Google review
This is an absolute gem of a place run by incredible volunteers who are passionate about what they do. The tour is £6 per adult and is the perfect legnth. There is a lovely place to sit for a picnic and you can pick up ice cream from the shop. The windmill is working and clearly maintained with love and great care; they mill and sell flour here too. Essential visit.

Absolutely fantastic tour of an amazing engineering piece of history. We learnt so much, the tour guide was probably the best guide I have ever experienced, presenting the history so well, and extremely good communication skills. Could definitely recommend to anyone, superb!!
Dave F — Google review
Can’t believe this is practically on my door step. Brilliant place to visit and take a picnic. Staff are extremely welcoming and paid for a tour. Highly recommended, hope the windmill is there for many years to come for people to enjoy.
Tracey B — Google review
Gorgeous little gem, set back from the road down a winding track. The only 6-sailed, stone built windmill in the UK Open most weekends over the summer & Bank Holidays, they sometimes have special events. Free car-parking. Small cost for guided tour of the windmill. Stunning views over the valley. Worth a visit.
Elaine W — Google review
My first visit. Beautiful day today which made the visit even better. Spectacular views over countryside. Lovely guided tour and opportunity to walk around inside including up staircases to almond the top of your windmill. A shop is available for souvenirs, toilet facilities are available along with hot and cold drinks and a few snacks. However they don't provide lunches etc. all staff are friendly and very helpful and can't help enough.
Gail W — Google review
I went to see both the Windmill and the Tractor Rally there. I'll be visiting the Windmill (which was turning during the Rally) again very soon.
Peter S — Google review
Visited for a car show and found that you could have a tour of the windmill. £16 for a family of 5. Guides were very knowledgeable and it was a wonderful experience. My 8 year old loved it! Small shop selling flour, ice cream and souvenirs and a used book shelf with books for a small donation.

Garden
Beaurepaire Garden is a charming little haven located in Belper, just a short walk from the town center. Visitors have described it as a beautiful and pleasant place to stroll through, with its small size adding to its allure. The garden features a train track running through it, making it an especially delightful spot for families with children. Despite occasional flooding, the love and care put into maintaining this lovely park are evident, making it well worth a visit for anyone passing through the area.
A beautiful small garden , that's a ten minute walk from the town centre for the brisk walker . This garden is a quiet haven and is a great place for adults and children alike , it has many features that are quirky and eclectic and I'm sure that children would enjoy the experience as it would inspire there imagination with it's mix of little statues and treasures that have been donated by the local community and the grounds caretakers , who truly have created a little bit of magic here in belper . The garden has many tributes to loved ones who have sadly passed , and some families have donated a feature of remembrance , which may i add are not solemn but often light-hearted and all add to the magical atmosphere of this beautiful place . The garden is free to enter and it's upkeep is maintained by a local caretaker and a small team of helpers who work unpaid , so if you have a donation to it's upkeep it would be greatly appreciated to help maintain the project . The garden has quite a historical past and it's origins hail way back to the industrial revolution years as it was a former allotment to the strutt family residence and also has links to a Roman past , but now it's purpose is a community park . Please may I add that although there are plenty of bench style seats available for a picnic or a peaceful rest here , the grounds may be a bit of a challenge for the less mobile , but the front gate is wheelchair friendly so it's easier , as the side entrance would be a struggle with it's steps so best avoided , the grounds are partially paved so you should be ok with your mobility chair or pram if you have children and all the garden's features can be seen from it's pathway , so I'm sure should you visit you will enjoy it's peaceful and relaxing magical charm , not the biggest of gardens , but always a surprise around every corner that has been created with the biggest of hearts from the local community . WELL WORTH A VISIT !! When in the belper area .

First time I've discovered this beautiful little haven in Belper. It truly is gorgeous, I'm looking forward to going back and taking the children to see it, we'd love to see the trains running. There is clearly so much love and meaning throughout the garden; it is adorable. Thank you.

Quirky. Worth a quick visit, very small area can be walked round in minutes. Pity hardly any of the water features nor the train were running.

Guests can savor exquisite dishes crafted with care while enjoying the warm ambiance and attentive service. Excellent quality food, freshly prepared & the flavours are delicious. Exceptional service and staff, who want you to have a good time, very knowledgeable about the menu , allergies etc. Portion sizes were good value for money. There are some stairs inside & I'm unsure if they have a area for people with disabilities, a phone call would be best. A piece of Italy in Belper, nice rustic interior.

Fabulous 80th Birthday meal for my Mum. Lovely food, friendly staff, and a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff even sang happy birthday for Mum, and lit a candle in her dessert. We’ve eaten at Armando’s 3 or 4 times now. The food and service have always been consistently excellent. Thank you. Keep up the great work!

We recently had a wake at this pub. Not what you expect to read about on a review, but it's something we all have to deal with at some point in our lives. Anyway, the staff and the venue were fabulous. The food was wonderful, everyone complimented it. It was a lovely sunny day, so some got to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Less convinced by the guy/s running the place unfortunately but can't be doing everything wrong as overall it was a nice place with good food and very friendly hard working people doing the actual work. Nice experience - thank you

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Black Boy Inn. Our room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed, air conditioning, coffee making equipment and the kind of bath towels you’d expect in a five star hotel. The proprietors, Dave and Angie, and their employees were outstanding - very service oriented, efficient and kind. The food was very good. We had one dinner and two breakfasts here. Everything was fresh and tasty. If we’re ever back in the area we will definitely stay here again.

Anila is a fantastic Indian restaurant located just outside of Belper, where the ambiance truly sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere is enhanced by perfectly dimmed lighting, creating a cozy and stylish environment. Guests are greeted with warm smiles from friendly staff who go above and beyond to ensure everyone feels welcome. The food at Anila is nothing short of exceptional; each dish is freshly prepared using high-quality ingredients that burst with flavor.
Me and my family went tonight and let me tell you that the atmosphere was amazing, with the lights dimmed just right. The waiters were welcoming and really friendly . The food was excellent, arrived quickly, and each course was perfectly timed. The strawberry mocktail was sweet and delicious. The food is amazing, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect. They really go out of their way to make customers feel welcome. The owner also went out of his way to make sure that we were Happy and content which was really appreciated by us all and also picked the starters for us as we were a bit indecisive lol (by the way he has really good taste as the starters were out of this world!!). Would definitely recommend and for sure coming back 🫶🏼

Fantastic Indian Restaurant on the outside of Belper. Nice relaxed and stylish layout and very friendly staff. All our food was freshly prepared with quality ingredients and we were very pleased with our choices. Our waiter inquired how we enjoyed our food and also brought us a piece of cake after we had finished. No alcohol license but this did not matter at all and you are welcome to bring your own wine if you wish. Highly recommended 👏

Amazing service. Incredible food. The food was impeccable and was served quickly and each course served in perfect time. I personally loved the onion bhaji was the perfect texture and so crispy and seasoned to perfection. The strawberry mocktail was so sweet and so delicious. Would definitely visit again
