Crich Tramway Village, also known as the National Tramway Museum, is a meticulously restored period village featuring historic facades and a remarkable collection of over 60 vintage trams dating from 1873 to 1982. Visitors can step aboard these beautifully preserved trams and explore the recreated village, complete with a working pub, cafe, sweetshop, and tram depots.
Crich Tramway Village is an absolute delight for all ages! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the warmest and most helpful staff and volunteers who clearly love what they do. Their passion and friendliness truly made the day extra special. The whole experience is beautifully nostalgic, like stepping back in time. Riding the vintage trams through the scenic countryside is both relaxing and fascinating. The recreated period street, old-style sweet shops, exhibitions, and woodland walk make it a full day out, rain or shine! One of the best surprises? Free parking and the fact that a full-price ticket gives you unlimited return visits for a whole year! That’s incredible value for money — we’ll definitely be coming back again (and again)! Whether you’re into history, transport, or just looking for a fun and peaceful family day out, Crich Tramway Village is a must-visit. Highly recommended! THERE IS A SOFT PLAY AREA AND OUTDOOR PLAY AREA FOR CHILDREN !! NO ONE WILL FEEL BOARD HERE

Totally surprised myself by how interesting I found this! These are beautiful to look and watch as they go past. Such a shame that we don't use these anymore! There was plenty to do and see. The woodland walks with the wooden sculptures were great! We loved the wooden potato head! We all enjoyed the Tram ride through the village! Great day out!
Becky — Google review
A lovely day out for the enthusiast. We had three trams running on our visit and was able to ride on them with ease. The other attractions, such as the Woodland walk was a pleasant activity. The tram museum is very informative with a good collection of trams and their history. There are plenty of places to sit down but I would recommend bringing your own food/picnic as the small on site cafe has very limited table accommodation inside.

What a great day we had, it's steam punk weekend here, and decided to go along to find out what it was like. £25 per adult but free to come back within 12 months. Blast from the past as you walk down to the recreation of tram life with the extra of alot of people dressed up in their desired steam punk outfits. Great to see them all. So much to see with the history of trams, and the woodland walk is a must, we really enjoyed this part. Cant wait to go back again.

A lovely day out . We had spent the weekend in Matlock Bath. A truly lovely place to visit. The tramway village is only approximately 6miles away. It's like stepping back in time . Along with many trams on display, there are some you travel on along a track. An old fashioned sweetshop and pub . There's a cafe serving food . Sadly the country walk got to by the tram was closed due to the bad weather. Tickets are valid for 12 months so hopefully will go back in the summer months
Suzy S — Google review
Great day out. A big part of family holidays when I was a child was riding the trams at Blackpool along the seafront. Seeing a couple of these at the museum brought back some very happy memories. My parents would have rode on trams like some of these when they were young. It’s fantastic to see so many all in one place and all so well preserved. I love this sort of place. It’s so amazing that people had the foresight to save these items, be they trams or trains or buses, vintage cars, old buildings. They deserve our full support. Will definitely pay another visit.
Kevin B — Google review
Visiting the Peak District, on a wet autumn day with a dog, we went to look around this museum, as much of it is indoors. We took a tram ride - included with the entry, and dog was allowed on the lower floor of the tram - looked around the old sweet shop, various sheds and the workshop, then to the pub... then we wandered the woodland walks. An enjoyable afternoon, with very friendly & helpful staff. We thought the price (£25 each for 2 adults) steep, it does allow re-entry for 12 months, but that only works if you live locally to be able to go back within that timescale.
Bryony H — Google review
Fantastic place to visit and spend the day. I can throughly recommend Crich Tramway Village for a fantastic experience. The place is staffed by very friendly people and they are all very helpful and welcoming. I loved exploring the garages where the trams are stored and maintained and there is plenty of information about the history of each tram. The restaurant serves good quality food and is good value for money. I really enjoyed the tram rides and there was plenty of opportunities to stop off and get off at the different stops so that you explore more and enjoy a walk around the area. Thank you so much to the volunteers and workers who make this place such a fantastic place to visit.

Gardens
Belper River Gardens have been a beloved outdoor destination for over a century, offering visitors a serene setting to enjoy the stunning views of the River Derwent. The gardens feature colorful flowerbeds, an arboretum, and a playground, providing entertainment for all ages. Additionally, visitors can relax at the tearoom or enjoy events at the bandstand during summer months. The location also serves as host to various events such as the Chatsworth Festival Art Out Loud in September.
Beautiful place! So, so beautiful! The wildlife is breathtaking! I don’t know who takes care of the gardens, but they are very beautiful! I was surprised to read that it’s part of the UNESCO’s heritage list. The mill building is so impressive too! It still looks well, but it might be better looked after. I would love visiting it inside. I loved the children’s enclosure too. There are toilets, parking and a cosy coffee shop. Everything you could need for a great family day!

A small, well kept, quiet gardens with water features and waterbirds, plus the usual flock of pigeons. Play area and cafe at far end. Car park was 90p for an hour, with plenty of space.
Trev A — Google review
A lovely place for a nice relaxing amble to gather your scattered wits. The river derwent water level is at an all time low, definitely not the time for a swim! A charming cafe facility on site that is not too expensive. Children’s play area with lots of apparatus .
Richard F — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting Belper River Gardens on 24 May 2025, and it was truly a delightful experience. The River Garden stood out as my favourite aspect, offering serene views and a tranquil ambiance perfect for a leisurely stroll. The carefully maintained pathways, lush greenery, and the gentle sound of the river created a picturesque setting that was both calming and refreshing. However, one slight drawback is that the garden isn't particularly large, which may limit exploration for those looking for an extensive outing. Despite this, the charm and beauty packed into the space far outweigh this minor criticism. Overall, I would rate Belper River Gardens 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's a lovely spot for anyone seeking peace and natural beauty, making it well worth a visit.

Nice Victorian era park looking better after some recent & much needed renovations. Well designed children's play area & cute, if pricey cafe too. As a suggestion perhaps leave off giving the ducks bread as it does them harm & creates a mess.

A wonderful Weir and impressive old industrial buildings around the park. We arrived on an early sunny evening which made the park all the more impressive with its contrasts of light and dark.

Strutt's North Mill is a museum located in Belper, celebrating the Strutt family's contribution to the town during the Industrial Revolution. The museum showcases the transition of cotton spinning from home industry to factory setting through original and replica machinery. It also houses the Brettle silk and cotton hosiery collection. The mill offers various events throughout the year, including heritage walks, craft workshops, temporary exhibitions, and seasonal events.
Enjoyed a guided tour of the world's first fire proof building. Unfortunately this piece of history will be closing down thanks to the council. I would recommend a visit asap it really is interesting and made informative by the guides. Hopefully all the movable artifacts and machinery will find a new home and carry on being displayed elsewhere. The walks and tours include inside and outside the mills, the river gardens, long row, nail shop and Joseph street. We spent an hour on the mill tour and a further hour browsing the artifacts and information. Drinks are available in the foyer along with souvenirs, books, information leaflets. Free car park. Admission is £5 which gives a year pass, and Derbyshire day out discounts.

We went of the tour of the Mill. It was very interesting and covered the history of the industry and the facinating innovations around the engineering of the buildings and waterways to power the plant. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We enjoyed the tour and learned a lot. The tour is not too long …… just right.
Jean S — Google review
Absolutely fabulous, history in one building a must for people to see. Unfortunately unless they can find a company willing to help keep our heritage alive it will close in September. Our past soon to be forgotten. Please anyone out there that could help keep our textile history alive please contact the wonderful staff.

I came with my boyfriend. Tony gave us a tour. He made the whole history of the Mills entertaining, and explained to us how the Mills had an impact on the area and the world. He made the visit very interesting for two young adults. I highly recommend.

Went on the Ghost Walk this afternoon and loved it. Really informative and visited areas that I've walked by a million times but never really paid attention to. Will be recommending others and booking in for the next one in 2026 with friends and family!

100% would recommend a visit. Shame its closing down as a museum i really hope the building and the machinery are saved and looked after. Closes end of sept 2022 so if you can id go visit before it does so. Brilliant guided tour by a volunteer with machines I've not seen before then joined a walking tour outside of the mill which was also brilliant £8 each for both tours. Even got to have a go at some machines ! Free parking in carpark outside entrance
Nina P — Google review
A fascinating tour by David in a museum that lets you see how cotton was spun and learn the history of the factory and surrounding area. Visiting the basement floor and looking at where the workings were was really interesting. Apparently this museum is under threat of closure which is a great pity though not a huge surprise really because it wasn't very visible around Belper aaaaaand the parking seemed a bit of an afterthought. Still, it was wonderful wandering in the sunshine around the lanes nearby where workers lived.

Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site An informative and educational visit to the above proved to be a great day out learning about local history and the Strutts family. Great to visit as a kind of family tour of local mills, the history all ties in together nicely to form the bigger picture of the mills.

De Bradelei Mill - Shopping Village is located in the historic George Brettle and Co. building, which dates back to 1834. This shopping center has been a popular destination for over 20 years, offering a wide range of men's and women's clothing, homeware, and more. The village features various stores and eateries including clothing shops, shoe stores, bedding outlets, kitchenware stores, an antiques center as well as a restaurant and cafe.
Shopping Centre in one of the historical Mills in Belper, Derbyshire. Accessibility - there is a lift in one corner of the Mill, a small car park in front. A whole range of stores and eateries including: # clothes # shoes # bedding # kitchenware etc. Car Park - small one to the front with parking for disabled. Larger retail Car Parks near by. Toilets - inside the Centre.
Nerys J — Google review
Large shopping outlet for clothes, shoes, household goods and bed linens for people over 50 plus, both men and women. Cafe also on site but rather pricey so go across the way and use Morrison's
Dennis H — Google review
The Antiques Centre is now closed. The lift to the 2nd floor toilets is no longer working. Used to be a regular visit; no longer.
Stuart B — Google review
Only really visited for the antiques centre which has a good variety of items and various dealers. We were lucky to be able to park very close in a car park which allows 3 hrs free. The big down point is that the antiques centre is on the first floor only accessible via steep steps. Anyone with mobility issues would have a real problem.
John J — Google review
There used to be a great antique centre but the money grabbing landlord forced it to close. The rest of it is drab, outdated and poorly maintained and probably not long of this world. Destined for conversion to flats I think. Don’t bother.
Nick S — Google review
Awful rude staff in the department where the only toilets are. No signage anywhere to point you to lifts for customers. I'm Disabled, the lift is extremely tiny and doesn't give access to the Antique dept. The Disabled toilet is Padlocked. No sign on door to tell you to get the key in clothing dept. I had to use one of the tiny toilets, as the seat was broken in one cubicle. Sat on the toilet in the 2nd tiny cubicle, only to find that seats broken and I fell against the wall. I reported broken seats to 3 ladies at the till. Not in least interested or apologetic. I asked about Disabled toilet, got another negative answer about children vandalism, pointed out lack of sign as to where to get key, oh we'll mention it? I pointed out about RADAR key, not our problem. Pointed out it's discrimination, not our problem. So we left. Stood waiting for the claustrophobic lift, that smells fusty and quite clearly heard the 3 staff members pulling me to pieces. Anyone needing quick access to a Disabled toilet, my advise, don't go there. The clothes are for elderly and very expensive. The High St selection boring. Shoe shop interesting. No signage to any cafes in the Mill. The only Cafe we found was Lauren's in the Courtyard. Distant and abrupt staff member but they were short staffed, so I'll forgive them, as the Toasties was amazing with a Full Side Salad. The clothing side and staff attitude and lack of Accessibility means we'll stick to its sister Mill, at Armstrong in Ilkeston, once the flooding has receded and their lift is restored. Sorry Belper but you've lost our custom.
Vikki F — Google review
Has a great selection of shops, lovely cafe but mainly lift is broken and the other doesn't give full access to antiques centre making it inaccessible for wheelchair users. If this issue is ever fixed, I'll give it 5 stars.
Lisa ( — Google review
Lovely Cafe, sat outside in the court yard. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. The selection of other mill retailers was mixed. However, I will return. 🙂 Returned this morning to browse the clothes shops and had a coffee too.

Derwent Valley Mills is a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site located in the picturesque Derwent Valley. This historic site is home to a collection of 18th-century water-powered textile mills, offering visitors a glimpse into life during the Industrial Revolution. The area includes attractions such as Cromford Mill and Derby Silk Mill, both significant landmarks in the development of modern industry.
Despite the closure of the museum there are lots of interpretation signs across the whole site to explain the Mill, weir, gardens and houses. Plus lovely garden with a well maintained children's playground with a story of its own
Ian J — Google review
The Derwent Valley in central England contains a series of 18th- and 19th- century cotton mills and an industrial landscape of high historical and technological interest. The modern factory owes its origins to the mills at Cromford, where Richard Arkwright's inventions were first put into industrial-scale production. The workers' housing associated with this and the other mills remains intact and illustrate the socio-economic development of the area. The gardens are worth a visit as well.
Pete H — Google review
I love this building and have had the pleasure of doing some cleaning on ground level. This building intrigues me , I love old buildings and would love to explore the rest of it. It has a beautiful walk just around the other side. It has parking and there is a really nice little food hut in the carpark. (The food is great and lovely too) there is an ice cream van just near the water too . Great history to this building
Jessica H — Google review
waste of time going, there are no museums - they've all packed it in and all you can do is wandering round the perimeter of a derelict building.

I took a tour of the Strutt's North Mill. I had been meaning to go for a long time but hearing that it may close in September spurred me to go.Only £5 to visit and to have an excellent guide to explain and even demonstrate some of the machines. Great insight into how these buildings started a massive industry. Highlight for me was in the basement.

Market
Belper Market Place is a charming location that hosts a monthly farmers market on the 2nd Saturday of each month, offering an array of local produce such as meat, cheese, bread, and cakes. The market is open from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and is well-attended. The area also serves as a venue for specialist markets and community activities like drama and music. Additionally, it features historical architecture and offers convenient parking options nearby.
We have been to Belper a couple of times recently for the excellent Farmers Market, and the fantastic range of shops on King Street. It's a treat to find small, independent shops these days and there are more on this one street than most larger towns. Two butchers, greengrocers, cafés and all the other businesses make for a lively and bustling experience. We park at the side of the market, it is free but very bumpy in places Be aware, it is a very steep hill from the market down towards the main road, so be careful when it's wet and take your time if you have any mobility issues.
Isobelle A — Google review
A disappointment really. Nothing special to see or do. Managed a gluten free meal at Nourish which was OK but it was only a chicken salad then ice cream for dessert... Doubt I shall visit Belper again.

Nice old fashioned cobblestone market place that comes alive when something is on. Farmers market last Saturday in the month, makers markets and music events as well as Carols around the tree at Xmas.

Stephen L — Google review
Great space for specialist markets or community activities such as drama and music. Bijou but pleasant location full of character and history . Also has a spacious general parking area to the rear and some disabled spaces on the market itself. Some good local pubs with outside seating. Handy for the top end of the high street with a good selection of shops.
David N — Google review
Really enjoyed shopping at the market stalls. Nice to see the market place used as it's purpose. Bought a wonderfully tasty pie, which sorted dinner for that day. Great to support local businesses. Update 2024: Visited the farmers market AND makers market this past weekend, both wonderful, amazing meeting local sellers and eating local produce. I bought another pie! And some tasty scotch eggs (there were so many flavours to choose from, and he threw another in for free!)
Jade M — Google review
Perfect place for a market with easy parking nearby.
John A — Google review
Belper is a beautiful town with some fantastic architecture. It's not suitable for those that hate hills mind you but that's not the reason for the missing star (that would be a bit unfair). Since this review is specifically for the Market Place, the missing star is because there isn't a cash machine close to the square, you have to walk a considerable distance to find one.

Kedleston Hall is a stunning neoclassical mansion located in the village of Kedleston, Derbyshire. Built in the mid-18th century, it boasts grand Palladian architecture and is surrounded by over 740 acres of picturesque parkland with lakes and walking trails. The interiors, designed by Robert Adam, showcase a remarkable collection of fine paintings and furniture. In the summer, visitors can enjoy outdoor theatre and cinema on the grounds.
Kedleston Hall is a beautiful location for walking and enjoying some time with nature. I'd thoroughly recommend getting there early to beat the crowds as on a sunny day, it does get very busy. There is good car parking and excellent facilities at the entrance. Most of the walks are clearly marked, with loads of spots to stop and sit down to take a load off, or enjoy the grounds. Excellent location for the dogs, lots of space to sniff and run around, though it is leads on throughout the site.
Steven M — Google review
I was really impressed and enjoyed our recent family visit. Lots of parking close to the Hall and grounds. We had a voucher and entered the hall/gounds for free. The hall itself is smaller than some other places such as Chatsworth but still felt big on the inside and lots of rooms to explore. A refreshing facility here were lockers for bags/possesions. This made a massive difference compared to some other places that demand no bags taken into the house, but nowhere to store them. We had our kids day bag and picnic bag and we locked them away without any worries. The staff were very polite and kind and even helped us with our possessions and didnt make us feel like naugthy children for daring to come to a place like this with bags ( take note Chatsworth ) The house has some dazzling rooms to explore and takes a good hour to take it all in. Behind the house is an amazing church which despite its small size is stunning inside with several amazing tombs and sculpures. The grounds are lovely with the addition of a childrens play area tucked away with lots of things to keep the little ones busy. There is the usual gift shop and refreshingly a book shop, which I grabbed a few items from. I cant comment on the cafe/resturant as we didnt use it but the food and decor looked very nice. There is a small coffee stand near the stables which does a very nice mocha and sells Bluebells icecream for what I thought was a very reasonable price. Overall I would definatley recommend.
David F — Google review
The cows greet you on entry but once across the bridge, the house and setting looks like a landscape painting. In the house, it has a Rome pantheon oculus ceiling and amazing collumned room. A good bit that's easily missed is the curved corridor near the entrance with the big game heads from animals shot over 120 years ago, an insight into the days of the Raj. Could easily spend 4 hours here if you do the walks too.
Nick L — Google review
Quite the contrast to Calke Abbey. Be sure to arrive with plenty of time to tour the house as there is a LOT to see inside. The tour is self guided but volunteers are on hand to assist. Kedelston has holdings reminiscent of a Royal Palace. It is pristine on the interior. There is a cafe on the grounds that is open until 5:00 pm. So, plenty of time for a cuppa after a tour of the house. The gardens are limited, but the grounds in the back of the house are worth going out and enjoying. Flowers were still blooming in late September, but many of them were spent as well.
Barbara G — Google review
Extremely impressive house that was built for show and not actually lived in by the extremely wealthy owners who lived in a wing attached to the main house . The servants hall is the main visitor entrance and even this is grand in comparison to other large period houses. Huge rooms many with high ceilings and stunning features, decorations and furnishings etc this house just oozes money and wealth. The staff and volunteers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and add personality to the house. Large onsite NT cafe which has a good selection of food/drinks but odd ordering system
A340 F — Google review
Great place to visit good information in the hall and good paths around the estate for wheelchairs and disabled people but very expensive food example £5 for a sausage roll seriously come on get the food prices down and £22 adults to enter you need to get it lower and you get more in I am a member of the National Trust and hear people say this
Andy H — Google review
I recently attended the Diwali celebration at Kedleston Hall , courtesy of Simran Kaur Sandhu, Creative Producer — and it was one of the most enchanting cultural experiences I’ve had in the UK. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and inclusive. The hall was beautifully transformed with hand-crafted marigold garlands and glowing diyas, casting a soft golden light across the grand interiors. The way traditional Indian design was woven into the neoclassical setting felt effortless — a perfect balance of heritage and celebration. Some of my favourite moments included the stunning light projections inspired by rangoli art, the interactive cultural displays, and the thoughtful details like restored lamps and traditional games that made the whole experience feel alive and personal. Felt genuinely welcoming and touched with this story. Everything felt authentic, well-researched, and deeply respectful of both cultures. It was more than an event — it was a heartfelt celebration of community, creativity, and light. I left feeling proud, inspired, and grateful to have experienced such a meaningful Diwali at such a historic venue. Truly a must-visit if you get the chance.

What a great place! The house was finished in 1765 which was intended for grand entertaining and used to display superb paintings, sculptures and furniture. Kedleston celebrates one 18th century landowners fascination with classical Rome and this can be seen and witnessed throughout the entire house

Cromford Canal, located in the Derwent Valley Mills, was constructed in 1794 to facilitate transportation of coal and limestone for the iron industry. Extending over 14.5 miles, its southern end serves as a local nature reserve that provides sanctuary for endangered species such as grass snakes and water voles. The canal is a sought-after destination for British canoeing; however, access is limited due to the nature reserve's protection efforts.
Incredibly beautiful walk. This ( April - May ) is our favourite time with spring flowers coming out, so much wildlife around every bend. At this time, the canal banks have only reached ankle high so you can see into the mostly clear water. Between Whatstanwell and Ambergate is the most peaceful once you've aclimatized to the sound of the traffic passing on the nearby A6. Leawood Pump house is well worth a visit, especially on an open day with steam up and running. With each stroke pumping 4 tons (800 gallons) of water, from the River Derwent up into the canal.

Love this place. Especially on summer evenings when it is quiet. Long towpath from Cromford village to Ambergate via High Peak junction and Whatstandwell. Easy level path to walk, with pushchair or wheelchair. Occasional benches to sit and stare. Lots of wildlife to enjoy: water voles, grebes, swans, kingfishers, fish, dragonflies and even swimming grass snakes - see video!

Took a lovely walk along the towpath of the Cromford canal today. The surroundings are beautiful. The wildlife is plentiful. It as a lot of history..It really is a pleasing walk, with seats now and again along the way. There is a medium sized car park. The only thing i would say against it is dont go on a sunny weekend as the only walkway is the canal towpath and it gets very congested , especially for pushchairs etc..I went on a wednesday in March, saw approx 20 people...However it is a wonderful walk and i mark it 4 stars...will go again in midweek for sure...

Parked just opposite Arkwright's till (sorry, Mill). Parking fees pretty reasonable. More parking down the road. Cromford Wharf is very picture esq ewe. Wheatcrofts (?) Cafe is very good too. Really nice walk up to High Peak crossing, which is also nice, and plenty of other stuff around which also seems 'nice'. Lovely 😉 Highly recommended 👌 👍 👏

Great place for a nice relaxing walk. Note that Google maps will take you to the wrong place!. Park in the car park opposite Cromford Mills. This car park is more convenient and cheaper than Cromford Mills car park

The heritage preservation Midland Railway offers a fun day out for all the family with round trips, picnics and themed days. Heritage train rides transport you to a bygone era and the museum has a fabulous princess train as well as model railways to look around. The cafe also sells toys, sweets and memorabilia items.
Went to a steampunk event here and was impressed at accessibility for mobility scooter/wheelchair users although a bit more signage would be helpful (I totally missed the ramp from the car park). True, you may need to travel in the guard's van, but at least you can travel on the train & if you have some mobility you can go and sit in a carriage. Good toilet facilities at Swanwick and whilst they do exist at Butterley, again a lack of signage means that they are hard to find. Plenty to see and do. If you like trains it's definitely worth a visit.

This is a infrequent visit for me,but everything has been an absolute Blast. One of the more out the way heritage railways with seems to get a hell of alot of Mainline traction with also a Impressive Homebased fleet. Plenty of Immersive museums and Exhibitions. 10 out of 10.

Hidden gem of Derby! Me and the kids had a fantastic day out here. It was the kids first time on a train and the views and location is fantastic. The amount on offer here is way beyond what I expected and we didn't even see it all. We will be back soon with friends to do it all again. The most surprising thing was how quite it was here, they have a fantastic community feeling here everyone is clearly very passionate about being there and supporting the history. Highly recommended for a relaxed day trip out especially if you enjoy engineering in any capacity

Had a little reminisce this morning down at the ode midland railway in butterley near Ripley. I'll be honest the track could do with a bit of maintenance as it looked very weedy and overgrown in parts. But still the train was running which is great news and it's always a nice little trip to take the youngsters on. The reservoir surrounding the track is a cracker and has some tasty carp up to 30lbs and the odd greedy sturgeon and pike also frequent the deeps! Had a lovely bacon and sausage cob from the cafe in the car park and at £4 quid a pop this was a cracking breakfast bap. The other half went for a wee wee in the toilet and said they were out of loo roll so had to use a wet wipe, she said after flushing it stunk and the loo re gurgiatated someone else's number 2 or poo to you and me.........nice keep up the good work fishermen 👏🎣👊

Wonderful place to visit with so many interesting exhibits to see, in lovingly restored old buildings, set in beautiful countryside. The volunteers are all friendly and very happy to answer any questions. The train line goes through some beautiful scenery and there's a narrow gauge railway that's only £1. There's a lovely cafe and all the facilities are family friendly. The shop has a great selection of toys, models and railway books/magazines.

Lovely trip on a DMU, comfy carriages too. The miniature railway was also a lovely trip through the woods. There is a wonderful shed with vintage buses & coaches, and a very knowledgeable and lovely man who showed me around. There is also a new large engine shed with viewing platforms within a short walk. The cafe at the station serves drinks and snacks. Sadly no photos as my phone froze!

The Heage Windmill is a historical tourist attraction located in between Belper and Ripley, in North Yorkshire. It is the only working six-sailed stone tower windmill in England, and visitors can take a guided tour around the mill to learn about its history and how it works. During the tour, you can also purchase some flour!
Absolutely lovely 6 sail, fully restored working windmill! Brilliantly run by enthusiastic, and very lovely, volunteers. Well worth a visit - whether you were a Windy Miller fan, or not! Fascinating.

This is an absolute gem of a place run by incredible volunteers who are passionate about what they do. The tour is £6 per adult and is the perfect legnth. There is a lovely place to sit for a picnic and you can pick up ice cream from the shop. The windmill is working and clearly maintained with love and great care; they mill and sell flour here too. Essential visit.

Absolutely fantastic tour of an amazing engineering piece of history. We learnt so much, the tour guide was probably the best guide I have ever experienced, presenting the history so well, and extremely good communication skills. Could definitely recommend to anyone, superb!!

Can’t believe this is practically on my door step. Brilliant place to visit and take a picnic. Staff are extremely welcoming and paid for a tour. Highly recommended, hope the windmill is there for many years to come for people to enjoy.

Gorgeous little gem, set back from the road down a winding track. The only 6-sailed, stone built windmill in the UK Open most weekends over the summer & Bank Holidays, they sometimes have special events. Free car-parking. Small cost for guided tour of the windmill. Stunning views over the valley. Worth a visit.
Elaine W — Google review
My first visit. Beautiful day today which made the visit even better. Spectacular views over countryside. Lovely guided tour and opportunity to walk around inside including up staircases to almond the top of your windmill. A shop is available for souvenirs, toilet facilities are available along with hot and cold drinks and a few snacks. However they don't provide lunches etc. all staff are friendly and very helpful and can't help enough.

Nature & Parks
Belper Park Local Natural Reserve is a hidden gem that offers a delightful escape into nature. Upon arrival, you might be surprised by the modest entrance, but don’t let that deter you! Once inside, you'll discover enchanting woodlands where you can wander among trees and stumble upon charming little huts crafted by visitors. The park features a mix of ancient woodland and grassy fields, with the picturesque Coppice Brook winding through it.
Wasn't sure what to make of this place as we arrived. Google took us the wrong way so it took a few minutes to find it. The entrance that we went on didn't look as much and I was thinking about turning back, but then the sun came out and thought meh let's go what's the worst that can happen. My dear Lord I am so glad I didn't turn back as this place is just majestic. I love the woodland, it is not a thick one and you can venture in between the trees. Lots of little gems if you do where people have made little huts. There's a stream at the bottom which is not deep so your doggies can dip their paws in there. As you walk to the top you'll see a field with some exercise tables (for all of you keen gym goers) 🥰 and as you turn around there are some spectacular views. My doggies loved this place. Think they were zooming for the whole three hours we were there. There are no horse riders here or livestock that we could see and you can get away with just walking boots as it wasn't that muddy and I doubt it ever gets too muddy as it is on a heel. There are also a few bins here and there, another added bonus. Must see if you're in the area 🥰
Vik Z — Google review
Within easy 5 minute walking distance from town. Plenty of car parks around town to use. This is part woods, part fields. It's not particularly large and after 35 minutes we had done it. Not suitable for pushchairs. Walking boots advised as muddy in areas. Great for walking dogs, and if you head to the field up the hill there is a small children's play area. No toilets or food facilities.
R J — Google review
Lovely place to walk the dogs, free car parking, and everyone we met seemed happy and friendly
Mick H — Google review
Nice Park to take a wonder around. Free parking at the Copice in Belper, also worth a walk around. Then when you're hungry, try eating out at one of the many home grown eateries (avoid the chains) or having a drink at one of the number of craft ale bars, cocktail bar, or sports pubs (if that's your thing). Always stuff on (such as the wollen woods) so get on t'internet to see whats kicking off...and get joining in!
Rob C — Google review
Great place to walk amongst nature, very popular with dog walkers and people wanting to chill

Went to the Christmas Market. What a lovely time I had there, The catering staff were very pleasant and the lady who was by the children's craft table was really good with the children, my grandchild loved doing the crafts. In fact everyone I met were very pleasant and they had a group singing there, the Truffles? All in all I spent a good couple of hours there, I left my bag of purchases by the craft table and went back an hour later and it was exactly where I'd left it. 🙂🙂

Great music events at this church. I have just seen a review of Cloudbusting, the Kate Bush tribute, which is at odds with my view of the same concert. The sound was good and there was a superb video backdrop and lighting. The choice of songs was brilliant I saw them last year too and was amazed how much new material there was, any fan who had followed Kates career would know all the songs, as I did. There was a standing ovation followed by an encore and another standing ovation. This wasn't just a band going through Kates hits this is a band who are obviously fans of her music and are a true tribute band. EXCELLENT SHOW.
Chris R — Google review
Cloudbusting, the Kate Bush Experience. I went to see this last night at St Peters church in Belper. I have really been looking forward to this. Not blown away. Firstly, the sound was very low. This might have been the church acoustics but it was poor. 2. Choice of songs, many I didn't even recognise. I am a fan and have nearly all her albums. The lookalike said "here's one that a few of you might remember " why not play songs that we'll all remember. You're a tribute band for God's sake. Musicianship was good. But marred by rubbish sound and song Choice. I couldn't understand a single word she said between songs. Which there was too much of. Just play the hits. Verdict, not enthralled.
C G — Google review
Attended St. Peter's to see 'In the Footsteps of Ewan McColl' 11th May which was absolutely superb. Only complaint was that we couldn't properly hear what was being said in the first half. Mentioned it to the sound engineer and it turned out it was because of where we were sitting. He tweaked the system and it was perfectly fine in the second half.
Toni G — Google review
Pretty good as a venue for folk concerts. A bit short on toilets, and the system for buying drinks is a bit unwieldy (but at least they do sell drinks - not bad for a church). Friendly and welcoming volunteers and organisers with good taste in performers.

A pleasant garden to visit when in Belper. The gardens are dedicated to those Belper folk who made the ultimate sacrifice during war for their country. There's a war time bunker underneath the lawns, but due to Eleven Saphti it is rarely open to the public. The flower beds are well maintained by Belper Town Council and usually have some kind of display. The pictures I've attached are from the Belper Well Dressing event (2022) where town folk construct blessings artwork on beds of clay using natural materials to form the patterns.

Lovely, relaxing, peaceful memorial gardens to just contemplate in a quiet moment to remember those we have lost in conflict, have a bite to eat/picnic or just sit and fall asleep in the sun. Wonderful flower arrangements at different times of the year and well maintained

What a place this is! We arrived in the town of belper and parked up in the free coppice car park. We then made our way trying to find the elusive memorial gardens! We took a couple of wrong turns and ended up down a big hill in some grannies back garden. We went back on our tracks, somehow found a random footpath, and like abracadabra, bobs ya uncle, aunts ya fanny we were in the beautiful memorial gardens! Here we setup shop and were part of the audience watching the Aspire Wrestling alliance putting on a variety of shows for all the hundreds of local belperites in attendance. I must say pal, the weather was a little weird today, we experienced everything from rain 🌧 cloud ☁️ to beaming hot sunshine 🌞 3 portaloos for anyone needing to spend a penny, a popup bar and plenty of live singers were all in action here today. The madhatters would of been a proud bunch today, the event was a massive success albeit being a little wet early doors 🚪 the bread woman on king street sold all her loaves.........she best get baking more for next year! Till then sunshine.......keep smiling 😃

Garden
Beaurepaire Garden is a charming little haven located in Belper, just a short walk from the town center. Visitors have described it as a beautiful and pleasant place to stroll through, with its small size adding to its allure. The garden features a train track running through it, making it an especially delightful spot for families with children. Despite occasional flooding, the love and care put into maintaining this lovely park are evident, making it well worth a visit for anyone passing through the area.
A beautiful small garden , that's a ten minute walk from the town centre for the brisk walker . This garden is a quiet haven and is a great place for adults and children alike , it has many features that are quirky and eclectic and I'm sure that children would enjoy the experience as it would inspire there imagination with it's mix of little statues and treasures that have been donated by the local community and the grounds caretakers , who truly have created a little bit of magic here in belper . The garden has many tributes to loved ones who have sadly passed , and some families have donated a feature of remembrance , which may i add are not solemn but often light-hearted and all add to the magical atmosphere of this beautiful place . The garden is free to enter and it's upkeep is maintained by a local caretaker and a small team of helpers who work unpaid , so if you have a donation to it's upkeep it would be greatly appreciated to help maintain the project . The garden has quite a historical past and it's origins hail way back to the industrial revolution years as it was a former allotment to the strutt family residence and also has links to a Roman past , but now it's purpose is a community park . Please may I add that although there are plenty of bench style seats available for a picnic or a peaceful rest here , the grounds may be a bit of a challenge for the less mobile , but the front gate is wheelchair friendly so it's easier , as the side entrance would be a struggle with it's steps so best avoided , the grounds are partially paved so you should be ok with your mobility chair or pram if you have children and all the garden's features can be seen from it's pathway , so I'm sure should you visit you will enjoy it's peaceful and relaxing magical charm , not the biggest of gardens , but always a surprise around every corner that has been created with the biggest of hearts from the local community . WELL WORTH A VISIT !! When in the belper area .

This park is only good for people living nearby as it is awkwardly located on a hill brow. It has some play ground equipment but not all is suitable for disabled children. Also the landscaping does not help either as children can hurt themselves over large rock placed there. Quite poorly laid out for the money that was spent on it. It looks good but it does not serve the purpose.

It's a triangle recreation ground on a gradient. Brilliant for sledging using the goals to aim for. Children's play area been updated since this review and now includes a cool zip wire! Massive improvement. Bit of a village green!.

Best thing about this place is all three corners. Not quite an equilateral triangle... More scalene in my opinion but that is what makes it so incredible! We were given a friendly reception by Jill, who was able to offer some useful advice as well as kindly offering some assistance transporting our purchase to our car, much appreciated! Well worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.
