Crich Tramway Village, also known as the National Tramway Museum, is a meticulously restored period village featuring historic facades and a remarkable collection of over 60 vintage trams dating from 1873 to 1982. Visitors can step aboard these beautifully preserved trams and explore the recreated village, complete with a working pub, cafe, sweetshop, and tram depots.
Crich Tramway Village is an absolute delight for all ages! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the warmest and most helpful staff and volunteers who clearly love what they do. Their passion and friendliness truly made the day extra special. The whole experience is beautifully nostalgic, like stepping back in time. Riding the vintage trams through the scenic countryside is both relaxing and fascinating. The recreated period street, old-style sweet shops, exhibitions, and woodland walk make it a full day out, rain or shine! One of the best surprises? Free parking and the fact that a full-price ticket gives you unlimited return visits for a whole year! That’s incredible value for money — we’ll definitely be coming back again (and again)! Whether you’re into history, transport, or just looking for a fun and peaceful family day out, Crich Tramway Village is a must-visit. Highly recommended! THERE IS A SOFT PLAY AREA AND OUTDOOR PLAY AREA FOR CHILDREN !! NO ONE WILL FEEL BOARD HERE

Totally surprised myself by how interesting I found this! These are beautiful to look and watch as they go past. Such a shame that we don't use these anymore! There was plenty to do and see. The woodland walks with the wooden sculptures were great! We loved the wooden potato head! We all enjoyed the Tram ride through the village! Great day out!
Becky — Google review
A lovely day out for the enthusiast. We had three trams running on our visit and was able to ride on them with ease. The other attractions, such as the Woodland walk was a pleasant activity. The tram museum is very informative with a good collection of trams and their history. There are plenty of places to sit down but I would recommend bringing your own food/picnic as the small on site cafe has very limited table accommodation inside.
Matt B — Google review
What a great day we had, it's steam punk weekend here, and decided to go along to find out what it was like. £25 per adult but free to come back within 12 months. Blast from the past as you walk down to the recreation of tram life with the extra of alot of people dressed up in their desired steam punk outfits. Great to see them all. So much to see with the history of trams, and the woodland walk is a must, we really enjoyed this part. Cant wait to go back again.
Pete S — Google review
I last visited here as a child, so was nice to return as an adult. I have also done videos on my Youtube channel - @karlsmith25, so take a look. Enjoyed the 2 tram rides, and also the ticket is well worth the money as you can return free of charge during the 12 months its valid for. Will definitely return in 2026.
Karl S — Google review
A lovely day out . We had spent the weekend in Matlock Bath. A truly lovely place to visit. The tramway village is only approximately 6miles away. It's like stepping back in time . Along with many trams on display, there are some you travel on along a track. An old fashioned sweetshop and pub . There's a cafe serving food . Sadly the country walk got to by the tram was closed due to the bad weather. Tickets are valid for 12 months so hopefully will go back in the summer months
Suzy S — Google review
Great day out. A big part of family holidays when I was a child was riding the trams at Blackpool along the seafront. Seeing a couple of these at the museum brought back some very happy memories. My parents would have rode on trams like some of these when they were young. It’s fantastic to see so many all in one place and all so well preserved. I love this sort of place. It’s so amazing that people had the foresight to save these items, be they trams or trains or buses, vintage cars, old buildings. They deserve our full support. Will definitely pay another visit.
Kevin B — Google review
Highly recommend a visit here. Visited as a family and enjoyed by all. The staff were great, plenty to explore. Tram rides are brilliant for the trail up to the top or just for a return ride. The gift shop and sweet shop offer treats for reasonable prices. Great value entry and automatically gives you a years pass to return.

Bodies of Water
Cromford Canal, located in the Derwent Valley Mills, was constructed in 1794 to facilitate transportation of coal and limestone for the iron industry. Extending over 14.5 miles, its southern end serves as a local nature reserve that provides sanctuary for endangered species such as grass snakes and water voles. The canal is a sought-after destination for British canoeing; however, access is limited due to the nature reserve's protection efforts.
Incredibly beautiful walk. This ( April - May ) is our favourite time with spring flowers coming out, so much wildlife around every bend. At this time, the canal banks have only reached ankle high so you can see into the mostly clear water. Between Whatstanwell and Ambergate is the most peaceful once you've aclimatized to the sound of the traffic passing on the nearby A6. Leawood Pump house is well worth a visit, especially on an open day with steam up and running. With each stroke pumping 4 tons (800 gallons) of water, from the River Derwent up into the canal.
Phil D — Google review
Love this place. Especially on summer evenings when it is quiet. Long towpath from Cromford village to Ambergate via High Peak junction and Whatstandwell. Easy level path to walk, with pushchair or wheelchair. Occasional benches to sit and stare. Lots of wildlife to enjoy: water voles, grebes, swans, kingfishers, fish, dragonflies and even swimming grass snakes - see video!
Jane R — Google review
Took a lovely walk along the towpath of the Cromford canal today. The surroundings are beautiful. The wildlife is plentiful. It as a lot of history..It really is a pleasing walk, with seats now and again along the way. There is a medium sized car park. The only thing i would say against it is dont go on a sunny weekend as the only walkway is the canal towpath and it gets very congested , especially for pushchairs etc..I went on a wednesday in March, saw approx 20 people...However it is a wonderful walk and i mark it 4 stars...will go again in midweek for sure...

Parked just opposite Arkwright's till (sorry, Mill). Parking fees pretty reasonable. More parking down the road. Cromford Wharf is very picture esq ewe. Wheatcrofts (?) Cafe is very good too. Really nice walk up to High Peak crossing, which is also nice, and plenty of other stuff around which also seems 'nice'. Lovely 😉 Highly recommended 👌 👍 👏

Nice flat walk. Discover nature. Coffee shop and cafe at the wharf. Easy parking, however pay and display. Dog friendly.

Great place for a nice relaxing walk. Note that Google maps will take you to the wrong place!. Park in the car park opposite Cromford Mills. This car park is more convenient and cheaper than Cromford Mills car park

Always good for a steady walk not too exhaustive as no hills, usually good for viewing wildlife.

The Heage Windmill is a historical tourist attraction located in between Belper and Ripley, in North Yorkshire. It is the only working six-sailed stone tower windmill in England, and visitors can take a guided tour around the mill to learn about its history and how it works. During the tour, you can also purchase some flour!
Absolutely lovely 6 sail, fully restored working windmill! Brilliantly run by enthusiastic, and very lovely, volunteers. Well worth a visit - whether you were a Windy Miller fan, or not! Fascinating.
Julia B — Google review
This is an absolute gem of a place run by incredible volunteers who are passionate about what they do. The tour is £6 per adult and is the perfect legnth. There is a lovely place to sit for a picnic and you can pick up ice cream from the shop. The windmill is working and clearly maintained with love and great care; they mill and sell flour here too. Essential visit.

Absolutely fantastic tour of an amazing engineering piece of history. We learnt so much, the tour guide was probably the best guide I have ever experienced, presenting the history so well, and extremely good communication skills. Could definitely recommend to anyone, superb!!

Can’t believe this is practically on my door step. Brilliant place to visit and take a picnic. Staff are extremely welcoming and paid for a tour. Highly recommended, hope the windmill is there for many years to come for people to enjoy.

Gorgeous little gem, set back from the road down a winding track. The only 6-sailed, stone built windmill in the UK Open most weekends over the summer & Bank Holidays, they sometimes have special events. Free car-parking. Small cost for guided tour of the windmill. Stunning views over the valley. Worth a visit.
Elaine W — Google review
My first visit. Beautiful day today which made the visit even better. Spectacular views over countryside. Lovely guided tour and opportunity to walk around inside including up staircases to almond the top of your windmill. A shop is available for souvenirs, toilet facilities are available along with hot and cold drinks and a few snacks. However they don't provide lunches etc. all staff are friendly and very helpful and can't help enough.
Gail W — Google review
I went to see both the Windmill and the Tractor Rally there. I'll be visiting the Windmill (which was turning during the Rally) again very soon.
Peter S — Google review
Visited for a car show and found that you could have a tour of the windmill. £16 for a family of 5. Guides were very knowledgeable and it was a wonderful experience. My 8 year old loved it! Small shop selling flour, ice cream and souvenirs and a used book shelf with books for a small donation.

Garden
Beaurepaire Garden is a charming little haven located in Belper, just a short walk from the town center. Visitors have described it as a beautiful and pleasant place to stroll through, with its small size adding to its allure. The garden features a train track running through it, making it an especially delightful spot for families with children. Despite occasional flooding, the love and care put into maintaining this lovely park are evident, making it well worth a visit for anyone passing through the area.
A beautiful small garden , that's a ten minute walk from the town centre for the brisk walker . This garden is a quiet haven and is a great place for adults and children alike , it has many features that are quirky and eclectic and I'm sure that children would enjoy the experience as it would inspire there imagination with it's mix of little statues and treasures that have been donated by the local community and the grounds caretakers , who truly have created a little bit of magic here in belper . The garden has many tributes to loved ones who have sadly passed , and some families have donated a feature of remembrance , which may i add are not solemn but often light-hearted and all add to the magical atmosphere of this beautiful place . The garden is free to enter and it's upkeep is maintained by a local caretaker and a small team of helpers who work unpaid , so if you have a donation to it's upkeep it would be greatly appreciated to help maintain the project . The garden has quite a historical past and it's origins hail way back to the industrial revolution years as it was a former allotment to the strutt family residence and also has links to a Roman past , but now it's purpose is a community park . Please may I add that although there are plenty of bench style seats available for a picnic or a peaceful rest here , the grounds may be a bit of a challenge for the less mobile , but the front gate is wheelchair friendly so it's easier , as the side entrance would be a struggle with it's steps so best avoided , the grounds are partially paved so you should be ok with your mobility chair or pram if you have children and all the garden's features can be seen from it's pathway , so I'm sure should you visit you will enjoy it's peaceful and relaxing magical charm , not the biggest of gardens , but always a surprise around every corner that has been created with the biggest of hearts from the local community . WELL WORTH A VISIT !! When in the belper area .

First time I've discovered this beautiful little haven in Belper. It truly is gorgeous, I'm looking forward to going back and taking the children to see it, we'd love to see the trains running. There is clearly so much love and meaning throughout the garden; it is adorable. Thank you.

Quirky. Worth a quick visit, very small area can be walked round in minutes. Pity hardly any of the water features nor the train were running.

Excellent quality food, freshly prepared & the flavours are delicious. Exceptional service and staff, who want you to have a good time, very knowledgeable about the menu , allergies etc. Portion sizes were good value for money. There are some stairs inside & I'm unsure if they have a area for people with disabilities, a phone call would be best. A piece of Italy in Belper, nice rustic interior.

Fabulous 80th Birthday meal for my Mum. Lovely food, friendly staff, and a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff even sang happy birthday for Mum, and lit a candle in her dessert. We’ve eaten at Armando’s 3 or 4 times now. The food and service have always been consistently excellent. Thank you. Keep up the great work!

We recently had a wake at this pub. Not what you expect to read about on a review, but it's something we all have to deal with at some point in our lives. Less convinced by the guy/s running the place unfortunately but can't be doing everything wrong as overall it was a nice place with good food and very friendly hard working people doing the actual work. Nice experience - thank you

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Black Boy Inn. Our room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed, air conditioning, coffee making equipment and the kind of bath towels you’d expect in a five star hotel. The proprietors, Dave and Angie, and their employees were outstanding - very service oriented, efficient and kind. The food was very good. We had one dinner and two breakfasts here. Everything was fresh and tasty. If we’re ever back in the area we will definitely stay here again.

Anila is a fantastic Indian restaurant located just outside of Belper, where the ambiance truly sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere is enhanced by perfectly dimmed lighting, creating a cozy and stylish environment. Guests are greeted with warm smiles from friendly staff who go above and beyond to ensure everyone feels welcome. The food at Anila is nothing short of exceptional; each dish is freshly prepared using high-quality ingredients that burst with flavor.
Me and my family went tonight and let me tell you that the atmosphere was amazing, with the lights dimmed just right. The waiters were welcoming and really friendly . The food was excellent, arrived quickly, and each course was perfectly timed. The strawberry mocktail was sweet and delicious. The food is amazing, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect. They really go out of their way to make customers feel welcome. The owner also went out of his way to make sure that we were Happy and content which was really appreciated by us all and also picked the starters for us as we were a bit indecisive lol (by the way he has really good taste as the starters were out of this world!!). Would definitely recommend and for sure coming back 🫶🏼

Fantastic Indian Restaurant on the outside of Belper. Nice relaxed and stylish layout and very friendly staff. All our food was freshly prepared with quality ingredients and we were very pleased with our choices. Our waiter inquired how we enjoyed our food and also brought us a piece of cake after we had finished. No alcohol license but this did not matter at all and you are welcome to bring your own wine if you wish. Highly recommended 👏

Kedleston Hall is a stunning neoclassical mansion located in the village of Kedleston, Derbyshire. Built in the mid-18th century, it boasts grand Palladian architecture and is surrounded by over 740 acres of picturesque parkland with lakes and walking trails. The interiors, designed by Robert Adam, showcase a remarkable collection of fine paintings and furniture. In the summer, visitors can enjoy outdoor theatre and cinema on the grounds.
Kedleston Hall is a beautiful location for walking and enjoying some time with nature. I'd thoroughly recommend getting there early to beat the crowds as on a sunny day, it does get very busy. There is good car parking and excellent facilities at the entrance. Most of the walks are clearly marked, with loads of spots to stop and sit down to take a load off, or enjoy the grounds. Excellent location for the dogs, lots of space to sniff and run around, though it is leads on throughout the site.

I was really impressed and enjoyed our recent family visit. Lots of parking close to the Hall and grounds. We had a voucher and entered the hall/gounds for free. The hall itself is smaller than some other places such as Chatsworth but still felt big on the inside and lots of rooms to explore. A refreshing facility here were lockers for bags/possesions. This made a massive difference compared to some other places that demand no bags taken into the house, but nowhere to store them. We had our kids day bag and picnic bag and we locked them away without any worries. The staff were very polite and kind and even helped us with our possessions and didnt make us feel like naugthy children for daring to come to a place like this with bags ( take note Chatsworth ) The house has some dazzling rooms to explore and takes a good hour to take it all in. Behind the house is an amazing church which despite its small size is stunning inside with several amazing tombs and sculpures. The grounds are lovely with the addition of a childrens play area tucked away with lots of things to keep the little ones busy. There is the usual gift shop and refreshingly a book shop, which I grabbed a few items from. I cant comment on the cafe/resturant as we didnt use it but the food and decor looked very nice. There is a small coffee stand near the stables which does a very nice mocha and sells Bluebells icecream for what I thought was a very reasonable price. Overall I would definatley recommend.

A really nice place to visit, a lovely house with some impressive rooms and furniture. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. It did not rain so we had a lovely walk around the gardens and to the bridge, also managed to walk around the church. There is a restaurant serving food and a coffee van near the stables with covered seating.

The cows greet you on entry but once across the bridge, the house and setting looks like a landscape painting. In the house, it has a Rome pantheon oculus ceiling and amazing collumned room. A good bit that's easily missed is the curved corridor near the entrance with the big game heads from animals shot over 120 years ago, an insight into the days of the Raj. Could easily spend 4 hours here if you do the walks too.

Extremely impressive house that was built for show and not actually lived in by the extremely wealthy owners who lived in a wing attached to the main house . The servants hall is the main visitor entrance and even this is grand in comparison to other large period houses. Huge rooms many with high ceilings and stunning features, decorations and furnishings etc this house just oozes money and wealth. The staff and volunteers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and add personality to the house. Large onsite NT cafe which has a good selection of food/drinks but odd ordering system

Amazing walk. I took the long look 5km , the trail is very well maintained and a true pleasure. You can select to stay in cafe, go to church or enjoy the gardens when u finish your walk

I recently attended the Diwali celebration at Kedleston Hall , courtesy of Simran Kaur Sandhu, Creative Producer — and it was one of the most enchanting cultural experiences I’ve had in the UK. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and inclusive. The hall was beautifully transformed with hand-crafted marigold garlands and glowing diyas, casting a soft golden light across the grand interiors. The way traditional Indian design was woven into the neoclassical setting felt effortless — a perfect balance of heritage and celebration. Some of my favourite moments included the stunning light projections inspired by rangoli art, the interactive cultural displays, and the thoughtful details like restored lamps and traditional games that made the whole experience feel alive and personal. Felt genuinely welcoming and touched with this story. Everything felt authentic, well-researched, and deeply respectful of both cultures. It was more than an event — it was a heartfelt celebration of community, creativity, and light. I left feeling proud, inspired, and grateful to have experienced such a meaningful Diwali at such a historic venue. Truly a must-visit if you get the chance.

Stunning house. The current renovation work being done by the Trust is superb. One of the best houses I have visited. Also deckchairs and seating provided around the gardens so that you can chill and take in the beautiful surroundings. Definitely recommend.

Park
Nature & Parks
Belper Park Local Natural Reserve is a hidden gem that offers a delightful escape into nature. Upon arrival, you might be surprised by the modest entrance, but don’t let that deter you! Once inside, you'll discover enchanting woodlands where you can wander among trees and stumble upon charming little huts crafted by visitors. The park features a mix of ancient woodland and grassy fields, with the picturesque Coppice Brook winding through it.
Wasn't sure what to make of this place as we arrived. Google took us the wrong way so it took a few minutes to find it. The entrance that we went on didn't look as much and I was thinking about turning back, but then the sun came out and thought meh let's go what's the worst that can happen. My dear Lord I am so glad I didn't turn back as this place is just majestic. I love the woodland, it is not a thick one and you can venture in between the trees. Lots of little gems if you do where people have made little huts. There's a stream at the bottom which is not deep so your doggies can dip their paws in there. As you walk to the top you'll see a field with some exercise tables (for all of you keen gym goers) 🥰 and as you turn around there are some spectacular views. My doggies loved this place. Think they were zooming for the whole three hours we were there. There are no horse riders here or livestock that we could see and you can get away with just walking boots as it wasn't that muddy and I doubt it ever gets too muddy as it is on a heel. There are also a few bins here and there, another added bonus. Must see if you're in the area 🥰
Vik Z — Google review
Within easy 5 minute walking distance from town. Plenty of car parks around town to use. This is part woods, part fields. It's not particularly large and after 35 minutes we had done it. Not suitable for pushchairs. Walking boots advised as muddy in areas. Great for walking dogs, and if you head to the field up the hill there is a small children's play area. No toilets or food facilities.
R J — Google review
Lovely place to walk the dogs, free car parking, and everyone we met seemed happy and friendly
Mick H — Google review
Nice Park to take a wonder around. Free parking at the Copice in Belper, also worth a walk around. Then when you're hungry, try eating out at one of the many home grown eateries (avoid the chains) or having a drink at one of the number of craft ale bars, cocktail bar, or sports pubs (if that's your thing). Always stuff on (such as the wollen woods) so get on t'internet to see whats kicking off...and get joining in!

Great place to walk amongst nature, very popular with dog walkers and people wanting to chill

Excellent service and quality frames. We have used Hall of Frames for all our precious pictures, today we picked up two representing a lifetime trip. The pictures in the frames are just outstanding. So pleased, thank you 🤩

Recently picked up the framing of memorabilia, I was absolutely buzzing on collection. They have a real good eye for attention to detail and I’d recommend to anyone thinking of getting anything framed there.

In the past I have made small purchases from this shop of quality products. As a result I have just had three expensive aviation prints framed here. What a splendid job they have done too. Beacause of the good work done on my previous prints I have now taken another print that is very precious to me in for minor repair and re-framing. I would reccommend this business to anyone.
Mel S — Google review
We had some precious family photos to get framed, they could not have been done any better. They have a huge range of materials to create bespoke frames for individual items. In addition there a large variety of "off the shelf" frames, and a wonderful selection of original artworks and prints. Unfortunately we have no blank walls in our house, otherwise we would be very tempted to go on a spending spree!

Brilliant framing establishment. Prices are reasonable and they did not take advantage of the fact I openly admitted I didn't have a clue what I wanted when framing a picture for a gift. Provided excellent advice to me and would visit them again definitely for all my framing needs.

Beautiful, relaxing, clean with benches near the memorial, and bins so you can leave the place tidy or take your rubbish away. Named are the soldiers who lost their lives from belper in ww2. An array of flowers and flower beds. A must visit if in belper

A pleasant garden to visit when in Belper. The gardens are dedicated to those Belper folk who made the ultimate sacrifice during war for their country. There's a war time bunker underneath the lawns, but due to Eleven Saphti it is rarely open to the public. The flower beds are well maintained by Belper Town Council and usually have some kind of display. The pictures I've attached are from the Belper Well Dressing event (2022) where town folk construct blessings artwork on beds of clay using natural materials to form the patterns.

Lovely, relaxing, peaceful memorial gardens to just contemplate in a quiet moment to remember those we have lost in conflict, have a bite to eat/picnic or just sit and fall asleep in the sun. Wonderful flower arrangements at different times of the year and well maintained

What a place this is! We arrived in the town of belper and parked up in the free coppice car park. We then made our way trying to find the elusive memorial gardens! We took a couple of wrong turns and ended up down a big hill in some grannies back garden. We went back on our tracks, somehow found a random footpath, and like abracadabra, bobs ya uncle, aunts ya fanny we were in the beautiful memorial gardens! Here we setup shop and were part of the audience watching the Aspire Wrestling alliance putting on a variety of shows for all the hundreds of local belperites in attendance. I must say pal, the weather was a little weird today, we experienced everything from rain 🌧 cloud ☁️ to beaming hot sunshine 🌞 3 portaloos for anyone needing to spend a penny, a popup bar and plenty of live singers were all in action here today. The madhatters would of been a proud bunch today, the event was a massive success albeit being a little wet early doors 🚪 the bread woman on king street sold all her loaves.........she best get baking more for next year! Till then sunshine.......keep smiling 😃

Lovely little park. Last time I was here it was cold and peaceful but there were lots of people sitting on benches, meeting each other, socially distanced in these Covid19 times. This time it was sunny and warm, lots of people, most still wearing masks in shops, but enjoying a little Arts festival.

Great place in town centre with many venues as set dates throughout the year. Highly recommended for a visit. At weekends the people for local pubs leave a lot of rubbish there, as all bins are overflowing. It's a shame for a lovely place in town.

De Bradelei Mill - Shopping Village is located in the historic George Brettle and Co. building, which dates back to 1834. This shopping center has been a popular destination for over 20 years, offering a wide range of men's and women's clothing, homeware, and more. The village features various stores and eateries including clothing shops, shoe stores, bedding outlets, kitchenware stores, an antiques center as well as a restaurant and cafe.
Shopping Centre in one of the historical Mills in Belper, Derbyshire. Accessibility - there is a lift in one corner of the Mill, a small car park in front. A whole range of stores and eateries including: # clothes # shoes # bedding # kitchenware etc. Car Park - small one to the front with parking for disabled. Larger retail Car Parks near by. Toilets - inside the Centre.
Nerys J — Google review
Large shopping outlet for clothes, shoes, household goods and bed linens for people over 50 plus, both men and women. Cafe also on site but rather pricey so go across the way and use Morrison's
Dennis H — Google review
The Antiques Centre is now closed. The lift to the 2nd floor toilets is no longer working. Used to be a regular visit; no longer.
Stuart B — Google review
Only really visited for the antiques centre which has a good variety of items and various dealers. We were lucky to be able to park very close in a car park which allows 3 hrs free. The big down point is that the antiques centre is on the first floor only accessible via steep steps. Anyone with mobility issues would have a real problem.
John J — Google review
There used to be a great antique centre but the money grabbing landlord forced it to close. The rest of it is drab, outdated and poorly maintained and probably not long of this world. Destined for conversion to flats I think. Don’t bother.
Nick S — Google review
Awful rude staff in the department where the only toilets are. No signage anywhere to point you to lifts for customers. I'm Disabled, the lift is extremely tiny and doesn't give access to the Antique dept. The Disabled toilet is Padlocked. No sign on door to tell you to get the key in clothing dept. I had to use one of the tiny toilets, as the seat was broken in one cubicle. Sat on the toilet in the 2nd tiny cubicle, only to find that seats broken and I fell against the wall. I reported broken seats to 3 ladies at the till. Not in least interested or apologetic. I asked about Disabled toilet, got another negative answer about children vandalism, pointed out lack of sign as to where to get key, oh we'll mention it? I pointed out about RADAR key, not our problem. Pointed out it's discrimination, not our problem. So we left. Stood waiting for the claustrophobic lift, that smells fusty and quite clearly heard the 3 staff members pulling me to pieces. Anyone needing quick access to a Disabled toilet, my advise, don't go there. The clothes are for elderly and very expensive. The High St selection boring. Shoe shop interesting. No signage to any cafes in the Mill. The only Cafe we found was Lauren's in the Courtyard. Distant and abrupt staff member but they were short staffed, so I'll forgive them, as the Toasties was amazing with a Full Side Salad. The clothing side and staff attitude and lack of Accessibility means we'll stick to its sister Mill, at Armstrong in Ilkeston, once the flooding has receded and their lift is restored. Sorry Belper but you've lost our custom.
Vikki F — Google review
Has a great selection of shops, lovely cafe but mainly lift is broken and the other doesn't give full access to antiques centre making it inaccessible for wheelchair users. If this issue is ever fixed, I'll give it 5 stars.

Pub
The Green House in Belper is a delightful spot that truly impresses with its offerings. Recently, I indulged in a vegetarian breakfast that surpassed my expectations; everything was served hot and cooked to perfection, especially the runny egg and delicious vegetarian sausage. My partner also enjoyed his breakfast burger, making it clear that this experience was far superior to our usual Wetherspoons visits. On another occasion, we stopped by for a quick drink and shared some plates outside—great value and very enjoyable!
We just popped in the Green House in Belper for a quick drink and a bite to eat. We sat outside and has some plates to share, which were good value and very pleasant. The pub has a wide selection of beer, wine and spirits and the staff were very professional and friendly. Would certainly recommend it.

Club baguette....barely any chicken and it's all cold and soggy. Worst meal ever. Absolutely shocking. No kids cutlery and no kids plate. £18 wasted. Not even asked if everything is ok till i was about to leave. . Only 10 tables in. offered another meal 3 minutes before i needed to leave Someone else complained to.

Perfectly acceptable pub that would be great for watching sporting events. Usual fair of basic foods, all day breckies an chicken strippers, washed down with decent selection of lagers with an average selection of other booze. Recommend particularly when the footie is on

Bottomless brunch was excellent value for money! Our servers, Kat and Sarah were very attentive, despite the bar being very busy! We didn’t go without a drink for whole 2 hours and the choice of food was good, compared to other bottomless brunch places. Would highly recommend.

I had a lovely vegetarian breakfast here at the Green House yesterday , it exceeded my expectations. The food came out promptly and it was lovely and hot. My egg was nice and runny and everything was cooked beautifully. The vegetarian sausage was delicious. My partner and I usually go to Wetherspoons but this breakfast was much nicer. My partner also enjoyed his breakfast burger. The food was good value for money and we are definitely coming back!

4 of us had the bottomless brunch on a Sunday afternoon, and it was great. The drinks were flowing, thanks to Edie, who kept us well topped up with prosecco and cocktails for the full 2 hours. The food was good, plenty of different choices, and swaps were made to one of the dishes with no problem at all (this may be different when it's busier) The atmosphere was relaxed and informal, and we were allowed to chill after our bottomless brunch had finished, and we did indulge in a couple more cocktails that weren't included with our brunch. Overall, I would recommend The Greenhouse, I enjoyed a chilled afternoon with friends, and would happily go again.

First ever visit to Belper let alone here. Public car park at the rear. Pay and display. Table booked prior to visit. Lovely. Greeted by the barman who told us where our table was then served us. Food arrival was quick and hot. Atmosphere was good and not too noisy that you couldn't hear one another speak. Will visit again and thank you.

Fish & chips restaurant
Nik's Signature Fish & Chips is a well-established chain that offers a variety of options such as sausages, pies, and seafood snacks. They are known for their outstanding fish and chips, which are accompanied by excellent service. The staff members are friendly, particularly one young girl with brown hair and glasses who left a lasting impression. The food is fantastic and the service is quick.
Just popped into Nicks Fish and chips whilst in the belper area & yet again, they didn’t disappoint. You can’t go wrong with the lunch time special deal they have on I think it’s around £2.40 for this portion size with a sausage & a choice of sauce. The curry sauce is always my favourite as it’s a little different than normal chip shop curry sauce which I think gives it an edge over other chip shops. All in all for the price and quality you can’t go wrong.

Fantastic fish and chip shop / restaurant in Belper - great options for Veggies and Vegans too. The two of us enjoyed eating in the restaurant next to the takeaway shop, with my partner reporting the battered cod as beyond compare, and myself delighted to snaffle up their last vegan chicken and mushroom pie. The mushy peas and chips (not greasy or undercooked!) were fairly generous and very tasty. Ultimately, a great feed at decent value.
Benjy S — Google review
We ordered two pensioners meals both at reasonable prices. We ordered within 5 minutes but waited a total of nearly half an hour while the waitress potted about making tea, cleaned tables etc. The fish was freshly cooked and delicious, the peas and chips were both lukewarm. Our previous visits was a couple of year’s previous and the service and food has gone downhill since then. The waitress was friendly and helpful but it appears that waitressing and preparing the meals is too much for one person leading to a long wait and poor quality and lukewarm meals.

Very good chippy sat indoors not to busy for a Sunday good service Chips were good and the fish also batter was nice and crispy came with mushy Peas and tartare sauce we try and come when we are in the area always good would recommend

We traveled two and a half hours 8 and a half months pregnant with our child and two elderly family members and friends there was 8 of us in total, the food was really nice however the lady serving, with blondish / ginger hair working on the 20th September around quarter 12 was berry abrupt and unhelpful, we suggested given that I'm pregnant and we had elderly and a child with us that we have our drinks before the food and was met with an abrupt response, there was no smile or customer care what so ever, my husband was left helping the rest of the customers enter the shop all of which either had a disability or were elderly pensioners and again there was no thank you or hurry to assist, this made us really uncomfortable considering he and my uncle were the only people of another race in the shop, extremely disappointing. The food was nicely cooked, however abit on the pricey side. Customer service is key especially in hospitality, it's a shame that we will not be returning on our next visit to belper.

Ive been in quite a few times and almost every time there's this one brown haired teenage boy who serves me, he is so sweet and has great customer service skills. Cafe
Nestled in the charming town of Belper, The Bookcafe is a delightful haven for book lovers and coffee enthusiasts alike. This cozy spot offers more than just a selection of books and brews; it’s an inviting space where you can unwind and enjoy a leisurely meal. With its comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff, and an upstairs dining area, it's perfect for both solo visits or romantic outings.
On my visit into the town of Belper I called into this great little cafe, it's very comfortable and has a very pleasant atmosphere, it's a great place to relax and unwind... There's also an upstairs dining area... I just had a coffee and a small breakfast which was delicious ... The menu has a great choice of dishes to choose from and is very reasonably priced ... If you find yourself in Belper which is a small Derbyshire town and you're wanting to spend a day here, then popping into the Bookcafe even if just for a cake and a coffee would be a great way to spend a very pleasant hour of your time ... I'm definitely calling in again on my next trip to Belper and I'm sure so will you when you visit this wonderful little cafe...

Belper Bookcafe: Well, what can I say; at face value... Books and coffee, two things I really appreciate. However, this stop in Belper turned out to be much more than just books and coffee. I came here with my partner on a spontaneous whim.... And I'm so glad we did, we had a lovely time and vow to return in the future. The café is in an excellent spot, with dedicated parking which is free for up to two hours - anything more requires a permit from the café. As it turned out, 2 hrs was more than enough for us to have an elegant sufficiency :) The building is two storey with customer dining on both the ground and first floor. There is also outside seating to be enjoyed when the sun is out. We opted for the ground floor as it seemed more sociable and we didn't want to disturb people reading upstairs. The decor and atmosphere inside is one of the things I appreciated the most, it's rustic and industrial, with lots of interesting features.... And old books which really brings the name of the café to life. The food was delicious, we ordered from the breakfast menu which was mostly locally sourced and was well worth paying that bit extra for.... Coupled with a coffee, it went down a real treat. The staff were very friendly and service was what you would expect from an establishment that strives to deliver excellence. Polite and friendly which adds to the overall experience. Before leaving we had to take a coffee and a slice of homemade cake for later on - yummy 😋 All in all, very happy with our stop and we will definitely be making a return visit in the future. Thank you

Unfortunately, the Greek Salad did not meet expectations. Hardly any feta (crumbs at best) mainly leaves with dressing. Disappointment. Also a member of the group tried to pay with card - 2 cards not accepted so gave up!

Had a lovely breakfast here and it was a brilliant experience. The cafe is really thoughtfully designed and decorated, giving it a cosy yet modern feel. I presume this mustn't have been easy, considering the building is listed! Ordering was super easy (seat yourself and the option to order digitally via QR code is available if preferred). Lots of options for various dietary preferences and our meals came promptly. I thoroughly enjoyed my vegan breakfast and my partner loved his "fully Derbyshire" (particularly rating the bacon, despite not being a massive fan of it normally!). My partner also took a brownie to go, which he has since eaten and reliably informs me was also very nice! We wanted to tip after our meals but only change was accepted (which we didn't have), so that's the only comment we have re: areas for improvement!

Had a southern fried chicken wrap and iced latte. Big portions so it was worth the price. Had to wait quite a while for food but there was friendly service.

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff but the vegetarian grill was meatless but everything was deep fried to death which left me feeling a little queazey. I do think I picked the wrong dish as many of their other dishes looked very good liked the eggs and mushrooms and the avocado on toast with eggs.

This cafe is in the old Orangery at Belper. The refurb has brought back much of the character that was stripped out by McDs. The food was fine - quite tasty but not outstanding. However, the quantity of the portions was not great for the price. The fried halloumi was nice and tasty but there were only a few pieces. The falafel were nice and (I think they were homemade - which is a bonus) but only a few of them. The leaves of the salad were of good variety but they felt a little soft and bland. For the price (£20.05 for what was basically an open wrap, cup of tea, bowl of soup and a glass of orange juice) I felt that it was a little pricy. I really do understand the pressures that small businesses are under at present but overall I felt somewhat underwhelmed.

The atmosphere is really welcoming, the staff was very helpful, food arrived quick and it was delicious. Loved the decor and the sound of people chatting, laughing, having a great time. So good for the soul🥰

Pub
Nestled in the charming corner of Belper Market Place, The Angels Micropub is a delightful haven for craft beer enthusiasts. This quaint establishment boasts an impressive selection of beers and ciders, all served fresh from the keg, ensuring a top-notch experience with every sip. The inviting atmosphere is complemented by outdoor seating equipped with blankets and heaters, perfect for enjoying your drink al fresco. Inside, you'll find simple yet cozy decor that fosters great conversations among friendly locals.
Great micropub tucked away in the corner of Belper market place. Located in an old, interesting building with some seating outside, and fairly plain decor/seating inside. This is an absolute gem with a good selection of beers poured direct from the keg/barrel which are on view behind the bar. The beer is very well kept, and snacks are available. I tried the cheese and onion sandwich which was wonderful and complemented the beer. Friendly locals. Will definitely visit again.

Great place for interesting cask ales and cider. Old fashioned style, relaxed atmosphere good for conversation. Always a friendly welcome. Plum Porter Titanic a favourite here. Easy to miss but not hard to find. Walk up to the top of King Street, tucked away in the corner of Belper Market Place. Dog friendly :)

A really excellent selection of real ale and cider. Nice atmosphere. Dog friendly (which is great) but let down by the fact that people think it acceptable for their animals to sit on chairs. Not very sanitary. A pity.

First visit as it's usually not open when I'm in Belper. Good beer choice, all from the barrel. Titanic plum porter ✅️👍 Friendly service. Well worth a visit.

Well, beer five star too...Lovely little pub with cosy, homely atmosphere. Excellent beer and very friendly behind the bar. Finally made it and am looking forward to going back.

Great little pub serving ale and cider straight from the barrel/keg. Good selection. Seems to be an old mess or community space. Friendly service and interesting, happy locals when I went in on a sunny day. Outside seating. Highly recommended, especially if you’re into cider! 🍺 🍎 🐕

October 2022 Update: The Angels Micropub has survived the dreadful pandemic! Still one of the best places to have craft beer around town. Still rather eccentric opening hours (Thursdays to Sundays only), like many micros. Along with the newly established The Belper Tap, The Angels Micropub is your best option by far in Belper for a pint of craft ale or cider. It is a hidden gem indeed, tugged into the far corner of Market Place - you have to be very close to the northern east corner to actually see it's there. It has a narrow patio area with a few outside tables, and the single room in the pub holds only about 30 people. The range of carefully selected real ales (directly from the cask) is excellent, as is the one for craft cider. And they're only 3 quid a pint, no matter how high the ABV is. I had three excellent pints there: two beers (Titanic Plum Porter, Plummeth Grand Cru) and a flavorful cask-matured cider (Thistly Cross Whisky Cask). The young woman who was running things on the day was extremely friendly and welcoming, herself an enthusiast for real ale and cider. The atmosphere is very friendly, and you can always strike up a conversation with a fellow punter. Note: The Angels is open only between Thursday and Sunday! Cannot recommend this superb place enough: Keep up the good work!

A lovely cosy micropub. Always a warm and friendly welcome from the staff and regulars. Really well kept extensive selection of beer. Best Jaipur around. Always worth a pop in.
