Incredibly well thought out park. I was expecting a theme park similar to Grona Lund, but this was smaller and better quality. The zoo was a great experience, good mix of exotic and farm animals. 10/10 will definitely be back again

It was a good place, I would recommend more animals perhaps and more chairs to sit in, I know it was many but since it was so many people sitting we really had hard time finding place to sit, all the games were fun too but honestly the guy who hold the bumping cars was really annoying, didn't let our kid to go in because he was literally short for 2cm only and his dad was going with him anyway, but the same son could go on the roller coasters for big kids, like for real, other than that it was a fun day for tbe kids and had so much fun
Great family trip! Highly recommended for young families with kids. You get the best out of the worlds zoo and theme park!
Was there to see Alphaville and they were brilliant.
There was around 9000 visitors at the park and apparently it is alot.
10-30 min wait times for the rides and kiosks ran out of bottled water fast, only alkohol was left.
It is a small park, if you bring your kids prepare a bag with refreshments to avoid the insane lines at kiosks.
Parking is free for members, around 90-120kr/day depending on where you park.
The traffic jam leaving the park was huge but if common sense is used (seems to be lacking in many cases), it aint that bad.
Although it is a bit far from Stockholm, it is well connected by train and is convenient to access. The advantage is that there are fewer people, so you can enjoy it without waiting in long lines. It is very well decorated for children and the prices are reasonable. If there's anything I regret, it's Parking lots are collected by the day, not by the hour. Who will park for a day?
It is small compared to other animal theme park in Sweden. But it is still a good place for kids to enjoy. Unfortunately water park was closed since we visited late summer or early fall.
The park is really good, especially for children. We started with the amusement park. There were some machines for small kids, about 2-3 years old. And also for older kids like roller coaster, bumper cars. There was not a long line to use the machines, but it might be different for more crowded days. There were enough places to eat but mostly fast food. What I didn't like in the park was the pool. It was really crowded even though we went around 5pm and of course it is hard to keep it clean. We wanted to take a shower before going to the pool but there are only two showers (no showers in the changing room) and you have to wait your turn (some people finish their business in the pool and their shower takes longer). It would be better if there were two different showers, one for people who only want to wet their bodies and one for people who want to wash with shampoo.
This is truly one of the better family parks I have visited. I was most impressed by the zoo and its rich content. The animals look healthy and well cared for, which is not always the case in all parks of this species. In addition, children can play here in the amusement park, and then swim in the Baltic Sea. There are also several restaurants and bars on offer, so you certainly won't be hungry if you haven't brought food with you. I definitely recommend visiting this place if you are nearby, you will be able to have quality fun all day.

The Swedish Railway Museum, located in the lively town of Gavle on the coast of the Bothnian Sea, offers a family-friendly experience with its extensive collection of old locomotives and rail cars. The museum, which moved from Stockholm to Gavle in 1970 for more display space, features real trains that visitors can climb inside. Additionally, there is a linesman's cottage on-site.
More interesting bits of history then you might expect. Has the worlds oldest steam locomotive that is restored to running order.
Has a picnic area where you can bring your own food, which is odd for a museum, but neat. Well worth a visit. Also boys of all ages love big machines!

This is one of biggest train museum in Sweden. There are absolutely a lot to watch. Take a look at my videos and photos. I didn't expect this much things in the railway museum and it ended up with satisfaction. I'm recommending this place to whoever in love with history of railways. At the end there is a game station kids can play train rides. Outside has a small play area. There is a restaurant area at the entrance. You can have lunch buffet or simple meal there. Washrooms are available. As my experience, I have travelled from Luleå to Kullaberg. In this trip this train museum was a biggest exiting place. It has a lot to see than Örebro castle. örebro castle was a waste of time.Highly recommend train museum.

The experience was amazing, i was expecting a small museum with som dusty trains, but instead i got a drive through swedish railway history from tiny details, to big trains, swedish railway culture , comfort, design. Best 3 hours spent on a saturday. I recomend it, although come early it can get busy , there was a buffe/ restaurang but did not try it. 👌👍
Newly renovated after a very long closed time. Modern showroom of trains from the oldest to the newest and playful things for the kids along the way. It would be good if the showroom exit would be at the end to get a better flow of people but as long as there are not too many people it will work. Excellent outdoor activities for children, especially the mini train that everyone can ride.
You can chose to bring your own food or buy in the restaurant, then eat in an old train wagon. Microwave oven is available as well.
Excellent museum with relaxed feel, lots of information and the opportunity to enter some of the trains on exposition.
I had been waiting since 2019 for the museum to reopen!
Loved:
- The chronological ordering of locomotives, and the corresponding social, technical and organizational aspects.
- Concise information boards, videos in Swedish along with English translations.
- The large turntable is worth viewing.
- Scale models for display.
- Kid-friendly(indoor play area, outdoor park, small train ride).
Can be improved:
- The shop/butik. It needs much more items ranging from fridge magnets to scale models of SJ locomotives and carriages.
- While they have covered the history and provided a glimpse of futuristic trains, I don't recall seeing a summary of how train traffic looks today(2010-2024) in terms of freight, passenger and military services.
- Turntable is action. It is perhaps the largest turntable in Sweden, and the visitors would love seeing an engine being turned by a single person.
- Guided tours in both Swedish and English, even if they decide to charge for the same.
- Add another railbus between 1312 and 1512 hours during the peak season.
It is a must-visit for railfans, and also for families willing to get a glimpse of trains of past and future. It is undoubtedly one of the top 10 Swedish museums that I have seen till date.

This is the number One restaurant in Gävle. There is no place that can match what they offer here. The food is just spectacular and is to me at least a One-Star Michelin. It is just stunning how good the food is here. Believe me when I say: You need to visit this place.
The atmosphere inside is very good, it feels very open and not cramped at all. it feels like there's just a lot of space even though it's a tiny restaurant.
Service is absolutely top, the staff is very happy and will spend time explaining the dishes, the drinks, and just anything you'd want to talk about. Me personally, I got given the method of making their cherry-juice. Which is used as a sauce.

It's the second time I visit Gavle and the second time I visit Matildas so one can say they've left their mark on me. I had the turbut and I have to say it was really good! Also a big fan of the bread and butter that's served right in the beginning. This place is really nice and cozy and the service is alright. A bit on the pricier side for my non-swedish standards but worth it.

Super good services, excellent food. The vegetarian options are delicious and the chef had no problem serving a vegan versions for both starter and entre. Don't forget to order a cocktails before dinner, they are very creative and tasty.

West side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the west side side of town. Start the day off with Gävlebocken, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Gasklockorna Gavle. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Gävlebocken

Gävlebocken is a large straw goat located in Castle Square, Gävle, constructed by local business owners during the Christmas season. It has become a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of the holiday spirit in the area. However, it has also gained notoriety for being repeatedly targeted by pranksters who attempt to set it on fire. Despite this, visitors are encouraged to see it adorned with lights at night and learn about its history before visiting.
Well worth a visit to the gavlebocken between the first Sunday in advent and new years. Not far to walk from the parking garage I centrum. Wheelchair and dog friendly. Near plenty of cafes and not far to walk to visit gamlagävle.

It's a very good experience to see this. When ever someone says gavle I will remember this.
It's basically a place in middle of gavle where everyone is taking pictures....You will find it very easily.
Tip is to go during night when it's all decorated in lights. Read about it before you go...So that you will know why people try to burn it. Since 1966 it was burned down 5-6 times I guess.
You know Christmas is near when you see the bock. So pretty and so big. Even though I lived in Gävle for more than 10 years, I still got excited every time I see the Bock. Highly recommend everyone to visit Gävle at least once in December to see beautiful Bocken ❤️

A giant goat made of hay and you never know wgether it stands there or has already burnt and everyone can bet on its fate, plus watch it online. Crazy enough to earn 5 stars, I felt so excited to go and see it while it was still there ha ha MUST-SEE!
Gävle's number one turist attraction. Definetly worth a visit if you are passing Gävle during December, unless it has already burnt down for the year which happens every now and then.

Gavle is about 1.5 hours from Stockholm city. The same old picturesque park for picnic walks jogs and leisure time.. Doesn't give you a great vibe though. But still a great place to spend quality time.. Beautifully laid out paths to the central station and downtown is a good feature around here..

It seems very natural and quite place for me. Whenever I have time, I come here to spend a quality time with the birds and the ducks. You can sit beside the river though. And there is a place for children to play.

Sveriges Fängelsemuseum, located in a former engine shed in Gavle, offers an excellent exploration of Sweden's railway history through interactive displays. The museum also delves into the history of prisons in Sweden, showcasing the evolution of society and criminal justice. Divided into two parts, it features exhibits on prison life, rooms, tools as well as punishment and medieval tortures. Visitors can immerse themselves in the sounds that evoke the spirit of prison life.
A refurbished Jail, that now has bright colours and lights in all places.. That used to be a darker place with less lighting. You can really take yourself back in time if you just imagine it a bit darker and unfriendlier.
As for a spot to visit, this is great for both kids and adults. Nothing scary about the place now as it is a museum. Nice information about its history. Loads of genuine artefacts.

Such a lovely idea to transform old prisons into museums and share prisons and some prisoners' stories. The staff was friendly and really helpful as well. :) I would recommend visiting this museum, even if you don't know Swedish.

There is not much to see, you can go and have a look on the castle in the same time. Interesting swedish history but need better presentation. Wish it would be like London's Dungeons.
You can listen audio excursion on English, but I think it is too short. Museum can be devided by 2 parts. First part is museum of prisen mode of life, rooms, tools. Second part is museum of panishment and medieval tortures. In every place you can hear sounds which made prisen spirit: crying, iron sawing
Must see if you are interested in jail history.
Very helpful staff and a nice exhibition in a historic building. There is another former jail like this in Stockholm, which is a hotel now.
Interesting indeed. Among the first of it's kind. Inmates are confined to a small room in isolation from each other. But treated ok despite being convinced. Not like in the old days when public punishment was norm. This is not a huge museum but it is worth the effort. I suppose it is a pale comparison to, let's say Alcatraz. But anyways. Cool visit nevertheless. Next door you can visit Slottsfängelset. Which predates the prison and go back as far as 1500. In the cells or dungeons you might say, are som sad stories to read on the previous inmates.

The entrance is free, which is a big plus. The museum store is well-stocked, sadly it's difficult to find a Gävle postcard. Regardless, it's a must visit in Gävle.

Best thing is walkable from city center and it’s free to visit.
A really good museum with a focus on art and industrial handicrafts. There are some impressive paintings and the ceramics and textile collections are outstanding. The museum really succeeds in linking Gävle and the surrounding region to the wider world. There's a small cafe and book store and good temporary exhibitions.If you are here at Christmas don't miss the largest gingerbread house in the world!

Were at a fantastic concert here and the sound was awesome
It was one of my best festival experiences. Everything in Gefle Metal Fest was great, the weather, the sound, food, toilets, the bands! and even the shops and the accessories that they were selling.

It is a business restaurant #1 for Gävle. Its safe and good quality but not exciting. Not knowing much about specific wines can be met with crude jokes (or lecture ) without reason. Boulognerskogen is a vast park located in Gavle, Sweden, just a short walk from the city center. Established in 1865 on land purchased from the church, it was named after Paris' Bois de Boulogne. Good food, nice dessert but very few beer variety but really good steaks, good place to go out for afterworks with colleagues, nice ambience and friendly staff, have English menus even though staff doesn't speak very fluent English but they are still hospitable you might find it awkward at times but hey nothing matters if the food is good, very close to the central station and other pubs like trivs and Harry's.
Meat quality is good but the whole on your own stone cook experience just feels gimmicky. Side dishes are premade, acceptable but nothing more.
Excellent restaurant. The meat is served on your very own 420 degrees C lavastone, so you will fry the meat yourself to your own liking. Great experience! Very nice staff! Highly recommended!

Mackmyra Whisky is a renowned distillery located near the town of Gavle in Sweden, just over two hours north of Stockholm. Despite Sweden not being traditionally known for whisky, Mackmyra has garnered numerous awards and accolades for their exceptional whisky-making skills. The distillery recently relocated to a new state-of-the-art facility near Gavle. Visitors can enjoy an informative tour that provides insight into the whisky-making process, including the peat-smoking technique.

Sweden isn't known for it's whisky, but maybe that is changing with Mackmyra who have received a lot of awards and commendations for their whisky making skills. They recently moved production to a new state of the art facility a few miles down the road close to the town of Gävle, located little over two hour drive north of Stockholm. They have a great tour taking you through their process of making whisky including how they smoke the peat. They have two tour options depending on you want to see and you can add on tastings as well but make sure you book as it is popular! The staff are very friendly making it very enjoyable. Interestingly they are starting to produce gin as well as a great tonic so look out for them in the future.
Excellent distillery tour (it was in Swedish only but my guide did a fantastic job of making sure to explain the details to me in English and answer my detailed questions as we walked between the areas of the tour).
The tasting is a great showcase of the different flavor profiles produced through different levels of smoke and different casks. An excellent overview of the flavor profiles Mackmyra can offer.
The bar has an amazing selection of Mackmyra whisky to try at very low prices (for Sweden) and some delicious small plates for lunch or dinner. Also a great place to try some local beers!
All in all an OK experience. The distillery itself is really cool and the tour of the process was exciting. The testing was good, although felt a bit impersonal from time to time.
The area around the distillery has a lot of potential but it feels like more could be done to make it more inspiring.

Food was good. The taste was average but better than other kebab restaurants. We went there between 2-3 on a Saturday and it wasn't that crowded. The atmosphere was decent. I definitely recommend you to try it 🍽️😋
Okay fast food joint with generous portions.
The food is decent and enjoyable if you feel like kebab, and although the environment is a bit noisy it's clean and the staff are polite.
The place gives off a strong franchise feeling, so don't expect a something special that makes it top choice if you have a craving for fast food. But as a late night after-party snack it will suit very well.

I have tried few kebab/doners already around Gävle but this experience was on the top. The beef kebab burger meal of 79kr. is really amazing. It was fresh and good looking too 😬. Fries was also perfect. Ambience is awesome with various types of sitting arrangements. Cleanliness is also top notch..! 👍🏼
Today was our first time in GDK it. It was a great experince. It was crowded but still the food was served warm and it was fast service. The staffs were also friendly. Even one of our friends had custom menu like fries inside wrap and they fix it. Really good job guys. Keep it up.
Terrific tasting kebab and great service!..... The kebab consisted of thinly cut meat with truly fantastic flavouring and the veggies were balanced, plus they had grated beetroot which just added another great tasting element! The hot sauce had a hint of sweetness which matched just right with the spicyness, the other sauce had a really nice flavour (and the fact that they had 2 sauces made me-sauce loving prezin-very happy) I could go on and on about all the details but you have to go try it out! Good service and simply a really tasty kebab!

It is uncommon to come across a restaurant that puts so much attention to detail into making exceptional food. I normally eat in, and this time took takeaway. So many thoughtful touches and the food is always amazing. The other day, I had the best fish and chips I have ever tasted, and this is not hyperbole. Even the coffee is exceptional. Very highly recommended.
We had a disappointing experience. We asked if the meal offered pork, and the staff confirmed there was no pork; however, when the meal arrived, it was contained pork. Despite pointing out the mistake, they only apologized and did not offer to correct it. This lack of proper service and attention significantly marred our visit.
This is a great cafe near Gävle strand. The highlight for me is the lunches which offer exceptional value for money. The cooking is both innovative and tasty. Service is fast and friendly and theres always people in small groups which give it a lively atmosphere. The brunch at weekends is another highlight.
Went with family for lunch. Great and well presented food. Had also fresh pancakes for dessert. Modern and upbeat athmosphere, prices all together more than reasonable. No complaints.

Despite being deep inside the main building and surrounded by offices , this is a public restaurant. Food quality is high with 3 or 4 main choices. It is self service but the restaurant workers are friendly and everything works well. Only minus is the canteen like atmosphere but thats inevitable as 99% of the customers work in the nearby offices. Maybe the biggest restaurant in Gävle.
Several good lunch options to choose from (or to combine) as well as a great salad bar. Soft drinks, coffee/tea, and cookies or cakes are included. Add a spacious cafeteria with a nice view to enjoy one's lunch and you realise that this lunch offer is worth every penny.
