Charming place. We stayed in the local community hotel when doing our tour of Sweden for our honeymoon. We were greeted with a Christmass market which we promptly visited while exploring the town. As if taken straight from a postcard. Loved it!

Nice stadium, standing out with the main stand tucked into a building. Besides this nothing spectacular but neither anything to complain about.

When there's an event at the arena the neighbouring area can get crowded in an inconvenient way. Right outside the main entrance there's a roundabout which is troublesome as much to the crowd itself as to the cars driving by

Museum
Nestled within the Kulturmagasinet, Sundsvall Museum offers a captivating journey through local history and art. From ancient artifacts to contemporary exhibitions, visitors can explore the cultural and historical evolution of the region. The museum is a small yet intriguing space that showcases the city's history and surroundings, featuring Viking relics and industrial heritage. With permanent exhibits spanning over 30 years alongside monthly changing displays, it provides an immersive experience for all ages.
We had some time to kill in Sundsvall and decided to check out this museum - what a good decision! Firstly, free entry is appreciated (although the toilets are 5SEK but they're pretty clean so it's understandable), the man at the desk locked our bags away for us, also free of charge. The art gallery has some really beautiful paintings and the history of the city is thorough and interesting with information in English and Swedish. The museum is bigger than expected too which is a nice surprise. The only downside is the collection of artifacts downstairs doesn't have an English description but you can't expect everything to be in English if you're in a country where it's not the first language
Claire W — Google review
Great spot lots of the signs have English translated and kids really enjoyed the Peterson Findus experience. Great for a rainy day .
Jason S — Google review
Very interesting museum with a lot of varous exhibitons, showing history of the city. It is a pity that many descriptions are in swedish only. Yet even without understanding the written part - it is strongly recomended to visit it.
Agnieszka D — Google review
A free museum connected to the City Library. Some exhibits are permanent and have been there for 30+ years, others change monthly. You'll find a ton of really interesting local history ad well as art and interactive exhibits for children. The perfect escape from the rain or cold, just a minute from the main bus station and downtown Sundsvall. You have to oay yo use their bathrooms, but kids can go for free in the children's book section. Check out the in-house cafe that serves traditional "fika"!
Emma O — Google review
This is such a beautiful place. The building itself is worth seeing. Very bright and airy. I didn't have a huge amount of time there but I got to see lots of fascinating exhibits telling the story of Sundsvall and its environs over the years. There is no charge to get in.
Tony G — Google review
The Kultur magasinet was a really relaxed environment, the displays we saw were both interesting and engaging. At the time of visiting there were three displays, an industrial display regarding the history of industry in Sundsvall. The second was a display on animals, I don't have children but I imagine this would be one of the better displays for the children to engage with. The Chief of Hõgom display was awesome, seeing one of the largest burial finds in Norrland was genuinely cool, alespecially with the pieces on display. At the time also there was a display called Carpe Lucem, The Women Who Caught The Light. It detailed the early stages of photography in Sundsvall and the women who enabled it. Last but not least is the architecture of the facility itself. There are port warehouses (hence the name, the culture warehouse) four buildings encapsulated within a glass roof which provides an indoor street between the museum and the public library and a small cafe and sitting area in the centre. I loved the design and overall quality of the facility, its well lit, stunning and a great example of well designed architecture that culminates in a phenomenal public experience.
Nathan — Google review
Free entrance and beautiful building. It also has a library. really enjoyed the visit.

A simple and beautiful place. It's a castle build by a timber magnate between 1883-85. It also used to be residence of skönviks AB in the 1930's. Now it's used as a center for research in industrial history in northern Sweden. Here researchers can study development of ironworks, paper mills, shipyards, glassworks etc.

Nice park surrounding the tiny castle. We didn't get in, and seems like it is only open for the public a few times a year. Was nice as a quick pitstop to stretch our legs after a long car ride.

(Translated by Google) Good and affordable lunch. Good mashed potatoes and well cooked meat that they served. Good portions, hot food and good with side dishes! Very nice staff! Sometimes it can be less well prepared food, like for example once when they served ox cheek which unfortunately wasn't that good, but the majority of times the food has been good.

If you're on the hunt for a quick and delicious bite, Taco Bar is definitely worth a visit! The staff here are incredibly friendly, making your dining experience even more enjoyable. While the food is fantastic—especially their top-notch burritos—be prepared for some seriously spicy hot sauces that pack a punch. Just keep in mind that they only accept card payments.
Super nice staff, food is really good fair warning the hot sauces are really spicy. But still good option to go here for a quick snack. 9.5/10 The only problem I had, that its card only but besides that would recommend

Restaurant
Restaurang Grankotten, located on Norra Stadsberget in Sundsvall since 1901, is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Known for its buffet lunches and traditional Swedish Christmas tables, this restaurant offers a variety of dining options. Whether it's enjoying a fika with waffles and ice cream or hosting special events like weddings and conferences, Restaurang Grankotten has become a go-to spot for delicious meals and gatherings.
We visited for a family wedding, and what a success it was! We were blessed with amazing weather, which made the roof terrace really shine. Great drinks selection, with impressive amount of alcohol free drinks (I was a designated driver and I didn’t feel like I was missing out), and incredible food. We were served a menu heavily influenced by traditional Norrland cuisine, but with a twist. Top marks for service, friendly and absolutely on point at all times.
Alessandro H — Google review
Good drinks, nice quiet 1st floor restaurant for a couple date or family meal. Recommend to go in the evenings during Summer. Food is expensive, somewhat salty but good quality. Service is excellent! Patrons mostly come to enjoy drinks in the rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city.

Unfortunately I can't give more than 5 stars. Because they deserve more! Truly amazing food for an awesome price. Even better and kinder service! Had a really nice talk with the chefs. We will definitely come back here.
Stephan R — Google review
When I first saw the venue I fell in love with it. The veiw over city, the feeling of 70’s- 80’s architecture and so…. We tried a brunch buffet there for 245 SEK and it was not worthy at all. It’s maybe due to that we were there almost late around 14:30 but the serving dishes were so empty and the quality of the food was really low and some how not so well-organized! And the variety of items comparing with the entrance price was really low!
Kamiar R — Google review
Very Good service, the food was really good. The meat was perfect and the price good. The view is amazing.

Discover the best dining experiences in Vasternorrland County, including favorites like Invito, The Bishops Arms Sundsvall, and Udda. Created in 1654 by merging Harnosand County and Hudiksvall County, this region offers a variety of culinary delights. Invito is an elegant restaurant that blends Italian cuisine with flavors from Norrland. Whether you're looking for a casual lunch or an intimate dinner, this establishment provides a delightful experience.
Have visited this restaurant a couple of times and it has been very good every time. Last visit we had pizzas which are probably amongst the best in town.
Jan R — Google review
We visited the restaurant with a party of 12. Had to wait almost 5 minutes to be seated even though there was nobody ahead of us. The food and drinks were good. However the service was awful. The waitress would not check on us and many had empty glasses for the majority of the evening. I ordered a wine to pair with my steak. However, the waiter brought the wine when I ate my last bite of the steak even though I waited a bit to start eating. The beer I ordered after the entrée never arrived. Lovely decor and good food, but the service is atrocious and would not make me return

Definitely fast during lunch time, but Italian just on paper. Overcooked lasagna and pasta with bacon would ashamed any Italian cook. Stale cookies served with coffee. Food might be better a’la Carter’s but not willing to try. Fast service and low quality food for lunch.

The restaurant looked good and had good seating outside with some evening sun, reviews were good- so we went in and we waited to be seated for 5min or so. 3 waiters were walking around and did not attend, there was another party waiting even longer. We tried to talk with a waiter and he ignored us, just carrying on doing something. So we just went and picked a table ourselves. We had to get the attention/call a waiter for every step. All waiters looked angry and frustrated (or just tired). Other guests around us were frustrated and tried to call them to order or pay. W had pizza and ceasar salad. Food was really good, pizza was actually excellent.
