Amble Harbour Village is a charming traditional fishing village located on the Northumberland coast, offering stunning views of the coastline. The village boasts a unique retail experience with 15 pods selling various items such as gifts, art, jewelry, food and drink. Additionally, there is a seafood center offering locally caught seafood and a lobster hatchery. Known as the friendliest port in England, Amble hosts an annual puffin festival and features brightly colored beach huts.
Lovely weekend market on Saturdays and Sundays! The pods near the market have a company called Geordie Banger Co. They do lovely sausages and they've started doing their own mc muffins and it was so delicious. Lovely day here with the family. See attached pictures of the views!
Jack D — Google review
Good selection of retailers, I visited to grab a sausage roll from Geordie Banger Co and coffee from Mocha Mondo Coffee. Both excellent, both highly recommended. Plenty of parking nearby, with plenty to see with some seating. I took away one star because what it really needs is a dedicated covered seating area, otherwise makes a great stopping off point.
Simon F — Google review
This is certainly worth a visit if you're in Amble. There are a range of pods from a 'Geordie Bangers' (a purveyor of exceptionally high quality and tasty baked pork products) to coffee shops, and trinket / souvenir outlets, all at reasonable prices. In addition, the bar / restaurant also down in the village area - The Old Boathouse - though a bit more pricey than other eateries in the area, offers a friendly welcome and good food. Its USP though, is the views of harbour whilst eating or drinking - actually worth the bit extra you will pay.
Antony G — Google review
Amble was a lovely village and harbour close to where we were staying so had a few visits for shops and Fish & Chips too. Lovely watching sunset there too.
Denise H — Google review
We take the scenic coastal road from Bamburgh, passing through Seahouses, where brightly painted boats bob back into harbour, bringing happy sightseers home from trips to the Farne Islands. These rocky islets are now a protected seabird sanctuary, home to puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes, but in centuries past they were places of solitude and refuge for saints such as St. Cuthbert, who lived on Inner Farne in the 7th century. The coast also recalls the courage of Grace Darling, the lighthouse keeper’s daughter, whose daring rescue of shipwrecked sailors in 1838 from nearby Longstone Lighthouse captured the nation’s heart. Further along, the road brings us to the romantic ruins of Warkworth Castle, its towers rising proudly above the River Coquet. Built in the 12th century, the castle was a stronghold of the powerful Percy family, Dukes of Northumberland. Its unusual heart-shaped keep, begun in the late 14th century under the first Earl of Northumberland, makes it one of the most distinctive castles in England. We pause in Amble, a harbour village at the mouth of the Coquet, where colourful cottages overlook the estuary. The walk towards the marina is peaceful, though the skeletal remains of sunken boats protruding at the river mouth hint at the town’s more turbulent seafaring past. Cormorants dive and resurface playfully on the water, while the harbour hums with new life. Small wooden huts now line the quay, transformed into quirky shops selling local crafts, seafood, and sweet treats. We stop for fish and chips – freshly fried, golden, and piping hot – without doubt some of the best we’ve tasted in ages. Back at the car, we continue south along the coast, reflecting on a journey that has woven together history, nature, and character in every stretch of shoreline.

Amble is lager than we expected nice people good shops not many empty and closed. Very good ice cream parlour/tearoom. Some good eateries, not cheap.

Seafood restaurant
The Old Boathouse is a charming eatery located in a former Royal National Lifeboat Institute building overlooking Amble Harbour. It has been recognized as the Coastal Fish Restaurant of the Year twice and offers a rustic bistro setting where guests can enjoy local seafood caught through sustainable fishing practices. The menu includes delectable dishes such as lobster, bread crumbed Hake, whole Seabass, and a sharing platter featuring the best seafood from the region.
We visited for my birthday and was not disappointed at all. The selection was great, with several optional specials on the board too. When the food arrived it was spectacular. Full of flavour, looked amazing and tasted great. Will definitely be going back

We ate at The Old Boat House on the first night of our three night stay in Amble. Definitely a good choice. The choice of fish dishes was great and tasted amazing. I had the fish and chips and my husband had the Makeral off the specials board. We hadn't booked but they managed to squeeze us in. I would definitely recommend booking as its a very popular restaurant. We visited the second evening just for drinks and spent a few hours sat outside enjoying the nice weather. We visited again on the third night with the intention of just having drinks but again it was such a lovely evening one drink turned into three so we decided to stay and ordered pizza, which was just as good. The staff are so welcoming and chatty. Nothing is too much for them. I can highly recommend a visit.
Suzanne S — Google review
Fantastic menu with fresh fish and shellfish, great desserts, and cocktails. Friendly service. Everything cooked to order so a slow food experience. Some of the best shellfish I've had.
M M — Google review
The food was impeccable! Incredibly tasty with very good service. The decor was beautiful and so was the views and the food. We were at in a corner table which really did feel like the best seat in the house. The food arrived quickly and promptly, including any extras such as drinks and sides. The seafood was so fresh and cooked to perfection, In our party we had two lobsters, muscles (which were the largest I'd ever eaten!), Hake and king prawns. All was to die for. Was certainly an expensive meal, but I didn't feel short changed at all! Would come back if we ever got the chance - make sure to book as it's a very busy place, you can tell they've really cracked the service and food. Thank you for a wonderful evening on our last evening of our holiday!

Lovely May Day, five of us decided to eat here over looking the sea, we all ordered the same haddock and chips with mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce. It was a lovely fresh fish, chips some of the best I have had, great peas and homemade tartare sauce,All five of us really rated here, freshness of the food, the place it’s self and great friendly staff. Mine £27.20 inc coffee, all said it was good value.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Wasn’t a planned visit , we thought we would try our luck getting a table as it was very busy. Success, we got a lovely table on the side street. My wife had the Fish & Chips, I had the Bass and our son had the kids Pizza. All the food was exceptional, the staff were brilliantly. Highly recommend this place if you get a chance to visit.
Martin C — Google review
Enjoyed a wonderful meal whilst visiting Northumberland. A lovely location by the harbour, warm and friendly welcome, great service, and above all superb food! We went for the seafood sharing platter (pictured) and it was wonderful. A great variety of fresh locally caught fish, mussels and lobster. And for the size of the platter, it was very good value - our only problem was we couldn’t quite finish it all but we gave it a damn good go! Highly recommended and we will definitely return.
Phil K — Google review
The salads that came with the kids’ meal I ordered for my son were full of bugs and dirt! I don’t even want to imagine my 2-year-old eating that. When we showed the bugs to the staff, they apologized and offered free chips. In my opinion, there’s no excuse or compensation for putting bugs on a child’s plate.

When you find yourself in Amble, a visit to Spurreli is an absolute must for any ice cream lover. Nestled in the heart of this charming seaside town, Spurreli specializes in artisan ice cream and sorbet crafted from fresh milk and cream sourced from Marley Cote Walls Farm near Hexham. Their commitment to quality shines through with flavors that highlight local produce, including seasonal berries and even Alnwick Rum.
Absolutely outstanding gelato ice creams!! I recommend the chocolate orange and the pistachio. They also do scones and coffees but no other food like sandwiches.
Stephen P — Google review
Beautiful ice cream. Too many flavours to choose from. But four people, totally enjoyed what they had. We're locals, not holidaymakers but use Spurreli every week. Excellent all the time.
Andrew L — Google review
If you're looking for the perfect chocolate ice cream cone you need to hit up Spurreli! My family and I stopped by and we all had chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone. I've never tasted chocolate ice cream so good before. It had a very creamy texture and wasn't overly sweet. 10/10!
Crimson C — Google review
Came in to get an ice cream and the ice cream was really nice and great value for money. Unfortunately as I entered I was immediately rushed by one of the staff members who didn't really give me enough time to think and seemed quite impatient. I understood there was a small que but it makes the atmosphere feel abit unfriendly if you're rushing people without even greeting them as they go through the door.
Royal P — Google review
Extremely rude service at this store, was close to closing but the old woman worker said we could come and get some ice cream, then had the door locked behind us and and told repeatedly in a nasty tone to hurry up and chose and that she agreed to a few of us not a few hundred… there was 6….(4 being young children) disgusting customer service absolutely appalling!

Located on Amble's beautiful harbor, The Fish Shack is a lively restaurant that offers a variety of seafood including oysters and locally smoked fish. With the option for outdoor dining and scenic water views, this cozy eatery was purpose-built using the old Sea Quest boat, adding to its rustic charm. Whether you're looking for delicious fish and chips or other British seafood options, The Fish Shack provides a delightful dining experience in a picturesque setting by the sea.
Superb dining experience. I wanted to visit here for a while and a few days away in Northumberland gave us the chance. All the food we saw looked amazing, we opted for 5 small.plates rather than just the big meal, mainly because I had to try the scallops with haggis, samphire and carry puree which was divine. I would love to return and try many of the other options. We booked late after noon for that early evening and sat on the dining area, they offer outdoor pods which looked great but I suspect you need to book. I will be back

A beautiful restaurant with stunning views—such a treat! The seafood pot was absolutely delicious, and the burger was just as impressive. The staff were warm and attentive, though service at the shack took a little while. That said, once we were served, everything was fantastic. Huge thanks to the team!

We had a delicious lunch at The Fish Shack. We were lucky to have the upturned boat table which was great. There's a really good menu with excellent seafood and fish. The beer flights were great too. Service was really personable and friendly from the whole team. Special shout-out to Asha who was fun and really good at her job. We look forward to returning.

We had a lovely meal here, a delicious choice of fresh fish, and brilliantly cooked. The shack was cosy, without being small, and the service was great. It's not a super fancy establishment, the quality of the ingredients do the talking.
Tim C — Google review
Wonderful lunch. We enjoyed the fantastic sea food platter which was ample food for 4! Superb array of tasty seafood would highly recommended. Kids also enjoyed their food from the child’s menu. We sat at an outside table overlooking the harbour. They also have fun individual ‘sheds’ with a view which looked very fun and cosy if the weather is inclement.
Jeff L — Google review
Visited for lunch, it was busy and we hadn't made a reservation but we're lucky they had one table for two available. We just wanted small plates, there was varied choice on the menu plus also a daily specials. I had a New England-style chowder with smoked haddock and pancetta, really generous for a small plate (£12.95) with bread on the side, and it was absolutely delicious,.and filling. Husband had scallops with black pudding and haggis (£15.00), big scallops which were cooked perfectly. There were so many other things on the menus we would have liked eat, we'll just have to come back!
Katy F — Google review
Great restaurant. My second visit. Great food and great customer service. Special mention to Asha who was great with my little girl. Lovely views and fab location. Clean too. A little on the expensive side if anything, so might be better for a special occasion or treat if you are worried about cost (my main was £27 but it was on the specials board). But can highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thanks for a lovely time.

Brilliant place. We are a party of fisherman that visit Amble every year. We usually book closer to town. We also don't pay for expensive places. Well you get what you pay for they say. Big rooms that were spotless. Fantastic meal in evening. Secure place and friendly staff. The breakfast was amazing and the place is dog friendly. We are coming back next year. If you book here you will not be disappointed.

We stayed for 4 nights at the Amble Inn in Morpeth and had a really lovely time. The hotel was a lovely place to stay with friendly helpful staff that kept on smiling even when extremely busy. The breakfast menu was outstanding with every breakfast need catered for, we enjoyed an energy boosting full cooked breakfast every morning before our days of adventure began. All the things we wanted to visit were all within 20 miles of the hotel, such as Seahouses, Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and Barter books and more. We got lost once because of a road closure but we enjoyed trying to find our way around on the enchanting country roads, the scenery is beautiful. In the end we were sad to leave which tells me that we had a very good holiday and a holiday that we will repeat at some point in the near future.

Specifically chose The Inn Collection hotel because we knew it was wheelchair accessible. (We stayed in Blyth last year.) Bathroom and toilets were accessible. Good location to use as a base to visit other places. As you can tell on maps, not in a particularly scenic location. However, their outdoor area is pleasant. Comfortable room. Enjoyed our breakfast- self-service. Good coffee. Good music. Would recommend and will be staying in another Inn Collection next year.

It's a very nice pub! The food was excellent and the staff were polite and friendly. Service was prompt and it all came at good value for money. It's a fairly new build, but it has a lovely cosy feeling to it. We would definitely recommend it.
Marc B — Google review
Pleasant environment and front of house staff were friendly enough. The allergy menu was easy to find and user friendly, however I really struggled to find much that was dairy free. I tried to have Korean Venison Ribs but they had run out so I just went with a vegan burger. It was easily the worst thing I've been served in a long time. The bun was wet underneath and at the same time completely solid (couldn't even get a fork in). I ended up taking the burger out and eating it on its own with the chips. The chips at least we're quite nice. Noone asked whether the food had been ok. I wondered if that was because they already knew it wasn't. Anyway what my friend and I really wanted was somewhere to sit and chat which we did and had a good laugh. We both agreed we would go back for a drink but wouldn't eat there again.
Hannah S — Google review
We have stayed here 3 times now but this is the first time we have booked an adaptive room due to my husband having his leg amputated earlier this year. We really like this place but, unfortunately, the 'wet room' was unable to be used by my husband as, due to the wrong camber on the floor, the water never fully drained away leaving the floor too risky for my husband to risk having a shower. He managed to get to the toilet and sink ( very small with no plug!) in his wheelchair, but never risked a shower. Apart from that the stay was, as always very enjoyable, especially as we could get to the microbrewery down the road ( opens at 4pm, very busy, great place). We will be back to the Amble but I won't bother booking an adaptive room again.

We visited this restaurant earlier today and wanted to share our experiences. The welcome at the entrance was warm and genuine and we were quickly shown to our table. The restaurant has been fitted out to a very high standard with a lovely ambiance. We both had the seafood chowder and I also ordered the kippers. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The level of customer service was exemplary and all of the staff were professional and courteous and hospitable. The whole experience warrants a 10/10 and we have no reservations in recommending this establishment to anyone visiting Amble. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for a lovely dining experience. Wonderful! Absolutely gorgeous cafe. We visited as a group of 7. 4 adults, a teenager and 2 children. We were shown to a lovely big table and browsed the menu. Between us we ordered seafood chowders, scones, a prawn sandwich and spiced parsnip and carrot soup. Everything was outstanding. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The staff were fantastic and the location is perfect. We can't wait to return.

Dropped in here for a cuppa. Really nice place, good choice, nice and well prepared food (Gluten free, Vegetarian, Soya milk etc.). The cleanest Cafe I've ever seen! Very nice and conscientious staff (hence the spotlessly clean) and really looked after the disabled customers too.

Eaten at Lily's Landing today for lunch. Nicely greeted by staff member as we arrived, shown to our table, ordered Haddock, chips and mushy peas, we were not disappointed at all, both our fish were as long as our plates, the batter was light and thin, the haddock was beautifully white and chunky, thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. An added bonus that we were able to take our dog with us too. Would recommend you try it.

Every time I come here the food is delicious, well made with top quality ingredients. The whole staff are an absolute pleasure and the service is brilliant. I've been for food a few times and can highly recommend the cooked breakfasts, and the coffee is lovely. Evening cocktails are fabulous too. I'd recommend the espresso martini if you like coffee. Went to the sand bar for breakfast and left very impressed (and full). The cafe is dog friendly and our pups were even spoilt with a treat when our orders were taken. Would fully recommend Sand bar, it's really well placed for the Sunday market too which is worth a look.

We popped in this afternoon and had a lovely late lunch. What a really lovely cafe, not a huge place but it had a lovely atmosphere. It was spotlessly clean, nice music playing, friendly staff and the food was so scrumptious and not expensive either. Think the regular latte could of been bigger it was a small one really, the large is just an ordinary size latte cup. I'm sure we will be back when next in amble. Thanks

Great little bar / cafe in Amble. Decent selection of bottles from local breweries and a good looking selection of food. We nipped in 10 minutes before closing and the staff were fabulous, let us finish our beers while they finished up and gave us lots of tips for things to do in the area. Extra star for being dog friendly too! Love supporting local businesses and when they are as honest as this one it is easy to do.

This is a cosy, friendly little café where the staff go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. If you have any kind of dietary requirements, you'll feel in safe hands as they check everything and even bring it out for you to check. The soup was delicious and I felt in no rush to leave as my incredible oolong tea was refilled. Vegan, veg and gluten free friendly!

A lovely warm atmosphere in this small tea room serving a selection of food and a huge range of loose and herbal teas (also available to buy). We had carrot and mango soup and stottie which was delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful informing us that all food was vegetarian and there was no problem adapting the soup so it was vegan-for which I was grateful for. Teas were well explained and very enjoyable. I highly recommend and will visit again in the future.

Dropped by on a Monday afternoon after our visit to the Alnwick Castle and when we couldn’t get a table at the nearby Grannies, but we were pleasantly surprised by how good the teas (we had the Gyokuro green tea and the Lover’s Lane tea) and the cheese scones are. Lovely little place and very friendly staff, highly recommended!

Excellent tea room. Great variety of teas and enjoyable scones. Worth a stop at while in Alnwick
Dave R — Google review
Lovely little gem in Alnwick for fresh loose leaf tea.. long list of tea choices that you'd struggle to get else where. I love the soup and scone deal.. because their scones are amazing! Especially the fruit ones. They do a wonderful 'proper' hot chocolate too served with marshmallows. Perfect after a cold walk in Northumberland or for a sweet treat.

Lovely relaxed place with friendly service and the widest selection of teas I've seen in some considerable time. A selection of tasty cakes and scones meant that children were happy too!
David K — Google review
If you enjoy tea then this is the place for you! This tea room has a huge selection of teas and it is made to perfection. Some really unusual blends, all excellent quality and perfectly timed to give the best brew. Whilst tea is the star of the show, there are also some lovely meals including soups, cakes and scones. Staff are friendly and welcoming, especially to children.

Visiting the area for a Xmas break and already been here twice in 3 days! Lovely cafe, specialising in teas from all over the world. A warm welcome from the staff, who are a credit to the place. The soups and scones are bloody lovely too. A great find, we'll be back again no doubt...

Day 2

Center of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Warkworth Castle, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Amble Beach Huts On Little Shore. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Warkworth Castle is a medieval fortress located in Northumberland, England. The castle features a cross-shaped keep, gatehouse, and towers that offer stunning views of the surrounding ruins. Despite its age of over 600 years, the castle remains an impressive sight. Visitors can explore the history of Warkworth Castle at their own pace with a free self-guided audio tour.
Had a super fun time here with the kids. English heritage had family activities on. The Silly History Boys did a great performance, funny quiz and kids battle which went down very well with my children (9yrs and 11yrs). The castle is a ruins and interesting to walk around.

An excellent ruin of a castle. We were lucky enough to have birds of prey showing as we arrived. Wonderful to see and hear about the birds. The is parking at the castle. You have to pay £3.50 for parking unless you are a national trust member. This is normal for national trust sites. There were toilets in the car park but they are not looked after the best. Lots of cobwebs and dirt and no soap in the toilets. It normally shuts at 5 during the summer months but the staff were very much rushing to shut up from half 4. This is the reason for the 4 star review the actual castle was 5 star. Plenty of areas to explore and learn about. Lots of information boards and voice boards around the site. The main building was amazing with lots of rooms and stairs to explore. The gift shop was small, however there was a tent which had more things in but this shut very early and we were not able to look around before we left. We do like to take souvenirs away with the sites name on.

Nice castle to visit especially if your part of the English Heritage as its free parking and entry. Quite alot of the castle remaining so plenty to look around. Also nice to walk down into the village with cafes and a few shops to visit. Overall well worth a visit.

Second visit in a decade visiting Warkworth Castle, and equally enjoyable this second time. Warkworth Castle is partly a ruins. But its main building (the Great Tower) has three floors of enclosed space. Definitely set aside time for the Great Tower to appreciate the variety of rooms, many passageways, several stairways, and the great views from windows. And, like me, you might also need some time trying to find your companions in the building! The signage has good info about several rooms/work areas. It also engages visitors with fictional dialogues about daily life in the Great Tower The castle’s elevated position and the Great Tower’s height provide excellent views of the surrounding area from several windows. The large outdoor lawn within the fortress between entrance and Great Fortress offers plenty of area for kids (and adults) to romp around. Parking (on lawn) for about 60 cars (my estimate). Visited in late May 2025

An absolute gem of a town! So much history too. Castle ruins, Hermitage built in a cave across the river with carved alters inside, Acessed by a small boat. Book your boat ticket at the castle where Parking all day is only £3.50. Local church with a sad story. Glorious river walks. Dog friendly pub called Masons.

I adore this castle - every time I go to Northumberland, I come here. It is an English heritage managed castle, it has a large carpark and has some accessible areas for anyone with mobility issues but the keep has stairs and no wheelchair access. It has some fantastic stone masonry work and some hidden markings - original angel of the north 😏 The staff are always welcoming and friendly and full of knowledge. Visit and enjoy this stunning castle for its ruined beauty 🥰

Surprisingly good. Lots to explore and great views too. Definitely worth a visit - a walk along the River Coquet is recommended as well.

Great place to visit, dog friendly in all areas, the main part of the castle was huge although a ruin was great to explore, as a child you could have a fab game of hide and seek, there is a free audio guide which tells you about the history of the castle while you explore

This was one of the few cafes open for breakfast on a Sunday. They had some outdoor seating in the sun. My ham and cheese croissant was extremely small! Other food and coffee were also fine. It took a very long time for us to get water.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to all working here on Monday night especially Amy and Tracy! My family and I had just arrived and sat down to enjoy a drink when I was taken unwell fainted and hit my head as I fell. The staff were amazing, looking after me, calling an ambulance and holding my hand until it came. I am so grateful to them all for their kindness. I’d also like to thank a fellow customer who opened her newly bought duvet and covered me with it to keep me warm. Although I hardly had time to enjoy my drink, the first sips were delicious and my family were enjoying theirs. Before this happened the service was welcoming and prompt and the place was lovely - we will return! Thank you

Great local place in Amble for a drink or breakfast. Food was really really good 👍🏽
Nirmal — Google review
The main issue being I ordered chicken and stuffing and was served pork and stuffing. When I highlighted the mistake there was no initial apology. The Manager then came over (still no simple apology) and started with the phrase “what is the problem?”! He was defensive throughout. I explained the situation to him. His response, “simple mistake”. He didn’t know why I don’t eat pork but I highlighted the fact that if it was for religious reasons or because of an allergy, it wasn’t just a “simple mistake”. He still didn’t acknowledge this fact and reiterated, “simple mistake”. I would feel unsafe eating here if I did have any serious allergies. This came after the fact that two of our party had tried to order the beetroot hummus and chickpea sandwich, which they had none left of. That happens. So they ordered fish finger sandwiches instead, which they took payment for. They then came back and said there was only enough for one fish finger sandwich, so we ordered a tuna sandwich in it’s place. The tuna sandwich was a cheaper option. Never did they offer a refund of the small difference between the two. £37 for the privilege too (2 sandwiches and 2 drinks).

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Amble, The Harbour Inn offers a delightful dining experience that perfectly captures the essence of Northumberland's vibrant culinary scene. This inviting establishment is known for its warm atmosphere and friendly service, making it an ideal spot for both locals and visitors alike. Guests can indulge in a variety of delicious dishes, with a particular emphasis on fresh seafood sourced from local waters.
Had Sunday lunch really could not fault it. My husband had the soup for starters I had the Craster kipper pate absolutely first class. Followed by the roast sirloin and slow cooker pork all the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Pity we don't have this type of establishment in our native Norfolk. Will definitely be back September 2026.
Joan H — Google review
If you enjoy great food paired with chaotic service and the thrill of a dining time limit you weren’t warned about — this is the place for you. We had high hopes walking into this place — the food reviews were glowing, and we’d even gone the extra mile to book a table weeks in advance. Clearly that kind of optimism was misplaced. It took 20 minutes just to get a drink, which gave us ample time to memorise the menu, redesign the interior in our heads, and wonder if we’d accidentally wandered into a self-service establishment. Then came the hour-long wait for food — by which point we were genuinely impressed we still remembered what we’d ordered. To cap it all off, just as we were offered dessert and another round of drinks (exciting!), another waitress came back five minutes later to let us know — surprise! — we had five minutes to vacate the table because it was needed. Apparently, the table came with an invisible countdown timer we weren’t told about when we booked. Sunday 6th April 3pm

We booked here for lunch today because of the reviews. They didn't dissapoint. It was grandparents, parents and 2 little ones. The poor lady serving solely did a cracking job as did the chef! We all had great meals and both service and food brilliant. Moules Marriniere was excellent! Highly recommend! We may even stay over next time x

Nice pub with friendly staff, 4 real ale pumps and an interesting selection, some very local. I particularly like the Wainwrites, although that's not local. Also did us a very nice Sunday Roast on our second visit. It does seem a bit difficult around these parts to find a pub that serves a real ale, no idea why as there are plenty of good breweries around. Appears keg is still King north of the wash.

Amble Beach Huts On Little Shore

4.6
(524)
Amble Beach Huts On Little Shore are located in a picturesque spot near the harbor, offering a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. The beach is perfect for families with young children, as it is sheltered and shallow with no waves. However, there's a dog ban during the summer months. The huts can be hired at an affordable price and come with power supply, but visitors need to bring their own amenities like chairs and kettle.
Small individual businesses...particularly enjoyed the Jordie sausage hut ! Harbour area & beach at Amble, seating available dog friendly, nice ambience, easy access, plenty to wander round and look at.

We hired a beach hut when you could still book one day. My grandchildren still talk about it a couple of years later. They had the best time and we were able to take along my 90 year old mother as she had the beach hut to rest and take a break from the sun.

Busy, clean quite a lot of choice, fantastic quayside market on Sunday. Nice little beach as well
Debbie — Google review
Beautiful little sandy beach, accessible to dogs between October and April. There are signs advising no dogs are allowed on the beach between 1 May and 30 September. The beach huts are available to hire for £20 per day, by contacting the harbour office. There's a picnic bench specifically for BBQs in front of the beach huts, as well as lots of other picnic benches nearby.
Dee K — Google review
For a decent price you can hire this beach hut. It has power but you have to bring everything else....chairs, kettle, table. We had a fabulous day even though it was overcast. Will return because Amble is lovely. Lovely icecream nearby whole selection of flavours. Gorgeous pod village to browse and buy gifts. Can't wait to return 💕

Very peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, lots to see with the fishing boats coming in to the harbour. The harbour leads into the River Coquet and you can see Warkworth Castle in the distance. Lots of small commercial outlets and cafes. Not to be missed, pick up some fresh fish , you can't beat it.

Quayside Fish & Chips is a delightful spot that perfectly captures the essence of seaside dining. Nestled in a vibrant coastal town, this eatery specializes in fast food and seafood, offering an array of delicious options for those craving classic fish and chips. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it an ideal place to unwind after exploring the local sights. A clean and tidy restaurant. Tables clean/ not sticky. Good presentation on the food. Waitress was efficient and friendly. Didn't wait too long for mine & hubby's food. The restaurant full & buzzing which is always a good sign! 2 pie ., chips and ( peas, shared) 2 drinks and tea for 1 was £23. Not too bad on the price. All meals on the same size fish plate. Some Other items I think are over priced. Toilets clean. I would eat in the restaurant again if I was visiting. Great location.
Anne S — Google review
After looking at reviews I think this is better than what customers have rated. Not long to wait and not over priced. Fishcakes was big , but was okay. Haddock, cod and the batter was lovely and light. Mushy peas and curry was good too. Served on bank holiday Monday every where busy. Staff hard working hot day.
Mick H — Google review
Staff were pleasant, service slow - no fault of the staff, chips were ok, fish wasn't great! It was all edible though and we ate it all. Completely overpriced but in a great spot. 3/5 is fair.
Kim S — Google review
Shockingly poor portions on sunday large fish?? Was a fish finger. Not even half abox of chips and kids meal was 6 chips and 2 of the scrattiest smallest tail end fish bites. Usually go here but after being ripped off defo wont be back absolute ripoff
Paula B — Google review
Waitresses were friendly and polite but the food was crap to be honest. We ordered 7 meals in the cafe, I had haggis and chips, the haggis was nice, chips were crap, I had a lot of little crunchy ends and I almost called the R.N.L.I to send out a search party for the rest of the chips, it was the smallest portion I have ever seen!!! My youngest is 7 and even she came away still hungry, she had sausage and chips and it wasn't a kids meal, if what we were given is a main portion I dread to think what a child portion is like. Very over priced for what you get and very disappointed. The Harbour fish bar along the road is great though, go there instead, similar price but much better portions.
Duane W — Google review
We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday, the restaurant was so busy we had to have a takeaway. They were very busy and a little disorganised but the food was excellent, the batter was perfect and the fish and chips fresh. The price was a little high for the position size but all round a pleasurable experience.
Dave W — Google review
Waited an absolute age for food. The chips were hard, curry sauce didn’t taste of anything but the haddock was nice! Shop was very clean however the staff really need to work on their customer service skills, there seemed to be a very unwelcoming atmosphere, they were all moody and very short with customers.
Clare T — Google review
Went 04/06/25, ~18:00. Staff appeared visibly annoyed for no apparent reason, giving dirty looks etc., food taken ages and was below average for fish and chips, only redeeming quality was the curry sauce. I would not come back again.

It's a popular choice for a fun night out with friends or a casual family dinner. The menu focuses on seafood, offering a wide variety of options to cater to different tastes. Visitors have praised the fresh and delicious food, friendly staff, and enjoyable ambiance. Some highlights include the halibut and lamb dishes, as well as fab service and delicious cocktails.
Wow, this was the best meal we have had in the area. The food was fresh and delicious, the staff friendly (if busy!) and the ambiance was good. I had the halibut, which was a fantastic thick piece of fish, my partners lamb also looked good. Edit as we went back a second time, the meal was just as good if not better, I had the beef rib, which was actually more like an amazingly tasty and tender steak (no bone at all), all the accompaniments were also super tasty. My partner had belly pork which was also really good.
Kate W — Google review
Service was fab! Cocktails delicious 😋 Food was great BUT only downside was the beef strips didn't come with any side and it was £22.85 ! The brulee had split when the sugar had been caramelised on top. Peach melba tasted fizzy ? Presentation of food was second to none.

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Amble, the Harbour Fish Bar is a must-visit for seafood lovers. This delightful eatery specializes in classic fish and chips, renowned for its perfectly fried fish and crispy batter that keeps patrons coming back for more. The menu boasts an array of fresh seafood options including chowder, oysters, crabs, and grilled sea bass. Diners rave about the generous portions served in sturdy trays—ideal for enjoying by the beach!
Really good batter, crispy on both sides of the fish (you can hear it crunch in the video). Probably the best beef-dripping fried batter. Not as much leftover grease (or stickiness on your tongue) as most chippies, even for their scraps. Good-sized piece of cod, although slightly thin. Would revisit because the batter is addictive, even though the grease gets a bit too much for me at the end (so eat it fast before it cools!)
Eve V — Google review
Been coming here for years previously, the staff are lovely but the haddock is such a disappointment, had literally zero taste what so ever but the little ones chicken nugs and chips were exceptional, price £22 for fish and chips and a large nugs and chips which wasnt so bad, overall just poor for the famous seaside town
COREY W — Google review
Quick service. Good price and worth every penny. Fresh fish, crispy batter. Chips perfect. Served in a sturdy tray. Took to the beach to eat. We got a medium but it was more like large. Would be a regular if I lived near by.
Heather Y — Google review
If you go to Harbour fish bar. Do not ask for large chip butty. This is what you get, £4.20 for a large and you get given not even half a scoop of chips. I often go to this place and always receive a larger portion of chips for a large. HIGHLY disappointed.
Connor L — Google review
Nearly gave this place a miss after seeing some negative reviews. So glad we decided to give it a go. Large flaky cod with thin well cooked batter. Nice chips too. All freshly cooked and piping hot. Not too long a wait with good service from the staff.
Janet J — Google review
You know it's going to be good when they're queuing down the street. We'll worth the wait. Lovely crispy batter with no soggy bits. Generous portions and the best chip shop curry sauce I've ever had. Great range of chip shop treats like spam fritters and haggis. Note they cook in beef dripping.
Andrew S — Google review
A little disappointed at first they didn't have large cod or pineapple fritters left but the alternative did not disappoint. Large haddock, chips, curry sauce Cheese pattie, chips, curry sauce and onion rings wow 👌 Best curry sauce iv had and those onion rings were amazing too. Cheese pattie so flavoursome and my husband really enjoyed the haddock. Best fish n chip supper we have had in a long time.
Tracey — Google review
An excellent 'chippy' that does the chips the old way in beef dripping. The portions are a good size with a medium fish and small fish enough for anyone. The only issue is the queuing system which was confusing for a 1st time customer so a little work on that would help.

After visiting Warkworth Castle, there’s not muck to see or do in Warkworth and after walking down the main street, I had given up and was about to head home when I found this pub with a sign in the window saying they welcome “muddy paws”. So on I went with my little doggy Taylor Swift the Westie who sat at my feet as I waited for my scampi and chips. It did take quite a while and I was just about to ask had they forgotten about me when the food arrived and it was hearty and delicious. Tis a rare jewel, a food establishment that accepts doggies.

We’ve been a couple of times now and it’s always such a great experience. The guy behind the bar is incredibly friendly and welcoming. But what really blew us away this time was the food. We only had the cheese scones and the cheese & bacon scones, but oh my god – they were absolutely outstanding. Fresh, warm, packed with flavour, and genuinely some of the best we’ve ever tasted.

What a wonderful village pub. Could not fault anything, if I was looking to do so. Staff, so friendly, food top notch. The massive Yorkshire pudding with pulled beef and mash and veg in it.

Druridge Bay Country Park, situated on the Northumberland coast in England, spans over 700 acres and boasts expansive dune-backed beaches, tranquil lakes, and lush woodlands. The park offers a variety of trails for visitors to explore, including the popular Coastal Walk. Nature enthusiasts can also discover the diverse wildlife at Hauxley Wildlife Reserve within the park's boundaries.
Lovely stay in this beautiful park. Reasonable facilities but showers and loos grubby and need renewing. A bit of a trek too. Reasonable Access to the lake and a nice cafe. Great location for visiting surrounding areas. Very helpful staff.
Sarah W — Google review
Lovely place to visit. Ideal for families, people that love water activities, walkers and twitchers. The lake is great, plenty of places to get on the water. Also you can hire equipment by the cafe too. The beach is beautiful with its long sandy bay, a short walk from the campsite.
Susan S — Google review
What a wonderful place. Plenty of parking where you can choose to stay for a short time or all day. There's a huge watersports lake at one side and miles of beautiful beach at the other. In the middle there is a cafe, dog friendly of course and toilet facilities. There's also a playground for the kids. Around there's plenty of benches and picnic tables if you want to bring your own food. Just perfect!
Cheryl W — Google review
It is a little piece of heaven..I think it is around 1.5 miles to walk around the lake. It is very beautiful even in cold weather. A really lovely cafe with very reasonable prices. We had two bacon/sausage sandwiches which consisted of four sausages and a thick bacon rasher. All this for £4. I would highly recommend.
Anovi H — Google review
Lovely place to explore, the lake is beautiful, and there’s plenty of walks around the area to enjoy. The beach access is directly behind the car park. And the beach itself is fab. The cafe next to the car park is reasonably priced, we only stayed for coffees as we had brought a picnic but next time we’d like to try the yummy cakes! Toilets relatively clean and tidy. The play area for kids is also a good size and there’s plenty of picnic benches around to sit outside. Will definitely visit again.
Emmy A — Google review
Really lovely lake you can walk right round, dogs can be off lead. The path is finished so mud free if its wet There are some great stepoing stones at one end of the lake. There is a nice, dog friendly cafe, kids play park and you can paddleboard/kayak on the lake (permit can be obtained on council website). You can walk over the road to the beach which is wonderful. Parking is free for an hour, then £2 50 for two hours and i think £4.50 for the day.
Sue D — Google review
Such a great place you can choose between the beautiful parkland with flat walks around the lake or enjoy the amazing beach miles of sand and not too crowded. Whichever you choose there’s a great cafe to end your visit.
Joan A — Google review
Nice country park but the beach with miles of coastline is the main attraction. Worth a stop if you’re in the area and are after a leg stretch.

The center features a three-story adventure play frame with a castle theme, rope bridges, dragon's tail slides, dungeon dodging activities, and cannon ball swings. Visitors have praised the friendly staff and clean facilities while noting that it provides good value for money with everything needed under one roof.
One of the best soft plays we have visited, loads for all ages. Didn't see my kids for the full 2 hours, and the food was lovely ( well presented ) hence the five stars... Will definitely be returning.

Amazing time celebrating a birthday party. Absolutely nothing was too much for the hosts that were assigned to us for the party even when there was a spillage. They were very attentive and everything was straight forward and so easy all we had to do was turn up with the cake! All staff were friendly and cheery. 5* from us we’d definitely rebook another party and will be back for a play too!
Scott D — Google review
Had my son’s 7th birthday party here, what a fantastic day. The party was run without a hitch, staff were lovely, especially Natalie who talked me through the whole day and was brilliant with the kids. We opted for the Gaming party- all the kids were amazed with the gaming den. I think it’s brilliant that you’re only charged for the children that turn up- not all soft plays operate like this. Would definitely recommend, thank you
Wonderland33 — Google review
Had an amazing time at our sons 4th birthday party today. It was our first ever visit- we booked last minute as we were let down by a different venue. The staff were friendly and helpful, the play space itself was so much fun for all the ages at our party, very clean too. The food portions were generous & the staff catered well for our vegan guests. So impressed with what we got for what we paid. Thankyou all again. X

Wonderful place for children’s birthday parties, staff are very lovely and accomodating. Very pleased for our 6 yr old’s birthday party. She had a fab time, highly recommended
Kapil S — Google review
Never had a bad trip to Castlemania. The staff are absolute sweethearts, the food is great, the kids are happy, it's great. We've had 2 birthday parties here and they've both been exceptional. At our most recent, the mascot that we'd hired (from an external provider) was 45 minutes late (Yikes!) but castlemania stepped in to cover which I was super grateful for particularly as I was so stressed!! Such a great place to have so nearby
Rhiannon D — Google review
Often visit here with my little ones and love it, also had my sons birthday party here on 5th Oct and was perfect for him. Very friendly staff, great food, lots to play on and totally stress-free. Thank you

Stopped by on our way back to our holiday camp, it was dead, obviously not half term for some, 2 hours rule for just over a fiver, but you can't leave your kids unattended. Bobby basic all round. We didn't stay long. No locks on the toilet doors. Needs a bit work.

Vacation home rental agency
Amble Links - Holiday Park & Holiday Homes is a delightful destination that perfectly balances the charm of nature with convenient amenities. Nestled near the picturesque village of Amble, this location boasts a stunning beach that features both sand and shingle, offering breathtaking views of Coquet Island. While you can take boat trips to see the puffin colony nearby, landing on the island itself isn't allowed. The beach is not only beautiful but also clean, having earned recognition for its litter-free environment.
This is a lovely place set on the edge of the beautiful Northumberland coast, close to the cheerful harbour of Amble. Amble Links staff are friendly & helpful & there's usually fun events planned for weekends, like Owner's Breakfasts, & 80's Night in the Granary Pub on site. I've met some great new friends here. Thanks for my Dream-come-true hole Amble Links!

Visited friends in their new caravan. Park is very well maintained, clean, and tidy. The leisure facilities are fantastic and pub is a good place to chill. Entertainment was excellent. Great place to own a caravan, with beach less than 100 yards away.
George M — Google review
Had caravan there for almost a month now. The location is beautiful, quiet but not too isolated from local amenities. All sales staff are great, most notably Grant that I mostly dealt with he made whole process easy and his knowledge of the industry showed. The gym and pool are great as and well kitted out. The restaurant is really good and the service is excellent. The owners club/bar has provides a good night out. The Tom Jones tribute was something to see. It clear to see why this site gets a 5 Star rating.🙂

Brilliant place to own a static caravan. 365 days usage. No rentals, owners only. Good leisure facility with plans to upgrade in January 2024 and change the onsite pub and restaurant (both open to the public). Just a few hundred yards from the sea and 10 minutes walk in to town.

Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre is a volunteer-led eco-friendly facility that offers nature trails, wildlife spotting from hides, and stunning views at The Lookout Cafe. It's a tranquil place with well-maintained paths suitable for short strolls or longer walks. The centre is home to various species of insects, birds, and red squirrels. Visitors can also enjoy the new cafe with its scenic lake views and homemade food.
Great place for a walk and spy on the wildlife. Very tranquil. I have no clue what I looked at as most birds are similar, although the posters in the hides did help a lot. Decided to do the cafe last. Wonderful scones and great cake. Cant ask for much more
James D — Google review
Got there for 9am and managed to get round nearly all the hides which were mostly unoccupied. Saw lots of different birds. The hides are situated in different spots so you’ve got different views and birds from each one. It’s about a mile to walk around all the hides and back to the entrance/cafe. I think there’s about 8 or 9 hides each with its own distinct view. Car parking was £2 all day. Entrance is free, note no dogs allowed inside the cafe or the reserve. Cafe was great. Enjoyed a panini and a cappuccino. Can’t wait to go back.
Michael B — Google review
Wow, what a place to go to. It's charity based with no admission fee but you can donate without pressure if you want to. £2 to park a car for the day. Several really well made wooden bird hides with comfy benches and windows to open to watch the birds (make sure you have your binoculars),.Most hides face inward towards the water, 1 facing the north sea although it's aimed at the bird feeders the trust has placed there. They have a comfy cafe with sarnies, some hot sarnies scones/cakes. Service is great too. Only one toilet that I found in the cafe. Not sure if there's more somewhere else. Thought I was gonna have 2 hours there, ended up the whole day. Carpark closes at 5:30pm
Matt — Google review
Hubs and son spent two glorious hours here. I'm on crutches so I sat and read my book in the sunshine. They saw 50 species which they were thrilled with. Then we had cake, delicious end to our day 💕
Theresa R — Google review
Excellent for bird watching. All the walks protected from the wind. Very good cafe.
Pat R — Google review
Nice quiet sandy beach. Great for walking dogs and having a picnic. Unfortunately dogs not allowed in the wildlife discovery centre but the beach made up for it.
David B — Google review
Wonderful location and ideal spot to explore the coast too but signs could have been clearer especially if you've parked outside the gate area. You have to go through the visitor centre to access wetland walks. Do stop in the lovely cafe.
Anna S — Google review
The reserve itself offers a range of natural habitats and wildlife. Unfortunately NWT make no effort to ensure the wider reserve is accessible to people with mobility issues. There are no mobility scooters nor wheelchairs available to hire. They have turned down offers of help to obtain funding. Most other similar sites across the country welcome people with mobility issues and make suitable provision for them. If they can NWT could if they chose to.

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Amble, The Old Storehouse is a delightful dining spot that captures the essence of seaside cuisine. With an extensive menu featuring fresh seafood options like chowder, oysters, and fish & chips, it’s a haven for seafood lovers. Guests can indulge in dishes such as grilled sea bass and crayfish curry while enjoying the warm ambiance created by vintage decor and local memorabilia.
Having spent the lunchtime searching many pubs to unsuccessfully to try and get vegan food this was our last option. It turns out that The Old Storehouse has an extensive menu including several vegan options. The vegan cottage pie was excellent.

Very disappointing 🙁 Came for food on a weeknight and even though it was very quiet it still seemed understaffed. Food mostly tasted microwaved, cake was dry and pizza was extremely bready with way too much cheese. Could be enjoyable to some but too greasy for my taste. We didn’t complain because the staff already seemed rushed but it seems a shame as this used to be a lovely place to eat.
Rachel H — Google review
£15 each for what was honestly the worst sunday dinner I've ever had. The chicken was dryer than sand and the veg was all tinned with no flavour. Even the 'gravy' tasted like water. Very very disappointed as it's a really nice pub in a great location but we won't be back again for food.
Kevin G — Google review
Upon entering with a only a handful of customers presrnt we were informed that there would only be able to order food in groups of 5 as there was a large group of us visiting to watch the football. The food took nearly 45 minutes to start arriving and came out in bits and bobs. One member of the party complained about their food where the staff member had no idea of how to sort out of the complaint with them asking what would you want doing? Surely as a manager you come with solutions in order to deal with this and make it a better experience. During the visit there was no check backs on the food and also the staff members started to clear plates before everyone had finished. Further to this when leaving there was no recognition of us visiting with us allowed to leave without any form of acknowledgement.
Jevon S — Google review
Bought food worth £70 for our family. Food came out stone cold chicken, fish was mushy and disgusting wouldn’t feed this to a dog. New staff, lovely man came out and apologised and was so understanding whereas he was clearly put in the middle of something he did not feel comfortable with as manager kept sending him out and refusing to speak to us. Manager came out with no sympathy, advised they will reheat our meals however refused a refund or replacement. Was rude and advised food was eatable, maybe for a stray animal who would eat crap. Ps please promote Steven, get rid of your current manager, in replacement with Steven, someone who knows how to deal with customers. We will not be back, the service we have received will take our custom to buy a caravan elsewhere.

Total rip off. Big prices and appalling food with tiny portions! Don't waste you money! I mean, £4 for this tiny portion of chips is simply outrageous. This place used to be great and I even left numerous positive reviews here and elsewhere. Over the last year or so it has got gradually worse and worse and I fear is now in terminal decline. Despite being a patron for over 15 years I simply refuse to be ripped off and taken for a mug any more. Please please please sort it out before you run the business into the ground!
Simon — Google review
Stood at the empty bar for 10 minutes being ignored by two members of staff chatting. One went into the kitchen and the other walked past us to collect glasses outside. When she came back inside we asked if anyone was going to serve us. She said yes and then proceeded to have another conversation with her colleague and the end of the bar !!!! 1 pint of larger and half a lemonade £9.75 !!!! We just walked out

Pub
Nestled in the charming village of Amble, Northumberland, The Masons Arms is a quintessential country pub that exudes warmth and hospitality. With its rustic decor featuring exposed brick walls and wooden beams, this inviting establishment offers a cozy atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. Guests rave about the mouthwatering traditional dishes available, including their signature Sunday lunch—a delightful trio of meats accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables like Savoy cabbage and roast potatoes.
We visited this pub around 4 years ago on a stay in Alnwick, now we were returning I knew I wanted to go back here! The food is proper home cooked pub food, the steak pie is not to be missed. The service was so friendly, they were so good with our little boy who enjoyed his sausage & potatoes from the children’s menu! Can’t wait to come back
Laura E — Google review
Recommended this place by @coastalcustodian , and were not disappointed. Ordered food , and drinks at the bar ( where staff are friendly and welcoming ). The signature Sunday lunch ( trio of meats with veggies ) was amazing . Served outside under covered seating area , completely dog friendly ( with water available for a four legged companions ). Vegetables were cooked perfectly and nice and warm ( Savoy cabbage , fine green beans , carrots , cauliflower, mashed potatoes and roast potatoes) . Trio of meats include - roast turkey , pork loin and beef with stuffing and an enormous Yorkshire pudding . No booking is available ( walk in only ) , and considering we walked in at 1220hrs and it was heaving - is a testament to how good this place is . Well done The Masons Arms , and your amazing chef , staff and bar staff .

Good range of beers at excellent prices. Staff are very friendly and food is lovely. The Jeff Burger will satisfy the heartiest of appetites. The quiz night was a lot of fun - informal, yet challenging. Update: July 2025 - although many things remain the same, they no longer do food.

This place is phenomenal!! We stopped by as we was passing the area, this was much to our delight! The filet steak was absolutely amazing. I would go as far as saying the best steak I’ve had! The starters were immaculate too. Portion sizes were generous. Service was great and the venue had a nice atmosphere. We live around an hour away but I have a feeling we will be making the journey back to visit more often.

Stayed in a Family Room on Thu 2 Sept '21, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. To say the room was spacious is an understatement, but it felt homely not vacuous. The fact you come and go via the back door keeps you totally separate from the actual pub, not that it's a pub to avoid, far from it, all I mean is that you don't feel like your stopping in a room above a pub, it feels more like you've got your own flat in middle of town. Seriously, it's excellent and unbelievable value, wouldn't hesitate to recommend, especially for families. Breakfast is superb as well.
NE24 M — Google review
Called in for Sunday lunch. Food was first class. We are not big eaters so went for the smaller portion. They were very generous portions no way could we have handled the standard lunch and really well cooked. The beer garden is sheltered and they serve pizza I think after 5pm. Will definitely be back.
Stephen B — Google review
We usually like visiting here for the real ale but it hasn't been to our taste lately. Always had a laugh with regulars but as the beer wasn't suitable for us we didn't stay long. Fancy trying a Sunday lunch sometime as we hear they are great value.
