Floors Castle, a grand castle dating back to 1721, boasts impressive roof turrets and lavishly furnished interiors adorned with art and tapestries. The castle is set amidst historic landscapes and stunning grounds, including the four-acre Walled Garden featuring vibrant blooms in spring and summer, as well as glasshouses cultivating fresh fruit and vines. Queen Victoria even visited the charming summerhouse during her stay at Floors Castle in 1867.
Fabulous castle and grounds from the outside. Was a last minute decision so could only do lunch at the cafe which was really nice. Fab views as you sit and eat outside and the food was amazing! I had a crunchy fish wrap and my friend ordered the schnitzel and we both enjoyed our food. Would come back soon to visit the walled garden and inside the castle.

A fabulous day out with grand kids, We visited the wall garden, which is absolutely stunning, wonderful variety of flowers and veg, the millennium gardens are truly amazing, filled with so many apple trees, the kids loved the park and we had a picnic whilst there, we visited the shop and bought gorgeous marmalade and chutney, the cafe was reasonable and the coffee food. We didn't pay to go in the castle opting for the river walk which to be honest wasn't that well sign posted, could have done with a few more posts to follow, but we happily walked across the field ! The castle is spectacular to look at. A great day out worth a visit
Linda B — Google review
This is one spectacular castle, we didn't manage to get inside but the gardens are absolutely glorious, without doubt one of the best we've ever visited. Lots of inspiration to take home. Beautiful grounds with woodland walks and plenty of space to tire out the little ones.
Lisa T — Google review
A lovely place to visit. And walk around the gardens throw the woods. And visit the castle as well. Don't forget to go in the cafe as well for food or drinks. Disabled access and parking. There is also a children's play area as well. A really nice day out. You can also walk down by the river tweed as well
Kevin M — Google review
Great grounds to explore. We visited twice in a week but wasn't enough time in explore in a day so purchased an annual pass so we can visit more often. House tour very interesting. Gardens were fab with staff working away in the gardens when visited who were very friendly and enthusiastic when we asked them about the work they were doing. Gift shop very good with excellent customer care but didn't get the chance to sample the cafe on these visits Will be back.
Ajsw S — Google review
Large and impressive stately home. If I am to be completely honest the £22 entrance charge is a little bit on the high side and you don't actually see that much compared to many other country houses I have visited. That said the gardens are included in the ticket price. Parking is included. Cafe/tearoom and restaurant are both very good. Good toilet facilities. Friendly & staff.

I recently visited Floors Castle and was thoroughly impressed by its grandeur and historical significance. The interior, rich with artifacts and stories, offers a fascinating glimpse into Scotland’s past, though photography and videography are not permitted inside. Outside, the expansive grounds are a delight, with stunning views and well-maintained gardens where capturing photos is allowed. I highly recommend taking time to stroll the nature paths, which provide a serene escape and showcase the estate’s natural beauty. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike!
Richard C — Google review
The exterior of the castle is impressive. Everything is very well maintained – the façade, the interior chambers, and of course, the garden. Unfortunately, it was a rainy day, and we couldn’t walk around for long. The luxurious rooms on the first floor are not particularly unique. There are a few interesting artifacts.

The horse racing venue in Kelso offers a nostalgic ambiance combined with top-notch modern amenities. It was the first time for someone to attend a race, and they were captivated by the experience after noticing a poster advertising the event while traveling to Wooler. They emailed to inquire about bringing their dog along and waited to see how the weather would unfold throughout the week.
First ever day at the races - it was brilliant Whilst travelling to Wooler for a week's holiday we saw a poster/sign advertising that Saturday 4 March was a race day at Kelso Racecourse. Having never been to the races before we decided to email to check that we could take our dog with us [we could] and then wait to see how the weather unfolded during the week. Saturday came and it was dry, so after stopping in Kelso town for lunch we headed out to the racecourse full of excitement and anticipation at what lay ahead. We were not to be disappointed. From the moment we got our tickets until we left the racecourse some 4 hours later we had such an enjoyable time.
David C — Google review
Not Aintree, but the Borders people are friendly and the racecourse hospitality packages reasonably priced. Food quality was disappointing and the service disorganised but friendly. New caterers would bring the experience up to the level that this unique rural venue deserves. Good day out with modest betting losses contained within budget.

I write as a disabled person. This racecourse is absolutely perfect for disabled people. Everything is accessible.. Toilets are accessible and plentiful around the course.. The staff are amazing to everyone and there needs. Food is A1.and again accessible. I have to mention Joanna and Sharon who go the extra mile. Thank you Kelso.

Brilliant day ladies day there was an issue with the shuttle bus however he returned to get us afterwards, lovely scenery drinks not to overpriced lots of food choices. Only problem was the weather typical British!

Lots of room. Not as busy as other racecourses I've been too Easy enough to order drinks and food. N .

Brilliant day out racing, we had the platinum hospitality package, it's a great way to watch it all. The staff were fantastic from the second we got there, they could do enough to make sure we enjoyed the day. The 3 course meal was very good, plenty to eat and all very tasty. We're already planning a return trip.
Michael B — Google review
I went for a race day here on a Saturday. The course was quite busy even on a cold day. There were a few different places to get food and drink so you had some choice. There is a william hill bookies on the course too. It's smaller than a lot of other race courses but I had a good day and sure others will too.

Great rural track, with a great atmosphere and crowd. Very local feel with independent caterers providing excellent food and drink options. Great viewing facilities too. Definitely recommend a visit.

If you're in need of reliable appliance services, look no further than James Stewart & Son Ltd. This local gem has garnered praise for its exceptional service and professionalism. Customers have shared their positive experiences after utilizing their expertise for fridge-freezer repairs and replacements. The team is known for punctuality, arriving exactly when promised, and handling installations with remarkable skill—even navigating tricky staircases without a hitch!
Excellent service from a well run local firm. Have used these guys three times now. Twice for a repair to a fridge-freezer, and then for a replacement for the same after the original was deemed kaput. Always turned up when they said they would and the guys who put in the new fridge (and removed the - large - old one) were first class. Got both in and out up and down some tricky windy stairs with no issues at all. Highly recommended.
Colin M — Google review
Probably one one the worst companies I've dealt with with constant excuses and lies. My call was placed 8 weeks ago to fix my freezer. Having taken a day off, the engineer didn't bother to turn up as he should have called me to cancel. Then when he did turn up a week later, was told the simple part he took away was easy to replace. Weeks later heard nothing. Then the guy was off on holiday, then off sick then the part was ready and I took another day off. Again, didn't bother to turn up. Now I'm told the part needs "pipes" and can't be fixed. 8 weeks on and this is the result. It's just lies and they can't be bothered. The worst company ever and the communication is dreadful. Emails are rude, staff are useless and to be honest I don't know why people use them. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE AND THE LIES
Atz D — Google review
Won't be using them again, have been a customer of Stewarts in the past and like to shop locally, my wife recently phoned to enquire about what tumble dryers they had in stocks, a reasonable and simple enquiry you would have thought, unfortunately the response from the lady who answered the phone was (the shop is very busy and can't check the stock go on the Internet and view items yourself) , not I'll phone you back in a couple of minutes with an answer, which you would expect, So we went on the Internet and purchased one from amazon, sales assistant needs a bit of customer service training.
Sandy B — Google review
Great service needed something urgently for an exhibition set up and they sorted me out. Will use again for sure!

Excellent service from James Strwart's electrician. Fridge and freezer fitted on 1st floor. Very tricky stairs and he managed on his own. Will definitely recommend this shop.

Phoned up on the 5th of jan about a broken washing machine! Engineer came out said it needed a new drum and nothing has been for almost a month now! Kept phoning up and the woman on the phone was rude kept sighing! Issues getting parts apparently then phoned back and we weren't booked in for a repair!!! Ended up just getting a new washing machine! Deffo do not recommend

Archaeological site
Historical place
The impressive ruins of Roxburgh Castle in Scotland hold a fascinating history, including the destruction of the castle and assassination of King James II by the Scots. Although reaching the castle can be challenging due to steep climbs and wild surroundings filled with nettle and tall thistle, it is worth braving for the breathtaking views. From there, one can easily spot other notable castles such as Floors Castle and Hume Castle in the distance.
We parked up along side the A699 just passed seeing the ruins to the left on a hill. There is a path leading you down to the river. Turn left and walk along the river for a short while. You will spot a path to the left which takes you up to the ruins. You will walk through what was once the main gate entrance to the castle. Please take care as site is over flowing with stinging nettles and thistles. There is also fake nettles all over for those foragers. Walking around the site, one can tell it was large. It is a Magical place. Due to its location I think...that view of the river and then across the A699 to the Floors castle. A walk along rhe river shows you a few walls with arches and has a plaque of some of its history. This is a peaceful place, where ducks, swans and other wildlife thrive. Dishing is allowed with a permit and the benches along the river are kitted out for this with rod resting racks. You will need to climb a steep bank to get to the ruins. Not for the physically disabled.
Charmaine H — Google review
Went to see the castle ruins I wouldn't recommend actually walking up to it's not worth all the nettle stings...the walk along the river path was lovely
Sammi R — Google review
Loved this walk and some watercolour painting. I was next to the Teviot River, looking up at the castle. Peaceful and atmospheric. You can walk here from Kelso and there's an even longer walk up to Roxburgh viaduct.
Zelda S — Google review
Not much left to see. Although a very important historical site, over grown with nettles so wear jeans or long trousers. Access from the gate down from the layby is best. Great views of Floors castle. Roxburgh was once the the defacto capital of Scotland at one point.
Dtads — Google review
Neat castle ruins where the Scots destroyed the castle and killed King James II. Lots of hidden history within the ruins. A little difficult to get to, with steep climbs and the area is quite wild. Lots of Nettle and tall thistle, so wear pants! If you can brave the climb, the views are worth it. You can easily see Floors Castle and Hume Castle in the distance.
Richard A — Google review
Difficult to access, a ruin with very little remaining, and no information boards to see but still a nice new place to visit.
Lucas H — Google review
Short and beautiful walk to the ruins albeit not wheelchair friendly. Interesting history and gorgeous surroundings, but not this is a ruin so very little of castle to see
Gary W — Google review
My wife and I visited from the US and stopped here as this castle was in her family name many generations ago. We came so she could stake claim to the castle! Well...yes it is in ruins, but there is certainly an energy present on the site. There is a lot of wondering what may have been. It was a fun and romantic hike out to the castle. We enjoyed the scenic views and the sunny and crisp February weather. If you have a moment on the way through Kelso, I would recommend making a quick stop here! Just don't try to claim the ruins, my wife will answer the challenger. God Speed.

Stayed here with my family. Located in the city centre, clean rooms, comfortable beds, ensuite bathroom with good electric shower. Room is cleaned daily and we had this lovely biscuits with tea and coffee daily.Breakfast was good. My baby had enough space to crawl around in the double bedded room. The owner is very friendly. Good value for the money paid

Booked in for the Saturday night 21st Oct 23, had such a wonderful time in the bar with the amazing staff and locals, I decided to stay an other 2 nights, the owner is always on hand and his personality sets the mood for the whole place to be such a wonderful place to spend time getting to know the locals and enjoy a laugh together, the atmosphere is very friendly. The rooms are basically just what you need, tea coffee facilities and a couple lovely biscuits , tv on-suite bathroom bath and electric shower , comfortable double bed, all cleaned daily by a lovely lady. What more would you want at this price, I don’t have breakfasts in hotels, but other guests told me it was good value for money. I would definitely recommend the Black Swan and would stay here again for sure.

Perfect overnight stay, to explore Kelso. Comfortable bed and a warm shower, in a characterful hotel, right in the heart of the city. A very warm welcome at check in, with great sightseeing tips by the hotel owners too. If you’re traveling by bus, this is the most convenient place to stay, as the bus drops you off near the front of the hotel entrance, and the bus depot is just behind the hotel. It was an enjoyable stay, with all the essentials for a brief visit to this beautiful town. Highly recommended this hotel.
Rose D — Google review
Had a great stay & made very welcome by the big Irish manager & day staff, even gave us a complementary run to the racecourse. Great pint of Guinness with friendly regulars. Rooms better than pictures online, very comfy & clean. Two negatives being bar stopped serving at 10.15? And girl wouldn’t serve us as she had “done her till” got annoyed by her accusation that we were aggressive which was not the case we were simply shocked that on a guys day away & as residents we were more or less told days finished, we left and went to the busy pub down the road. Apologies to girl but there certainly was no rudeness let alone aggression. Finally there was no chef to cook breakfast. I would definitely recommend the pub but would check bar closing time as I’ve still no idea why 10.15 is closing time unless it’s when regulars had left?

Pleasant atmosphere in a row of repurposed farm cottages. Located next to the walled gardens at Floors Castle the Terrace Cafe is the best place to eat lunch if you visit the Castle and grounds. Open all year round for lunch but be sure to book by telephone if you want to guarantee a seat.

Lovely little Cafe where it is steeped in the history of the grounds with photos etc in the cafe and had inspired us to visit the Castle itself. It is a little drive into it but don't give up, it's worth it. Lovely scone and cappuccino at a very reasonable price. Full lunch menu on offer as well as delicious cake selection.

Simply the best Kedgeree anywhere. We were warned when seated that they were very busy. Took over 40 minutes from ordering for a table of 4 to be served. Kedge was worth the wait however 👍

Busy cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. We had high tea which was lovley. Unlimited hot drinks with sandwiches, cakes and cream scones. Couldnt eat all the cake so came home with a box of cakes each Staff are very friendly and helpful. Will def be back to sample the main menu. I would definitely advise on making a reservation as it is very popular

Most helpful staff, lovely service. Does get busy so booking a table is recommended. I had delicious kedgeree while my husband enjoyed roasted pheasant. Nice food, very happy with the service received
Yulia A — Google review
A pleasant surprise. I was expecting a tea room style, but instead more a fresh modern style, with good food and drink offerings. Recommend the kedgeree: lovely flavour. Salads were excellent, not too overcomplicated but definitely not boring. If being pickie, my coffee came in a mug, somewhat at odds with the clean porcelain used for my friends earl grey. The terrace is a lovely sun trap with view of a long flower border & trees beyond. Easy to drive in and park right outside the cafe, without the complications of feeling you have to pay to enter the grounds or castle.

I don't usually like cafes at attractions in the UK but this one was a pleasant surprise. They have tables in the walled garden, which is a lovely place to sit when the weather is fine. We enjoyed our BLT and chicken wrap, both served with a nice fresh little mixed salad. There were lots of delicious looking cakes and pastries too.

Set in the peaceful entourage and style of Floors Castle, this little tearoom/restaurant is worth a visit! We sat outside, looking over the walled garden, enjoying a coffee and treat. Very friendly (and content) staff, quality products and... nice and quiet here! We'll definitely be back, highly recommend this place.

A very good authentic Indian cuisine experience. Superb attention from the owners and staff. Helpful recommendations of their selection of food and drinks. Fresh tasty food came quickly, didn't feel rushed, great service. Plentiful portions, with plenty of flavour. This is an unlicensed restaurant, but don't fear as there is a coop locally near by with a large selection of drinks. Overall prices were about right for the meal, however the charge for corkage per person seemed excess. We would definitely return.

A very warm welcome, and very good food - one dish arrived sizzling loudly ! It was great - ( only downside are the unlovely plastic flowers. How about losing them and giving every table a nice tea light and lower the main lights a bit ?? ) Very good wishes to Sultans and thanks !

Stopped nearby whilst riding the Northumberland 250. In general Indian food is popular and of high standards in Scotland. My experience of Indian food is not insignificant (Bradford, Birmingham, and numerous friends from India and Pakistan) so I can't give it 5 stars, but as you can see from the photos it is well prepared. Portion sizes acceptable. Prices in keeping with current global economic circumstances.

Just had a wonderful dinner here. Great quality food, quick service with the food and reasonably priced. Not often you get all three together! Place is well presented and has a good atmosphere. I'd book a table in advance if you really want to eat here. The place was pretty dead at half 6 however was full within an hour. Only have two small gripes - but probably me being picky. It would be better if there was a reminder service for bookings. I had to phone a couple times because I kept forgetting what time it was. Given how busy the evening was only two staff working the floor and one other working the bar and handwriting cheques. The staff were professional and certainly did not give off the image of being stressed but it really would have been good to see another staff member on the floor. Even if the guy that was walking around saying hello to people, if he even just helped out a wee bit. Maybe there was staff sickness, who knows? Would definitely come back here for a special occasion again.

We came here as a group of eight during a group holiday. We designed on Kelso as one of our group had previously lived there! The restaurant had an amazing atmosphere, and the server was fantastic. He was very funny and accommodating to us and made the experience 10x better. The carbonara was simply to die for and the whole meal was spectacular. The desert was particularly commendable, as it was delicious and well plated. We all highly recommend this wonderful restaurant to any travellers, or residents in the area.

So pleased we opted to book here as there is plenty of choice in Kelso. Doesn't look much from the outside to be honest but it is beautiful inside. The staff were all brilliant, we didnt wait long for our food to arrive, everything was cooked fresh and to perfection, although they don't have a children menu the did half portion and left out the chili and onions for our 6 year old. All the food was amazing, plentiful and very tasty, all plates cleared ! The cholocalte spoons that came with desert were a nice touch. I deff would recommend a visit to here.

Fantastic menu and excellent food. Only criticism was the restaurant doesn't do split bills, which means it was kerfuffle at the end working out everyone's bill. And then collecting the money. We would definitely go again
Phil M — Google review
Best restaurant I've been to in a long time! Food was clean, well presented, well portioned, and importantly tasted great. Service was fantastic, our waiters were polite, funny, engaging and attentive with out being too clingy. The atmosphere was light, friendly, and the room held an air of 'care' afforded by the attention to detail. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful evening with lovely food!

Kelso Abbey, founded in 1128, is one of the four Abbeys in the Scottish Borders. Although it is the least intact, with only the west tower remaining, it still offers a glimpse into its rich history. Unlike other abbeys in the area, there is no entrance fee to explore its grounds during opening hours.
Closed due to ongoing work Still able to wonder at the architecture of a beautiful historic building

The Abbey is currently closed but still worth a look from the outside, the town itself is really nice for a few hours, plenty of independent shops.

Took a star away cos it is currently closed. But wow!!!! Definitely worth a look even if you can't actually walk in the grounds

I would say such a lovely day but it was raining quite heavily, but it seem to stop as we got closer and at Kelso, so when we got out to explore the places & the abbey it was dry. Everyone was so very friendly, that's the one thing I really like about anyway in Scotland. Lovely place to visit.
Maxine B — Google review
Lovely ruined abbey, walking distance from the town centre and its amenities. As other reviewers have stated the abbey has been fenced off for a long time with few signs of any refurbishment or repair work. However it is still an impressive monument and worth visiting. There are information boards about its history which are worth a read. The abbey is also the starting point for the river walk which was lovely.
John L — Google review
What an impressive Abbey this one is. Only let down by the fencing around while work is being carried out. Kelso Abbey is perfect for a quick 10 minute pass through on a long drive.

Another stop on the Borders Abbey Trail. Not as extensive as some of the other abbeys but close to a well paved walk alongside the River Tweed. Close to the town centre for lunch.

The Kelso War Memorial is a remarkable tribute, envisioned by the acclaimed architect Sir Robert Lorimer. Situated alongside the historic Kelso Abbey, it boasts an impeccably groomed garden that perfectly complements its grandeur. Designed in the form of a conventional market cross, this memorial serves as a serene space for contemplation and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the great wars. The park's beauty is truly breathtaking, and its well-maintained surroundings further enhance its charm.

Bridge
Nestled in the charming town of Kelso, the Kelso Bridge stands as a testament to engineering prowess, crafted by John Rennie, who later went on to design London Bridge. This stunning structure has witnessed its share of history, including riots in 1854 when locals protested against tolls that lingered long after construction costs were recouped.

There are two types of kebab restaurant in my experience; run-of-the-mill takeaways vs posher, sit in restaurants. I think this place mainly does takeaways, (they seemed a little surprised that we wanted to eat in) but if you eat in they pull out all the stops to improve the experience. This was by far the best kebab I've ever had from a takeaway style kebab house. It wasn't as good as the best sit in restaurant style kebab places I've been to, but since it was priced like a takeaway kebab house that's only to be expected. I had a large chicken kebab and they served it with two sauces on the side and all the salad was beautifully fresh and the flat bread was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely go back if I'm ever in Kelso again. My partner had a pizza (he's not a fan of kebabs) and said it was above average for what you'd expect from a multitasking (kebab/burger/pizza) joint and he enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend this place, and if you want a kebab you should sit in for the best experience.

Stopped in here for lunch as the place we visited first was unfortunately full. We really liked to food which was nicely prepared and very tasty. However one of the servers didn't have the best customer care (stand offish) and it was difficult to enjoy the nice food as was dealing with a wasps e everywhere which was bothering the both out party and the other customers so sadly we were quite relieved to get out of the cafe after finishing lunch

Nice little tearoom, with a good atmosphere and lovely staff. We just went for a coffee, but will definitely come back for lunch another day. It was busy, which speaks for its popularity!
Arno B — Google review
We'd heard so many good things about this place, in fact the last time we were in Kelso a month ago, it was chockablock so we didn't bother. Arrived and seated at the back on the corridor to the toilet. This is a narrow corridor area with two seat tables either side, however we had our little dog with us and it was quite awkward for everyone including the other customers and those using the toilets. We couldn't relax because our dog was in the way but there's so little room there. We looked at the menu's and made a choice. I had to return back to the car so told my partner that I would like the camembert with artisan bread. 5 minutes later when I returned, I was told that this was the evening menu. It's not really clear as it only tells you this in the bottom right hand corner of the sheet of paper. So we went for the panini and the quiche. Both were very nice, however, we both ordered a pot of tea which came 5 minutes after the meals. I think that was a first for us in any cafe we have ever visited. It was very nice food but the service was a little displaced and putting us at the back with a dog which other patrons, those serving meals and counter staff had to step over constantly, wasn't ideal. We couldn't enjoy our meal because of having to move our dog away from feet constantly

Just to say that my review was for Lemon and Thyme. I've heard that the restaurant has either changed owners, or has a new chef and I've not been since it because Salt'n'Fire. I hope it is still as good as it was. Want to have a really enjoyable meal? Come here! A menu that’s has enough choice, but isn’t overwhelming. A menu where you still have trouble choosing because it all sounds good ... and it turns out that it looks and tastes excellent. Front of house are friendly, amusing and attentive. If you live in the Borders or are just visiting, then pay Lemon and Thyme a visit. In my view this is the best restaurant in the Borders. We were back and I thought I should update the review? Was it as good as I remembered? Oh yes! Ryan looked after us front of house Not sure what to have because you like the look of everything on the menu, or what to pair with your meal? Ryan is there to help and knows his food and drink. The kitchen was producing consistent, high quality food, even though it was a busy night and I think the restaurant may have been full. We'll be back next month :-)

Ordered a cheesy garlic bread along with a spicy chicken pizza and large chips, firstly it was £23 which is ok if food edible. My daoghert couldn't wait so ate a slice of cheesy garlic bread on car, she said oh mum this doesn't taste like it has garlic on it so I taste it and I have to agree with her so we drive back to see if they had forgotten the garlic, well I was greeted with attitude and told that it was the same as usual and what did I want him to do about it! Upon reflection your chips are awful too.

Smailholm Tower is a 4-story stone tower dating back to the 1400s, located on a hilltop near Kelso. As a classic example of a Pele tower, it served as protection for border families against raiders. Built by the Pringle family, it stands as an isolated sentinel overseeing the landscape and was designed to safeguard the family and their cattle from Border Reivers.
Dramatically situated, there are spectacular views of the Merse and the Cheviots to be had from the roof. Entry to the vaulted ground floor is challenging if you are tall like me (but then so are some bits of my house). Well worth a visit.
Mike B — Google review
I passed Smailholm Tower when following a walking route. It was more impressive than I had been expecting. The track leading to the tower had rocky outcrops covered in flowering gorse. There is a pond that adds to the scenic view of the tower on approach. There is a small carpark that had all but one car in when I passed by. I didn’t realise the tower is open to the public and tickets can be bought online. I didn’t go inside so I cannot comment on that, other than it’s not accessible to those with mobility issues. There was a sign also saying there are no public toilets in the tower, which might also be an issue for some people.
Melanie H — Google review
Paul was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. The tower and internal displays were excellent and we were pleasantly surprised that the building was dry with no hint of damp or mustiness. The surrounding property is beautiful and the views from the tower are breathtaking. My wife and I highly recommended a visit to this wonderful place.

Of all the Historic Scotland sites this is the most disappointing. Whilst we are members I would be gutted to pay the adult and kids prices from what it is. Don't get me wrong the building is impressive and the views equally so but compared to other sites at the same price you will not be there long. Unlike most sited they DONT allow DOGS so leave the pooch at home for this one. There are no toilets so.given this is quite remote factor a toilet stop.

Fast food restaurant
Kwan's Chinese Takeaway in South Edinburgh, specifically the Burdiehouse area, is highly recommended by locals. The food is described as fresh and perfectly cooked, with standout dishes like sweet and sour chili beef that are simply irresistible. Despite a few hiccups with orders and payment methods, visitors have found the staff to be friendly and accommodating.
Visits whilst staying 5 mins out of Kelso. Food was beautiful and piping hot. Highly recommend if you get the chance. Front of house staff were friendly and kind. 10/10. will 100% return if in the area.

Guy that served me was friendlyon the phone and in person. Had a king prawn chow mein. Family had other things. Was well liked all round. 👍

Food was rapidly out of the kitchen, took that on the chin, ordered the dry chow mein...it is absolutely swimming in gravy, apparently that is the dry one, would not 3xchange it even though its not what i asked for, trouble understanding basic English language is surely the first thing to learn, food was screaming hot so just out the microwave, bland as hell apart from the deep fried shredded beef which tasted like soil. On top of that you are lucky to find them open, avoid at all costs, even China red across the street was better and that's no compliment

Food was delicious and very fresh tasting, the best chicken green pepper black bean sauce we've had in years, not too dark and just right amount of black bean. Chicken curry fried rice was lovely. Would Def order again

I regularly order food from Kwans , it is always hot , always cooked well , and very very very consistent , when I order from there I know I will recieve exactly the same food the next time , and the service is always friendly

Myself and my family used this takeaway while on holiday and I found the 'behind the counter' staff very friendly and helpful, it took a little while longer than expected to get our food and part of of £50+ order was wrong as I got 2 dishes that I didn't order but as we had travelled all day we just accepted this and ate what was in front if us and in defence if tge restaurant it was very tasty (whatever it was) The food was nice and hot and the portions were perfect.

This one is tough to review. The wonton soup is fragrant and delicious, the battered chicken with sweet and sour sauce is crispy, juicy and succulent and well seasoned, the prawns in satay sauce were gorgeous and all dishes seem to come with a healthybalanceofveggies. The beef in Blackbean sauce was OK but we think let the side down (either that or the prawn crackers) as several of us had loose bowels after consumption. Highly Recommend the chef reduces the menu choices massively and focuses on authentic Chinese dishes ensuring fresh ingredients in a clean kitchen are always used. The cooking is too good to be undermined like this.

Strange times, COVID restrictions in place remember. I phoned at 1833hrs (there's a fb page but no online ordering) and asked for beef curry fried rice, special curry boiled rice and rice & chips with sweet and sour sauce so nothing weird. The chap told me 40 minutes but I realised when walking round it was cash only (£20.12) and I only had contactless or a card so returned for the folding stuff putting me comfortably over the 40 minutes. On arrival the shop was pretty packed, with a more or less orderly queue of bodies outside except for a throng at the door. I went straight in to collect my food and when at the counter alas!...not ready, but they kindly relieved me of the money and sent me outside to the cold, dark and drizzly night. The next 20 minutes dragged by before being called forward to collect my food at the still throngy door. Some had brought vehicles and sat listening to Radio 3 Live from the Met with demisters and engines running on a narrow street with people occasionally spilling onto the roadway-as the weather worsens so will this aspect of carry out food while-you-wait. The food is still tasty, I especially like the cut and texture of the onions, all correct, no complaints. Just need more planning the next time. Or the server to be realistic with a pick up time. Maybe they only start cooking once you've paid and are definitely there, but you'd never get them to tell you this anyway, my conjecture only.
