Waterfalls
Tarsus Waterfall, located in Mersin, Turkey, is a popular tourist spot known for its stunning natural beauty. The waterfall was formed when the Berdan Stream changed its course in the 5th century, creating an impressive cascade that attracts visitors with its enthusiastic appearance, especially in spring. Surrounded by dense forests and lush vegetation, the waterfall offers public viewing platforms and restaurant options where visitors can enjoy a bite amidst the fragrant jasmines and tranquil waters.
We visited here as part of our trip to Tarsus and really enjoyed it. Access is through a restaurant, although we did not stop to eat. Entrance is completely free as is the large car park. The waterfall is wide and beautiful, but the part we liked the most was the friendly atmosphere from the locals. There are picnic tables set up around the viewing site and they were packed with local people coming here to have a picnic breakfast, and were also singing and dancing, in fact they invited us to share their breakfast and dance with them. There is a duck pond outside with a waterfall which also connects to the main falls. We'll worth going and bring a picnic!
Rebecca P — Google review
The view of the falls is fantastic.. You definitely must see and take pictures when you're in adana or mersin it takes only 30 to 40 minutes to get there by car.
Fadia F — Google review
The view and location are very nice. It would be much better if they could organize the tables and seating a little more. The prices are a little high.

Tarsus Şelalesi is a waterfall located in Mersin, Turkey. It is a popular tourist attraction in the region, known for its picturesque setting and natural beauty. The waterfall is located in the Tarsus district of Mersin, and it is surrounded by dense forests and lush vegetation. It is fed by the Berdan River, which flows down from the mountains and through the forests before plunging over the edge of the waterfall. The waterfall is approximately 30 meters tall, and it is a popular spot for swimming, picnicking, and hiking. There are also several restaurants and cafes located near the waterfall, offering a range of local dishes and refreshments.

Danyal Peygamber Kabri - Makam-ı Şerif Câmii

Mosque
Makam-ı Şerif Camii, also known as the Mosque of Prophet Daniel, is a significant religious site located in Tarsus, Turkey. Constructed in 1857, it is believed to house the grave of the prophet Danyal. This mosque holds great historical and cultural importance as it is the only prophet tomb in Turkey.
Important landmark with rich historical ingredients...
Atilla I — Google review
Prophet Daniel rests in peace at Tarsus. He was from sons of Israel and lived in Jerusalem. He had been known as prophet of fertility or rain-maker. He was called upon duty when a severe draught hit Tarsus in order to pray for rain fall. He died at Tarsus during that journey. After many years Islamic forces conquered the city and they found his skeleton and a finger with a ring. Danyal identity is discovered from that ring with figure of two lions and a kid in between. His body re-buried hidden so that his grave could not be detected and therefore it was protected against theft of grave diggers stealing it. This was a precaution taken by Omer the Caliph.

Very well organised....

One of the three tombs on prophet Daniel claimed to be found in the whole world. This is an hystorical site but most probably with no connection with prophet Daniel and above there is a mosque. If you are in the area it is worth to visit.

Cleopatra Gate, situated on the Mersin road, is a reconstructed 28-ft. city-gate dating back to the 2nd century and named after Cleopatra's visit to Tarsus. The ancient city of Tarsus was enclosed by concentric defense walls with three gates, including the Cleopatra Gate. Although it is one of the oldest cities in the world, this monument could use more recognition in the city.
Another ancient spot accessible to anyone walking by. It's located in the middle of a traffic circle and accessible to anyone who wants to visit. Plan to be there for a maximum of 15 minutes to read the description and take some pictures.
Julia A — Google review
When Cleopatra came to Tarsus to meet her lover Mark Antony, they were welcomed with a great ceremony in Gözlükule port and it is said that they came to the city from this gate, built during the Byzantine Period. It’s a historical landmark but there’s not much to see here. The gate is in the middle of a roundabout on the busy streets and free of cost to visit. It would be wonderful if the responsible authority added a signboard detailing its historical significance near the gate. Definitely worth paying a visit and taking some pictures while in Tarsus!
Anusha R — Google review
A fascinating historical gate connected with the legendary Cleopatra. Even though only one part remains, it gives a real sense of Tarsus’s ancient past. A quick but meaningful stop.
Samira S — Google review
(Info taken from Wikipedia)Tarsus was enclosed by a pair of concentric defense walls . According to 17th century-Turkish traveler Evliya Çelebi, there were three gates; a mountain gate to Toros Mountains in the north, a port gate to the Mediterranean coastline in the south and the Adana Gate to the neighbouring city of Adana in the east.[1] In 1835, the walls were demolished by Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt, following the Egyptian–Ottoman War of 1831–1833.[2] Only the port gate survived up to the present time, albeit because of alluvial deposits from the rivers Berdan and Seyhan, the coastline is currently 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of the port gate. Cleopatra entered Tarsus via the port gate.[3] The history of the gate after Cleopatra is not documented, but by analyzing the building stones and the cement, it is usually believed that the original gate was rebuilt during the Middle Ages, either by the Byzantine Empire or by the Abbasids. The popular name of the gate was Kancık Kapı (feminine gate) during the late Ottoman period. However, from the early 20th century, the name Cleopatra kapısı ("Cleopatra's Gate") replaced the former name.
Ahmet T — Google review
Cleopatra came to Tarsus in 41 BCE, answering the call of the Roman statesman, Mark Antony. His intention was to turn her into a valuable ally in the planned military invasion of the Parthian Empire. Cleopatra initially responded to the invitation in a reluctant manner, delaying the trip to Tarsus. Her strategy was to show that the queen does not come at the beck and call. Eventually, she came to Tarsus, turning her arrival into a gigantic spectacle. She sailed from the coast upstream Cydnus, now known as the Berdan Çayı. Her barge covered with gold plates, it was equipped with silver oars and purple sails. The ship was filled with flowers and liberally sprinkled with exotic perfumes. Cleopatra herself was dressed as the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. Mark Antony could not resist the charms of the queen. Therefore, in addition to gaining a powerful ally in the war that soon erupted between him and Octavian, he also became her lover. By analysing the stones and the cement used in the construction of the Cleopatra's Gate, it is assumed that the original gate was rebuilt during the Middle Ages. It is not clear whether the reconstruction was ordered by the emperors of Byzantium or the rulers of the Abbasid dynasty. Tarsus city walls were demolished in 1835, on the orders of Ibrahim Pasha, the governor of Egypt. As a result of the First Ottoman-Egyptian War, waged in the years 1831-1833, the areas of Syria and Adana, including Tarsus, came under Egyptian control. The Port Gate is one of the few parts of the ramparts of Tarsus, which has been preserved to our times.
Ramil K — Google review
It would be great if they added more historical information on a sign near the gate to show it's significance. It's a beautiful gate, and not far from the center, but it is in the middle of a busy road.
Amy H — Google review
Cleopatra Gate stands proudly in the middle of a bustling street, a symbol of Tarsus's legendary past. While its name evokes images of the iconic queen herself, a quick history lesson reveals the gate you see today is a much younger.

Tarsus Hayvan Parkı is an excellent destination showcasing a diverse range of animals. However, it's advised to cover your nose during hot weather. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the entrance fees for adults and students are affordable at 5 and 2 units respectively. It would be beneficial if Tarsus municipal authorities could improve the road leading to the park as its condition is subpar.
Great place to visit with the family and kids. The animals are well taken care of. We saw foxes and chicken breasts lying next to them, which means the animals are fully fed and well taken care of. Very clean zoo. Highly recommend.

The zoo is large, interesting, and well maintained. It is better to take a stroller or baby slings with you. It will take more than 1.5 hours.

With well-maintained habitats and knowledgeable staff, Tersus Hayvan Parkı is a haven for nature enthusiasts seeking a harmonious blend of conservation and education.

When exploring the culinary scene in Tarsus, one must not miss Bedii Usta Kebap Salonu. The menu features mouthwatering options like their signature Adana kebab and delectable hazelnut lahmacun, both crafted with care and generous portions.
Bedii usta is one of the best kebab’s house in Tarsus. We ordered 1.5 portion lahmacun, humus with pastrami and 4 portion Adana kebab. Adana kebab prepared with special knife, name is zirh. The portions here are so big especially the minced meat kebap. One portion is enough for two people, but taste wise, I would say it was average. For a higher than average price, you would expect a different flavor, but it was quite average I can say. The findik lahmacun was delicious and the side dishes of salads were fresh. The place itself is quite small indoors and loud so you should sit outside if you can. Overall, an acceptable or okay experience but it could have been better in terms of flavors. The location is very central and close to multiple historical sites.

A nice spot by the waterfall and I came in summer to cool off on a hot day, but they didn’t allow us to sit by the waterfall because they said all the tables were reserved. I sat for 2 hours and 1 table stayed empty the whole time. I don’t mind sitting somewhere else but the problem is if you sit on the other side, it is so hot and there aren’t enough fans. So I was eating the food and sweating and this made me leave quickly right after eating. Now about the food, lahmacun and the bread were so fresh and delicious. The chicken and Ali Nazik were also delicious but I wouldn’t recommend the hummus at all! The staff was so busy but they delivered the food quickly and they tried to help with the heat but as I said the fans weren’t enough. I think visiting towards the evening or during winter could be a more enjoyable experience.

This is the most kick-ass lunch experience you can present to your guests&friends in Tarsus. Food is more than good enough, especially if you know how to work the Maitre d's. The view and air is what kills you. Its a low height but very wide fall of famous Berdan river. And you are dining right at the break point of the waters. They grow their own fish in a small alcove filled with fresh wonderful waters of Berdan. Cleopatra would feel extremly enchanted if Antonius took her there. Tarsus is where that couple met and mated, you know. ;)

If you're wandering through Tarsus, make sure to stop by Cigerci Apo, a gem known for its mouthwatering liver shish kebabs. Diners rave about the juicy and flavorful skewers that are served alongside fresh salads, appetizers, and warm lavash bread. The attentive service ensures you’re well taken care of throughout your meal. Many visitors have enjoyed the mixed liver and meat options as well, often ordering in batches to savor them while hot.

They should be ashamed, of the way they charged me 70 Tl extra for the service once they heard me speaking another language, I was with my guest so I didn’t want to tartışma about it, ayıp ve kibar değildir when you charge people extra money because they are foreigners or tourists , this is not professional and they gave a bad image about Turkey and temiz Turkish people. I don’t recommend it at all, and hakimi helal etmeyeceğim.

(Translated by Google) This is the place we definitely visit when we come from Istanbul. The attention, the food, the appetizers are all great. If you come, it is recommended. (Original) İstanbuldan geldiğimizde mutlaka uğradığımız mekan. Ilgi alaka yemek meze hepsi harika. Gelirseniz tavsiyedir.

(Translated by Google) I've had liver shish kebab here 3-4 times. The service, salads, appetizers, lavash bread, and drinks were all good. The liver was delicious and juicy. 7 skewers of liver cost 70 TL. The only problem is that, like everything else, liver has become more expensive due to inflation. I settled for 7 bottles when I could have eaten 10. 10 skewers of liver cost 80 TL.

(Translated by Google) Their craftsmanship is great. They are very attentive. They ask you every 5 minutes if you want something. We bought mixed liver and meat shish kebabs, five at a time so that they wouldn't get cold, a total of 10 shish kebabs came. The price was also very reasonable. Just the lavash could have been hot. They were very delicious. Even my wife who doesn't eat liver ate it with pleasure. The yayık ayran and turnip juice were also very nice. The treats were also a plus 👏🏻 (Original) Esnaflıkları harika. Çok iyi ilgileniyorlar. 5 dakikada bir, bir şey ister misiniz diye soruyorlar. Ciğer ve et şiş karışık aldık soğumasın diye beşer beşer toplamda 10 şiş geldi. Fiyatı da gayet uygundu. Sadece lavaşlar da sıcak olabilirdi. Çok lezzetliydiler. Ciğer yemeyen eşim bile bayılarak yedi. Yayık ayranı ve şalgamı da çok güzeldi. İkramlar da cabası 👏🏻

(Translated by Google) Livers are beautiful and delicious. But the appetizers are a bit weak. The environment is spacious and the prices are reasonable. Liver service for 2 people is 65 TL. (Original) Cigerler güzel ve lezzetli. Ama mezeler biraz zayıf kalıyor. Ortamı ferah fiyatlar makul. 2kişi ciğer servis 65 TL.
