The Cathedral of San Rufino is a 13th-century church located in Assisi, Italy. It is divided into two main churches, the Lower and Upper basilicas. The interior features ornate friezes, statues, and numerous chapels such as those dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene and St. Louis of Toulouse. The cathedral has an unmistakable Romanesque character with modern features added during the 16th century.
Beautiful Cathedral. Very quiet and cool. It has glass floor panel where you can see down to the ancient Roman tunnels.

I already visited Assisi two times and I will do it again and again. It is a great town where you enjoy history, old places, cathedrals and saints... The Cathedral is well know and usually open for tourists. Make sure to spent at least 2 days in Assisi where you can enjoy food and wine as well.
Wadad L — Google review
May 2025. The cathedral is free to enter and worth visiting, but it also has a museum and tower that you can access for a fee. The museum has a guide / recommended path so you don't miss anything. The view from the tower is very nice, plus you are able to get close to the church bells.
Patrick V — Google review
The Cathedral of San Rufino is beautiful and steeped in history. It gets busy, especially since admission is free, but the visit is quick and absolutely worthwhile. Definitely worth a stop while exploring Assisi.
Valentina M — Google review
Lovely church, fabulous bell tower with views of Assisi. Experience where Francis and Clare were baptized. Some early Roman ruins under the church made visible. Great art as always!
Randy H — Google review
Fabulous architecture and paintings. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take photos inside the cathedral, but it's right to respect the people and mass, therefor it's ok.
Sema G — Google review
Cappella delle Rose in this medieval Cathedral, fine frescoes by Tiberio d'Assisi, from 1518, depicting scenes from the Saint's life are the main attraction. The multi-paneled canvas Madonna of the Rosary, painted in 1581 by Lorenzo Doni, paintings by Jacopo della Quercia and Filippo Lippi, highlights of this place

Beautiful Church! You get to see the place St Francis was baptised and received sanctifying grace. Why wouldn’t you go here?

The Foligno Cathedral, dedicated to San Feliciano, suffered damage from seismic events in 1997 and 2006, rendering it unusable. However, its external beauty still captivates visitors. The Umbrian Romanesque facade boasts an impressive portal sculpted by masters Rodolfo and Binello. The cathedral's construction dates back to 1113-1201 on the site where the patron saint of the city was martyred in 251 AD.
Today we were just able to see this cathedral from the outside but the architecture and ornamentation are beautiful and very interesting. I especially find the various lion statues to have particular personalities. I would love to learn more and have a more thorough visit

Dedicated to Saint Felician: It is dedicated to the patron saint of the city, Saint Felician, the first bishop of Foligno, martyred in 251 AD. The cathedral stands on the site of his burial. * Ancient Origins: Built on the site of a previous basilica, its origins date back to the 9th-10th centuries, with a first significant renovation in 1133. * Witness to History: It has undergone numerous restorations and modifications over the centuries, reflecting the historical and artistic changes of the region. Architecture: * Double Façade: It features two distinct façades: the main, simpler one, and a second façade overlooking Piazza della Repubblica, considered a jewel of Romanesque architecture from 1201, the work of masters Rodolfo and Binello. This façade is adorned with sculptures with classical references, a portal with profiles of the sun, moon, and stars, and internal arches decorated with the signs of the zodiac. * Different Styles: The cathedral is an example of the fusion of architectural styles, from Romanesque to Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical, the result of the various phases of construction and restoration. * Neoclassical Interior: The interior was radically transformed in the Neoclassical style between 1772 and 1819 according to a project by Giuseppe Piermarini. * 16th-Century Dome: It has an elegant 16th-century dome, the work of Giuliano di Baccio D'Agnolo. * Romanesque Crypt: It preserves the crypt, the oldest part of the church, with architectural remains from the pre-Romanesque period. Art and Culture: * Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament: Noteworthy is the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, built in 1527 by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, with frescoes by Vespasiano Strada and Baldassare Croce depicting the life of Saint Felician. * Silver Statue of Saint Felician: Inside, there is a valuable silver statue of the patron saint. * Baroque Baldachin: Above the high altar stands a carved and gilded wooden baldachin from 1698, inspired by Bernini's baldachin in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. * Diocesan Capitular Museum: Adjacent to the cathedral, in the Palazzo delle Canoniche, is the Diocesan Capitular Museum which houses works of art from the cathedral and the diocese, including the recently restored crypt. * Confession of Angela of Foligno: The cathedral was the place where the Blessed Angela of Foligno made her confession to the Franciscan friar Arnaldo.

The Museum of Glass, located in a charming area near Citta della Pieve, Umbria, offers an ideal family-friendly experience. Visitors can witness the art of glassmaking and observe artisans at work. The museum is housed in a well-maintained and organized old building that showcases the history of glass production. While the information provided is primarily in Italian, guided tours are available for English-speaking visitors.
It was amazing and the staff was very helpful and eager to explain everything about the museum.

The space is amazing! An old building where all the glassmaking happened in the past! Very well organized, but information written was all in Italian. Staff wasn’t much helpful explaining the museum to us, but we navigated through it just fine. It’s a shame there’s no glass making showcase itself.
Cassie M — Google review
Interesting for me, but most might be bored. Basically a display of what was. Seems like they could do more with the museum. A little hard to follow the process and I have worked in glass factories rebuilding the firebrick.

Although small, I found this very interesting. We were spoiled as we were lucky enough to be guided around the museum as there is not much in English.

La Scarzuola is a restored 16th-century monastery and architectural complex that offers guided tours by reservation. The site features eccentric architecture, theaters, and temples arranged along a hilly path, creating a surreal atmosphere. Originally a Franciscan abbey built by Saint Francis in 1218, the property was purchased by architect Tomaso Buzzi in 1958. Buzzi transformed it into his ideal city with seven theaters, blending historical styles and symbols in his designs.
A truly unique experience. Amazing art installation used for commercials, product launches, and movies. The 'road' to get there is a bit rough but it's worth the trip!

Amazing place. A convent/church that has been revived by a genius architect and artist who built magnificent and creative theaters behind it. Unique. Wherever you look, you'll see another work of art. Entrance only on weekends by pre reservation. The tour (mandatory) is a bit too long, and *you can't* leave before it ends...

PLEASE AVOID! Leaving one star because I can’t leave no stars. I don’t even know where to begin. We arrived after 11am on a Saturday morning (hadn’t checked the website as I always check opening times on google maps, perhaps my fault), and were rushed in by somebody standing at the gate to the property. Without explaining much, he told us it was 10€ per person, and we paid in cash. He locked the gate and told us to follow him. We arrived to an amazing amphitheater where there were about 100 people, half of them listening to an older guy speaking very loudly in Italian. It was no problem we didn’t understand half of it, at least we would get a tour of the place, or so we thought. He rambled for at least 45 min… not really sure if that was supposed to be a tour or what, but we decided we were not willing to spend the next hour listening to a mad man talking about the universe in the intense heat, without seeing any of the actual place! Worst 10€ spent, ever. Still, we thought we’d cut our losses and asked the man who we paid to let us in, to let us out. No big deal right? He told us to wait 5 min, which we did. After that, we asked again if we could leave. Very very quickly he got quite defensive, and said (not jokingly) he “might not let us out at all”. EXCUSE ME, WHAT? I’ve never ever experienced such awful customer care/experience. We can laugh about it now but panic was starting to set it, honestly. I was so ready to call the police when he started walking towards the exit. We followed him and thank god! What an absolute nightmare. We were finally free. I’m sure the place is amazing, and I would have loved to see more of it, but it’s really not worth dealing with such tw***. Spend your money somewhere else. In a pizza, a glass of wine, an aperol spritz or anywhere else where you’ll feel you’re actually treated with respect. PLEASE AVOID!!
Silvia S — Google review
The place is beautiful and for sure culturally and historically fascinating, but as a person with limited understanding of Italian, I felt like I was a prisoner of the tour guides who refused to let us leave after an hour of listening to an abstract monologue full of insults and inside jokes that no one found funny. In the end we convinced someone to open the door for us, but were denied the honor of seeing medieval frescoes, which felt a lot like a vendetta for our lack of appreciation for the tour. The road leading to the place is definitely only fit for 4x4 cars. If you have one, speak Italian and also have 10€, 2 hours and a lot of patience then I guess it can be worth it. Really curious to know what guardia di finanza would say about the fact there is cash only & no receipts policy.
Joanna R — Google review
The architect Tomaso Buzzi is the creative mind who brought together historical styles, symbols, and quotes from the past in his designs for this aritecture park. Built on the ex-property of a Franciscan monestary. Our guide, the nephew of Buzzi, opened the visit by noting: "St. Francis was the first who used drugs" as a way to think about the way people use drugs today to change their perception of the world. The tour is in italian but there is someone on hand to help with English sums on the side. Group visit is big (c100 people) but the guide uses a speaker-microphone so it was easy to hear. Also, big open spaces and much freedom to walk around and take photos. It seemed to me many people in my group did not read about the site in advance OR were not open-minded enough to appreciate the site and the guide. I highly recommend the site for people who want to have an experience outside the norm of guided visits to art-gardens in Italy. Be sure to rsvp weeks in advance.

Incredible history of architecture and sculpture! Must visit but call and book in advance as they often don't take bookings/no last minute entries! 10euro per person

Amazing surreal place in the middle of nowhere. Despite all the complaints about the guide I thought it was fantastic and suit the uncommon nature of the place itself! He's a genius.

A different experience into a place hidden from society and frozen in time. Not quite easy to reach but definitely worth it. The architecture is full of mystical symbols and the guide stories are both interesting and fun. Preorder are received by emails for groups of min 8 persons

The Cathedral Museum, situated near the Basilica Cathedral of Saints Florido and Amanzio, houses a collection of significant jewelry pieces discovered in 1935 at the Canoscio Sanctuary. The museum also features the round bell tower where tombs and reliquaries of patron saints were found in 1356. (Translated by Google) The highlight of this museum is the so-called "Chamois Treasure", found fortuitously in a field between the two world wars, a very important testimony of the Goths in Italy. These are liturgical objects for the Mass, from the 6th century; a truly unique work. Other interesting works: the embossed silver frontal from the 12th century, a parchment from Emperor Frederick Barbarossa from 1163, The Risen Christ in Glory by Rosso Fiorentino, Madonna and Child and the Infant Saint John by Pinturicchio.

(Translated by Google) To climb the bell tower you need a ticket costing €4, which can be purchased in a place next to the cathedral (absolutely worth visiting because it is spectacular). It is accessed via a metal gate and a wooden door to be opened with keys that are provided to you at the ticket office in exchange for a document. The climb is quite short (in 5 minutes you reach the top), but there are some points with narrow and slightly high steps, so you have to be very careful. The first location of the Cathedral Museum consisted of only two rooms (approx. 60 m2), which were accessed from the sacristy of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Florido and Amanzio: in one of them sacred vestments were displayed, in the other they were gathered silverware and paintings. On 23 March 1991, an enlarged and renovated headquarters was inaugurated, consisting of seven rooms (approx. 430 m2), distributed over two floors, some of which were part of the old sacristies of the Cathedral, from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and others locals were instead from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.

(Translated by Google) I must say that Città di Castello is a small town left very much to itself. The Cathedral? How is it possible to see a Cathedral, the most important church in the country, left open without even a person in charge checking it. What I liked. The ceiling struck me, a beautiful blue, I think it might be lapis lazuli. The dome inside is very beautiful, with very beautiful designs. The crypt is also interesting and large. I think the façade has been remodeled very recently, but above you can still see how it should have been in the beginning. I have to say that I'm a little confused at the main entrance, I don't really understand if it's the one next to the Palazzo dei Priori, or the one that leads to the Duomo Museum.

Arezzo Cathedral, also known as Cattedrale di Arezzo, is a hilltop medieval cathedral dedicated to Saint Donatus. It features a stunning Piero della Francesca fresco and notable stained-glass windows by Frenchman Guillaume de Marcillat. The Gothic cathedral's unfinished facade was completed in the 20th century.
I cant remember buying tickets here...maybe because there was a funeral right before we entered. The frescoes on the ceiling are breathtaking. The interior is a little darker than other churches/cathedrals so far. You wanna sit here and just enjoy the details.
Rok S — Google review
This fantastic Cathedral rises atop a hill in the upper part of the city, on the foundations of an ancient early Christian church where a Roman acropolis likely once stood. Begun in the Gothic style during the 13th century, the construction of the dome, dedicated to Saints Peter and Donatus, was not completed until three centuries later, in 1511, after numerous cycles of alteration. Its bell tower with tall, twin windows, designed by Luigi Mercanti, was built between 1857 and 1859. The last reconstruction of the façade was carried out between 1901 and 1914, based on a design by Viviani intended to replace the unfinished one dating back to the 15th century. Dominating the city, this imposing three-nave building, without a transept, boasts seven beautiful stained-glass windows created by the monk and master glassmaker Guillaume de Marcillat from Berry. The French artist worked between Arezzo and Cortona from 1516. This masterpiece of glass art was created in two phases, between 1516 and 1517, and then between 1522 and 1524. These illustrious biblical tales can be admired in the vaults of the first three bays of the main nave and the first bay of the left aisle. Also inside are the small but famous 15th-century fresco of Mary Magdalene by Piero della Francesca, glazed terracotta sculptures by Andrea della Robbia, and the tombs of the 14th-century Bishop Guido Tarlati and Pope Gregory X, who died in Arezzo in 1276.

This is a very impressive cathedral high up on the hill in Arezzo. Inside it is both dark, cavernous and cool which adds to the sense of majesty. A funeral was taking place while we visited which was quite moving and showed how this is a working church for the city. Unfortunately this means that it doesn't seem to have much in the way of signs for tourist visitors.

Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is located in the Parco dei Monti Rognosi, a natural reserve in the Valtiberina Toscana. The museum, housed in a historic building constructed from medieval tower houses, has been showcasing art and architectural pieces since 1975. Visitors can admire works such as a Nativity by Andrea della Robbia and a wooden sculpture of the Virgin by Jacopo della Quercia.
Well worth a visit..beautiful Renaissance artifacts and buildings to look at and marvel at the wonderful craftsmanship. Lovely town to wander around filled with narrow winding streets. Great places to eat and drink..full of character. Loved it. Recomend spending the day there. Check out some of the beautiful churhes too and see one of the most historic paintings of all..

I have previously lived in Italy and have visited dozens of museums throughout the peninsula; this was by far the worst Italian museum experience I have ever had. Better artifacts can be viewed in any antique Italian church for free, and the cold, unwelcoming, and condescending staff seem to try their best to destroy whatever atmospheric charm this small, bush-league exhibition could possess. Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is a thoroughly mediocre museum paired with a thoroughly unfriendly staff. Don’t waste your time or money.
Caleb G — Google review
This would be a nice museum, however the staff hovers over you as if waiting for you to break or touch something. Our family went through - my husband and four children ages 13 to 22. My 22 year old son ( an honors history major - who studied a year in Viterbo) was told he was not allowed to go ahead of us and had to stay with us. My son has been in museums all over Italy much larger and grander than this museum and was never treated this rudely. It was ridiculous. Hard to enjoy the art and history while someone looks over your shoulder and directs you to the next room. She even opened the door to let us exit.

(Translated by Google) Visited with everything that the Borgo contains... which is a lot. The Palace, which we see today, is the Renaissance result of an incorporation of previously existing tower houses and older structures and was the home of the Taglieschi family. Only this has already been "discovered" (I guarantee because it is a "choppy" route in a suggestive ups and downs) in the visit to the State Museum which collects the testimonies of the territory ranging from "material" coming from abandoned churches and not to collections such as those of weapons. For those who are lucky enough to happen upon "themed" visits there is the possibility of accessing the loggia from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the village but... it didn't happen to me... alas. It is possible to purchase a single ticket for entry to the Battle Museum. Remember that you enter on the hour (for example, I entered at 11:00) because you are accompanied on the visit. Once out I recommend climbing the stairs of Via della Torre... you can observe photographic glimpses at every step.

(Translated by Google) An absolutely fascinating visit to a museum which is a more unique than rare set of ancient tower houses conglomerated in a single labyrinthine palace. Inside there are very valuable wooden sculptures of sacred art that come from the surrounding area. The Madonnas with Child are also enchanting because they offer the possibility of enjoying women's fashion from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century down to the smallest details, in the rendering of the colored fabrics and the hairstyles painted on the wood. The Madonna by Jacopo della Quercia is marvelous with its sweet and intense expression. The lady who accompanied us on the visit was perfect and explained very interesting things to us. Museums
Housed in the 16th-century Palazzo del Marzocco, Museo della Battaglia e di Anghiari showcases a diverse range of collections spanning from prehistory to ancient Roman times. The museum features an extensive display of ancient firearms and local ceramics from the 18th century. A significant portion is dedicated to a digitized collection of Leonardo's battle-related drawings. The museum also highlights the history of the Battle of Anghiari and its connection to Leonardo da Vinci.
Small but got everything.

Visit only if you're intetested about this kind of history and battles. The tour inside this museum takes around 40 mins (We forgot to see the garden). There're 3 floors, you can find two 3D maps explaining where happened this battle, and how is the area. There're also paintings, materials of the battle. Then you can watch a short movie (in Italian & English) explaining about its history, then telling about the painting that exist in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. It's good also for kids because it's very simple, and not so boring. On the ground floor they sell collection of books also for kids, and some toys related to the battle, or Leonardo da Vinci in general.

(Translated by Google) It's a pretty disappointing museum. A very pleasant and well-kept container, the sixteenth-century Palazzo del Marzocco, corresponds to a modest content, not up to expectations. Of the battle of Anghiari there are only a few illustrative panels and a model of the deployments, which are not of high quality. The sector dedicated to weapons is very sparse and the weapons date back to centuries after the battle. Sure, you can read the fascinating story of the lost wall painting that Leonardo created for the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, but frankly you can read it anywhere. Virtual reconstructions just need to be made available and you can view them more comfortably at home. There are some paintings, but always without any connection with the battle, except a seventeenth-century copy of part of Leonardo's lost work and little else. The battle of Anghiari fought in 1440 between the Milanese troops of the Viscontis and the coalition led by the Republic of Florence deserves the presence of real and not virtual objects.

The Civic Museum Madonna del Parto in Monterchi, Tuscany, is home to the renowned fresco of a pregnant Virgin Mary painted by Piero della Francesca. The museum has recently undergone effective renovations and features a room dedicated to the masterpiece with perfectly positioned lighting. Additionally, two new rooms offer a theater-like video providing insight into Monterchi, the fresco, and the artist. Visitors praise the excellent interpretation materials available in Italian and English.
The Museum was renewed recently in a very effective way. The main attraction is, of course, the room with the masterpiece by Piero della Francesca, where the lights are positioned perfectly. There are also two new rooms with a brilliant “theater-like” video that introduces Monterchi, the fresco and the painter. Very well done and strongly recommended.

Nestled within the historic walls of Citta di Castello, the Cathedral of St. Florido and Amanzio stands as a testament to 11th-century architecture and artistry. Surrounded by elegant Renaissance buildings and charming courtyards, this cathedral is not just a place of worship but also houses a fascinating museum filled with religious artifacts and statues. The cylindrical bell tower, dating back to Roman times, offers visitors an exhilarating climb for panoramic views over the picturesque town and its stunning landscapes.

Observation Decks & Towers
The Round Bell Tower, located near the Cathedral of Saints Florido and Amanzio, is a unique cylindrical structure that has been a part of the city's skyline since the 11th century. Influenced by Byzantine-era architecture from Ravenna, this Romanesque tower stands at 43m/143 ft. and is home to local birdlife. Visitors can climb to the top with a ticket purchase and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Nestled in the heart of Italy, Carsulae is a captivating archaeological park that invites visitors to step back in time. This expansive site boasts numerous ancient structures, including the impressive Curia and Gemini Temples that overlook the Forum, along with remnants of a Basilica, Theatre, and Amphitheatre. As you wander through this historical treasure trove, you'll also encounter the serene Church of San Damiano.
the place is huge for the price of the ticket (reduced: 4€). while we were visiting there were some archeologists working and it was very interesting to watch them work (we asked in advance if we could take a peek!). it's all an open space so it's best to visit on a sunny day. it was fun to climb over the remains of a roman city and it was overall an interesting experience. it's unfortunately not wheelchair accessible as it's mainly on old roman roads and i believe they're impossible to go over them comfortably with wheels.

Great initiative yesterday they collaborated with Vega Sky Watching to observe the night sky during the Perseids shower and also had a cool "theater" of the cosmos inside the newly dig area of the ancient Roman amphitheater along with an interesting Yoga sounds performance that emulates the sounds of the cosmos at the nearby ancient complex. Moreover they're finally receiving funds for additional digging an warehouse/museum buildings so there will be a lot more to see starting this autumn. The excellent tour guide who is also one of the archeologists there, showed real excitement and she was very through with the details of course. Keep doing what you're doing and promote the tourism even more, the visit is well deserved.

Since the 13th century there has been news of a church dedicated to the Madonna della Stella, located near the former Hospital of Saints Philip and James, where the Servi di Maria settled in 1260, constituting a small oratory, subsequently incorporated into the fourteenth-century church. In 1298 the convent was built which in the same year hosted the General Chapter of the Order. At the same time, the construction of a larger church began and its essential structures were completed on the occasion of the General Chapter of the Order in 1306. The works continued until the mid-14th century when Frà Matteo from Pieve became General of the Order between 1344 and 1348. The Gothic building followed the typology of mendicant churches: a single nave with a trussed roof and a square cross-shaped apse. The Sacristy was built next to the choir, also with a square cross vault, a typology that also appears in the room below the church used as a cellar. Between 1486 and 1489, significant work was carried out to enlarge the Convent following the bequest of Frà Pietro Lazzari, Procurator General of the Order, from Pieve. In 1538 the church was consecrated and dedicated to the SS. Annunziata. Numerous artists created between '500 and 600 paintings for the side altars of the church. In 1628 Giuseppe di Francesco Bendini of Montepulciano created the wooden choir and the sacristy wardrobe. In 1703 work began on the construction of the Baroque church inside the Gothic one by the Sienese sculptor and plasterer Giovanni Antonio Mazzuoli who was responsible for the altarpiece, of particular scenographic effect. On the sides of the altar the Sienese sculptor created Bernini's stucco statues depicting the Blessed Giacomo Villa and the Blessed Matteo Lazzari. Inside there is a fifteenth-century "Pietà" in painted terracotta, inspired by the Germanic iconography of the Vesperbild, used by Perugino to represent the "Lamentation over the Dead Christ" in the Chapel of the Madonna della Stella, a fresco almost completely lost during the works that took place between 1707 and 1713 for the construction of an organ on the counter-façade. The most significant traces remain of the "Deposition from the Cross", one of the highest moments of Pietro Perugino's late artistic production (1517). The fresco, hidden by a cavity, was rediscovered by the German art historian and painter Antoon Ramboux in 1834. In 1713 the Ticino architect, sculptor and plasterer Pietro Cremona took over the management of the factory from Mazzuoli and designed the side altars and confessionals. In 1834 the neoclassical architect Giovanni Santini built the bell tower on one side of the facade. The church and the convent came into the possession of the Municipality in 1860, following the devolution laws of the unitary State. In 1912 the convent was used as a civil hospital. Today it houses the diocesan civic museum. The plan of the church is typical of monastic orders: interior with a single nave with a square apse and a cross vault. On the façade, Gothic style architecture is still visible, which was subsequently infilled. The three-lobed arches are made of brick. Around the middle of the 19th century, a bell tower was added to the church, designed in neoclassical style by the architect Giovanni Santini.

(Translated by Google) I visited the Perugino exhibition held here, in the Palazzo della Corgna and at the oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi. It starts from Palazzo della Corgna, there is no introduction to the exhibition, many things are taken for granted, some sections are not clear why they were included in this area and why certain works were chosen. An attempt is made to connect the sections to some of the 5 works by Perugino, present in the painter's native place. It seems like a missed opportunity to me, the only interesting sections are the second dedicated to the baptism and the last the deposition, of which there is also the reconstruction with the projector on the original fragments, and partly that on the adoration of the magi and shepherds. Well explained and edited. The section of Perugino's work in the Vatican is the worst exposed. The curator relied on people who were not suitable for exhibiting. The documents in the last room, apart from the first, on the payment of the tax on wine, do not clearly indicate where the other manuscripts come from and what they are. It is taken for granted that one understands the handwriting and language of the 16th century, they are not even present in the catalogue. At the diocesan museum the display cases are dark, due to the Perugino-themed books. I believe there are 27 pictorial works in total, plus the third site oratory, which is one of the masterpieces of Perugino's last phase. It shows enough, but I expected much more. At the diocesan museum they were not even able to scan the ticket issued at Palazzo della Corgna and the ticket is not given as a gift, 14 euros.

You must go here. The service and the food is outstanding - especially the pizza and pasta! The restaurant is quaint and cute with amazing quality and affordable prices. The staff are kind and anticipate your needs without you asking - even bringing us complimentary limoncello shots for our part of 6! We had an amazing time at this restaurant, our favorite during our stay in Città della Pieve.

“Tourists are not welcome” Upon arrival the waiter took our order and our starters arrived quite quickly. The starters were very pleasant and all was well. Maybe 5 minutes after our starters arrived our pizzas arrived as-well. We were taken aback as most of us weren’t finished with our starters and we found this choice quite odd. During the whole of our stay the entire staff kept glancing at our table and made soft remarks while passing by. We were missing a pizza and when asked the waiters multiple times they had to check every single time. When the pizza did arrive most of us were finished with our foods. Not wanting to let the rudeness of the staff impact our dining experience I was optimistic about the food since our starters were great and the overall reviews of the restaurant were nothing but amazing. Our food came and I found it to be beyond tragic. I ordered the mortadella pizza and I was severely disappointed. My dough was overflowing with flour and so consuming every bite with it. The mortadella was bland and the pistachio taste was nowhere to be found. During our stay, we couldn’t help but notice a quite particular foul smell that would greatly strengthen when the wind blew upon it. When we finished eating we wanted to take our leftovers home and asked our waiter. In return we were handed a piece of aluminium foil and a plastic bag. This whole experience was truly a shame. I find it a personal tragedy that food was handled this way. Edit: Comments from the restaurant owner should state the more than obvious state of the restaurant. Pathetic

After loving the food that we ate in Rome and Florence, my husband and I both agreed that our meal at Taverna del Perugino was our favorite. It was so good, that we came back the next evening. Everything was so delicious… from the red house wine, to the pizza, to the pasta, to the desserts… it was incredible and the service was great. We had the ragu and cacio e Pepe both evenings and loved the pici pasta the most. Our first night we had the tartufo and panna cotta with berries. The second night we had the tiramisu. All SO good! Highly recommend! Hoping we will be able to make it back here in the future.

Tourists welcome! This restaurant was recommended by another shop that was not currently serving pizza. No one in our group spoke Italian so we were a little anxious upon entering. Our server (owner?) spoke little English but provided us with menus entirely in english, and was incredibly patient with us while all 7 of us ordered. The pizza was unlike anything I've had state-side; thin, crispy, delicious, and a perfect ratio of toppings and cheese. The pizzas are labeled as personal, but are at least 12 inches in diameter (Apologies for the imperial measurement.) So if you're hungry order 1 per person. At less than $10 euros per pie, you really can't go wrong here. So glad this place was suggested to us, cannot wait to return!

I wanted a simple toasted ham and cheese Panini, but pizzacagnolo delivered a much better version of what I had in mind. The ham (prosciutto coto) was incredible, but the bread (some “top secret proprietary recipe” - the owner said) was a version of a light airy pizza dough. It was great and so inexpensive.

We bought some cheese in Citta della Pieve, gorgonzola for the pizza, and then Luca asked us if we know Schiacciate, his specialty for lunch. No sorry, we don’t know. Oh let me make you all my specialties, so you can taste what I have, what you don’t like? We told him we don’t like pork and anchovies. Okay, I make something special. I can tell you, just taste the Schiacciate, his home-made warm bread and also with anchovies, because Luca knows. And you know, if you know you know! Thanks you Luca, you colors Citta della Pieve in a real special way. The best cheese, wine, olive oil, meats & many more specials. Most organic and most zero km, just awesome.

Wide choice of appetizers, first and second courses both meat and fish based. I present some to you in photos. Truly exceptional fried fish. From the parking lot you can admire an enchanting landscape. The restaurant is located just outside the town. Perhaps the prices are a little higher than average but it is worth it. The Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collection Burri is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. It showcases the complete collection of works by Alberto Burri, a renowned abstract painter and sculptor known for his sacks series. The museum is located in a prestigious renaissance townhouse and features over 130 works from 1948 to 1989, personally curated by the artist himself.
Wonderful museum, perfectly curated and totally immersive into Burri art
Federico R — Google review
I went out of politeness, I admit, and expected to be rather bored. Instead I found myself astonished and moved by the power of Burri's work and the layout of this gallery. I'm happy to say I was completely wrong and have now become a fan. If you are open to twentieth-century art, this, and the Seccatoio a walk away (which houses Burri's more monumental works as well as his smaller-scale graphic art and amultimedia centre with ex ellent videos), are must-sees - a wonderful complement (and in many ways an homage) to the Piero della Francesca of San Sepolcro.

The Torre Civica, a striking symbol of the city, dates back to the 13th century and is also known as the Bishop's Tower due to its proximity to the Bishop's Palace. This square-shaped tower boasts an impressive facade adorned with various coats of arms. Originally featuring a beautiful fresco of the Madonna and Child from the 15th century, it has sadly succumbed to weathering over time; however, a fragment can still be admired at the Municipal Art Gallery.

In 1397 a clock was added. From the top you would enjoy a splendid panorama of the Tiber Valley, but it cannot currently be visited due to ongoing works. The Municipal Art Gallery of Palazzo Vitelli Alla Cannoniera is a must-see attraction in Citta di Castello, surrounded by 16th-century walls and elegant Renaissance architecture. The gallery is housed in the exquisite Palazzo Vitelli alla Cannoniera, built in 1521 for the Vitelli family. This Florentine-style palace was restored and donated to the town as the Pinacoteca Comunale, now known as the Municipal Gallery.
Absolutely to see. Not just the outside, but especially the inside. One of the master piece of the town offering a great collection of paintings and history! Negative side: the open time is too short. It should be open more hours and straight.

The Ducal Palace, also known as Palazzo della Corgna, is a significant architectural gem commissioned in 1560. The interior boasts lavish frescoes by renowned artists depicting mythology and military exploits. Visitors can explore the walls surrounding the palace for stunning panoramic views of Lake Trasimeno. Additionally, it serves as an important exhibition area and museum within Castiglione del Lago, offering a captivating experience for history and art enthusiasts alike.
(Translated by Google) Visiting this palace, you have the opportunity to admire not only the interiors, whose rooms are frescoed in Mannerist style on the upper ceilings, using mythological themes, but also nature in its varied manifestations, represented by the sky, the water, and the beauty that surrounds them. From a door of the palace, in fact, you are suddenly catapulted into another world, consisting of a fortified fortress. Walking along its narrow and narrow walkway, you reach the keeps, where you can admire the expanse of serene Trasimeno, a lake basin that instills joy and tranquility. Everything you see suggests the power, pomp, and splendour of the Della Corgna family, who in the 16th century called upon Vignola and Alessi to build this splendid palace.

La Prosciutteria in Perugia is a distinctive establishment known for its oversized charcuterie platters. What sets this place apart is their personalized service, where guests can specify the number of people and choose from small, large, or gourmet boards. These boards are thoughtfully arranged with a variety of cheese, meat, fruit, veggies, toasts, and more. Additionally, they offer sandwich and salad options.
Nice related setting. Great selection of cold cuts, sandwiches and even a "real" salad. They custom made a sandwich for our 7 year old. Try their craft 🍺

Waiter was very very welcoming. The menu is entirely in Italian so she explained it all to us in English and made recommendations. Good place to take a break from sight seeing and have a few aperol spritzes. Taking stars off because the food itself was not remarkable. The porchetta was very dry. Crowdy place, but a must if in Perugia! The charcuterie plates are spectacular and come with lots of different products. We had the "gourmet plate" for two persons and it was more than enough for dinner. We were also provided with some explanations about the different components on the plate.

What can I say. We saw this place on Stanley Tucci. We said we will have to go there. And it certainly didn't disappoint. The food was out of this world and the service outstanding. Thank you for making this such a memorable place xxx

Even if it's a franchise, it's definitely a spot which is worth a stop while in visiting Perugia center. It's lively, dynamic, young typical and rustic. You can have either cold cuts of cheese or different type of carpaccio or a special sandwich you can elaborate with your favorite ingredients. They also serve warm dishes like tagliatta , pasta, lasagne etc.... We got a board of cheese, cold cuts and grilled vegetables for two. Each was abundant, enough for a lunch ( 20 euros, 10 each ). It was a bit cold inside and the house wine not the best.

It looked really cute on the outside and then when I entered I wanted to buy everything, but I only ended up buying a cheap but delicious ice cream. The pastry was amazing, the design was the best thing I ever saw and the workers were super kind. I also drank a coffee which was like adding a cherry on top. Overall, you don't want to miss out this place!

Simply the best, very welcoming staff, delicious ice-cream and sorbet. A little more expensive than the usual place, but that is the usual Orvieto price tag. Our toddler was delighted with the Strawberry but you have to try the Creme Brulé one of the best new ice cream flavours I've ever tried! Cones are nice and crunchy and fresh too.

Their ice cream is excellent: creamy texture and rich flavor. What is even better is their cone - perfect match with their ice cream. Friendly and fast service. I recommend!

My favorite ice cream in the world. Their sorbets are crazy good. Made with real fruit and not too sweet.

The pistacchio I got at the original location in front of the Duomo 25 years ago was a transformative experience. Went there recently with my husband and children and it was exactly as I remembered! One of the best ice creams in Italy - and we have tried tons! Go to the location on the street not the one in front of the Duomo. Spectacular!

Really good! We loved especially Cuba rhum and the coffee one!

Went back for another cone less then two hours later it was just that good! Super friendly lady working, happily translated any flavours we needed help with. Everything we tried was extremely flavourful and natural and there was delicious unique flavours as well as all the usual. 2.50 for a small cone with 3 flavours of creamy deliciousness, what’s not to love?

Bar
Nestled in the charming town of Citta della Pieve, Antica Caffetteria Matucci is a delightful bar, bakery, and restaurant that beckons both locals and visitors alike. This inviting spot offers an array of mouthwatering appetizers, aromatic coffee, refreshing teas, delectable cakes, and fresh salads.
Great place with more locals than tourists. Don’t tell anyone, but this place is great, with a menu that emphasises quality, rather than quantity of choice. Every dish our group had was on point.

Amazing appetizers experience!!! Beautiful place with beautiful people. We took some spritz and cocktail and ordered some food and the waiters brought us this huge "tagliere" with all good stuff, salami ,pasta ,fruits ,bread , what can I say: a must to do while in Città della Pieve! Thank you guys for the unbelievable evening!!!

Gelato is the best quality in town by far!!

Joining the cavalcade of reviewers who enjoyed a delicious tagliere (meats, cheeses, fruit, valerianella) and foccaccia with a delightful glass of Vermentino while sitting outdoors on a glorious Saturday in spring - la vita è veramente bella! Our waiter was attentive and friendly and accommodating. By contrast, his sous-server brought rudeness to a new level. She virtually threw the sleeves containing the silver onto the table, accepted payment without a word or so much as a thank you. Not remotely engaging or welcoming. I’d have fired her on the spot!

Lovely coffee and tea shop, with beautiful cakes and sweets.

One of the best place to eat a proper Hamburger in Città della Pieve, Pizza is awesome and the service is really professional. Homemade pasta and a great beer's choice makes this place really complete. Congrats!
Lafresia — Google review
I was a little bit skeptical about this place due to the variety of the menu, but I was happily surprised. Good ambiance, good dishes and good beer. Waitress was a little bit rushed to get the order, maybe because it was late at night.
