Palazzo della Corgna is a stunning historical palace that stands proudly in front of the main cathedral, showcasing the architectural brilliance of Perugian architect Galeazzo Alessi. This magnificent structure, which integrates ancient medieval buildings, serves as a vibrant venue for cultural events and exhibitions. Each year during Christmas, visitors can enjoy the enchanting Nativity Scenes displayed in its basement. While exploring this remarkable site, guests may catch glimpses of beautifully adorned ceilings and discover a natural history museum within its walls.
(Translated by Google) Location visited on the occasion of the Perugino exhibition for the 50th anniversary of his death. Unfortunately I have seen little of the building because the rooms are set up to allow for exhibitions, but you can glimpse the ceilings and I think there is also a library, as well as other public offices. The exhibition venue is one of the 3 that you can see by purchasing the ticket (€12). In addition to this location you can also visit the Civic-Diocesan Museum of Santa Maria dei Servi, where the painting of the Deposition from the Cross was reconstructed, and the oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi. (You can find my reviews of both places). Enjoy your visit. (Translated by Google) Very secluded church outside the Orvieto tourist circuit. It has very ancient origins, although the current architectural structure appears, in the eyes of today's observer, in line with modern building developments. Vespignani carried out the reorganization of the church in the nineteenth century and what we see today both from the outside and the inside is the work of his architectural genius. The style is neoclassical, a result that derives from the ancient orders implemented through a modern revisitation. The white color of the interior permeates the entire structure. Inside, a beautiful wooden crucifix and a magnificent fifteenth-century Madonna with child stand out. (Translated by Google) The first construction of the church, in Gothic style, dates back to 1259, on the initiative of the Mendicant Order of the Servants of Mary, born in 1233 in Florence. In 1265 the Servites, in view of the construction of the convent, purchased houses and land in the territory of the parish then called San Martino, where there were five small churches now disappeared and countless homes of farmers and artisans, whose remains can still be seen today. interesting typologies. The original wall structure of the Church, of which the external side walls with exposed tuff are visible, has suffered numerous collapses over the centuries, until its reconstruction in neoclassical forms in the second half of the nineteenth century, based on a project developed by the architect Virgilio Vespignani. The white two-storey facade presents, on the sides of the gabled portal, two deep niches which create chiaroscuro effects. Between 1270 and 1320, the church was adorned with important works: the Madonna enthroned with Child by Coppo di Marcovaldo, a detached fresco now preserved in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, and the polyptych on panel by Simone Martini, depicting the Madonna and Child, to whom she is offering a flower, with St. Catherine and St. John the Baptist, St. Mary Magdalene and St. Paul. At the beginning of the 16th century, Luca Signorelli, while he was painting the Chapel of San Brizio in the Cathedral, created on the walls a band of tondos depicting on one side some exemplary friars venerated by the Servite Order, and on the other the popes resident in Orvieto over the centuries precedents; the last painted pontiff seems to be Alexander VI, who died in 1503. In 1616 the main altar was demolished and replaced by an altar made of Bagnoregio stone. In the same century, five altars were built on the walls of the church, in honor of the blessed and friars of the Servite Order who had held important roles during the settlement of the community in Orvieto. Among these is the 1682 altar dedicated to the Blessed Giuliana Falconieri of Florence, spiritual guide of the lay members of the Order, depicted in the 18th century in a canvas by Pietro Castellucci in which the outline of the Church of the Servi and the spiers of the Cathedral of Orvieto; near the officiating priest is the blessed Tommaso da Orvieto, holding the traditional twig of leaves and fresh figs: his relics were exhumed and placed under the main altar of the church while, in the same period, the painter Pietro Bacci painted on the walls ten medallions representing the life and miracles performed by the saint. After 1860, following the suppression of the religious corporations, the church became a stable for the horses of the border guards who resided in the convent, until in 1870 it was put up for sale and purchased at auction by the parish priest Father Francesco Riscossa. Work then resumed, to give a symmetrical order to the whole, reducing the altars from ten to seven. The renovated church has three naves, with eight large chapels on the sides, connected to each other by a corridor, which leads to the tribune, an ancient choir adapted into a sacristy, near which you can see a mullioned window, the only evidence of the original Gothic building. Two small chapels were built near the internal wall of the facade, closed by wrought iron gates with inscriptions commemorating its renovation and consecration in 1875. Damaged by the 1997 earthquake and closed for safety reasons, it was consolidated and reopened to the public on Christmas night 1998.

Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli is a vast 16th-century church located about 4km beneath Assisi. It houses the Porziuncola chapel, where St Francis started the Franciscan movement. The nearby Cappella del Transito marks the site of St Francis's death. The basilica also features Michelangelo's Cloister, which displays over 400 works of art including sculptures and reliefs.
Very beautiful and inspiring. The exterior is undergoing renovations, but interior restorations had recently been completed, and the results are stunning. No photographs are allowed inside, so put away the phone and soak in the art and architecture. Catholics will want to stop into the small shrine dedicated to St. Francis (it marks where he died). Also do not miss the beautiful adoration chapel off to the left of the central altar. Reverent and serene.

What a beautiful church. Most special because of the portinocula - St Francis’ special little church. Incredible works of art- especially one of Francis receiving the stigmata. They also have confession booths with multiple languages, with very caring and open priests ready to hear and help you draw close to God. Francis’ place of death and his rose garden as well. Wonderful masses offered. A great gift shop. I wish I had bought more Tau necklaces while I was there to give to others. Also the bookstore is awesome. So many great Franciscan themes and authors.

A very nice basilica in Assisi, probably often overlooked because people flock up to the hilltop to the town and the more famous basilica and other attractions. This is on the other side of the main train station of Assisi. It’s actually walkable distance from the train station. There is a nice museum, rose garden and gift shop in side as well. The piazza Della Porziuncola in front of the basilica is quite large and nice to walk around and take in the beauty of this place.

Castles
Rocca Paolina is a historic fortress in Perugia, Italy, built in the mid-16th century by Pope Paul III. It was constructed as a demonstration of power and to strengthen the city's defensive walls after the Vatican forces occupied Perugia. The fortress stands as a symbol of papal authority and remained under Vatican control until 1860. Today, Rocca Paolina serves as a cultural hub with an exhibition about the city's history.
A most interesting building that is worth a couple of hours. The castle itself contains Etruscan, Roman and Renaissance elements. I missed the slot for the English tour guide. Shame, I think I missed out on a lot of detail. Also, it's a cool place on a sweltering hot day.

Nothing much happening in there. And its really hard to find the entrance. We ended up walking around outside to the bottom of it, yet there was a nice escalator we missed. Unique and spooky underground mini town, well, smaller than that but it has that feel.

It is a page in the history of Perugia which bears witness to a vanished architectural structure; all that remains are those buildings which were transformed into the basement of the hated Rocca and which today can be visited and explored. The Rocca has a very particular charm, it feels like walking in an ancient medieval street but indoors. Nice sensations.

La Scarzuola is a restored 16th-century monastery and architectural complex that offers guided tours by reservation. The site features eccentric architecture, theaters, and temples arranged along a hilly path, creating a surreal atmosphere. Originally a Franciscan abbey built by Saint Francis in 1218, the property was purchased by architect Tomaso Buzzi in 1958. Buzzi transformed it into his ideal city with seven theaters, blending historical styles and symbols in his designs.
A truly unique experience. Amazing art installation used for commercials, product launches, and movies. The 'road' to get there is a bit rough but it's worth the trip!

Amazing place. A convent/church that has been revived by a genius architect and artist who built magnificent and creative theaters behind it. Unique. Wherever you look, you'll see another work of art. Entrance only on weekends by pre reservation. The tour (mandatory) is a bit too long, and *you can't* leave before it ends...
David N — Google review
PLEASE AVOID! Leaving one star because I can’t leave no stars. I don’t even know where to begin. We arrived after 11am on a Saturday morning (hadn’t checked the website as I always check opening times on google maps, perhaps my fault), and were rushed in by somebody standing at the gate to the property. Without explaining much, he told us it was 10€ per person, and we paid in cash. He locked the gate and told us to follow him. We arrived to an amazing amphitheater where there were about 100 people, half of them listening to an older guy speaking very loudly in Italian. It was no problem we didn’t understand half of it, at least we would get a tour of the place, or so we thought. He rambled for at least 45 min… not really sure if that was supposed to be a tour or what, but we decided we were not willing to spend the next hour listening to a mad man talking about the universe in the intense heat, without seeing any of the actual place! Worst 10€ spent, ever. Still, we thought we’d cut our losses and asked the man who we paid to let us in, to let us out. No big deal right? He told us to wait 5 min, which we did. After that, we asked again if we could leave. Very very quickly he got quite defensive, and said (not jokingly) he “might not let us out at all”. EXCUSE ME, WHAT? I’ve never ever experienced such awful customer care/experience. We can laugh about it now but panic was starting to set it, honestly. I was so ready to call the police when he started walking towards the exit. We followed him and thank god! What an absolute nightmare. We were finally free. I’m sure the place is amazing, and I would have loved to see more of it, but it’s really not worth dealing with such tw***. Spend your money somewhere else. In a pizza, a glass of wine, an aperol spritz or anywhere else where you’ll feel you’re actually treated with respect. PLEASE AVOID!!
Silvia S — Google review
The place is beautiful and for sure culturally and historically fascinating, but as a person with limited understanding of Italian, I felt like I was a prisoner of the tour guides who refused to let us leave after an hour of listening to an abstract monologue full of insults and inside jokes that no one found funny. In the end we convinced someone to open the door for us, but were denied the honor of seeing medieval frescoes, which felt a lot like a vendetta for our lack of appreciation for the tour. The road leading to the place is definitely only fit for 4x4 cars. If you have one, speak Italian and also have 10€, 2 hours and a lot of patience then I guess it can be worth it. Really curious to know what guardia di finanza would say about the fact there is cash only & no receipts policy.
Joanna R — Google review
The architect Tomaso Buzzi is the creative mind who brought together historical styles, symbols, and quotes from the past in his designs for this aritecture park. Built on the ex-property of a Franciscan monestary. Our guide, the nephew of Buzzi, opened the visit by noting: "St. Francis was the first who used drugs" as a way to think about the way people use drugs today to change their perception of the world. The tour is in italian but there is someone on hand to help with English sums on the side. Group visit is big (c100 people) but the guide uses a speaker-microphone so it was easy to hear. Also, big open spaces and much freedom to walk around and take photos. It seemed to me many people in my group did not read about the site in advance OR were not open-minded enough to appreciate the site and the guide. I highly recommend the site for people who want to have an experience outside the norm of guided visits to art-gardens in Italy. Be sure to rsvp weeks in advance.

Incredible history of architecture and sculpture! Must visit but call and book in advance as they often don't take bookings/no last minute entries! 10euro per person

The Cathedral of San Rufino is a 13th-century church located in Assisi, Italy. It is divided into two main churches, the Lower and Upper basilicas. The interior features ornate friezes, statues, and numerous chapels such as those dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene and St. Louis of Toulouse. The cathedral has an unmistakable Romanesque character with modern features added during the 16th century.
Beautiful Cathedral. Very quiet and cool. It has glass floor panel where you can see down to the ancient Roman tunnels.

The Cathedral of San Rufino is dedicated to Assisi’s first bishop and patron saint, Rufinus, whose remains are kept in the crypt beneath the church, which you can see for a small fee. The current Romanesque structure dates to the 12th century and is notable for its well-preserved facade with carved lions, symbols, and biblical scenes. The interior has been modified over the centuries, blending medieval and later Baroque elements. The cathedral is also historically significant as the site where St. Francis and St. Clare were both baptized.

When exploring the historic city of Perugia, a visit to the Etruscan Well is an absolute must. This remarkable feat of engineering dates back to the three centuries before Christ and plunges an impressive 37 meters underground, showcasing the advanced hydraulic expertise of the Etruscans. The well was crucial for providing potable water during times when access was scarce, highlighting its significance in ancient urban life.
Short visit, but it was very nice well to see and no other visitors at that time. A short video explains the history of the well. Recommended to visit.

Since Perugia was almost Etruscian capital (one of the most important cities anyway) it is nice to see something remains from period. There is room for 10 people inside so if u go in after a bus tour, come back later😂😂. U get a nice cold place during summer. Before u go in there is a waiting room where u can see a documentary about it. They used 2 8 tons blocks on top of well. Great engineering for 3rd century BC and they used the well for 2000 years. When inside u can still see the water dripping down the walls.

the place is huge for the price of the ticket (reduced: 4€). while we were visiting there were some archeologists working and it was very interesting to watch them work (we asked in advance if we could take a peek!). it's all an open space so it's best to visit on a sunny day. it was fun to climb over the remains of a roman city and it was overall an interesting experience. it's unfortunately not wheelchair accessible as it's mainly on old roman roads and i believe they're impossible to go over them comfortably with wheels.

Pictoresque ruins, not many tourists, especially in the morning. However, the tables present dry facts and English translation is pretty poor. You can buy online, but the website is not very good, so we waited for the staff to arrive.

Great initiative yesterday they collaborated with Vega Sky Watching to observe the night sky during the Perseids shower and also had a cool "theater" of the cosmos inside the newly dig area of the ancient Roman amphitheater along with an interesting Yoga sounds performance that emulates the sounds of the cosmos at the nearby ancient complex. Moreover they're finally receiving funds for additional digging an warehouse/museum buildings so there will be a lot more to see starting this autumn. The excellent tour guide who is also one of the archeologists there, showed real excitement and she was very through with the details of course. Keep doing what you're doing and promote the tourism even more, the visit is well deserved.

The Museum was renewed recently in a very effective way. The main attraction is, of course, the room with the masterpiece by Piero della Francesca, where the lights are positioned perfectly. I went out of politeness, I admit, and expected to be rather bored. Instead I found myself astonished and moved by the power of Burri's work and the layout of this gallery. If you are open to twentieth-century art, this, and the Seccatoio a walk away (which houses Burri's more monumental works as well as his smaller-scale graphic art and amultimedia centre with ex ellent videos), are must-sees - a wonderful complement (and in many ways an homage) to the Piero della Francesca of San Sepolcro.

Amazing visit even though there are only two rooms. However the experience was somewhat spoilt by a surly woman in the ticket office who obviously smokes in her ticket booth, the resulting stink detracts from what should be a sublime experience.

Only small, about 2 large rooms in all, but interesting. The whole place has been tastefully renovated. The ceiling paintings are a marvel. The wall murals too. Interesting collection of old coins, weights & measures. Interpretation boards in all the major languages are a bonus. €6 admission. €7 for a combined ticket with the Merchants Hall. An unusual but historically relevant museum, given the importance of guilds and exchanges in the Middle Ages.

The front door is so discreet on the main shopping drag that I missed it twice, and even then I didn't know if it is open at all. There is only one old gentleman manning the ticket booth and he was very helpful with brochures and other information about the place. The entire thing is small, can be done within 30 min, but the rich frescoes by Perugino and others are wonderful things to marvel at for a long time. And most of the time I had it to myself. There is also a collection of weight standards from 500 years ago that are very unique.

Enrico B — Google review
Built between 1452 and 1457 within the new wing of the Palazzo dei Priori, it was the headquarters of the guild of money changers. From the Hall of the Legists, with a tribunal on the back wall and wooden side stalls carved and inlaid by Gian Pietro Zuccari, there is access to the Audience Hall, used for meetings and reception of the public. Half of the right wall is occupied by the tribunal and counters made by Domenico Tasso, while the walls house a cycle of frescoes made by Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, between 1498 and 1500. The works start from the vault with allegorical figures of the planets: the Moon, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter and Venus are depicted in the seven canopy sections, and in the centre is Apollo, in a rich grotesque decoration, where decorative and monstrous figures chase each other.
Rider F — Google review

Then you can watch a short movie (in Italian & English) explaining about its history, then telling about the painting that exist in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. (Translated by Google) It's a pretty disappointing museum. A very pleasant and well-kept container, the sixteenth-century Palazzo del Marzocco, corresponds to a modest content, not up to expectations. Of the battle of Anghiari there are only a few illustrative panels and a model of the deployments, which are not of high quality. The sector dedicated to weapons is very sparse and the weapons date back to centuries after the battle. Sure, you can read the fascinating story of the lost wall painting that Leonardo created for the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, but frankly you can read it anywhere. Virtual reconstructions just need to be made available and you can view them more comfortably at home. There are some paintings, but always without any connection with the battle, except a seventeenth-century copy of part of Leonardo's lost work and little else. The battle of Anghiari fought in 1440 between the Milanese troops of the Viscontis and the coalition led by the Republic of Florence deserves the presence of real and not virtual objects.

The Municipal Art Gallery of Palazzo Vitelli Alla Cannoniera is a must-see attraction in Citta di Castello, surrounded by 16th-century walls and elegant Renaissance architecture. The gallery is housed in the exquisite Palazzo Vitelli alla Cannoniera, built in 1521 for the Vitelli family. This Florentine-style palace was restored and donated to the town as the Pinacoteca Comunale, now known as the Municipal Gallery.
Absolutely to see. Not just the outside, but especially the inside. One of the master piece of the town offering a great collection of paintings and history! Negative side: the open time is too short. It should be open more hours and straight.

The Wine Museum is a hidden gem meticulously presented with amazing historical background and clear exhibits in both Italian and English. It contains several rooms, each carefully explained via free audio guides or English booklets. The museum showcases pottery, old tools, books, wine jars, barrels, and stories about the pharmaceutical use of wines. Visitors can also enjoy an included glass of wine in the neighboring restaurant. Additionally, there's an option for a combiticket to visit the Olive Oil Museum as well.
Great experience, not only for geek wine lovers. Lots of interesting artefacks, place to "must visit" in Torgiano
Slawek K — Google review
The Museo is rich but there is no connection with people and the place is boring without a documentary or interaction with people. The Museo has really interesting old tools and is a back up for the old life of people there.

This is a wonderful museum, a hidden gem! It is meticulously presented with amazing historical background, accurate and clear exhibits, presented in both Italian and English. It's absolutely worth the visit. It contains several rooms, each one carefully explained via free audio and also text. I am not a "wine person" and so I didn't know what to expect (perhaps boring history of grapes, too technical wine making information...??) But it was a wonderful surprise to learn about the historical background of the wine making from 5000 years ago! Perfectly curated! Don't miss it!
O — Google review
Unexpectedly very interesting. Well done displays. Only 5 euro, which included a nice wine tasting afterward.
Eric H — Google review
To make the most of this you need to take an audio guide or read the English booklets in each room as the display boards are only written in Italian. Interesting if you like pottery, old tools and books, but no information about wine itself. Best part was the included glass of wine in the neighbouring restaurant where we also ate. Ticket enables you to enter oil museum as well, but we didn't as we ran out of time.
Karen B — Google review
I was expecting more. But the price was not high and if the audioguide is quite nice.
Daniel G — Google review
Well worth it. More artifacts and historic documents than you could imagine telling you the entire history of wine in facinating detail. The 7 Euro ticket also includes the nearby museum of olive oil. Give yourself an hour to 90 minutes. Go early. Like everything here it closes at 1 pm for a couple hours.

Very nice museum with information about the history of wines in general. With wine jars, barrels, stories about old pharmaceutical use of wines. Nestled within the historic walls of Citta di Castello, the Cathedral of St. Florido and Amanzio stands as a testament to 11th-century architecture and artistry. Surrounded by elegant Renaissance buildings and charming courtyards, this cathedral is not just a place of worship but also houses a fascinating museum filled with religious artifacts and statues. The cylindrical bell tower, dating back to Roman times, offers visitors an exhilarating climb for panoramic views over the picturesque town and its stunning landscapes.

Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is located in the Parco dei Monti Rognosi, a natural reserve in the Valtiberina Toscana. The museum, housed in a historic building constructed from medieval tower houses, has been showcasing art and architectural pieces since 1975. Visitors can admire works such as a Nativity by Andrea della Robbia and a wooden sculpture of the Virgin by Jacopo della Quercia.
Well worth a visit..beautiful Renaissance artifacts and buildings to look at and marvel at the wonderful craftsmanship. Lovely town to wander around filled with narrow winding streets. Great places to eat and drink..full of character. Loved it. Recomend spending the day there. Check out some of the beautiful churhes too and see one of the most historic paintings of all..

I have previously lived in Italy and have visited dozens of museums throughout the peninsula; this was by far the worst Italian museum experience I have ever had. Better artifacts can be viewed in any antique Italian church for free, and the cold, unwelcoming, and condescending staff seem to try their best to destroy whatever atmospheric charm this small, bush-league exhibition could possess. Museo di Palazzo Taglieschi is a thoroughly mediocre museum paired with a thoroughly unfriendly staff. Don’t waste your time or money.
Caleb G — Google review
This would be a nice museum, however the staff hovers over you as if waiting for you to break or touch something. Our family went through - my husband and four children ages 13 to 22. My 22 year old son ( an honors history major - who studied a year in Viterbo) was told he was not allowed to go ahead of us and had to stay with us. My son has been in museums all over Italy much larger and grander than this museum and was never treated this rudely. It was ridiculous. Hard to enjoy the art and history while someone looks over your shoulder and directs you to the next room. She even opened the door to let us exit.

(Translated by Google) Visited with everything that the Borgo contains... which is a lot. The Palace, which we see today, is the Renaissance result of an incorporation of previously existing tower houses and older structures and was the home of the Taglieschi family. Only this has already been "discovered" (I guarantee because it is a "choppy" route in a suggestive ups and downs) in the visit to the State Museum which collects the testimonies of the territory ranging from "material" coming from abandoned churches and not to collections such as those of weapons. For those who are lucky enough to happen upon "themed" visits there is the possibility of accessing the loggia from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the village but... it didn't happen to me... alas. It is possible to purchase a single ticket for entry to the Battle Museum. Remember that you enter on the hour (for example, I entered at 11:00) because you are accompanied on the visit. Once out I recommend climbing the stairs of Via della Torre... you can observe photographic glimpses at every step.

(Translated by Google) To climb the bell tower you need a ticket costing €4, which can be purchased in a place next to the cathedral (absolutely worth visiting because it is spectacular). It is accessed via a metal gate and a wooden door to be opened with keys that are provided to you at the ticket office in exchange for a document. The climb is quite short (in 5 minutes you reach the top), but there are some points with narrow and slightly high steps, so you have to be very careful. The first location of the Cathedral Museum consisted of only two rooms (approx. 60 m2), which were accessed from the sacristy of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Florido and Amanzio: in one of them sacred vestments were displayed, in the other they were gathered silverware and paintings. On 23 March 1991, an enlarged and renovated headquarters was inaugurated, consisting of seven rooms (approx. 430 m2), distributed over two floors, some of which were part of the old sacristies of the Cathedral, from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and others locals were instead from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.

How is it possible to see a Cathedral, the most important church in the country, left open without even a person in charge checking it. What I liked. The ceiling struck me, a beautiful blue, I think it might be lapis lazuli. The dome inside is very beautiful, with very beautiful designs. The crypt is also interesting and large. I think the façade has been remodeled very recently, but above you can still see how it should have been in the beginning. I have to say that I'm a little confused at the main entrance, I don't really understand if it's the one next to the Palazzo dei Priori, or the one that leads to the Duomo Museum. A small museum has been set up inside the bishop's palace, offering a collection of classical music. The exhibition is not extensive but regularly updated and modified based on various themes. Visitors are impressed by the informative and informal way in which the curly-haired girl at the ticket office provides interesting insights and answers curiosity. Overall, it is worth visiting this museum, which offers an enriching experience for art enthusiasts.

(Translated by Google) Collection of sculpted faces of more or less famous figures in music, entertainment and politics placed without any order and without labels but with numbers to identify on a sheet of paper that can be taken at the entrance. The sculptures are appreciable but the exhibition could have been set up better. The bishop's palace is very beautiful but does not express its value. The only way to follow the exhibition is a screening in an inconspicuous room. It's a shame because with a little everything could have been better looked after and explained to the public.

Observation Decks & Towers
The Round Bell Tower, located near the Cathedral of Saints Florido and Amanzio, is a unique cylindrical structure that has been a part of the city's skyline since the 11th century. Influenced by Byzantine-era architecture from Ravenna, this Romanesque tower stands at 43m/143 ft. and is home to local birdlife. Visitors can climb to the top with a ticket purchase and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Church of Saint Francis, consecrated in 1291, stands as a remarkable testament to the rich history and artistry of Umbria. Nestled near the bustling Piazza Matteotti, this church underwent significant transformation during the Baroque period in the 1700s. Inside, visitors are greeted by the stunning Vitelli Chapel, crafted by renowned artist Giorgio Vasari in the mid-1500s.
(Translated by Google) The Church of San Francesco, built in the 13th century, has subsequently undergone numerous expansions and transformations. The three apses, some mullioned windows and a portal remain of the original structure. The interior, with a single nave with a Latin cross, was transformed in Baroque style in the 18th century, with stuccos and frescoes. The Vitelli Chapel, designed by Giorgio Vasari, hosts his Coronation of the Virgin. On the altar of the Albizzini family, there was the Marriage of the Virgin by Raphael (now replaced by a copy), painted by Raphael, taken away by Napoleon's troops and now preserved in Milan in the Pinacoteca di Brera (a plaque outside the church was placed in memory of the "theft").

The staff was very polite and kind, the wine was delicious as well as the appetizers. My only suggestion, if we are only having 3 wines, for a proper tasting it really should be 3 separate glasses , especially if you’re not rinsing glasses between bottles. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning, my attendant poured my white wine into my red wine glass then when I finished the white whine, she poured the red wine into the already used glass (that had white wine in it). Truly it should be three glasses, not two. Please understand, it was still a great experience! Very small complaint. The honey was superb. Thank you for a great time!

The Ducal Palace, also known as Palazzo della Corgna, is a significant architectural gem commissioned in 1560. The interior boasts lavish frescoes by renowned artists depicting mythology and military exploits. Visitors can explore the walls surrounding the palace for stunning panoramic views of Lake Trasimeno. Additionally, it serves as an important exhibition area and museum within Castiglione del Lago, offering a captivating experience for history and art enthusiasts alike.
(Translated by Google) Visiting this palace, you have the opportunity to admire not only the interiors, whose rooms are frescoed in Mannerist style on the upper ceilings, using mythological themes, but also nature in its varied manifestations, represented by the sky, the water, and the beauty that surrounds them. From a door of the palace, in fact, you are suddenly catapulted into another world, consisting of a fortified fortress. Walking along its narrow and narrow walkway, you reach the keeps, where you can admire the expanse of serene Trasimeno, a lake basin that instills joy and tranquility. Everything you see suggests the power, pomp, and splendour of the Della Corgna family, who in the 16th century called upon Vignola and Alessi to build this splendid palace.
