Coffee shop
Breakfast restaurant
T H Roberts is a popular café in Dolgellau, known for its quirky setting and large menu. The café offers generous breakfast options for both meat-eaters and vegetarians, with the veggie sausages being a standout. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of homemade cakes and beverages, including coffees, smoothies, and milkshakes. The staff are described as wonderful and friendly, adding to the welcoming atmosphere of the café.
What an interesting place to go for a spot of breakfast or lunch. They had a great menu, with little hidden gems, of which I had one, a yummy freshly made beef stew, the cheese scone it came with was fab too. The highlight for me though, was the biscoff cheesecake, this was one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had and I will definitely be going back to try more of their sweet treats as they all looked incredible. The place itself was very quirky and had so much to look at, it even had its own library room.

The vintage vibe is so unique! Friendly staffs and 2 lovely resident dogs! Plentiful seats on both g/f and 1/f. Dog friendly. High quality coffee. I recommend their carrot cake, which I have never tasted anywhere in the UK! 💯

Goodness me. What a delightful place. Amazing choice of delicious homemade cakes. Terrific family roasted coffee. Lovely friendly service. Charming, relaxing setting. And good value too. Definitely coming back for the breakfast. Don't miss it.

Brilliant breakfast spot - we’d been recommended this place by a few people and it did not disappoint! Delicious breakfast, great coffee, and the tiffin was outstanding. Our dog also received lots of fuss and treats.
Becca L — Google review
TH Roberts is a lovely café with a really unique and cosy interior - vintage armchairs and sofas, old stone walls, and tablecloths (yes, tablecloths - something I don't often see in the UK)!! It has the feel of an old community space turned into a welcoming café, full of character and charm. The food hit the spot. Classic breakfast with proper sausages, crispy hash browns, and perfectly cooked eggs. And that Biscoff cheesecake? Ridiculously good. Rich, creamy, and just the right level of indulgent. The portions were generous too. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
Yomal U — Google review
Excellent coffee, cooked breakfast and various sweetie cakes. Had the pleasure of sitting in the snug/library and reading Zog and a Spike Milligan book with my 4 yr old daughter. Was quite perplexed however with the scores on the doors. Staff very friendly
Matt M — Google review
Absolute perfection! Top quality breakfasts and charming interior and staff. Could not resist picking up a couple of delicious tray bakes on the way out. We enjoyed a bakewell and marathon slice on the pewcipice walk and now everything is right with the world!
WeaselBear — Google review
Wonderful quaint cafe with the most friendly staff. Customers are the young and old from nearby towns as well as tourists (like me!). I needed to charge my phone and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. I had an oat milk cappuccino for £3.50 which was lovely and will be back soon with friends, to try the breakfast. Definitely recommend dropping in!

Pub
The Stag Inn, situated in the hidden streets of town, offers a delightful selection of traditional pub cuisine. With a rich history spanning over two centuries, this charming establishment is renowned for its friendly ambiance and serves as an ideal spot for lunch. In August 2023, one can visit on a Wednesday afternoon to enjoy refreshing beverages after leisurely strolls, followed by a return trip on Thursday evening for delectable food and additional drinks.
Great local pub with a really nice offering. It’s conveniently in the centre of the village, the drinks range is great with lots of local ales and spirits. The food menu is the particular highlight - the homemade pizzas made in front of you in the beer garden is excellent and they were really tasty. Service was friendly and quick.
J R — Google review
A much needed stop after walking Cader Idris earlier in the day. We were looking for a local pub with good beer and food and we found it. The Stag had a good selection of Welsh beers and a fridge stacked full of the best craft ales from tropical IPA to stouts. My idea of heaven. The food was good mainly pizza and sides and the quality was there. I suggest getting there early if you plan to eat or book a table. No restriction on the time well behaved kids have to leave, so even better for our family trip away.

Highly recommended for good food, drink and service. The lady behind the bar couldn’t have been more welcoming to us when we visited for food early evening. The beer garden is a lovely place to relax and the pizza is nothing short of excellent. Fantastic atmosphere and lovely staff, couldn’t ask for more.

Great pub, amazing pizzas. Good range of beers. Pizzas are just delicious; cooked to perfection. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Dave H — Google review
We had a lovely experience at the Stag Inn. The pizzas were excellent – proper Italian style with great flavour – and the chicken wings were absolutely delicious too. We hadn’t booked, but the staff were very accommodating and quickly found us a table. They also made sure to let us know about the kitchen closing time, which was much appreciated. A really enjoyable meal and warm service – we’ll definitely be back.

Have been coming to Dolgellau for many years but never been to the Stag until now. Popped in for lunch with our dog and were very impressed with the food. Had a pizza which was great - very thin authentic crust and the Welsh Rarebit was to die for. Will definitely be back on future visits to the area.
Steve W — Google review
What an amazing pub we went to with Wilson and George our two gorgeous dogs. What a lovely place. Staff are super friendly so are the customers. The pub had a very welcoming feeling to it, beds for the boys, treats and even blankets were a nice touch. The food is to die for. The best pizza I have ever had. I have never finished a pizza in my life until tonight. So I had to have a takeaway for my dessert which I am so glad I did. That was lovely as well. All I can say, if you don't visit The Stag Inn you will definitely be missing out. We will definitely be going back. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Great little pub! Really nice upstairs room, the beer garden was a lovely surprise (great to sit out even in October)! Food was really good, and a decent selection of local beers on tap and cans. Best pub of the holiday, hands down

Steak house
British restaurant
English restaurant
The Gatehouse Steakhouse is a charming restaurant in Wales that offers exceptional food and service. Visitors rave about the delicious steaks, with one guest calling it the best they've ever had. The cowboy ribeye is particularly popular, cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The cozy, old-timey decor adds to the overall dining experience. In addition to steaks, the tuna steak and burgers are also highly recommended.
*Former chef and Steak-aholic* Honestly, best steak I've ever had in my whole life. I'm not even saying it. Everything was absolutely delicious. Me and three friends came to Wales for the weekend and one friend recommended this place. I got the 12oz cowboy ribeye medium-rare and it was absolutely amazing. Cooked to perfect, seasoned perfectly and just downright delicious. Service was fantastic and everyone was lovely. The decor of the place was beautiful and cute-old-timey. Fantastic. Can't wait for our next trip here x
Hannah M — Google review
The food was delicious but scored low as the service was really..really slow, and the waitress did come back several times to confirm our order. And please check your bill as we were over charged by £45. The restaurant did resolve the issue.

This has to be the best tuna steak I have ever had! Beautifully presented and very generous portion. Loved our starters too. I highly recommend it also very friendly lovely staff.

Whilst visiting North Wales for a break away and revisiting places I had gone to some 35 years ago as a kid we were looking for somewhere nice to eat and found this delightful place. Having done a very limited amount of research, reading reviews, we decided this was the place for us and to be honest we were not disappointed, the food and service was exceptional and really good value for money. Fabulous meal, compliments to the chefs and the two young ladies serving were an absolute credit to the establishment! Can we also tip our hats in respect to the owner who's answers to some of the "feedbacks" on here are simply brilliant! We need more people like John who tell it like it is!
Jo K — Google review
Reasonable food and price. Really enjoyed my “Death by Chocolate” dessert. Excellent service with cosy indoor and pleasant outdoor seating. Do take note they only accept cash.
Lynette L — Google review
Nice little steakhouse. Staff were friendly but rushed off their feet due to a no show. But they apologised and were easy to call over if needed. Food quality was good, but not excellent but we were all happy when we left. Some large cuts of steak available for sharers or particularly hungry people. We are local now so I'm sure we will be back. At the time of posting they were only accepting cash payment, so check when booking if that is needed. There are banks nearby if an ATM is required.
Mark A — Google review
One of the few restaurants with covered outdoor seating. One way system. Cash only. Waitresses were trying their best they can given how busy it was. Food is good ( but wouldn't rave about it). Wide range of selection in the menu and portion is good. Burger was nice and garlic bread was freshly baked. The churros looks good but I was too full and didn't get the chance to try it

We visited the Gatehouse Steakhouse whilst visiting Dolgellau recently. I am a little aprehensive to leave a poor review after reading the owners attacks of anyone that dares to complain. Our experience of this restaurant was a little mixed and this review is meant to be constructive rather than destructive. We had pre booked a 2 seater table inside the restaurant however, upon arrival we were taken outside in a sort of covered courtyard with a gravel floor. We wouldnt have minded so much had there been some sort of heater as it had been raining all day and was absolutly freezing. We ordered our starters which arrived reasonably quickly without any cutlery. When we requested this from the young waitress she firstly looked at us as though we were joking and when she returned she practically threw them on the table without a word. On the plus side the starters were delicious, Whitebait and a portion of Spring rolls. For our main course obviously we ordered steak believing that this would be the speciallity, Sadly this was not to be. I opted for a Fillet medium rare and my wife the sirloin medium. Whilst the steaks were cooked perfectly the quality and size appeared the same as what you would purchase in Tesco. In a Steakhouse restaurant I would expect better. The biggest disappointment was the fast food quality shoestring fries and the side salad consisting of lettuce with lettuce. Annoyingly, the rude young waitress informed us that there were no steakknifes and no mustard. This prooved to be a lie as 2 minutes later the the table next to us were provided with steakknifes. I requested mustard from the other waitress who brought it over immediatly. When we requested a dessert menu, we were presented by a hand written note on an order pad which seemed very unproffesional. At a final cost of over £80 for two people I would expect better. The restaurant is mainly let down by one or two rude young staff (the rest seemed fine), poor fries and side salad. The kitchen staff certainly know how to cook but the front of house and presentation need to improve to justify the prices.

The restaurant Y Sospan is a great place to visit if you're looking for traditional Welsh cuisine. The breakfast bap is especially good value for money, and the soup and coffee are also very good. The upstairs seating is comfortable and spacious, while the toilet is very clean. Overall, it's an amazing restaurant with friendly staff that offers great food at reasonable prices.
Very lovely to be able to sit outside on a hot evening - you could be in Europe! The food was really good, everyone at the table was happy with their meal although we did all agree it was *slightly* on the pricy side. My steak was cooked exactly how it to be (not always guaranteed in some places) and the sauce was delicious - very savoury and moreish. Chips were crispy and salty. The service was on the slower side because they were so busy but the waitress who served us was very nice and helpful. The wine selection Was very good too. Those of us who had dessert really enjoyed. I’d definitely come back here again.

My partner and I came here for dinner and it was such a lovely spot. From the ambience, to the history of the building and of course, the delicious food! The staff were so friendly and welcoming from the second we stepped foot through the door. The meat from the lamb shank just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth and the chocolate fondant was baked to perfection! Would highly recommend this place to anyone in the Dolgellau area!

Lovely selection of food, staff very welcoming, and downstairs area had a lovely atmosphere. We all enjoyed our choice of meal. We're impressed with how dog friendly it was too- a big plus when on a family holiday with our dog.

This place makes it worth the 16min drive from Barmouth ! I have never had a lamb shank like it … when in Wales …..Just come here ! You won’t be disappointed. Service was fantastic too . Price looks tad expensive but for the meal you receive and service it’s really not at all . Will be visiting again ! Doggy friendly too but must say it’s got to be torcher if ya senses are 2000x humans lol woof woof over n out )
Reggy C — Google review
Excellent wine menu and all local gins and beers clearly marked, as well as vegan options which were not extensive but were very good and clearly prepared with care. The lamb shank was a particular hit. Side salad was very small but the lettuce and tomato were very tasty. Very friendly, welcoming and efficient service. Dog friendly and a warm vibe for all.
HT W — Google review
The service from the man working this afternoon let's this place down. No customer service skills, places food down without saying anything, abrupt, no smiles. When ordering i was told the meals would be ready at different times due to one coming from upstairs with the chef and the other downstairs from the server. When asked if they could bring them out together it was not possible, perhaps this system should be looked at as customers want to eat together at the same time. When the meal came it was nice, however a piece of plastic was in there. Had cakes to takeaway and still service was poor and unfriendly again.
Claire — Google review
A came in as a solo traveller seeking a lovely welsh breakfast. This was delivered. Full Welsh Breakfast £10. Very generous portion size but clearly all fresh with proper locally sourced ingredients. The staff were very friendly and nice. This coupled with the clientel created a really wonderful homely vibe. This place is clearly more than a cafe. Its a meeting place for the people of Dolgellau. And it was lovely to be a part of that for a morning. Cant wait to come back one day

Walking Tours
Located in Snowdonia, Precipice Walk is a classic short walk that offers stunning views of the Mawddach estuary and Cader Idris. It's described as family-friendly with mostly level ground, but caution is advised due to narrow and rocky paths near steep drops. The walk provides unrivaled views and is considered one of the most beautiful walks in the area. The trail can be easily missed, but it's worth finding for its spectacular scenery.
Nice walk, easy for normal fitness levels. Went with 2 and 4 year old ones. Had to hold their hands for a third of the walk because it is going down too steep on one side. But if dry, no problem at all. They enjoyed it. No problem with jogging shoes, but take hiking shoes or boots when wet.

A nice 1,5 Hike around the mountain and lake. Plenty of nice viewing points over the area. A nice located bench on top with a fantastic view to rest and have a snack and drink. Lots of sheep on the track as well as near to it. Lovely all together.

Favourite walk. I've done it in Dec 2024 - 2 months before open heart surgery and Aug 2025 6 months post op in 26° heat and loved both. Takes about 1.5hrs, amazing and varied views (we go clockwise). No strenuous acsent or decsents. Free parking and toilets. Enjoy!

Stunning walk, well marked and not too taxing. We did it in trainers without any bother. It made a nice stop on the way home from Barmouth area to the Midlands. We had the Labrador who enjoyed a mix of on and off the lead walking
Laura K — Google review
Today, on 09/08/2025, I was at Llyn Cynwch in Snowdonia for the Precipice Walk, but due to missing signage, I only managed a beautiful short stroll around the lake. Still enjoyed it! Noticed the low water level – the level has clearly dropped, a sign of the ongoing drought in Wales. The exposed shores and water level gauges show how urgently rain is needed. Also spotted a PodPoint EV charging point at the parking area that isn’t listed in the app, but it seemed fully operational and ready to use. Unfortunately, I discovered several litter like dog poop bags along the path – let’s respect nature!

Did this trail today and enjoyed it, nice views from the top and a relatively flat route with some challenging terrain. Would recommend carrying on instead of turning right and going along the lake first and doing the route 'in reverse' to avoid the steep incline.

Penygader, a 2,930-ft. summit of Cadair Idris, is a favorite among hikers for its stunning views of lakes and valleys. The area around the mountain offers various attractions such as the beautiful Mawddach Estuary leading to Dolgellau and the opportunity for mountain biking in Coed-y-Brenin.
Easter Sunday Walk. Great fun with families and dogs. Breathtaking views Highly recommended for beginners as first climb to start the hunger for more.

Great place to visit. Different walks available. We went to the summit which was a lengthy and challenging walk. We did make it on quite a hot day, but took several hours up and down the same route. Amazing to do and kits to see.
Trudi G — Google review
Absolutely enjoyed this hike! Peaceful, challenging, with some of the best views and plenty of sheep. The water from the lake is super clean, and I even went for a swim. On top of that, the parking is cheap at just £3 for 4 hours. Would recommend it to anyone, 5/5 stars. Ps: the water is cold and hiking path becomes a lot more challenging after you reach the lake. Summit is the second peak to the right. Bring plenty of drinks and remember to leave nature better than you found it!
Doritos — Google review
We, as a family of four, did the hardest route and it was so worth the burn. So pretty and the perfect temperature. The hardest part of the hike was definitely the first little bit through the woods but once you get up the first mountain, it’s really easy. We went into a little shelter for lunch and met some nice people and surprisingly, a mama sheep came in and hung out with us! A few minutes later her baby sheep poked its head in. So cute!! It took us about 5 hours to do along with little breaks we took every once in a while. The walk down was a bit hard on the knees and some areas are made of gravel so be careful there as they do roll out from underneath your feet. Overall a very fun hike!!
Anastasia C — Google review
Maybe the best walk in Wales,so much better than Snowdon. The views are spectacular, the lakes christel clear and there are less people. Plus there are loads of side walks to other peaks for the adventurous. Its a steep climb with loose shale in some places so wear solid footwear. You can do the circuit in 4 hours if you really move and don't stop to enjoy the views but for most people its about 5 hours in good weather. Allow 6 if you are not good at climbs or want to do some side walks.
Rennie S — Google review
Fabulous walk and didn't want to come back the same way. I decided on the circular but extended it to walk down onto the Mach Loop and see some fighter jets. This was a very steep and sketchy descent. Used the bridleway adjacent to the road to get back to the car park. You do have to walk the last 200mtrs on the busy road though. Well worth the extra effort.
Andy — Google review
Went to Wales last weekend with the lads and visited Llyn Cau. We climbed Ben Nevis on a previous trip but this time we wanted to mix it up and spend more time actually enjoying ourselves, so we went for the hike up to the lake and gave the full walk a miss. But I’d definitely come back and tick that one off the list. We spent the day paddle boarding, swimming and flying the drone, which was perfect for mountain surfing around the ridgelines. The scenery was stunning, one of those places where you just stop, breathe it in and feel lucky to be there. The water was cold but properly refreshing after the hike. Cracking day out. If you’re after a scenic adventure with a good mix of effort and chill, this place is spot on.

A hard slog at times, respect your ability and respect the mountain. I'm 72 and fit for my age and made it to the top. Very, very rewarding, stunning views and you're bound to make friends with other hikers. Take your time, I took 7 hours on the pony path and back and it was worth every step, enjoy

The Royal Ship in Dolgellau, Gwynedd is a traditional property located in the market town and part of the Snowdonia National Park. The hotel offers airy rooms with amenities such as TV, tea/coffee facilities, and complimentary toiletries. It features a restaurant, pub, beer garden, free Wi-Fi, and breakfast. The location is praised for its lovely surroundings and friendly staff.
Stayed for 1 night with a friend on a biking trip. Very happy with our choice. Best things about this hotel Good pub and restaurant. Plenty of choice of food Secure bike storage. Sheffield racks in a shelter with power sockets for charging. Gate locked at night Comfortable room. Our room had a separate but individual toilet and bathroom along the corridor rather than en suite Perfect location right in town

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcomed and that continued throughout our 2 night stay. We were given the disability room as requested which was lovely and clean and comfortable. The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we have ever had - compliments to the chef! We had an evening meal during our stay and the fish and chips was delicious. Situation of the hotel was central to the town and parking was relatively easy. Plenty of choice of drinks in the bar.

Probably the biggest pub/ hotel in Dolgellau. Didn’t stay so can’t comment on the rooms. Good selection of beers, lagers and wine. Robinson’s brew a Campden Stout too, delicious. Anyway, I can only comment the food and the service . Haddock chips and mushy peas in our case. Absolutely delicious and in a way totally unexpected. Even better because as we were eating on a Tuesday in was on promotion at £11.95 (I think), anyway great value for money. Staff brilliant, friendly but very efficient. Toilets immaculate, kind of says it all! I’ll be back!

This was mine and my partners second visit to Royal ship, and unfortunately, we left quite disappointed after coming for the Sunday roast. While the food itself was ok, it didn’t live up to the way the menu described it. We both ordered the pork and beef duo, which was meant to come with garlic and rosemary roast potatoes, but we could not see, smell, or taste a hint of either. The maple carrots lacked any noticeable maple taste, the pork and apricot stuffing was missing entirely, the cauliflower cheese was dry, and the seasonal vegetables amounted to just a couple of broccoli florets. If it had just been one thing, I would have happily mentioned it at the time, but as the whole meal was lacking, we decided not to say anything and won’t return for the roast. That said, the Midnight Sundae dessert was great, the Rioja was lovely, and the staff were welcoming 👍🏼

Walked past here and changed evening booking for a meal somewhere else as the food looked so good. Was not disappointed. Lovely meal, quality food and good service. Really glad we made the change. Solid pub food at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend and would probably book ahead as when we arrived on a Monday night, they did have a notice saying they were full if you handed booked in advance.
Richard L — Google review
We stayed at the Royal Ship the night before our wedding. When we arrived a girl gave us our key and a bottle of milk and gave very little information. We had to ask when breakfast was, where we parked etc., which wasnt too much of an issue at the time, but adds to the issues later on. The room was lovely, with a great view of the mountains, however the bed was a little wonky and we didn't sleep very well. The next morning, we woke up to get ready for our wedding to find the hot water wasn't working. My partner went downstairs to ask and the manager said they were having some work done on the boiler that day. Nothing was mentioned the evening before when we arrived and no apology was made. The manager was more bothered than we hadn't paid for the room yet, again not mentioned on our arrival. The boiler engineer was more sympathetic and turned the hot water on so we could shower and get ready. We went down for breakfast which was great, but we did feel very uncomfortable. For the price of the room, I felt it wasn't value for money, particularly if we couldn't have a hot shower in the morning. We certainly won't be coming back for our wedding anniversary.

Cafe
Yr Hen Efail is a charming café with outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying a meal in good weather. Visitors rave about the large vegetarian breakfast, particularly praising the addition of Glamorgan sausage and the strong, piping hot tea served in mugs. The café's beautiful courtyard makes it a gem of a place to visit, especially on summer mornings. The friendly staff and delicious food make it worth stopping by, whether you're just passing through or making a special trip to the village.
What a gem of a place! Beautiful little courtyard which is perfect on a summers morning. Friendly, polite staff & amazing food! Best breakfast I’ve had by far in a long time & washed down with a perfect pot of tea! I never usually finish a full breakfast, but I wiped the plate clean! Then went back before heading home, for a delicious ice cream! I live over 170miles away, and will definitely be visiting again next time I’m that way! Highly recommend a visit :)

Absolutely cracking breakfast. Nicely presented, hot and plenty of it. Haven't been back there for over 20 years due to spending time in Spain but we will definitely be going back there now we have static caravan in Tywyn. First class guys

Lovely place to start your day right. The breakfast and tea was wonderful, delicious and helped us for an action packed day. If you want to start your day right, come here. I ordered the Large breakfast, my partner ordered the small breakfast. Our entire bill came to £21.95, so doesn’t hurt the bank either which is an added plus for what you are getting.

I visited on a Sunday morning in March, brilliant cafe ! I found the cafe by accident whilst just passing through, the local car park is "pay and display" and the machines only take cash which was a challenge but having parked up and looking to take a break this cafe ticked all the boxes. I had the full English, perfectly cooked and no smell of cooking fat in the cafe (a pet hate of mine). Friendly and helpful staff, quick service. Great. This place has been booked marked for me next trip to Snowdonia.

Wow! I’ve been visiting this area for 25-30 years with nothing but praise and excellent comments to leave behind. However on this occasion I was unpleasantly surprised. I asked twice, “is the lasagne microwaved?”. I was told, “no.” Twice. Food arrives with ZERO evidence of ever seeing an oven. The unmistakable perpetual heat that you get after microwaving food remained mouth burning for 10-15 minutes. So I called someone over to ask a 3rd time. The following conversation was absolutely disgusting! “No one else complains.” Followed by 3 different stories at once on how the food was prepared. Easily fixed, with a sincere apology and an honest answer. Sadly both were lacking. I did get £30 thrown at me over the counter, to which I returned £10 as £30 was more than we paid. If I could give ZERO stars I would.

We were travelling through and came here after reading the reviews. We were really pleased with the quality and size of the breakfast; the sausages and bacon are particularly impressive! A great little spot to stop with friendly staff and a big car park outside.

We come here every year on our annual holiday and we are never disappointed. They do a good range of food so everyone (including the fussy kid) has plenty to choose from. The full English is lush and not many places do a decent veggie breaking but you will get one here. Definitely worth a visit.

Asian restaurant
Lemon Grass is a welcoming Indian restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and comfortable seating. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious dishes, including the legendary Lemon Meringue. Guests rave about the amazing food, particularly the butter chicken and curry, which are cooked to perfection. The fluffy garlic naan is highly recommended for scooping up the flavorful curries. Visitors appreciate the friendly and attentive service, with one diner noting that even an issue with their meal was promptly resolved by the accommodating staff.
Fantastic little resturant with very nice food and a friendly atmosphere. I think some of the negative reviews are misguided. The lovely Welsh lady serving made for a fantastic, warm and friendly evening. The food was very tasty and exceeded my expectations given you're in the middle of rural Wales. It is cash only, BYO alcohol and they didn't even charge for corkage. A brilliant night and great value for money at £100 for 5 people.

After listening to our fussy requests for a hotter curry, an outstanding saag was delivered and devoured. Very attentive staff, quality food and a lovely taster menu of favourite combo made for a great visit. We have a caravan in Barmouth, and after a disappointment in the local, decided to travel up. Now, will not be going anywhere else. 10/10..cannot comment on atmosphere really, as we were 1st in on opening

Don’t pay attention to the negative reviews... this place is a gem! The food was authentic, full of flavour, and absolutely delicious. Easily one of the tastiest Indian takeaways I’ve had in a long time. We were so grateful to find it open at 9pm, one of the only restaurants in the area still serving at that time. When collecting, it was a lovely surprise to discover the owners are from the West Midlands too such warm, friendly people who really care about what they do. If you’re in the area and fancy a proper Indian, you won’t be disappointed!

Staff went out of their way to accommodate our small gathering of three. My oriental partner was extremely impressed with the king prawn dish. All the meals were delicious and well presented. Highly recommend a visit and book in advance due to high demand. To be truthful without being disrespectful it's worth a visit just to see the beautiful lady hostess.

Wonderful, small, family run restaurant. There are the usual curries but the Lemon Grass does something a little different. Order the sauce then add the ingredients of your choice. I ordered a dhansak sauce with a mixture of vegetables and a garlic naan. Very tasty and filling. There was a great surprise when I bit into pineapple pieces. Not had pineapple in a curry before but it really works. 😋 £12.45 bill. 🙂

The Penmaenpool Toll Bridge, a childhood memory for many, is a remarkable structure that enchants all who cross it. The experience of traversing the Mawddach River is truly divine. Despite the minimal fee and the single lane available at present, one finds that this journey is worth every penny. Though adverse weather conditions may not be captured adequately in photographs, they fail to diminish the bridge's captivating beauty.
Lovely toll bridge £1 to get over. Amazing place for a quick pint and food the pub next to it offers great views of the river you can even have view from the balcony. If the pub isnt your think there is a lovely walk along the area with a free car park beware of the wild sheep haha make sure you bring a £1 🐑 🐶🐾🍺

We crossed the toll for £1 on our motorbike on Sunday. We crossed from the Penmaenpool side and paid on entry - cash. We passed motorbikes coming the other way and even with Paneers on both sides there was lots of room. The tollman was very cheerful and friendly. Clearly happy in his work.

Quicker and picturesque way to get to Fairbourne or surrounding areas from Barmouth or vice versa. This toll bridge is unique with beautiful architecture. There are some parking spaces to one side of the bridge if you fancy walking along Mawddach Trail. You have to pay to cross the toll bridge.

£1.5 to cross, but It's a great experience to drive across this fully wooden constructed bridge. Great views.

Lovely little historic wooden Toll bridge. There is obviously a weight restriction, so check before using. Would probably be slippery in wet weather, as the bridge deck is ridged wood - makes for a bouncy crossing on a motorbike. Various tolls to cross (£1 each for motorbikes)

Scenic Walking Areas
New Precipice Walk, also known as Llwybr Llanelltyd, offers stunning scenery and is a lovely part of the country. However, some visitors have expressed concerns about irresponsible dog owners leaving bags of dog waste in inappropriate places and allowing their dogs off-leash despite clear signage. The drive up to the walk is described as treacherous with several gates along the way and limited parking at the top.
I have walked the Panorama walk in Barmouth countless times but never been to this walk which gives magnificent views of the other end of the estuary. The drive up to the (very limited) parking is steep and narrow but if you are stuck for time on a quite day or if you have limited mobility it’s worth the drive (the stretch from the car park including where these photos were taken from is wheelchair friendly and flat).
Marcus K — Google review
Excellent walk, the views are absolutely amazing up there. Not much parking at top. Few gates to open. Stunning waterfalls on way up. Definitely worth the trek up. You can see all across the Barmouth estuary we took parents up one with a wheelchair and the other with a wheeled walking frame and they loved it. Walking in the mountains but on a flat path.
Sarah M — Google review
A fantastic walk with some excellent views up the valley and down the estuary. Parking is limited but free and if you don't mind a climb there are other places to park. Once you're up on the hill it's very easy going on pretty much flat ground and constant panoramic views.
Danny — Google review
Absolutely worth the treacherous drive up. Several gates to open on the way. There are 3 spaces at the top. No facilities. A picnic bench and several benches along the walk. Probably wouldn't recommend it if you have kids under 6 who can't be trusted. It is disabled friendly for the first section of the walk. The views are absolutely beautiful and you can see down the estuary to Barmouth. We didn't manage a round trip. We meandered for about 40 minutes to the waterfall and the derelict house before turning back. Will definitely return next year.
Ali D — Google review
Great views steep single track access with gates. Parking for three cars at the top. No facilities!! Beware this is a challenging drive up with no options to change you're mind, once your committed you're going.
John R — Google review
Easy walk on flat ground. Drive up to carpark is very narrow and winding and road has many gates but well worth it when you get to the top. Breathtaking views
Sarah — Google review
Had disabled member in our party so we drove up through the three gates to the top car park which is informally reserved for the disabled as there is only room for 3 cars or so. From there, we went along the flat ridge for 500 yards or so before heading back. A marvellous opportunity for those less able to experience hillwalking views!

Hiking Trails
The Mawddach Trail is a flat and easy 15km walk or cycle route from Dolgellau to Barmouth, with only about 50m of altitude gain. The trail offers pleasant forest paths and stunning views, especially after reaching Penmaenpool. The final stretch into Barmouth is particularly scenic, culminating in a walk over a huge bridge. This well-maintained and surfaced trail provides fantastic views across the river and plenty of resting spots.
Scenic flat walk. We parked up at Morfa Mawddach (train station toilet/ car park). There is only one blue badge bay and a couple of electric charge points. It's a small car park! The toilets have always been clean whenever we've parked here, accessible toilet is a radar key and to the rear of the building. Seems to be a popular meet-up point for cyclists. We've done this walk at varying distances. It's an easy graded ground, a bit sloped in a couple of places, but nothing major. There are plenty of places to stop and rest along the trail, picnic benches are dotted about. It's good for bird spotting as well. There is a car park with accessible toilets at Penmaenpool where you can also cross the toll bridge for a pound in the car or by foot. You could also just enjoy a drink or a meal at George III.
S S — Google review
This is a hike that delivers variety of coastal, mountains, babbling brooks and farmland. It is relatively easy to follow but I recommend bringing the trial map for a few tricky cross roads. We were lucky with the weather but it started out chilli and then the sun came out. Bring plenty of water and snacks and wear layers for mixed weather. The people we met were very friendly on the trail and on the local area so if you do get lost ask people. Say hello to fellow hikers and bikers!
Nichola C — Google review
Loved this walk. Very flat, would be perfect for mountain biking all the way from Dolgellau to Barmouth. Amazing views, lovely pub on the way, at the wooden toll road.
Deanne S — Google review
I walked this trail from Dolgellau to Barmouth, a distance of around 15km. (9 miles). It is part of National Cycle route 8. It's a little noisy to start with as it's next to a main road but it soon quietens down considerably. Following the river estuary there are stunning views of the ever widening waters and mountains beyond. There are plenty of picnic bench/table areas along the way and a couple of rest areas with PaD car parks and toilets (free and in excellent condition). The trail is predominantly very flat as it follows an old railway bed. The surface is fine stone and can be quite dusty in very dry weather. The estuary is tidal and at low tide there are mud flats and plenty of water based birds can be spotted. The Barmouth bridge follows a live railway line but is quite separate. For rail enthusiasts there are stations at either end. Depending on your walking speed, leave around three hours to complete the trip. Cyclists will obviously manage it substantially quicker.
Michael W — Google review
Very easy to follow and flat, easy walking (only about 50m altitude gain over the entire 15km trail). The scenery is initially pleasant, walking on forest paths, but when you get to Penmaenpool, the views really start to open up. The scenery on the final stretch into Barmouth is stunning and the walk over the huge bridge is a great finale to this epic trail. We walked from Dolgellau to Barmouth and obviously you can do it either way, but I imagine the other way wouldn't be as interesting. The Barmouth bridge path ends almost directly opposite a bus stop, where you can catch a bus back to Dolgellau. It's also worth taking the brief detour over the Penmaenpool bridge and back. (The toll is 30p for pedestrians, there was no price for dogs, but I assumed it would be the same price...!)
Pete A — Google review
Date of walk: August 2021 We did the southside trail on the disused railway line from Dolgellau to Barmouth along the mawddach estuary. Start at the bridge in Dolgellau, there is parking and public toilets available. Shortly into the walk you need to turn right onto the next footbridge to get onto the path. The path is then very flat all the way. Once you pass the George pub there are no toilets until just before Barmouth bridge. The views are stunning as you walk towards the bridge that comes in and out of view. Walk took us 3hrs 28mins Total of approximately 14/15km or 10miles. It could be done with wheelchair however good wheels required.
Jenny M — Google review
Rode from Dolgellau to Barmouth & back, 20 mile round trip. The first stretch from Dolgellau to Penmaenpool is ok but nothing that elevates this particular trail from other ex-railway trails. The real beauty is from then on when the views of the estuary open out all the way to Barmouth. Nice ride.
Toxteth G — Google review
Great walking trail and easy to cover. My partner, I and my 2 yrs old pup really enjoyed this trail. Recommend this trail for walking/biking/running ! If you cover the whole trail, on one end you will reach Penmaenpool, a bridge amidst mountain, lake.

Marian Mawr

(49)
Park
Marian Mawr is a public car park in Dolgellau, featuring an illustrative panel near its entrance that showcases the old mills of Dolgellau along the Afon Aran. The area is popular with dog walkers and offers access to various paths, including one leading to Cader Idris mountain, another to the Mawddach Trail and the George III pub and hotel, and a third path leading to Cymer Abbey.
This is a review of the public car park... Excellent... However use extreme caution to ensure compliance. Regularly patrolled by wardens who will happily issue fines for infringement. The gentleman towing a trailer for example purchased a single ticket but needed two tickets for the extra bay his trailer occupied. There is nothing about this requirement on the parking information sign but perhaps occupying two spaces may have suggested a two ticket solution. This requirement is also likely to apply to Motorhomes or long vehicles that overhang a second space. Public toilets available nearby. Another sympathetic gentleman who was witness to events related a torrid tale of similar injustice in the town 40 years previous. The solution back then was for him to get out his gun apparently and threaten the offending official. He did not state whether this was effective but continued with some extremely negative comments about the town council and local government officials. (One assume's this to be the nature of local politics). Equally some motorhome owners having been advised of current warden activity decided to skip town before incurring the wardens displeasure. Especially as the gentleman who was given the ticket was asking the warden if he was going to give them a ticket. On the whole it has not been my experience that this is a common occurrence but it did cross my mind what regulations or exemptions were in force and whether anyone had ever tried to give a ticket to the NHS articulated trailer parked in the car park. Who knows what else goes on here. Sit in your car awhile and watch it all unfold. Very busy here in peak season. Highly recommended. On the issue of parking I overheard that ASDA delivery vehicles and therefore others too were having problems delivering to Love Lane due to badly parked vehicles. This is a common occurrence in Dolgellau as can often be observed. Double yellows outside the bakers are just a mere inconvenience. Perhaps that's what makes Dolgellau such an interesting place. A gem of activities.

Open sports field next to car park in Dolgellau. Very reasonable charges. Path and river is part of the Mawddach Trial.

The Marion is a large green space between the town centre of Dolgellau and the River Arran. The majority of the area is allocated to rugby, football and cricket pitches. On the river side of the Marion is the Mawddach Trail and opposite that is a large pay car park and public toilets. It is a pleasant area to exercise dogs and facilities are provided (bags) to make this easier. There are no other facilities.
John H — Google review
Popular with dog walkers. On one side is Dolgellau Rugby Club and on the other is a foot path that follows along the upper bank of the River Wnion. A short walk along this path is a bridge from which a choice of 3 paths can be taken one leads to the Cader Road from where a long uphill walk is one of the routes to Cader Idris mountain. The second leads towards the Mawwdach Trail and the George III pub and hotel. The third path can be used to reach Cymer Abbey.
Louisa G — Google review
This is the best place to park short or long term for a visit to Dolgellau town centre. Strictly the location is really a sizable sports field for a football, rugby, and cricket club for the town, but it is put to use all year round by many clubs and activities. No matter where you stand on the Marian Mawr there is a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and hills including Cader Idris and the town. If you have a dog, ensure it is leashed as the local county council will impose a fine up to £1000 for any animal exercising on the Marian itself. They do however have dog waste bins around the edges and provide suitable bags too. The town borders one side of the Mawr and the river Wnion the other. Also the Marian contains the start of the Mawdach Trail. A 9 mile stretch of flat pathway built on top of an abandoned railway line. The other end is Barmouth with plenty to see in between. Dolgellau is a fab place to visit and the Marian Mawr is the best place to commence your visit especially if you go by car etc.

Animal rescue service
Hengwrt Boarding Kennels & Cattery is located near Dolgellau at Llanelltyd and has a rich historical background, once being the house of Robert Vaughan, a renowned antiquarian who collected ancient manuscripts. The owner is praised for her friendliness and kindness towards animals, with customers expressing satisfaction in the care provided to their pets. The facility is known for its loving treatment of dogs and cats, going above and beyond to cater to each animal's specific needs.
My dogs have been going to Hengwrt for a while now. One if them had a problem with his paw which required medication for the duration of his stay. This was no problem. Would happily recommend.

I took my dog here a few years ago, picked her up after a weekend and she smelt like she had been sitting in her own wee. She's never had issues and she's a happy bouncy dog. She was covered in fleas. It was very upsetting. I dont know whether it's changed much now, but worth having a look around before you book in to make sure you're happy with the conditions - I wouldnt go back.

DO NOT USE THIS KENNELS! They abandon the animals leaving them with no supervision and my dog now has an eye and skin infection. On arrival at the kennels the building looked run down and uncared for but I thought with him being a chilled out dog, us only going for a few hours and the office is right next to his run he would be fine. I thought it was odd we weren't asked for proof of vaccinations but she did ask if he had been vaccinated. We were then lead through to the pen/runs and I wasn't very impressed. Everything looked very rundown and in need of a good clean and repainting. In hindsight I should have tuned him around and cancelled the kids day out but again I convinced myself that he would be OK for a few hours. So I dropped him off at just after 11am and returned shortly after 3.30pm to find nobody there. After trying to call, message, look around the rest of the even worse state kennels (thankfully not in use) and trying the house nextdoor there was still nobody to be seen. At this point my dog was so distressed that he could see us and not get out that he was whimpering and shaking with stress. This in turn distressed my 5 year old twins who were crying with worry pleading with me and my husband to "get him out". I eventually got through to the lady 20 minutes later and asked her to release our dog. Her response was that she was out at the moment and wouldn't be back until 4.30 at the earliest. I was shocked and pretty angry. I asked her if anyone else was here to release him but she said no. I said, so there is nobody here supervising the animals at all through the day and she confirmed that this was true. This was the hottest day of the year too. I couldn't believe it. I was so angry. She arrived back at 4pm and wasn't very polite. our dog was returned to us and spent the rest of the day shaking. And to top it off, he was there for 4 and a half hours which turns out is enough time for him to get and eye infection and a skin infection. He has medication and shaved patches of fur so we can treat his skin. Awful place, zero animal care, zero cleanliness.

We sent our two cats Teddy & Bambi here recently for 4 days for the first time, and they were very well looked after and cared for. We were extremely grateful and the cats were very happy. At first we were very cautious and worried, as we care very much for our cats, but I was shocked to see how happy they were when we picked them up. The lady who owns and runs it is very friendly and kind to the animals, and will definitely look after them well. We will definitely let our beautiful babies stay there again if needed. Thank you!

This picturesque spot is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, offering an impressive array of freshly made cakes and pastries that are bursting with flavor.
Had a fantastic large cooked breakfast at this charming bakery today. The sausage, bacon and black pudding high quality and cooked to perfection! Came with toast, fried bread, mushrooms, beans and tomato. What a feast! Cakes look fantastic as well although definitely no room for them. Service friendly and professional and great atmosphere at the place, they were very busy.

Came across this wonderful bakery in Barmouth. Purchased a couple of buns lemon custard and cinnamon swirl to have with a coffee. OMG taste was amazing from savoury to sweets each and every item looked amazing. Would highly recommend this bakery gem. Staff were great really friendly and helpful. Definitely going to come back here.

We stopped by Popty’r Dref in Dolgellau for breakfast, and the food was as good as it looks. The portions were generous, beautifully plated, and genuinely delicious. The seeded toast with poached eggs, hollandaise, avocado, and greens was especially memorable: rich, fresh, and satisfying. The bacon and egg roll was also a proper beast of a sandwich, and the coffee was well-made and smooth. Prices were a bit on the higher side - felt more like London than a Welsh town - but to be fair, the quality matched. It’s not your everyday stop, but if you’re after a proper sit-down breakfast in a cosy setting with good coffee and flavour-packed food, this place delivers.

What a wonderful little place this is! Came in for cuppa and cake and went home with goodies for tomorrow! As we sat with our drinks there was a constant queue of locals, workmen and tourists coming in, some ate in, some took cakes away, some took hot meals away and sone were eating enormous plates of food! I know that when we're in the area again later in the year, we need to cone by again! Whether is was a snack or full on meal there was so much choice! And it all looked delicious!

Come to north wales for a nice holiday. Called in to pick up something nice for tea. I had 2-3 bites of this. It was so stale and the flavour of the cream was off I decided to throw it away. This evening I have been vomiting for 3 hours straight. I hope it passes by the morning or the holiday could be ruined!! The salad was fresh however. No complaints there. If only the same could be said about the cakes.

We had breakfast here. 2x Welsh breakfasts, an eggs benedict and a beans on toast. It's a gorgeous little cafe / bakery. The food was brilliant and the coffee was great too. It was so good we bought lunch stuff to take away.

Cute little cafe, friendly staff, sometimes I find it hard to find a vegetarian breakfast but it was sooo nice and you go so much food! My partner enjoyed his meat one too! 🌱🤎

George III, Penmaenpool is a charming family-run hotel located on the waterfront. It offers a free Welsh breakfast and features a restaurant as well as two bars. Visitors have praised the friendly and welcoming staff who provide excellent service and recommendations for delicious drinks and quality food from the marvelous menu. The hotel's beautiful location overlooking the estuary provides a relaxing atmosphere, with an outside eating area available. Guests are encouraged to bring their dogs, making it an ideal spot for families or pet owners.
Had an excellent short break at George III Hotel. Room overlooked the estuary and had window seats so you could sit and watch the birds and kayakers on the river. The room was very clean and facilities to have drinks, biscuits were provided including fresh milk. Food in the hotel was excellent. Had full English breakfast and tried their Lamb hotpot at dinner. There is a wide variety of food to choose from at breakfast and at dinner. Good quality food provided and staff were attentive to ensure we enjoyed our time at the hotel.

Best roast dinner! Super high quality and fantastic portion size. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The location could not be better, the views were fantastic. Everything was clean and lovely, would 100% go back here for another sunday roast when we next pass ☺️👍🏽

Lovely little pub with fantastic food. Have been twice now when visiting Wales. The second visit better than my 1st. The staff were nothing but helpful and the food was delicious. Highly recomend the mac and cheese. Right next to the water si an absolutely stunning view. For railway nerds like myself, it's on an old piece of life with some semaphore signals outside which is fabulous.

The staff where very hospitable, the food was lovely and well presented, the beer and wine also, the decor was very aesthetically pleasing, and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous, we visited on a blustery late afternoon/early evening in October and it was still gorgeous, there's a few tables outside under a shelter with a breathtaking view of the lake and bridge. I imagine it to be a real treat in the summer too. Highly recommend.

Despite being local-ish, my wife and I have never called in here before. It looked great online, nice menu and location etc. so we decided to to give you it a go for an early Saturday lunch in November. Sadly it was a huge disappointment from the outset. Arriving there can be compared with what I'd expect to take a spin on the moon because you're dodging huge craters all the way from the main road to the carpark. Mess up and you're going to need a wheel alignment done. Actually getting inside, we found seating area was full of braying people like they were in an audition for the next series of Made in Chelsea and wannabe country folk who's dogs were barking and snarling at each other from under tables. The staff answer to this (dogs going crazy) was 'oh we can't do anything about that' The dogs aren't paying customers, my wife and I would have been. It was ridiculous and the brewery seriously needs to revisit the policy they have on dogs. I like dogs, but having yapping and growling dogs straining at the leads where people want to eat isn't on. We won't be heading back to the George III anytime soon, probably never.

Me and my partner always drop by here whenever we're travelling to or from Barmouth. It's an absolute must. Beautiful place with breath taking scenery. Good choice of drinks, it's always immaculately clean, staff are always friendly and welcoming.

We had a dinner and a Sunday lunch when we were there for holiday. The pub is on the river bank with scenic view when drinking outside. We tried the wild mushroom pasta and the beef roast. All delicious! Best Sunday roast had so far this year!

Had a lovely visit. View was stunning and food delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive and we loved the dog friendliness of the restaurant which made our visit even better. We didn't book as booking were full but turned up on spec hoping for a table, staff managed to squeeze us in.

Chinese takeaway
Chinese restaurant
If you're in the mood for some delightful Chinese cuisine, look no further than the charming "Chinese Cottage." Despite a few mixed reviews floating around, my experience was nothing short of fantastic. The friendly staff made ordering a breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. With popular dishes like Young Chow fried rice and sweet-and-sour chicken on offer, it's clear why this takeaway attracts a steady stream of customers.
The food was amazing!!! sweet and sour chicken was 10/10, chicken chow mein also (i recommend the dry one) duck with beansprouts was great and the portions were big. we were all left happy and satisfied. thank you!
Angela M — Google review
If you are stuck, desperate and have no other choice, then consider this location. Order something without sauce & non fried as they can’t do either of these based on previous reviews and my experience. Keep the bill low to just fill yourself and save money. My chow mein was okay, I did request dry, so hard to mess up. We had a mixed starters where they put bbq ribs in the chicken satay box mixing the two. The fried salt and pepper prawns was put into a sealed box causing some horrible goop/jelly. First Chinese meal where I have been this disappointed.
Thomas B — Google review
Disappointed. I had the chicken chow mein. The noodles in the base of the tray were OK but a bit bland. These were topped with a glutinous layer of pale tasteless something with chunks of what looked like steamed chicken in it. I ordered some separates sauces, these also had no flavour and had the same slimy texture. Boiled cornflour and water I reckon, with minimal added ingredients. The sweet n sour sauce was most peculiar as you can see in the photo. Got the impression that all this stuff was prepared separately, then assembled. I'm used to there being a wok and seasonings involved. Sadly, I'll give this place a miss from now on.
Ann P — Google review
Never before have I been so let down with a meal, ordered salt and pepper chicken hot chickens feet and beaks. The price was extortionate after today I really am considering legal action for the emotional trauma caused by this meal
Joe L — Google review
Having read a number of other reviews on this site, I was wary. However I did not need to be concerned. The lady taking the orders was very friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. The takeaway was quite busy with a steady stream of customers, so if it’s as terrible as some of the reviews make out this would seem unlikely. My order was for young chow fried rice, sweet-and-sour chicken, and Schengen Singapore noodles. All the dishes were excellent, see photo.
Mel H — Google review
Visted whist in the area .... id seen some reviews so wasnt sure what to expect... but was very surprised... the food was great .... so good I visited twice in a row ....although they messed up my order the 2nd time .... but what I got was still nice ... worth a visit.... cash only ...
Ian C — Google review
I actually considered I might have covid whilst eating my meal from this restaurant. I couldn't taste a thing ! Total waste of money ! The pot of curry sauce was gloopy and the chow mein was just weird . On the plus side the prawn crackers were nice . The waiting area should of been an indication of what was to come . Very disappointed & can't believe the place is still open
J W — Google review
Vfm food, OK but not fantastic. No parking nearby so we hung around on a street whilst I went for the food. Free parking after 6pm but still no free official spaces! Dolgellau needs a good car park. Roads are narrow, with a one way system, and often very steep! The takeaway is very dated but you work with what you can afford-think it's stuck in the 70's and 80's with wood panelling on the walls. The lady who served me was polite and was served very quickly. There's no delivery service, and no Deliveroo Just eat etc. A gap in the market maybe?! Will go there again.

Pizza restaurant
Mawddach Pizza Napoletana, located in Pen Y Garnedd in Llanelltyd, is a highly regarded pizzeria known for its properly made stone-baked Neapolitan style sourdough pizza and other homemade Italian treats. Despite being temporarily closed for the construction of a new pizza oven, it is set to reopen soon.
Honestly felt the need to pinch myself! We were just driving by and spotted a sign for pizza. Pulled in quick and did not regret it! Amazing venue, amazing food, amazing service, loads of vegan options with everything (even the alcohol) clearly labelled. Want vegan cheese? It DOESN’T cost extra!! A 3 course meal for two with drinks was only £57, and when you compare that to the big pizza chains, the value here is incredible!
David S — Google review
wow!!! Do not miss this place, the view, the pizza, the service all amazing! Don’t forget to get the honeycombs dessert to finish off. I would book ahead to get a table - thanks so much

Friendly welcome, lovely staff and the most incredible views, coupled with one of the best - if not *the* best - pizza we’ve ever had (and we’ve eaten a lot of pizza!) The homemade ice-cream and chocolate cream with honeycomb delicious too.. All round just an amazing dining experience: If you’re in the area on the days there open, definitely visit.

You so gotta go!!!! Location, well just astounding! Get out of your car and wherever you look is a phenomenal view, recommend an early seating slot as the car park is small. The service was quick, efficient, friendly, quick witted, funny, fabulous. The food is delicious, what for me was best was there was no choose from all these different types of bases, then choose from all these different pizzas followed by a long list of dessert. One base, like it or don't! You'll like it. A good selection of pizzas though not too many and the specials. 2, one vegi one meat. Oh so simple and so yummy!!! Desserts, homemade ice creams, homemade chocolate with cream and honey comb. Truly delicious.

Cymer Abbey is a historic site located in the peaceful village of Llanelltyd. The abbey, founded in 1198, is well off the beaten track but surprisingly popular among visitors. It offers a tranquil setting despite its proximity to a small caravan park. The ruins are easily accessible with free parking available nearby. Information boards provide insight into the history of the abbey, making it an interesting visit for those curious about its past.
Who doesn't love to visit a good ruin? This bit of history is nearly a THOUSAND years old. Let that sink in a moment... a THOUSAND years old. The great majority of the abbey is gone, lost to history, but there is a handy sign that shows how it would have looked in its glory years. Nestled near the beautiful little town of Dolgellau, the abbey is well signposted and easy to find just off the dual carriageway. Located immediately across from some old-school holiday cottages on one side and a holiday caravan park on the other, I imagine this place gets its fair amount of visitors. Me and my family had the abbey to ourselves. I went a separate time with my Dad too in which we also had the place to ourselves. Absolutely superb for photo taking. Now, we did visit in mid-March, out of season - so that helped keep it quiet! No guests at any of the holiday houses or caravans until a few weeks later. So if you're looking to go and have a real quiet time, I imagine out of season is the way to go, but don't let that discourage you from going any other time. Entry is free and dogs are welcome on the grounds. Just be respectful and don't climb on the ruins. Stand back and bask in a bit of history.

A beautiful area, don't be put off by driving through a caravan park. It's small but we'll worth a visit. A beautiful bridge n river are nearby with good parking
Ickle S — Google review
The Abbey is at the end of a track with a couple of parking spaces. The Abbey is as expected, some ruins with a green space where some additional buildings once stood. As it is free entry, it is a good site to visit and spend 20-30 minutes looking around.
Steve H — Google review
Accessed via driving through the caravan park it has a small car park right next to it . It’s well cared for with mowed lawns! Only took 10 mins to walk round slowly but you can of course take longer!
Lyndsay P — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful. We parked in the National Trust car park at the end of the road by the bridge and walked approx 500yds to Abbey but noticed there are a few car parking places nearer the Abbey and farm.
Wendy W — Google review
Ok so as others have said there's not a lot here. Still if you like history and exploring ruins. It's definitely worth a look. It amazes me how these buildings are still here, the craftsmanship was definitely leagues ahead

Interesting history slightly off the beaten track. Free/non ticketed entry. Continue through the caravan park to get to this semi hidden gem. Interesting partially destroyed abbey ruins.

Recycling center
The Dolgellau Recycling Centre is a modern facility that provides recycling services to the local community. It offers a wide range of recycling options, including paper, glass, plastic, and metal. The center is well-organized and has designated areas for different types of recyclables, making it easy for visitors to drop off their items. Staffed by friendly and knowledgeable employees, the center is committed to promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.
This is most definitely the best refuse centre we have ever visited. It is clean. The staff are very willing to assist. Dave helped us move the rubble out of our car, volunteering to do so. The various waste skips are well labelled and if you don't know where to place your various items of waste the staff will always let you know, politely of course. Yes, you do need to book your slot, although this is not a problem . If anything it ensures that there is space for you when you arrive with your items for recycling. Were very lucky to have such a site.

This place has one of the best tip-views in the UK, with the majestic Cadair Idris visible behind the garden waste and metal slips. Staff can be hit or miss. Some are really friendly and helpful, with clear and consistent advice on the difficult subject of what constitutes a “hard” plastic. Others can’t believe a fully kitted out campervan is not a careful attempt to sneak in a builder’s van. Worth a visit if in the area, but don’t travel for this alone.

No dogs allowed anywhere in the park. I fully understand the areas fenced off for play equipment but to ban dogs from even the grass area is ridiculous. The rest of the town is so dog friendly with plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants promoting a dog friendly environment. Hugely disappointing

Had a lovely night here, staff were excellent, friendly and quick, without feeling at all rushed. Food was fantastic, a good combination of tapas style dishes, with a couple of twists thrown in (the Welsh lamb parcel was very tasty indeed). If you are in the area I would definitely suggest heading here.

We found this place through google reviews and were not disappointed. It's an award winning restaurant for reason. The atmosphere is great and meals are freshly prepared with good quality seafood. We were a group of 5 and they were kind enough to accept a reservation on the day. Lovely Spanish food and wine. Would recommend everything we had - Paella, prawns, squid/calamari and desserts. Free parking less than 5mins from restaurant.
Gilly — Google review
Had a great meal, served quickly and staff were friendly. The cheese bites with chutney are exceptional and the squid rings are some of the best. The sangria had too much lemonade in it but was still enjoyable. We ordered too much but were given a takeaway box for the leftovers which was nice.
Ell G — Google review
Eating early, on my own, I was a bit hesitant. However, the staff were just lovely and gave me a great table looking out onto the street. The house white wine was perfectly chilled and tasted good, the olives flavourful. I had patatas bravas and a mushroom and prawn croquette - they were both delicious. This place is definitely worth a visit - highly recommended.
Rhian W — Google review
We have eaten here a lot over the last few years. The service on the last 4 occasions have been pretty abysmal. Tonight told the Camembert was sold out, only for the next table to order the dish. The food is good, but the service for the last 4 times has really let the place down. Waited 1 hour for bread nibbles to arrive. Asked for water with our wine but never arrived. Pretty much ignored unfortunately recently, which is a shame as it’s a genuinely a place with good food. The chef is a really top lady, but her staff are letting her down.
Girtdog11 — Google review
We arrived as a party of 6 recently and ordered a variety of dishes between us all. Some dishes were exquisite, others not so. The lamb is filo was the highlight, the ribs a lowlight as very very fatty. Staff were polite and helpful. The atmosphere was a bit odd. I'd probably come again on a different night and to try different dishes.
