National forest
La forêt de Brocéliande is a legendary forest steeped in medieval Arthurian tales and historical sites, offering guided tours. It is part of the well-preserved Breton coast and hinterland, making it perfect for hiking with its diverse landscapes. This forest, along with Huelgoat Forest, is shrouded in Celtic mysteries and legends. Visitors can enjoy short walks or longer hikes around the deep lake while admiring the collection of hydrangeas.
Vibrant with goblins elves and other creature of the shadows. A walk in Brocéliande will bring you peace and strength

Lovely and peaceful place to visit. You can easily spend a whole day wondering around and getting lost in the beauty and enchantment of it all. Definitely worth visiting.
Joy B — Google review
Stunning walk here on a clear day. It is definitely worth doing the loop up over the ridge. Well stopped of here as we were driving south and it turned out to be a good choice.
Amyy — Google review
Didn't actually go this year, there had been a fire there. I have been before and enjoyed the walk to the Golden Tree. I don't know if it was affected by the fire.
Sally H — Google review
A nice short walk on the 2km loop but we could go no further due to the fire that some muppet had started the night before. We met someone who was there when it started, apparently by some dilbert trying to summon a dragon... I mean really.... 🙄

A beautiful place veiled in the legends of the Sangraal. Very nice and picturesque.

Brocéliande, the Gate of Secrets, is a mythical spot located in the forest about forty miles southwest of Rennes. It features a pile of red slate blocks with an ancient holly tree growing through them, adorned with flowers and wreaths made of seven times knotted hair. The area contains various shops offering commercial and original items such as natural products and unique trinkets.
Amazing experience at the Door of Secrets! Beautiful story, beautiful decor, great experience to be paired with a walk in the forest itself.

Great and lovely presentation. I won't forget what I got in my hand. Thank you for my lovely friend Stéphanie to show me there. .. Channi from Thailand 😍😊

Better than expected, was really interesting and immersive experience, the English translation was really good. Whole family loved it. Didn't get a ticket by email when I booked online but I had the payment confirmation I used at the desk.
Chris P — Google review
A very immersive experience that teaches you the interesting lore and legends of the area. Translation audio devices are available, don't forget to ask for yours before you go in. High quality experience that I would come back to again.
Jared W — Google review
Excellent animation about the forest and the myth of Brocéliande. The way the spectator goes through is very well organised and it is suitable for both adults and children. The surroundings are magnificent and the staff is welcoming. Also, it is accessible for people with disability or difficulty to stand/walk !
Clément E — Google review
A mythical spot that contains numerous shops to perk your interest and tempt the magical or skeptical side. Some shops are commercial while others are original containing natural items or unique trinkets. At the end of the road is the tourist spot for a tour and legend of the forest. This tour is recommended and gives you great information on the history of the forest before you set out and explore it on your own Like if you agree ✍️

Château de Comper - Arthurian Centre is a captivating destination that brings the legendary tales of King Arthur to life. Nestled in a part-ruined 13th-century castle, this fairytale-like setting offers woodland trails where King Arthur and his knights once rode. The museum inside the chateau showcases scenes from the Arthurian legends through reenacted shows, films, and beautiful objects that ignite the imagination.
Love this place. Georgiously situated, youcan go for lovely walk in the woods around. Inside the legend of the King Arthur, Merlin, Genièvre and the knights of the round table is greatly illustrated with some films, reanacted scenes, beautiful objects, lights, letting your imagination flowing in this fantastic legend.

We ended up turning around at the entrance because for a family of 6 (including a child going free) it would have been nearly €50 which we didn't think was worth paying. The locals told us it was a bit overrated so we didn't take a chance. But great parking and beautiful area!
Pris H — Google review
Museum with alot of lore and an steampunk event with a lightshow at the lake, magical.
Björn L — Google review
We are visiting the area with our 8yo and 4yo. This castle has been partially turned into an exhibit of the Arthurian legends and related artworks by what I'm guessing are local artists. The presentation we had by one of the animators was EXCELLENT - she was very sweet, animated, and the story was very interesting (all in French). While I'd not take a trip out of the way to see it, it's cute for a couple hours if you're in the area.
Holly R — Google review
Don't visit this centre, unless you're interested in a kitschy art collection, manikins and a lot of textboards, mainly in French. If you know the stories of the Round Table already you don't want to read them. If you don't know them yet, you probably won't have the time or the energy to read them all. In the bookshop many nice, but only French books. The castle itself is nice, but mostly ruined. The woods around the castle are nice, but rather small. I woudn't pay a ticket for all this if I had known this in advance. Save your money and walk somewhere else. The stories of the Round Table unfortunately do not come to live in the exposition in this centre.
Mark B — Google review
Couldn't get pass the entrance gate as the dogs are not alowed even in the park, despite the fact the sign said otherwise and had to wait 10minute to be served. Also the owner has a dog, so can't see the reasoning behind it! No wonder garmin doesn't have it as a historical monument as it looks naff. The first ever chateau where the dogs are not allowed even in the park!
Zuzi H — Google review
The château overlooks a beautiful lake. The legend of King Arthur is retold with pictures, films, audios inside the château. The entry fee is 7€.

Tombe de Merlin, located in the Paimpont forest, is a remodeled neolithic woodland burial site that is believed to be the final resting place of the legendary wizard Merlin. The forest is also associated with figures like the fairy Viviane and the Knights of the Round Table. Visitors can explore various sites related to these famous figures, such as Merlin's tomb, the Fountain of Youth, and the Vale of No Return.
Since I was a child I have been fascinated by the Arthurian legends, and visiting this place was magical for me, not because of the tomb itself but because of everything that surrounds it. However, I would not recommend this site for everyone, as the remains of the tomb are not as "impressive" as other monuments in the region. Yet, if you are a fan of Merlin's story, you will surely be enchanted by the magical aura of the site and the landscapes. The site is not very crowded or difficult to access, the remains are located a few meters from a parking area.
Laura B — Google review
If you go in with the expectations of knowing what this is you will be fine. Is a cool place to say that you've been and the Fountain of Youth is nearby. The nature trails are worthwhile as well. If you are driving by definitely make a stop. I would not go hours out of your way for this unless you are a huge King Arthur fan.
Christopher P — Google review
First off, this is not a French Stonehenge but it is a well worthwhile stop while traveling through the area. Parking is free and caters for a good number of vehicles. There is a forest walk that takes you to the visitors centre experience which is paid for but you can just do the walk and use the toilets. The stones are set in a wooded glade, some horizontal but many standing. There were a few people milling around but you can generally find an angle without showing them for pictures.
Chris S — Google review
The site was easy to find with lots of signs. The site and trails were clean and well-kept. Many signs on the trails tell you the story of the site. I would recommend going to La Porte des Secrets before and rake a tour with a history-teller in the forest to add magic to your experience.
Julie W — Google review
If you're into medieval lore you'll enjoy visiting this site.

A nice 4km circular walk which covers a calm lake area where we had a lovely picnic, stream, and a mix of fields and woodland. Perfect length walk for a young family. Merlin tomb, fountain of youth a bit of fun for us. 3 stars as the footpath markers were not always there we took a few wrong turns.

The Oak Guillotin is a very old tree, showing signs of decay but still bearing living branches. It holds an interesting history related to the Merlin legend and is considered a tourist spot. The surrounding countryside offers a pleasant drive to reach the site. While visitors cannot enter the tree's hollow, it remains an impressive sight. With its age and historical significance, this thousand-year-old tree serves as a thought-provoking place for contemplating human impact on the environment.
Very impressive old tree. There's nothing else around it to do or see, but if you are a nature lover, this beautiful old tree and its history is enough.

Very old oak, changed a little since 2019, you can't get near it anymore. Viewable from behind the fence. Still a nice place to visit.

A definite tourist spot to see. This tree has interesting history with it in regards to the Merlin legend of the forest. It is in a nice open country side, so the drive is also pleasant. While you can’t go inside the hole of the tree, it is an amazing site to stand before! I recommend this spot :)
Melissa N — Google review
The beautiful ancient oak tree is preserved carefully. It is 500 years old, and according to legends, even 1,000 years old. Imagine the historical events it saw during its life. It is enormous: The circumference is 10 metres. Amazing.
Rinat D — Google review
We saw this place on the tourist map in French and did not realize it was a tree until we arrived. LOL It is more than 500 years old. Very nubby and gnarly. Once you find the parking it is a very short walk. The history of the tree is available on a sign in French and English.
Susie B — Google review
It's a tree. That's it. But , if you are inclined to think about the stupid and selfish humans exploding their population from 2 billion in 1923 to 8 billion in 2023 and thereby making extinct insects, mammals and plants - and then themselves; this thousand yr old tree is a good place to think.
Peter P — Google review
I think the word magical best describes this place. Unfortunately, you can't (or shouldn't) get close to the tree for there's a barrier in several feet distance, but all this is understandable considering it's age and overall condition.

L'Arbre d'Or, located at the entrance to Le Val Sans Retour, is a remarkable sight to behold. This golden tree sculpture stands as a symbol of renewal in the forest following a devastating fire in 1990. The surrounding woods offer beautiful paths and stunning landscapes, including a picturesque lake and a hill perfect for a short hike. While finding the golden tree may be challenging, it's well worth the effort.
If you have seen the photos, you know what you're getting, but it's more than ten seconds of "gosh, it's a tree-stump painted gold" because these woods are exceptionally beautiful and full of lovely paths. Pro tip: Avoid hunting days during the season.
Nick J — Google review

Terrasse de l'abbaye is a lakeside restaurant that offers a unique ambiance regardless of the weather. It features a heated tent that can accommodate around 50 people, as well as ample seating outside. While not particularly elegant, the restaurant stands out for its fresh and meticulously prepared food, which is artistically presented on plates and glasses. The staff are young and well-trained, adding to the establishment's special atmosphere.
Really good food, large portions and well presented. Dessers are mainly ice cream based but look and taste great. Pleasant atmosphere with attentive staff. Menus all in French is the only issue, but we had 2 locals with us so no problem. Dog friendly.
Bob G — Google review
Beautiful staff, delicious food. However, endless waiting time. We spent 3 hours sitting there and 2 of the 3 were just waiting for our order, or to place another order for desert. It was understandable while the place was full, but when we went to leave, the place was almost empty and somehow the 15+ persons working there were still in a massive chaos. After waiting another 20 minutes in line just to pay the bill we were pretty fed up with the place. Maybe just a bad day? Still loved the food and the drinks. Ah, and before i forget, nothing was in english.
Josip J — Google review
The terrace, which is situated on a lakeside, is fashioned in a way which lets you take advantage of its ambiance no matter the weather, be it sunny, chilly or rainy outside. As such, there's a heated tent, where you could fit about 50 people. Outside the tent there are also quite a few places to sit. Even though you couldn't call the place elegant per see, its fresh food, cooked under the longing gaze of clients, its exquisite, rich, excellently executed menu, which is artistically arranged in plates/glasses and the young and well trained personnel give this place a particularly special feel. My thanks to the chef, my congratulations to the personnel and bon appetite to the lucky people which will choose D'Abbaye terrace  to entice their senses.

Val sans Retour, located in the ancient forest of Paimpont, is a stunning valley with connections to Arthurian legends. The 4km walking trail offers beautiful scenery and a good view from the highest point. However, some visitors have found the signage confusing and noted that parts of the path may not be suitable for children or individuals with disabilities. Despite these challenges, many describe it as a lovely and magical walk through a fascinating environment.
Beautiful scenery, nice mix of environment. Could do with better signage (we thought we got lost more than once) and a bit of a warning that some of the path is not kid friendly/accessible (we ended up helping a family with kids and buggys to go up steep rocks) For curious explorers, it's a brilliant place!

Nice walk in the forest with a good view on the highest point of the track. The walking trail is 4km long and easy for anyone to complete (our niece did it in flip flops but I'd still recommend sneakers, you'll be walking in a forest). The orientation signs are a bit confusing or missing at some points in the end so you need ti follow your instinct (recharge your batteries, just in case). It's a nice place to have a walk, maybe grab a cup of coffee in the village before moving on. We took 2 hours for the walk and another hour for coffee.

Nestled in the heart of the Paimpont forest, La Fontaine de Barenton is a legendary bubbling fountain with deep medieval roots. According to folklore, this mystical site is associated with characters from the tales of King Arthur, including Merlin and Viviane. It is said that splashing water from the fountain can summon rain and some believe it holds the secret to eternal youth. Despite its popularity among tourists, this enigmatic spot retains an air of mystery.

Nice hike, path could in some places be more clearly signed. Entrance from parking lot, NOT from the visible sign at the entrance to the parking lot!
Wiep S — Google review
The legend surrounding it was interesting, but when we got there it was hard to actually spot due to all of the people sitting around it and it is quite small. They didn't move the 20 minutes we were there (feeding the baby). It seemed as though they wanted everyone to leave so they would have it to themselves. But it is peak season, so there was a steady stream of people. Makes it more important to share the space, so we can all enjoy it! It was a shame it was a bit underwhelming considering the story behind it.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent 10km walk. If you were ever afraid that the forest would lose its interest after the fire of 2022, that is not the case. The place remains magical and the trees, some charred, others having held up, give the place a frightening and magnificent appearance. Concerning the giant's tomb as such... it is sublime, we would just like visitors to respect the place (mound of stones, feathers and branches in the tomb as well as toilet paper and the human excrement that goes with it. Shameful! I think I made sure that it doesn't show in the photo, not having thought about my future opinion) It's not the fault of the place, but still very unpleasant.

(Translated by Google) A somewhat mysterious site, which, with a little imagination, hints at a very distant funerary past steeped in legends and rites. Slightly lost in the middle of nowhere, accessible by a very easy forest path (the site is located alongside a logging operation), the stones and their arrangement leave little doubt that this is an ancient burial site. We are not looking at two or three stone blocks, the last remaining traces of a much larger megalithic site. Everything seems to still be there (or very close to) an ancient sarcophagus. The site is well worth a visit, including the short walk that leads to it.

Situated in the picturesque Broceliande region, the Site historique des Forges de Paimpont is a historic iron foundry complex dating back to the 17th century. Happened upon it by chance but worth adding to a list of destinations in Broceliande. Truly an historic iron foundry complex, dating to the 17th century, both for French & American history. It adjoins a beautiful lake and there's an excellent country restaurant on the hill above the foundry.

Historical landmark
Rocher Glissant is a magical and impressive rock formation that may be a bit challenging to find, located near a small dirt road. It is less crowded than other spots in Broceliande, making it worth the visit. The walk along the AFF is delightful, and the legends surrounding the slippery rock add to its allure. Accessible after a hike in the Aff valley, reaching this unique rock involves navigating through steep climbs and descents but promises an enchanting experience.
This part of the forest is very very beautiful. Good shoes should be worn.

The start of the walk is flat in the village, then you have to be a bit of an adventurer, with a nice slope and a nice climb. There are a few stairs here and there. Nature side: super pleasant, you can hear nature at work: wood creaking, wind in the leaves, birds singing (missing the sound of water, I hope you'll be luckier than us 😉). Nestled in a picturesque old building by a serene lake, Restaurant Les Forges de Paimpont offers a delightful culinary experience steeped in history. Originally a workers' canteen, this charming eatery has transformed into a haven for food lovers under the expert guidance of Chef Jacques Gouneau. Specializing in local fish and game dishes, the restaurant showcases seasonal ingredients with finesse, particularly through its wood-grilled preparations. Guests rave about the homemade terrine and onion jam that perfectly complement their meals.

Very beautiful restaurant in a fairytale location with the view on the forest and a pond. The food was delicious. Only negative feedback I have is that the brochette de boeuf was very small (only 4 small pieces of meat for more than 20 euros). The meat was delicious, but should be bigger. I would have given 5 stars. Service was good, with most of the staff very welcoming. One of the waiters (a lady) seemed annoyed to serve us and wasn't helpful with our questions on drinks. However she seemed very nice to the french customers...

Very pretty restaurant in a quaint old building by a lake in the woods. Attractive and smart dining area with polite and friendly staff. A delicious gastronomic menu, with interesting and varied seasonal dishes, expertly prepared and well presented. Our main dishes could have been warmer, and I prefer my sautéed potatoes a little more crispy, but given that there was not a spare seat in the whole place and that a huge group of motor car tourers turned up at the same time as us, the quality and service, even under pressure, was top notch. There was a pleasant 'hubub' because the restaurant was so busy, not sure what the atmosphere would be like under more normal circumstances though. It wasn't cheap at 38 euros for the four course Sunday Lunch and bottles of wine starting at 20 euros, but if that's not a deal breaker for you I don't think you will be disappointed!

(Translated by Google) Let's stay constructive... it was the triumph weekend of the Saint-Cyr officers' school. So it's certainly not like this every day! We weren't warned, but to "go faster," we were forced to order a 45-euro meal. I put quotation marks because we were served very slowly (30 to 40 minutes per course). We arrived at 11:30 a.m. and left at 2:00 p.m. We had a choice of lobster, which looked more like a crayfish than anything else given the quantity, and prime rib with more fat than meat. Luckily, the bread was there. For 45 euros, it's a shame... We ended up with an overcooked "molten" steak. The service wasn't unpleasant, even if a bit slow. I wish the owners all the best; I've heard good things about this establishment. We were probably just unlucky with the service offered.

(Translated by Google) An authentic and vibrant establishment. If you love fine dining, Audiard-style ambiances, and traditional French cuisine, you've found the place to be. I first experienced it in February, and I've been coming back every other weekend ever since... Le Pont du Secret is proudly rooted in its local roots and offers cuisine and service that are rare to find these days. The staff is dedicated to their work and will provide you with excellent service. They will be eager to guide you through their wide selection of products. With a wood-fired kitchen and shared seating, you can come alone or in large groups. The atmosphere is family-friendly, and the owner is keen to maintain contact with his guests, thus offering a unique experience. You can go there with your eyes closed (just be careful of your step as you enter). You won't experience this anywhere else! (Original) Un établissement authentique et débordant de vie.
