Nestled at the base of the renowned Loch Ness, Cruise Loch Ness offers a variety of ways to explore the area. With a population of around 700, this village provides stunning views across the loch and serves as an ideal starting point for activities such as walking, cycling, and wildlife watching in the Scottish Highlands. The Great Glen Way presents picturesque walking routes while the South Loch Ness Trail is perfect for mountain biking.
Great tour! The boat ride was smooth and the crew was very friendly. They do have a bar on the first deck which is enclosed and the second deck is covered but open on the sides. They have sonar running in case Nessie makes an appearance which was fun. The guide gave a great summary of the fish found in the Loch and the research that was being done. He of course also included a short history of Nessie. I grew up reading about Loch Ness, so this was a truly enjoyable experience for me. The views are beautiful and I am very glad that I went on this cruise!

Took the Loch Ness cruise in mid March this year and what an adventure! Fair warning: it was absolutely freezing, and the downstairs cabin filled up fast, leaving us braving the elements on the upper deck. Pro tip: arrive early if you want any chance of staying warm indoors! Even wearing the same gear that kept me comfortable in Iceland, I was still shivering. As for Nessie sightings? Well, let's just say only the truly dedicated (or slightly mad) tourists like us were out there in those conditions - and apparently, the monster has more sense than we do! She was probably tucked away somewhere warm and cozy. The boat had “sonar” screens and a great guide! Despite the arctic conditions, the scenery was stunning and the experience memorable. Just come prepared for Scottish weather, no matter what the forecast says! Pro tip #2: Scottish whisky really helps keep one warm!!!! 🥃 full bar on board!

Very nice cruise and at a very fair price, considering the tourism of the area. We went on a whim and were glad we did. Our guide was funny and informative. Our captain took us close to the cliffs. Overall, highly recommended.
Jeffrey V — Google review
First off, it’s super pet-friendly! The cruise had cosy indoor spaces and a lovely outdoor area on top where you can soak up the wind and the loch’s vibe. Everyone on the tour was super friendly and full of knowledge. I learned a ton about the latest Loch Ness monster research, and even got a little whisky class that I absolutely loved!

Loch Ness is a place of stunning natural beauty. Surrounded by rolling hills and peaceful landscapes, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the calm and charm of the Scottish Highlands. Whether you're there for the legendary stories or just to take in the scenery, the loch has a quiet, magical atmosphere that’s hard to forget. A beautiful destination well worth the visit.

We visited today 16/07/2025 and it was certainly worth its money for 2 hour trip. Peter the tour guide was brilliant and kept all the passengers entertained and ensuring he spoke to each one. He is definitely an asset to Jacobite!!! Peter and hubby spotted Nessie 🤣🤣 Currently staying in Loch Ness Lodges, wow these lodges are beautiful and relaxing...visiting from Peterborough and Derby

We had a marvelous skipper call Diane on a speedboat on loch Ness and learned so much about the loch, how it was formed and all the flora and fauna around us as we went. We had amazing views of Urquhart Castle. It was an exciting ride and this is the third time we did it this year! Looking forward to next time thank you everyone at Cruise Loch Ness. We highly recommend you. Pino and Caroline

The Moorings Restaurant offers excellent food at a reasonable price, and is located close to Fort Augustus. The staff are friendly and welcoming, making it a charming place to have lunch.
On a cold rainy day, this restaurant is a life saver. A rest from the wet weather as well as serving good food. Tried the scampi and fish and chips and they were great. Price can be on a high side but it's something to be expected when it's a touristic part of town.

Good place to eat near Loch. Plenty of options, reasonably priced, halal menu. Friendly staff, we ordered 3 pizza, chips, Turkish salad and chicken nuggets. Food was freshly made and delicious. Portion size were good. Staff was very welcoming. Clean sitting area, clean toilets. We enjoyed our lunch. Definitely recommended.

Ken is amazing, from service to food to care. The best place for Halal food in the North. Cannot beat the Turkish flavours, Baklava and tea. Had amazing time with super tasty food. Thank you Guys.
Aqib K — Google review
My husband and I were a little skeptical because of the reviews. Some complained about the price. We ordered the mixed kebab. I wished I had taken a picture before hand. The portions are HUGE!! We shared this plate and it was fantastic! The flavors were incredible, the red chilli sauce had a wonderful flavor with a kick of spice, but not too much. The white garlic mayo sauce was so good and flavorful, (not spicey yet flavorful). We were very happy for the value and large amount of food. I'd suggest, you order and share whatever you decide on. Alex, the chef would cook the food and deliver to the table. He's very friendly and fun. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant.

Clean, welcoming place to grab a bite to eat right next to Loch Ness. The menu has plenty of options and every dish we have tried as a family has been delicious. Freshly cooked, good portion sizes, hot and tasty. Prices not unreasonable for a tourist hot-spot and staff always courteous and friendly. Can be busy at peak mealtimes but this is a sign of the quality of the food - don’t be put off! Have been back every year for at least five years and never once disappointed.

I don’t know what these other lowball reviews are talking about. The food was outstanding and the service was warm and friendly. There were loads of options on the menu, each full of flavor and generous portions. Highly recommend for anyone staying or passing through Fort Augustus.

Very expensive a coffee hot chocolate and baclava cake £15.5 to go. We were told kitchen had closed and had to eat them outside. It was October and 21:00. Place looked ok but felt a real lack of authenticity about it which is a shame as its on a really nice spot in Ft Augustus. Theres also not many other options arriving later on. Try and avoid if possible there are far better places offering a more authentic Highland experience

Scenic spot
The Loch Ness View Point in Fort Augustus offers a breathtaking and serene experience. The tranquil waters of Loch Ness reflect the calm of nature, creating a symphony of peace amidst the crisp Highland breeze and panoramic views. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery, interact with friendly mallard ducks, and even take a swim in the legendary waters. The area also features local pubs, tourist stores for necessities and souvenirs, as well as ample parking and public toilets.
This town is deservedly popular. In addition to the spectacular South end of Loch Ness, the locks on the Caledonian Canal and the River Oich the place is full if restaurants and gift shops. If you are driving I'd get there early before the parking lots fill up.

Such stunning natural beauty! The north of Scotland is like nowhere else—the lakes and endless green fields stretch as far as you can see. Maybe it’s the clear air, but I just loved it. The drive was exhausting, but totally worth it.

I am so repetitive when it comes to the view in the amazing country I am lucky to call home. But again, the views are beautiful! Pictures will never do this justice but I think I have some I can add. If you are lucky enough to visit you will see exactly what I mean. Our son tried his hand at stone skimming, failed but he tried 😂 we’ve recently bought ourselves a camper and are trying to do as many trips as we can even if they are short visits. No tickets for this site. I don’t think I’ve ever had to pay to take a picture of our signs and views ❤️

Nestled on the edge of the village's main car park, Monster Fish & Chips Co. may not boast much charm, but it's a no-nonsense food hut that delivers delicious fare. While some find the staff a bit prickly, others rave about the friendly service and passion of the servers. Visitors can also enjoy boat trips with a chance to spot Nessie on the radar.
Best delicious fish chips. Batter thin real fish you can taste fresh. Pay by cards. Food ready less than 10 min. Sitting available. Q is long usually.

I was very surprised and impressed by this fish and chips. Given the location I was part expecting a bit of a tourist trap but the food and the service were both excellent. Only downside I would suggest is portion sizes slightly on the smaller side however the quality more than makes up for this!
Joelew 2 — Google review
This takeaway is located between Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye. It's a popular one-hour stop in town for a short break. Their fish and chips are the most popular among drivers and tourists. The fish is fried to a quick, crispy perfection, but the chips, scampi, and sausage are just average.

Deliciously fresh haddock, yummy gravy and mushy peas. Overall very tasty fish and chips, this place is in a great location too with lots of outdoor seating🦕
Michelle L — Google review
I enjoyed these. Slightly expensive for the portion size. A “large fish and chips” is effectively a small fish and chips for one person. But fish was excellent as was the chips. Large portion of chips, mushy peas and curry sauce with two drinks was £20.40. My partner had already snacked so only had a handle of chips. Huge carpark with 30 mins free parking. There is a few benches to sit around the shop and some off the car park. Petrol station next door also.
CrazyF00L — Google review
This was some of the best fish and chips we had in Scotland. The store is located near the towns car park so it’s very convenient for visitors. The fish and chips were freshly made to order, and the portions were generous. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, and the homemade tartar sauce was pretty good. Ketchup is extra, but the pouch was quite large. There was lots of outdoor seating, and the fish and chips hit the spot after a long day of driving around Loch Ness.
Michael S — Google review
Really tasty fish and chips by Loch Ness! 🐟 The fish was incredibly fresh with perfectly light, flaky batter that wasn’t too heavy – just right. The chips were thick-cut and hearty, maybe a bit too much at times, but still satisfying. The tartare sauce was excellent, and the pickled onions added a fun touch. A great stop if you’re in Fort Augustus! Quick service if you’re in a hurry!

We were in Fort Augustus for a short visit, and 4 of us stopped for lunch. We found the food and service to be quite good. I think I had steak pie, wife had a veg meal, and two toasties. All hot and delicious.

I don't like giving bad reviews, however. We called in to have a quick pint and a light bite to eat. Bacon baguette was nice and beer was good. The barman was friendly, the lady taking orders was..... let's say....... impatient. She obviously didn't want to be there and really didn't want to serve anyone. We couldn't help but laugh as she sternly told tourists " the kitchen shuts in 2 minutes!!" In her defence, possibly 8 people arrived for food just as the kitchen was closing. Having spent 25 years in sales and customer service, I understand. But, as I used to remind myself THESE PEOPLE PAY MY WAGES. I'd like to thank her for the comedy she provided us on the way home. We laughed and laughed 🤣🤣

Nice local bar. Decent food and good service. As mainland europeans make sure ypu are early. Kitchen close at 8 and it really closes. The local beer is good. Tennent lager.
Gerard B — Google review
This place has so much potential. The furnishings let it down (looks like an india/Chinese restaurant). A touch of furniture with character could go a long way. They don't serve any type of warm drinks (my mother's request) which is unusual even for a pub. The woman behind the bar is unwelcoming and very much looks displeased to even work there. It's a very quiet pub, even for a Saturday and I now understand why.
Hannah G — Google review
Very busy place. Thought we were not going to be served. To our surprise we were seated right away and served right away. Got our order within fifteen minutes including drinks and was just beautiful. What a beautiful place the bothy is. The food was so nice and extremely reasonable for a tourist trap. Very good access for my wheel chair. Had a table for my wheel chair to fit right in. Staff were overly helpful in a very nice way. This place gets ten stars. There is loads of places to eat in fort Augustus but do give the bothy a try. I recommend it! See pictures attached. Not of food but of surrounding area.

Incredible location in the beautiful Fort Augustus. The Bothy was easy to get to as right in the centre of the town, where we ate unfortunately had no views of this. There appeared to be a broken light when going to the toilet cubicle, no light switch visible. Menu was fairly limited and they were going out of stock of certain items even as we were there, also it became apparent that the kitchens closed at 1930 which seems very early for a Friday night. The staff were friendly and service very quick. Food was good quality, what you would expect for the price, however nothing particularly special, Biscoff cheesecake however was a great choice for a dessert. Ultimately happy with overall experience for price.
Matthew R — Google review
Fantastic atmosphere! Good service. But I'm sad to say, mediocre food. The steak in the steak pie was dry. The chips, while good, were nothing to write home about. Overall, would I come here for dinner again ... probably not. Would I come here for a casual pint with friends ... most definitely!!!

Such a cute little pub tucked away in the middle of port Augustus. The staff were so kind. When you walk in the menu is in the back wall, you order at the bar and they bring your food. Very fast service. We ordered the battered haddock with chips and the soup of the day which was mushroom. It was absolutely delicious. The battered fish was so light. The soup was incredible. It was a mushroom soup with black pepper. Will be back here next time I’m in Scotland.

The Lock Inn offers amazing fish and chips that exceeded our expectations. The fish was incredibly fresh and the chips were freshly cut, making for a delightful meal. There's also a great selection of draft beers to choose from. You can enjoy your meal either inside or outside. The curry was unexpectedly nice, adding to the overall experience. It's a great place for dining and drinks. While the staff could be a bit friendlier, it's still a wonderful spot to visit. Highly recommend!

On a crisp afternoon in Scotland, I found myself in a cozy pub nestled in a quaint village. The warm, inviting atmosphere was filled with the sounds of clinking glasses and lively chatter. The wooden beams and tartan decor added to the charm, making it a perfect spot for a traditional meal. When the waiter brought out my plate, I was immediately struck by the golden, crispy batter enveloping the flaky white fish. The fish was perfectly cooked—moist and tender inside, with a satisfying crunch on the outside. Accompanying the fish were thick-cut chips, also golden and crisp, seasoned just right. A side of tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon completed the plate, offering a zesty contrast to the richness of the fish. Each bite was a delightful blend of flavors and textures. The batter was light yet hearty, while the chips were fluffy and comforting. It was easy to see why this dish is a beloved staple in Scottish cuisine. This dining experience was not just about the food and drink; it was about enjoying a slice of Scottish culture. The combination of fish and chips with a well-crafted beer made for an unforgettable lunch. As I savored the last bites, I felt a deep appreciation for the simple yet profound joys of good food and drink in a welcoming setting.

This place was so good, the lady who owns it was the friendliest waitress we met on our trip too! The pizza was absolutely amazing, so fresh, light and, crispy, it was honestly perfect. My husband and I both got one to ourselves and each ate the entire thing. We also had a tiramisu cheese cake, which her husband makes by scratch, and we devoured it, i could of just kept eating it! I honestly want to know the recipe because WOW. Id come back in a heartbeat, and would highly recommend this place!

Honestly…I would love to not tell you how I have eaten pizza all over the world and this was the best pizza I’ve ever eaten in my life. Because then it would be easy to walk in and get a table (no bookings) and enjoy a pint with good conversation. But that wouldn’t be doing our hostess, Sam and her husband any good and I want them to stay in business just in case I happen to come back to Loch Ness. Sam was delightful and has put a lot of love into the business and her husband is a fantastic chef (writing this in hopes I get the dough recipe). I’ll be missing this pizza from Oklahoma. Don’t sleep on it.

A real gem in Fort Augustus! The pizza is simply excellent, with a light and flavorful dough – probably the best meal you can have in town. The atmosphere is cozy, and the service is outstanding, which makes the whole experience even better. Keep in mind that the indoor space is limited when the garden isn’t open, so I highly recommend making a reservation. And the cheesecake… it was so good I couldn’t even stop to take a picture – check other reviews to see it, it’s absolutely worth it! 🍕🍰

OMG - Awesome pizza in the coziest venue!! This little place is tucked away on the street behind the main canal thoroughfare. We had a wonderful stay at The Richmond House Hotel. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of town, directly opposite the Loch Ness Caledonian Canal Cruises Centre, which made exploring the area incredibly convenient. The room was basic, dated, but ok. The shower was disgusting though; smelled bad and had what appears to be mold. I didn't use it in the end and just washed in the sink. Room 4 really needs a deep clean, twice!

A cozy lodge in a magical place. Hard to believe somewhere this beautiful really exsists. Our room was comfy and good for a short stay. The bathroom is a good size and the price is very good for what you get. We were only here for a night but very happy with our stay.

The Caledonian Canal Centre & Lock Chambers is a picturesque spot along the Caledonian Canal, offering a charming flight of locks and benches for a leisurely picnic while observing boats navigating through the narrow staircase. The center features a friendly Nessie sculpture and a small free exhibition on the waterway, as well as delightful cakes. Additionally, visitors can explore themed rooms at Lock Chambers with mountain views and enjoy Highland hospitality in this boutique hotel near Fort Augustus.
For the accommodations: rooms were nice; check-in was easy; and the staff were soooo nice. Perfect location. For the cafe: SO TASTY! Great coffee - you must get a breakfast roll. The cafe has a beautiful patio overlooking a canal and is connected to a great little gift shop.

2 night stay as part of a highlands tour. Lovely clean modern rooms. Good value and breakfast in the cafe was excellent! Great base to travel around locally.

The shop close at 1700, however the staff is already vacuum cleaning the shop, it not a problem, understand that they wanna off work on time, however it’s still 20mins before closing time, the women just don’t care about customers, she literally just push the vacuum cleaner in front of us when we were just trying to look at the shop. This is not only the reputation for the shop but also safety hazard from customers tripping for the cord.

Loch Ness Highland Resort

Holiday park
Nestled at the southern edge of the renowned Loch Ness, Loch Ness Highland Resort offers cozy glamping pods and spacious holiday homes, providing a perfect retreat for modern adventurers. The on-site facilities are superb, and there are endless opportunities to explore the surrounding area. Guests have praised the spotless and well-equipped pods, friendly owners who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay, as well as the convenient location just a minute's walk from local attractions.
We stayed one night at the Loch Ness Highland Resort and were very impressed. We arrived late, but the team kindly arranged for our keys, which was a thoughtful touch. The resort has a great layout with lodges of various sizes—ours, the micro lodges, faced the garden and had a lovely patio. Inside, it felt surprisingly spacious, more like a tiny home, with everything you could need: a double bed, bunk bed, small kitchen, indoor shower and toilet, plus seating. The design is modern and well thought out and the location and amenities were excellent. The only small downside was the early 10 am checkout, but that seems to be standard these days.
Andrei S — Google review
Friendly welcome, ideal for star gazing and walking distance from the centre of the town are the plus points. The shower units are designed for a short petit person, not enough space to swing a cat. Washing up area is not properly lit and diving on sharp gravel not good at all for the tyres. Still, it is okay for a stop over, has it's own restaurant and bar. Space everywhere. Would recommend.
Ergun S — Google review
10/10! The staff were SO friendly. The showers were hot and clean, the camp was quiet, and the pitch was level. The restaurant, Highland Hideout was tasty and the portions generous. Plus, Fort Augustus is freaking precious. Definitely recommend this caravan park.
Mallory B — Google review
Site is large plenty of room between pitches. Toilet and shower block very basic 2 shower cubicles in a cabin no room to get dry properly 4 individual toilets but only 2 were open. Grass area in the middle for tents ground is full of wasps that burrow under the ground you can here the hum as you walk across the grass definitely would not like to pitch a tent on that especially if you had children running around. The restaurant was closed on Tuesdays and don't open until 12.30 other days food was good and drinks were reasonably priced cheaper than in the surroundings pubs and restaurants. 5 minutes walk to all the shops and bars and the boat trips.
Sonia P — Google review
We stayed in one of the small holiday pods and absolutely loved it. The location is fab. Its just a couple minutes away from Loch Ness, and from Fort Augustus where you can find souvenir shops, the visitor centre, and some great places to get food. We did have issues with the shower, it was either way too hot or way too cold with no in between, and although the team went and had a look, we couldn't get it to a suitable temperature and resorted to cold showers for the holiday. The bed in the pod we stayed in folds up and can be replaced by a table, but when we got the table out, we realised they hadn't cleaned under the bed in quite some time. Fortunately the team there were extremely friendly, and the location made the holiday, so despite the issues with the room I couldn't give it less than 4*.
Isobel — Google review
We stayed in one of the pods (micro lodge). It was cleverly laid out so even though it's small there was still plenty of room for two people. The view from pod 14 was gorgeous! It's close to the centre of Fort Augustus but in a quiet area. The food at the restaurant was lovely! Bathroom was spacious and had plenty of storage. It was also spotless!
Charlene A — Google review
“A hidden gem by Loch Ness!” Absolutely stunning location — the perfect mix of peaceful Highland scenery and modern comfort. The lodges are beautifully finished, spotlessly clean, and feel so cosy yet spacious. Waking up to the views of Loch Ness is something you’ll never forget. The resort is well looked after, the team are welcoming and always ready to help, and the atmosphere makes you feel instantly relaxed. Great for families, couples, or anyone looking for a Highland escape. If you’re thinking about a holiday home or just a luxury break, Loch Ness Highland Resort is the place. Highly recommend!
Lisa M — Google review
I understand this is a new site and still undergoing work however it’s really not fit for purpose.Toilet and shower facilities were poor, only 3 toilets and 3 showers for the whole site that were unisex they were like portable toilets and after a shower filled with water so difficult to dress in a dry area , If you want to clean your teeth you need to use the small sink next to the toilet as no basins within the showers., with no facilities to dry hands after using the toilet. Also the area became wet and dirty.” disgusting”. Only one dish wash sink , we didn’t find the grey water area and the chemical toilet facilities was very poor. For the price we have paid it’s poor compared to the others we have stayed at .

The Clansman Centre in Fort Augustus offers an immersive experience dedicated to 17th-century Highland traditions. Visitors can witness demonstrations, explore a crafts shop, and gain insight into the history of the Highlanders. The center is also conveniently located along the Great Glen Way, a 79-mile trail across Scotland, making it an ideal stop for hikers and cyclists. Guests praise the informative talks about the Highlander history and commend Anthony, who runs the theater, for his passionate and entertaining presentations.
We had a wonderful experience at this lovely local gift shop near at Loch ness. The service was outstanding — friendly, welcoming, and genuinely caring. Thank you for making us feel so valued and for going above and beyond. Highly recommended!
Mete V — Google review
Such a rude guy in the Centre and instead of explaining how the Clan worked and how the Tartans all changed and distinguished for each event he told me I didn't belong to that clan and that there was no blood line. And that may be true but no more truer than carrying the family name for years and belonging to a culture and heritage of the lands where my people came from in the late 1700's to early 1800's from the Highland Clearances. Told the next person the same story. Very moody individual.

Very informative talk about the history of the Highlanders. Really great to be able to visualise the accomodation, clothing and weapons of the clansman and gain a greater understanding of their way of life and ultimately the terrible demise of the Clanway due to the British government. Our host, Anthony, was very passionate about the subject, open to answering all questions and had a great sense of humour. Thank you for dressing us up and taking us back in time! Morag's Lodge

Hostel
Morag's Lodge is a relaxed hostel located in Fort Augustus, offering simple dorms and private rooms. The upscale hostel provides a bar, guest kitchen, free parking, and amenities such as complimentary wireless internet access and tour/ticket assistance. Guests can enjoy the views from the garden and make use of features like a vending machine and bike storage. The rooms are clean and cozy with comfortable beds.
Stayed here for the night while doing the Great Glen Way and I can highly recommend this place. It's conveniently located on the Way itself so you don't have to take a major detour just to get there. They offer rooms of 4- and 6-beds so be aware that you will most likely share a room as there aren't that many in the place, but you can also book the whole room to yourself as you pay per bed. It's an old house converted to a lodge so with that in mind, I would also suggest booking the place in advance to be sure that there will be spaces when you get here. The staff were great, there was only 2 of them when we stayed and they had to cover everything from reception, to bar, to laundry services, but they were managing great. Amenities wise, there is a small bar with some fizzy drinks and a few local beers so it's a modest selection but should cover all your needs. There is a shared kitchen that is open 24/7 with all sorts of appliances and utensils so you should be able to cook for yourself no problem; however, they do also offer dinner and breakfast if you are interested, but I haven't tried them so can't comment on that. The place also offers laundry service for £6 (at the time of visit) and it's quite good, 3 of us managed to get our clothes washed and dried for the morning after leaving them the night before so it's a quick turnaround, which is exactly what you need for a walk. The beds are comfortable and the showers are good, though nothing spectacular but well worth it. I highly recommend this place for a stay if you are travelling and need to stay somewhere in the area.
Aleksandar K — Google review
Quite disappointing to be honest, the service was great but the sheets were very obviously not clean at all. Left a greasy feel on both me and my partners hands which was disgusting, then to add to it made me feel extremely greasy after just washing and getting into bed, to then wake up to my hair being already greasy from the pillows! As a highly autistic person I dont stay in hotels or hostels much and this is particularly why, the cleanliness. I understand it is a hostel but clean bedding should be non negotiable and a given. The room had a disgusting smell, it smelt moldy and borderline meaty, not to mention the stains on the carpet. They didnt mention anything about heating and hot water being turned off either. The bar was still open at 12 and probably well after, when licensing hours are 11 if im not mistaken. If so, there was a ton of alcohol on the table and people who didnt look over the age of 16 drunk and singing loudly. Tried looking for help and got a blank stare through the window from the bartender? I was too uncomfortable going in so couldnt ask anything further. Not to mention, the doors dont lock!!!! Never felt more unsafe before figuring out that the key cards dont do anything to unlock the door, the inside "ock" is bypassed when the door handle goes down!!??
Zara L — Google review
The breakfast is really very good at a democratic price. Good soundproofing of the rooms. The small negative points are that the bath towels are not provided and that it is very hot in the rooms We went there in September.
Fanny F — Google review
It’s a hostel, so don’t expect luxury. However the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are warm and clean. There is a very effective, but tiny, drying room. There is a bar and a limited selection of evening meals are available. There is a breakfast in the morning with cereals, fruit, hot drinks, toast and boiled eggs.
Colin C — Google review
Decent hostel. Good guest areas with lounge and kitchen area. Small bar and evening meals which was very handy. Decent breakfast available as well. Also had secure bike storage which was good.
Vince L — Google review
Its a hostel and works fine for that. Comfortable beds and rooms clean. Self catering in communal kitchen or limited dinner and breakfast menu. Good value!

Right on the Great Glen Way. Very comfortable beds and rooms. Self catering kitchen and dining room is probably too small for the size of the hostel, but it wasn't a major problem

Fast food restaurant
Nestled by the picturesque canal, Canalside Fish & Chip Shop is a charming takeaway spot that specializes in delicious fish and chips. This small eatery doesn't have tables inside, but it offers picnic tables outside for those lucky enough to enjoy their meal al fresco—weather permitting! Each order is freshly prepared, ensuring you receive warm and crispy battered fish alongside traditional Scottish haggis and black pudding. The friendly staff are dedicated to providing excellent service, even accommodating late orders after closing time.
Seems like this place has changed the name a few times. Ramo's is off the sign. Doesn't matter. We had delicious fish and chips, condiments, and sat along the canal and enjoyed our meal. Perfect, and 8 British pounds cheaper than others there.
Paul L — Google review
I think the low scores are a bit unfair. The fish and chips are reasonably priced at £10.90 and portion was huge. Service was fine. He's a bit overseen with the salt but not really an issue.
Lorraine K — Google review
A super nice man and the best food. We're traveling through England and Scotland, and this shop is a real insider tip for us! The price is cheaper than any other, and you get a large portion. We had fish and haggis. Both were delicious! We'll be dreaming about the haggis tonight. I hope we get to enjoy it like this again. We send our best regards and say thank you! Dankeschön 😁

Big portions, priced reasonably, we went for the fish and chips and could barely finish our plates. Feels fresh and good quality. Nice seating area by the canal.

Absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended. Little canalside takeaway about 100 yards up side of the canal from the main road. Before going anywhere else, try this place you wont be disappointed. The fish we order was a gorgeous thick piece and very tasty. Super friendly owner. Get yourselves down to this shop.
Simon W — Google review
Very hostile and uncomfortable atmosphere. The man working there was very rude, unwelcoming and became extremely aggressive towards me when I asked very reasonable questions about the menu. It was an all around awful experience. I am very grateful that I didn’t end up eating here. There are many restaurants down the street with much kinder staff and a more welcoming environment, you are way better off going to one of those places!
Mariyah J — Google review
Thank you for sharing your special way of preparing fish with us. It was a delicious post hike / pre dinner treat.
Jlp T — Google review
Located at the end of the boardwalk from the loch where the cruise docks, this hidden gem exceeded my expectations. Despite there being just one gentleman handling the orders, cooking, and cashiering, the service was surprisingly fast and efficient. The fish and chips were perfect—not too oily and cooked to perfection, with a nice crispiness instead of soggy batter. Sitting outside was such a calming experience, with the gentle breeze adding to the overall charm. Highly recommend this spot for a relaxing meal! They accept cash and credit card.

Restaurant
The Boathouse Restaurant is a charming eatery located in the abbey grounds of The Highland Club, offering a mix of Scottish and Mediterranean comfort food. Situated by the lochside, it provides a relaxed dining experience with an adjacent garden. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes such as Monster Fish and Chips, Kuzu guvec chicken kabobs, and succulent Highland Club sucuk sausage.
Initially we didn’t choose to eat here but finding ourselves stuck in Fort Augustus for the night (there are worse places to be stuck!) we called and booked a table. The restaurant which we thought was in the main centre of Fort Augustus was actually a short walk round the canal path to our surprise with the most beautiful location on the banks of the loch. The service was excellent and the food was delicious with a great mix of traditional and Turkish dishes. We would definitely visit again. It was very busy so I’d recommend booking

Fantastic view of LochNess and superb outside seating. We chitchat with owner Ramazan who is experienced and running the place over 15 years. Also met with kitchen team and chefs that all was very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Easily the worst food I’ve had since the 80s. I’ve watched plenty of Gordon Ramseys kitchen nightmares and often thought, there’s no way one bite of food can genuinely make you feel like you are going to vomit. Today I stand corrected. However if microwaved children’s meals reminiscing school dinners at a low funded state school are what you’re after then this is your place. You’ll also get to look through dirty windows at spiders making webs while attempting to see past them to the loch
Prime M — Google review
This restaurant is right by Loch Ness, offering a magnificent view of the lake. The car park is a bit tricky to find, as it’s located inside a gated area. The food is average, but the view more than made up for it and made our visit worthwhile.

Excellent location at the end of Loch Ness. Food was tasty but could be better. Service good but could be a bit more refined. Toilets could do with a bit of attention.

The Boathouse is a Turkish Mediterranean restaurant with a stunning view of Loch Ness and food that is truly delicious. I recommend trying the sucuk which is a little spicy but a must for anyone who enjoys bold flavors. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming which makes the experience memorable. From my humble view the Lochness sign outside feels a bit cheap and could be improved to match the quality of the place but overall it is an excellent stop and highly recommended

Went here for a quick lunch while on a tour. I asked the waiter if the halloumi has flour on it, as I’m gluten free. He told me he didn’t know and it came in a packet. There was no offer to check anything or ask someone, he just shrugged and threw his hands up. I ended up just getting a drink and not eating anything. If you are going to list on your menu to please notify staff if you have an allergen, then your staff need to be educated in it. I had no confidence that I was going to be able to eat safely.

By far the best holiday accommodation I have stayed in. The apartments are spacious, exceptionally clean and furnished to a high standard. Additionally, Abbey Holidays’ apartments within the Highland Club are well positioned to take advantage of the building’s exquisite architecture and beautiful scenery. The Highland Club is an ideal base for exploring many of the beautiful areas around the west coast of Scotland whilst the excellent onsite facilities (pool, sauna, and snooker room) provide an excellent place to relax in the evening. Our hosts were friendly and happy to help in anyway they can. I cannot recommend staying here enough.

They even provide detergent for the washing machine and tablets for the dishwasher! There was a surprise awaiting in the apartment—wine and cookies. There’s also tea, coffee, sugar, salt, and cooking oil. We were warmly welcomed and given a tour of the entire abbey! It’s a truly magical place. There are no lifts in this historic building (we’ll pack lighter next time). We were absolutely delighted with our stay!

The shop's unique appeal lies in its authentic craftsmanship and the opportunity to witness the art of glassblowing up close.
Now this is a unique gift to bring home. Located in Fort Augustus, this charming little glass blowing shop was amazing. Visiting this shop is not merely shopping but an experience watching glass blowing and creative art. Iceberg Glass Blowing Shop had a live glassblowing demonstration. Watching the skilled artists transform molten glass into exquisite works of art like jewelry is amazing. I’m obsessed. The staff at the shop are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their work. They are eager to share the history and techniques of glassblowing, answering any questions. I bought my mom the cutest earrings. Loved this!

Wonderful little shop. So nice to watch them work. Bought a tiny, precious mushroom pendant last Spring that I adore and wear every day. Also bought a stunning, red twisty ornament that looked amazing on my tree this year.

Really lovely shop with beautiful glass items. The friendly lady was even making new pieces while I was browsing, which was fascinating to watch. I love the things I bought and the fact that they were locally made! Thank you!♥️♥️♥️

Waiting for our Chinese I popped into this lovely shop for something different for a gift. The lady inn the shop was most helpful and friendly and I came away with a stunning gift.

Very cool place, could have bought three times as much as I did. A bit of a breath of fresh air amongst all the generic souvenir shops. There’s special glasses to wear so you can watch glass being blown in store, apparently the mini nessies are the most popular :)

A lovely wee gem of a shop. If in the area or passing through I highly recommend you stop by, especially if looking for an alternative to the usual gifts. Very friendly and the glass ornaments are mostly all made there. Some were being made when we stopped in. Some amazing and unique pieces. Got quote a few things. 🙂

Wonderful little shop owned by lovely people. Would definitely recommend dropping by for very reasonably priced souvenirs, and even if you're not in the mood to buy anything, watching the skilled glassmakers work their craft is mesmerising in its own right. Five stars.

Ice cream shop
Miele's Gelateria is a delightful haven for anyone with a sweet tooth, offering an impressive array of traditional Italian gelato flavors alongside tempting treats like waffles, doughnuts, and cakes. Located in Scotland, this gem serves up ice cream that closely resembles authentic gelato, featuring rich textures and unique flavors such as the delectable Ferrero Rocher. Guests rave about the freshly made waffles paired with their favorite scoops; the cherry ripple stands out for its subtle yet satisfying taste.
Lovely freshly made waffles with a great selection of ice creams to choose from. I had the cherry ripple, it was delicious, with a subtle cherry taste rather than an overpowering one.

A lovely first time experience, staff were very friendly. We were indecisive flavours wise, but the lady who served us allowed us to try the gelato flavours. We went for Mango & Strawberry and Mint Chocolate chip & and Vanilla!! 👌🏼 Can’t complain on the size of the scoops they were just right. We will definitely be returning here ☺️

The ice cream here is very close to gelato, which is rare in Scotland. The texture of the diary free chocolate I tried was intense and not too sweet. It can be a wee bit softer to be a truly gelato.

Really nice ice cream and felt safe for coeliacs. Staff knew which flavours were gluten free, were happy to change gloves and scoops. I asked them to get scoops from the front of the tub where no scoops had been taken before. I think they would take scoops from fresh tubs if you asked.

The Inch Hotel is a charming country lodge located in Fort Augustus, offering a mix of modern and traditional rooms for guests. The hotel features a cozy lounge bar and a restaurant where visitors can enjoy Scottish cuisine. Situated near various dining options, including The Lock Inn and The Moorings Restaurant, guests have plenty of choices for meals. Additionally, the hotel is close to attractions such as the Iceberg Glassblowing Studio, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.
Food at the restaurant is good although a bit pricey. The breakfast was great and included ! As per the rooms, they were a bit outdated. The manager and all the staff were amazing, they were really nice, helpful and always up for a good laugh.

Good hotel but not worth the high rate = expected a lot more for what we paid. The room was good, as was breakfast. Fort August & its pubs/restaurants are a short & nice15 minute walk.

We had a pleasant stay at The Inch Hotel – the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location overlooking Loch Ness is simply stunning. A special shout-out to Mukesh Kumawat in the restaurant who was incredibly attentive and made our meals more enjoyable with his warm service. The Scottish breakfast, while neat and well-presented, was just about average—nothing extraordinary. One minor drawback: the rooms felt a bit stuffy in the summer heat and could benefit from better ventilation. Overall, it’s a lovely historic lodge with great staff, beautiful views, and a tidy stay—just wish the rooms were a little fresher.

gorgeous building, in stunning location, views over Loch Ness are splendid . very pleasant staff. breakfast ok but could be more generous. rooms need updated, freshened up a bit but overall a pleasant stay apart from the radiator needing bled of air, not ideal in cooler weather.

An older manor hotel, located about 20 mins walk from Fort Augustus . We had a room on the third floor with no view , comfortable but with a shower over a bath needing a bath mat as very slippery and with very little water pressure. No lift so carrying heavy bags for older people in our group was an issue. Full menu - which our group did not have - looked good . Our groups restricted menu was very average and did not cater from our vegetarian member. 2 nights accomodation with no servicing of our room - older tired hotel- dont stay more than one night - if at all. Not a Scottish experience.

5 star service, the staff go over and above to make you feel comfortable and work around the clock, bed was so comfortable and the Scottish breakfast was a winner for us, beautiful views of the loch and a short drive for you are able to go kayaking or paddle boarding. Shops a short 2 minute drive in Fort Augustus.

Decent stay at the Inch hotel. As expected from a 3-star hotel. Pros :) - comes with full Scottish breakfast the next days and buffet area has a selection of juice and pastries - room is spacious and neat/clean (just be aware the vibe is vintage so carpet and things maybe look dated) - staff very friendly and polite, helpful! - hotel has lovely view of Loch Ness, 5 mins drive to Fort Augustus (not suggested to walk for 20 mins) - comes with amenities such as body wash and shampoo, however no toothbrush toothpaste or slippers - free parking space outside the hotel Cons :( - walls are thin, so noises along the corridor are very annoying especially at night - doesn’t come with toothbrush or toothpaste nor slippers in the room - water pressure in the shower is inconsistent, so is the hot water supply - sometimes is hot sometimes is cold - maybe not convenient for everyone as most rooms are on 1/F so require to walk up the stairs with luggages if any

The Inch is officially categorised as a 3* hotel. I give them 5* on their performance in that particular football division. Firstly beautiful location and views (for sure from some rooms and of course the public rooms). Also kerb appeal, old traditional building near the loch. Also, old style service from a smart suited concierge. Breakfast and dinner were good. This is not a 'bling' place but a 3* hotel keen on raising their game. We had a room at the back. No loch views but great skylights with views of woodlands. It was quite large and indeed a very large bathroom with skylight. Our experience was very good here.
