Cocoa Mountain Dornoch is a must-visit spot in Dornoch for those with a sweet tooth. With a great selection of cakes and chocolates, it's the perfect place to indulge and take home some delicious treats as souvenirs. The cafe offers superb hot chocolates made with oat and regular milk, along with other hot drinks. Visitors can also enjoy yummy treats like croissants and brownies.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stop at Cocoa Mountain Dornoch. We'd heard good things from family and read the fantastic reviews. My wife and son loved their hot chocolate, while I had an excellent latte. We all had a white chocolate and toffee croissant which was incredible (so much so I forgot to take pictures). Well worth a visit.

The best hot chocolate....a lovely place to visit and walk around locals selling homemade cakes and pies also. always good to spend to support the locals ...and come home with a hand made gift . Arrive early and walk straight in...after noon gets very busy . Parking limited ....Park down the road and walk up it's only a short walk with many things to see along the way .

Lovely Hot chocolate made with both milk and white chocolate, no marshmallows or anything extra fancy, £5 ish for the hot choc . £1.40 for 1 chocolate . Seemed pricey. Combo deal for hot drink and 4 chocolates wasn't too bad. Service wasn't great, no staff presence at the counter to greet you, they were chatting out back, stood a few minutes before I saw the bell and moved across and pressed it, saw several other visitors have the same experience. Overall nothing special Disappointed after the rave review in the NC500 book

Lovely Staff, Lovely Cappuccino and really tasty Truffles. The truffles melt in your mouth and taste so good. I highly recommend. Brilliant place to go to if in Dornoch Must go to in Dornoch, Best Coffee Shop In Dornoch Went Here for My Birthday Had the Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows and whipped cream. The Hot Chocolate is made with Belgium chocolate and is absolutely Delicious. So so Tasty. I highly recommend also they do Coffees and Hot chocolates for Vegans and offer oat milk etc. it's Dog friendly which is nice as with hot weather like today 24 degrees it's nice to have something and be able to have the dog with you. I had also a white chocolate and caramel Croissant and omg the more you ate it the nicer and nicer it got. It smelled amazing and tasted even better it's just a few hours after being in and I'm still thinking about how amazing my croissant and hot chocolate was. Staff friendly as well. Definitely a highlight of Dornoch and a must go to when in

Lovely friendly service. Oh that Hot Chocolate was AMAZING! The wee chocolates were also very tasty. I highly recommend this establishment.
Alan B — Google review
Delicious cocoa but very rich, it settles quickly so it is important to stir as you drink or risk the "dirty dishwater" experience.tje selection of chocolates is impressive too. Have a "Chocolate Chaser" you won't regret it (unless you don't keep stirring)
Charles R — Google review
Hot chocolates were as good as highly recommended, chocolatey but not too sweet. Cookies were good but I prefer a crunch 😂, our son loved the brownie tho. Definitely worth trying ❤️

This hidden gem, Greens Restaurant Dornoch, pleasantly surprised customers who stumbled upon it while exploring the streets. With a unique setting in an old courthouse, the atmosphere was enhanced and added to the overall experience. The food offered delicious options, particularly the mussels and steaks which received high praise. The staff were incredibly friendly and made patrons feel welcome throughout their visit.
Friendly and professional staff. Food of an excellent standard. We had a delicious steak and a perfectly cooked chicken breast, so tender and juicy. Highly recommend this establishment for a visit 5 stars from us.
Jill Y — Google review
We were very pleasantly surprised dining at Green's. We'd no idea what to expect as we usually like to pick a place out of a hat & travel in the area we're staying in, and today was Green's turn. The restaurant is upstairs in an old converted courthouse. Very stylish & modern & in honesty we felt a little out of place, but it's not a shirt & tie gig, just very polished & upmarket. The staff were very on point and attentive, especially the floor manager whose name we didn't catch. My one & only gripe with Green's is the meal sizes. I ordered the salmon and this was a mains that may well have been better offered as a starter, such was the size of the offering. BUT, no huge complaint. This was definitely the higher end of what we would ideally pay fir an evening meal & this was a one way ticket for us, but it will suit many folk who like their dining intimate & attended to. Lovely place, lovely people.
Christian H — Google review
It is a historical restaurant in an old courthouse upstairs. The service is excellent ,especially the gentleman who made us feel extremely welcome and asked where we were from. His attention to detail is second to none. The food here was nice, but one course isn't enough to fill you so I'd recommend ordering a starter and dessert if you're hungry as the starters are bigger than the mains. Desserts are delicious, though. It is a high-end restaurant with prices to match but nice for a once in a while treat.
Sarah S — Google review
What a beautiful restaurant. The food was truly the best I've had in a long time. The lobster was so fresh and cooked to perfection. The service was excellent aswell. Highly recommend anyone to try here and can't wait to return.

My wife and I celebrated 5 years in Scotland (first time visit) and our anniversary fell on the leg we spent in Dornoch at the Castle Hotel. Our first night we went to Greens and had an amazing meal and incredible service. We required gluten free food free from cross contamination and they were astonishingly accommodating with their entire menu, right down to their desserts (decadent, delicious, fresh). We loved our experience so much that we went back 2 nights later for our actual anniversary dinner. The front of house manager recognized us immediately and was so welcoming and was just as warm and friendly the second time around. Anytime we make a return trip to Scotland in the future, Greens will absolutely be on our itinerary! Added note: the £30-40 per person was both trips and included 1 drink, 1 entree, and 1 dessert, which I believe to be more than reasonable.

Nice place to eat out. Same menu for evening as it is through the day. We had steaks which were great, sides need to be ordered too. Only downside was four dry oatcakes on the cheeseboard were a bit hard going. Other than that I would recommend to eat here. Nice atmosphere and great decor.

Went here with my husband, teenage son and our 2 friends for lunch. All covid measures in place, felt very safe. Lovely, friendly helpful staff. Great service. Good selection on menu. You can have the entrees as a tapas selection if you wish which my friend did. The rest of us had entrees just as a starter, all delicious and well flavoured! 3 if us had the beef burger and I had a chicken burger, all of us loved the flavours! Really great and hope to return when visiting Dornoch again.

SandStone Cafe is a charming spot located near Dornoch Cathedral, offering a delightful selection of fresh and tasty food, along with hot and cold drinks. The cafe is praised for its friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal stop throughout the year. Visitors have enjoyed various menu items such as paninis, chips, haggis dishes, apple pie with custard, and Christmas tree cookies. The cafe's service has been described as superb with generous portions at reasonable prices.

Good coffee, bakes and ice cream. Quiet and comfortable. Even better, they looked after my rucksack after I walked off without it = 1000 thanks for that! 😍

Tea served in a teapot as it should be and a good latte. The raspberry and white chocolate bread pudding was served hot with ice cream and was just wonderful. We've never had anything like it before. Delicious! Incidentally, although we didn't have them, we noticed that the chocolate truffles at the Dornoch Patisserie and Cafe are twice the size of those served at the Courthouse, so you get far more for your money!
Sam P — Google review
£11 for 2 undercooked bacon rolls & a can of warm Diet Coke. Very disappointed as the cafe looked good and seemed popular. Managed 2 bites of the first roll before deciding to leave them on the table. Apparently they can’t do crispy bacon as they do it in an oven?… but these tasted completely undercooked. The other food looked decent enough, they just shouldn’t be offering breakfast rolls if they don’t have the facilities to cook them properly.

Cafe
"Milk & Honey" is a popular tourist spot with a bustling front of house. While the service can be a bit chaotic, the food is tasty and well-presented. The lunch menu may not offer the best value for money, but the haggis toastie and cream of cauliflower soup make for an excellent meal deal. Despite being busy, the turnover is efficient and there are no rushed vibes. The full Scottish breakfast with hot spiced milk & honey is beautifully presented and delicious.
We tried this place for lunch on a Friday in September. We got lucky that there was an open table, within a few mins, there was small queue for tables. The staff were lovely and very friendly (to both those who clearly visit on a very regular basis and those of us who had never been in before). Despite being busy, we didn’t feel rushed and weren’t kept waiting for too long either. I had the most delicious milk/honey/spice/coffee drink, I’ve never had anything like it before but it was soooo good. It was also refreshingly wonderful to actually see a nice selection of veggie and pescatarian dishes on the menu. I had a goats cheese tart which was really light and fluffy and so flavourful finished with one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had, so rich and creamy. Definitely need to head back soon
Kimberlie T — Google review
A small restaurant with limited seating but delicious breakfast, lunch and dessert options. Did I mention the delicious hot drinks too? Walk-in only but expect it to be busy. We enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches.
S S — Google review
I would have loved to have given Milk & Honey all 5 stars. My lunch was beautiful, coffee just perfect and all staff polite, helpful and friendly. The cafe itself looked lovely inside with a warm cosy atmosphere. I had my dog with me (the lovely chef bought her two sausages which she loved) which they don't allow inside (I've no problem with this) so I was shown to seating out the back. I was expecting a pretty courtyard of sorts but instead felt like I was being put out with the ruffians and shown a wonky table and chairs on wonky paving where the staff take breaks and you hear all the chatter of the work crew. (I'm not insinuating the staff are ruffians by any means, they are quite the opposite). The only view was of the back kitchen door and a fence. The prices would have reflected the comfort of inside as all prices should reflect a restaurateurs interior. Given my lack of warm cosy comfort, a wee discount would have been a lovely gesture. Go to Milk & Honey by all means, it's lovely. Just don't go with your dog.
Sonja C — Google review
Marvelous breakfast. There may be a wait during peak times, but they will fix you up with a coffee and a bench seat with a lovely view. The food and service are so worth it!

We were able to visit Milk & Honey twice, during our short stay at Dornoch, for breakfast and lunch. The food here is delicious, and of a very high quality. There is a good selection on the menu, and there is also a fantastic selection of cakes. The staff were also great. If visiting Dornoch, a trip to Milk & Honey won't disappoint. Well Done to the whole team. We loved it.
Louise M — Google review
My family and I dropped by when we were in Dornoch in early June 2025. Having had a full breakfast in the morning, we wanted only homemade soups and coffees. We had the soups of the day - the mushroom and leek&potato soup. The soups were smooth, well-ground and aromatic - hallmarks of a good homemade soup. The mushroom soup with the cheese scone slightly edging out the leek and potato for taste. The beef and chicken toasties were appetising too. We enjoyed a couple of cappuccinos, and a cortado. The barista's artistic touch of creating a small figure design of a midge on the cappuccino was a brilliant stroke of creativity.
Kok L — Google review
A busy brunch place with a great varied menu, I had the goat's cheese and red pepper bagel and it was lovely, the salad and coleslaw with it were really nice. The café is really nicely decorated, modern but homey. The staff are attentive and the food is served really quick. All ages were eating here, but the specials are likely to go fast! Highly recommend for breakfast or lunch here in Dornoch.

The Coach House Bar & Restaurant is a highly recommended establishment that warmly welcomes dogs. The bartender goes above and beyond, constantly providing treats for our furry friends. The pub itself is frequented by locals and offers great service at reasonable prices. The food is superbly prepared and presented to a high standard, satisfying even the pickiest of eaters. It's a fantastic spot for a date night or just a casual visit.
Fantastic little place, waitress was so welcoming and was a lovely wee date night on our trip. Food was incredible and to a high standard whilst being very well presented, we loved every bit. A horrendous experience with the staff and chef at this restaurant. This place was recommended to us by another business in the town, as we where visiting the town for the day. It was only serving THE CALVARY DINNER, when we told to attend the very very small buffet with chef carving the.meats. As I approached I asked for a slice of the 4 meats, as chef sliced the pork it was half a slice , I asked for a little touch more, with absolutely no acknowledgement from chef, he moved in to cut a slice of the beef and splashed me with the fat all over my jumper. I was appuauled at the lack of acknowledgement from chef , no apology, he looked at me with disgust. I relayed my issue to the waitress what happened and again absolutely no response or apology, it was disgusting service . Still no acknowledgement from chef , I was lucky I was very a jumper, otherwise it would have been a different story . Please don't waste your money, I am astonished how businesses accept this level of customer service.

Had Sunday Carvery here today. It was absolutely excellent, everything cooked to perfection! Staff friendly and attentive, restaurant clean, airy with nice views and the food..... the best we've had in Scotland. Make sure you book! Thank you
Phil R — Google review
I really want to like this place. The food was great when it eventually arrived. We got in quite late an a Sunday afternoon, about 2 pm and they were not busy. Sadly, however, we had to wait and wait and wait with no explanation until very late, that the cook was busy making more gravy. The kids meals came out before the main carvery was available and that was ok. Still, as can be seen in the photo,⅓of the plate was salad.....what 6yr old likes that? When the food was eventually ready, the attitude of the server was rather negative. I had to ask a few times, just for ketchup as it was forgotten by 2 waitresses.By the time we were finished, we decided to skip desert even though it was a part of the kids meal...just because we had already been waiting too long. So overall, while the food was great, the overall experience felt strained and negative and I think it will be a while before we try this place again.

I ordered steak pie last night and on recommendation from a friend expected a homemade pie. Instead of which for £18.95 I got a heated up, bought in pie with very sad chips and broccoli so hard I had to pick it up to eat the florets as I couldn't cut it. I normally would have complained but I was in a large group, one of whom had recommended it, plus we had waited absolutely ages for it as there was no staff in the kitchen and I was hungry 🙄 just don't, very poor all round.

Chris W — Google review
The food was amazing; the chap serving the food was spot on. The girls running the tables were not so attentive. We were shown to our table and not once informed that we could order the carvery, so we waited a while before being told by another table. Then we had to wait a long time to pay before heading to the bar and paying. We would definitely visit again.

Royal Dornoch Golf Club is a stunning and expansive golf club that offers multiple courses, practice facilities, and a clubhouse overlooking the sea. The course provides breathtaking views of the Moray Firth coastline, making it a picturesque location for a round of golf. The Foxy (14th hole) stands out as one of the best holes with its challenging against-the-wind play. Despite its difficulty, the course is well-maintained and offers beautiful scenery on every hole.
Amazing golf course, in pristine condition. The views anywhere around the course are amazing. Stay out the gorse bushes and it's a very enjoyable course. New club house looks like it's nearly finished but hope the staff in the new clubhouse are a bit more welcoming and friendly. Pro shop staff friendly and helpful. Would recommend this course to anyone that hasn't been to definitely come and play it.

Royal Dornoch feels like sacred ground. Remote, pure, and breathtaking from start to finish. The turf is firm, the greens are true, and the views over the Dornoch Firth are unforgettable. It rewards good golf and punishes the lazy. A soulful, timeless links experience.
MAX K — Google review
We booked it for dog friendly , the hotel is old as it’s an old building. The restaurant looks over the golf course and ocean which is outstanding. The food is excellent. Dornoch is beautiful town. The only thing we would have preferred is a ground floor with a dog and flooring that can be cleaned. The carpet is very stained and is on floor 2 . It would be more hygienic for hard flooring not carpet
Alyson A — Google review
Great course. Very hard when its windy though and I felt some of the holes were a bit to fiddly. This is a traditional links course with very tough greens and surrounds. I preferred Castle Stuart. Yes, this is a proper test of golf with some amazing holes, but I found the layout to be a bit simular on a lot of holes. I know a purist links golfer will say thats what its all about when playing links golf, but from my opinion I prefer individual holes and having that seclusion on each hole. If that makes sense. The practice facilities were also lacking. With 2 nets to hit some balls. The clubhouse was old and a bit tired in places. I wasnt that impressed with the food either. Prices in the Pro shop were ridiculous.

Dornoch Castle Whisky Bar & Bistro is a hotel with traditional rooms, some offering sea views. Guests have praised the comfortable beds and lovely bedding in Room 12, as well as the perfect breakfast. The bar with an open fire was described as very welcoming. The bistro offers fabulous food with fantastic service from young staff, although some found it expensive compared to top quality restaurants in Edinburgh.
Whatta special place, everything was absolutely spot on. Service staff were friendly and efficient, food was absolutely delicious with nice touches. We sat outside as we had a pooch with us and several bowls of water were available to take to your table for the waggy friends. Vegan cheese available for the pizzas too... go on - treat yourself 😊 bill for 2 lunches with sides and a glass of wine was £50.. i would have paid more, it was so good!

Food was very good but doesn’t match the top quality restaurants in Edinburgh that charge the same money. We had the smoked pigeon and macaroni and crab for starters and then Hake for me and Halibut for Adele. The flavour was great and the meal filling. We shared a cheese board of local cheese which was excellent.

Just popped in to try a couple of whiskies before dinner. Lucky to get the final 2 seats in the bar (around 7pm time) Not being a whisky drinker we asked for advice and the bar man said he always recommends the local ones as not only are they good but they're also small batch. We took his advice and had a dram each of a bottle that had dolphins on the label from the Thompson Bros Distillery (just next door) we had it straight up (the horror on his face when we asked for one ice cube :) )it was really very good.  A slight burn of the throat but extremely smooth. We had time to try another, this time I asked to try a speyside. I smelt it and it was almost sherry smelling. 11 year Glenallachie. This was nice but i preferred the first one. The cost of each dram was £5 the price varies obviously depending on  what you pick. Cosy atmosphere in the bar area wide choice of other drinks too and an outside space.

Excellent lunch and great eminence! You can choose to sit indoor or outdoor, which was super nice on a sunny day. Truffled macaroni was our favorite starter. Our favorite main course was the pork 2 ways.

Fabulous food in a room overlooking the castle garden with fantastic service from the young staff , I had the monkfish with purple potatoes and greens and it was excellent served with a really good Malbec , it is expensive but you pay for the food and presentation , background music which was quite contemporary was a bit jarring for the castle environment and upmarket status but maybe it was just me. The bar in the depths of the castle is fantastic , a well-stocked bar with large comfortable sofas round a huge wood burning fire was just what was needed after a long day , was the only place we went back to in our 4 days in Dornoch because we liked it so much.

We booked Mara for a last night dinner in Dornoch and it has been our very favorite dinner of the trip, maybe even top 5 ever together. The place is beautiful and the service is fantastic! The food was absolutely incredible- simple, but elevated and delicious! We had the beef, potatoes and ceasar, along with the apple cranachan for dessert! Everything was 10/10! If we were staying longer, I would book here again!

A beautiful stay in Links House Hotel, or first stop in the Highlands. Whilst the house and room were immaculate and beautiful. The team, service & food were outstanding. One of my favourite ever stays in the UK. Highly recommend if you are on the C500 as a perfect start to the trip

We had a great stay here. It‘s rare to get historic buildings like this hotel in such perfect condition. The service was great, especially during breakfast. Dinner was incredible as well. The location is right between golf course, beach and town centre so everything is walkable from here. We will definitely return.

Best hotel ever! Cannot recommend enough - the staff were so thoughtful and the whole experience had a personal touch. Best hotel we've been to in Scotland and the location was spectacular. Highly highly recommend!

Our stay at Links House was absolutely amazing. Everything was perfect, from the beautifully kept rooms to the incredible food at Mara restaurant. The staff went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome and taken care of. It’s clear they pay attention to every little detail—truly one of the best experiences we’ve ever had!

Restaurant
Luigi is a popular dining spot along the NC500 tour, known for its great atmosphere and excellent service. The menu offers a variety of options, including delicious starters like pork belly with parsnip and piccalilli. The mains, such as Linguine with Scallops, prawns Chilli and garlic, are described as tremendous. Visitors also praise the mussels for their size and juiciness. Despite some road works nearby during one visit, the accommodating staff made the experience enjoyable.
We've been coming here for over a decade whenever we're in the Dornoch area. It remains excellent. Loved the Lobster Thermidor this time. Always spoilt for choice with the desserts and cakes. Relaxed but attentive service as ever. Pristine decor and cleanliness.

Luigis was recommended to me by 2 work colleagues. 1 of them said, 'Sarah, don't write a bad review.' I don't. I just write truthful reviews. How could I write a bad review when the service was really quick. They came with a cold bottle of water & 2 glasses to us when we sat down. I thought this was a really nice personal touch. The food was very pleasing to the eye & as you eat with your eyes before tasting the food, it was great, & very tasty. I had the tempura prawn salad & Tonka bean crème brulee with summer berries. The tempura prawns were very delicately cooked, salad had different lettuce leaves chopped up. There was a sweet flavour to the dressing. Creme brulee was lovely soft & creamy with a crispy top. Don't know what the Tonka bean was. Dad had the lobster thermidor, which he had never had before & it was lovely. Followed by ice-cream.

Really nice restaurant with a brilliant menu and great service. I had the mussels and half lobster thermodor. They were both excellent especially the lobster. It's probably worth booking before you go as it was busy even on a Tuesday night.

Wow! The best Pizza I've had in a long time (make sure to add the honey chilli) 🍯 🌶 Everything else was amazing, too. The service was great and the surroundings were comfortable. Highly recommend!

Sat outside on a September evening enjoying some fantastic food here. We were well looked after by Chris who always has a chat with everybody, but have to say the food is pretty damn good. Book in advance, very popular place!

Some of the best food I've eaten in years, good portion sizes and well worth the price. Staff were incredible, welcoming and accommodating. The atmosphere was warm and tidy, very comfortable.

Called by for unch today as a holiday treat as I'd read good reviews, I certainly wasn't disappointed !! Mackerel Pate starter, big serving, followed by Prawn, chorizo linguine, little bit of kick but palatable.thoroughly enjoyed both. Sat outside for my latte, i went in to pay & said they'd forgot I was there as was about to close up I think 🤔 🤣🍽🍷 Friendly staff, tastefully decorated, best meal of my holiday 🌟 🤩

I was extremely disappointed with the front-of-house service. Upon arriving and asking for a table for two, I was bluntly greeted with just the word “no.” After a long pause, the response was repeated as “no, too busy” — without so much as a smile, an apology, or any courtesy. Such a dismissive attitude is unacceptable and left a very poor impression before I even had the chance to dine.
