Bakery
The Cromarty Bakery is a charming family-owned bakery located in the heart of Cromarty. They are renowned for their delectable range of freshly baked goods, including bread, cakes, pies, and pastries made with high-quality ingredients. Visitors can also indulge in takeaway coffee while savoring the tempting selection of treats.
Possibly the best bakery in the Highlands or Scotland for that matter. Cromarty pasties delicious and piping hot, eclairs are also good. There are some benches by the seafront where you can enjoy some local baked delights from here.

Great little bakery. Also have machine coffee. The Cakes and speciality bread were amazing. Friendly staff too.
Ian T — Google review
The staff was so friendly and patient with four tourists who wanted to try nearly everything and had too many questions. Everything we tried was fantastic and it quickly became our go-to spot every day of our visit. It was our favorite bakery of our trip!

I bought a curry pie, it was tasty but really small compared to what I've been buying on the mainland.

The Cheese House is an award-winning cheese shop founded by Emmy, originally from the Netherlands. Housed in a former police station, it has been transformed into a cozy boutique and cafe where visitors can savor coffee and Dutch apple pie while browsing through a delightful selection of authentic Dutch cheeses. The store also offers local cheeses, oatcakes, and chutneys. Customers praise the friendly staff who are happy to offer samples before purchase.
Absolutely fantastic little place! So knowledgeable of all the cheeses, and great chat whilst preparing our cheeses. Surprised how reasonably priced everything was for being premium products! Rush to get there as this may be the last winter they are open due to retirement! My picture only shows part of the selection...

Another must visit when we're in the Black Isle. A wonderful range of cheeses and I always take recommendations from them, and samples provided.
Coleen M — Google review
I love Dutch cheese, so was delighted to see them at the Inverness farmers market today. Couple of excellent mature cheeses later, and I'm a happy man. Judging by the queue I stood in, they're hugely popular. Only down side is I have no cut off when it comes to eating good cheese, so I can't buy too much at any one time....
Paul B — Google review
A hidden gem in Cromarty is this little cheese shop in the old Police house , its packed with local cheeses and stacks of Dutch ones as well , the woman behind the counter was very kind to let us try a few and so we left with almost 2kg of cheeses
Tork M — Google review
Fantastic range of Dutch cheeses fresh cut from the wheel, and also a selection of local cheeses. Staff very friendly and happy to let you try everything before making your decision. Prices are on par with buying these cheeses elsewhere very reasonable, and the setting is great. Small range of local oatcakes and chutneys to go with as well.
Jamie P — Google review
Fantastic cheese shop with great choice of cheeses, olives, biscuits and crackers, chutney, olive oil and preserves. Local and regional cheeses a specialty, with tasting availability. ..try before you buy. A warm welcome and great customer service. Repeat visits recommended! A good local wine shop would go perfectly with this! !
Renee H — Google review
The shop keeper is very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to choosing just the right cheeses.
Megan P — Google review
In 2015 my niece, nephew and I stayed in Cromarty when we came up from London, and we had the good fortune of staying round the corner from Emmy's cheese shop in Cromarty. We could not get enough of her wonderful Dutch cheeses and her explanations, we went every day for more supplies! I've just been back today and thank god she is the same and the cheeses are fabulous just like before even though she moved into a different location in the town. Do not miss her or her cheeses, you'll be as delighted as we were/are and you'll quickly be back for more!!!!

Cromarty Harbour

4.9
(20)
Cromarty Harbour is a captivating tourist destination with an abundance of activities to keep visitors engaged. Explore the renowned Cromarty Courthouse Museum, Hugh Miller's Cottage, and the newly established Miller House Museum, all under the care of National Trust of Scotland. Take leisurely strolls along the picturesque beach or embark on an invigorating hike around the South Sutor leading to Macfarquhar's Bed.
Small, but perfectly formed, Cromarty harbour was constructed in 1784. This makes it rather older than the majority of the harbours along the Moray coast. Originally built for trade and fishing, the harbour is now also used for leisure.

Cromarty Harbour is a traditional coastal harbour. I have been here plenty times it well worth parking in Cromarty and just walk to explore. The harbour is a working harbour and there are usually a few vessels in dock. You can walk out the end the surfaces are uneven so mind your footing. Cromarty is a friendly place and people will chat with you. Highly recommended.
Allan M — Google review
We called in at Cromarty as we drove around the Black Isle and spent some time looking around Cromarty and the harbour. Cromarty is a delightful place and well worth visiting. The harbour is part of that experience. While we were there, we saw a whale watching boat go out, so it may be worth looking at that. We parked a few minutes away from the harbour and enjoyed walking through to town getting there.

Wasn't going to go here but ended up having a wee bit extra time and thank God we did. Beautiful beach with lots of sea glass and stunning views. Saw the cruise ship coming into port to. Great experience.
Jindz K — Google review
Friendliest Harbour I've ever been in. I was a boatmaster to trade and sailed tugs from Northern Norway to Bergen and exferries from Norway to Cameroon etc. The friendliest people I'd met till now we're in Cameroon. The most unfriendly were in Howth Harbour in Ireland with a very ignorant Harbour master. The whole of the staff here are so friendly with no pressure on how long you wish to stay and help in anyway they can. Refueling here is easy the tanker can come over the harbour bridge right to your boat. I really like it here and might just stay a bit longer for a bit of fishing. If yer cruising the east coast I can highly recommended a visit to Cromarty. Safe Harbour with stunning views and good shops, pub and amenities. Five out of five stars, with a sixth for the welcome.
Ian F — Google review
Very scenic and calm location. The burgh is noted as a base for viewing the local offshore sea life. These include one of the most northerly groups of bottlenose dolphins. Cromarty, along with Chanonry Point just round the coast, is one of the best places in Europe to see these animals close to the shore. The predominant local stone is the Old Red Sandstone about which Hugh Miller wrote. Many fossils can also be found in the rocks along the coast.
John M — Google review
Nice spot to chill on a Sunday afternoon. You can walk along the harbour wall and out over the sea. Good views of distant hills and old oil rigs near Nigg.
Mike M — Google review
Was on the Black Isle where Cromarty is the most easterly village.we had visited Fortrose (Chanory point) to see the Dolphins which has a permanent pod of Dolphins in the Cromarty Firth. Afterwards drove to Cromarty village &the harbour to use the ferry across to Nigg village.very interesting day out. Recommend a day visit.

Emigration Stone

Historical landmark
Emigration Stone stands in a picturesque grassy park near Cromarty beach, serving as a poignant reminder of the town's history. The intricately carved stone commemorates the mass emigration from Scotland during the 18th and 19th centuries. It symbolizes the significant role Cromarty played as a departure point for Scots seeking new opportunities in distant lands.
The Emigration Stone, Cromarty A Caithness Stone slab tribute to the thousands who departed Cromarty for The New World on scores of ships during the Highland Clearances. Names of ships that departed Cromarty for The New World during the 1830's and 1840's are inscribed around the edge. The centre bears an inscription from Hugh Miller's report to The Inverness Courier in 1831 and the unveiling coincided with his birthday

The Cromarty Courthouse Museum, celebrating its 250th anniversary, offers an enjoyable and educational experience. Open to the public free of charge, it provides transcripts of real court cases that are read out loud in a courtroom-like setting. Additionally, there is plenty of information available about the area's history, allowing visitors to delve into archives and explore beyond the well-known fishing and oil industries. The museum brings exhibits to life with the help of passionate volunteers who create a friendly atmosphere for all.
Really interesting experience of years and stories past and donations welcome but free entry

A great place to learn the history of Cromerty, more than just fishing and oil! Step back in time to hear a court session on a drunken brawl in the 1700's. Very friendly staff. Local photos downstairs. Free, but consider donating.
John M — Google review
A great little spot to absorb the history of the place, consider how the fortunes of Cromarty ebbed and flowed as the centuries passed. Interesting to think about how the positions of Inverness and Cromarty could have been reversed if, well, we’ll never know what tipped the balance. Very enthusiastic staff worker man, very welcoming and informative.

My daughter and hubby and I went on the wee ferry with the friendly Ferryman and his beautiful Dog .Trip about 20mins to Cromarty .It had started to rain very heavy so we went to the Cromarty Courthouse museum .The Spanish lady the attendant gave us some info sheets .No charge all donations welcome .We went a wee wander lots of Exhibits regarding Cromarty. We then made our way up to the Courthouse. There was a courthouse scene and a trial from 1700s a drunken brawl in an inn .The scene was set out with the legal eagles .The waxwork figures ( just like Tussaud’s ) it was very interesting and entertaining.. The lad mckenzie on trial .We went downstairs to the Jail ,.The courtyard the prisoners had their daily exercise .We all enjoyed the visit .Happy to pop in a donation .So don’t miss this if your on Cromarty .A small gift shop too . Still raining went we went out but This is Scotland .

Pizza Takeout
Sutor Creek in Cromarty is a popular cafe and restaurant known for its excellent wood-fired pizzas. The place is often crowded with visitors vying for the best seats. The restaurant offers delicious dishes such as perfectly cooked scallops with black pudding and roasted cod, along with an excellent strawberry cheesecake. It's considered a must-visit spot in Cromarty, offering a delightful dining experience without overpriced tasting menus.
Is it possible to rate Sutor Creek higher than 5 stars?!? This is a superb dining experience, with every dish prepared with imagination, perfection in flavors and elegance. The variety of choices gives anyone dining here a lot to choose from, and absolutely delicious. Our waitress was especially attentive to making this a fine dining experience. The restaurant was quaint and cozy, in a lovely seaport location that only added to the ambience. Make reservations because it has limited seating, although at midday they could seat some who had not called ahead. We loved everything about Sutor Creek, and understood why it is Michelin recognized. The best!

A truly special experience! This family-run restaurant combines outstanding service with delicious food that feels made with care and love. Every course was excellent, but the chocolate dessert was unforgettable – a real highlight of my trip. The owner and waitress made us feel so welcome that I only wish I lived closer to enjoy it more often. HIGHLY recommended – book ahead if you can, it’s well worth it!

we came all the way from San Francisco to visit the area and drove hours on the road, just to try this restaurant. We arrived at 3:10pm, fully expecting to be seated since both the map and the sign outside said they close at 4pm (and Google says 8pm). But to our surprise, we were told the last call was at 3pm. We explained how far we came, hoping they’d understand or make an exception since it was just 10 minutes past. But the staff simply said, “Sorry, we’re closed,” without much care. Really disappointing experience

If you are ever in this region make the effort to come to Cromarty just to eat here, you will not be disappointed. The staff are so welcoming & attentive, despite how busy it is (they also do take aways) The food is outstanding. Cannot recommend it enough

Fantastic little restaurant in Cromarty. We had amazing pizzas, lovely thin bases and the honey cheesecake for desert was brilliant! Great coffees too! Service was very friendly and efficient. Booking recommended as it is fairly small and does get busy. We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed.
Isobel B — Google review
Delicious pizza and the gluten-free version was excellent. I ordered the Highlander, which was full of protein and flavorful. Lovely oven fired pizzas made in house. The other diner’s plates looked good. I’d love to come back for the seafood or scallops. Beautiful decor. Good for small Gatherings or intimate date night. Only preferential difference was there was country music playing, which did not fit the atmosphere in my humble opinion. It’s just not my favorite genre, but it might not bother others. As a musician, though I notice these things. The staff was really sweet. Restaurant is steps away from the ocean. Very peaceful experience.

Sutor Creek is a little gem—friendly staff, amazing wood-fired pizzas 🍕, and a lovely harbour vibe. Always tasty, always welcoming—definitely worth a visit!

Visited for Sunday lunch. Quickly seated and orders taken. Cullen Skink was lovely starter. Sunday Roast was beef - overall very good but was a little tough to cust. Fish and Chips had very large fish portion with tasty chips. The Lemon Posset desert was great - really tangy. Meal rounded off with lovely coffess. This place has many pizzas on the menu. Take away was seen to be available. Good service and nice cosy atmosphere.
