La Verna - Franciscan Sanctuary is a monumental sanctuary dedicated to St. Francis, located in a picturesque cliffside setting with breathtaking views of the Casentino valley and ancient castles like Poppi and Romena. The 32-hectare property includes an 18th-century farmhouse and agricultural annexes, reflecting the owners' dedication to preserving local traditions and the environment across eight generations.
Very nice monastery on the top of the hill. Near parking available as well as restaurant directly in the monastery, or right next to rhe parking.

What a place to live. Monks and nuns share this beautiful spot in honour of St. Francis. A must see when in this area

Cool place. Lits of tourists though. Great views, chappels everywhere, interesting 'caves' and history!

Beautiful stay at the monestary on top of the mountains. A lot of tourisrs but if you stay the night you can catch the monestary in its quiet tranquility. Beautiful hikes all around the area.

Beautiful place to experience the serenity and grace of the Franciscan spirituality. A place so dear to St Francis of Assisi. Set amongst a hill top cliff, it speaks of all things Francis, nature, serenity, wildlife.
AM P — Google review
It was indeed a gem. We had a lot th whole day. Prayer, meals, encounter, tour around the place and concluded with a procession and a mass.
Mikeronil B — Google review
Absolutely STUNNING PLACE whether you are believer or not. It is very suggestive place in the mountains in province of Arezzo (Tuscany). It consists of couple of buildings of sanctuary, church, chapels, place where Saint Francis received the stigmas, small museum, shop. You can feel strong spirituality and huge peace there. When i entered the church, one of Franciscan monk played the grand piano and I burst into tears without reason. We didn't planned this visit on our journey, we were with our dog, which was not a problem everywhere outside. Please pay attention, there is about 5-7 degrees colder in this valley, we suggest to take jumper or jacket with you. We ate local "piadinas" in small bar near the parking place. Surely WORTH OF NEXT VISIT AGAIN.
Lenka S — Google review
Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Italy, La Verna is a place of unparalleled natural beauty and spiritual significance. Its rugged cliffs and lush forests provide a stunning backdrop to the iconic La Verna Sanctuary, where St. Francis of Assisi once communed with nature and received the stigmata. A pilgrimage to this hallowed site promises a profound connection with both the divine and the wonders of the Italian landscape.

Poppi Zoo is a modest yet charming destination for wildlife enthusiasts in Tuscany. Situated in the picturesque Municipal territory of Poppi, it offers a unique insight into the local ecosystem. The zoo primarily features indigenous species, providing visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the native fauna of the region. While some areas may require maintenance and English information is limited, it remains an enjoyable experience for nature lovers.
Poppi zoo is an excellent spot to see some local wildlife in a lovely setting. We almost didn't come since the ratings are so mixed, but so glad we came - this is a hidden gem that definitely deserves much higher ratings. Looked almost abandoned at first, but as we walked past the donkeys, we started seeing everything from lynx to owls and much much more. We paid for our ticket on the way out meeting the owner Monica, who is obviously very passionate about her animals. The highlight was coming face to face with wolves. PS: highly recommend quirky Osteria del Tempo Perso in nearby Poppi if you need a meal.
Paul B — Google review
I was dubious about coming because there is only a three star review on Google but we went anyway and I’m so glad we did. It’s a lovely place in a beautiful part of Tuscany with big green areas, open spaces to picnic and plenty of benches throughout. There are lots of animals to see, a play park and a bar/ restaurant. All of the animals look very well looked after and healthy, which was a huge relief for me after some of the horror wildlife parks I’ve seen in the past. The staff were friendly. I would recommend it.
Deedee G — Google review
Very run down and in a complete state of disrepair. Old farming equipment and nettles everywhere. Half the animals are donkeys and wild rabbits! That being said, my kids and I had an exiting afternoon. We were pretty much alone in the park, which gave it an eerie atmosphere. At any moment we expected Tyrannosaurs and wolves to jump us! Unfortunately we did not see any of the expected wolves - and the bear apparently died in 2022. In my opinion the birds of prey had too small enclosures, but we saw no animals in distress. It could become a much better attraction with some investment and hard work. But if you are the area, and in need of a picnic spot when give it a try.
Bjørn T — Google review
Very nice zoo with many European animals in their habitat. The (quite old) brown bear is super cute. We spent half a day spotting the animals with our 3yo daughter. The animals have plenty of space and look happy. Entrance is 8€ for adults and 6.5€ for kids. There is a restaurant where you can buy food and sandwiches for picnic and also a playground (old, but still our daughter enjoyed it quite a lot)
Caterina V — Google review
This zoo is more of an animal sanctuary for native animals. The animals were happy and well cared for. You can tell they are socialized with the staff as they come to fences to see you. The food was excellent as well.
Dale Z — Google review
This zoo is very special and worth a visit. The animals are native to the area and you can actually see they are happy. That is rare in a zoo. The views are amazing and as you walk to the exhibits it is as if you are in a park. As someone else mentioned, it is more of a sanctuary than just a zoo.
Alissa M — Google review
Went there and it looked like the „cages“ (yes I have to call them that because they looked like literal cages with metal bars) hadn’t been cleaned in ages. The bears looked miserable and sad in their little enclosure and the wolves/ wild dogs looked as if they hadn’t eaten in months either and as if we were its next meal. The bird cages hurt me as a human, way too small and very sad.
Marla — Google review
+ emaizing view + Great park and picnic area + Possibility feed some animals - playground should be renovated, some things have to be fixed - English is not really supported and there are few information signs that help you without knowing Italian, but it doesn't impact the possibility to enter and enjoy the trip. About animals. Some opinions are exaggerated, there are no "sick/sad" animals visible. Some animals are hard to see because they have enough space to hide. Some animals are missing some space but it is not possible to provide enough space for them (birds) in that case I only hope it's been rescued and not removed from the nature. Overall location is amazing, zoo is average, facilities should be renovated but there are not many places like this to see in good weather.

Nestled in the picturesque Cansentino Valley, Camping La Pineta is a delightful family-run campsite that offers an enchanting escape for both families and nature enthusiasts. Surrounded by lush green fields and charming pine-like trees, this site features cozy wooden cabins that encircle a spacious pool, creating a serene forest oasis. The atmosphere here is tranquil and inviting, making it an ideal spot to unwind. The campsite prides itself on its cleanliness and well-maintained facilities.
The owner Maurizio is a really very nice and very helpful guy.. The camping site itself isn't too big and has good places on different levels for tents and caravans. I will come back, even if not everything is perfect. But who is perfect. The pool is amazing. From the camping site it is only 2 km to a fantastic restaurant. I loved the place.

Nice campsite near Poppi, great location, great service and a nice pool. Sanitary could use an upgrade. No area to wash the dishes.

We only stayed for one night at the La pineta camping but could have stayed much longer. The owner is incredibly friendly and even though the campground is terraced it was easily accessible with our T5. Showers, toilets and other facilities are clean and its a good starting point to do hikes and daytrips in the casentinesi national park. Be sure to get a cappuccino at the little bar at the swimming pool! We would definitely come here again!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful campsite, kept obsessively by how clean and precise it was in everything. Clean and spacious bathrooms, with sink, hand soap and toilet paper. Separate showers, super spacious and with hot water. Arranged on terraces, the campsite is full of trees and is therefore practically completely shaded, consequently it is very easy to hang lines or ropes to hang clothes between the trees themselves. It has a spacious swimming pool, sun loungers and umbrellas. You pay the price per person for the nights of stay, plus the price of the vehicle with which you stay (tent, camper, car, etc.). All the staff is super kind and helpful, in the chatter exchanged I felt welcomed like at home!

Visited the restaurant for lunch and the food was delicious. Traditional and authentic Tuscan dishes on offer. Staff were lovely and very accommodating of our 9month old baby. Fantastic views too!

We went to the restaurant which filled very quickly. Menu large easy to choose what suited your taste, pizzas ,pasta, steak, pork all there. House red was good, bill was reasonable. There are tables to eat outside so I assume in summer get a table outside as view is amazing. Service was good.

Best option if you are in Casentino: La Torricella has the greatest view of Poppi’s Castle, as it is exactly in front of it. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and all details are taken care of (we enjoyed one of the rooms in the side building). Dinner was very good and staff took extra care. Cannot miss!

We visited this restaurant three times when staying in Poppi. The setting and food was excellent each time. Sadly, on our last visit the service was not up to its previous standard, which was extremely disappointing particularly as we sitting outside and unusually it was cold and rainy. No offer was made to sit us inside. It was busy but we felt our orders should have been given priority given the weather conditions.

Very nice little quaint hotel. Three levels of room for your stay. Food is great along with the staff they seem to be very friendly and helpful. Probably will come back here for my vacation and stay again.

This is just for the restaurant, rather than the hotel. Beautiful setting with wonderful views. Large parties of Italian families coming to celebrate, which gives an indication of how good the food is. It is *very* good and the staff were kind and helpful towards us when we couldn't speak in Italian.

We had our wedding meal here 6 years ago and we had a fantastic meal with awesome service. We have returned this year and also decided to stay the night as well as another meal. The food and service is great and we thought the view of Poppi Castle our wedding venue was so lovely from the room we booked. We have lovely memories here and that is testament to the staff of this lovely establishment.

Excellent restaurant and hotel, just outside Poppi. It offers an excellent view of the hill, at night the illuminated castle gives magic and peace. It is possible to eat outside, and in the summer evening there is live music. Typical cuisine and good pizza, good choice of wines. Nestled in the picturesque mountains, Il Capanno is a beloved dining destination that draws visitors year after year. After a morning of chestnut harvesting, indulging in their traditional Tuscan fare—featuring succulent meats, earthy mushrooms, fragrant truffles, and handmade pasta—is an experience not to be missed. One of our yearly appointments is to go to this restaurant after spending the morning harvesting chestnuts. This year made no difference and the typical food (meat, mushrooms, truffles and hand made pasta) has been up to scratch. It's a bit of a journey to reach this place from where we live, but chestnuts, food and the views of the colourful woods in autumn, make all worthwhile. Tables where placed far apart and Covid-19 protocols were all met. 2023: apart from the unneeded COVID measures all the rest is confirmed. Maybe a little bit too noisy when full of clients.

It's great and modern, but you need to know where you are going. this is an extremely refined cuisine, aimed at enhancing the flavors of the territory, of course, but also an extreme refinement of combinations and timing. The high cost is justified, in fact, because it is an experience rather than a classic dinner, just as the quality is indisputable. I did the full tasting menu with wine pairing, but I think I would have been disappointed if I had ordered a la carte. Overall I must say that I was satisfied, I don't like the genre though, a great experience!
