A beautiful peaceful church with a wonderful background. My son was baptised here so I make sure to visit a few times a year. Parking can be a little difficult but after church the beautiful square and surrounding shops make for a good afternoon on a shopping spree.

(Translated by Google) We were informed that we absolutely had to use the backpack locker to visit the museum AFTER purchasing the tickets (small backpacks, certainly not school bags). We offered to keep them in the front so as not to risk damaging the works (we're certainly not children and know how to manage an art exhibition visit), but we were rudely refused, insisting that we use the lockers. Fortunately for us, too, the card refused the transaction to complete the ticket purchase, an opportunity that the staff seized upon to be even more rude and impolite. I note now that the official website and Facebook page don't require backpacks as a "visit rule," because had we known this in advance, we would have prepared differently (and if we had been informed beforehand, we would have considered it accordingly). I don't think this was professional or honest behavior. If you're considering a visit, I recommend keeping in mind that the lockers they offer for storing personal belongings aren't checked. Also note that I've been there before and had a backpack, and on that occasion I wasn't even asked to carry it in front. Is this a rule applied depending on who's selling the tickets and/or how they feel? Very, very unfair. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We were ordered to leave our backpack in their (probably unsupervised) cabinet only after purchasing the tickets. We had pretty small bags, too. Anyway, we offered to just hold our backpacks in front of us (as is sufficient in other museums), but our request was rudely refused. We've been lucky our credit card refused the transaction a few seconds later, an event used by the museum staff to become even more rude. Such rules are not specified on their museum website and Facebook page, so we had no way of knowing that beforehand. Regardless, that was absolutely unprofessional. If you are considering to visit the place I recommend you to take into consideration these unwritten rules. On a final note, I distinctly remember visiting the musuem before without any similar rule being enforced. Molto molto scorretto. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have been ordered to leave our backpack in their (probably unsupervised) cabinet only after purchasing the tickets. (Translated by Google) Perhaps the only place in Prato worth a visit. I was here on March 8, 2025, and the museum is truly beautiful and well-maintained. When I visited, I was the only one there, and I had the entire museum to myself. Next to many of the works, there was a QR code that, when scanned, opened a very interesting audio description. The museum appears to have been recently renovated, as it has new, modern equipment. The only things I didn't appreciate were that the panoramic terrace and the façade were under restoration, so I wasn't allowed to enjoy the view from there, and the exorbitant price of the ticket. It's absurd to charge such a high price for a museum. It's a shame, though, if you're in Prato, you must visit. For me, it was worth it, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Mentioned on

Museums
Located in Prato, Italy, the Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci is a pioneering multidisciplinary arts center housed in a distinctive building. Since its establishment in 1988, it has been dedicated to showcasing international avant-garde art and has amassed a significant permanent collection featuring over 1,000 works by three hundred artists from the last three decades.
It was my first ever visit at Centro Pecci, i was literally mind blowed. It is the second contemporary hub ever opened in Italy, careful it is not a gallery or a museum but it is much more. Please read online for more info. The general manager, Stefano, gave us a tour showing the different areas of the exhibition that has an insane in-depth study of the details from architecture, lights exposition to setting and last the outstanding selection of artists and works. The tour and the level of the presentation was far above any expectations, emotional and in the same time entertaining product of a very talented and knowledgeable GM. I will surely come back. It is a must see stop / designation for contemporary art enthusiast and collectors as myself. 10/10

Visited the museum on a saturday morning and it was good, I loved Marcon's rooms. But the bistro was the real thing, the guy with glasses was so friendly and made me the best cappuccino I had in Italy. And he told me that his sister lives in Poland as well! Even the sciacciatina was very good. Thank u!

I visited once with my friend. He is in jail now but still has memory !
Jean Y — Google review
The building itself is very impressive. Maybe I got there on a bad day but the exhibits were seriously dated, spectacularly academic and non visual. The content focused on a set of existentialist conceptual artists. The experience stuck me as though the museum could not afford to mount a real contemporary show & instead had pulled out notes and photos of artists and their work from their library.

Amazing museum that explains to you everything that has to do with the production of the clothes - from the very beginning of taking a raw material to creating the finishing fabric !! Plus they have inside machineries to show its purpose back in the years with explanation next to each and every one of them . The staff in the entrance is very polite and helpful ! At the end(which is also the entrance! ) there is also a souvenir shop!

Empty on a Sunday, interesting to see the different materials and 500yr old clothes. Lots of empty halls though, and you seem to have to walk through the museum and all the way back the same way to get out. Weird layout!

This imposing structure was built at the behest of Emperor Frederick II and is considered a prime example of 11th-13th century architecture in Prato.
Beautiful city ce ter in Prato. We sat and ate pizza from a local place and watched the sunset. Unfortunately, we got to town too late to see the inside. Walk around, check out the local artist shops and people watch! Picturesque, meandering streets.

Great views from the wall and free! We did find it hard to visit though... it's closed on Tuesday and closed from pretty much 12.15pm til 6pm. Also because of Covid there is only one group allowed up the wall at a time so leave yourself enough time

The Emperor's Castle is located in Prato in Piazza delle Carceri. It is an example of Frederick-era architecture, built by order of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, as part of the struggle for dominance in Tuscany between the empire and the papacy that characterized the decades around 1200. History and description edit The site of today's castle once housed the Alberti family's fort of Prato, which was almost completely razed to the ground in 1107 during the siege by Matilda of Canossa's troops. In its place, another palace, called "Palazzolo," was rebuilt to house the nuncios of Emperors Henry VI of Swabia and Otto IV of Brunswick (two towers remain, the ones without battlements, which until 1767-68 were about double their current height); The area surrounding the castle has always been strategic, so much so that documents dating back to 1035[2] attest to the presence of an older "palatium"; this building was the nucleus of the Castrum Prati, the village that arose above the palace, which also contained an ancient parish church (Santa Maria in Castello, which no longer exists). The construction commission was entrusted by Frederick II to Riccardo da Lentini, probably starting in 1240. The castle, originally tangent to the second circle of walls (12th century), was partially surrounded by a moat and connected to the Albertian prisons, from whose definition "prisons" the nearby Marian sanctuary took its name. It has eight towers and, like Castel del Monte, has various symbolic aspects inherent in both its structure and its portal. Once completed, it was intended to be used as an important garrison for the empire, testifying to the emperor's presence in his northern possessions. However, its construction was interrupted around 1250 due to the emperor's premature death, and the unfinished structure was subsequently used for many other purposes. During the 14th century, under Florentine rule, the castle was connected to the third ring of walls by a covered corridor called the "Corridore del Cassero" (meaning: castle corridor), or simply the Cassero. This allowed Florentine troops to safely enter the city from outside the walls using a protected passage. Over the centuries, several houses were built inside and around the structure. In the 1930s, under Fascist rule, all the houses were demolished, and the castle assumed its current appearance, consisting essentially of only the exterior walls. The simultaneous opening of Viale Piave also led to the demolition of much of the Cassero structure, of which two sections remain. Also interesting, behind the castle itself, are the remains of the hospital and the corresponding church of San Giovanni Gerosolimitano (or of the Knights of Malta), built outside the walls in the mid-12th century and currently abandoned, but which still preserves small and rare anthropomorphic traces in Romanesque terracotta. (Translated by Google) one of the first Franciscan churches in the world to be built. It is located in the oldest part of the city and was built in 1282, when the municipality donated land to the minor friars who built a convent and a church there. The facade of the church is made of two-tone bricks with the addition, in the Renaissance period, of an elegant portal and a triangular tympanum with the relief of the Stigmata of San Francesco by Andrea della Robbia. Inside, there is a nave with wooden truss roofs and a 15th century pietra serena pulpit with a 1400 panel of the Monogram of Christ. Above the altar there is a fourteenth-century crucifix in polychromed wood donated by the merchant Francesco Datini, whose white marble tombstone is found on the floor of the church. The Migliorati Chapel, also known as the Chapter of San Francesco or the Chapter Room of the Friars, is a Renaissance chapel located in the church of San Francesco. It was painted around 1400 by the Florentine painter Niccolò Gerini, a follower of the Giotto school, commissioned by the Migliorati family. The vault of the chapel represents the figures of the Evangelists with lively chromatic brushstrokes, while in the lunette of the eastern wall there is an imposing, but unfortunately also deteriorated, representation of the Crucifixion. The Migliori Chapel is also known as "the Scrovegni chapel of Prato" and is a symbolic place of the city of Prato.

Excellent small collection in a beautiful late-12th century cloister.

(Translated by Google) The museum was visited with a single ticket that also included access to the cathedral chapels, where the frescoes by Fra Filippo Lippi stand out. Among the museum's most artistically splendid works, visitors were able to admire the dancing cherubs decorating the marble pulpit by Donatello and Michelozzo, a copy of which can be seen on the right side of the cathedral's façade. The antiquarium contains stone fragments, funerary monuments, and religious frescoes of great artistic interest and is architecturally enhanced by elegant cross vaults. The rooms that wind through the museum display 13th- and 14th-century paintings, which are striking for their originality and meaning. The 16th- and 17th-century rooms present visitors with a difficult choice between paintings to be observed carefully and those to be seen quickly. The Romanesque cloister is a precious component of the cathedral, even though it has been remodeled and limited to only one side. The fifteenth-century hall, the Cinta Hall, and the excavation area complete a fascinating artistic journey that enriches the mind and soul.

Ristorante Pepenero-Cucina6zero is a popular dining spot, especially on Saturday evenings around 9 PM. This modern and elegant restaurant, located within the charming Etruria tennis club, offers a fusion of traditional Tuscan and Italian flavors with the creative touch of award-winning chef Mirko Giannoni. The menu features a variety of courses including antipasti, primo, and secondi. Guests can expect not only delicious food but also exquisite presentation and attentive service.
Food was beautiful and service was amazing, we were served breads, amuse bouche and small desserts. The owner 91 years old personally made the steak tartare at our table Location is a bit out of the way

Food that not only tastes gorgious but looks it too, mini bites between each course and fantastic staff, listen to their recommendations. Local foods and their own wine, the deserts are to die for, mine had a sugar dome with smoke pouring out. Great time, highly recommended for both locals and visitors

Raja Indian Lounge Restaurant

Mentioned on

Indian restaurant
Restaurant
The cuisine at Raja Indian Lounge Restaurant is delectable, offering a milder and less spicy taste compared to typical American fare. The garlic naan resembles pizza in appearance, possibly paying homage to Italian food, yet still maintains its traditional and delightful flavor. The staff members are incredibly friendly and fluent in English. They go the extra mile by explaining the menu, highlighting vegetarian options, and attentively checking in on guests during their meal.
Very tasty food. The flavor is a little lighter and less spicy than what we're used to in America. In a potential homage to Italian food, the garlic naan looks a bit like pizza, but it's still delicious and tastes like traditional garlic naan. The staff is super friendly and speaks English. They explained the menu to us, called out the vegetarian items, and checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal. The atmosphere is nice, as they have ample shaded outdoor seating and provide a small lamp at the table as the sun sets. It's pricier than the other Indian restaurants in the area, but it's worth it for the comfortable environment and excellent service.

Way better than all the Italian muck you get round here! Amazing currys, their smell will make you hungry!!!! Thanks guys. My culo loved it. Update November 2024: I can't stop farting since eating here.
Alex O — Google review
Disappointing experience. Firstly the food is not authentic. They are selling a spoon of turmeric rice by calling it Biriyani. Ridiculously, they served a bread with some garlic paste on it and called it garlic naan. Secondly, they compel you to order more. Thirdly, unfriendly staffs. Overall, if possible, avoid.

Wish I could give 10 stars! My husband and I walked in here on a Saturday evening hoping to get in as we had been driving all day and after a week of pizza and pasta were looking for something different. Sadly there were no reservations available and we were pretty bummed. But the staff didn’t turn us away, they offered to make some to go orders for us so we could atleast enjoy the food. And we really really did!! The food was absolutely delicious-and the staff was just wonderful! So friendly and kind. If we were staying near Prato for longer there’s no doubt we would be back here again! I would highly recommend this place! Seriously , we wish we had it close to us back in the U.S!

This Restaurant is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is pretty good, some italian classics and some twists, and for their prices it’s 100% worth it.

A very good Indian restaurant with a tasty food and excellent service. Actually we got to the place when it was fully booked, but we managed easily to book a table for another day via WhatsApp, and our table waited for us. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the service was great. Staff was doing a good job of explaining us about the dishes. Points for improvement: 1. More vegetarian options (there was only one when we arrived) 2. English menu (surprise! no English! typically Indian places in Europe provide an English menu) Recommended, if you want a break from the local cuisine.

Il Dek Italian Bistrot

Italian restaurant
Il Dek Italian Bistrot offers an eclectic and refined Italian cuisine, featuring a variety of seafood and land specialties, as well as sushi and pizza. The bistro is known for its charming atmosphere, especially when dining outside near the castle square. While some guests have experienced slight delays between courses, the overall experience is positive with friendly service and delicious food. The terrace provides a lovely setting for lunch, although some visitors have noted discrepancies in pricing.
DeK is located on the idyllic Piazza Santa Maria delle Carceri, in the heart of Prato's historical center. Although they have a bit of everything from gourmet pizzas and burgers to a delectable collection of prosciutto, they specialize in sophisticated seafood dishes.

Four of us for lunch. Two margarita pizzas , one salad and one carbonara dish. Pizzas were really blah tasting the vegetables were ok and the carbonara was just ok. What took me by the most surprise was the total amount of the bill. This place offers ok food with high prices. Can’t recommend.

We visited with a large group of about 20, which, admittedly, can be a challenge for any restaurant, but from the moment we sat down, it was clear the challenge might be mutual. The owner himself took our orders, armed with nothing but a pen, a scrap of paper, and a wing and a prayer. While charming in theory, the execution was... less so. Our family of four ordered a chicken dish, a chicken Caesar salad, a Caprese salad, and—out of sheer culinary curiosity—a starter listed as “rabbit cooked like tuna.” (A dish so cryptic it sparked a full-table debate and some light Googling.) When the food began to arrive, everyone was cautiously optimistic, except me, the lone soul left dishless and forgotten. The owner, doing a casual lap of the table, asked if everyone had their meal (which felt like something he should already know). I let him know that not only was the mystery rabbit a no-show, but my chicken dish hadn’t arrived either. His response? “Ah yes, the rabbit cooked like tuna is no longer available.” As for the chicken? “Oh... um... yes, that’ll take another 25–30 minutes.” Considering the rest of the table was already halfway through their meals, I suggested we cancel it altogether and I’d share my 10-year-old’s chicken Caesar—until he declared, with the brutal honesty only a child can muster, “This chicken is dry and cold.” He wasn’t wrong. It was also bland enough to make me question if the chef was in witness protection. My wife’s Caprese salad was “fine,” in the same way a lukewarm hotel coffee is fine, technically acceptable but far from memorable. Eventually, the owner returned, now offering to fast-track the chicken dish. I agreed, out of hunger and a faint glimmer of hope. When it finally arrived, it was... passable. Edible. Certainly not worth the suspense. At the end of the meal, I thanked the owner for trying to smooth things over, to which he responded (with complete sincerity), “Yes, I just took the chicken someone else ordered and gave it to you.” A fitting end to a meal best described as chaos with a side of confusion. Prices were ambitious given the quality, and while we appreciate a good story, I’d prefer mine not come at the expense of dinner.

Had a conference dinner here with a big group and overall it was a good experience: the food was tasty and the atmosphere outside - on the square next to the castle - hard to beat. The service was friendly and professional, although at points slightly disorganized. In terms of the food and serving, I wasn’t a huge fan of the “sharing” concept and the fact that several dishes were brought on larger plates to share, rather than individually plated. I understand though that this is more feasible for a large group. Overall still recommended!
Christoph L — Google review
We (4 adults, 2 children) had a lovely lunch on the terrace. Tasty starters and pasta. It wasn't cheap but overall priceworthy. Expect the Pizza MARGHERITA plus ham for the children. 24 Euro each, instead of 10 Euro as indicated on the menu (without ham). They charged 14 Euro (×2) extra for the ham..... That's a rip off.

Very good atmosphere and the setting paid off! Food was good and light. The only downside was the big delays between courses, possibly because we were a very big team of people and the restaurant was not adequately staffed to manage it properly. However, the whole experience was very positive. I believe that if someone goes to the bistro with a few friends it would be perfect!

Delicious restaurant with friendly staff near Milan's Central Station. At 8 pm on a Wednesday in January, the place was nearly empty. Got seated right away and greeted by the friendly staff. I had heard that the "national dish of Milan" is risotto saffron with osso buco. This is a veal cutlet cooked in butter with tomato sauce, and of course saffron-flavored risotto. It was a 22 euro special - a bit more than other items on the menu, but I had to give it a try.

It is highly recommended to make reservations in advance at La Vecchia Cucina di Soldano as it tends to fill up quickly. The cuisine is outstanding, the ambiance is captivating, and the staff is exceptionally welcoming. They go above and beyond to not only accommodate English speakers but also engage in small talk. It's unfortunate that I couldn't visit for a final meal before leaving Prato due to being fully booked.

Ravioli Liu

$$$$cheap
Chinese restaurant
Ravioli Liu is a Chinese restaurant located in Prato's 'chinatown' that offers authentic and tasty Chinese cuisine with generous portions at reasonable prices. The ambiance may need some improvement, but the food, including the flavorful ravioli and dumplings, makes it a worthwhile dining experience. The menu features dishes like hundred year egg, pigs ears, hot potatoes, and Chinese salad to balance out the greasiness of some items.
Ravioli Liu probably it is the first Chinese restaurant where I ate an authentic Chinese spring roll. Their cuisine is different, I mean is really Chinese. Their dishes are not common and they are very tasty. I tasted a Cantonese sweet eggplant dish that I never tried, it was delicious, tasteful. I also tried a spicy kidney, maybe it is a kind of dish that not all the people can appreciate, but it was delicious. The chicken with cashews was light and tasteful. Of course their ravioli are really good and they are very light, made with good, tasteful ingredients. Just one advice. Be careful to the portions because they are really very generous! There was space for my wheelchair. The people there is really nice, the atmosphere is enjoyable. See you soon Ravioli Liu!)))

Great food and great price. This place is perfect for lunch. A lot of spice and large portions. Almost like going to a Chinese restaurant in the states for lunch. Everything in the picture and the rice and water cost less than €25. Also, this is not your Chinese food you get from a sushi place in Italy. These have strong flavor (sweet salty spicy etc....). Dumplings are a must. These are fantastic and cannot be compared to what you get at Italian sushi place. If you are looking for something different in Italy, then this place will do. Enjoy!!
Ch F — Google review
The location and decoration of the place is not so appealing, but the food is authentic and tasty and the portions are huge for the prices. Chinese cuisine is a bit greasy though so pay attention to keep the balance with ordering some Chinese salad or something less heavy. The ravioli are tasty and plenty (10 in one portion). The personnel alone would only get two stars from me though as they seemed quite bored and a bit unpolite. Overall a worthy experience though.

Transportation in Prato

Getting around Prato can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Nearby airports

Amerigo Vespucci Airport

International airport
Airport
Amerigo Vespucci Airport, also known as Florence Airport, is a modern facility with a single runway and a two-floor terminal building. It offers city bus links for convenient transportation. Travelers can easily connect to Florence Airport or take direct trains to Rome Termini Station for a three-hour journey to Florence Santa Maria Novella Station.
I think it’s quite obvious that we all know that Florence Airport is a small airport so you wouldn’t expect much compared to some of the bigger airports. Arrivals - I arrived morning on a weekday and the flight from Frankfurt wasn’t full. At the same time there weren’t any other flights that landed so picking up luggage was very smooth and easy. There was no need for immigration (probably because landed from EU country). Going into the city was very smooth and easy. There is a small Visitor Center that speaks English to help. You can buy your tram tickets at the bookshop. Those that rented cars, there is a car rental company shuttle bus just outside that takes you to all the car rental companies place. The shuttle bus comes around 15mins I think. Departure - Very smooth. I departed on a Wednesday evening around 7:15pm flight to Zurich. Check-in was very simple and easy. The security check was very standard. The airport is very small so there aren’t many shops. Obviously there are some restaurant outlets but as I departed on a peak hour, so many of the seats and table were full.

I like this airport a lot even though it is outdated. They haven't added any gates in the last 50 years so you have to take a shuttle from the plane to the terminal. The terminal is really small which means you can walk through it in less than 2 minutes. Once you are outside it is a one minute walk to the tram which leaves every 5 minutes. I've never gotten from my plane to hotel so easily or quickly in a metropolitan area.

Really surprised About Florence being a popular tourist destination, but has an outdated airport with no efficiency! The airport is small and confusing and lack with informations etc etc Transport from and to airport is extremely expensive with set minimum charge and all luggage's in the booth cost extra (cost more if outside of working hour)!!! Food at airport is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, small baguette is £13 and bottle of water is £4!! This airport is desperately need an upgrade to accommodate this huge tourism industry in this region.

What kind of airport CLOSES at nighttime? I had a flight at 6am and got to the airport at 6pm the day before. I spent ages in the cafe buying overpriced coffee and food and then thought that I would try and sleep in the lobby area on the chairs. At 1am a guard with a gun turned up and shouted at everyone in the lobby, saying that we all had to leave. This just left everyone confused, and the small amount of people who were waiting all shared confused glances with each other. I remained seated and when the guard came back, I asked him why we had to leave, and he said because the airport closes and would reopen at 4am. So out we all had to go, into the dark, the cold and into the rain. It was too dangerous to wait outside with my two big suitcases, so I thought I’d try and get to the nearby bar shown on google maps. There were no signs to this bar and I ended up on the wrong side of the fence trying to get in. Luckily I then met a group of Portuguese travellers, who were even more confused than I was, and we were able to figure out how to get to the bar, and ended up spending 4 hours there waiting for the airport to reopen. They too were shocked that the airport closed. The worst airport I’ve been to. Never again! If you have to go to Florence, go to Pisa airport and then get the train.

I was quite disappointed with my experience at the airport. There was a noticeable smell of urine in some areas, which made the environment unpleasant. The airline staff seemed to work very slowly, leading to long waiting times. Many of the self-service machines were out of order, and even the ones that worked still required you to queue up to print your boarding pass, making them almost useless. Overall, the airport needs significant improvements in cleanliness, efficiency, and facilities.

Thai airport is not bad but not the best either. One thing to note if you have to come prior to 6AM there isn’t much open so maybe grab anything you need ahead of time. It is also a relatively small airport so early morning flights often don’t have ticket agents available until 1.5 hours prior to take off for check in and baggage check. Getting to the airport from Florence city center is easy via cab but despite being just 3-4 miles it can easily take 20 minutes so plan accordingly. Taxis should offer you a flat rate. EDIT: my wife and I both flew through at different times and honestly we had a lot of problems can’t buy hygiene products easily, staff didn’t show up till last minute and they made me late to my connection.

Worst experience in Europe. The worst thing is the security check. The waiting line could reach up to 200 people and 40+ minutes. 2 families including us missed their fight just bcoz of the security check line, even though our baggage was dropped 1 hour before the flight. The other family dropped their baggage 2 hours before. In normal operating hours they only have 4 x-ray machines and metal checkers. At night hours, they operate only 2 machines. Never fly from here. try Pisa airport or Milan airports instead. Disaster

It’s an average size airport but very busy as the layout is quite cramped. Waiting area is also quite limited in seats. Some cafes for snacks and drinks. Signages are bilingual so easy to navigate Tram T2 to the city is just next to the airport which makes its very convenient

Pisa International Airport

International airport
Airport
Pisa International Airport, also known as Galileo Galilei, is conveniently connected to central Pisa via a new train link. The airport provides easy access to the city's attractions such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Baptistery, Cathedral, and medieval old town. Visitors can explore the vibrant cafe and bar scene in the city center surrounded by well-maintained Romanesque buildings, Gothic churches, and Renaissance piazzas.
Our flight was early in the morning so it was quite easy and fast to reach to the airport and pass the security line. The staff was also kind in general.
Yasemin K — Google review
It’s very small, and since we came during the off-season, there weren’t many people. However, the security staff were extremely rude, aggressively throwing our backpacks onto the conveyor belt. The most ridiculous part is that, while most airports require bags to be placed in trays, this one doesn’t—simply because the security conveyor belt is too small, too short, too narrow, and not even automatic, making it impossible to fit trays. Yet, the staff still rudely tossed our bags aside. It was truly awful.

Way too small to handle the amount of traffic/passengers - the gates have space for 50 people to sit...Which is maybe not enough as modern planes carry around 200 passengers, absolutely not family friendly - especially the staff, and the service is a catastrophe. One of, if not the worst airport I have ever been to.
Philipp N — Google review
Way to small for the ambitious amount of passengers they want to process. The hallway is a complete chaos. Only a selected amount of passengers per flight are allowed in the security check zone. Everyone is packed in front of the security gates, so even if you are allowed it is very hard to come through. The airport personell is not aware of which passengers are allowed through the security gates, so lots of them are to late resulting in even more delays. Today's flight to Amsterdam was delayed for two hours mostly because the procedures at the airport.

This place is way too small for the footfall passing through. It's pack-jammed with people spread everywhere over the floor. The toilets are few and they are not sanitary - The smell is really bad. The gates are small and packed together. Probably the worst airport I've been to.
Phil B — Google review
It's the worst airport in Europe. There are not enough seats.. All the time delays. It's always a mess there. It's too small place for so many people..not organized good at all. Shameful. You can't understand what they are pronouncing in the speakers. The toilets are always a disaster.. no paper, not cleaned, smelling awful. Very bad opinion about that airport. They should invest more. It is better to choose another airport for sure.
Lina Z — Google review
Possibly the worst airport ever. Not big enough, not enough toilets. The toilets available barely work and are filthy because of the amount of people needing them. Some of the staff are super moody. Not enough seating, cafes or anything. Super hot and stuffy. Glad to be out of there - finally!
Jasmine R — Google review
Should not have so many flights going out from here. It’s far too busy, there’s no seats, no working charger points, patchy WiFi, not enough restaurants and cafes to accommodate people. The video below shows the majority of the airport after security, there is stairs leading to another security checkpoint and there’s people seated all up and down the stairs as there is no where else to sit

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport

International airport
Airport
Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, named after the local engineer and Nobel laureate, is conveniently located just 4 miles from the center of Bologna. It offers direct flights to various European cities as well as internal flights within Italy. The airport has excellent transport connections, with a bus departing for Bologna every 11 minutes.
A small cozy and comfortable airport with a very good lounge, not too much to offer, but comfortable to sit around. Have a nice coffee, some croissant, some wine, a very close fast track area.

Was very disorganized and ill equipped to handle complications such as flight delay and cancellation. We were placed in the hallway to the plane that was uncomfortably hot (33+ degrees outside) for about thirty minutes with no communication. There were many families that had to sit down in the ground with their children because it was like a green house in there. The helpdesk lady didn't speak much English, which was frustrating when our SAS flight to Copenhagen was suddenly canceled and we wanted information. The staff aren't the most polite, but that might just be an Italian culture thing, as I'm used to more delicate customer care. The area past security was very packed, so it MIGHT be smarter to go through security closer to your departure instead of 3 hours before, like we did. There was an area with a crazy line because they weren't using the dividers properly, but they got very upset when I tried to film the line.

I had an early flight and discovered that after midnight, there’s no public transport from the main train station to the airport except taxis. So, we took the last Marconi Express to the airport. Unfortunately, the waiting area was far from comfortable—no cozy chairs to rest in, and the existing seats were deliberately designed with fixed armrests to prevent passengers from lying down. There’s no lounge available either, and in this situation, I’d have gladly paid for a comfortable spot to relax for a few hours. Overall, it was a dreadful experience with poor service. I hope to never repeat it.

Nice airport. Sufficient food and drinks options. Behind security there are many shops. Airport is open 24/7. When traveling from the direction of Lippo there is no pedestrian walkway and you must take a bus or taxi. Good connections to city center.
Pascal W — Google review
We arrived at the airport late like 1am. The taxi queue is long however it is still possible to get a taxi if you wait. You can also use Uber. It was about €37 from the airport to somewhere near Bologna Centrale station. There are water fountains after passport check. On our way out, we saw a carrefour so it should be quite convenient.

You can check my profile. I've traveled a lot, and I've never been in a worse airport than this one. There's just not enough space for all the people they are cramming into this place and not only that, the air conditioning is inexistent. It's not only claustrophobic and suffocating but I think it's simply not even safe. I'm thirsty and it's impossible to buy water in the waiting area next to the gates due to the excess of people lining up on every store. There's no space to sit. I ended up having to sit on the floor next to security. Never come here.

I wish I could give -5/5 AND PLEASE TAKE A TAXI if you can!!!! My rating is solely focused on the god awful monorail - Marconi Express! They charge 25 euros for 2 people and provide BUSES. Then there is a person who just makes you buy the ticket without any explanation for how much the ticket is and how long it will take for the bus to come. Then the horror continues because every bus obviously cannot hold as many people as the train can, so you wait for at least 45 minutes in a line along with the sun burning you and the flies sitting on you. Buses do NOT have enough seats. Do yourself a favor and pay for a taxi! Which we also tried to do but these TPer tickets are NOT refundable, in anyway possible - their website literally recommends you to take another means of transportation if you have an appointment somewhere, just awful! Overall just don't arrive at this airport if you want to visit Bologna. It's not possible to reach the city with their horrible connection. EDIT: the replacement bus is single most squeaky bus I have ever taken in Europe, and it is as shaky as an Auto-Rikscha in Asia (see attached video) PLEASE TAKE A TAXI if possible 🙏🙏🙏

🚄 Just 15 mins from Bologna Airport to city centre via Marconi Express! ✈️ Breeze through security—even with 2 bottles of wine (thanks to the new EDS C3 X-ray machines) and enjoy pasta with runway views! 🍝👀
