Akrotiri in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Akrotiri, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Akrotiri, on a peninsula just southwest of Limassol, is known for its large salt lake, where migrating flamingos and other birds can often be seen in winter. The area combines long, flat beaches such as Lady’s Mile with important wetlands like Akrotiri Marsh, popular with nature lovers and birdwatchers. Nearby cultural sights include the historic Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas of the Cats and easy access to the ancient city-kingdom of Kourion, one of Cyprus’s most significant archaeological sites.
With favorites like Akrotiri Marsh, Ryan's Bar & Grill, and Holy Monastery of St Nicholas of the Cats, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like The Swan Akrotiri and Ryan's Bar & Grill so you can get the best taste of Akrotiri while you’re here. Beaches
Lady's Mile Big Beach is a long, shallow beach located near a bird-rich salt lake. It offers sun lounger rentals and seafood spots for visitors to enjoy. The beach has clear water and plenty of space, making it perfect for relaxation. Depending on the location along the beach, the terrain varies from shingle and pebble to sandy areas. The nearby salt lake adds to the unique charm of this special place.
Ladies Mile Beach is hands down our favorite beach in Cyprus! It’s always clean, well-maintained, and perfect for families. The calm, shallow waters are ideal for kids to play safely, and the beach is serviced with sunbeds, umbrellas, and nearby restaurants, which makes the whole experience super convenient. Whether you’re there for a relaxed day in the sun or just a peaceful walk by the sea, this beach never disappoints. Highly recommended!

Nice beach with a safe ocean level, not crowded, enough parking spaces, clean sea, morning and evening time it's more beautiful and you can enjoy the snacks party with family and friends in the car 🚨

Very nice place to have a day with the family. Best beach in Limassol. Free entrance, only 10 eu per sunbed.
Ron E — Google review
Great little beach with a number of bars and resturants dotted down it . Soft sand and shallow water makes it ideal for the kids to play safely. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Only negative is the dirt track road you have to drive down to access the beach by car!
Ben V — Google review
The beach is very large and has several beach resorts, the water is clean, it is a bit windy. If you have time I recommend you to do a complete tour of the Akrotiri peninsula, around the Salt Lake, because there are some particular and beautiful landscapes.
Erminia — Google review
Well its a nice beach 🏖️ not too deep but with sea currents which is dangerous. Also when weather its windy the sand it's all over you in your face etc. Recently almost all the restaurants (except two i think )where renovated.Just knows its too expensive and maybe some off them its only for younger people...
Airin C — Google review
Sod the beach and head to the salt flats! Take your shoes off and go running in the crystallised mud.. it's amazing.
Paul W — Google review
Relaxed vibe and beautiful coastline! Lady’s Mile Beach is perfect for a peaceful day by the sea. The long stretch of sandy beach, shallow clear waters, and gentle waves make it ideal for families and swimmers. Plenty of beach bars and restaurants nearby, yet still feels calm and uncrowded. A great spot to unwind just outside Limassol!

Akrotiri Marsh is a hidden gem in the heart of the UK, offering a tranquil and beautiful nature preserve perfect for birdwatching and reconnecting with nature. It's an amazing place to visit, especially for families with kids who can feed the friendly animals like cows, horses, and donkeys that roam within the fenced area. The marsh provides a peaceful and quiet escape, making it an excellent spot for relaxation and birdwatching.
The Akrotiri Marsh is the ultimate relaxation spot for nature enthusiasts and animal lovers. It’s my favourite place for relaxation in the city! Also has an amazing spot for birdwatching.
Nikoletta P — Google review
Akrotiri marsh lies within Akrotiri peninsula which is a British base area used for military operations. The marsh has more or less been preserved in its prime condition and local flora and fauna thrive in the area. Some parts have been fenced off though and cattle is reared. Take care while driving since the road is narrow and winding.

If you’re looking for peace and you don’t mind the smell, this is the best place for you! Friendly dwellers 🐂 are welcoming while they are comfortable in their own space. 💩🙊the nature there is so peaceful and quiet. 💚

Picked up 3 lifers, in two visits, Great spotted Cuckoo (Juv), White throated Kingfisher, and Little Bittern. Utterly delighted, seen from the tall hide as you arrive from the Eastern side. Many Thanks to the custodians.

Very peaceful and beautiful place to watch the local nature in the Cypriot marsh lands.
Paul F — Google review
Beautiful place!! Something completely different from what you can see in Cyprus.. Loved it! Great work from people taking care of this place.. 🧡 Nature!!
Melina T — Google review
The marshes themselves are nice but whoever is responsible for leaving these poor donkeys tied up on the marsh land with no shade or water is not nice! Have been down there with water for them today and two days ago and all 3 drank the buckets dry. Breaks my heart and not a great advert for Cypriot tourism.
Kim G — Google review
Just looking at the poor skinny animals makes me not want to go there and I'm shocked by the 5-star reviews with the pictures of starved animals saying the place is "full of life". What's wrong with people? Is there no connection with nature at all no mercy?

Small but has lots of information and displays on the ecology of the area. Well maintained and great for viewing the birds.

The Akrotiri Environmental Education Centre is well worth a visit. Easy parking on site and a friendly welcome greets the traveller and there is plenty to see and explore inside. There is a superb view of the massive salt lake nearby the centre which is quite something to see so if you're after a great viewing location for the salt lake this is a good spot. Highly recommend a visit.

Absolutely amazing place, I love it! It's calm, peaceful and relaxing here. I think I would like to be there more often 🧡
Natasha S — Google review
If you want to see flamingos, don't go anywhere else, since there are no roads or paths to see them closer than here. There are 4 monoculars, where you can observe them, and it's all for free. I was lucky enough to see hundreds of flamingos, it was late March and were still here. Definitely recommend!
Aleksandra Š — Google review
Lovely stop for young children to learn about the animals and habitat around the salt lake. There are lots of interactive activities inside the well-maintained centre. We especially like using the provided telescopes to try and spot wildlife.
Khanh L — Google review
This place is free to enter and also has a few parking spots for free. They have tried to depict the ancient life in this region including flora and fauna. The highlight for me in this place is the outdoor deck where one can watch the flamingo's in the salt lake via telescope. This is an amazing view and if you are in the right season do not miss this. The staff here are friendly and answered our questions patiently.
Arun K — Google review
It's free to enter and the staff are very nice. We were able to see the flamingo on the salt lake using the telescopes on the balcony

Nestled in the tranquil surroundings of Akrotiri, the Holy Monastery of St Nicholas of the Cats offers a serene retreat with a blend of rich history and breathtaking natural beauty. Visitors are encouraged to bring wet cat food and treats for the friendly feline residents, some of whom enjoy human interaction while others prefer to be admired from afar. The monastery provides clean water for the cats, but additional water donations are appreciated.
Interesting place to visit and likely to be quiet as it is off the beaten track, not somewhere you would stumble upon. Recommend driving there. Otherwise, it’s well looked after and a peaceful sanctuary to take a break. Obviously there are cats everywhere, most are curious and friendly and this would be the reason to visit. There is a table of goods, perhaps locally derived and is run as honesty payment for anything you take. Doesn’t take too long to see most of what’s here but you could just sit and take in the peace. Good parking area
Philip L — Google review
Called in after hearing about all the cats here to see for ourselves. It's free to enter, they do close for lunch and may lock the gates to eat in peace, so be aware of opening times. There is a table with various gifts for sale and an honesty box for you to leave payment. Plenty of free parking and as soon as you get out of the car there are cats all over and are likely to come up to you straight away. Next to the car park are some cabins where the cats live, interesting to look at and see how the cats are looked after. The place is tranquil and serene and a nice place to reflect. With great views of the Trodos mountains. Not much to see here but if you like cats, plenty of cats then this is the place to visit.
Mark H — Google review
A lot of cute and friendly cats! The Monastery itself is nothing special, but 10/10 for the cats. There also was a bird that was meowing, but it was inside so we didn't see it.
Yanthe W — Google review
So many cats to see! There was a machine where you could get dry food to feed the cats, and some of them like to be fed but their houses have plenty of dry and wet food for them, so they’re by no means hungry. Some of the cats were chilling in their houses, others in some shade under the trees, but some of them were loving a lil scratch and stroke. And if you’re lucky, you might get to see the monastery dog too!
Paula C — Google review
It's a monastery alright, but the main attraction are really the kitties. I'd guess 100 at least, probably more like 200. If you come, bring some food and lots of time to pet them all. If you don't have any food, at the parking you can throw a coin in and food comes out. Take some out and being it to the others that aren't camping the parking space. Even if you're near the monastery, e.g. on the salt like trail, you'll find lots of kitties. For the feline lovers, this is heaven!
Heflamoke — Google review
Small monastery located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, which is best known for its many cats living here. There is no such thing as much to see. The sale of souvenirs and local products will probably support the supply of the countless stray cats living here. A must for every cat lover and animal lover.
Thomas B — Google review
Loved this visit- though the monastery itself was not open when it said it would be. The cats were extremely beautiful and the monastery dog came to see us. Would recommend bringing wet food- the dry food seems poor and they are bored of it aha. As soon as we opened the tin of wet food, 20 cats emerged from the bushes and swarmed us- amazing. Bought a nice cross ornament for €5.

Akrotiri Shipwreck is a secluded and adventurous spot near Limassol town, offering the chance to see a shipwreck and even swim for experienced swimmers. The road leading there can be challenging, especially in wet conditions, but the remote location provides a sense of isolation and tranquility. Visitors should take note of their route to ensure an easy return journey during daylight.
Nice little beach. Park your car at the tiny church and go further by foot, the sea and the Shipwreck are a 15 minute walk, you can't miss it.
Martina S — Google review
One of the best experiences we had in Cyprus! The water is very rough but some parts of the beach have these huge flat and non slippery rocks that you can lay on and enjoy the waters. 100% would recommend!
Marilena K — Google review
Certainly an off road experience to get to this and watch out for the sand by the edge of the sea as you sink fairly quickly. Over all experience was great fun driving there, very isolated, never saw another person. Beautiful clear blue sea and of course the shipwreck. Worth a visit
Deanne F — Google review
Nice place, worth a visit, can drive down there water wasn't too deep this time of year. Just make a not of the way you came in. Seen a few people driving back and forth trying to figure out how to get out haha.
Lucan — Google review
I was nervous coming up here because there isn’t a path marked out on Google so I didn’t know what to expect. But thank God for these helpful Google Reviewers who helped alleviate my worries, so I’m returning the favour! First off: don’t worry, it’s all fine and very manageable even with a normal car. It’s truly very secluded so the more you drive there fear sometimes creeps into you. But it will be worth it - though make plans to get out of there before the sun completely sets so you don’t have to struggle out in darkness. Time your journey well. Now, first, route your way to the St. george’s church that’s beside this. Some people say you can park your car and walk, but you can actually also drive. It is a dirt road but it’s actually not that terrible, just watch the ground as you drive there’s occasional little holes but nothing unmanageable. Use common sense to drive towards the sea. There isn’t a straight road so you might need to meander a bit, but you’ll get there. Just note that where the main shipwreck is there’s a lot of these pebbles, so obviously drive with caution once you’re there. I’ve uploaded pictures to show you the dirt road and the pebbled part so you can get a sense. I didn’t go close enough to the shipwreck cos I wanted to be able to get out before sun completely sets, but I’d definitely want to go back there again. It felt so serene and silent. Enjoy!
Teresa Z — Google review
Shipwreck as advertised, super quiet stony beach with no facilities. You will need to do some offroading to get there but worth seeing. Wreck close to the beach so you can just swim to it.
Michal P — Google review
Very nice place near limassol town to enjoy the shipwreck and maybe swim for persons that's know very well swimming. Be careful with the road because is unknown road. Prefer to go when the weather is good and the road dry because the road there is mud and many times car stuck in the mud. And another one advice prefer to go day and return when the light day is still up to sky because after is very difficult to find the road back. Don't scary if you see airplanes fly up to you is because the place there is keeping watch from England base. And is forbidden to fly a drone up to 15 meters. If you do it maybe England base try to warn you that you pushing there limits.
Anninos M — Google review
Well this shipwreck was on our list to see. It's offroad and it takes you over sandy paths with lots of sharp pointy stones. So drive carefully. You can park reasonably close by and walk along the shore towards the wreck. Would definitely not recommend to swim there. Sharp and pointy rocks in the water. Strong waves crush on them. Nice to go to if you're in the neighbourhood but not worth a long drive if your just there for some photos.
Jorita S — Google review
Once you’re next to the church, just use google maps for the way towards the shipwreck as there are hundreds of paths. It’s easy to get close to it even with a small car.

Nestled in the charming area of Akrotiri, The Swan Akrotiri is a delightful pub restaurant that promises an enjoyable dining experience. Known for its friendly and attentive staff, this cozy spot is perfect for families and pet lovers alike. Guests rave about the Sunday Carvery meal, particularly praising the tender beef that makes every visit worthwhile. While enjoying a game of football on TV, patrons can indulge in hearty portions of delicious food like their giant Pork Chop and Black Angus Burger.
THE BEST!!! Food, drinks, atmosphere….. always the best. We’ve been coming to The Swan for the past 12 years and we always have the best welcome. The food is delicious and the drink selection is fantastic. We came as strangers all those years ago and left as friends. Highly recommend! You really won’t be disappointed.

It was okay. Definitely nothing exciting but decently priced for the food you get. They catered to my gluten free requests and my husband said the nuggets were good. It’s €1.50 for the sauce so just keep that in mind. We also ordered milkshakes which is ultimately why we I gave them 3 instead of 4 stars. The milkshakes were super thin and had barely any flavor. My husband said his vanilla one tasted almost like just milk with a hint of vanilla. My strawberry milkshake tasted very faintly of strawberry and more so just milk. We were very disappointed in that for €4.50. Highly recommended adding some more flavor to the milkshakes. They don’t accept Amex cards. Overall, it was okay but we unfortunately won’t be back in a hurry.

Ryan's Bar & Grill is a delightful dining destination that has quickly become a favorite for many. With its inviting atmosphere and unique decor, it offers an enjoyable experience for all types of diners. The appetizer platter is a must-try, featuring crispy curly fries, garlicky mushrooms, and fluffy garlic bread that set the stage for what's to come.
Perfect steak, perfect food. We were served really well by the staff, and for steak, the prices are very reasonable not overpriced at all. Overall, I’m just happy with the whole experience. I used to come here when I was younger, and it’s great to see it still going strong with plenty of customers. Clearly, the business is a success.
Maria D — Google review
I have visited this place now three times and two out of three times was honestly spectacular! The appetizer platter is amazing with crispy curly fries, baked garlicky mushrooms, fluffy garlic bread and more and the pork knuckle is cooked to perfection with a side of amazing mustard sauce. However, the pork chop was tough and bland, same goes for the chicken souvli. The staff might be a little bit slow at times but it’s perfectly understandable. Price wise it is also great! Will come back again many more times for sure.

Amazing place/space! Located on a hill in Akrotiri, a few kms after Limassol, its atmosphere is magnificent! Overlooking the Akrotiri bio park and salt lake, the view is stunning! The steaks are beyond and cooked to perfection!
Krystallena S — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We visited Ryan’s Grill recently and it was hands down one of the best restaurants in town. From start to finish the experience was incredible. We began with the ribs, which were cooked to perfection — tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. After that came Ryan’s steak, and I can honestly say it was the best steak in town. Perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and bursting with rich flavour — absolutely out of this world. To finish the meal we tried the crème brûlée, which was stunning — smooth and creamy inside with a perfectly crisp caramelised top. A flawless dessert to round off an amazing meal. Beyond the food, the service really stood out. The staff are super polite, attentive, and professional, making us feel welcome right away. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for both special occasions and casual dining. A special mention to Daniel, who truly is the host with the most — friendly, genuine, and clearly passionate about giving every guest a great experience. We’ll definitely be back. If you’re looking for outstanding food, the best steak in town, and fantastic service, Ryan’s Grill is the place to go.

The fish and chips were cooked to perfection, crispy and flavorful. Wondefull view of the lake. It was a truly memorable meal in a wonderful setting. Highly recommend!

We had such a great experience here! The fish and chips were absolutely perfect – golden, crispy, and served in very generous portions. Easily one of the best we’ve tried! The restaurant also has some excellent vegetarian options, which was a big plus for us. Everything was fresh, tasty, and well-prepared. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality food and big portions! George was very polite!
Chryso E — Google review
Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had anywhere. Although Cyprus has an abundance of great food, a trip here is not complete for me unless I get to visit George’s Fish and Chips. George, family and the team are super friendly, and they serve a wonderfully and properly English battered fish, crisp, light and firm. The chips are chunky and fluffy, and absorb malt vinegar the way they are supposed to - paired with a buttered brioche bun, they make a great chip butty. I almost always get a battered sausage too, because why not? Proper chip shop sausages are not easy to find outside of the UK. They also have a great selection of those slightly obscure canned drinks that your favourite chippy back home used to sell, but nowhere else. For me, perfectly nostalgic. Can’t recommend this place enough - definitely worth the trip.

Driving past, this restaurant caught our attention, and being British, we decided to give it a try. I ordered the mixed kebab, while others in my group went for cod and chips and a chicken burger with chips. We dined inside, and to our delight, the freshly cooked meals arrived in less than 10 minutes. The table service was excellent. The food's quality was outstanding, with a freshness that made it truly enjoyable. In fact, we unanimously agreed it was the best fish and chip shop experience we've had in a long time. My only gripe is the distance from England, but the next time I'm in Cyprus, I'll make a special effort to revisit this gem.
