Nestled in the stunning Saxon Switzerland region, Königstein Fortress stands as a remarkable testament to over 400 years of history. This impressive fortification features more than 50 distinct buildings, creating a fortified town that offers visitors an extraordinary blend of nature, architecture, and historical significance. Just a short drive from Dresden and close to the picturesque Bohemian Switzerland National Park in the Czech Republic, it’s an ideal destination for those seeking breathtaking views and enriching experiences.
Fantastic and huge fortress that you must visit. Its really big, on the top of table mountaint.Paid parking (€8 per 3 h) is nearby, from there its about 15min walk.To get to the fortress you can go or you can use elevator. You can spend there 1/2 day there is a lot of things to see. Family ticket cost €38.

Simply the most amazing castle experience we have ever seen. We spent 4 hours but you could scip the reading and just go for the view in probably one hour and if you want to read and experience everything and eat here you can easily spend 6-7 hours.

The Hike up to this Fortress is amazing and a lot of Fun. It was well worth it to Hike up. You can drive your car to the Car park but that is no real fun. You have great views of the surrounding area. They have a bunch Restaurants where you can get Beer and Food. Lots of interesting History and Exhibits. This Fortres is huge. Really fun to explore the entire complex. We spend several hours up there
Terence H — Google review
Amazing structure, nice walk, beautiful views. Very interesting 😎. The not so good thing was the parking. There is a parking building in the base of the hill, but we went with my dad who has a disability and can't walk properly so we went up with the car, parked there and left his Disability ID in the glass of the car. No signal that says that u can't park there. And 5 min before get to the car to leave, this guy came in a car and left a ticket and just said "Sie können dort nicht parken". So we had to pay 55 euros ticket 🙄.

Königstein Fortress is one of the largest hilltop fortifications in Europe, with over 800 years of history. Perched high above the Elbe River, it has never been conquered—a true testament to its impressive design and strategic location. If you’re visiting Dresden, don’t skip this experience. I booked a combo tour with the Bastei Bridge by bus, and it made for a perfect day trip. You can also reach Königstein by bus or car if you prefer going on your own. The entrance ticket to the fortress was €12 and absolutely worth it. I also joined a guided tour inside for €6, which I highly recommend—it really brought the history of the site to life. The tour was in German, but if you ask, you can get an English audio guide, which is very helpful. The entire visit was informative, scenic, and well-organized. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, architecture, or just stunning views.
Elli H — Google review
Enormous! Plan for an entire day! If you stay in the area, you get a local visitor pass for public transport. Figure out a spot along the bus 241 line and park your car there (Struppen in our case). The bus takes you to the fortress, the return trip starts one stop down the mountain. Audio tour is free on your phone, a handset can be had for €2. Do NOT get an ice cream at the small stand on the eastern perimeter.. It is a tourist trap. Get a big smooth soft ice on the main square inside the fortress for less. We spent most of an afternoon walking around the outside of the fortress and regretted not taking more time for it.
Victor H — Google review
Beautiful views from the top. Tons of excebitions and history to read on. Needs whole day for full proper visit.
Ģirts B — Google review
Great experience. Make sure you’re ready for a lot of walking. The directions/signage could be better, so be sure to get a map to help you navigate around this vast site.

Nestled in a charming locale, the Gewölberestaurant "Happy End" offers an inviting atmosphere that makes it a perfect spot for dinner. Guests rave about the excellent quality of food and attentive service, all at reasonable prices. The menu features delightful dishes like succulent pork and mouthwatering asparagus wrapped in bacon, though some have noted that the sauce can be on the salty side. With quick service and a cozy vibe, it's an ideal place to unwind after a long day.
Cozy atmosphere, excellent food quality, helpful and kind service, comfortable and clean WC—nothing is really missing! A kind suggestion is to lower the heating a bit.
Kymvalon — Google review
Delicious food, even though a bit pricey, and lovely service! Totally recommended.
Chiara M — Google review
Food was great. Quick service. Nice ambiance.
Michael A — Google review
Great food, fair prices, accept credit card and paid parking just over the bridge (Vasily's review is a bit outdated)
Eldar A — Google review
Service was good. The soup was a little more salty but good. Radler beer good. What was not good, however, was the main dish. Burnt potatoes/ rosti. The food doesnt make any sense. Why add sweet annas to a side of chicken? The pepper sauce was made from powder. I definitely do not recommend it if you don’t want to feel like you have a stone in your stomach after the visit.
Ilona N — Google review
This was the weirdest meal I've ever got on plate - Königsteiner art schnitzel or something like that. Meal itself is just a nonsense - schnitzel, cauliflower, ham, cheese and Holland sauce. It's written on the menu but I didn't expect it in such a form. OK maybe people there like this kind of bizarre food. But my schnitzel was burned, side dish was burned and cauliflower too, so I was sad about this food. I don't really understand all those 5 stars reviews. Soup was fine, servis was fine.
Hanka Č — Google review
The sauce is a little bit salty, but the pork is great and the asparaguses with bacon taste fantastic!

Zum Musketier is a charming historical tavern that transports you back to the Renaissance era with its unique decor. Nestled in one of Germany's oldest preserved barracks, built in 1589/90, this restaurant features large solid wood tables and a cozy fireplace, complemented by original fragments of historic wall paintings. Open daily, it offers a rustic retreat right at Paradeplatz for those seeking hearty small dishes and quick service.
We stopped here to get a Beer. It's nice to sit outside and enjoy a cold Beer.
Terence H — Google review
Self-service, food was not bad. We sat inside the rustic restaurant, but there's also a beer garden facing towards the central buildings (housing museums, restored commandant's flat and other precious objects.
Jayjay V — Google review
Great spot for food if you are hungry, line was pretty long on a Sunday afternoon moving slow. Seating outside and inside. Washrooms available.
Paula H — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience at this place. A particularly rude staff member made the visit unpleasant — he was unwelcoming, openly rude, and clearly not suited to dealing with non-German speaking tourists. On top of that, the prices were absurd: €6.30 for a small, poor-quality cappuccino and similarly overpriced and dry desserts. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place if possible.
Artiom C — Google review
The interior is authentic and extremely cozy. The food was delicious, although the lentil soup was a bit too sweet. The bread was extremely dry. We were a little surprised that 2 glasses of soda (not bottled) cost 9.8 Euros.

Restaurant
Nestled in a charming and uncomplicated setting, Amtshof Pension und Gaststätte is the perfect spot for those craving authentic German cuisine. Known for its delectable schnitzels and hearty Saxon meat stews, this guesthouse restaurant offers a warm atmosphere that welcomes travelers with open arms. During my recent stay, I booked a cozy attic room at Amtshof on short notice while exploring the area near Königstein Castle.
We had a wonderful dinner here. We have limited German and needed a gluten free meal; the staff were very helpful and the food was excellent. Five stars from an Australian family!
Jonathan R — Google review
Staying at a nearby place, we were looking for a restaurant to grab a bite. We found this place on maps and decided to walk by and see if there was any place and they did! We ordered a stew and a schnitzel, which both were very tasty. It was a great meal to end the day for an affordable price too. Definitely recommend!
Misaki S — Google review
We booked at Amtshof rather late, but we got a small room at a decent price, close to Königstein Castle. The staff were really kind and helpful, they managed our late arrival at our check-in day, and we could leave our backpack at some place on the last day, while we were exploring nearby sights. Our room was in the attic, though, and unfortunately we often bumped our heads in the sloped ceiling. Some lights were missing or not operational, and one mattress in a double bed was 10 cm smaller than the other one (and my partner's leg). Otherwise the room was very clean and tidy.

We were looking for a place to eat after our visit to Koenigstein Fortress, and this was perfect. They were open on Sunday till 2 pm. Great friendly service and delicious German food. I recommend the jagersnitzel.
Timotheus K — Google review
Fantastically delicious, if you want to eat normal food, not pasta or pizza - strongly recommend. Ate only there while stayed at Königstein

Day 2

Center of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Elbe-Freizeitland, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Miniatur-Elbtal. All together, your day would be filled with about 5 hours of non-stop fun.

Elbe-Freizeitland is a fantastic riverside destination that promises endless fun for families and adventure seekers alike. Nestled in the stunning Elbe Valley, this activity hub features an array of attractions including climbing walls, thrilling water slides for kids, and boat rentals for those looking to explore the scenic surroundings. Visitors can embark on paddle tours or navigate through a climbing forest at the base of historic fortifications.
My 6-year-old loved everything. I thought we might spend an hour or two here, but stayed most of the day. We brought our own food. A 16€ entrance for one adult and one child seems like a good value to me. The only thing that cost extra was the coin-operated electric car track. That cost us all of 1€ for 6 minutes of pure joy.
Patrick H — Google review
We visited for the fire and light show. It was a super show. Fire from the volcano to start it off. The illuminations around the park were lovely and very well done. The evening finished with a great laser and fire display. It was also great value.
Chris L — Google review
The park is nothing special but good for 2-3 hours of fun. Our 6-year-old had a great time. Staff were friendly and helpful. Price is ok.
Stephen J — Google review
I would like to rate this place 3 stars. Why? 1. The price is not cheap for such small park. Some activities needs to pay extra. Not really good experience. 2. The maintainance of most equipment is not so good. Some of them seems long time no clean and maintain. 3. Activities are not enough. Good to stay but not recommend to come for it.
Zhen W — Google review
My kids (6 and 8 years) had so much fun that we went there again the next day, and the entry on the second day was free! Amazing! Very relaxed atmosphere, with an extra bonus of comfy lawn chairs for tired parents :)
Johannes — Google review
We go there almost every two weeks in each sommer. My kids loves this place and the spend very nice time there. Time goes very quickly as we enjoy it very much. Too many things to do and to try so you cannot finish everything in one day. Prices are very accepatble compared to what you get. Actionzone is amazing and have so much exciting things to do. The view on the Elbe and the mountens behind is breathtaking. It is just wonderful.
Amgad A — Google review
Way to overpriced for what you get. There isn't enough to do to keep you busy to justify the price. 10.30 am and half of the activities were still closed. There is a coffee vending machine, but you only get cups at the coffee shop, which was still closed.
K H — Google review
Amazing place for families! Lots of fun for kinds and sporty futures available. Cars, trums, watter balls, water boats, batuts, children's slide, numbers of Dresden's sightseeings layouts, and (!) an owls show where you can learn about the birds from instructor, see them as close as in front of yourself and even touch the birds! They also have the action park side, which was unfortunately temporary closed due some technical reasons. Besides that there are also camping territory with access to the beach of Elbe. Take a camera with you, go there on weekends, and you will easily spend 3-4 hours or even the whole day having lots of fun. P.S: summer terrace where you could grab some food was also temporary closed. Better call them prior your visit and ask if you can buy any foods inside, otherwise take something zum mitnehmen ☺!

Nice location to see the Elbe valley in miniature. Trains are riding, change of loc of a train in the border station is imitated in detail. The staff is very friendly. But some of the houses of the lay out are not very detailed, could be better. But it is certainly worth while a visit.

Staff was super friendly and we had a good time until we had to pay. We didn't realise there was a minimum of 25 Euro for card payments. This is illegal in Germany and should be reported (wettbewerbszentrale.de, Bank or call the police), which I mentioned to her. We don't carry cash with us. We were talked into paying an additional ~2,50 Euro to offset the transaction fees. The explanation was that they have "very old contracts" with high transaction fees. That's not the customers problem. Again, friendly staff which was also the only reason I didn't escalate this further. Next time the police should be called to settle it.

We had a pleasant time here. The service we received was first class. The staff are very friendly and I saw how they had time to talk to everyone. The food was lovely too. There was a good selection of food and we learned some interesting facts about the place. I also liked that there is a brief history of the Lilienstein in the menu. ALL the facilities are clean and well maintained. Everything comes up by a lift and the staff make the same climb up the mountain as their customers. It is a lovely place with amazing views.
