National park
Saxon Switzerland National Park, located in the eastern part of Germany near the Czech Republic border, offers a chance to connect with unspoiled nature and explore ancient architecture. The park covers 36.1 square miles and is part of the larger Saxon Switzerland region, which spans 274 square miles. It features hiking and biking trails, climbing areas, waterfalls, and tram service.
Amazing place to go. Highly recommend this trip if you are in Germany or Czech Republic. The views are worth the drive and hike.
Raj A — Google review
It's a truly magical place with majestic boulders, you're immersed in history and amazed at how unpredictable nature is at times. The view from the observation point is especially breathtaking, with a view of the entire valley and the river below.
Vita O — Google review
A small rock climbing place but busy with hundreds of climbers. The river and bridge are also beautiful. I say small because we have big cliffs in Australia.
Huahua X — Google review
Saxon Switzerland National Park is a great spot for a day trip. The trails aren’t too demanding, making it perfect for an easy hike through beautiful forest scenery. There’s a restaurant where you can grab a proper meal, an ice cream, or a coffee with a view. Lovely landscapes, peaceful atmosphere, and enjoyable for all ages — a really nice place to spend the day.
Luka G — Google review
Saxon Switzerland National Park is an absolute dream for nature lovers and hikers. Towering sandstone cliffs, lush forests, and panoramic views that honestly don’t look real—they’re that stunning. There are numerous hiking trails depending on your fitness level and time but don’t miss the Bastei Bridge. It’s a very doable hike. I suggest coming early to avoids the crowds and in the mornings if you are lucky you may see the clouds coming down. See my images
Koel G — Google review
It was a beautiful experience. So many trails to hike on and not enough time 🥲 I would want to come again! The park covers a wide area, and it could be hard to understand where to go. We first went around a little by car and ended up stopping at a few lookouts and trails. You can park your car at a certain point and explore the rest on foot. I would definitely recommend visiting the Bastei - the medieval bridge. It has an amazing view of the sunset and the rocks surrounding it leave you in awe. It would be better to drive to Bastei though after your hike in another part of the park; it gets dark pretty fast. We paid €7 for a 4-hour parking there.
HN C — Google review
Saxon Switzerland National Park is pure magic — a landscape where nature feels untouched and time slows down. Vast stretches of emerald-green forest cloak dramatic sandstone cliffs, creating a scenery so striking it feels almost otherworldly. Every path leads to views that take your breath away, from sweeping valleys to towering rock formations shaped by centuries of wind and water. The air here is remarkably pure, crisp, and serene, carrying the scent of pine and earth. Each breath feels like a renewal, a reminder of how healing nature can be when left in its raw beauty. The stillness of the park offers peace, while its rugged cliffs and winding trails inspire both awe and humility. Saxon Switzerland is more than a national park — it is a sanctuary of green, a masterpiece of natural artistry, and one of the most magical places in Europe.
Johnathan L — Google review
Saxon Switzerland National Park is renowned for the Bastei bridge which is a beautiful scene itself with rocks, great views and large forest . It also affords visitors with one of the best lookout points overlooking the Saxon Switzerland area. For the climber, the park is extraordinary because there are countless climbing locations with over ten thousand different climbing routes.

11m-wide arch in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains with the ruins of a 15th century castle on top.
Absolutely worth the visit. If you take a tram to waterfalls, don’t be fooled - the Lichtenhainer Wasserfall is not the main thing to see here. An easy hike about 45 minutes through the forest to enjoy the view from and of the Kuhstall, one of the main view points for the region. And definitely take a Himmelweg - stairs between two rocks, truly unique experience!
Jana K — Google review
the scenery is really beautiful and great for hiking. you can get there by bus 241 from the town, by easy route just go from Lichtenhainer waterfall. the mobile network there is very weak so if you go for the first time you should download a hiking app so you don't get lost.
Kai T — Google review
Interesting arch to visit and view. Good cafe to buy food and drink. A good place to stop at during your walk in this area
Paul A — Google review
One of the highlights of visiting the Kuhstall is the Himmelsleiter, a narrow, steep staircase carved into the rock that leads to the remnants of an old castle and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Another intriguing feature is the Schneiderloch, a small cave that adds to the exploratory charm of the location. Here are some of the notable trails: 1. Lichtenhainer Waterfall to Kuhstall - Distance: 1.5 km (one way) - Duration: 30 minutes - Difficulty: Easy This is the most straightforward and family-friendly trail, starting at the Lichtenhainer Waterfall. The path is well-marked and mostly flat, making it suitable for all ages. 2. Beuthenfall to Kuhstall - Distance: 1.2 km (one way) - Duration: 25 minutes - Difficulty: Easy Another accessible route, this trail begins at the Beuthenfall and offers a pleasant walk through the forest. It is slightly shorter than the Lichtenhainer route and equally scenic. 3. Kuhstall Circular Route - Distance: 4 km - Duration: 2 hours - Difficulty: Moderate This circular route begins and ends at the Kuhstall, taking you through the surrounding forest and passing by other rock formations and viewpoints. It’s a great way to explore the area more thoroughly without retracing steps.
Y. T — Google review
Its amazing The whole way and the top viewpoint is unbelievable.
Mahboob O — Google review
Nice and easy hikes from the parking lot. The holes in the rock formation and the tiny stairs offer a cool experience you won't get anywhere else.
Marc-André — Google review
Certainly worth the hike! It's beautiful with lots of places to explore, little side paths that lead to new views and breathtaking scenery. I recommend going on a less warm day, seeing as all the water creates a LOT of humidity.
LucidStateOfMind — Google review
Such a beautiful place and easy to get to. Around 1h return walk from the car park you reach the Felsentor Kuhstall. Great view but don't stop here! Walk inside the Kuhstall to the left towards the Himmelsleiter and follow that track (one way only). It's a great small stairs leading to heaven. When you get around the corner and walk down follow to Schneider Loch! Oh don't miss that. There is a small track left and one that goes straight ahead. Walk both but the stunning hidden treasure is on the track straight ahead. Walk to the end and here on the right is a very small entrance to a small cave. Go in and climb up the steps! Wow! What a view. Small cave with window is only big enough for maybe 4 or 5 people, way in and out 1 person at a time.

Lichtenhain Waterfall

3.9
(4537)
Scenic spot
Nestled next to the enchanting Lichtenhain Waterfall, this charming inn boasts a cozy half-timbered structure that exudes warmth and character. Guests can indulge in hearty meals at the rustic restaurant or unwind in the inviting beer garden, where friendly staff serve up delicious dishes alongside refreshing local brews. Families will appreciate the play area for children, while outdoor seating offers picturesque views of both nostalgic streets and stunning natural landscapes.
Delicious dishes in big portions. Tasty beer. Nice and helpful staff, good service. Decent price/value ratio. Free wifi. Play garden for the children. If you sit outside, across the street, on the terrace you can enjoy the nostalgic street view and the beautiful natural environment. The only downside is the traffic can get really loud and smoky on busy weekend days. Unfortunately smoking is also allowed everywhere. I still recommend having a lunch or a dinner in this charming place.

Gorgeous waterfall in a fantastic area of Germany close to the border with Czech. Very popular with the locals not so much with foreigners. The waterfall is free to visitvand is worth seeing if you are in the vicinity. Parking is close by too. Anotjet option is to use the historical Tram from Bad Schandau.
Ian W — Google review
The waterfall is a tourist trap. The inn on the side provides coffee of instant flavour for tourist prices. I was here purely for the hike towards the Kuhstall and the views. The tramway from Bad Schandau is nice too. If you get a guest card from accommodation in the area, it gives free access to the tramway as well.
Victor H — Google review
The route was very beautiful, but the waterfall itself wasn’t very impressive, as it didn’t feel natural. However, the surrounding forests make for an interesting hiking experience.
M S — Google review
Nice little waterfall but "spectacular" is overstating it. I've given three stars to balance other reviews: an attractive setting, though, and there's a nice cafe that deserves a visit (and your money!)
David B — Google review
I was disappointed at first to see it with very less water, but later I found out they stop and start the water from time to time just to allow visitors to see it full water.
Mahboob O — Google review
After 3 rainy days no waterfall at all. Maybe onthe the tram deserves the attention, but not the waterfall
Vilmantas A — Google review
Honestly, no waterfall more like water dripping down the stones. There is a café next to it, I have no experience of the food but honestly you can see it is so overpriced

Carolafelsen

Scenic spot
Carolafelsen is a must-visit gem in the Saxon Switzerland region. It offers one of the most stunning mountain views, making it an unmissable opportunity for anyone in the area. The climb to reach this viewpoint may take some time, but the effort is truly worth it once you witness the breathtaking scenery from the top. Many visitors recommend taking the trail on the left side for a more dynamic and enjoyable ascent.
We chose the trail road in the picture, it took two hours with a few stops. Really suggest to climb up from the left side of the trail! Right one had much more steps and view during climbing up didn't seem so dynamic compared to the left one. It was a really nice end of winter walk :)

Loved it! Went there from Schlimka and decided not to go to Bad Schandau over the Wilde Höhle. I think it was a huge mistake, because I made a really long round tour.

Schrammsteinaussicht

4.9
(1526)
Hiking area
Schrammsteinaussicht offers a thrilling hiking experience with breathtaking views. The trek involves climbing ladders for an unparalleled panoramic view, making it an exciting adventure for those unafraid of heights. It's advisable to avoid wearing uncomfortable clothing like jeans and to carry plenty of water, especially in the summer heat. Parking options include Wanderparkplatz (free) and Ostrauer parkplatz (paid), with early starts recommended on weekends to avoid crowds.
Awesome moderate hike. Trail can be a little confusing but with google maps you can find your way to and back home. Parking can be tough depending on where you park. Overall, a great experience. Definitely hit this moderate hike. There are steep stairs and some scrambling. Requires some coordination. I hike it in running sneakers.
Jason W — Google review
Very nice hike up here, but busy even on a Friday at 14:00 (on a bridge weekend).
Harvey W — Google review
One of the most enjoyable treks with a breathtaking view of impressive rock formations. You can get to walk on top of the rock formations, it is a true adventure! You will need to climb ladders and bunch of stairs, so bring sneakers, some snacks and plenty of water.
Bren S — Google review
Schrammsteine is a striking rock formation in Saxon Switzerland, famous for its jagged peaks and challenging hiking trails. The area offers spectacular views and exciting routes for experienced hikers and climbers. It’s a must-visit for those looking for adventure and breathtaking natural scenery. The trails can be steep and demanding. Along the way, hikers can enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding forests and the Elbe River valley. The unique rock formations and well-marked paths make Schrammsteine a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Marta A — Google review
Für mich eine leichte Tour, obwohl meine Kondition...I took the Malerweg/painterhike, scenic, only with a small part secured by ladders and stairs. They end in a trail with a beautiful view above the river Elbe and the boulders.
Brigitte B — Google review
Nice place for hiking. When you plan visit the place with car, there is 2 good parking places: Wanderparkplatz ( nearest and free) and Ostrauer parkplatz (paid place) On weekend is good idea start hiking earlier. Less crowd and you can find parking place for car. In National park is different trails, so you can choose your own trail. Highlight is the views. Some places could be tough, when you dont have walking experiences. But National park is awsome.
Aimar J — Google review
We did a 5h hike, had a blast! Be careful before going, some circuits are more difficult and would need a bit of climbling. Check hiking apps to find the path that is best for you.
Agathe — Google review
Great walk. The path becomes steep at the end and there are quite a few stairs and ladders to climb on the way to a nice view of the area, however the best part of this walk(for me at least) is the early parts of the hike where you are surrounded by the woods. It is very pretty and quite peaceful. All of the signs are in German however it is possible to find your way of you do not speak German.

The historic elevator in Bad Schandau, built in 1904, stands as a remarkable blend of Art Nouveau design and innovative engineering. With a height of 52.6 meters, it offers panoramic views of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. This unique structure not only connects visitors to scenic forest paths but also represents a seamless fusion of history and modern functionality. A must-see landmark for travelers seeking beauty and heritage. I strongly recommend this place for the visitors.
Akbar S — Google review
It didn't leave a big impression, my summer is nicer than winter. The price is 3€ just to take the elevator up and down.
Jonas D — Google review
Fantastic historic elevator that has amazing views of the Elbe River and the nearby town of Bad Schandau. Nominal fee and a short scenic elevator ride. There is also a café at the top which for me was a great place to have a German beer.
D M — Google review
Go up and take a look at the wonderful houses in the town on the right of the elevator: Ostrau. At the top of the elevator there are a couple of hiking trails that lead you straight into the Swiss Saksonia natural park. At the top of the elevator is also a little cabin where you can have a drink and eat something. You should see the elevator as a means to not have to walk up the hill.
Sophie J — Google review
It was a life time experience to go up in the Historic Elevator. Amazing scenic view from top of the mountain. River flowing on one side and Saxony Park on the other side. Having snacks in Bad Schandau was top was a good experience.
Khalid H — Google review
So the elevator is very old - so expect some little shaking when going up. But the view is amazing and you get to see The Valley of the Elbe River at Bad Schandau :-) Worth going up as there is a lynx area caged too . Also there is a little terrace cafe for coffee and cake - they only take cash. Enjoy this trip going up

Interesting and long, but a little bit slow, historic tram line along the road, river and the national park, so you can admire the views from windows. Free if you have Deutschlandticket or 5 Euro fee. Also you can do some hiking and return to the city by tram
Dmitry A — Google review
Nice journey into the forest by tram! The tram starts from the car park of the small town "Bad Schandau". The town itself is quite calm and relaxing and the tram route is also quite nice offering great views of the rocks and the forest alongside the river. I would not say it's extremely scenic and is a must to do activity here, but with kids it's fine. If you love to trek, you can ignore this. Remember that they only accept cash and the ticket will be sold at a reduced price if you have a day ticket for all Dresden zones.
Chitrang A — Google review
Funny and nice green road, small waterfall but nice place to have some fun and enjoy nature
Mahdi S — Google review
Funny experience riding with this old little tram. Be aware that it will be full to the brim most of the time, so I recommend using it early in the morning to avoid big crowds.
Niek J — Google review
This tram line is advertised as a touristic place of interest which is simply a lie. This is a totally standard tram line, goes next to a regular road, it does have a forest on both sides but sorry, nothing special about it. If you read about it being a tram in the mountains or something like that, just forget about it. A REGULAR tram, that's what it is. Wanna spend around 10 euro for it, hi bu car is better
Faure E — Google review
The tram reached very nice hiking areas. We went to Schrammstein. A short hike og 30 minutes and the most amazing view. The tram is a bit expensive, though..

so very nice and welcoming staff, the waffel is good AND pretty, the linsensuppe was fresh, hot and tasty. seating is only outside, but glühwein helps! open on weekends 11-16oclock.

Had the pasta with tomato sauce and a bockwurst. Would be unfair to call it food. The pasta was cold and not freshly cooked which gave it this slimy taste. The sauce tasted like something out of a can. And cold. Price for the pasta was astonishing 12 €. The sausage was also cold and full of water - probably from being cooked hours before and stored. 7 € for the sausage with a brötchen … Level of cooking among the worst I have experienced - and that’s a lot.
Esben N — Google review
If I could give less than one star, I would. In June 2023, after a solo hike in the mountains and almost getting lost a few times, I was practically starving and in need of water. I wanted to sit down and have a meal but I was denied by a fellow wearing a kilt and a flat cap. He pretended that he didn't understand English and treated me, not like a customer, but almost like a beggar. Despite me looking clearly distressed and trying my best to politely communicate with him, he told me to wait after ordering a bottle of water then just left. He was even angry that I tried calling a lady who I saw in the small shop to get served. When I asked him if I could order a meal, he claimed the restaurant was closed even though I could clearly see people eating there. I wonder if that's how you treat all your customers, or is it only those who aren't white?

We attended the Christmas night ballroom dance and had a lovely time. The ballroom is beautiful and has a really nice floor. The music was good. We discovered dance by chance and went because we were staying nearby. We will be going back next Christmas. Update we have been coming every year for the dance except during covid.

A shame about the racist staff in the restaurant, which completely dampened my entire experience with this establishment. No amount of excellent reception service or quality rooms would warrant 5-stars if they employ someone with the audacity to express contempt for someone who has trouble with the German language. In this day and age, with the globalisation and internationalism of travel, tourism and the need to establish excellent reputation on a global level, you have my one star. A note to future international travellers: avoid this establishment. Unless, of course, they would have reprimanded or fired the racist staff already.
Natasha — Google review
A hotel that forgot how to “hotel”. DEFINITELY NOT a 4-star in terms of service or amenities! The price is a con for what you get. Especially as everything was either “booked”, out of service or very falsely advertised. Some staff very friendly but on the whole they could REALLY use a course in how to run an average hotel. This would be a step up. A 4-star should have trained personnel who understand tourists. We felt odd during our stay and certainly not fully comfortable.

Great Spa. Watch out though, it appears to be closed on Sundays. Decent breakfast, rooms were clean. Right opposite the historic elevator which is a great place to take in the golden hour with a nice beverage 🥂

We were not pleased with our stay. It is a nice hotel, with nice rooms and a park. BUT there is no aircondition and the air inside is just hot and heavy, even with the opened window, the air just woudlnt flow inside the room. Same for the winter-garden, during lunch it was hot and humid like a greenhouse! Restaurant- we came there to get some lunch at noon. The restaurant was empty and no waiter came for about 15 minutes- when I went to ask to the kitchen, they told me the stuff was having lunch! Well good for them, at least someone was getting something to eat! Then we had to wait 30minutes (!!) for two soups (I had to come to ask about it twice and after 30minutes they told me they had different kind, that the waiter told us they had...) But the worst part of all- the water running from our barhroom sink was stinky with white flakes in it! It stank everytime during our 3day-stay. And I got keratitis (inflamation) in my eye from it! We payed extra for a children bed- they gave us some older travel cot , with very hard thin mattress. For such a pricey-fancy-looking hotel I expected more. Or at least normal drinkable water...

Restaurant review. I can't really say more then average. The food arrived very late(50 minutes after ordering), average food, and pretty good service. Doesn't deserve more than 4 stars in my opinion.

Restaurant review: Staff was very friendly and accommodating, empathetic to kids and kids friendly. Children's food was quickly prepared and with attention to details. Location is nice, prices average, food was good.
Vojta C — Google review
Nice location, close to the park and the very picturesque tourist train (Kirnitzschtalbahn). The food was good, and the atmosphere nice, except a group of very loud men watching football next to us. The owner had no intention of asking them to keep it down for the benefit of the other customers, which was a bit lame .

Pretty pricey for normal-quality stuff, a regular Cappuccino was 4,80€ which is exepensive, especially compared to nearby places.

adter much tiring hike journey. do stop by at this restaurant ...they serve lovely dessert and German cuisine.

The service was nice but the food really wasn’t. The salad seemed like it had been in the fridge for a while, mushy dark green bits here and there and the dressing was not tasty. The “Currywurst” was just a bratwurst in tomato sauce, far away from what you expect when ordering this. The fries were ok though. If you go a bit further down in the city it’s much nicer places.

I had a baked potato and grilled veggies. It was very delicious. The service was also good and the personnel nice.
Stefania M — Google review
Cozy room overlooking the forest, friendly and welcoming staff, good breakfast, great starting point for the trails. After a day long hike you can grab a pint and a meal at the restaurant (it seems everything comes with the same salad ;)) If you're travelling without a car be prepared to walk circa 5 km to the shop or take a bus for eur 2,30. WiFi not reliable. Overall, a good experience.

Ruggedly beautiful area with good infrastructure, and the local tourist department is doing its best to promote it, but it seems that many of the locals don't want to actually have tourists visiting here. Felt extremely unwelcome even though I speak quite fluent German. If you want to catch public transport in this area then sometimes there is no other option that walking along the road to get to the nearest stop. Don't expect car drivers in this area to leave you much space and keep in mind that the edge of the Kirnitzschtal tram extends about a meter out from the edge of its tracks. From my limited experience, many local drivers refuse to slow or stop for pedestrians even at designated crosswalks, so watch out.
Stuart M — Google review
I was there few days ago wanting to know some tips for climbing in the region. Miss Romana was very nice to me and she recommended local areas, parking tips and routes. Her advice resulted in an amazing weekend I spent with my friends in the rocks! I wish there were more people like her.

Schrammsteine

4.9
(326)
Mountain peak
Schrammsteine is a stunning peak in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, offering challenging climbing routes and breathtaking lookout points. The hike to the top provides an opportunity to admire the unique blocky silhouettes against the blue sky. However, it's important to note that the last kilometer involves climbing via ladders and stairs, making it quite difficult. Currently, access may be restricted due to wildfires in the area.
Here's a detailed trail guide: • Length: Approx. 12 km round trip (depending on the starting point and route taken) • Difficulty: Moderate to challenging • Duration: 4-6 hours • Starting Point: The trail typically starts in the village of Bad Schandau or at the Schrammsteinbaude parking area. Bad Schandau is a popular base for many hikes in the park, and from here, you can either walk or take a bus to the trailhead at Schrammsteinbaude. The hike can also be started from other nearby locations like Ostrau, depending on the specific route you choose. 1. Schrammstein Viewpoint (Schrammsteinaussicht): This viewpoint is the main highlight of the hike, which is one of the most famous vantage points in Saxon Switzerland. From here, you'll have a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Elbe Sandstone Mountains, with the Elbe River meandering through the valley below. The viewpoint is reached after a steep climb involving ladders and metal steps attached to the rocks. The final ascent requires a bit of scrambling, but the effort is well worth the stunning views. 2. Schrammstein Ridge (Schrammsteinkamm): After reaching the viewpoint, the trail continues along the Schrammstein Ridge, offering a thrilling walk along narrow paths with steep drop-offs on either side. The ridge itself is a series of jagged rock formations that create a dramatic skyline. This section of the trail is one of the most exciting and challenging parts, requiring surefootedness and a head for heights. The path is secured with handrails in some areas, but it still demands caution and concentration. 3. Wildschützensteig: This is an alternative route that can be taken during the hike, adding an extra level of adventure. This steep path involves climbing up iron ladders and navigating through narrow rock passages. It's a more demanding option but provides a unique experience of the rugged terrain and offers additional viewpoints along the way. 4. Schrammsteinbaude: On your return, you can stop by Schrammsteinbaude, a cozy mountain hut that serves as a rest point. Here, you can enjoy traditional Saxon cuisine and refreshing drinks, perfect for recharging after the hike. The hut is conveniently located near the trailhead, making it an ideal spot to end your adventure before heading back to Bad Schandau.

My first hiking experience in Germany was great. The trail has some steps and metal ladders, but it's worth it. At the end, when you reach the highest point, you’ll see the breathtaking view, and you will enjoy it. Bring water and snacks and wear good shoes.

Such an awesoem Hike. We had a snack and Beer at the Schilkaer Brauhaus. That prepared us for what was to come. Such a fun hike. We had such a good time making our way up there. I can't wait to do it again. Take plenty of water with you. Wear proper shoes to make this journey. Well worth it if you are into Hiking. Don't rush and take your time.

Great hike with a lot of steps and metal ladders to climb. Takes about 1.5 hours to reach the top. But the amazing view at the top is worth all the effort

Beautiful place 🏔️ 50 minutes away by car from Dresden 🚙 and it takes one hour to reach the end of the hike ✅ (perhaps more for those who enjoy taking photos and breaks). Bring along some beer or food to relax and enjoy the view from the top 🙋🏻‍♂️

Stunning place. Where do I start? The bread is excellent. The beer they brew is very good (Try the Biobock) and they have nice cakes and pizza/quiche. Overall the crowd was very nice, with a good mix of all age groups and Czech/German people. It really feels the owners have created something special here. I'll definitely go here a third time soon!

Best stop in this place for short rest. Please note. This place is remote, surrounded by a national park, and next to international border. So probably this is the best place to eat around here. Come here to relax and enjoy the local Beer!! Pros: 1. The local beer is amazing 2. Cozy atmosphere, for the climate of the place. 3. Quick service. 4. One service person knew English, so it was easy to converse. Lows: 1. Food served is cold. 2. Lentil soup (linseneintopf) was sweet, and probably mixed with tomato ketchup. 3. Coffee served in as cool, even when served from the machine. 4. Onion cake might have tasted better when warm. We were served cold. But yet, the cold coffee and cold sweet linsen, spoiled the food-flavor for us.
Siddhartha S — Google review
Food is a bit overpriced considering the portion size. The coffee is just awful considering it's about 4€ for filter coffee, given they charge so much they should at least be able to afford some decent beans... But the area is very pretty, and perhaps they brew the best beer in Germany.
Harvey W — Google review
Delicious organic beer for €5 which is expensive for the area. The surrounding buildings are very quaint in a lovely town. Worth stopping on route to Czech republic. They sell huge slices of cakes that many people around is were enjoying.
Reveandrob L — Google review
I can only concur with the other comments. I have been here at least 4 times now and have always had a great experience. The food, sausages, Brotzeit and drinks set in the courtyard with a working water mill. Pure bliss, cheers team
Ian W — Google review
Beautiful venue! The bread is amazing, and so is the Linsen Eintopf (Lentils stew). But avoid the cakes, they are very dry and tasteless :( I tried with poppy seeds and with blueberries and it was a waste of money :(
Laurynas — Google review
Beautiful surroundings, and absolutely amazing beer. Tables are scattered all around the grounds, so you can eat next to the picturesque millhouse or with a view of the mountains. The menu is small but satisfying; I particularly liked the smoked trout.
Casey C — Google review
So many people are complaining about price... If you want cheap beer, go to any regular pub. You're paying for higher farming standards and local produce, while putting the money in the hands of smaller businesses. Organic stuff doesn't magically taste better. It's about trying to spend your money in a way that does less damage to the world. Having said that... It's still fairly cheap. Just not compared to regular mass produced beer. The venue is amazing, and really it's worth a few more euros to be in a nice spot. If you don't care about the venue, just buy supermarket beer and drink at home. Food quality is mixed, but generally better than other options in the area.

Pascha Döner in Bad Schandau is a small and unassuming snack bar that offers delicious food at an affordable price. Their kebabs are incredibly tasty, with options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. The portions are generous and well-prepared, ensuring satisfaction for hungry customers. Despite the quality and quantity of the food, the prices remain reasonable. It's a great place to grab a satisfying meal without breaking the bank.
Very delicious dürüm, with a rich filling and for a good price.

Bought some kebab here for lunch, it was the worst kebab I've ever had. The bread was soggy, the meat cold and tasted horrible, the sauce was tasteless. The salad was fine. I've had lots of kebab at different places but this is unacceptable and considering the price not worth it! I can't understand all the people who say it's good. I just hope I won't get any food poisoning from this uneatable piece of garbage! I will keep you posted on that.

I order Klein size and the kebab I got was super big to me. Wondering how big is normal or large size one
Yuseok S — Google review
Very small Döner place offering absolutely delicious Döner at a fair price. Got a normal-sized Döner for 3.80 € which ended up huge. Contrary to other Döner places I've been to, they add fresh corn and carrots which ended up tasting very good. The sauces are delicious. Scarce seating, so you better take your kebab home. A few other Turkish foods are available too.

The best food around, which the 3.9 rating shows some people are trying to hide. Fresh daily dishes — today was fish — as well as salads, kid food, cakes & the beer brewed across the street. Upstairs inside families, downstairs outside is surprisingly posh and romantic. Ferry to the s-bahn across the river also shown in photo.

Beautiful place by the river. Best meal we’ve had on our Malerweg trip so far! Also delicious vegan options with very grotendeels service! The restaurant is called cafe and bistro daheim.

We were a family of 4 and chose 3 different dishes from the day’s offer, and everything was great and was made and served quickly. The atmosphere was just perfect - sitting outside near the Elbe river and watching the ferry operation was so entertaining. Special thanks for the recommended non-alcoholic wheat beer!

Food was very decent, prices were super and it was a relief finally finding decent coffee from an espresso machine after many days in the area. Personnel ruined the experience, distant and indifferent from the start, main waiter drinking behind bar. Even though serving full dinner, they did not accept card, which was not mentioned, only written on half-wiped chalkboard. We initially did not have the cash, but wanted to think with the personnel about a solution. We were the second group this evening that had this problem. They referred us, hikers, to "the Czech Republic" or a town 6 km away. After we went around shops in town asking to pin for cash and were able to arrange something with other guests in the restaurant, the drunk waiter gave us change in 1 cent coins out of spite. Horrible experience, definetly would avoid this restaurant and pay extra elsewhere.
Tim S — Google review
Very disappointing café. The seller was rude and unpleasant, and charged €7 for an iced coffee in a disposable cup – an absurd and outrageous price. A truly unpleasant experience, not recommended at all.
Doron G — Google review
1 star because I cant give 0 stars. The waiter was really rude. When we were talking to him he was just walking around doing other things. When we wanted to order he just walked away. It was clear he didnt want to serve us. We left without ordering anything.

We had two ice coffe each cost 7 euro. They rip you off. Avoid the place there are other coffe shops up the street.

It was horrifying to see this kind of attitude toward a poor cat to who was just seeking for something to feed her kittens and herself. While the poor cat approached our table i wanted to give her a piece of my snack, the food I bought and was for me! But the barista suddenly appeared and rudely shouted at us that it is forbidden. It was shocking but since every place has it own rules, I just obeyed and didnt feed the poor cat. But this is not the end, the guy came and grab the cat from the neck and kicked her hard in the back🥺. I will sue to animal service but I highly doubt they give us the CCTV tapes. SHAME ON YOU!

I speak German so it wasn't a foreigner attitude. Food was barely acceptable. Service was really bad. Woman with black hair plus 40s attitude was really rude. No reason for it at all. Didn't ask for a discount at all but made her aware of poor service and food. She just said that's not what everybody thinks and walked off. No sorry for that hair, and dead fly in the food. Seriously. I'm not making this up. At least say your sorry. On vacation and didn't want to make a fuss but on second thought I should of. Just plain ignorant.

Always in a good mood, friendly and caring. We were kindly informed that there might be a bit of a wait as everything is prepared freshly and it is a two-man operation. The short waiting time flies by! The waitress ensures this with his friendly manner and a cool drink! The food, awesome! Freshly prepared, lovingly prepared and incredibly delicious!😋 We definitely recommend the “Sonnenuhr” and we will come back on our next vacation in Saxon Switzerland! (Translated by Google) We spent a very pleasant evening here today. The food and drink selection is sufficient. I had a hard time deciding, but in the end I opted for a salad plate with chicken breast strips and dessert...it was a good decision 😊 The service is excellent...friendly and very attentive. The food is freshly prepared and definitely worth the wait. We will definitely eat at the Sonnenuhr again. You should also make a reservation. Update...we ate at the Sonnenuhr again yesterday. It was excellent again...very friendly service, delicious, fresh food. Thank you all for persevering and opening again. Reservations are still best.

Nestled in a charming locale, Flößerstube is a delightful dining spot that promises an enjoyable culinary experience. With a menu that's compact yet diverse, there's truly something to satisfy every palate. Diners rave about the generous portions and the freshness of ingredients sourced from local suppliers, ensuring each dish bursts with flavor. The schnitzel stands out as a must-try, freshly pounded and cooked to perfection.
Tasty dishes and wonderful service-did not speak English but can manage to communicate anyway. Credit cards accepted :)

Terrible service! Came at 20:00, a waiter came to our table at 20:50. At 21:15 all the waiters went on a long smoking break and when they came back they said that the kitchen is already closed so there was no opportunity to order desert. We ordered the vegetarian Gouda dish with potatoes. The potatoes were undercookes and tasteless, and the Gouda was stored bought and reheated. Avoid if you can.

Waited a long time for service, some of the waiters were not friendly to non- German speakers

A very nice restaurant. The food is good and the waiters are super friendly and happy. Have eaten here several times and enjoyed it very much.

Service was great and friendly and loved the radlers! Unfortunately the food was more or less disappointment - reminded of something you put together in haste at home when you do not have a recipe in mind and just want to eat, so you just mix random ingredients you find. Filled the stomachs but seemed extremely low effort and the taste just was not there, so the meals did not feel worth the price. Had a nice visit in any case, even despite the wasps!

(Translated by Google) I've been here many times, most recently at the end of June 2025. The menu is small but varied. There's something for every taste. I've tried a lot of things, and so far everything has been delicious, and I've also been full (especially the schnitzel 👍). There's an indoor and an outdoor area. During holidays or in cold weather, you might want to reserve a table in advance, as it can get quite busy in the evenings. The staff are very friendly, mostly from the Czech Republic, and are noticeably in a good mood at work; you can often hear people singing and laughing while they work, which is very nice and testifies to a good, relaxed working atmosphere, although the focus is still on the guest. Breakfast is also available upon advance reservation. Everything is spotlessly clean, and I always enjoy coming here. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) Very tasty food, nutritious portion, ingredients taste good and as it is written in the Menu they really seem to be taken from local deliveries. Carrots are really tasty, cutlets are large, steak very well done served with a tasty pepper sauce (Original) Bardzo smaczne jedzenie, pożywna porcja, składniki smakują i tak jak napisane jest w Menu naprawdę wydają się być z okolicznych dostaw brane. Marchewki są naprawdę smaczne, kotlety duże, stek bardzo dobrze zrobiony podany z smacznym sosem pieprzowym

(Translated by Google) Very tasty food. Generous portions to fill you up. The schnitzel, for example, is audibly freshly pounded. (Original) Sehr leckeres Essen. Üppige Portionen zum satt werden. Schnitzel wird zb hörbar frisch geklopft.
