Fonti del Clitunno is a natural oasis with stunning emerald waters that have inspired poets and writers throughout history. It's a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle, offering refreshment from the summer heat. The area also features wooded trails circling a lake inhabited by swans and a noted restaurant. Nearby, visitors can explore the UNESCO-listed early Christian sanctuary, Tempietto del Clitunno.
Probably the most pristine and serene parks in the entire region. Must visit!

Nice little park, you can spend an hour here walking around and chilling. There's a bar and all the amenities. Prices are acceptable.
Feliciano C — Google review
the place was aesthetically pleasing, really well kept and loads of ducks and swans to keep you company. there was a nice track you could follow all around and walk in the whole park. the water sources weren't exactly pointed out but you can easily spot them. there was also a playground for kids. best place to walk your dog. only thing i didn't like was the entrance fee: it was only 3€ but why would i pay to enter a park? the water sources weren't that breathtaking or odd, there weren't any special features at all apart from a couple of crosses over the lake. so why is it necessary to buy a ticket? overall it was a nice experience. it's also wheelchair accessible but you can't go everywhere.
Elisa ! — Google review
A shame that this small, beautiful park is privatized and locked behind paid entrance. I only once visited the private park, but found it quite limited and the paid entrance didn't really make sense (although it's only 3€). The emerald waters of the Clitunno are really a wonder. This was once a large river: in roman times boats were able to navigate it, and its source was of strategic and religious importance. Seismic movements drastically changed the river which then became the stream of today. Particular minerals make the water mesmerizingly colourful. Good news! You can enjoy the scenery without entering the paid area. There is a nice free area that is of great beauty as well. Just keep on walking on the main road on the entrance side until you see a restaurant, and enter the natural area there. By the look of it, the park and restaurant area were clearly part of the same park not too long ago, but they've been brutally split with wire fences for monetary reasons. Also consider that there is a very nice free walking path, which runs on the bank of the Clitunno stream, between the enclosed park and the countryside. You can find it after the end of the restaurant free area path: just keep walking towards the countryside, then you will find a horizontal car barrier, get around it and enjoy the walk. All pictures I posted here come from this "free" visit. The area would really shine if they merged all these things together and

Really nice, wild fowls all over the place, some rare species can be found here, crystal clear waters surrounded by lavish vegetation, entry €3 per person but that's OK.

Castello di Pissignano

Castle
Castello di Pissignano, located in one of the districts of Campello, is a medieval castle built on a hill around the 9th century. Its triangular layout and well-preserved perimeter walls with powerful polygonal towers and two gate towers showcase its historical significance. The intermediate pentagonal tower, initially used for defense, later served as the bell tower of the San Benedetto church within the complex owned by the Benedictine community.
(Translated by Google) Medieval village, reborn after the damage caused by the 1997 earthquake. The origin of the site is Benedictine, then it passed through some dominions, not least that of Federico Barbarossa until, in the fifteenth century, the castle was acquired by the Trinci family, whose name it still bears. The town is entirely made of stone and, after recent restorations, contemporary works have been added to the ancient recovered structures in the alleys and small squares. The urban structure accompanies the orography of the territory and the buildings are arranged, from bottom to top (up to the peak, constituted by the castle) in parallel rows. Very suggestive. Near the entrance door there are some car parks, but it is advisable to leave the car at the first panoramic point to continue on foot (Original) Borgo medievale, rinato dopo i danni causati dal sisma del 1997.

I was a little late in visiting this place even though it was close to my home, in the end I made up my mind and was amazed by how enchanting it can be, everything has remained as it once was apart from a few artistic touches here and there to my liking, notable historical notes from those a small Pearl immersed in the green hill was responsible for the renovation. There is also a small restaurant, I didn't stop but I think it deserves a second inspection☺️..... The Temple of Clitunno is a small-scale, early-medieval Roman monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ceiling frescos. Located in the heart of the city, it played a pivotal role in the development of the area during the Middle Ages. The square where it stands dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries and features valuable religious and civil monuments.
If you're in the area you cannot miss the little temple of clitunno! A must for anyone trying to complete all the "longobards: places of power in italy" unesco sites. Nestled in the heart of Italy, Castello di Campello Alto is a mesmerizing medieval fortress that transports visitors back in time. With its fairy-tale charm and stunning sunset views, it's a photographer's paradise where vibrant colors paint the sky. The castle has been beautifully restored while retaining its rugged allure, offering enchanting corners and breathtaking landscapes to explore. As you wander through this impressive structure, you'll feel captivated by its historical significance and picturesque surroundings.
(Translated by Google) The Castle of Campello Alto is a fortified settlement with an elliptical shape located on the top of a hill halfway up the hill surrounded by woods and olive groves. The current appearance, very beautiful and evocative, is the result of a series of recent interventions but also of the presence of a luxury Relais, a widespread structure within the medieval village which occupies several houses (converted into apartments or suites) sharing the village with about twenty private inhabitants. The only entrance is characterized by a high door with a crenellated tower inserted into the city walls that extends over the entire perimeter which is almost intact and well preserved. The main square, paved with typical cobblestones, overlooks the feudal lords' palace and the 16th century church of San Donato. It is very pleasant to enter the few alleys of the village, walk among the houses to discover suggestive corners and views, narrow passages, small stone doors, stone stairs, etc. There is a church, a resort and some houses but there is no activity. The locals are very friendly! We asked them if there was a bar and they wanted to sit down to make us a coffee. Incredible but true! It preserves the medieval structure of the city intact with the walls that surround it and the access door, where the Church of San Donato is located and then for the rest...nothing!

I am revisiting Fonti del Clitunno - Ristorante Pizzeria e wine bar for a second time to enjoy an aperitivo and meet my boyfriend’s friends. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, providing a comfortable setting for our gathering. While the pizza isn't cooked in a traditional wooden oven, it still satisfies our cravings.
We were very pleased with our lunch on a weekday. The restaurant is comfortable, the staff welcoming and attentive to everyone, and the meal was well-prepared, well-paced, and delicious. Portions were ample and the prices reasonable. We had the strangozzi alla spoletina, grilled trout, and grilled lamb.

My family (two adults and one toddler) and I, plus a couple of friends, have been at “Fonti del Clitunno - Ristorante Pizzeria e wine bar” for lunch. We didn’t book, but it was easy to find a table since we arrived at 12.30. The staff arranged a very nice table close to the fireplace: Atmosphere & Place 5: We only experienced the restaurant. Thanks to the old-style furniture, the Spoleto festival posters, and the fireplace, the place is very cosy. The daylight gave the room a great atmosphere, and I enjoyed it a lot. A massive pain point is the quality of the restrooms. They are based on the upper floor, hence not accessible and not well maintained. The toilet is visible from the parking, and on top of that, the lack of hand sanitiser is not forgivable these days. Menu 7: We tried the suggested dishes such as the pasta with the black truffle, the fried tuna meatballs, the Fiorentina steak and the homemade tiramisu. To mention one of these, the tiramisu was a five-star dish. Service 6 ½: Everything was done according to the standard hospitality rules. We missed some empathy from the staff. Bill 5 ½: The wine was way too expensive. I would never choose a local wine for that price again.

3 euros to walk around a small pond. Ok its interesting to see the water bubbling a little, to indicate the underground spring, the (roadside) setting is not unpleasant, the 2 swans were ok, .. but that's it. And a few trees.

Delicious food, beautiful view and very nice service! Super recommended :) we will be back for sure, ps: the Millefoglie is the best one I’ve ever tasted. Thank you for the amazing lunch :) I suggest to park in front of the church and reach the restaurant by feet it’s a lot easier!

I think we must have been incredibly unlucky as the reviews are all fantastic. Firstly our meals were wrong or had things missing, I know because we had taken photos of the menu to check. Secondly we asked for water for the dog but we're told it was not possible despite the place listing itself as dog friendly.. Thirdly I ordered a beer and was told they had ran out. No alternative, no beer. We ordered a coke and a beer mainly because my pregnant wife didn't want to drink and were not even given glasses to drink them from. There was nothing remotely resembling what any of the reviews were suggesting with regards to food quality it was all incredibly bland. Must have been the chefs night off. The views were fantastic and a wonderful sunset, if you drive and have a large car I would walk up from the church. Edited. The response to this review 😂 We're not a pub? Apparently resteraunts don't serve beer now, except you did serve me beer politely.. Just only one, two was a stretch too far. Apparently sitting outside in the sun in 30+C and politely asking for water for the dog Is too much. I'm totally fine when places don't want dogs but why say you're dog friendly and can't provide even water? But then you say if we call ahead you will give us a blanket!? Make your mind up I thought you weren't a kennel.... Let me be fair, you did provide a wine glass so we could have drank the coke out of that, or perhaps we were suppose to drink our water up and use that glass, honestly the glass was the least of our worries it's was just surprising given the great reviews and didn't seem very in line with a resteraunt with a tasting menu. You have great reviews, there must be a reason for that but be humble when the standard drops maybe 🤔

We can also recommend the fantastic deserts and the wine. Beautiful Place! The Palazzo Comunale, a magnificent historical structure located in the heart of Foligno, was constructed during the 13th century and serves as the city hall. Situated at the crossing of four streets, this architectural marvel presents itself prominently to observers. In line with Romanesque traditions adopted for its construction, the Duomo is an integral part of this complex.

This 13th-century palace stands out prominently in the central Piazza della Repubblica, although its initial reconstruction took place between the 16th and 17th centuries, when it was enlarged to include the former Palazzo dei Priori and Palazzo del Capitano. It was rebuilt several times due to earthquakes, so much so that in the 1997 earthquake the lantern, also known as the torrino, the tower that tops the Palazzo Comunale, collapsed. It was restored after 10 years, and the columns surmounting a series of arches support the base on which the lantern then rises. (Original) I terremoti...

Church
Nestled in a charming hamlet, the Chiesa dei SS. Marco e Lorenzo is a hidden gem that dates back to the 15th century. Its gabled structure adds to its allure, while the captivating paintings from an anonymous artist in the early 18th century enhance its spiritual ambiance. This delightful church may not be widely known, but it offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere that invites visitors to explore its beauty and tranquility.

Exploring Umbria is always enjoyable, and while Castello di Acera may not have a grand castle, it captivates visitors with its charming small village atmosphere. Although there are no inhabitants at the time of the visit, the place exudes a sense of allure and uniqueness. It may be somewhat secluded but remains intriguing for tourists. Additionally, what stands out most are the warm hospitality and affectionate treatment received from friendly locals.
(Translated by Google) Wonderful village, perfectly rebuilt, clean and well looked after. Even though it is December, I imagine beautiful summer walks in an uncontaminated and evocative environment. Breathtaking views in a wild and silent nature, caressed by a light wind that gently rolls the yellowed leaves. Unfortunately, neither the church (deconsecrated?) nor the castle can be visited, which is now used as private homes. (Original) Borgo meraviglioso, perfettamente ricostruito, pulito e ben curato.

(Translated by Google) Very small medieval village dating back to 1300. More than a castle, it appears like a well-kept and preserved village, nestled among the hills on the slopes of Monte Maggiore, at an altitude of 970 m. Visited in autumn it seemed completely uninhabited... the only inhabitants were several cats, very beautiful, and I thought that surely some person must have provided for their support. Walking through the alleys I came across two churches, but everything was closed, and paradoxically everything was well maintained and renovated: perhaps the small village is busier in the summer. It is very beautiful to go up from the castle to Monte Maggiore, among large pastures, pine forests, truffle groves and pleasant views.

(Translated by Google) The village is located in the municipality of Campello sul Cltunno. It has been well renovated and has an almost single body called the castle. Originally it was a village that gathered around the palace and was surrounded by walls, inside which there was also a small church. The town is located on the slopes of Mount Maggiore at around 95 m above sea level, in a good position with respect to the passage of the sun which is present throughout the day. Exposed in a canal where north winds blow, it remains cool in summer but very cold in winter and with heavy snowfall, when like this year winter has also given a face to our green Umbria. From the town there are paths that unwind along the sides of the mountain. You can reach the town of Agliano via an easy mountain dirt road, crossing very pleasant mountains and valleys. Or crossing the Maggiore mountain you reach the other side where there are towns in the Valnerina area such as Meggiano.

In 1296 the Municipality of Spoleto had a castle rebuilt in the mountains above Campello, so that the dispersed families of Acera and Spina could find a hotel there, and sent a mayor there. Acera and Spina were two old villas, the inhabitants of which then came from Spoleto together in one place. Acera was the first villa in the Spoleto countryside that became a castle. In the provincial parliament held in Spoleto in 1361, during which some methods were established to raise the sum necessary for the construction of the Spoleto fortress, a tax of 10 sous was voted for each person over seven years of age: Castrum Acere contributed 15 florins. In the 14th century it had its own castellan. In the 14th century it belonged to Lanfranco Campello, also lord of La Spina where he owned a fortress in which he retired to live in 1417. The Acera castle was equipped with a Statute, compiled in 1505. In 1522 both Acera and Spina took part in the rebellion of the castles of the district against Spoleto. A first expedition against Acera failed, because Andrea Pianciani, who had his fortresses there, cut off the path to the Spoleto militias. The castle resisted for a few days then capitulated together with La Spina and the two fortresses remained, until 1860, under the jurisdiction of Spoleto After 1860 they were included in the territory of the Municipality of Campello sul Clitunno.

We decided to go to the tavern of the Spada district, also known as the Taverna delle Conce, where we could taste traditional Umbrian dishes accompanied by wine. The environment is very suggestive, wooden tables, earthenware plates, with tables lit by candles. Even the waiters are dressed in theme. We took: - Spread with beard and sage - Medici lombello with figs and restriction of verjuice (competitive dish for banquets) - Sunflowers stuffed with braised meat with kitchen bottom - Chianina morsels with plums, cinnamon, orange and ginger - Tozzetti with Vin Santo - Yellow-black tart: with ricotta, hazelnut cream and chocolate chips Personally, it was generally a good experience, especially the barbozza and the Tozzetti are the two dishes that impressed me the most. The morsels are special as they remain a mix of sweet, savory and citrusy. I wasn't convinced only by the tart and the other slightly negative note was the quantity/price. For the rest, I recommend going to the taverns even just for the various events and games, the atmosphere created is truly magical.

This review is only about the restaurant. We went here for a simple lunch with friends. Our main objective was eating truffles and this is exactly what we did. Most of the menu offerings have a "with truffles" version. We started with a simple bruschetta and scrambled eggs, both simple yet very tasty. As first dish we got the strangozzi with truffles and as second dish we were evenly split between sausaged and scottadito lamb (with truffles). I was the only one who got a dessert, a very abundant portion of zuppa inglese. Overall service was relatively fast and cordial, the dishes, while simple in preparation, had no flaws and they were very generous with the truffle, which is grated on top in this area. The truffles were summer black truffles. Prices are very modest for the offering.

(Translated by Google) Chosen by chance on the internet, we (family of 4) were immediately convinced by the images of the dishes and by the friendliness of the owner Armando, which was already evident on the phone. As luck would have it, it was just us at lunchtime which made everything more familiar on a gray and rainy day. We had some first courses, all different: gnocchi with ragù, pappardelle with wild boar in white, fettuccine with truffles and their penne al pace dell'acera. Armando also wanted to welcome us with some bruschetta to let us taste the typical oil from there and a couple of sausages. After the first course we chose to have dessert: two tiramisu (made with ricotta instead of mascarpone), tozzetti and romanella and thousand leaves. What can I say, everything was delicious and a super welcome, completed by Armando's wife, Caterina, and their two sweet little dogs Rocky and Camilla. It's worth coming back, even starting from Rome, like us. A circular tour starting from Le Vene leads easily to the charming village of Cammoro, then ascends to the peak of Monte Maggiore before continuing on to the pine forest of Pettino. From there, the journey continues to Spina Vecchia before returning to Le Vene via road.
(Translated by Google) One of the most panoramic peaks in Umbria, which divides the Valnerina from the Spoleto Valley. At the top there is a real natural balcony, and the summit plateau, surrounded by a hemicycle of stones, suggests the presence of an ancient high-altitude castle. The circular route from Acera Castle that climbs to the top of Monte Maggiore is pleasant and allows you to appreciate great views over much of Umbria up to the Sibillini Mountains, Gran Sasso and Terminillo. Valnerina

Valnerina, located south of Assisi towards Spoleto, is known for its charming villages and specialty products like fresh trout. In this area, villagers catch trout from the streams and cook it over an open fire, often serving it with truffle. The production of these specialty products is small-scale, making them unique to the region and not easily accessible elsewhere. For example, even in Letizia's village just 45 minutes away, the same quality of trout cannot be found.

"La pecora nera - Polpette & Co." is a unique restaurant specializing in meatballs, or polpette, offering a diverse menu including vegan options, gluten-free choices, fish variations, and delicious salads. The establishment takes pride in creating special al sugo meatballs using products mainly from the Umbrian territory. Despite some minor service hiccups during peak hours, the staff remains courteous and attentive.
I came here by chance, when I was walking around, just to have a campari soda. I am here for two hours 🤩 I was not very hungry so was offered some fish balls. Yummy. Service and atmosphere is so good. Price / quality is more than perfect

Very good tiny polpette eatery close to the scenic aqueduct path. I had the eggplant polpette and it tasted good! The service is quick and the prices alright. I did not like the 2 euro for "coperto" (it's something you get added only in Italy) and there were 4 smallish polpette in my salad. I'd rather pay 2/3 euro extra and have a couple more polpette in the salad, because the food quality is good and the service is quick. Just a suggestion.

Scrumptious! The restaurant was the only one that was nearby in the area we were in. As we went into the restaurant we get welcomed by a very friendly staff and ordering a ceaser salad and polpette. As these meals were very familiar to us we already knew how they would taste and didn’t expect much. But as we got our plates and tasted the dishes we were all shocked at how good these were. It was tasty, innovative, creative and underrated for what it had to offer. There is nothing more to say these dishes where scrumptious.

5 tasteless meatballs, in a worn enamel cup, with a paper inside to make look full 6.5euro. We sat outside in a small table and knife with fork , napkin 2euro. A bad review does not affect something that has become a tourist must I look forward to having fun with the answer and scientific explanation of the paper inside the cup.

(Translated by Google) A small but very cute and welcoming place. We ate outside with a splendid view of the aqueduct steps (one of the most beautiful views in Perugia). The food was delicious, all in the shape of meatballs. We had the cacio e pepe, pea, and ragù meatballs (I took the photo too late 😅) and the eggplant meatballs, excellent with the torta al testo (a kind of bread) for the obligatory mopping up of the sauce. For dessert, the tiramisu meatballs and the torta caprese (cake), all delicious. The staff was truly friendly and kind. I'll be back to try more meatballs 😊 (Original) Locale piccolo ma molto carino ed accogliente. Personale davvero cordiale e gentile. Tornerò a provare altre polpette 😊

Ristorante Le Casaline is a charming countryside restaurant located in the green territories of Campello sul Clitunno. It offers a tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal place to host wedding receptions amidst nature and delicious food. The restaurant is highly recommended by locals for its excellent and carefully crafted traditional dishes.
We ate here as we had been to their other restaurant in Spoleto the night before and had been impressed. We were treated like family. Nothing was too much trouble, food was exceptional, delicious little extras were brought to sample, great wine recommendation and beautiful surroundings. The family have owned the restaurant for 52 years. Great value for money and would highly recommend. Jo and Neil, Cambridge, England

As you walk in you know you’re in for a treat. The food (sirloin steak, eggplant parmigiana, gnocchi…), the wine (Montefalco Rosso, out of a wide selection) the excellent service (by Giulia) and the great finale (desserts and dessert wine, grappa, limoncello) made it a perfect first night in Umbria. Once Again.

Really lovely restaurant nestled in the hills of Campo Sul Clitunno. Beautifully rustic interiors and immaculately laid out tables. My wife and I ate here on a very quite Thursday evening in September, and were the only ones there for the most part We were served by a charming older Italian gentleman who provided us with excellent service. For starters we had an antipasto selection which came in 3 stages, first was smoked goose or duck, (can't recall as there were many plates) this had an intensely smoked flavour and served simply over a bed of leaves, next we had cured lamb carved at the table, this was one of the finest pieces of cured meat I had ever tasted, such concentrate flavour in each bite as if the best roast lamb had been squeezed into each bite, finally there were 3 additional meats, which were not as flavoursome as the preceding ones, bit very tasty nonetheless. Next we shared the ricotta and pinenut ravioli, which was vary tasty, the waiter also provided us with a sample of some salami which he had just carved for the only other table who had just arrived, paired with the ravioli this really brought out the flavours. For mains we had the wild boar Ragu, this was very similar to a beef bourgnoine, and one of the most delicious Ragu I had tasted, each mouthful packed a punch of rich, slightly salty flavour and the occasional burst of juniper berries were a delightful addition. My wife had the fillet braised in local wine, obviously this was not a fillet, more of cheaper cut suitable for braising, which was what we expected, again the flavour was so intense with a mixture of sweetness from the wine and saltyness possibly from some anchovies, all of which was washed down with a glass of Montefalco, which was the best wine we had tasted since our arrival in Italy one week ago. The only let down was dessert, a local Umbrian cake which was a bit too eggy in texture for me and could have done with some additional texture, but tasted good nonetheless. All in all highly recommended, if you are in the area, definitively worth a visit, the best meal we have had in Italy so far.
