Park
Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington is a historic zoo that has been around since 1891. Over the years, it has expanded and added new exhibits, making it more than double its original size. The zoo features indoor spaces like ZooLab, which houses exotic insects, meerkats, and parrots. Visitors can also explore the Katthoefer Animal Building to see snow leopards, tamarins, snakes, and Sumatran tigers.
It's a small zoo, so animals up close and personal. There isn't a really big habitat for any of the animals, so there isn't much for them to do except to pace. But kids and families really enjoyed their time there. It is small enough to manage for a field trip. Right next door, there is a splash pad and playground equipment that the kids enjoyed.

Made a spontaneous stop on our road trip to this sweet little zoo! The grounds were well kept and the staff was friendly. We saw lots of animals! The wallabies were my favorite part. It was cool to get up-close and personal with all the animals.
Domi P — Google review
Such a cute little zoo. They do have 3 interactive areas. One with goats, one with wallabys and wallaroos, and one birt sanctuary. They have a tiger, snow leopards, red panda, and many more animals. There is plenty of room for RV's to park. It is handicap accessible.
Nicole B — Google review
For being a smaller zoo we had a great time here. We went through the whole zoo twice in 2 hours but I think we saw every animal because they were all out and active. We loved the baby anyeater, it's the 1st time we've seen one of those.
Ashley R — Google review
Really fun splash pad and large playground outside of the zoo enterance. Zoo itself is very toddler friendly. The Amazon exhibit and tiger are our favorites.

My family and I loved this zoo. Love the different variety of animals. So much fun.

Miller Park

(1195)
Park
Miller Park is a beautiful and well-balanced environment for both adults and kids. The playground, water splash park, and walking path make it a great outing for families. The small zoo on the premises exceeded expectations with more animals than anticipated, making it just the right size for families with young children. However, some visitors expressed concerns about the lack of lighting in the playground area during darker hours, which could pose safety risks and potential vandalism.
Hmmm... reviews for the zoo seem to be commingled with reviews for the larger park. I wrote a separate review under "Miller Park Zoo". This review is for the broader park. Great place to walk or relax. Has a splash pool for kids, a pavilion for events, paddle boating on a lake, a stocked lake for fishing, trails to walk around, picnic areas, a gazebo, a baseball field, a monument to war veterans, a monument to firefighters, lots of open fields both in the sun, and shade, and easy access to downtown Bloomington. After the zoo, we spent 2 hours just exploring.

For a smaller zoo it was really great. We went through it a couple times in 2 hours but I think we saw every animal. My kids loved the baby anteater, it was our 1st time seeing one of those.
Ashley R — Google review
This is a good place to see a ballgame. There is plenty of parking although one downside is it takes a while to get out and on your actual way home. There are many good food options. The giveaways are quality. We enjoy going here several times a year
Ryan ( — Google review
The animals that were out were fun and active. Kids loved watching the otters play. A lot of the animals were not out because it's still chilly out. It was disappointing that indoor viewing was very very limited. This zoo takes about an hour to see everything. The volunteers were helpful and were happy to answer kids questions The highlight was the playground for my kids.... it was challenging and had a great slide. It kept my 5 children ages 2-13 very entertained.
Marcy K — Google review
Located at the entrance of the miller park, zoo, this municipal playground has some safe features, and is attached to a water splash pad. They also have a mini golf course and a picnic areas for family usage. For such a small city these people really have, i've done this up, right.
Snarffel M — Google review
A small group of OES members stopped for a photo opportunity with the Duck paddle boat. 2028 will be the year that the rubber duck is our symbol...but the paddleboat staff was fabulous and friendly...it's an affordable activity for 30minutes!! Miller Park is so much more than the Zoo!!

Wonderful Park mainly for children over 3 years old. Located next to a splash pad and very well maintained. Restrooms located nearby along with water fountains.

Nestled in the heart of Bloomington, Illinois, the Grossinger Motors Arena is a remarkable multi-use venue that has been captivating audiences since its grand opening in 2006. With a capacity to accommodate up to 8,000 concert-goers and 5,500 sports enthusiasts, this expansive arena has hosted over three million visitors across various events.
Enjoyed the entertainment from our local hockey team. It has been great to have a team back in town. The crowd was perfect harmony of encouragement and banter. Concessions staff were fantastic. The pausing people walking to their seats is kind of funny for the type of league it is, but I get it.

REO SPEEDWAGON and Loverboy put on a very good concert! Fairly quick in and out of building. Parking could be better as well as the floor seats, but overall, a good evening. We were on the floor, 2nd row center. The sound quality was decent. A pretty nice arena.
M. C — Google review
Went here for Disney on Ice and the whole experience was magical! Seats were comfortable and spacious. The bathrooms were clean and family bathroom was huge. The concessions weren’t badly priced either. We would come back again for another event.
Shan B — Google review
Went to see WWE SuperShow on June 22nd 2024. The Arena is lets just say unique for seating it's normal ballpark like seats. For handicap it didn't see accessable as I witnessed a woman on crutches be told to go up and down steeper steps with no regard of her safety downward. Staff didn't seem like they cared about the people outside of the guardrail by the main stage for the wrestling event. Good lighting, sound and usage of video boards. The event was 5/5 from the crowd and performers themselves. Staff wasn't very helpful for when they opened as well just opened and door and didn't say anything about if we could proceed further. Parking is really simple. Option one the parking garage or option two the lots they charged $10 for one and $20 for the other. Online it didn't mention this so to some I'm guessing this was a slap in the mouth.
Big_slim_2018 — Google review
I had a good time last night seeing Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Bayley, and Gunther. The Grossinger arena was a decent arena. My only complaint is that Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair were on the flyer for the show. However, they didn't wrestle last night.

Had a great time at the hockey game, even though our team lost by one point. But still had a really great time.

Avoid at all costs. Attended Megadeth show here Wednesday, September 27, 2023. The show must not have been well advertised, because the stage was in the middle of the main floor and there were a lot of available seats. With less than three songs left in the set, "security" got ahold of a fan, one guy. It must have been brutal, because of what happened next... The band's singer, Dave Mustaine STOPPED THE SONG to tell the FOUR "security" guards to stop hitting the guy. The scuffle (if you can call it that) moved to the aisle and from where I was, I could see two staff holding the guy up and two punching him in the face. In what world is this ok? Even if he was drunk, you gotta rough him up like that?? Mustaine continued on, he said the show was over unless those bully "security" were removed from the building. A few minutes (and more wasted time that could be spent playing music) later, it was reported the problematic people were gone from the building, along with Megadeth's time to perform. They played their final number and the show ended, but the atmosphere was definitely changed. If this is the way this place runs at a fraction of capacity, imagine how crazy it would be with MORE people in attendance? The arena has not issued any kind of public statement to explain, justify, apologize for, etc the actions of it's staff and the incredibly unprofessional and dangerous manner in which they conduct themselves, despite repeated requests to. Many others, as well as myself will issue our reply though, do not visit this venue. You are not safe here, you are not welcome here. Maybe it's just a heavy metal thing, maybe it's just we who aren't welcome or safe here. I'd love some clarity, but I doubt I'll ever receive any. So whatever, I'm gonna do what's best for me, and that's never return to this dangerous, unsafe space.
Shaun R — Google review
I have spent many hours in this arena, with my son's hockey practices and games, professional hockey and concerts and it is a great venue! Went to one of the 1st concerts since Covid. Plenty of free parking within walking distance. The security check, food sales seating all went smooth. Mask policy was being followed and everyone in our group had a great time! The sound was awesome and I would definitely go back for other events

Epiphany Farms Restaurant is a must-visit for those seeking high-quality, farm-to-table dining. This open, rustic-chic eatery offers seasonal farm-to-table cooking with international influences. Sourcing all its ingredients from local farms, the restaurant ensures the freshest food possible. The menu features a variety of fresh and unique dining options that are highly recommended by visitors.
Had a great dinner at Epiphany Farms for Mothers Day. The Lemon Drop martinis were so good. Ordered a salad that had what we thought was candied pecans, which the wife is allergic but ended up being candied pepitas. Salad was delicious. I had pork chop with candied potatoes and she ordered the NY strip with creamy potatoes. The steak was the best part of the meal. It was a little loud in the restaurant but still an enjoyable evening with super good food... all really farm to table!

I had a fine meal here. Often the vegan options at restaurants are sub-par or considered as discretionary additions to the menu. The effort put into your vegan dishes was pristine and delicious for people unfamiliar with vegan appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The zero-proof orange drink had changing, lasting notes and changed how I view zero-proof drinks. Great atmosphere and volume, both indoor and outdoor seating. Thank you for a great experience.

Food was amazing. Loved the cornflake chicken. Pleasantly surprised by the sashima, I ended up ordering seconds! The only down side was it took 35 minutes for the creme brulee to arrive. The server acknowledged the delay, which was appreciated.

Epiphany Farms in Bloomington, IL, is truly a gem. From the moment you walk in, the energy is warm, welcoming, and just plain fun. The service here is consistently excellent and the staff goes out of their way to make sure you’re having a great time, and it shows. The food? Outstanding. Every dish is beautifully presented and full of flavor. Whether you're coming in for a casual bite or a special evening out, the quality is always top-notch. The added bonus of being able to order food from Anju Above brings even more variety and creativity to the menu and it’s a treat every time. Cocktail lovers, take note: the drinks are just as thoughtfully crafted as the food. The cocktail menu is creative and balanced, and there’s also a great selection of bourbon for those who appreciate a good pour. Billy, the mixologist, is a standout and he's not only skilled behind the bar but also a fantastic and friendly presence whether he's bartending or serving tables. A special shoutout to Vince, the manager, who runs the restaurant with the perfect mix of professionalism, kindness, and fun. He and his team clearly care about the guest experience and it makes all the difference. And don’t skip their take-home market items, especially the drunken cherries and lavash crackers as they are absolutely worth grabbing on your way out. Just another example of how Epiphany Farms brings creativity and quality to every corner of what they do. Epiphany Farms offers more than just a meal - it’s a full experience. If you’re in Bloomington, don’t miss it.

Our 23rd Wedding Anniversary was yesterday,9/28/25! We were in Bloomington on a side mission and planned to have dinner afterwards. My husband suggested Epiphany or another restaurant. I wasn’t sure b/c I don’t like Sushi, but was intrigued by “farm to table” feature. Then, nice we were having trouble deciding my husband said let’s just go home and eat at another restaurant. I said no, we’re here let’s try Epiphany! What an AMAZING experience!!! The service, especially our server, was attentive, exuberant plus knew the menu well, so was an excellent foodie guide! The manager stopped by several times to check on us, and she was also extremely knowledgeable and excited to share details about the businesses and the farm! We were asked about dessert and was thinking of choosing the Choc-Blondie, so asked our server for direction, he said don’t order dessert “I have something special planned for you and their preparing it now!” OMG!!! He brought the Choc-Blondie out with a flourish!! EVEN ADDED A SPARKLER! This place, their care, attention to detail, FOOD, experience, atmosphere was second to none!! What a wonderful anniversary dinner!!! We will totally be back!!! To Epiphany and Staff: Game changer!! You are on a whole different level and I can’t wait to return!!😋

WOW! This has easily become our favorite restaurant on our very first visit here. The food was phenomenal! Very cute atmosphere and vibes are immaculate. The menu is huge as they have multiple kitchens, so there is something for everyone. Staff is so friendly and service is top notch. Your drinks will never run low and they are constantly pre-bussing the tables. Lucy was incredible and she had so many wonderful suggestions. Experience was fantastic, will definitely be making many trips back.

Asian fusion restaurant
Nestled in the heart of downtown Bloomington, Anju Above is a vibrant tapas restaurant that brings a unique twist to dining with its farm-to-table approach. Known primarily for its exquisite sushi, this Asian fusion eatery also offers an array of delectable dishes including pad Thai and Korean pork buns. Whether you're looking for a quick lunch or planning a romantic dinner, Anju Above caters to all occasions with its inviting atmosphere and diverse menu options.
Had a fantastic date night there with the wife, would love to go back at my next opportunity. Super cute and enjoyable atmosphere, the only negative is that the music was a tad too loud and made talking a little hard. Food was great. Mushroom pizza was easy to eat with a good crust. Korean crispy chicken was great texture (the sauce had a bit too much gochujang paste in it for my personal taste, but it was good). The cornbread was good enough to start flights over. Sushi was good, although I admit I'm not the best judge of sushi. Creme brulee was awesome.

Over all a great experience! Good food and service although I will say I was disappointed that our waiter didn't actually explain how the little prize drop worked until after we had paid our bill and couldn't get them. It's every 12 plates we did 16 and he was wanting to see it and thought it would be fun for our 5yr old 😅 but the staff was friendly and quick and the sushi was good!

We were a group of about a dozen and visited during a weekday evening for dinner. Food choices were vast with numerous veggie options, as well as plenty of options for pescatarians and non vegetarians. I ordered the pan seared salmon which was presented well and tasted very good. I also tried the Green Machine sushi roll which included about a dozen pieces. The Green Machine included avocado, Cucumber, rice, marinated tofu, etc. It was better than I thought it would be and I would order it again. The crab meat sushi was also very good but I liked the Green Machine sushi better. All of this was washed down with a Dog Days (Analytical Shandy) on draft. Overall, the experience dining in at Anju Above was very good. I like the restaurant concept of Farm to Table. I would definitely recommend.

I would like to make a special thank you to the server who helped us the manager who set up our anniversary dinner and the chef’s who made a very special dish for us. They didn’t JUST give us a private dinner, but they designed and set up a room for are Reservation and somehow still was able to make ours very personal and gave us our own private table. The experience was priceless. The accommodations were astounding. They went above and beyond anything I could ever asked for. I am very grateful for what they have done. It’s truly the classiest place with the best food

Had a lovely dining experience here, mainly thanks to our server, Maura! Got the pork buns to start and I tried the pickle lemonade which I highly recommend. The fish bowl was excellent portion and price wise, and the lamb shank my friend got was perfect as well!

My dining experience at Anju Above tonight was nothing short of delightful. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I was captivated by its elegance. Service was prompt; we were seated quickly, and our server was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. For starters, I indulged in the Fried Veggie Dumplings and a Yellowfin Tuna Hand Roll. The fried dumplings were a true delight, perfectly crispy on the outside and bursting with flavor. They paired wonderfully with the tangy pickled vegetables on top. As for the hand roll, it was a taste sensation. The yellowfin tuna practically melted in my mouth. Moving on to the main course, I was thoroughly impressed with the Pork Belly Ramen. The pork belly was exceptionally flavorful and tender, adding a richness to the dish. What truly elevated the ramen experience was the side of sweet and spicy sauce, which, when added to the broth, turned the dish into something extraordinary. The soft-boiled egg was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right, while the mushrooms added a depth of flavor that left me craving more. Overall, my dining experience at Anju Above exceeded my expectations. I'll definitely be returning to explore more of their enticing menu options.

Stopped at this restaurant on our trip. We were told everything they offer on the menu is freshly picked up and grown at a farm just 7 miles from there. And indeed everything was fresh and tasted amazing especially the crème burleè. We hit dinner rush so the restaurant was very loud with multiple large groups on a Friday night. But besides not having reservations, they found a nice table for us. Our server was not very knowledgeable of the menu and was working slow, she was also forgetful and her excuse for everything was that she was working there only since January. We were not able to enjoy our food because our service was slow and we didn't have everything to be able to start eating, but once it got to us it was good. They have a nice seating area outside but the day and time we went was way too hot to enjoy it. Nice parking lot on the side of it

Nestled in the heart of Bloomington, Rosie's Pub is a charming American taphouse that offers a delightful menu featuring flatbreads, burgers, pasta, and an impressive selection of beers. What makes this spot even more special is its historical significance; it occupies the former law office of President Abraham Lincoln. The ambiance exudes nostalgia as you dine in one of the city's oldest buildings.
We love Rosie's! Everything on the menu is great, especially the cheese balls. The monthly egg roll always is an interesting flavor - I was nervous about the "meatball sub" one this month but it was amazing!! The salad was light and fresh, and the truffle fries are a must.

Came with my sister for lunch it was so good. We started out with the bruschetta and when I say it was one of the best bruschettas I’ve ever had it was amazingly good. We both got the Rosie’s grilled chicken. It was so tasty. The fries were amazing so hot and crispy. I loved the blackened chicken breast on the sandwich it was so juicy and flavorful. Love the vibe , we sat outside && it was definitely a great experience. Will definitely be back

Amazing atmosphere and food! I tried a sunrise burger, one of their appetizers, and their Peach Thyme Prosecco Smash, and they were all delicious. I'm anxious to go back and try more on their menu. I've returned a few times since my initial review. Their cheese curds are delicious and the mozzarella tomato sandwich with chicken (pictured) is yummy, too.

Lovely place, i put in a order to go. A house salad and a black bean burger with fries. I was a bit dissapointed my fries were cold, the salad was very sparse. The only good thing was the burger itself. I dont think i will return.

I don’t go out to eat really at all, but driving here from Lincoln is worth it. It’s one of the few places im comfortable eating at since I have a shellfish allergy. It’s always the place my boyfriend and I go to if we’re celebrating something or it’s a rare night we eat out. Service is always great and food is incredible.

We stopped here after not getting into another place and wow that was a happy accident! The fries are really great and the Mac n cheese we got for our son was so delicious he ate almost all of it and it was a very generous portion. The atmosphere inside and outside is very relaxing. The flatbread is very flat and crispy. We would have loved to have drinks but we had a couple hours to drive. We would definitely stop here again

The Mystic Kitchen & Tasting Room is an extraordinary wine bar with a remarkable selection of wines and delectable dishes. The owners, who are not only exceptionally kind and warm individuals but also perfectionists, consistently deliver nothing less than excellence in their offerings. The MF filet stands out as a particularly outstanding dish, surpassing any steak found elsewhere in town. The seasonal menu changes and continuous experimentation keep the experience fresh and exciting.
Finally stopped in to give this place a try. We choose to eat outside since it was a nice day. The vibe is so chill and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I ordered the bourbon steak bites, they are very tender, the flavor was lacking but still good to try. The mystic salad was awesome, lots of flavor and very refreshing. My husband ordered the Texas sliders the brisket was tender and the slider had a lot of flavor. To end our visit we ordered the sticky toffee cake 🤤 - this was sooo good, the caramel was amazing I wanted to lick the plate. We will definitely be back.

When I looked at their menu online, I thought it might be a little too bougie for my girl group, but happily, I was wrong. We were greeted warmly by the owner and seated in the beautifully decorated dining room. They've restored many of the beautiful features of the old building they occupy. The menu offers a variety of things to choose from. My group of 3 ordered the large charcuterie tray and pretzel bites with spicy mustard and beer cheese. Both were fresh and delicious. The peach jam on the tray was a sweet bite after the tasty meats and cheeses. I also enjoyed the creamed asparagus soup, topped with a sour cream swirl. My taste buds were delighted! They have a large menu of cocktails, craft beers, and wines, but we didn't partake on this visit. The atmosphere is light and trendy with a casual feel. We came because we had won a gift certificate at an auction and thought we would try something new. I'm so glad we did. My friends and I enjoyed our visit there and are already talking about going back.

Nice, cozy little space with a good.vibe and romantic atmosphere. Perfect for taking a date for dinner and drinks. Service is absolutely wonderful and attentive. I had the Sassy Chicken Thighs which were really good. Their take.on the Old Fashioned is one of the best I have ever had.

My friend told me about this place and how good the cocktails were. Of course I’m nosey and had to try it for myself. I was in town for an event and took my family with me and we all loved it! They have outdoor seating, the service was really good (Parker was so funny!) and the cocktails were indeed amazing. I got the pistachio martini 🍸

Absolutely incredible restaurant. Amazing selection, delicious dishes, and the staff is fantastic. So kind and caring and they honestly care if you have a good time or not. They go above and beyond. Birthdays, anniversaries, all have been wonderful here. More than 5 stars!

The Mystic is located in the beautiful historic Illinois hotel building. The restaurant has some good options. I ordered the sassy chicken thighs (which was only one thigh) which was served in a delicious glaze on top of a bed of mashed potatoes, with broccoli florettes. With only one chicken thigh, and a very small bit of the broccoli florettes it wasn’t very filling, but the delicious mashed potatoes helped. Everything was exceptionally delicious. The smaller serving allowed room for dessert. Which for me was a shared sticky toffee cake, which was melt in your mouth delicious. Emily was our server and everyone was very attentive excellent service and equally good food. The atmosphere is outstanding in the architecturally beautiful Illinois house. My only suggestion would be to serve two chicken thighs with that entrée for a more filling meal. Other than that it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely come back.

Everything about our first time here was wonderful. From the friendly staff to the delicious food, it was a very enjoyable evening. Because my first choice for dinner was sold out, the owner was kind enough to give us a free dessert, delicious apple crisp. Best of all, she also gave me her recipe for her amazing carrot soup!

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with The Castle Theatre, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Quad. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Live music venue
The Castle Theatre, an ornate historic venue that opened its doors in 1916, has become a renowned destination for live music acts and performances. With a rich history of hosting diverse concerts and shows, it offers an intimate setting for couples seeking a memorable night out. The theater features three full bars serving an impressive selection of beverages, making it a popular choice for patrons looking to enjoy their favorite drinks while taking in the entertainment.
This is such a beautiful theater! The staff was so helpful and kind. It was very clean and smelled wonderful. The acoustics were also outstanding! So far the best small venue I've been in!

First time going to a show here and it was great! Perfect parking right across the street -which was free. Beautiful inside. You can see the stage from the very back, which was great. Smoking area was a plus as well.

Place was pretty sik, security were all chill dudes and kept it professional. Sound Quality was great and was a nice change of venues having have bar top at the front near the stage and an old man assist bar. Stay Stellar

Purchased a reserved seat for the Adelitas Way & New medicine show and they were taken. Have staff thats just standing around (most of them) police the seated area. Extra money was spent for something I wasn't able to use.

I used to work at the cast theater in Bloomington Illinois when it was a theater I was in charge of opening and closing the theater. I used to start up the projection and put the film in if it broke I’d have to go up there and slice the film in together it had a balcony, but usually we had the balcony closed cause there usually wasn’t enough people in the theater. I do remember watching the black hole was a film. I think I was an Usher, but I became a part-time manager. . I do remember watching the black hole was a film. I think I was a Usher, but I became a part-time manager, so it’s kind of interesting to see that that theater is still open. and it’s a four or five story building and up in the top floor. There was a model T up there. There was a lot of antiques cause the elevator broke a long time ago. Way before I became the manager

First, I’ve travelled extensively around multiple venues around the country big and small to see different rock concerts. Castle theater staff and bar access were great. However, everything else was subpar. Being a small venue, the acoustics were not good quality. The stage is low to the ground so viewing ability on the ground level is hindered if at a sold out show. The standing room layout is strange with random metal dividing bars everywhere. And the standing room isn’t tiered much so if you have tall people in front of you a few rows up you won’t get a clear view. All in all it’s an old venue. It’s more for nostalgia than quality music productions, especially for larger acts.

The McLean County Museum of History, situated in Bloomington, is a captivating destination that offers a deep dive into the rich heritage of the county. Housed in a stunning Victorian building with roots dating back to 1892, this museum boasts an impressive collection of over 30,000 objects and artifacts. With seven galleries featuring both permanent and rotating exhibits, visitors can explore diverse aspects of local history, from significant personalities during the Civil War era to Native American and immigrant experiences.
This is a history museum on par with counties that have 10x the population of McLean County, IL. There was an entry level slightly below ground with information and a few exhibits - and then 3 floors that had multiple rooms with different themes such as farming, Abraham Lincoln, jobs in Central Illinois, and even a little kids are to play as if they were on a farm. All told, I counted 11 different rooms - and we spent 3.5 hours there. Some of the exhibits can get a bit wordy; if you read it all - you'd be there all day - but that's great for a deep dive for stuff you're interested in.

Just wanted to add a photo of the nearby Miller Davis building, taken on a clear evening in February of 2025. Interesting fact -- Abraham Lincoln spent some time here in the 1840's when he was a young practicing attorney in his 30's, prior to his political life.

This place was awesome. We went on a free day and spent about 2 hours inside. There are many displays that show artifacts from a past time, all meticulously kept, with easy to read factoids by them. There are 4 floors of things to look at and do, including a miniature farm from ‘back in the day’ with activities for the kids. The library is packed full of books from modern day all way way back to the 1800s. If you are researching something and call ahead, they will pull any information they think could be relevant and have it on a table for you when you get there. All the staff was helpful and extremely polite.

The McLean County Museum of History is a well-curated museum that brings local history to life with engaging exhibits and interactive displays. The building itself is historic and adds to the experience. It’s an educational and enriching visit for all ages, especially for those interested in learning more about the region’s past and cultural development.

Review Date: April 18th, 2012 A pretty cool museum. I’m not sure what it is about this museum that I like but it’s a fun place to visit. It seems that every time I came here, there was always something new to discover. They had some fun and interactive exhibits that we played with and took a ton of goofy photos of us interacting with them. There were some cool exhibits on the history of certain things from the past. I’ve been here 3 times in total and each time was a blast. I have a bit of an interest in history, so it was fun to find out some local history of the area. I was surprised to see one of those single-engine planes on one of the lower levels. That was a fun discovery. Since I haven’t been there in awhile, I really don’t know what else to say about the museum. I’m sure the exhibits have changed since then so I don’t want to rattle on too much about stuff that might not be there anymore. It’s just one of those places that you need to see in person.

I was able to make it to the McLean Museum in time to see the exhibits they had it was a very nice and well kept the museum. Apparently this is actually a courthouse that Abraham Lincoln practiced law in, this time when I went in the exhibit was the pedal cars and stories about the early pioneers and early settlers of the nation. Definitely a nice time, you should try to go, if this is something that interests you.

This space is a staple in our community, and also a fabulous place for a wedding! The location is wonderful for checking out art and local businesses.

This is a very nice venue. The staff is always helpful and friendly. We have seen many shows at this facility. The venue is user friendly with clean restrooms and large foyer area. The acoustics are good and the seating is comfortable. There isn’t really a bad seat in the house. Good views from just about any seat you get. If I had to mention one drawback it might be the concessions area. It’s more like a snack area with candy bars, popcorn, and drinks. The selection is limited as far as that goes. We enjoy this venue over others we have been to because this one is more user friendly and classy. They continue to expand their variety of shows here from Comedy to Musicals, so there is something for all interests. We will continue to see shows at this venue. Keep up the good work.

My husband and I had our wedding here in March of 2022 and it was INCREDIBLE. Brian and the staff are amazing to work with and I would highly recommend this venue if you are wanting a beautiful blank slate wedding venue to work with that allows for you to pick and choose your own outside vendors! We used palace events for rentals to completely transform the space. Brian and the staff were extremely helpful with working out the logistics/ ins and outs of set up and take down with all the moving parts. Cannot recommend this venue enough!!! **photos taken by Carissa Mennen

Taqueria El Porton is a fast-food restaurant in Bloomington that offers traditional Mexican dishes and shrimp in a simple setting. Located close to the IWU campus, this family-owned eatery is known for its delicious Al Pastor tacos and excellent service. The restaurant also hosts the popular Fiesta Ranchera on Thursday nights at three locations in the area. Customers praise the flavorful and well-seasoned food, particularly recommending the juicy meat al Pastor burritos.
I can’t speak for authenticity but I can say that we had a very tasty and hot meal on our visit to Bloomington today. The salsa was very nicely flavored (my wife thought it was spicy but I loved it); the guacamole was more her taste. As soon as I saw that they offered cow tongue I knew I was going to get that. I had the cow tongue burrito and the meat was cooked PERFECTLY and was very flavorful. My wife had the fish tacos and she liked them a lot. Our toddler enjoyed picking apart the tacos, and I had the other one (beef) and it was very good. The service was great as well. Whenever we come back through town we will be 100% be back here!

I had an avocado tip in my salad that I actually bit down on. It was very hard and hurt my teeth for a few days. The male manager was super rude straight out the gate like I placed the thing in my food. The last picture is the plate he replaced my original plate with. I want be back and I will tell anyone going DON'T!!! The manager could have owned the mistake. It wasn't my fault.

My fiancé and I absolutely love El Porton. It’s our go-to spot every Monday and a great way to start the week. Authentic food, reasonably priced, very friendly staff. A hidden gem right outside of downtown Bloomington. Highly recommend.
Caitlyn G — Google review
I hate to leave this kind of review, because El Porton (in name only at this point) has a soft spot in my heart, having grown up eating here under the original owners. The new owners seem to have dropped some standards around consistent quality control, and almost worse than that is they allow their daughter to work the front while being incredibly insulting, condescending, and entitled - she often single handedly makes you not want to come back, just to not have to interact with her again. If the owners see this review, I get that you want to employ your daughter, makes total sense, but you need to understand that she’s losing you a lot of business and her work ethic is awful towards the community that makes your business possible in the first place. If I had acted like she does even for a single day at my family’s restaurant when I was growing up, they would have fired me and made me earn the right to work again at the business. All the best to you. I might try the place out in a few months to see if something has changed about this and the inconsistent food quality, but I’ve got one more visit in me and then I’m done with this place if nothing has changed, just being straight with you. And I’ll be telling everyone I know to get their food elsewhere too if that happens.

The quad is beautiful in every season! Year after year I'm blown away by how well kept the grounds are. The space is well-lit and has lots of space for students to hang out. I always really loved how close together everything is at ISU, making it easy to walk from place to place.

This is such a fun experience!! We have visited previously for "the experience," but this time, we ordered items off the menu. (BLT, smashburger, roasted broccoli, brownie) Both times, we loved our dishes and would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes to try new foods. Fun for a date night, special occasion, or just because. I love the decoration from the Edison bulbs to the artwork to the speakeasy aesthetic. The bar is beautiful. The dishes are delicious. It's definitely worth checking out!!

Such a fun and unique experience I definitely recommend stopping in! Don’t forget the password when you make your reservation or the hostess will make you do a dance or tell a joke so be prepared! They had a future cocktail of the evening, but also an extensive full bar! The bar itself is beautiful and I would definitely come back just to sit there for cocktails in the future. The food was delicious even though it’s not a large menu there’s definitely something for everybody. The main highlight though was our server Kaitlin. She really made the experience exceptional - she was friendly, prompt with her service, offered great suggestions and ensured that we had a wonderful experience for our first time. The experience was very unique and I highly recommend stopping in - Just don’t forget the password!

Chinese restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Bloomington, Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant is a charming family-run establishment that has been delighting diners for over two decades. Known for its mouthwatering dishes like hot and sour soup, General Tso's chicken, and Hunan beef, this eatery prides itself on cooking meals to order. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for families looking to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine.
We came to Golden Dragon as we were in Bloomington for a festival and we wanted to get dinner afterwards. I called Golden Dragon to see if there was a wait but they told me it had been a bit slow that day so we’d be seated right away. When we got there we looked at the menu as you order at the front and ordered the Hunan Beef and General Tso’s Chicken. Both dishes came with rice and a fortune cookie and we paid about 3$ for each of us to get a drink. The owners seemed to be an older Asian couple and they were so kind and brought the food out promptly. Both of us enjoyed our dishes and if we’re ever back in the area we’ll make sure to support Golden Dragon. Thanks for serving us!

You have to call to place your order, and then you can pick it up inside or curbside or get delivery. Pick up was super fast over the lunch hour, right at 15 minutes (I can walk there from our downtown Bloomington office) So much food for the price, and the quality is top notch! The beef with broccoli was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly and the amount of sauce was just right. Comes with white rice, but you can sub for fried rice with a small fee. It came in the perfect sized container which is microwaveable so if you only want to eat half and save the other half for another lunch day, you're already good to go! The egg roll was the perfect complement and it came with all of the sauces: soy, sweet sour and spicy mustard. I understand now why everyone else in my office is obsessed and goes there regularly. Can't wait to try everything else on the menu!
Jessica S — Google review
Don't understand how this place has over 4 stars. The young man that took our order was friendly, but the food was mediocre at best. It's like pretty much any carry out Chinese food, except the meat tasted funny. We were not able to eat our meals, and will likely end up eating another meal somewhere else before the evening is over.

Lovely outdoor seating and delightful cocktails await you at Reality Bites. We enjoyed the Seared Tuna and Pork Potstickers appetizers. The Harvest Salad from the seasonal menu was also very tasty. The chicken on the El Bandido salad was tough- won’t order that again.

Wonderful place! This was my first time here, and the food was amazing. I had the Ex Boyfriend (the drink in the picture) it's a perfect light drink if you like drinks on the sweeter side. The party I was with shared many of the menu appetizers, and all were a HIT! Especially the spinach and artichoke dip, along with the bacon wrapped dates.

Been here several times. Always good! My salad had one sliver of avocado on it. Bummer! A little slow today, got a parking ticket for exceeding the 90min park time.

My boyfriend and I decided to try some place new for dinner and landed on Reality Bites. The owner greeted us right away. They were busy, so we sat at the bar while we waited for a table. It was worth the wait for sure! We ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp 🍤 and bacon wrapped dates for appetizers. I'm still thinking about how good both of those were. 🤤 My boyfriend ordered the New York Strip and I ordered "the Funks Grove Burger". I can't say enough good things about the food and environment there. We were raving to our family and friends about it!

The cocktail/mocktail menu is wonderful and well-stocked with seasonal offerings. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich on this visit (w/o bun) and it was OK - chicken was a bit overdone but the flavor was good. My conpanion had a burger and said it was very well seasoned and dressed. We enjoyed the seared tuna and goat cheese balls as appetizers - both were quite good! Service is always excellent and we will return

Came here tonight for dinner and inside was "full". They told me we could only sit outside which would have been fine but you don't get any service! But now we have been here for an hour and no food. Went inside and there are 8 tables and a few people at the bar. VERY SLOW SERVICE!!! Had high hopes for this place but we will NOT BE BACK for dinner for 4 to take over an hour!

Restaurant
Nestled in a nondescript building that might not catch your eye at first glance, Jim's Steak House is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Originating from Peoria, IL, and now with a branch in Bloomington, this old-school steakhouse specializes in dry-aged beef and seafood while offering live music to enhance the ambiance. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by an enchanting atmosphere reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs blended with Western charm.
Had an amazing anniversary with my girlfriend this evening at Jim's. It was a great meal with wonderful service. I have pictured my T-bone cooked medium rare. A little bit chilly inside and we sat near the fireplace, but thats just my opinion :) we will definitely be returning!!!!

My husband went with my son and a colleague tonight, and I asked my husband to bring me home a lobster tail. I have dined at the restaurant before and it was awesome, but the takeout was also incredible! The chef is consistent and great! FYI I’m new from Chicago Suburbs and I appreciate a good joint like this!

I would love to give 5 stars all around, but there is one serious problem with this establishment. There is an 'Exit' sign on the stairs pointing to double doors that look like the main entrance, but they're locked. Not only was this a pain for someone on crutches, it's a major hazard in case of fire! Fire exits cannot be locked and unusable! That aside, we absolutely loved this place! Our server, Brook, was phenomenal. The food was 5-star quality, and everything I've been raised to expect from a great steakhouse, and the desserts are incredible. We had the calamari, steak and lobster (The Boomer), the Sea Bass special, and the Chicken Italiano. Sides were New England clam chowder, side salad with bleu cheese, baked potato, and french fries. I can't recommend all of these enough! The steak is buttery soft, the lobster was perfectly cooked and fluffed, the chicken didn't require a knife to cut, the sea bass was actually crunchy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth juicy on the inside. My side salad came with real bleu cheese, and my only complaint is the excessive amount of peas (photo below). The baked potato was perfectly done, the chowder was fantastic, and the fries were crispy and delicious. As this was a birthday dinner, they brought a complimentary slice of New York style cheesecake, which was made to perfection. All of this was paired with their Moscato by the glass. Live entertainment was going from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. There was piano, percussion, trumpet, bass guitar, and vocals. They played a wide variety of jazz and classic hits, including Piano Man. This was a real treat!

Rule #1: Do NOT let the outside appearances fool you. Looks are deceptive. It’s a very nondescript building (we tried figuring out how to get in…lol…go into the door facing Washington Street). Mama found out about this place, so I took her here for her birthday. If you’re hungry, grab a cheeseburger. If you want a divine dining experience, come HERE. The inside kinda looks like a multi-level Frank Lloyd Wright-esque meets Western intersection of elegance, charm, and serenity. Jim’s was founded in 1960, and a wonderful level of excellence is shown in the service (our server Brooke and attendant Josh were fabulous); in the food presentation from the salad to the appetizers to the main course. The food blew my taste buds in all four compass directions. Mama gave this restaurant NINE stars. I’d give it ten. There’s a piano bar adjacent to the dining area. Wanna make a birthday, anniversary, or anything else more memorable? Come HERE. Wanna treat yourself like a king or queen? Come HERE.

We loved the ambiance!! This was our first visit to Jim's steakhouse and we were definitely not at all disappointed. From the multi level seating that seemed to be endless staircases leading to new areas to the sounds of the piano playing, fully stocked bar. Our waitress was top notch, she was amazing. The Food was perfection. My husband said his steak was one of the best he's ever tasted. I had the sage stuffed chicken breast with mashed potatoes and asparagus, it was phenomenal. The candle lit tables were so romantic. We loved everything about our experience, We ended the night with the most delicious cheesecake. If you haven't tried Jim's steakhouse I 10/10 recommend!!

The ambiance of this place is unique. Upon entrance with a piano being played by the nicely stocked bar,we were escorted towards the back where there was plenty seating for dining. Multiple levels and fireplaces provide a fantastic atmosphere. When receiving our food, we weren't disappointed! The smell was incredible with taste to match. Perfectly cooked steaks! It feels as if you're a part a private club.

Jim’s Steakhouse. The name alone whispers old-school charm—mahogany walls, dim lighting, the faint ghost of 1980s cocaine deals drifting through the air. We came for a birthday dinner with high hopes and $400 in our wallets. We left spiritually bankrupt and bonded by trauma. It started with the “salad,” which was just iceberg lettuce drowned in a mystery dressing that tasted like mayonnaise left in a hot car. The Caesar was even worse—off-putting enough that grown adults stared at their plates like they’d just found a crime scene. Then came the appetizers. Calamari that fought back. Like chewing rubber bands soaked in fryer grease. Spinach artichoke dip? Not bad. But when one mediocre thing is the highlight, you’re in trouble. And then, oh boy, the entrees. Ribeyes so dry they could have been jerky. Over-trimmed, lifeless, and sadder than your aunt’s third wedding. The sea bass? Straight-up tasted like ammonia. Not metaphorically. Like, actual Windex. Someone spit it into a napkin. Loudly. Baked potatoes were raw in the middle. The sour cream tasted like it was trying to ferment itself. The mashed potatoes could be used to grout tile. And the steak tidbits? Just salt with a meat texture. We spent over $400 on what felt like a prank. I don’t know what happened back in the day, but Jim’s is running on vibes, dust, and memories of better times. We laughed so hard at how bad it was.

The Children's Discovery Museum, located in uptown Normal, is a fantastic destination for families seeking an engaging and educational experience. Spanning three stories, this interactive museum features a variety of exhibits designed to spark curiosity and creativity in children. Young visitors can explore healthy eating at the market, take the wheel of a combine in the nation's largest children's agriculture exhibit, or unleash their artistic talents in the Art Studio.
Visited on Sunday 12/10/2023. This is an awesome museum. Three floors of learning and fun play for kids of all ages. I loved that there were so many play areas and activities for toddler aged children here. We brought two babies and they both enjoyed our visit. The time really flew by while we were here. Easy to spend hours. We will definitely be coming back Visited again on Sunday 2/18/2024. Both babies had a great time again. The staff were very helpful and gave us an ice pack when our oldest hit his head. Gift shop items are priced a little high but we did buy some paint markers and a coloring book.

3 floors of fun for kids of all ages! My two (4 & 5) had a ball running around and climbing on practically everything. There's plenty of learning materials, but the activity engagement is outstanding. They were constantly on the move, shifting from one "wow!" to the next. Expect to spend a minimum of an hour here, upwards of 3 - 4.

This place was amazing! We met up with family here so the 6 kids could all play together! They loved it! They never wanted us leave the current floor, but when they went to the next floor up, there was something even MORE exciting to do there! They also let you leave and come back all day, your receipt gets you in all day. You can also go get food (or bring in food) and eat at the tables on the 2nd floor. Super super helpful and awesome!!! We will be back!

The best children’s museum I’ve ever been to; definitely better than anything in Dallas, TX. We always make it a point to visit when we’re in town and my kids always want to go back. A fantastic place to play, explore, and learn, for the whole family.

Five stars because it's a great experience for my kids as they don't come here often (maybe once a year when we visit family). If we were local this would quickly lose its value. A lot of the exhibits haven't changed since I was a kid 20 years ago, when they probably should have.
Alexis J — Google review
For how big the place is you would think it would be better. Half the stuff for the stations were broken like the 2 way call booth, the stomp the bug floor projector or pieces missing like the build your own sock puppets was some nasty looking socks and there was 1 eyeball and a hat to decorate the socks with. We found ourselves struggling to do things so we could say we got our moneys worth. We traveled 1½ hrs each way for not a whole lot. It was okay for a one time visit but won't return.
Paige W — Google review
There are lots of things to do. They have three floors of activities. The open floor plan makes it hard to lose your children. Smiling and polite staff everywhere. My four children are between the ages of two and eleven. They all had a blast. The gifts in the gift shop are not too expensive. It was fun, and they were able to leave with souvenirs. We will definitely return.

My son had an absolute blast and barely even wanted to leave the first floor! I've never been in a place like this so it was really neat to experience for me as well! It was so interactive for both the parents and child! They also do an amazing job of consistently keeping it picked up!

The theater opened in 1937 and has a cool art deco flair from the era of great early theater buildings. It is owned by the city of Normal and operated by a non-profit. It was closed for a time in the 1990s, but reopened after being purchased and renovated by the city in 1993. This theater is a true treasure and worth a visit.

This theater is magnificent. Friendly staff. Anne was the manger on duty and along with Taylor provided excellent service! They even have a raffle for every showing where you can win a free ticket and popcorn. All you need is your ticket stub. Cheap seats, snacks and movies that you won’t see playing anywhere else. Love this place!

I photograph weddings throughout Illinois (Ernst Jacobsen Photography) and recently had the awesome opportunity to photograph a wedding at the Normal Theater. It has been gorgeously restored in a beautiful art deco vibe! The inside restoration includes plus, coral colored seating, blue, maroon and salmon colored walls, high-modern style aisle lights and an elegantly layered ceiling of neon lights. Aside from the unique visuals of the theater, it is conveniently located in the middle of Uptown Normal so we're just a few steps for ISU's Quad and possible reception venues whether Medici (for smaller weddings) or the Marriott. Highly recommend if you're looking for a unique venue to hold your wedding ceremony.

The Normal Theater is a great historical venue refurbished to look the way it did in the 1920s and is run by volunteers. We love the the variety of films available. Admission is reasonable, popcorn is only $1 and they even have a drawing or trivia before the show with prizes! Everyone is so friendly. It's like stepping back in time! Those ceiling lights in the photo are real neon lights. Just be sure to dress accordingly. In the winter, they turn up the heat quite high.

Keg Grove Brewing Company is a small craft brewery located in Bloomington, Illinois. The brewery features an on-site taproom where visitors can enjoy a wide variety of beers on tap and observe the brewing process. With 20 selections including stouts, ambers, IPAs, lagers, wheat beers, ciders, and seltzers available, there's something for every beer enthusiast to try.
Taylor at Keg Grove Brewery is such a sweetheart! Super helpful giving food recos nearby and all around great atmosphere! If we lived in the area, we'd definitely be making this place a regular. Very solid beers! Took some home from their canned selection.

Visited on a typical Thursday evening and enjoyed the crowd that was there. Must have been some event going on before I came by. I liked the indoor and outdoor seating areas including the small area on the 2nd floor. The selection of beers on tap was great. Only thing I didn't like was that KGBC was not doing flights that day. Overall, great brewery that I would definitely visit again if in the area.

Keg Grove Brewing Company: A Toast to History and Hops Nestled in Bloomington's historic Empire Street, Keg Grove Brewing Company pours equal parts craft beer and community spirit into every pint. Founded in 2018 by neighbors-turned-brewers Jeffrey Mroz, Mike Hoff, and Tyler Cox, this neighborhood hub occupies a converted cycle shop with industrial-charm—visible brewing tanks, a mezzanine overlook, and Constitution Trail proximity creating an inviting "beer version of a coffee house". The name itself is a homage to Bloomington's 19th-century moniker, "Keg Grove," inspired by local lore of settlers' abandoned whiskey kegs discovered by Kickapoo tribes—a story the brewery playfully reimagines with ale. Their "Beer First, Community First" ethos shines through family-friendly spaces and approachable brews. First Flight: Fruit-Forward Refreshment • Blueberry Wheat: A sunny patio sipper with jammy berry notes and crisp wheat backbone. • Strawberry Rhubarb Wheat: Tangy-sweet balance evoking summer pie, sans crust. • Cotton Dress Pants Peach Wheat: Juicy stone fruit meets subtle floral lift—effortlessly smooth. • La Cobra Grande Mexican Lager: Clean, crackery malt with a whisper of lime—crushable and bright. Second Flight: Patriotism and Playfulness • Cherry O's Sour Cherry Wheat: Puckering tartness mellowed by dark cherry richness. • Outdoor Veterans American Ale: Caramel malt salute with earthy hop resilience. • Cub Check Blonde Ale: Gentle honeyed malt—a crowd-pleasing umpire. • Grass Assassin American Light Ale: Lawnmower-friendly with grassy hops and breezy finish. Third Flight: Bold Experiments • Lighten Up Frances Kölsch: Delicate pear notes over biscuit malt—German precision. • Duck Knuckles Dry Hopped Sour: Funk-forward with citrus rind acidity. • 22 Hefeweizen: Classic banana-clove cloudiness, unfiltered and proud. • Devil's Lettuce West Coast IPA: Pine-resin terpenes punch through grapefruit zest—a dank delight. Molly Nord’s team curates these flights with infectious enthusiasm, ensuring each tasting tells a story. The brewery’s anniversary celebrations and weekly trivia nights cement its status as a community anchor. Pizza Payaa: The Friday Night Legend Every Friday, Pizza Payaa’s food truck transforms Keg Grove’s patio into Bloomington’s most coveted pizza destination. Voted "Best Pizza in Uptown" for their hand-mixed, cold-fermented dough and house-made vegan mozzarella, here’s what to expect: Menu Highlights The Big Slice • Artisan Pan Pizzas: Sicilian-style crusts—crisp caramelized base with cloud-light interior. • Four Cheese with Basil • Pepperoni • Honey Badger Voted the top ten best pizza in the world at the Los Vegas Pizza Expo Leslie and KayCee Heinz, the culinary duo behind Pizza Payaa food truck, craft a crust that patrons describe as "stealing the show"—crispy yet ethereal, supporting toppings like "flavorful architecture." Owner Adam’s NYC-trained craftsmanship shines in every airy cornicione, with diners noting it’s "the best pizza in Bloomington-Normal... worth stalking their pre-orders". Pair your slice with Keg Grove’s Duck Knuckles Sour for a tangy contrast, or the Cub Check Blonde to let the pizza shine. The Verdict Keg Grove masters community brewing with accessible, well-crafted beers in a space that feels like a neighborhood living room. Paired with Pizza Payaa’s Friday residency—a match of "ungodly good" pizza and vibrant brews—it’s a Bloomington essential where history, hops, and crust converge deliciously.

Loved this place! Last visited 4/20/24. We attended wearing "Big Lebowski" tshirts, not knowing they were holding a Big Lebowski festival in the city center! We had a photo taken with "The Dude". Great selection of beers, and the staff is quite knowledgeable about their products. Atmosphere is relatively spartan, but it IS a brewery, after all. I have been here a few times in the past, and I stop by whenever I am in town. A nice place to visit.

The Dude abides... Wrapping up a trip to Bloomington with Keg Grove was a great end point to a day trip. A coworker who used to live in Bloomington suggested this place and since they had fruity beer, it took no convincing Emily to swing by there with me. We walked in and it was packed. There was a retirement party going on that kept the single bartender busy with not just them but also slinging drinks behind the bar. We didn't have to wait too long to grab my beer and Emily's flight. We took a seat over by the sweet The Big Lebowski beer tanks. That's right, the beer tanks had Donny, Walter and The Dude from The Big Lebowski on it. I included a photo of the tanks below. I'm not a diehard fan of the movie but I can appreciate this homage for what it is. After being a bit let down at Lil Beaver Brewery, Keg Grove hit it home. The beers we ordered were exactly was we expected them to taste like based on their names. Mine was a Holey Jeans (blueberry wheat) and Emily's flight was Holey Jeans, Cotton Dress Pants (peach wheat), Keg Grove Cream Ale, and Cupcheck (pilsner). Emily and I really liked the Holey Jeans and she especially liked the Cotton Dress. Since I was driving, I stuck to just the one beer but Emily grabbed a coozie, a 16 oz. Cotton Dress, we both grabbed some stickers and a magnet and headed outside. While she was enjoying her last beer before we left, it started pouring down. Everyone booked it inside but we stood under the canopy to avoid the loud crowd inside. My only issue with Keg Grove was the single bartender. Not sure if it was busier than normal but for a Friday and a retirement party booking the upstairs area, I feel like they should've had two working. But I will say that the one working was very peppy and was slinging drinks without seemingly stressing out. Until next time Donny, Walter and The Dude.

Nice little Brewery. I didn't ask if they have white Russians but they do name their brewing system after Walter, Donny, and The Dude. They have 20 selections including stouts, ambers, IPA, lager, wheat, cider, seltzer, and more. They did not have any big beers while I was there but it looked like they had a few bourbon barrels in the wings. Service was busy but friendly. I tend to like breweries where you get to sit where the action is and they have that. They also have a large patio and garage doors that open in the summer to create a larger space. I am a fan of the atmosphere. It is fun stop.

Just opened but already I like this place. Nice space. Good beers. There's some space at the bar and a few tables downstairs with tables upstairs as well. I've had a few of their beers & they are pretty good. It's just the brewery so there's just their beers. They don't serve food but it's a nice place to have drinks. Great spot close to downtown especially if you don't want the college bar experience.

Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park is the perfect place to spend a few hours bouncing around. This indoor park offers a variety of trampolines, as well as exciting features like a Ninja Warrior course, Wipeout course, climbing walls, and a slam dunk zone. After working up an appetite, visitors can head over to El Ranchero for some delicious Mexican cuisine located nearby.
Urban Air in Normal, Illinois, was an absolute hit for our family! My girlfriend and I took our four kids (ages 4, 7, and two 8-year-olds), and we all had a blast from start to finish. The variety of activities kept everyone entertained—our little one loved the soft play area, while the older kids couldn’t get enough of the trampolines, climbing walls, and obstacle courses. It was great to see them all burning off energy and having so much fun together. As parents, we appreciated how clean and well-maintained the facility was, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. There were plenty of seating areas for us to relax and watch the kids, and the safety measures in place gave us peace of mind. Overall, Urban Air delivered an unforgettable experience for all of us. Whether you’re looking for family fun or a place for the kids to run wild, this is the perfect spot. We’ll definitely be back soon! Highly recommend!

My kids absolutely love this place and there are so many things to do here! There are giant trampoline areas, laser tag, some weird anti-gravity version of go-karts mixed with bumper cars, a fighting pit where you try to knock the other player into the foam pit from a beam, a zip line, a giant jungle gym, several rock climbing walls with harnesses, video game arcade area, food and refreshments, and so much more that I haven't even seen yet since I'm still here. Awesome experience and a great place to go on a rainy day or whenever.

A Fun Place with Potential I've posted photos of how awesome the place is inside and all the cool attractions it has. Urban Air is an exciting venue, but there are a couple of areas for improvement to reach a 5-star rating: Staffing Issues: During my visit on December 23, 2024, it was evident that there weren't enough staff to keep all attractions open simultaneously. Despite the holiday rush, staff had to rotate between attractions, leading to longer wait times. On busy days, especially during holidays, all attractions should be fully operational to manage the crowd better. Limited Admission Time: The $120 cost for my three kids only guaranteed a 2-hour time slot, which isn't sufficient considering the long lines. Although we managed to stay an extra 30 minutes past our time, the 2-hour limit seems unreasonable for the admission price. Similar attractions, like The Fun Station in the Quad Cities, offer all-day admission, which feels more justifiable for the cost. High Costs for Non-Members: While the monthly premium membership offers great value, a one-time visit is quite expensive. I was fortunate to use a $100 gift card purchased at a discount, but without that, the high admission cost combined with the time limit would have been disappointing.

Birthday Party Review🎉 I was hesitant to book a birthday party here. I wondered if my child would get to do much as it could be packed and then she would have all her friends with her. This was not the case at all. I was extremely pleased with this birthday party that I wanted to come review for anyone who may be wondering if you should do the same. Our family did purchase the Platinum Package. This package gets you a VIP room, the party room is decorated and ready when you walk in the door, pizzas, a host and party coordinator among many other details you may want to check out on their website and enjoying the whole park was apart of this particular package. Let me start by saying, Wanda, the party coordinator did a wonderful job with communicating with me all details, answering questions and going above and beyond to make sure the party was exactly how it was planned. Kristina, who was our host during the party, had the room set up when we walked in, made every single guest feel welcomed and special. She offered drinks to adults, made the check in process smooth, she answered all questions and if there was something that was needed she was right there to get what we needed. She decorated and took down everything-I literally just showed up and got to enjoy my daughter’s birthday party. I want to give her a huge thank you for her amazing customer service and help throughout the party! After the party was over they reserved a table for us outside the party room so the children could still play. The kids played for six hours😳 and had such a wonderful time. There was a large party that came in about an hour after we were there. They informed me of this about a week prior to the party and it made me nervous but it went so well. The kids had so much to do and the host even mentioned they could get us into something at a certain time so we wouldn’t haven’t to wait in line. We chose laser tag and it was such a blast to do it all together. Only one con: The ropes course was not open and that may be the only thing I wish I had known about as this was what my daughter was very excited about but we also understand things happen. Maybe just mention that when you book a party if there are any attractions not available at the time. It’s out of their hands though as this area needed maintenance and we understood. All in all, I recommend this place for anyone curious about coming for a birthday party. They have many package options and just make sure you do your research on height requirements before you purchase a package that your child may or may not be tall enough for. Thanks Urban Air for a great time!! Now we need to get a membership 😅🤘🏻

This place has so much to offer, and they let you jump for 2 hours, which, to me, is worth the price. We got the Platinum Pass, which came to $33.99 and included access to all the activities.

The facility is generally clean and well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and attentive. It’s a great place to burn energy and have a blast!!

Staff telling kids that entire areas are closed because they don't want to go over there to operate it. Kids asked a manager to call a staff member over and they sent the same person who just told them it was closed. Wipeout attraction is not operating....it's just a trampoline for 7 and under.
Jan K — Google review
Kid had a blast and played for 4 hours! Nice variety of activities and prices. Plenty of seating if you want to relax while the kids play, everything seemed clean and well maintained. Snack bar prices were a little high but no more so than any other activity venue. May be a bit much for kids with sensory issues when it comes to lights & sound - it's pretty loud and there are a good amount of colorful lights that flash. All in all a great experience!

Mediterranean restaurant
The Rock Restaurant is a contemporary eatery in Bloomington that offers a diverse menu featuring Mediterranean options and American cuisine. With its modern interior adorned with brick walls, the restaurant exudes a trendy atmosphere. Customers can choose from a variety of dishes, ranging from gyros to burgers. The establishment appears to be popular, as it was bustling during the visit. Securing a window table was hassle-free, allowing for an enjoyable dining experience with natural light pouring in.
I've been ordering the gyro salad for yearssss and while it's always good, I had the best one of my life tonight! Love that they are plating it on a real dish, for sustainability reasons. It was fresh, the gyro meat was PERFECT and I had the perfect amount of tzatziki. 10/10!

The Challenger and Gyros were very good. The fries are very delicious. Food was quick. Place is a bit pricey, but overall plenty of options for a quick lunch. The portions could have been bigger, so I recommend going for the deluxe size if you're extra hungry.

Nestled in the heart of Uptown Normal at 203 West North Street, The Rock Restaurant delivers a vibrant mix of Mediterranean flair and American comfort with a side of hometown charm. The exposed brick walls and bustling energy create a cozy, eclectic vibe perfect for casual dining, while brothers Said and Charbel Salida’s hands-on presence adds a warm, family-run touch to the experience. The Feast • Super Gyro with Jalapeño & Fries: A standout star, featuring tender lamb-beef blend shaved fresh from the rotisserie, wrapped in pillowy pita with crisp veggies and a kick of jalapeño. Paired with golden, perfectly salted fries, it’s a crave-worthy classic. • Buffalo Chicken Sandwich: A hearty crunch of breaded chicken drenched in tangy buffalo sauce, balanced by cool ranch and fresh lettuce. Messy in the best way. • Corn Nuggets & Mac and Cheese Bites: The corn nuggets-sweet, crispy, and addictive-contrast with the gooey, fried macaroni pockets. Ideal for sharing (or not). • Desserts: The tiramisu surprised with its bold coffee punch and creamy layers, while the baklava offered flaky, honey-drenched layers-though the portion felt modest for the price. • The Verdict The Rock masters comfort.   food with Mediterranean soul, though some dishes shine brighter than others. Service is speedy and friendly, and the Salida brothers’ pride in their craft is palpable. Don’t miss the gyro combo or the people-watching from their Uptown patio. A solid choice for a satisfying, no-fuss meal with just enough flair to keep you coming back.

I’m not normally a fan of gyros, but for some reason I was really craving one. Initially we walked into the online/call in pick up only, to learn the restaurant is on the other side. I ordered a gyro and the sweet corn bites - my gyro had peppers even though I didn’t order them, I don’t like them and learned I got charged extra for them 😕 The meat was very tender and the flavor was great with the gyro. The sweet corn bites were unique and hot. I ordered the lady fingers for dessert, they were so good I only wish they were bigger so they lasted longer 🤣

Extremely friendly service and delicious food! The line was long but the crew was hustling to get everyone taken care of. Even while in the kitchen they were staying attentive to customer needs, checking on customers and efficiently bringing food out to tables. Food was tasty, we had gyros with fries, which come packed with generous portions and great flavor. After we were finished the friendly staff was checking how everything was. Looking forward to returning!

Oh, the gyro meat!! I got the salad with gyro meat. There was so much flavor, that I didn't want to put my fork down! Definitely worth the stop while in the area. Also noting that the staff were very friendly and took the time to care for their customers.

Brewpub
Nestled in the heart of Normal, Illinois, DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works is a modern brewpub that perfectly marries gourmet American cuisine with an impressive selection of craft beers. Since its inception in 2007, this vibrant spot has gained recognition for its innovative brews, including the unique WiLD Sour Series and the musically-inspired Deadhead IPA Series.
The beer battered asparagus was AMAZING ❤️ The Dijon chicken was good but a little much on the seasoning. It just had too much going on. My husband & son loved their food. The chocolate mint martini was strong & yummy. Banana Fosters pie was good. Staff very friendly and did great job.

The staff was friendly and super attentive! The stroganoff was a perfect choice, the flavors were rich without being overbearing. The meat was tender. The Thai chicken had a nice kick of spice. The banana cream pie is delicious and I order it every time I come..

I will have to get the name of our server - she is one of the best servers I've ever had! She knew the specials by heart and talked about them with so many details. She didn't write down our order - she knew it all in her head. That is always so impressive to me! She mentioned the upcoming father's day events and described those specials. They box up your food for you. I follow them on facebook and have missed some tasty looking specials - never again! We have skipped going to the gym next door for our workout once or twice to go for dinner instead lol. Their house salad is even impressive; we were pleasantly surprised how good it was for a side salad. This is one of my top 5 restaurants in town, and if you know this town, you know that there is so much to choose from!

This is the third time I've eaten at DeStihl since moving my son into college at ISU last year. I can honestly say I have never had a meal here I didn't think was excellent. Great portion size, well-plated, and most importantly delicious. I highly recommend the pot roast, but my son's girlfriend had the chicken biscuit pictured and it looked amazing! Definitely stop by and grab some good food!

DESTIHL has been on my son’s list since moving to the area in May. We came here for dinner on Sunday night. The atmosphere inside and out is warm and inviting. It was great weather so opted for outside. Our server Monica N. was absolutely fantastic. So friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Great cocktail, beer and wine options. For starters we had the Bavarian pretzel and the Crab Rangoon dip. Both were delicious. Our entree’s were the salmon burger and the Vegetable banana curry. My salmon burger was very tasty. My son’s curry dish was lackluster… the curry and vegetables were very bland, but the rice was flavorful. Overall we enjoyed our evening and will be back to sample more of the menu.

I needed beer flights. So we chose Destihl for dinner. For a Saturday in Bloomington/Normal we got in pretty quick after calling ahead. Truly enjoyed my beer selection from Ann our server. Only 1 I didn't enjoy and that was the Redbird. I had the Thai fried chicken which is a shift for many of my orders. It was good. The wife had a bacon cheeseburger and our other diner had the chicken stuffed pasta. Burgers are burgers but I tried the Pasta and it was a good choice. We also had the pretzel and the snack tray. Both good choices. Now for the bad news. They offer huge cake slices. We chose to try the chocolate cake. Best part of the cake was the cream on the side. Cake was dry and still over dense due to being cold.

Road trip, Chicago to St. Louis. This spot felt about halfwayish. Got lucky and hit a real German-themed brewery during Oktoberfest season. So that means marzens and festbiers! Their marzen is excellent. On their 'features' menu, that Leberkase (German meatloaf) sandwich was superb! Having just come from one of Chicago's Oktoberfest street festivals, this one sandwich at Destihl beats absolutely everything there. Skip big town Oktoberfest nonsense and go to Destihl instead!

American restaurant
Medici in Normal is a delightful bi-level restaurant and bar that offers a fresh take on American cuisine, featuring seasonal dishes and an impressive selection of over 30 draft beers. This modern eatery is perfect for brunch enthusiasts, serving creative options like Brisket Eggs Benedict and breakfast pizza alongside beloved classics such as omelets and French toast.
Excellent service, excellent food, we’ll be back! Pictured here is brisket jalapeño popper appetizer, beef brisket entree with mashed potatoes and green beans, and the great salmon and risotto entree. All was absolutely delicious! Great service as well!

Food was incredible but alittle expensive for the area . Not trying to be mean but the lady manager was pretty dismissive when I was trying to collect my order at the bar. Pizza wasn’t with my food and had to drive back to get it. They blamed me and said it was next to my stuff. It was not. All that being said I still recommend this place just maybe the management tries a little harder to be nice to new patrons.
Robert S — Google review
My steak was disgusting. Ordered medium rare and it came out cold and blue. I would have sent it back but we didn’t see our server until 30 min later. They did take it off the bill but it was just gross.
Matthew F — Google review
I visited Medici for the first time after it came highly recommended by several people. Overall, the experience was good, but there were a couple of things that stood out. I ordered the ribeye, which had great flavor, but the cut left something to be desired. It was only about half an inch thick, more like a thin slice than a proper steak. Because of how thin it was, it ended up being overcooked and quite chewy. I could have easily eaten three of them. Had it been at least an inch thick, I think it would have been an excellent steak, but at that thickness, it’s incredibly hard to cook it properly. Additionally, the bartender spent a good portion of the evening openly complaining about having to make certain drinks and other tasks. It was a bit off-putting, as it took away from the overall atmosphere. That said, the rest of the service and food were solid, and I’d be open to giving it another try.

Medici in Normal, IL is a fantastic early dinner spot! I hadn't visited in a few years, but the food and service were just as exceptional as I remembered. I ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos—a dark horse on the menu that has always impressed—and this visit was no exception. My wife tried the Salmon Brûlée, which was delightfully creamy and decadent, and the sweet potato tots we shared were an outstanding appetizer. Highly recommended!

For starters.... The history of the making of this restaurant is fascinating! Beautiful woodwork throughout the interior! I had Tammy as a server...Fantastic! She recommended the beef stroganoff, which did not disappoint me at all! It has a combination of rich buttermilk and smooth sour cream for the base, smothering tender cuts of beef and chunks of mushrooms on a bed of egg noodles to combine a delicious flavorful dish! Complimented by the garlic toast, of course! The espresso was rich and full flavor! 😋 This place is sure to meet your expectations!

What a cool restaurant! They have a tree, yes a real tree in the dining area. Great selection on the menu, not your typical restaurant menu. Service was great and food was very good. They were steady busy for a Thursday evening.
Mary I — Google review
The atmosphere was beautiful in this restaurant. The food was not as beautiful the pizza was something you would get at any regular pizza place. And my Seafood lasagna had a lot of water at the bottom, which made it very unpleasant. However, the service was great and the appetizers were absolutely delicious. This meal came out to $50 which isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t come here again.

Italian restaurant
The Lucca Grill is an Italian-American restaurant that has been serving delicious food and pizzas since 1936. It has a vintage atmosphere with an antique bar and tin ceiling. This hidden gem was discovered while passing through town, offering a delightful surprise. The menu includes mouthwatering dishes like Lemon Butter Garlic Shrimp Pasta and Pasta Primavera with Shrimp, as well as their famous Luca Supreme pizza. The attentive service staff provides excellent customer service, ensuring a satisfying dining experience.
Been going here for years and finally decided to leave a review. Today I got the grilled ham and cheese. It was very good. Service was attentive and helpful. Atmosphere is very cool with an ornate decorative ceiling and tons of interesting things on the walls to look at. Very cool and relaxing place to get a drink at the bar or a bite to eat.

Stumbled upon this place on our way home from Indy 500 to WI. Fell in love with everything! It’s now a yearly stop for us:) homemade comfort food, top notch!

I’ve lived in the area for 3 years and finally stopped here for dinner. We did not have a reservation, but we were able to quickly get a table. We ordered some cheese garlic bread and meat ravioli as appetizers - both were very good. The garlic bread had a crispy crust with a soft fluffy center with the perfect amount of flavor. The meat ravioli was well breaded with well seasoned meat inside. Both come with marinara dipping sauce. We built our own thin pizza with sausage and pepperoni - OH my GOSH! It was crispy and had a delicious combination of flavors. I will definitely be coming back. And to add the cherry on top the tiramisu was cold, creamy and rich. It was the perfect way to end such a great meal. Our waiter was phenomenal; very attentive and friendly. He took the time to have a conversation even being busy.

It was phenomenal! The pizza was perfectly cooked. Felt like it was melting in my mouth. And the teramisu was exploding with flavors. Service was exceptional for how busy it was.

Great atmosphere and feels like a small town place. The buttered garlic shrimp had the noddles overcooked and flavors were just on The chicken Parm was unique and good. Nothing crazy but good.

Walked in at 6pm without a reservation and met Theres at the bar who suggested we have a drink while waiting for 2 seats at the bar. Only waited about 20 minutes before being seated near the grill. I had reviewed the menu online and knew what I wanted, and my guest had been many times before and knew EXACTLY what he would have. My drink was a perfectly made Martini and it was fantastic. When I asked if the fried chicken livers were good, Theres said the best in the county and I agree. Ordered a Caesar salad with housemade dressing and housemade croutons which was spectacular. I prefer romaine lettuce but the spring mix was tossed in the dressing and piled on the plate with freshly ground parmesan. I ate it all. Tried the Fettuccine Alfredo because she said they make the Alfredo in house and it was beyond fresh, a beautiful half portion to finish the night. I lived in Bloomington for 5 years in the 80s, how did I miss this place. All this food for $25...amazing...not including my drinks wine tax and tip. I cannot wait to go back and will make a reservation for sure. Obviously a favorite for local families...felt like home. Bravo.
Food_Addict — Google review
Yeah this place is something interesting. It’s a local joint so you get good service and welcoming atmosphere. Food is another story. SMALL portion sizes for dinners that are almost $20 with tax. Get a pizza to be filled up. Should include bread for free or something on the side. Joke of an establishment with weird smell in the staircase too. Wouldn’t return.

There’s a reason this has lasted since 1936! The food was hot, flavorful and authentic. Our team thoroughly enjoyed the family atmosphere and highly suggest the chips and hot bread sticks for apps! Satisfied all around. Great spot with charm!
