Park
Clifty Falls State Park is a stunning destination with waterfalls, canyons, and a range of activities. Visitors can enjoy hiking, swimming, tennis, and camping while exploring the park's natural beauty. The lodging options include cozy log cabins in the woods, a State Park Inn overlooking the historic district, and camping facilities within the park. Despite being popular, the trails are well-maintained with maps available and recreational areas.
What a great place! We visited with the intention of stretching our legs for a moment on the drive home from vacation. That brief moment turned into over three hours of finding waterfalls, swimming in the creek, and exploring the trails. We did a loop and were able to see Clifty, Little Clifty, and Tunnel falls. Down in the bottom of the canyon we were able to wade in the creek to escape the 90+ temps. What a great experience plenty left for us to explore on our next visit! Also, great picnic area and clean restrooms!!

My daughter Gloria and I camped and hiked here in 2023 and Ellie and I did the same in 2025. Both times were great experiences. Trails were well kept. The campground (non-electric tent campsite) was nice as well. There is a pretty new bathroom we were by that was great. Very thankful for the family restroom. Makes it easy with young kids.

Super stunning park with rugged trails and plenty of elevation change. Not for the amateur hiker! Beautiful views of the waterfalls make this park one of a kind for sure. Been here many times, I'll never get bored of what this amazing Indiana State Park has to offer. Bonus Madison is a wonderful town to walk the river front!!
Kyle M — Google review
Lodge is great. It's a park so lots of bugs. Sliding doors open on river side to see clearly or with a screen to enjoy the air. Lots of trails. Tennis courts. Sky view day and night. Low lighting at night. Elevators. Dinning room is good, staff is hit and miss. Some very good, some never come to the table. GOOD FOOD. No complementary breakfast on Sunday when we stayed. Pool was decent. Outdoors is amazing and Madison is very cool. ♡♡♡

Excellent hiking trails, especially if you're looking for a challenge! We completed the Four Falls Challenge on the first day and as expected, encountered almost 1000 feet of elevation, rocky terrain, and a LOT of tree roots. Both of us are experienced hikers and fell in dry conditions. Saw a child wearing flip-flops fall down dangerously close to a cliff edge! Many of these trails require serious attention and in some areas, the trail is very narrow and close to a cliff, so know your limits and enjoy the falls from the many overlooks. We hiked Trail 2 (the creek bed) and Trail 8 the second day. Again, encountered challenging circumstances; so glad I had water shoes. This is a "hard rock scramble" for 3 miles. Trail 8 is designated as "challenging" or "very rugged" and did not fail to engage every muscle but what delightfully beautiful.
Emm D — Google review
We are seasoned hikers so this park is great for beginners, families qith kids or elderly. The falls were dried up (late August). We spent a couple of hours here only. They said they were at capacity for camping and we were turned away but the park seemed empty. We never saw the camp ground.
Phil S — Google review
Beautiful campground! Some real nice sites. I was shocked and disappointed though at a couple things that I'll share with you so your not caught off guard. I own a dog and I pick up the waste after my dog goes. There's signs posted to do so. I luckily had enough dog waste bags with me and old Walmart bags with me to get by for the week. Every camp ground we've stayed across many states this is the first campground that didn't offer dog waste bags, or garbage cans🤣. I couldn't believe it there's one can in a bathroom but other than that the dumpsters are all the way back at the main camp entrance. That was very disappointing. Bathhouse on non electric side was pretty new but locked almost every time we tried to use it while it bike riding( different times of day). The mens shower at the bathroom closer to sites like 98,99,100 was about disgusting. Mold, mildew all over the plastic shower curtain, no dry space to set down anything and one hook inside the shower stalls... There is 50amp electric on sites now though so that's a plus.
M R — Google review
Very nice park, but if you come to hike be prepared for a challenge. Most of the trails are moderately rugged or more. All the facilities are well maintained, as well as the roads, trails, and other areas. Plenty for young kids to do, and a nice campground area. It's a great deal, especially for IN residents.

Lumber Mill Antique Mall is a three-floor venue filled with a diverse array of old, unique, and vintage items alongside some new products like candles and kitchen textiles. Despite its old and sprawling building, the mall maintains a pleasant atmosphere without overpowering odors or dampness. Visitors enjoy the scenic drive to Madison from Louisville on the Indiana side of the river to explore this large antique mall that offers a huge variety of antiques where good deals can be found.
Love the history. It takes you back in history. Reminds us how hard things were. And how today advanced
Charles C — Google review
Let's start with the history and nostalgia of the building itself! It used to be a lumber mill in the mid 1800's. There are three levels of antiques and collectibles. Something for everyone! Very interesting and full of history. I loved our visit and will return for sure! Everyone working was very pleasant and helpful. I'm so happy we visited 😁
Monte R — Google review
Lumber Mill Antique Mall is a treasure trove for antique lovers and casual browsers alike. With its wide selection spread over several floors, there's something for everyone to discover. The range of items is impressive—from vintage furniture and decor to unique collectibles and rare finds. It's easy to spend hours exploring the well-organized displays, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Whether you're on the hunt for a specific piece or just enjoying the adventure of antiquing, this place is a place you should stop.
Lonnie P — Google review
Absolutely reccomend stopping in if you are in town. We were shocked at the variety of items and how huge this olace actually is! There is the main store, a whole upstairs area, and a MASSIVE downstairs. So many individual stalls each with an excellent variety of items so you don't just see the same stuff over and over. We found so many little treasures and we're able to cross quite a few items iff our wishlists. Prices were very reasonable.
Dominique N — Google review
3 stores of vintage and nostalgia. You never know what treasures you will find here.
Shawn D — Google review
This was our first visit and only had time to view a fraction of merchandise. Clean and well organized mall. Nice variety of merchandise and reasonable prices. There are three levels, so be prepared. We must make a trip back just to visit this store.
Herbert S — Google review
There’s plenty to see in this place. Beautiful town too.
Lyndon I — Google review
Was a little disappointed the best thing in the entire store wasn’t for sale. But they had other vintage soda advertising just not as great as the Pepsi yellow stripped lighted clock!

Nestled in the heart of Madison, Indiana, Lanthier Winery is a delightful destination that beautifully blends history and nature. Set within an enchanting 18th-century building, this charming winery features a picturesque courtyard garden where visitors can unwind amidst vibrant blooms. Guests are welcomed with complimentary wine tastings and have the option to savor their favorite selections in cozy seating areas either in the loft or outdoors among the flowers.
Exceptional sweet wines and customer service. The interior is very unique with an upper loft area that has several quaint and cozy spots to relax and enjoy your wine. The gardens outside are equally quaint with beautiful flowers and plants and small areas tucked here and there to sit, sip and enjoy the view.

Well this was truly interesting place. I loved how you walk past all the flowers and the path. Very creative and beautiful. Loves getting some free tasting. They tell you what is and not. Staff very friendly and helpful. I lobe getting a slushy and sitting in the area upstairs to cool off . Nine on what was a hot humid day. Their vodka top notch and smooth you definitely want to pay to try at least the chocolate one. Like chocolate chip cookies tasting. Their stack small bottles great way to get a variety especially not having to buy big bottle. I highly recommend.
Dan K — Google review
Highly recommend visiting this beautiful winery. The environment is very welcoming. You may hear “Hi! Watch your step please!” As you walk in because there is a step down as soon as you enter. You also might be greeted by a cat at the door. After doing some wine tastings you can get a glass or a bottle of wine or even a delicious slushie. You can enjoy your drink in the loft or walk around the garden. There is seating in the loft and the garden, so that’s nice to have both options. Absolutely love this winery!
Tampson B — Google review
We took an impromptu trip to Madison, IN and stayed at the Clifty Falls State Park. This winery isn’t far and is close to the Ohio River front. We stopped in and had a tasting with Dennis. We sampled sweets, drys and their WineShine! Dennis was friendly and offered up chilled pours like a boss! Didn’t care for the Jalapeño Wine Shine, but loved the dry Chambourcin. My wife enjoyed the sweet reds and we left with 2 bottles. My son enjoyed the lemon liqueur and bought a bottle. Honestly we would have bought more, but at more than $22/bottle of wine and slushie drinks at $15/cup when we can get comparable for $10 or under at home (St. Julian) we had a difficult time grabbing more. The atmosphere was nice and Dennis was friendly. The resident mouser cat let us have a pet. We would return for that alone! :-) It was an overall nice experience, although a bit expensive.

We love coming here every year, especially at Christmas time! Chris was very knowledgeable and welcoming to us. We love the cats and all the wine is incredible- particularly recommend Rudolph red and mill street red. Such sweet memories here!

Lanthier Winery & Distillery, a must stop in Madison, IN! The best winery in town! This place is MAGICAL! Not only is the win delicious, but then you get to enjoy and indulge in the beauty of their what seems like thousands of flowers blooming! This was a fun place to visit in Madison! Dennis let us taste some really delicious wine, a vodka, and then we walked around the garden with a wine slushy. Very welcome on this hot summer day. We will definitely go back!

The Broadway Fountain is a landmark fountain created by a renowned French sculptor, featuring four tritons with spouting horns. It is located on a small square just off of Main Street and has an interesting history that can be learned from the placard along with other local history. The area around the fountain offers free street parking and is a nice spot for a break and some pictures while strolling down Main Street.

Madison is a wonderful place in southeast Indiana situate on the Ohio River. Featuring manyfine and unique shops and restaurants. Also check out the beautiful riverfront park featuring river barge dining and Thunder on the River power boat excursions.

Beautifuly designed fountain. It was neat to learn that the fountain is a replica that was part of the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876, and other replicas can be seen in Poughkeepsie, NY; Cusco, Peru; and Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia. It was not flowing when we visited due to the time of year of our visit. Maybe the next time we are in the area.

Sandwich shop
Hinkle's Sandwich Shop is a historic brick-lined diner in downtown Madison, serving classic sandwiches and fries since 1933. It's a local favorite known for its out-of-this-world sliders, spectacular milkshakes, and friendly staff who treat everyone like regulars. Despite the small portion size of the burgers, this quaint burger joint offers an authentic feel and delicious sides like onion rings and shoestring fries at a reasonable price.
We always seek out the mom and pop restaurants and this one did not disappoint. I had the chilli and grilled cheese. My wife had the cheese burger and fries. The chilli was thick and hardy. Very good flavor too . My wife enjoyed the cheese burger and fries too . The lady who was our server was very friendly and professional.
Shawn D — Google review
This was our first time to Hinkle's as we live two hours from Madison, but it was a great experience. We had cheeseburger sliders and onion rings. The sliders were twice the size of White Castle's and three times better. The onion rings were cooked perfectly and were crispy. The server was fast, and our server Shandi was incredible. We went to see a show at Ohio Theater and came back for a shake. Whenever we come back to Madison, we'll visit Hinkle's. We already miss the burgers.
Chris — Google review
We stopped by Hinkle’s Sandwich Shop in Madison and were seriously impressed! It’s one of those places that nails the basics — cheap, fast, and really good. I ordered the BLT with onion rings and both were perfect — crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of greasy comfort. My husband got a cheeseburger and absolutely devoured it before I could ask for a bite (which is probably the best review in itself!). It’s classic diner-style food done right, with no frills and no long wait. Definitely a spot we’ll keep coming back to whenever we’re in the area!
Heather F — Google review
It was very crowded on the day we went but the service was good and the food was very tasty
Derek P — Google review
Fries served 15 minutes before our burgers ? We didn’t touch the fries until our burgers came out by then they were cold. When we asked for hot fresh fries the waitress said she would if we pay for them also. So pay for the cold and fresh fries just so we could enjoy a complete hot meal. But the burgers are awful ours were burnt all around the edges and just very distasteful. The fries were recooked and they were hot but they cook them apparently in the same fryer as the powdered sugar fries or something because ours had that taste of powdered sugar like at a fair or circus. As far as clean it could use more attention then what we saw. Floors sticky and the men’s bathroom was so bad I just waited. We hadn’t been to Hinkles in years and use to be pretty good but not today it’s has completely gone downhill. It’s definitely not worth the wait or money to eat there.
Patrick J — Google review
This is our second time coming every time the food has been awesome and everybody works here is super friendly and great service

Have you ever just wanted something simple, good, and hits the spot just right? Well, if your answer is yes, then look no further. Go to Hinkle's Sandwich Shop. Don't sleep on this little sandwich joint serving up some great all-American, perfectly greasy, and simply delicious burgers (among other classics). We got three double cheese burgers, and it's been hours since we ate... I'm still thinking about them. Great service and laid back atmosphere. We really enjoyed this place.

Mad Love Eat & Drink is a popular local restaurant in Madison that offers a groovy and retro atmosphere. The staff promptly greeted the customers and took their orders, ensuring a quick and efficient service. The restaurant exudes a nostalgic vibe with its decor adorned with album covers and photographs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Customers can enjoy great music from those eras while indulging in delicious food options like chicken wraps with fries or the special pasta dish with shrimp.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Mad Love Eat & Drink! Our meal started off with the Giant Bravaria Pretzel, which was warm, soft, and perfectly paired with its dipping sauces. The Sweet Potato Fries with Marshmallow Dipping Sauce was the highlight of the meal for me—sweet, savory, and possibly addictive! Every restaurant serving sweet potato fries should also be required to serve this dipping sauce. My wife enjoyed the Mad Love Smash Burger, which was cooked exactly how she wanted. The atmosphere was inviting, and the staff made us feel welcome throughout our visit.

Steak with asparagus and twice baked potato casserole( wonderful) Bar seating Inside dining room seating Outside porch seating Lots of "rock art" Open 5 pm to around 10 pm I think Love this place.

It's a smaller restaurant but has a lot to offer. There is indoor and outdoor seating with a sizeable bar. The servers were all very friendly and attentive. My wife and I had dinner one night and lunch the next day. We didn't have a single thing we didn't like. I had the steak and fries one night and buffalo chicken wrap the next day. She had the mac and cheese and Ceasar salad. I'd recommend any of that. We also had some cocktails which were really good. It's a great spot for couples or friends for sure. We will go back next time we are in town.
Colt45 — Google review
This place is a real winner! I started with the Mac N Cheese, and let me tell you, it was super delicious. They use spiral macaroni, which holds the creamy sauce perfectly, and the shaved parmesan on top added a touch of elegance. Next up was the Madlove Salad. What I appreciated most was the variety of greens; it's definitely not just iceberg lettuce in there! Plenty of chunky, fresh veggies and a generous amount of cheese rounded it out nicely. For my main course, I went with the Mai Tuna, and I wasn't disappointed. The tuna was expertly prepared, and I particularly enjoyed the accompanying asparagus, which was tender and glazed with a subtle sweetness. The cole slaw was a refreshing surprise – more vinegar-based than mayonnaise, which suited my palate perfectly. And who can forget the parmesan fries? Finally, the Brussel sprouts were a standout. The addition of cashews was inspired, and the orangish sauce, reminiscent of what you'd find on orange chicken, was absolutely addictive. We loved their music playlist as well. We jammed while we ate
Valyna G — Google review
Everything about this place rocks! They have the BEST Bloody Mary in the city! Mandy, our server was attentive without being overbearing and made great suggestions. Be sure to sit on the back patio if weather permits.

Diego's Mexican Grill is a popular spot known for its friendly staff and delicious food. Customers rave about the tasty tacos and chicken quesadillas, which have become new favorites. Even those who only tried the chips and salsa to go were impressed with the quality and generous portions.
The food and service were fantastic! We were in the area on a camping trip and wanted a break from the heat. Such a great idea. Our server was so nice and took great care of us. It was nice to have the break in the a/c with amazing food. She even sent us on our way with plenty of ice water. Highly recommend!

My friend and I decided to stop in on our way home. We thought it would be a nice family friendly establishment, but we were so wrong. It took 10 minutes to get a drink order in. Finally got our drinks (a sweet tea && a lemonade) && ordered our food. My friend specifically asked for lime with her appetizer. I ended up having to get up and ask a different employee for a lime because our server was nowhere to be found. The lady I had asked for a lime ultimately told me she’d “bring it to the table, go sit down”, so I went and sat back down. That same lady, who had been previously sitting down EATING WITH HER FINGERS, brought my food out and set it on the table WITH NO LIME. So okay, I give them 5 more minutes. After no lime, all this time, I get up again to go ask for lime. This time the women audibly says “Oh my god, we will bring it to your table, go sit down.” I just stared at her in disbelief as she had her bare hands full of food again, begging as rude as can be. We then got a lime and got ignored by the entire staff for about 20 minutes, until a busser asked us if we needed anything. I asked for our checks, we went up to the counter && got ignored again. all around a bad experience. OH, AND MY FOOD WAS SOGGY. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thomas Family Winery has been a local favorite for over 25 years, offering a cozy and warm atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. The winery provides an array of dry wines and knowledgeable staff who are eager to guide guests through their selection. Visitors can indulge in charcuterie boards, rustic breads, and live music in the courtyard while savoring the delightful Seyval Blanc.
Wine is excellent. Steve and Elizabeth are great hosts. Wonderful Irish music provided by Clogin, amazing atmosphere! I will definitely be back! Thanks again for showing us a good this time! I definitely recommend Gales Cider and the Chambourcin. Steve really knows his wines.
Jose F — Google review
I’ve been a wine drinker for years, although I only became serious about it in 2011 when a friend let me in on the secret that quality wine doesn’t have to cost a small fortune (Thanks, Jim!). I try to keep my money local, but that has been difficult where wine is concerned. So many vintners in Indiana make sweet wines for which I lack the palate. Then enters Thomas Family Winery. I visited Madison, IN last week. While there, I wanted to sample local wine, beer, and/or spirits. There are three wineries and a ‘brewstillery’ in Madison, but only one was open during my Sunday night through Wednesday morning stay. Lucky for me, Steve Thomas had his doors open and graciously welcomed me. He offered Hoosier hospitality, fun discussion, and delightfully dry, wonderful Indiana wines (there are sweeter selections for those who prefer them). In fact, I brought home a case! If you’re ever in Madison, I strongly recommend a visit to Thomas Family Winery. I’ll certainly be back and plan to try their rustic bread while there. Thank you, Steve! I forgot to mention the fantastic Irish music that accompanied my time at this venue. It was a craic time!

We tried a couple glasses of wine and were very impressed! Both the sweet and dry wine we got were fantastic! The charcuterie board was very tasty and we loved the dragon cheese (I forget the full name of it lol). The atmosphere was super nice and tavern like, I know they have live music which is cool. There was even things to keep our toddler busy and I loved the section with the church pews that allowed us to keep him in a someone controlled area.
Tim J — Google review
We went there after the art show for our business BBK Leather Designs. We had a glass of wine and a charcuterie board. It was fantastic! Most of their wines are dry, but they gave very good recommendations, and if you go during the day, you can do tasting, but at night, you can't because they get very busy. We listened to a band play and had a wonderful evening. I would highly encourage you to go! All of the pictures on the wall are so cool and funky, and they have a lot of history from the area there in pictures and paintings and books. They even have games to play and cute little tables on nestled together inside and out very good atmosphere!
Brigit K — Google review
My husband and I absolutely loved the Seyval Blanc and enjoyed hanging out on the patio with our dogs. The charcuterie board and chatting with a local Madison resident was a great addition to our day as well.

McWhiggins Wonder Emporium is a unique and exciting store in Madison that offers a huge variety of one-of-a-kind gifts, toys, decor, and more. The presentation of the items creates a wonderful shopping experience, making it hard to resist buying everything. Visitors praise the exceptional customer service and the fun carnival atmosphere. While some find the prices higher than expected, many appreciate the opportunity to find special items not available at chain stores.
Excellent customer service from Tayler! When we received a damaged product in the mail, she was very apologetic, covered the return label, and refunded our purchase without any hassle. Aside from the damage, the toy itself was incredible; I wish more people carried high quality stuff like this!

I love this place! Great toys for kids, but I always find something for myself. Holiday decor for sale. Lots of stocking stuffers. Craft section very good. All ages well covered. There’s nothing like a good toy store and this one is my current favorite ❤️
Bowmanlaurapiper — Google review
Loved everything but I just wasn't expecting it to be so expensive. Not saying things are over priced, just more than I was expecting. I went there hoping to find a gift that looked like it didn't come from Madison (aka Walmart, DG, etc) and I found exactly that. They were definitely not chain box store type of gifts. There was such a huge variety of unique gifts. And the arrangement/presentation of everything was done so wonderfully that it really did make you want to buy everything. Here are a few photos I took of some of the things I was interested in getting my toddler. They kinda give you a little sense as to what the store is like.

My favorite toy store that I’ve ever visited! I love the selection of items and the customer service was amazing! Definitely above my budget, but it’s a fun store to walk around and enjoy! I did buy something within my budget that I hope to enjoy once I get home! Worth a visit!

Apparently they closed and are online only now? What’s the point? Everything on their website you can get on Amazon, the whole fun is going in person. Really sucks but they’re probably going to go out of business all together because of this poor business decision. I also don’t really see the point in driving two hours to Madison anymore so other businesses will probably suffer :(

Discovered this hidden treasure today. While I already have another preferred coffee spot in Madison, I hadn't noticed this one before. Upon entering, the ambiance of Analog Coffee & Records was exceptional. It has a very genuine and appealing atmosphere with ample tables for socializing or working. The large windows allow for an abundance of natural light to illuminate the space beautifully. The diverse assortment of plants for sale and Moleskin journal selection added to its charm.
Here's what you need to know: This is a such a great vibe! Baristas were friendly and made a couple of fantastic coffees for us. Great music in the background and plenty of books to read. Please visit if you're in Madison.

This place was a cute little themed coffee shop. The guy at the cash register was so good at his job; we love it. My honey bee latte was good overall, but the breakfast melt was the real star. It was a good little breakfast and space!

Stopped in for coffee and small snack. Kinda a funky place. Nice old structure which is nice to see them keeping it going. Had chairs and couches to sit on and big windows to you can enjoy the view while you eat or drink coffee. Worth a stop while in Madison.

I’ve lived in Madison for over five years and have seen plenty of coffee shops come and go , but Analog Coffee is hands down the best I’ve ever been to, both in Madison and beyond. The quality of the coffee is consistently top-notch, the food is excellent, and the service is truly exceptional. What sets Analog apart is the atmosphere—it’s cozy, welcoming, and comfortable. Whether I’m stopping in for a quick pick-me-up or staying a while to relax, I always leave feeling better than when I came in. I absolutely love coming here. This place is a gem.

Shoutout to Analog Coffee & Records for making me an off-special iced coffee on special request. ☕️ Their February special “Heartbreaker Cold Brew” made my list of “favorite things” lately in the iced coffee category. I’ve been craving it ever since February, and when I was in town last week I stopped in to get another one. Not only did they make me one without hesitation, they also gave me a medium for the price of a large! 🤑 It was so creamy and delicious— just like I remembered. Check out Analog Coffee & Records the next time you’re in Madison!

If you're on the hunt for a pizza experience that breaks away from the ordinary, look no further than Pizza Uncommon in Madison. This gem is celebrated for its inventive topping combinations that tantalize your taste buds with every bite. The crust strikes a perfect balance between chewy and crunchy, making it delightful even on its own. For those with dietary preferences, their gluten-free cauliflower crust is thin and crispy, while an array of vegan options ensures everyone can find something to enjoy.
New favorite pizza place!!! They have the most unique pizza topping combinations, and all are delicious. The gluten free crust is also amazing, and there’s a ton of great vegan options as well! Will be eating here every time I visit Madison.

An exceptional take on pizza, outstanding crust that is perfect for both bread sticks and the pizza. Great unique flavors that offer plenty of options to try on each visit. Very family friendly and fun to play the available games while your food is being made! A truly uncommon place, will continue to come here.
Winter T — Google review
Pizza was really good; a different (uncommon) flavor that deviates just a little from other really good pizzas. It's very tastey and there is a large assortment of options. Service was pretty good. Tables were clean, as was everything else. Lighting is pretty good. The historic building is well-renovated and nicely decorated. The only negative is the many obnoxious TVs playing non-stop sports. The TVs ruin an otherwise very nice environment.
Henry B — Google review
So good that we ate here twice! Many different unique options, all delicious. Most important to us was the gluten free cauliflower crust option, which was thin and crispy and very good. Options for beer and cider for the grownups, games available to entertain kids while you wait. Our favorite was the Mexican street corn pizza.
Maura H — Google review
I am not exaggerating when I say this is some of the best pizza I have ever eaten. The crust is the perfect blend of chewy and crunchy, and beautifully flavorful on its own. I would eat it by itself! And WITH the toppings, it is game OVER for me. I got the Sweet Grape Gorgonzola, fully intending to not be able to finish it, and quickly ate the whole thing in one sitting! The creamy, salty gorgonzola, with the peppery arugula, the sweet and juicy grapes, and the HONEY DRIZZLE!?? 😫🙈❤️✨ Pizza Uncommon…. Thank you. I will definitely be back!

Was in town for a quick mini vacation and stopped in here for a bite. We chose the chicken bacon ranch pizza and breadsticks. Food was delicious. Definitely homemade not boxed. People were friendly and prices decent. If I were feeling more adventurous,I would have tried one of the uncommon and unique offerings.

Fantastic Pizza and Stix. Friendly staff, great beer selection, and games for the kids! I highly recommend for locals and visitors alike. Pictured is the Crab Rangoon (DANGEROUSLY Good 🦀) and Classic Pepperoni. Check that stretch! The Sea Salt breadstick check every box for a great stick. Crispy and crunchy outside and fluffy and hot inside.

Ellis is my go to place for a good Stromboli. They don't skimp on ingredients and it is always soft, hot, and gooey! Just like I like them. My husband loves their house salad. So much ingredients that he cant eat it all. Need to mention he is a salad freak. Says it's the best salad he's gotten anywhere. 10stars!

A Delicious flavor you can only find at Bello's. I almost forgot how much I love breadstick until I had their jalapeños, bacon, and cheese breadsticks. There was Flavor, unlike many of the commercial style one. Alley seating funnels a nice breeze on these hot days. Great place for outdoor eating.

Pizza restaurant
The Red Pepperoni is a family-owned pizzeria in downtown Madison that offers a variety of delicious pies and classic pizza joint favorites. They take pride in their made-from-scratch dough, which they hand-toss to perfection. Whether you want to build your own pizza or try one of their specialty creations like the ultimate veggie, hardy meatball, or Hawaiian pie, there's something for everyone.
Looking to feed the seven of us dinner in Madison without breaking the bank, we turned to The Red Pepperoni for pizza & pasta. 🍕🍝 Part of the “Red” family of businesses in Madison, The Red Pepperoni is a laid back pizza parlor on the west end of Main Street. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and feature a menu of appetizers, salads, pasta, grinders, and specialty pizzas with names like “Spud McKenzie” and “Mac Daddy”. It wasn’t our first time there so we knew it would be a good time. We ordered: 🥖 Breadsticks x 2 🟫 Toasted Ravioli 🍝 Chicken Parmesan x 2 🍕 Spud McKenzie 🍕 Sicilian 🍕 BBQ Chicken The breadsticks were somewhat reminiscent of the old Noble Romans sticks. The Spud McKenzie was a crowd favorite with its french fry topping. The BBQ Chicken had a sweet bbq base and crunchy green peppers. I liked the layer of giardiniera on the Sicilian. Their Sunday special was $16 large specialty pizzas. Our total was $104 + tip and we took home three boxes of pizza. Comparing our fantastic dinner to our lunch at an overpriced restaurant nearby made me even more frustrated with that situation. 😣 Thank you, The Red Pepperoni, for serving great pizza in a fun atmosphere that is still affordable for large families. 👍🏻 Check them out the next time you’re hungry in Madison!

This was some of the best pizza I've had in a long long time. The spices and herbs were perfectly balanced, plenty of topping and just the right amount of cheese. My wife and I ordered the three-topping lunch special which came with a garden salad (or bread sticks) and a drink. Great deal. The food and service were so good, we were back for lunch the next day.

There are actually three different restaurants. There are actually three different restaurants, the deli and pizzeria across the street from each other. We went to the pizzeria. The weekday lunch special is only 10:25. It includes a personal Pizza with three toppings or a specialty one, three breadsticks or a salad, and a drink. I got the vegetarian pizza and salad. My son got the CBR and breadsticks.

The only good thing about our visit thankfully was the food. The cheesy bread and even the marinara were very good. The Hawaiian pizza was delicious as well, I would absolutely come back for a to go order. Now for the bad. Our waitress seemed like she could care less, never checked on us or asked if we needed refills. The Tennessee vs Alabama game was on and the TV went off and one of the patrons waiting for a to go order flagged down a waitress to let her know and we tell her what game it was. She comes out and turns on a totally different game and ignored us and walked back to the back leaving us staring at each other. Someone else brought our food and asked about us needing refills on completely empty cups. There were 3 total tables occupied so not sure why we were ignored other than our waitress again didn't care. She comes over and kind of throws our check on the table and says, "Yeah no rush on that" and just walks away. Needless to say we left her no tip and will think twice about dining in here again.

We have been to town many times to visit family. This time we finally decided to try it out. We are glad we did. The pizza was very cheesy and the sauce was really good. Rivercrest Lighthouse Marina Restaurant and Lounge offers a unique dining experience with its floating restaurant and full-service marina. Guests can enjoy food, drinks, live music, and stunning views of the Ohio River and the rolling hills of Kentucky. The open-air bar provides a great atmosphere right on the water, while the casual dining area offers enclosed yet scenic views of the river.
One of our favorite date night spots — peaceful, scenic, and worth every visit. My husband and I love coming to Rivercrest Lighthouse Marina for our date nights. We always grab a high-top by the windows so we can take in the beautiful view of the water — it’s such a peaceful atmosphere, no matter how busy it gets. Whether the place is packed or quiet, we always have a lovely time. The service can run a little slower during high-volume hours, but honestly? It’s worth the wait. The staff is friendly, and the overall vibe is relaxed and enjoyable. And considering how unique the setting is, the prices are actually very reasonable. It’s one of those places that feels like a hidden gem — scenic, welcoming, and perfect for reconnecting. Highly recommend!

We tried this place because it is on an actual boat on the river. And the view was tremendous. It was fun to sit and look out on the water flowing past only 6 feet away. We were immediately seated and our order taken soon after, but, unfortunately, we were never served our food. I could go into the many excuses given by our server but the short story is that after being there nearly an hour (52 minutes per Google Timeline), we had to leave to make a tour time.
Thomas M — Google review
The setting and concept are cool, but the food just isn’t worth it. The burger was frozen, the pork tenderloin sandwich was literally just a big slice of meat between two buns, and the fries were bland, the cheese curds were greasy and had that frozen taste. Definitely disappointing given the vibe.

This is a fun place to visit for the ascetic of being on the river and live music. I went with friends during dinner and really enjoyed the experience of it. I will say that my food never came yet they were good to cancel it from my card. My friends enjoyed the vegetarian burgers

We sat on the top deck, wait staff was pleasant and nice. I ordered the Fish Basket, my wife ordered the Steak Sandwich. Her Steak Sandwich mediocre at best, the fish was the blandest tasting fish known to man, I'd stay away from it. Had no flavor other than burnt grease. The fries had no flavor either. I had to question myself if I had Covid due to the bland tasting food. Great view of the water though. Definitely not worth the $60 I spent.

Terrible music.Horrible food from cold fries, mushy oysters, burnt fish and the nastiest Cole slaw you’ll ever taste. The roof leaks a lot so don’t go while it’s raining or after a storm. There’s smoking in there so if that offends you don’t go. The staff is friendly so that’s a plus. This was our first time attending this place it seemed like a lot of older people 45 and above of course more drunk than eating and it just didn’t give us any good reasons to return in the future.

Great open air bar right on the water, good appetizers too. Fried pickles, pretzel bites, southwest egg rolls. The casual dining area is on the other side and enclosed but with windows overlooking the river. We were there more for the vibe, the view and a beer or bloody Mary. Great service. P. S. Great old country music playing 🎵

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Heritage Trail. Not quite as popular as Clifty Falls State Park, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Historic Sites
The Lanier Mansion State Historic Site, located in Madison's Historic District, is a stunning 1844 Greek Revival mansion overlooking the Ohio River. The opulent interior and landscaped gardens make it a must-see attraction. Designated as a National Historic Landmark, this meticulously restored mansion offers guided tours showcasing its grandeur and rich history. Visitors can marvel at the architectural details, including 12-foot doors and symmetrical design elements.
Our guided tour of the mansion was with a knowledgeable docent and eight participants. A larger group would have been too much. The history of the house and family is intertwined with Indiana state history and provides an enjoyable time-travel experience. While the visit was very much worthwhile, like other similar visits I have made, the longing to see the house and grounds in peak condition leaves a slight residual disappointment. Nevertheless, the house, furnishings, and grounds are in good condition and story they tell is fascinating.

We were in the area and had time to visit the Lanier Mansion. I'm glad we did. Very knowledgeable staff we did the guided tour, well worth the money. Beautifully maintained Indiana property rich in Indiana history. Be sure to visit if you are in the area.

Excellent one hour tour of you're into history. Amazing restoration and the guide had in depth knowledge and answered every question we had. Highly recommended.
Tracy H — Google review
We took the tour Wednesday, October 8 at 10 am and had a wonderful experience. The gentleman who gave our tour was phenomenal. He was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Most notably, he did an exceptional job addressing topics that involved gender norms, sexual orientation, and race relations in a way that did not gloss over their significance, both historically and in the ways these topics are still causing division in our society today. Very very well done!
Haley S — Google review
This is a beautiful museum home built and owned by James Lanier and his family until the early 1900s. The tour we went on was fun and went around the entire home, nothing was roped off. Our tour guide was apparently more on the administration side of the historical society so it made the notes they gave, from my perspective, more interesting. They focused more on the history of the family and how they impacted the town of Madison, the state of Indiana, and different industries they were involved in; the history of Irish servants, and other historical topics and how they relate to the house. overall it was a nice tour and it was nice to support the preservation of a local landmark.
Robert C — Google review
Great tour! Our tour guide was awesome, he was knowledgeable and made the tour a lot of fun.

Took a 4pm tour on a Thursday. The home was interesting and we learned so much about Indiana history. Huge shout out to Jerrod, our tour guide, who was engaging and funny. He answered all our questions and then some!

I've explored the exterior of the property for decades, but this was my visit time touring the inside. It was a fun experience. Our guide, Derek, only enhanced our afternoon! Definitely worth checking out when visiting town (not a big time investment).

Nature & Parks
Parks
The Madison Riverfront Dog Park is a popular spot for families with two energetic boys. It offers a nice alternative to their limited yard space and proximity to the highway, allowing them to freely run around. The park serves as an excellent way to end the day, providing an opportunity for dogs of all kinds to interact and gain social experience. However, it's crucial for owners to be vigilant and mindful of their dog's behavior as each animal has unique interactions with others.
Very nice dog park next to the river. Fresh water spigot for the pups and toys, we had a good time.
Christopher L — Google review
Its a decent park but I wouldn't recommend going here. Its very very dirty with people never picking up after their dogs. The park is full of bugs, fleas and ticks and its always flooded with water casue people bring their dogs there to shower -_- Township itself is very nice and friendly but dog park could use some budget for improvement and cleanup.
Aakash P — Google review
My dog over the dog park and so did I. Lots of room for her to run and play safely. Fresh water was provided for the dogs. Good shaded seating for the humans.
Diana B — Google review
Always a great way to end the day! Just make sure you watch your dog and others. Everyone/every dog is different with how they interact. Some get along better than others.
Thomas C — Google review
I take both my boys here alot & they love it. Its nice having a park to take them to & just let em run!! We don't have much of a yard and live on the hwy so, being able to take them to the park is great!!
Molly H — Google review
Who ever heard of paying $20 to use a dog park? Was in Madison, Indiana yesterday and had an hour of sunlight left so I drove the like 4 miles to the only local dog park I saw in my quick Google search and you needed a code to get into the dog park. Sign said to go to some gym to pay and because Metzger isn't local the fee would be $20, in county pays $10. That has to be the dumbest thing I've seen in a while. You would think places would want to be welcoming to 'out of towner's' bringing business to their area. No way am I paying $20 to let Metzger run around for an hour. We did spend an hour walking around the riverfront and saw like 4 presumably local people with their dogs and not one of them went into the dog park either. Way to discourage tourism, I had planned on staying overnight and hoping for better weather to explore the area a little but after finding this I changed my plans and left town.
Mindi K — Google review
The park is small but well kept. The locked gate keeps out those who have not purchased an annual pass. There are two places to sit and avoid the sun/rain/snow, people leave random tennis balls to share with other pups, and the view of the river makes the location feel bigger than it is. It would be that much better if certain regulars would rein in their dogs, keep their dogs from antagonizing others, and generally show more respect toward other people and their dogs. Thankfully, there are fewer of those people than those who know how to behave.
Anya A — Google review
It is so beautiful by the river. It's great for walking and there are tons of beautiful flowers everywhere. Lots of benches to sit on and enjoy the view, watch barges go by, and relax. The river bank is all cleaned up and looks fantastic. A great place in Madison to visit.

Hiking Trails
The Heritage Trail in Madison is a popular paved pathway for various outdoor activities such as jogging, walking, biking, and hiking. It connects downtown Madison with the hilltop overlooking the Ohio River. The trail offers beautiful natural scenery with wildflowers and plants along the way. It provides a good workout uphill and takes about 20 minutes to reach the top where you can enjoy views of the woman's prison and state mental hospital.
This is a lovely, peaceful trail. At one end, it runs along the abandoned railroad tracks. In the middle, it splits with part going up to the hilltop and the old Madison State Hospital land. The other branch runs to Clifty State Park.
John K — Google review
Very nice walking trail with plenty of places to sit down along the river
Jeff R — Google review
This trail has plenty of parking and is free and has at least one portable bathroom. For me the central attraction besides the Ohio River is the incline railway. It is a sight to see. If you are like me, the first thing you'll want to do is to get on the railroad tracks and walk up the incline. But that is a verboten. But there are any number of scenic and historic walks to be taken in Madison.
Best B — Google review
The trail gives you a good workout up hill. Took 20 minutes to get to the top. It is mostly shaded and all paved. About halfway up you'll arrive at a clearing to take in the views. At the top you'll see the woman's prison and if you walk to the right, the state mental hospital. It is a peaceful trail and a great little hike for getting out of the house. Great for dogs and kids. Too steep for wheelchairs.
Kelly R — Google review
Heritage Trail of Madison offers a blend of history (old railroad grade), physical challenge (steep hill), and incredible river views — ideal for scenic hikes and historical exploration. Short (about 2 miles one way), but packs a lot in — river views, history, and a steep climb on the old “incline” railroad grade.

I love this trail so much! Its our favorite out of everything to do here.. My son and I tried to go up last week, it was rock slide ally. Trees down, grown up vegetation. Which probably happened after all the rain and storms recently, so being natural reasons for us not being able to get much further then about the way up. We were disappointed, but it was still beautiful, quality time spent! The natural wildflowers and plants here are absolutely beautiful!

Cocoa Safari Chocolates

Chocolate shop
Candy store
Cocoa Safari Chocolates is a charming little store that offers a delectable selection of handcrafted chocolates. The store boasts an impressive variety of treats, including chocolate-covered espresso beans, malted milk balls, cinnamon honey spread, and an assortment of truffles and creams. Visitors can also enjoy cold drinks from the cooler on warm days. The in-house made marshmallow is particularly noteworthy for its exceptional taste.
This was our first time visiting Madison, and we came upon this chocolate shop where we got a couple of truffles. The wife and I continued to shop and explore. She said it was the best chocolate turtle she ever had. So we went back and got some more and got the hot chocolate. We've been in the lodges of Colorado, Oregon, and on top of the Swiss Alps, where we he hot chocolate. This was by far the best. Even though it's almost two hours from home, we will definitely be back.
Chris — Google review
While in Madison, IN last week, I visited a locally owned chocolatier, Cocoa Safari Chocolates. Their chocolates are every bit as good – or better – than my beloved Ghirardelli. Their dark chocolate is rich and smooth. I bought a bar of it infused with chipotle peppers and it is delicious! It even has a little heat to it, which so often pepper-infused chocolate lacks. The bourbon balls had some heat too, though of a different origin. Wonderful! I gifted my daughter and her hubby dark chocolate covered espresso beans. The grandson had white chocolate with his favorite…baby sharks! Thanks to Barbara Bladen for her hospitality and recommendations! If you visit Madison, I strongly recommend a visit to Cocoa Safari. I’ll certainly be back!
Tammie M — Google review
I don't visit Madison as often as I would like, but when I do, this is the first stop. The service is second to none, and the taste and quality of the candy is out of this world. They have THE best truffles, hands down, and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. Best candy store ever.
Steve M — Google review
I've had fancy expensive chocolates at many places in NYC, but I this place is better. The dark chocolate truffle and the chai truffle are my favorites. However, the chai truffle should be called the cardamom truffle. Can only taste cardamom in it. It needs some black pepper and a lot of ginger added to it to be called chai. But I still love it. No matter what you choose, you won't be disappointed.
John — Google review
Close your eyes. The door opens on a smiling face as the chocolate bliss aroma envelopes you. Then your eyes wander over all the milk and dark chocolate choices and lands on this beautiful smore. Handmade marshmallow. Chefs kiss! Make this a stop.

I stopped by and was greeted by the owner who took the time to talk about all the chocolates and give recommendations. She was right that the pecan turtles were excellent as were the key lime bonbons. It’s a great shop!

Chocolate is amazing! They make their marshmellow inhouse and it is better than anything you will ever eat. From the heart of the jungle to my eagerly awaiting taste buds, each bite was like dancing with cocoa fairies under a moonlit rainforest.

I was disappointed to find out we'd have to watch a safety video and sign a Waiver in order to enter the park since there's unexploded bombs and uranium everywhere. I would have liked to go inside the refuge but we didn't know how. Everything was gated off and there was no way off entering. It is a ginormous piece of land I wish could be of use to the general public.

The Chinese eatery, Hong Kong Kitchen, holds a special place in the hearts of many. Sadly, their beloved favorite spot at home closed down a few years ago, leaving them longing for its flavors. Ever since then, they have been on a quest to find General Tso's tofu from another restaurant. Their search finally ended when they discovered it on the menu at Hong Kong Kitchen. The husband opted for pad thai while the kids always choose General Tso's chicken and sweet and sour chicken.
Staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. Our order was ready in just a few minutes. The Mongolian beef was amazing, perfectly cooked and exceptionally seasoned. The portions were very generous. We would happily eat here again on our next trip to Madison. Highly, highly recommended Hong Kong Kitchen to anyone that loves good Chinese food.
Jeff H — Google review
Not sure what has happened with Hong Kong Kitchen but the last two takeout orders we’ve had lately have been just awful. Pull it together, HKK. The orange chicken was literally like jerky, completely inedible. The Pad Thai was awful, too.

Our first time, we will be back. Order at the counter and food delivered to your table. It's a small place, but convenient location. We go to Madison a few times a year, so we try new spots when there. Service is friendly, and food is good .

Visiting Madison for the weekend and found this gem downtown. Owners were nice. Service was fast. I had the Singapore noodles, just the right amount of spice/heat, would definitely try again!
Tianyi L — Google review
My family loves this place! Our favorite place at home closed a couple years ago and we have missed it. I have been looking for general tso's tofu from a different restaurant since then. I was glad to see it on the menu! My husband ordered the pad thai, and my kiddos always get general tso's chicken and sweet and sour chicken. This visit I got the wonton soup when I saw it at another table. It was great! We come here every time we visit Madison now.
Devin B — Google review
One of the best kept secrets in Madison. If you like amazing Chinese food, you've got to stop in and grab a meal here. We always get the coconut shrimp, but we've tried some of the other dishes, and it's always fresh, hot, fast and delicious!
H W — Google review
Great food at great prices! *Update* Ownership has changed but the same great quality food is there. The only thing that I might suggest is the tea that was free refills is no longer there and I kind of miss the tea. Even without it though for $1.75 per soft drink bottled, compared to $4.50 on the average but you get free refills - Hong Kong Kitchen's deal is way better. I mean how many sodas do you drink with your meal? Lol

Restaurant
Located on West Main Street, River Oak Chophouse is an enchanting restaurant offering a generous selection of scrumptious steak and seafood meals. The menu features options like wood-fired filet, sugar-cured tenderloin, ribeye, garlic citrus salmon, and Italian bass. The classy yet cozy decor adds to the exceptional dining experience. The friendly staff goes above and beyond to accommodate guests' needs, including food allergies.
I had the pleasure of dining at River Oak Chophouse in Madison, Indiana, and it was an exceptional experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a rustic-chic decor that set the tone for a great meal. Our server, Cody, was outstanding - attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. He helped us navigate the menu and made excellent recommendations. The food was outstanding - I had the steak, which was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The sides were equally impressive. One thing to note is that they do charge an extra $5 for splitting a meal, which was a minor surprise. However, the generous portion size made it well worth the additional fee. What really stood out, however, was the service. Cody checked in on us frequently, refilling drinks and ensuring everything was to our liking. Overall, I would highly recommend River Oak Chophouse to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Madison. The combination of great food, excellent service, and cozy atmosphere makes it a must-visit. Pros: - Outstanding food quality - Attentive and knowledgeable service (shoutout to Cody!) - Cozy and inviting atmosphere - Great selection of bourbon and cocktails Cons: - $5 extra charge for splitting meals (but generous portion sizes make it worth it) Tips: - Make a reservation, as this place can get busy. - Don't skip the dessert - it's a game-changer! - Ask for Cody for exceptional service. - Be prepared for the extra $5 charge if splitting a meal.

I had an incredible dining experience at River Oak Chop House! From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The food was outstanding—perfectly prepared, flavorful, and beautifully presented. What truly set the evening apart, though, was the service. Our server, Tori, went above and beyond to make the night memorable. She was attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, and made great recommendations that we thoroughly enjoyed. Her warm personality and genuine care made us feel so welcome. Between the delicious food and the top-notch service, River Oak Chop House has easily become one of my favorite places to dine. A huge thank you to Tori for making the experience unforgettable!

They only get 2 stars because my wife said her Strip Loin was good. I ordered the Filet MW with carrots. We both had water to drink and my wife had one mixed drink. When the food arrived it came out on some pretty cool plates. The only down fall to these plates are they let the grease flow into your lap. Now it was time to enjoy my filet. Cutting into was a challenge as it was the worse filled I ever had. You could buy a better filet from dollar general. The steak was even under cooked so you think it would easier to cut. Each piece I put in my mouth was like chewing bubble gum due to amount of fat in it. I ended up bringing it home and feeding it to our dogs. Definitely will never eat there again, I personally think you can get a better filet from the Ohio River. The bill was $130
Mike B — Google review
As a foodie and former restaurant owner who has traveled the world, I found the menu very strange and overpriced. We had a steak with a grapefruit butter topping. Never in my life have I tasted anything so odd and tough. We also had the seafood pasta dish with a spicy vodka sauce and lemon. I have no idea what this dish was trying to be, but it just tasted like a peppery broth. The lemon was terrible in it! I feel like it was missing cream or something. I do hope they rework the menu with better food pairings that actually work together and higher food cost items to justify the high prices. I feel the service was a bit slow. Just getting a glass of water prior to anything seemed tough. I don't understand why restaurants have dropped their standards. Drinks need to be at the table in under 3 minutes.
