Farmers' market
Nestled in the heart of Ontario, St. Jacobs Farmers' Market is a vibrant year-round destination that captures the essence of country charm. This bustling marketplace has evolved since its humble beginnings in the 20th century, now sprawling over an impressive 3,200 square meters and welcoming nearly a million visitors annually. Here, you can find everything from fresh produce—like juicy peaches and pickling cucumbers—to unique crafts and antiques.
A vibrant and lively market worth visiting! This market offers a wonderful selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, alongside unique handmade and locally sourced products. You’ll also find a variety of food vendors representing different cuisines — a few stalls even cater to vegan and vegetarian diets. The food court area can get crowded, especially around lunch hours, so be prepared for lines at popular spots. There’s often live entertainment, which adds to the atmosphere and makes the visit even more enjoyable. It’s a busy place, especially on weekends and holidays, so I recommend planning your visit early in the day. Seating can be limited during peak times, but there are usually some shaded spots to relax. Most vendors accept card payments, but it’s always a good idea to carry some cash just in case. On-site parking is available, but it can be a bit of a wait to find a spot — think Costco-level patience. Street parking in nearby areas may also be an option depending on the time of day. Public restrooms are available, and the entire market is family-friendly. You can easily spend a couple of hours here browsing, eating, and soaking in the atmosphere. Overall, a great place to explore, eat, and support local businesses!

St. Jacob’s Farmers’ Market is by far one of the best markets in Ontario and a must-visit for anyone in the Waterloo region. The design of the market is clean, spacious, and very well organized, making it easy to walk through and explore. It’s a large market with an incredible variety of foods, drinks, handcrafted items, antiques, and specialty goods. There’s truly something for everyone here, and it’s the kind of place you can spend hours browsing. What really stands out is the atmosphere – it’s fun, lively, and family-friendly. Families with kids will find plenty of things to enjoy, from watching food being made fresh to sampling delicious treats along the way. The energy of the vendors and the friendliness of the staff make the experience even more enjoyable. Food lovers will not be disappointed. I highly recommend trying the pasta served in a parmesan cheese wheel – rich, creamy, and unforgettable. The fried apples are another must-try, perfectly crispy and sweet. Pair these with a cup of freshly brewed coffee from one of the many stands, and you’ll feel like you’re in food heaven. Beyond the prepared foods, you can also pick up fresh produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and unique handmade products to take home. Overall, St. Jacob’s Farmers’ Market is a wonderful blend of tradition, quality, and community. Highly recommended!

I’ve been to this farm market multiple times, and it’s easily one of my favorite spots. It’s a really nice and popular place where you can find tons of great organic and local products. Honestly, I’m even considering driving here once a month from Toronto just to stock up on veggies. Prices are pretty reasonable, but it’s worth shopping around a bit since some vendors have better deals than others. Most things are sold in larger quantities, which might be tricky if you don’t have much storage space, but the quality is excellent, everything’s super fresh, and it’s hard not to buy everything in sight! Parking can be a bit of a hassle, though. I recommend parking across the street in the antique store’s lot and walking over, it saves a lot of time and stress. Definitely try to avoid weekends and holidays if you can, because it gets very crowded. Here’s a tip: in the last hour or two before closing, many vendors start offering discounts, so you can snag some really good deals. The lineup for the famous apple pie shop is always crazy long, expect to wait 45 minutes to an hour. If you can, go on a weekday or send someone from your group to hold your spot. Food-wise, the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich from the Amish ladies’ stand is a must-try. The loaded fries are another favourite, not exactly healthy, but super tasty and big enough to share with 3–4 people. And if you’re driving from Toronto, it’s also worth checking out the antique store across the street. You’ll find lots of cool vintage and one-of-a-kind items there.

St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market is a must-visit destination in the Waterloo region. It is conveniently located and easy to reach by car, with direct access from major city roads. However, despite having a large parking area, finding a spot can still be challenging during peak hours—especially on weekends and market days—so plan to arrive early. The market has a lively, friendly, and authentic community atmosphere. One of the most unique aspects of St. Jacobs Market is the visible presence of the local Mennonite community. Many Mennonite farmers and artisans sell their products here, bringing a charming traditional touch to the market experience. You will often see horse-and-buggy transportation nearby, and many of the vendors offer high-quality, fresh, and handmade goods that reflect the Mennonite values of simplicity, authenticity, and craftsmanship. Product selection is excellent: farm-fresh produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, maple syrup, eggs, handmade crafts, preserves, flowers, clothing, and a variety of specialty foods. Many products are locally sourced, and the quality is consistently impressive. Prices range from reasonable to slightly premium depending on the vendor, but the freshness, artisanal value, and local support make it worthwhile. Overall, St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market delivers a memorable and culturally rich experience. The mix of vibrant crowds, local farmers, and Mennonite heritage creates a uniquely warm and authentic environment. Come early, enjoy the local flavors, and take time to appreciate the traditional community presence. Definitely worth the visit!

Allow yourself lots of time because there's a lot to see and a lot to eat! It was my first time there and it was quite busy, I'm not sure if it's like this all the time but the weather was great and it's a long weekend. Tons of vendors, indoors and outdoors. From fresh fruits, veggies, flowers, baked goods to artistic vendors and your typical trinkets. I wasn't able to try the famous fritters from the market due to waiting too long but we would definitely return. I imagine Fall is beautiful here!

St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market in Kitchener is one of those rare places that perfectly combines tradition, community, and great food. Every visit feels like a little adventure. The market is full of energy — from the friendly local vendors to the smell of fresh baked goods and grilled foods filling the air. It’s not just a shopping trip; it’s a full cultural experience that brings people together. What I love most about this market is the amazing variety. You can find everything from farm-fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats to local honey, handmade crafts, jewelry, and home décor. The baked goods are fantastic — especially the pies, pretzels, and pastries. There are also many international food stalls offering everything from Lebanese shawarma to German sausages. The outdoor area during summer is especially lively, with musicians and extra stands that make it even more enjoyable. The vendors are genuinely friendly and proud of what they sell, which makes the atmosphere warm and welcoming. Prices are fair considering the quality and freshness of the products. Parking is free and well-organized, although it can get busy on weekends, so going early is a good idea. Nearby, you can explore the charming St. Jacobs Village with its small shops and cafés, making the whole trip even better. Whether you go for groceries, breakfast, or just to enjoy a walk, St. Jacobs Market is absolutely worth visiting — a true highlight of the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

If you plan to visit, I’d recommend starting your trip by taking the Waterloo train ride and visiting the charming village of St. Jacobs first. On your way back, stop by the Farmers’ Market , the main red building has plenty of food stalls and local vendors. Many booths are new, so it’s not exactly the old-fashioned local vibe I expected, but still worth a visit. Inside, some Mennonite families run lovely stands , there’s even a big map at the entrance where tourists can pin their home countries, which I found adorable. Definitely try the locally made maple products , pure maple syrup, candies, or butter are great picks! Upstairs, there’s an antique shop that can easily make you lose track of time if you love vintage treasures. Outside, you’ll find more stalls selling produce ,not all of them are local, but if you go later in the day, many vendors offer discounts on fresh fruits and veggies. Don’t forget to grab some farm eggs before you leave! 🥚🍁

St. Jacobs Country Playhouse is a cozy and well-sized theatre located in the southwest of the province. The lobby features a bar and can accommodate most guests, while volunteers help you find your comfortable seats, which offer great sightlines and perfect sound. The parking lot is spacious, and the tickets are reasonably priced for the quality of performances offered.
I recently saw Misery at St. Jacob’s Playhouse and really enjoyed it! The acoustics were excellent, and the intimate size of the theatre means there isn’t a bad seat in the house. I was especially impressed by the clever set design. The way they created the different rooms of the house was so well done. It was also really crafty how they managed Paul’s movement around the stage in his wheelchair during the scenes. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more shows here. If you want to escape the chaos of heading into Toronto and avoid the overpriced tickets of most Mirvish shows, St. Jacob’s Playhouse is a fantastic alternative - great performances, reasonable prices, and a charming local atmosphere.

We had a great time watching liars at a funeral play!!! The building itself is so cute and clean on the outside and rustic and abin like on the inside. Theres a bar with snacks and beverages a bit pricey but expected. The theatre area was smaller than i expected very cozy and stage was probably easy to see everywhere. Will hopefully go back aomeday!!

Nice, cozy little theatre. We've seen several Drayton productions there and they're always amazingly well done. My only caveat is not to buy front row tickets unless you're really tall as the stage is quite high up.
Amy S — Google review
I’ve seen many, many performances here over the years and it is still my favourite venue to watch a show in. The theatre is the perfect size to feel like you’re a part of something really special and connected to the actors on stage. The stories chosen to be told are always something that gets conversations going and promotes sharing.

This is a very good theater. Well laid out, plenty of parking available. Drinks purchased on-site are allowed in the seating area. We normally select Loges seating. There are a variety of Drayton Entertainment productions. All are excellent. Looking forward to the 2026 Season.

Nestled just north of Kitchener, the Laurel Creek Conservation Area is a serene natural retreat spanning 300 hectares. It offers a peaceful escape into the beauty of the outdoors with its forested trails, river, and picnic areas. The area is known for its wildlife and birdwatching opportunities, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, kayaking, windsurfing, and swimming in the calm waters of the lake.
Nice place to take a walk in and relax. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city but not very far. Easy to reach. Has a beachside for people to enjoy the water, nice picnic tables. Perfect for families, couples, children, elderly.

This conservation area is located pretty much in the middle of the city. It provides a great location to be close to the reservoir and enjoy some nature. There are various shelters available for booking as well as picnic tables at the beach. We've not camped here, but camping is also available. The facilities for day use are great. The beach offers plenty of shade and grassy areas to enjoy and be close to the water.

Laurel Creek Conservation Area, the place is located very close to the town, it can be called a beginner friendly campground, places like tims, walmart, and many eatery are 10 mins drive. The washrooms are very neat and clean, they also have very clean showers. The are has a nice lake, various common grounds, benches everywhere. A must visit area for day use / camping there are various lots for RVs as well.
Karan S — Google review
The park is awesome, nicely tucked away and close to town if you need anything which is handy. We are staying in the 400's which is great, the only complaint I have is the site right across from us is sadly being used as a parking lot for the next site beside, which has welllll more then the 6 people the website states can be there. It was super busy sounding and very loud from that site. Well Rangers to the rescue! They took care/removed the noisy family and another group and the sounds of nature came back. The water area is great for picnicking and water floats. Lots of trails to walk through also. Turned into a great stay.

Laurel Creek is perfect for family gatherings, time with friends, or peaceful solitude. The area is impressively large, offering plenty of space for everyone. It's great for activities or just relaxing. Whether with loved ones or alone, you'll enjoy your time here. Highly recommended for its vast and versatile space.

We enjoyed our stay Victoria weekend. Beautiful clean campsites. There are seasonal lots as well. We had an RV and found the lots to be very sloped. Hydro & water plugs are on opposite side of lots in front, rather than the back. I think those bulky cords across lots was a trip hazard and not very appealing. The lots were good size, and firpits were even in odd areas of lot. Be careful...while trying to find even ground for your trailer you, you also have to keep trailer away from pits. Firewood sold at front gate 10.00 a bag. Trails, and camp ground not far from downtown Waterloo. Bring your bikes, furbabies and ball gloves, kayaks.
Sherry M — Google review
About $8 per adult. Went on Canada day (July 1) — around 5pm. Lots of empty parking spots. Not packed at all — except the beach. The beach was a little crowded. The trails were really nice. The park was well maintained and the signage was helpful. Make sure to use bug spray! Staff at the entrance was nice (and proactively offered a map). :) I recommend this park.
Nim J — Google review
It was nice and well kept. Wish the sites had more privacy but they are spaced nicely about in certain areas. We went on 1 hiking trail and it was nice, cleared away and clean and a lovely walk. The water was nice to look out onto, next time I'll check out the water more. November-Sadly the camping sites and certain areas aren't accessible but many of the trails are. Sites just opened and it looks amazing there right now. Bought a kayak so I'm excited to check out the waters.

When visiting the market, it is a must to make a stop at Vandijk's Fish and Chips for their exceptional fish on a bun. This establishment serves incredibly delicious seafood that never disappoints. The quality of the fish is outstanding, and their unique take on serving it in a bun adds an extra dimension of flavor. The restaurant has garnered a reputation for its delectable offerings, making it an absolute delight for seafood enthusiasts.
Really good fish and chips that I've had!

We got large kibbeling with chips. And 1 kibbeling. Took a long time even there was only 2 persons in front of us. We had to pay $29.89(30) .Fish was very chewy. We were shocked to find out that we got 5 pieces of fish each. Never will go there again. Didn't even taste well.

I dont know what happened but this place has gone down hill. Looks like they have new owners again. The last 2 times i've gone here, I asked for fish on a bun.. and I ended up getting fish and chips. The first time it happened, I had it to-go so I didn't find out until I got home. 2nd time, (today) it happened again but the worker wouldn't change it. The batter is also quite chewy now. Oh and they only take cash.. they used to take card if I remember correctly. Waste of money!

We have to stop here for fish on a bun everytime we go to the market amazing fish
Bruce W — Google review
Not a good experience. Fish was not fresh, meat was grey and had an unpleasant smell. Breading was soggy and oil was old. Fries were from frozen package and tasted like old fish oil. Ordered 1 Lekker Bekjie, 1 Kibbeling and Chips, 1 Fish on a Bun and a pop, the total comes to $32. On the picture menu, every item appears to come with a sauce but when I got mine, I only got one dipping sauce with the Kibbeling, so I asked for one more for the soggy, flavourless, old Lekker Bekjie, to my surprise, it was such a hassle; I learned that they changed me for the sauce that they gave me for the Kibbeling and also the sauce that they put on the fish on a bun. I myself also worked in the food industry for many years and this is something new to me. I used to love this place from the previous owner but after today experience, I will never go here again.

Nestled near the bustling St. Jacobs Market, Jack's Family Restaurant is a spacious and inviting eatery that specializes in homestyle dishes served in a modern setting. With an impressive menu boasting around 80 items, this family-friendly spot is perfect for breakfast lovers seeking generous portions and consistent quality. From trendy avocado toast paired with poached eggs to hearty classics like the Philly Cheesesteak skillet, there's something for everyone.
Great place to eat if you're staying at one of the hotels in the area or are visiting the St. Jacob's Market. We had dinner one day and enjoyed it so much that we went back for dinner the next day. We ordered two Combo Souvlaki Platters. It was really tasty. Huge portions. We took leftovers and had it for lunch the next day. The chicken was more moist than pork. We shared a yummy slice of coconut cream pie. For the second meal we had the Hot Turkey Sandwich. A great comfort meal. Lots of delicious turkey meat and the vegetables were cooked crisp tender. I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Also had the Steak Stir Fry. Generous amount of vegetables and meat and very flavourful sauce. We would happily order all the meals again. We were there around 6pm on a Friday and Saturday night and only waited 5 minutes for a table.

Jacks is a staple in Waterloo. Classic homestyle cooking with generous portions. We got; Steak sandwich, medium rare with fried onions; The steak was cooked to perfection, making the sandwich delicious. I got Ceasars salad as the side, fresh ingredients with a classic homemade Ceasar sauce. Chicken taco salad; this came with a generous portion of fresh ingredients. The chicken was served on the side and remained crispy and juicy. The fish; This was my least favourite. Unfortunately, it was mushy rather than crispy and flaky. Maybe just a bad night for the deep fryer! But their tarter sauce was good. Came with a side of home cut fries. All in all, I would definitely recommend Jacks for a dinner out. We were not only satisfied but had leftovers as well!

Food and services were excellent. The berry parfait was so delicious. Must try. The steak and eggs were ok. I like my steaks thicker but most restaurants tend to serve the thinner bigger pieces.

Jack’s Family Restaurant in Waterloo is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a satisfying meal with a wide variety of options. I was very impressed with the menu, there’s truly something for everyone, from hearty breakfasts and sandwiches to comforting mains and delicious desserts. The food quality is consistently high, portions are generous, and everything tastes fresh and well prepared. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual meal with friends or bringing the whole family, it delivers every time. The customer service also deserves a mention. Staff are welcoming, attentive, and quick to make sure you have what you need without being intrusive. It gives the restaurant a warm, friendly feel that makes the dining experience that much more enjoyable. The interior is clean, spacious, and nicely designed, providing a comfortable atmosphere that works well for families, couples, or larger groups. It’s not overly fancy but definitely well kept and inviting. Perhaps the biggest advantage of Jack’s is its location, it’s just steps away from the famous St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market. This makes it the perfect spot to enjoy a great breakfast or lunch before or after exploring the market. The convenience of having such a quality restaurant right next to the market really sets it apart. Overall, Jack’s Family Restaurant combines variety, quality, and excellent service in a convenient and welcoming environment. It’s a place I would happily return to and recommend to anyone visiting the Waterloo or St. Jacobs area.

It’s the perfect spot to go when you’re feeling ravenous. My Jacks Pancakes were crispy on the outside and fluffy all around, although I would’ve liked if it was more chippy . The skillet was really flavourful as well . it was a very delightful meal. Most impressive was Kelly. she provides top notch service , had a lot of personality and heart , and anticipated our needs on an extremely busy Sunday

We had a very lovely late lunch today! Greeted promptly and happily. Got seated and within 5 seconds we were acknowledged and within 30 seconds we were getting our drink orders taken. The server (I wanna say Lesly? Blonde and tattooed?) told us about specials, and about the menu (her faves) and asked us if we had any questions. We came all the way from Guelph for the Cobb salad but as soon as my Mom saw the Julienne salad - she changed her mind. I told her to choose between fish and chips, or chicken fingers and don’t tell me. The vibe was great! The food arrived fast and it was GREAT! Julienne salad with ranch, and chicken tenders and mashed. So much food we couldn’t eat it all. 2 meals + 2 pops was $58 and we found that to be reasonable and on par with everywhere else! The place was busy, and everyone looked happy. The washrooms and rest of the spaces were very clean as well! Overall a great experience and we certainly will be back!

Went here for lunch with my mom and son. There was no wait time to be seated. The waitress was great. We all enjoyed our food and it came out quickly. Portion sizes are big. I have been here about two times in the past year and a half. I find the quality of the food has gone down. Really great restaurant in a convient area!! Staff were friendly and efficient. The food was delicious my burger was a bit tough around the edges but the fried chicken burger was amazing!! Cozy and clean atmoaphere and decent prices!

The food is really good, the portions sizes are large, and the menu has a lot of options including some that are quite unique. Including the steak and mushroom eggs benedict - 8 oz steak eggs benny. Unique. Service is also very friendly and welcoming. Would be nice to have some bike racks at the place as we had to go chain our bikes at the nearby park, but that would just be a bonus. Lots of parking otherwise.

EcoCafe, located in St. Jacobs, is a charming local spot that exudes a strong sense of community and commitment to quality coffee and tea. The cafe prides itself on serving certified organic, fair trade coffee while also offering an array of other beverages and treats. The ambiance is cozy with thoughtful decorations creating a welcoming environment for patrons to enjoy their drinks and snacks. This place is a littel hidden gem - was a bit hard to find honestly! But I am also a bit directionally challenged and always feel like i am tresspassing... My issue not yours reader so ignore me. I had a flat white, a original breakfast sandwich and a mixed bery scone. All three were fantastic, particularly the breakfast sandwich. Upon first look, I was sceptical but the ingredients seemed fresh and delicious - i would imagine locally sourced to some degree given the area. The coffee was also fantastic - I do indeed recommend the flat white, though I cannot speak to their drip coffee. Pets (dogs) are allowed, and every single customer but me seemed to have a dog, so keep that in mind.. popular spot for doggos. I will undoubtably be coming back to this place as I continue to explore local little spots in this area.

Gorgeous cafe located at end of the st.jacobs downtown street along with the Conestoga river. We had mochaccino which was arguably the best I ever had, American was nice too and the server suggested us their breakfast sandwich with peameal and their in house garlic sauce which hit the right spot. The food and drinks were above par but the patio along side the river was cherry on top! It made our day as it was calming and serene to have a coffee along water side.

Such a charming cafe! The pretzel BLT was SO good, the bun was so soft and the bacon was thick and savoury. Also had a lavender white chocolate scone that was fluffy, soft and delicious. The staff were polite, personable and amiable. Highly recommend! :)

I've walked by the EcoCafe a few times, and each time I've hesitated to check the place out. Probably influenced by the familiarity of the Stone Crock Bakery down the street, I usually headed to a location more familiar. Today I decided to check the place out and I'm really glad I did. Walking into the place I was welcomed by a friendly barista, an inviting and warm atmosphere, and myriad options for my breakfast meal. I eventually opted for two of the September specials; the harvest bagel (cucumbers, pickled onions, and cream cheese on my choice of bagel) and a toffee nut lattee (a latte sweetened with caramel and hazelnut, with a light whip on top). My bagel was delicious despite not having my usual everything bagel flavour, and I'm glad I opted for the cheddar and cranberry option. The latte, also, was delicious and being able to have dairy from local farmers was an additional treat! I would have taken a picture of my order, but it would seem I'm not very good at this whole "take the photo before I scarf the meal down" sequence of events 😅 All of this to add to some lovely service from the two workers this morning and I have to safely and surely say I will be coming back. Thank you for the lovely start to my morning!

A quick bite before shopping this morning. A delicious flat white, excellent butter tarts and rhubarb scone.

Totally worth the drive from Kitchener just for their flat white made with local milk. Smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced, it’s become a little ritual. Cozy vibes and great coffee every time.

I have been to the EcoCafe many times over the years. It’s such a rustic little cafe with chairs upholstered from vintage coffee sacks and other memorabilia. So a nice atmosphere, but the coffee is also top notch. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It’s around $10 for an americano and a latte. The latte was not only robust and creamy, it was also presented beautifully. I highly recommend stopping anytime you’re in the village of St. Jacobs.

Pottery store
Conestoga River Pottery, located in the village of St. Jacobs, showcases the works of Phil Yordy and other Canadian pottery artists. The shop features a variety of functional art pieces such as espresso and cappuccino cups, shaving cream holders, and sauce holders with unique rustic designs. Visitors can witness the creation process as the pottery wheel, kiln, and bisque room are all on-site.
I recently visited Conestoga River Pottery and purchased a beautiful salt and pepper set. It's a great place to explore if you're interested in seeing how pottery is made, which added an exciting touch to the experience. The variety of items they have on display is impressive, and I was really enthusiastic about their selection. The lady who served us was incredibly polite, nice, and helpful, making the shopping experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it’s a lovely shop with both unique pieces and excellent customer service!

This shop has a really nice atmosphere and is full of beautiful locally hand crafted pottery. My girlfriend bought an oil lamp and couldn't be happier with it. I spoke with the owner for a little while and it's clear that he has a true passion for what he does. His lifetime of experience definitely shows in his work.

Really pretty shop, love how they have utilized the building and space. Neat to be able to see different stages of pottery as they store work in progresses there too. Really lovely hand crafted original one of a kind items that are perfect for gifts or treating yourself. The craftsmanship that have gone into these pieces are unmatched. Can't wait to come back!

Every visit to St Jacobs has not been complete without a purchase from this store. So it's sad to hear that it will close at the end of this summer. I truly wish the potter all the best in his retirement and thanks for so many fantastic pottery pieces that now adorn out apartment.

I have fallen in love with this little gem of a place! Beautiful work. Kind staff-artists, and if you're lucky you can see them working on their craft! I was gifted (from my sister) mini expresso and cappuccino cups. Unique rustic designs. One a kind items, from shaving cream holders to sauce holders and many things in between. It's worth a look-see when you visit St. Jacob's main street. 😁

Pizza Takeout
Nestled on Front Street in St. Jacobs, 'Those Pizza Guys' has transformed from a mobile wood-fired pizza truck into a charming brick-and-mortar eatery since its opening in mid-2020. While take-out remains a favorite among locals, the option to dine in allows guests to savor their delicious pizzas fresh out of the oven. The cozy space features limited seating and an inviting patio for al fresco dining during warmer months.
I’d give 10 stars if I could! It was our first time at Those Pizza Guys, and we were very pleasantly surprised. We ordered their summer special Princess Peach pizza and the Sunny in St. Jacobs pizza, and they were both amazing! Super fresh ingredients, flavourful, and had a delicious thin crust. We also ordered the Pazzo Sticks which were fantastic too. The staff are super friendly, and the place is very cute and clean. Definitely coming back!

Absolutely fabulous wood-fired pizza! I ask for veg modifications to “Return of the Mac”, subbing out the beef for mushrooms and using non-dairy cheese. It was perfect. Also loved the Limoncello Spritz!

Best wood fired pizza I’ve ever had! We decided we wanted takeout for dinner, came across this pizza joint on google and gave it a whirl. We are glad we found this little gem! Hubby had the meatball sub and it was so tasty! Only thing we would mention/change was it was verrrry garlicky. I should mention I LOVE garlic but even for me it was a little much. I had the Mush love pizza and it was dynamite! The crust was perfect, pillowy soft but thin crust. Not over done like a lot of wood fired pizzas I’ve had before. The flavour was incredible. Can’t wait to come back and try all the other pizzas!

Nestled in the heart of Ontario, The Village of St. Jacobs is a charming destination steeped in history and culture. Long before European settlers arrived, this area was home to the Anishinaabe, Attiwonderonk (Neutral), and Mississauga Peoples. The village itself emerged from two nearby settlements: Conestoga, predominantly Germanic, and Winterbourne, settled mainly by British and Scottish immigrants. Even during winter's chill, The Village of St.
Very quaint and lovely main street that has a mix of Mennonite/country stores, trendy cafes and everything in between. I really enjoyed the toy store in the old church--really incredible selection of toys, games and puzzles in a heritage building. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

This place has its own charm. Very quaint and nice architecture around with so many different shops. The range of shops here is amazing, we saw so many spiritual, artistic decor shops, so many cute cafe and restaurants. Very clean streets and it’s nice and quiet and if you walk all the way down to the road you will see a bridge and Conestogo river flows beneath, it was very peaceful.

This spot is a real gem and the experience the two of us enjoyed was very memorable. The environment is simple yet, stunning and you are immediately greeted by a new friend. I’m in St Jacobs for a weekend away from the city and found Block Three. This place is so lovely. The customer service was on point! I was one of, if not the only one not from the area. You can order pizza from the place across the street when placing your beer order. I think I might go back tonight :)

This is one of our favourite breweries in KW. The St. Jacobs & Aberfoyle Model Railway is an enchanting destination that transports visitors to a meticulously crafted miniature world of Southern Ontario in the late 1950s. This captivating exhibit features a stunning array of model trains, including early diesel, freight, and passenger types, all set against a backdrop filled with intricate details like the Niagara escarpment and lively scenes such as construction sites and movie theaters.
This place is amazing not only with a collection of railway cars. This is history! It's such a colossal job to put it all together, to watch it, to take care of it, to keep it in working order, and to surprise visitors, from small to adults, with this human care.
Dr. B — Google review
It was great to go and see the model trains in action. The detailing on everything was great to see. Every building has something going on inside them. Lots of little funny things to discover in the set up as well. They have a 40 minute cycle of day and night. 32 minutes of daytime and 8 minutes of night. Workers were very informative about the trains and set up. It took 16 months to set up the complete thing. I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 only because I felt the night wasn't long enough to really give you a chance to walk around and look in the buildings. Really fun activity!
Christopher F — Google review
The doors and washrooms are somewhat wheelchair friendly, and the rest of the place is very barrier free. Lots of free parking available as well. The trains and the set up are spectacular. One could imagine so many stories. Certainly kid friendly, but it might be the adults you have to drag out kicking and screaming.

Fantastic place with an interesting history. It's run by some good ol'boys from the 50's that love the hobby. $5 admission and completely worth it for a big kid. Not a place I would take a wife or a kid under 13.

Must see! Wonderful attraction for all ages; their massive train model also features a "night time" so do plan to spending at least an hour there, including finding the Easter eggs! Prices are more than reasonable, but make sure you do your research of when they're open -- closed Jan-Apr (ish) for winter maintenance annually. The staff are incredibly passionate about what they do; highly recommended that you talk to them about their work!

Overall experience was pretty good. The charteurie board was good. I was a little confused as to how the restaurant was split from the outdoor to indoor with two different menus...was not explained fully to give a person options. The bakery staff was nice and helpful when the person who I ordered catering from via email failed to make sure my order was fulfilled by anyone or even, indeed bothered to arrange an appropriate time for me to pick it up! I arrived at the agreed upon time only to find the store wasn’t open and when I was finally let in, nobody had even heard of my order. I showed them the email confirming my order and the lovely bakery person did their best to get me what they could and gave me a discount but I never heard from anyone about this huge blunder after they took down my name and number.

Today I ask for a piece of swiss cheese and got billed for parmesan cheese. Always mistakes and over charges at this place. Last week it was bad best before dates. We dined for Mothers day brunch w 4 adults, 1 beer and 1 mimosa total and plain water for all. We had 2 small slices of spinach Quiches and 2 salmon salad sandwich dishes and a child ham sandwich. Desert 1 chocolate pretentious cake and 1 churro . All in all w tax & tip $150.00. They were on special but left us wanting more as the portions were ridiculously small. A $12 sliver of cake that even a French patisserie wouldn’t serve. Pretentious and not worth it. Tips starting at 18-20-25% ? Woke society needs to disappear. No reality at all. Co-owner Graham's passion for this unique dining experience shines through as he offers a rotating seasonal menu paired with an impressive selection of craft beers from Block Three.
We were strolling through the street of st. Jacobs when we stumbled across this beautiful place. We just thought we should give it a try and it was spot on from the word go! The server was so helpful and lively she gave us some recommendations for beers we got blood orange creamsicle sour and it was beautiful beer, we were also offered a sample of king street saison (Belgian blonde) but it was too much of pine flavour for me but the hollinger’s helles was good (German lager) so if you are a beer connoisseur this might be a place for you and all the beers are served from block 3 brewing company which is literally 2 minutes away from the place. We had buffalo fried chicken poutine, it was not that great I think as the buffalo sauce didn’t go well with the poutine gravy, but apart from that the vibe was awesome and we are definitely going to be back here.

We made a reservation in a dome. We gave our order and our food came very quickly. The server had offered bus blankets for our legs but never brought them. The heater works fairly well for the person closer to the heater. The other person is colder. Food was semi warm. The schnitzel wasn't bad but the potato salad was not so good. It might have been nice if the plates were warmed up to help keep the food warmer coming out from the kitchen to the dome through the cold air. The electric tea light in the candle was not turned on at our picnic table either. Service was good otherwise.

It was our first time coming to The Village Biergarten, and we loved it. The atmosphere is amazing, and even my son had a great time. He was happy to be there and enjoyed eating inside the dome. The food was delicious, cooked, and made to perfection. We were assisted by Dominique, and she was very polite, friendly, and super helpful. We didn't have to wait long for anything. We were very pleased with everything. I personally suggest making the dome reservation weeks prior. The process is very smooth, and following their policies in order to make changes on the actual reservation is very easy. We can hardly wait to come back again when there's more snow... it's totally worth it. Fully recommended 😉😎🤟🏻🇨🇦🍁

We got to taste test some super unique drinks - some of which were the most delicious I've ever had! (10/10 recommend the Warheads Blue Raspberry Liquor) If you get the chance to pop in, you won't be leaving empty handed! Incredible service, incredible drinks, incredible owner. Thanks for being the highlight of our afternoon! :)

On July 29, 2025, my Sisters and I went to St Jacobs Market with our visiting friend from England. We had a great time at the Market and then wanted to visit the Town of St Jacobs. We visited the shops and our last stop was the The Tasting House. Terry the owner received us with warmth, kindness and professionalism. He explained the ingredients in each of our drinks and then made special drinks which were excellent. We enjoyed the visit greatly, and then realized that wraps and paninis were on offer as well. Terry made us delicious paninis, which were great with the refreshing summer drinks we were having. All the while we shared great stories about the history of the area with Terry and also learned about the creation of special cocktails and drinks. Terry is an amazing man, and his Tasting House is a must visit when you visit St Jacobs. We look forward to visiting Terry and his wonderful Tasting House again. Thank you Terry!

This little place is amazing and is well worth the visit. We poked our head in for a quick, unassuming visit and stayed for over an hour. The owner is interesting, charismatic and informative. Try the Moondance and the Sangria. Get some ideas for mixed drink too. We bought some great pickled beans, horseradish and some smoked apple mustard. All are amazing. We also bought some Moondance. Highly recommended.

I love this place. Wonderful local products like honey, maple syrup, hot sauce and garlic powder. Oh, and Terry is the best!

I tried Terry's recipe for mulled wine and it was delicious! I added a bit more sugar as it was a tad tart for me (great if you don't like it too sweet, though). It's definitely my go-to from now on. Can't wait to try it in person! He knows his drinks.

I've been there 3 times and it has become as an attraction in st Jacobs town. Definately it's one of our stops when we go there. The owner is a nice and welcoming person, knowable about the products. Even we went there last year, he remembered me as the mexican family. Menu is small but well selected. I wish there are more tables to sit. The Tasting House is a must to visit in St. Jacobs.

We drove from Ancaster to attend the Weft Fest! We tried some delicious mulled wine and I ordered a roasted tomato, garlic and red pepper soup! All I can say is wow, it is by far the most tastiest soup I ever had! It has so much flavour and a nice texture. I ended up buying a jar to take home. Will definitely be back! Hilda

Toy Soup is a one-of-a-kind independent toy shop located in St. Jacobs, housed within a 100-year-old former church. The store offers an extensive range of toys, games, and novelties for all ages across its 3000sq ft space. Visitors can explore the original stained-glass windows and enjoy a beautifully decorated play area in the former church sanctuary.
Beautiful church turned into a toy store! Toy soup can be multi destination for everything as it has puzzles, toys, plushies, board games, trivia books and so much more! The variety of the store really stands out and they have wonderful collection! Do check it out if you are in st.jacobs. Being an adult did not stop me from buying Dragon eggs which you can dig to find and it was cute activity with my gf.

Such a great toy and puzzle store!!! Very unique being in a church ( i think one customer was offended they did such a thing to a church lol) but its so pretty inaide with the stain glass windows!! Sooo many toys and art stuff and lego stuff and puzzles to look at so much fun but somewhat pricey however its expected these days.... if you want it bad enough ull pay the price... staff were friendly and the place was clean. Thanks!! Will be back someday!

Absolutely fantastic selection of games, toys, and puzzles with really decent prices. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the store was well laid out and very organized. Highly recommend this place!

Probably one of the coolest local toy stores that we’ve been to. It’s an old Aglican church that has been repurposed to this cute toy stores. Plenty of toys and puzzles to choose from. There’s something for everyone from the young ones to the once young 🤭. The staffs are super friendly. My favourite are unique 3D printed toys. They priced fairly. There are free street parking. Definitely check them out when you’re in the area. Plenty of cute little shops in the neighborhood too.

Wide selection of toys, crafts, games and phenomenal selection of puzzles!!! Nostalgic games and toys from bygone eras. Be prepared to spend more time than you think you would..we took an hour because the puzzle selection is so large!

Extraordinary shop. Located in a former church (with stain glass windows) this store features a fantastic collection of Lego, toys, games, hobby items, crafts and puzzles (taking up the whole basement floor). What’s more, there are lovely people working there. It’s a must-pop-in sort of place if you’re ever in St Jacobs.

We came to the Farmers Market from Toronto and on our way back we had lunch at St Jacobs Grill. The food tasted great and the service was exceptional. A sweet lady with pretty blue eyelashes served us and created a wonderful atmosphere to go along with our yummy food. Overall it was a great time. Thank you!

a nice spot in St. Jacobs with a cozy atmosphere. We tried the fish and chips, and they were really good, crispy and flavorful. Definitely recommend them if you’re a fan of classic comfort food. On the other hand, the vegan burger wasn’t that impressive. but maybe it was just an off day. The staff were friendly and the service was great

My family and I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. We spent $170, expecting decent food and service, but got neither. The service was extremely slow, and we had to flag down the host multiple times just to get basic help. We ordered ginger ale, which came out flat and tasteless. When we asked, they said they had run out of syrup, and it would take time to restock—no apology given. After a long wait, our nachos appetizer arrived with stale chips. We mentioned it to the server, who apologized but still charged us for it. The main dishes were even worse. I ordered a medium-well steak sandwich, but it came rare. The mashed potatoes were instant, confirmed by the server, and tasted cold and awful. The quesadilla was falling apart, undercooked, and soggy. Nothing tasted fresh or properly made. The server made no effort to fix the issues, and we weren't alone—the table next to us was also complaining about food quality and service. We left extremely disappointed. I will not be returning, and I strongly recommend others avoid this place if you're expecting decent food or service. Please see the attached receipt for the date and time of our visit.

Had a lovely day out with my parents for my moms birthday! I had the pesto fettuccine, did had the Harvard burger and birthday girl the schnitzel. Pasta was alright, but my dad loved his burger! By the look of the cheese pull, it looked great! Mom's schnitzel was incredible! I tried a bite and wow! Flavourful, delicious, cooked to perfection! Bravo chef! Our waitress was lovely and helpful and the cherry cider I recommend on a nice sunny day! 🍒 🌞

July 24th, my very good friend and I decided to go to Jacob’s Grill (JG) for lunch after a long time at St. Jacob’s Market. We didn’t make reservations, regardless we had no trouble being seated. There’s a parking lot plus free street parking. Once inside, we were taken aback by how huge and gorgeous the restaurant is. The wood tables and comfortable chairs with ceramic floors, white walls, black ceiling lights, interspersed with strings of white lights is incredible. The restaurant is on the right of the building plus a bakery/coffee/cold drinks to the left. A hall connects to the Stonecroft Market with a Pub. Such a great idea. We both ordered the beet salad with greens, feta, red onion, walnuts and chicken. Such a refreshing and healthy salad. We loved it. A very good selection of salads, fish and chips, steaks, burgers, wraps, etc. you’ll definitely find something you like. JG has options for kids as well. I had a peach fresh pressed cider which was thirst quenching with wonderful flavour. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish it all. I can’t say enough about the wait staff; very attentive, sweet, kind girls. Thank you!!! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND you won’t be disappointed!!!! 😄❤️❤️❤️

Shout out to our server, Blythe. Sorry for the late review! Sirloin steak was great, vinegarette on the salad was perfect, the maple breakfast sandwich was so yummy. Staff took care to keep my daughter's plate free from gluten contamination. The service was a little slow, but you could tell that everyone was super busy, and the servers were all great. I also don't mind the wait to get an awesome dish.

Stone Crock Bakery, located in St. Jacobs, Ontario, is a former restaurant undergoing renovations to become a boutique-style establishment. The bakery offers a variety of delectable treats such as apple fritters, bagels, bread, and pastries that are highly recommended by visitors. The friendly and helpful staff ensure that orders are complete and offer specials on their products.
This bakery is a must-visit if you are in the St. Jacobs or surrounding area. Everything is fresh, tasty, and very reasonably priced. My family and I have been going to this bakery for over 30 years and the portion sizes are the same today as they were 30 years ago. Early in the morning, they have a “fill your bag” stand, where you can fill a grocery bag full of day-old baked goods for $27. The quality is fantastic, plenty of space inside, and wonderful gift options inside as well.

Stoney Crock Bakery is one of the highlights of St. Jacobs and a place I always enjoy visiting. The bakery is filled with the smell of freshly baked bread, pies, and pastries that taste just as good as they look. Everything is made with quality ingredients, and you can truly taste the homemade touch. Their pies and cookies are a must-try, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything here. What makes it even better is the bakery’s connection to the nearby stores and restaurants. It feels like part of a bigger community experience, where you can enjoy the bakery and then explore the other shops and eateries just steps away. A wonderful stop for locals and visitors alike!

Went to St. Jacobs for a day trip, and I would have to say that Stone Crock Bakery does not dissapoint! The atmosphere inside was fantastic, staff are friendly, washrooms are clean, and the food was amazing. Both the Rocky Road pastries and the peach lemonade we ordered were delicious and reasonably priced, being made with traditional methods and local ingredients. The newly-renovated interior is connected to the neighbouring Jacob's Grill and Stone Cook, offering accesible connectivity to local restaurants of your choosing.

St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Theatre is a charming performing arts venue housed in a historic school building dating back to 1867. The surrounding area has a rich history, with indigenous peoples and European settlers shaping the region's heritage. St. Jacobs Village offers an array of unique shops along King Street North, including specialty stores and pottery shops like Conestoga River Pottery. Visitors can also enjoy the festive St. Jacobs Sparkles event during the winter months.
Million Dollar Quartet was phenomenal! The performers were over the top as close to the originals as possible. We were amazed! If we weren't grinning from ear to ear we were dancing in our seats. The venue is very comfortable, with a night club feel with the tables if 4 people. It lends itself to excellent acoustics. We loved every minute and didn't want the music to stop.

Absolutely one of the best shows we have ever seen. We enjoyed every second of Million Dollar Quartet which is a historical play of a day in 1956 when Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley came to the Sun Records studio owned by Sam Phillips. Each of the 4 singers plus Elvis’s GF Dyanne were exceptional actors, singers and musicians backed by an excellent bass player and a drummer. There were approximately 25 songs, some as singles, others as duets or all together. Their musicianship was superb, particularly Jerry Lee Lewis on piano and Carl Perkins on guitar. The Schoolhouse seats 100 and we sat in the middle only 25’ away from the stage and it was amazing to see them up so close, every expression and move. Elvis really was terrific near the end of the 95 minute show with no intermission. We highly recommend seeing this performance, you will not be disappointed with non stop fun and entertainment. The Schoolhouse Theatre is a wonderful venue to watch a performance. Sound is excellent, air conditioning was perfectly cool on a hot day and sitting so close to the performers adds an extra feeling of appreciating the talented performers.

Recently, I visited RiverSong, where Chef Duff runs the banquet hall. On this occasion, they offered a special Mexican menu to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. I tried their flavorful Mexican Hamburger and Chicken Posole soup, while my friend opted for Chicken Quesadillas and also enjoyed the Chicken Posole soup. The food was delicious and served in generous portions. In fact, we were so impressed that we bought 1L containers of the soup to take home.
We got married at RiverSong in August 2023. The cozy relaxed atmosphere was perfect for our intimate ceremony and celebration. The property includes a rustic garden and overlooks the Conestoga River, which provided many beautiful photo opportunities. Bruce was wonderful in helping us plan our day, everything from the menu to incorporating special details we wanted such as a dessert table (which was a hit amongst our guests) and accommodating any dietary restrictions. His super-responsive communication helped us feel at ease every step of the way. The food was delicious and Chef Duff’s staff were incredibly attentive and helpful throughout the entire evening. We can’t thank them enough for helping us make our wedding day so special.

My hubbie and I had lunch at this quaint location today. The food was really delicious. My husband had a jerk chicken and pineapple rice bowl with cornbread on the side, which he said was outstanding. I had an individual pizza with pulled chicken, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and goat cheese, which was to die for... The portions were generous, prices were excellent, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. The outside gardens are beautiful, and the Conestogo River runs beside the property, so the views are really stunning. Both indoor or outdoor patio seating is available. The restaurant itself is certainly not fancy and very basically furnished. But what it lacks in style it certainly makes up for in its Chef inspired menu. We both highly recommend eating here and look forward to returning soon!

So many beautiful spots for photos, quiet, natural beauty all around, and great for those who don't want to have multiple venues for the day of. The food was fantastic, a comment I overheard was "best event food I've ever had". And incredibly affordable! Chef Duff was easy to communicate with in advance and had everything set up for the day of so I could just enjoy my day and didn't feel the need to stress about any of the details, they were all taken care of. If something ever deserves 6 stars, this is the place.

Like eating a home cooked meal at a family member's house. Relaxed and rustic setting on the Conestoga River. Have a meal inside the large dining room then relax and chat in the living room while the kids play. Then take a walk through the grounds up to a flat open area where turtles lay their eggs annually, then follow the same path the hatched baby turtles take down to the river. Stop back at the dining room for dessert and coffee before you head out. And don't miss the Ospreys and their large nest on a tall post at the side of the parking lot.

Located in a cozy setting with rustic decorations, Stone Crock Restaurant is known for its hearty comfort food like shepherd's pie and a buffet. Visitors have praised the friendly service and spacious dining area, making it suitable for gatherings. While some found the buffet underwhelming and geared towards an older demographic, others enjoyed the warm hospitality and tasty desserts. Whether you're looking for a casual lunch or a satisfying meal, this restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy classic dishes.
We are from Alberta visiting family. Our aunt and uncle showed us around the area and we ended up at Stone Crock for lunch. The service was wonderful and the large tent worked well for all. My husband and I went here about 4 years ago. Apparently, it was a landmark restaurant that was popular with the tourists. We went in with anticipation and left with utter disappointment. Bland boring buffet food that was clearly targeting a much older crowd. Mass produced unfavourable, luke warm food. We vowed never to return. Yesterday, I was reading my newly arrived book - Edna Staebler's Food That Really Schmecks book written the year I was born (1968) and was completely taken with all the recipes and history of the Waterloo area. In particular, her reference to these amazing fried golden desserts called FETSCHPATZE. I did a web search on how to pronounce this, and was led to an article online announcing The Stone Crock Restaurant was under new ownership, and was modeled after Edna Staebler's Food that Really Schmecks. My husband and I had to go try it out. I loved the concept that a local restaurant was bringing the true culinary cuisine of the region to the mainstream. We arrived with even more anticipation .. abandoning our Keto diet for what I knew would be quality worth going off script for. They did not disappoint.. apart from some glitches with staff, not knowing who was serving us, and the kitchen forgetting a sauce.. the food was incredible. We were seated at a large table for 6 in a room alone in front of the fireplace. So no worries about being too close to other patrons during covid-19. Staff were masked and our waitress Mary was a rock star. She noticed that no one had paid any attention to us for close to 10 minutes and made it her mission to offer "The Save". Guessing it was due to being newly open and training younger staff who seemed to be aplenty roaming around and doing very little and completely ignoring us while they conversed about what was supposed to do what and who got cut. Growing pains for sure... Hence the 4 star rating. I suspect this will change as more experience settles in with staff. The Brussels Sprouts roasted with pickles of all things are INCREDIBLE..and I am NOT a fan of Brussels sprouts normally. Pickled beets have the most unique flavour, coleslaw fresh and the side salad perfect. The schnitzel was the perfect blend of crispy, golden outside and juicy tender pork inside. My husband had the Jaeger ( mushroom ) and I had the farmer. The bacon for the farmer was thick sliced and easy to cut into, and the egg the perfect topping. The mushroom sauce was gloriously rich as it should be. ( My husband has gone to Bavaria many times and noted this Jaeger was absolutely comparable to homemade perfect versions he has enjoyed there) Finally the dessert the thing that got us here... The FETSCHPATZE.... These golden, crunchy balls of dough are the perfect spongey inside that can soak up the syrup and the icing sugar finishes it. You HAVE to try them. Sooo simple, and yet so delicious and comforting. Keto out the window.. it was worth every glorious bite. Next.. we want to try the cabbage rolls. We will make this part of our go to favourites for food that really schmecks. Well done...

Ordered two meals at lunch. Reuben sandwich with side of German potato salad. Marble rye was dry and tasted stale. Only 3 slices of corned beef in one sandwich. Each slice had been fried on a grill (like bacon) until dry, hard, chewy and had to be cut with a knife). Cheese and mayo based dressing was oily, flavourless and salt was over-whelming. German potato salad was just watery and tasteless, with no discernable vinegar or spice flavour. Schnitzel sandwich was tough and tasted re-heated. Over salted. Despite being very hungry, we both left half of our meals. First waitress took our order. Food delivered by a second. Neither returned until the first brought our bill and removed the plates. She made no inquiry if food was enjoyed (it clearly wasn't). Worst restaurant experience in recent memory. Would never return. DON'T EAT HERE. IT'S HORRIBLE!!!!!

Came here a few years ago and they had much fresher selection back then. Stopped by with friends near end of the day and everything was cleared out, staff looked reluctant to go home and didn’t really bother to acknowledge us. Products are quite expensive and selection is not as local as before. My friend did the fill-a-bag deal $12 for whatever you can stuff into a bag. Everything other than muffins were way over a day old, so selection was mediocre. Some items were 3-4 days old. Wouldn’t be a problem if just baked goods, but most of everything was with leftover glaze and at this point quite stale. Pie filling is VERY glutinous and unnaturally sweet, to the point that it felt rubbery and very little of the actual fruit (blueberries for ours). Pie crust pretty goon in comparison to the filling.

This restaurant is a fixture in St.Jacobs. It has been there for over 25 years. The decor is eclectic. An old style dinner with a smorgasbord and self serve sandwiches and deserts. The menu is basic road house with the addition of Mennonite favourites. The service is fast and efficient. The food is good and the portion sizes are large. It is very busy on weekends, and other market days.

Update: Oct. 2020... the new owner has implemented changes. e.g. no more buffet and a new Menu that seems less Germanic. And they have had an outdoor patio for months now, fully covered by a tent, that has a heat source for cool weather. The prices seem high, perhaps to cover the cost of the tent and other changes required due to the pandemic. My schnitzel sandwich with fries OR a small salad was $18. AND it seemed to be pre-made and then cooked when I ordered it. In a Germanic village, schnitzel should be made from scratch! My friends had wraps and said they were "OK". Service remains excellent and friendly.

Scenic Railroads
Waterloo Central Railway (Farmer's Market Platform) offers scheduled rides on historic steam locomotive trains, along with a museum featuring vintage cars and engines. Located in Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada, the railway takes passengers over the Conestogo River and an abandoned mill race in Woolwich Township. The slow ride from St. Jacobs to Elmira and back provides a great wild west experience with galloping horses, riders in cowboy hats, and old-fashioned train carriages.
This heritage train journey offers a delightful way to experience the beauty of the countryside. The picturesque views from the train are truly captivating, making it a memorable experience. The friendly and informative staff enhances the trip, providing interesting insights and anecdotes along the way. The hop-on hop-off feature allows for flexibility, giving passengers the freedom to explore different locations at their own pace. The train itself is a marvel, with its vintage charm and comfortable seating. The attention to detail in maintaining the train's historic character is impressive. As you chug along the tracks, the scenery outside changes, revealing green and beautiful farms, agricultural fields, and perhaps even a glimpse of some polutry animals. The personalized service adds a warm touch to the experience. The staff are knowledgeable, courteous, and happy to assist. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a relaxing day out, this heritage train journey has something for everyone. It's a unique blend of historical charm, scenic beauty, and personalized service. Highly recommended for those seeking a few relaxing hours with a unique scenic beauty. Overall, a wonderful experience that will leave you with lasting memories.

Went on a Mother’s Day high tea the experience was wonderful most of all the staff was very nice and friendly. Something different for old and young alike and ride was smooth and I recommend everyone should experience it atleast once. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the although the menu was very good the taste could have been better.

For a relaxed Saturday activity, try it. The middle car has no window glass so you can feel the wind, the other cars have air conditioner and comfy seats. You can walk in between cars. There are snacks available for sale on train. It is a slowwww train and only for those just wanna have a lazy Saturday.

You can hop on/hop off but we went purposefully to ride the train. We did the whole loop to look at the fall colours which did not disappoint. They play 'train themed' music and announce the history of the areas the train passes. It's a nice way to spend 2 hours on a weekend. Enjoy!

We took a ride on the railroad, and it was a great experience. The staff onboard were wonderful, very friendly, and informative. You can choose to ride the whole loop or do a hop on hop off service. It was a cool experience for young and old alike. Also nice music aboard the train.

The ride was smooth, we purchased tickets online. The staff is all volunteers and very nice. They even let us move to 1st class for part of the trip and enjoy the cozy couches. The path was so beautiful both ways to and from Elmira. Highly recommend.

Brilliant experience train take u how earlier era look like the management is perfect and helpful they have two coach one premium class and two normal class I don't find that much difference as only seating style is different rest nothing different so if ur pocket is heavy and want to spend than go ahead for premium class rest they arrive mostly on time to pick plus u can hop in hop out to different station and see beautiful countryside village and markets and good food option to taste so worth the try

Amazing! A must for family bucket list. Went on the Thanksgiving steam special. It's an enjoyable experience for all ages. The train staff were so friendly and they really make the experience that much more enjoyable. The tickets you purchase go towards keeping these events going and the trains in working order. The staff are all volunteers! Worth every penny!

Health Valley Trail

4.8
(16)
Health Valley Trail is a scenic and diverse trail that offers a great outdoor experience. It is suitable for biking, walking, and hiking, with picturesque views of rivers, fields, and forests. The trail features wide pathways and open spaces as well as heavily treed areas. While the trail can be muddy in some areas after rain, it provides an opportunity to enjoy nature up close. There are also nearby restaurants and a brewery within walking distance for a post-hike meal or refreshments.
This trail is ideal for a pleasant stroll, featuring the magnificent WISEOLDOAK tree as its focal point. Tucked away from the road, it conceals a surprisingly extensive pathway within. For those who relish discovering new trails, this one is sure to delight with its hidden charm!

Started at the entrance in St Jacob’s. This section of the trail is relatively flat, lots of people out walking, running and biking. Nice shaded patches, however some bugs/mosquitoes came with this. The grass and trees are a luscious green right now, and probably so beautiful in the fall!

Great trail! Walked it end to end and back which was a bit ambitious but still doable. Took about 2 hours. Lots of variety and LOVE that you’re right next to the creek the whole way. My dog had an absolute blast! The half closer to University was pretty muddy right now, I’d definitely recommend hiking boots. But I’d assume during warmer months it’s fine. Can’t wait to come back throughout the seasons and see the horses and cows everyone’s talking about!

Great location, restaurants & a brewery within walking distance, so you have lunch after a good hike. Parking is great, located behind some businesses, benches located near the Grande River for perfect viewing of nature. This is a relaxing trail, beautiful river & the path system is ideal, it winds through picturesque forest & it is definitely pedestrian oriented. Wide path ways & open spaces, as well as heavy treed areas give you a nice overall experience. Informational postings by the path on the animal life & a off leash dog haven off the beaten trail as well. Thoroughly enjoyed my walk, really friendly ppl walking by saying "Hi" & had a great pizza from Those Pizza Guys. Really loved it!💛

Tried this trail by bike and it's definitely doable. Entered off University Ave and rode to St Jacob's for lunch. Returned along the highway trail towards farmers market and back to Bridge St. Probably not a great option for buggies due to some rough areas. Bridge is currently under construction but most people are still using it. Some really nice scenery along the rivers and fields. Can be muddy and boggy in some areas after rain. Guessing that bug spray would be a good option for the summer. Kind of a hidden gem. Definitely worth the visit.

Really long trail and beautiful place to take a walk to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Goes all along the Conestogo river with lots of geese and ducks as well. There’s a place where you need to be cautious about Coyotes - don’t go alone here. But overall it’s a magnificent place to go to with friends or family. Has a dog park too. Highly recommend. Will visit this place during spring definitely.

Home goods store
Hamel Brooms is a charming store located in the heart of St. Jacobs, offering handmade corn brooms that are meticulously crafted on site, taking about 10 minutes to create each one. Visitors may even have the chance to witness the broom-making process during their visit. In addition to their renowned brooms, the shop also sells antiques and handmade wooden items.
Must visit business in St. Jacob. They have brooms and more things to purchase. Very unique family operated shop. Ive been before and didn’t purchase a broom - but went back this weekend and made sure to get myself a broom. Highly recommend supporting this business!
Hajer K — Google review
Great mix of quirky, modern and rustic predominately handcrafted pieces. The building itself also shows it's impressive history with the original tools and manufactured metal work still being displayed.

Very helpful. A wonderful shop. Been before to purchase a smaller broom. Wanted a larger one this time to take back to the UK, so he cut the handle down to size for my airplane hold bag!!!
Paul C — Google review
Very nice place full of good stuffs and you might have chance to see how the owner makes broom.
Ingrid T — Google review
Love their brooms, such beautiful craftsmanship. A lot of gift ideas too. Worth the drive.
N. B — Google review
Really neat authentic shop, that not only sells brooms but wands too! With first day of school right around the corner, be sure to knock these 2 essential hogwards items off your back to school shopping list with one visit! You'll be ready for charms AND flying! Haha But seriously wands are sold here which is really neat. I love how you can watch them make the brooms as they are doing it. As you enter the shop and work area you're transported through time with sights and smells that are like no other. They've expanded and have taken over the entire floor /back area too. A little gem with neat things to look at!
Elizabeth C — Google review
A nice little shop with great character, not only selling corn broom, they also sell metal craft. Love it.
Helen L — Google review
Excellent customer service with one of a kind housewares and gifts. My 8 year old son was so happy to find a "Quidditch broom". And I was glad it was handmade locally, and s fraction of the price of the plastic brooms we found at Hogsmeede in Universal! 😆

During their visit to the area, the individual stayed at a local hotel and decided to order a large Hawaiian pizza and salad for delivery from Pop's Pizza. However, they soon realized there was an error with their order and promptly contacted the restaurant for assistance. The restaurant quickly rectified the mistake by delivering the missing items along with a heartfelt apology. This remarkable display of customer service left a lasting impression on them.
Best pizza I have had in years. Crust is perfectly crispy and the toppings are great and perfect amount.. Extremely delicious and is now my go to place.
Deborah M — Google review
I've noticed a real improvement in the taste lately-definitely a positive change since the new management! The pizza was fresh and flavorful, and the crust had a nice texture. The service was friendly and quick, which made the experience even better. Looking forward to coming back again soon!

Hello, I decided to give Pop’s Pizza try, and I’m so glad I did! This time I was more than impressed. The staff greeted me right away with a smile, and I didn’t have to wait at all before being helped. The service was fast, friendly, and attentive — they really made sure I felt welcome. Got good food with customisation. The atmosphere was great, and it was right around lunch time, yet everything was handled smoothly and efficiently. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I’ll definitely be coming back again! Not to mention last time I had to wait because of stone oven issues they had but Really the same stone oven pizza was made and delivered to me in record time of minutes with quantity look like doubled. First time trying Pops since new ownership and very disappointed. We used to order all the time. We won’t be ordering again. I was told 40 mins for pickup when I called. Arrived on time and was told 10 more mins. Came back in 10 and was told 5 more mins. Two pizzas (one L and one M) came to $32! Both crusts were burnt and hard, almost stale. Hardly any toppings. Restaurant was dirty and run down. Very disappointed. New ownership letting down the brand.

There was a time Pop's pizza was good, now it's very disappointing, no lie the worst pizza I ever got. I ordered a deluxe pizza and man there said that they ran out of mushrooms, I said no problem, the guy charges me for mushrooms on the pizza
Tanner P — Google review
Service was terrible I just ordered an assorted sub. VERYYYYYY DISAPPOINTED!!! My sub was supposed to have lettuce (not brown lettuce) Tomatoes - there was none!! Green peppers - shocker none My bun was absolutely burnt. Also the person that took my order said he couldn't understand me so was going to hang up on me. Lastly cut the sub in half and update your online prices !!!
Barbara — Google review
I have been eating here for years and probably still will from time to time since its so close to my work, but there has been a very noticeable drop in quality. The ingredients taste a lot cheaper and I think maybe the pizzas need to stay longer in the oven, sometimes the cheese hasn't even melted fully and everything immediately slides off the slice. Not my favourite.
Nathan B — Google review
The pizza's quality was acceptable, however, the requested extra cheese and sauce may have been omitted. The crust exhibited a neutral flavor profile.
