This place is stunning: the attached sculpture museum is top draw to. The ruins are just a short (inexpensive) motor taxi trip from town. Make sure you visit the museum on the town square too. Awesome. If you've not done your homework get a guide to get the most out of your trip.

I had an absolutely incredible time at the Martian ruins in Copan Ruinas! I went around 3:30pm and was one of very few people actually walking around the archaeological site. The site is a nice walk from town. There’s a sidewalk on the left hand side of the road that leads you through the trees and past a couple Mayan statues. Definitely beats walking along the side of the road. Make sure to get a ticket at the Park building on your left as you enter the park. Otherwise you’ll need to walk all the way back from the ruins to do so. There wasn’t much in terms of labeling on where to go for what. The tickets for just the ruins were $20 and it was an additional $15 for the tunnels and I believe $10 for the museum (if you’re a foreigner). Truly I was by myself at points, walking around these ancient ruins which felt other worldly. It was a really cool experience. There were also wild macaws and other animals scurrying around, so keep an eye out if you’re a bird or animal enthusiast!

The site is beautifully preserved and well-organized, making it easy to explore while still feeling immersed in its ancient atmosphere. The carvings and hieroglyphs are incredibly detailed, and with a good guide, you gain a deep appreciation for the sophistication of the Copán kingdom. Surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful surroundings, it’s a serene experience that invites both reflection and wonder. Copán is one of the most impressive Maya sites in Central America, and visiting it is a must for anyone interested in history, archaeology, or simply unforgettable travel experiences.

A fascinating place to visit! We hired a guide, Marisio, to take us through the park and tunnels-he was awesome! So much more has been uncovered since I last visited these Mayan Ruins back in the mid 1980s and it continues to be an active archeological site.

Unlike many ruins that keep you at arm’s length, Copán invites you in—you can climb, explore, and touch the stones that have stood for centuries. Expansive Mayan ruins. Very impressive history and remnants with lots of details and preserved artifacts other places have shipped off to museums. It makes it feel more authentic and picture Copán at its zenith.

San Rafael remains the G.O.A.T. of hot sauce in Copán Ruinas, Honduras, and the reigning champion is still Ms. Habanero Azz Blaster herself. This time we stayed for a full meal. Since the restaurant is connected to a dairy farm, the obvious choice was the grilled cheese and tomato soup — nothing short of DIVINE. Our waiter happily brought an array of hot sauces, and we paired them with their impressive selection of German beers and imported whiskeys. Just as memorable as the food was the outstanding staff, whose warmth and attentiveness made the entire dining experience perfect. And then, of course, the hot sauces. The lineup has something for everyone — from the mild Jalapeño Cilantro Pesto to the lively Mango Habanero, all the way to the queen of fire herself, the Carolina Reaper (pro tip: she pairs beautifully with avocado). Whether you’re a foodie, a flavor-seeker, or a full-on hot sauce fanatic, this spot is an absolute must in Copán Ruinas.

This place is the best! Had the most delicious sandwich (with side salad or patatos) and coffee was also very high quality. Yum! Prices are taxes included. You can decide for yourself how much tip you will give.

This place is absolutely a gem. The coffee, food, service, atmosphere, and service were impeccable. San Rafael is now my favorite cafe of all time.. I only wish I could take it home with me. If you are in Copan Ruinas, you must make sure you check this cafe out. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

Our party has 6 people. Ordered Chemex coffee which is good, especially when it's cold. Nicely toasted sandwiches are big enough portion. People in our party love the fries and ordered extra plate. However, the roasted beef sandwich has shredded beef with not much flavor, and the Philly Steak did not taste mushrooms and hardly found any mushrooms in the sandwich. The restaurant also sells their brand of coffee and other local products. We bought their coffee beans, honey and jams.

Overall the ambiance is great. The servers are pleasant and accommodating. The food quality is quite good. My issue is that they have “malteadas” (milkshakes) on the menu which say are made with ice cream and cream (milk is fine). The server said they are made with milk and ice…seriously! He ordered the Philly cheese steak with fries and it was good. It was served on Texas toast and quite delicious. I ordered the cobb salad and it was disappointing. I chose this restaurant because I really wanted a great SALAD! What I received was a cut up cucumber, a sliced tomato, a nicely cut avocado, with some pieces of sautéed chicken, and a cut up roll. It was far from the SALAD I wanted that should have had lettuce. I expected more for the general quality of the overall experience.

People are kind. There are many coffee shops and restaurants nearby. There is mass on Thursdays at 7:00pm and Sundays at 8:00am, 10:00am and 7:00pm. Red taxis are right across the church and two museums are in front of the park.

A fascinating place, open day and night, a place meant for walking through, sitting, people-watcihng, meeting friends, catching a red moto-taxi, just enjoying. It's a municipal marvel that feels very safe and welcoming. It's central to everything -- hence it's name, Parque Central of Copas Ruinas.

Kind people. Lots of food vendors. Great place to try Hondurus cuisine.

Can you tell me any other Latin American square where you can see Macaws? 🤩 They have a little home in the trees right in the square and someone nearby to make sure that no one is throwing stones at them. Apparently there are baby macaws inside too. Aside from that this small and cute square is where the locals convene. It's not a very big square but a nice glimpse into the pace of living here. It's also easy to grab a tuk tuk to get to the ruins or attractions nearby (costed $2 to go to Macaw Mountain Park) A charming square for sure!

Spending the evening and twilight hours here was so lovely. There's a fair amount of food stalls that set up shop at the edge of the park which are delicious and very affordable.

Edit: we got food poisoning don’t eat here. If you are a tourist I think this place is fine, but for people who want authentic this was absolutely horrible, search elsewhere because this is not it. Services was non existent in a not busy restaurant. Atmosphere was cute though.

This is not a fajita. Grill vegetables not boul broccoli. Vegetarians and vegan RUN don’t walk from this place!

This place mischarged us on our bill 3 different ways. First, they charges us 106 for daiquiri when their menu clearly stared they were 96. Then, they charged us for a beer that we didn't drink. Finally, when they added up the bill, they did it wrong, and added an extra 20 lempira. When we complained, they did remedy the problem and take $10 off our bill. The food was decent, not amazing but not terrible, and the chips were some of the only good(not stale or hard) tortilla chips we had in both Guatamala or Honduras. The atmosphere is really cool, lights everywhere and a cool stick of balancing drinks on their head. But the mischarging of the bill really soured our experience. Finally, the service was pretty bad and we had to flag people down constantly to order food and get the check.

Woooow! It’s such an amazing place. The food is delicious and well done. The atmosphere is great, with amazing decoration and music. The staff is so cool, not only they were super nice they carry stuff on their head, and this gives the place a special touch. They have different kinds of beers and as a compliment they brought a small portions of kind of nachos while waiting for food and at the end they brought choco bananas as desert. (Sorry for the pictures, I couldn’t hold myself!)

Really enjoyed this very unique restaurant. Cool atmosphere and very good food with options for different diets. Though it definitely caters to tourists, it was recommended to me by a local and it didn't disappoint.

Nice warm place with averague but overpriced food. Service is good but not great. Been here several times but this last time I felt the priced very steep. Dont forget to ask for desert! Enjoy

I visited the store for my dinner as my hostel’s recommendation. Beef sencilla was great, fulfilling and cheap(L.70), so I decided to ordered something else to take out for lunch on the next day on shuttle. However, their ham “sandwich” shocked me. Two thin tiny toasts was called sandwich and cost L.40. I felt like scammed.🙄

There is no signage with this name but the location is absolutely correct. Easy dated atmosphere, good food, great prices, friendly staff.

Quaint little family owned pupuseria. Lunch hours is packed with local workers but fast service. We had the cheese and loroco (Loroco is an edible, and most scrumptious flower) pupusas, and grilled pork chop and beef fajita. Price of items were very competitive and the food delicious !

Cheap and delicious Honduran food! The atmosphere is cute and lively. The food took a bit to come but when it did, it was delicious! Definitely would recommend if passing through Copan!

There’s really no words on how beautiful this place. This place me us feel at home plus the food and drinks was made from scratch a the second bar. The views is breath taken all I could really say if you in the area this is the best cozy hotel there. Rooms are very clean and the food is delicious. Also be aware which we didn’t have a problem bringing a none awd drive care the roads are all rock and it’s up in the hills. We still didn’t have an issues but don’t be surprise when you get to the section where is all dirt road up to the hotel. But the hotel is well worth to go to. We had a great experience.

Stayed here while visiting Copan arqueológico site. We enjoyed our stay. Our room was somewhat rustic and basic, but serviceable. Probably our only complaint was that the bathroom was maybe a little too basic. However, in the context of it’s location within a nature reserve It’s somewhat understandable. And the location is the highlight. Beautiful spot in the midst of trees, and a host of beautiful flowers and other plants. The absolute highlight was seeing the groups of wild macaws perched in the branches above and flying overhead. What an incredible site! There was a decent little restaurant on site, and a very nice little outdoor bar, perched on an overlook over the valley and River below. A lovely place for a cool drink after a hot morning, exploring Copán. The site is a bit off the beating path, a couple of miles outside of the city. So it is a bit out of the way, however, a quick tuck tuck ride, will get you too, and from the center of town.

The food was pretty nice, thoughtfully prepared, and full of authentic flavors. It’s clear that care goes into each dish, blending traditional ingredients with a refined touch. Dining here feels unhurried and intimate, with the sounds of nature all around. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe is relaxed yet elegant. Whether you come for a meal, a sunset drink, or a full stay, Hacienda San Lucas delivers a memorable, serene experience — a perfect complement to exploring the nearby Copán Ruins.

Breathtaking Views & Exceptional Service We only came here for dinner, but I left wishing we had stayed at this hotel. The view was absolutely breathtaking, and the food was some of the best I’ve had in this country—truly unforgettable. Karla was wonderful; she helped us not only with our dinner reservation but also with arranging horseback riding and a zip line adventure. Every experience she organized was amazing and added so much to our trip. Even though we didn’t stay overnight, this place left such a great impression that I’d love to return and spend more time here. Highly recommend for both the food and the incredible experiences.

Its a good place to chill and watch the sunset , the food is great however the portions vs the price could be more generous the menu also can be able to provide more variety.

It has been decades since we have stayed here, but it was, and will remain memorable for a lifetime. We arrived shortly after dusk and greeted by candlelight as there was no electricity. If Flavia is still there, greetings from Atami, Japan where we're living in splendid retirement.

This was my favorite moment in Honduras! I had an unforgettable experience visiting this beautiful park. The variety of birds is astounding, and it's clear that they are well-cared for in their naturalistic habitats. The park is immaculately maintained, with lush surroundings that create a serene atmosphere perfect for a leisurely stroll. One of the highlights of my visit was getting up close to rare and exotic species. The interactive exhibits and feeding sessions are both educational and fun, making it an ideal destination for families and bird enthusiasts alike. It's easy to spend several hours here, soaking in the sights and sounds of nature.

We loved this place. The birds are gorgeous. The heat of the day wasn't as strong on the sanctuary. I appreciate what they are doing to care for the national bird of Honduras and would encourage others to go, as ticket and gift shop sales fund the organization.

Way way way better than expected. Set in a beautiful river canyon, this sanctuary and hatchery boasts very nice birds in a super nice layout. Seems thoughtful and well planned start to finish. Workers all very friendly. Felt very good about spending money here while in Copan Ruinas. Very informative with many infographics to let you know what is what. Recommend for sure.

This place is awesome. You walk through a forest like atmosphere that allows you to see as well as interact with various tropical birds including macaws and toucans. You even get to hold them and take pictures. Definitely worth it to go to

Such a neat place, and a sanctuary as well! You can learn a lot from the staff and all the signs... Nice walk through the forest, about 80+ birds, and even a few in an open courtyard for photos. Great coffee too!

Absolutely worth the time and money to visit especially if you are an animal lover! We had a wonderful time wandering among the birds and learning all about the wonderful work that is being done to revitalize the native bird population of Copan.

Lovely afternoon under the trees chatting to the birds. Very well cared for, tidy, clean facilities and very chatty specimens. Loved seeing the varieties and care that you put in. English everywhere which was great. Thank you and would highly recommend.

10000% recommend! If you purchase a ticket, you can also return using the same ticket/wristlet the next day. There’s a cafe with WiFi for a coffee break if you want to rest and really spend a long time here. The birds are gorgeous and fascinating. The staff are super kind, passionate, and knowledgeable! There’s also a place where you can take a picture with the macaws around you. A plus was the energetic pups on the premise. Besides the main characters (macaws), I was pleasantly surprised at the other birds they’ve sheltered ! There’s also informational placards in both Spanish and English next to each bird

10/10, we loved our visit the the Macaw bird park! Would highly recommend. Staff were friendly, snack bar was good and of course the birds were great! Huge selection of birds in and out of the cages!

Its 10 min drive from down town Copan Ruins, entrance is 250 lempiras o 10usd . There is a verity of Macaws , Parrots, Tucan and owls. This could take aprox an hours , macaws are flying free around the site also you can get to see the whole incubation process all the way to just days before their release.

Fantastic place to visit. They are doing a good job of rehabilitating the birds. The walk is really pretty and the garden is beautiful, a REALLY lovely place to relax and hang out in one of the many chairs around the forest and watch all the birds (not just macaws)

Feeding times are 8 AM and 12 PM! Come during these times and you can see the birds nearby descend to feast. What a beautiful thing they are doing to preserve the macaw and bird population in the area. The location is in a tranquil area with a river running through the vicinities. It was really cool to be up and close with these majestic creatures. You can pay some money to feed the birds as well and it was a very fun experience. To note though you may be able to see the scarlet macaws chilling at the entrance of Copan ruins too but either way it was a great way to spend some time in the afternoon admiring and seeing the sanctuary's preservation efforts. You can grab a tuktuk from the Copan Square to the sanctuary for around $2 each way at the time of this writing.

Lovely place to sit and relax spent about 3 hours here just taking in the views even spotted some wild Macaws flying by. As for the items they were beautifully presented but I found the brownie to be a little dry and the hot chocolate didn’t have much flavour. Ice cream on top though was delicious!

This place is the definition of artisanal. Everything is made in-house, and you can sample all of the hot sauces and chocolates. You’re welcomed with a small cup of tea and a bite to cleanse the palate, then set free to explore. The café focuses on teas and chocolates, so there aren’t major food options. Eat beforehand, but come ready to taste some of the finest specialty items Honduras has to offer. It’s well worth the walk or quick tuk-tuk ride up the hill. A sweet and spicy stop you’ll remember long after the climb!

A beautiful, jungly place to spend an afternoon with friends and enjoy a unique tea and a loca rendition on different desserts. Really lovely and responsive service from kind staff!

A nice bougie place with a beautiful view to have some organic chocolate. I had the cold chocolate cacao with milk and a brownie with a scoop of ice cream on top. I loved the soft piano music and the calming vibe, so I decided to stay for the entire afternoon after visiting the macaw sanctuary.

A nice place on a hill with great views where to enjoy a good cup of tea or hot chocolate and to buy artizanal chocolate, tea, cocoa or other things for home.

Had a nice relaxing afternoon treat. Was a 15-minute walk from the main square, uphill part of the way, so take a moto-taxi if you are not mobile. The waitress was very kind and sweet despite us not being as good at speaking Spanish as well as we should be. There is a large selection of artisan made chocolates, teas, tinctures, and spices, along with beautiful photographs. I appreciated the large selection of teas, choice of hot or cold. The chocolate drinks, hot, cold and choice of variation were obviously made the real way with true cocoa. My hot chocolate came with a side bowl of raw sweetener so the customer can add it to their taste. I had a ginger and Noni iced tea to cool down, and the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream was as good as I imagine it to be. My friend had an iced black tea and was very impressed with the chicken tamales

Great place. A lot variety of the chocolate, sauces, teas. You can eat here too (desert o tamales) the view is amazing. The attention is good.

Unique restaurant in the heart of Copán Ruinas’ cobblestone streets. Friendly staff, including Thomas, the gregarious owner, who welcomed each guest and interacted exuberantly with our group. Not sure if the beer is brewed there, but it was wonderful as was the lovely German cuisine. I’ve never had schnitzel, and I was very impressed. Everyone else enjoyed their homemade sausage, German potato salad, cheesy spaetzle and the beer battered onion rings we shared. I promised Thomas a great review and here it is.

Very surprised to see how packed this bar is since there's no big sign and just a small entrance stairs down to the basement. Went by friend's recommendation. We actually waited for available table. People are friendly and sharing tables. There are only two types of beer served every day. Although my favorite beer was not served that day but I did like the one I had. The food is original and uniquely good. We went after dinner, so ordered sausage and fries to share. The bar close at 10pm.

Highest quality Hefeweizen and Marzen on tap when we visited. Following good protocols. The sausage plate was delicious as was the Käsespätzle. The half order is enough for all but the biggest appetite. Owner/brewer Tomas is passionate about his craft and the quality of his beer and food. Highly recommend.

If you get tired of rice and beans and find yourself in Copan, this place will satisfy. Good German fare, especially käsespätzle and the wheat beer you have to try. The sausage on the other hand was dry, so maybe go with the schnitzel instead. Small beer apparently only for women, think that in 2023 we could get over this "Bavarian tradition" :) Seems to be popular with locals so definitely not a tourist restaurant.

Been here a number of times over years of work trips to Copan. This is a truly special place. Go and discover it for yourselves. Forget reading the details about how DELICIOUS the beer is, and how SPOT ON fantastic the food is…just go and be surprised!

Honduras is a haven for hot sauce lovers, and Mary Hotel & Restaurant is no exception. Their menu offers plenty of delicious dishes that serve as the perfect canvas for their incredible sauces. The Habanero was the clear winner, with the Temporada just a bit too mild for my taste. The mix of Mango Habanero and Chiltepe was addictive, especially with the baleada especial - the best thing I’ve eaten so far on this trip! Come for the food and don’t leave with the hot sauce 🌶️ 🥵

Came here for a meal a few weeks ago. Food was nice and service was good. Unfortunately pretty much everything we tried to order they didn’t have. There were no lemons so we were unable to order any cocktails, no white wine only red and they didn’t have the loroco sauce either. Bit frustrating really so we never bothered going back. You can pay with contactless/Apple pay here.

I love the fact that they have vegetarian options. I ordered some pupusas (1 with loroco, 1 with beans) they were delicious! My boyfriend ordered a vegetarian plate and he enjoyed it. We also ordered a michelada that was huge and mouth-watering and a tasty natural juice with pineapple, cucumber & ginger. The prices were great for the amount of food we ordered. I highly recommend this place!

The food is good. I had churrasco and the meat was very tender. Service is nice but barely speak English. Prices are quite reasonable. Location is near the central square, next to hotel Mary. Ambiance is very dark with dark wood furniture and small light. Brighter during the day with the daylight in the courtyard.

Really nice pupuseria in the middle of Copan Ruinas. We tried several options of their pupusas (pollo con quesillo, ayote, jamon..) and all of them were pretty good. For me the tastiest thing was the taste of pupusa dough itself. In others places sometimes the dough tastes very underseasoned - this one has a at least a pinch of salt! Our pupusas came with a little side salad as well. Thank you :)

Pupusas were just okay and overpriced. Soup was also okay, came in a tiny cup. The flan (pictured in the case with a very unattractive carrot cake) was awful, with an unpleasant grainy texture everywhere except one small layer inside. Like others have mentioned, I also experienced trickiness with the charges - they added an extra fifth charge to my bill of four items! They do have WiFi and take cards, but I won't return for mediocre food at dishonest prices.
