San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye, is a gateway to the Belize Barrier Reef, offering easy access to top snorkeling and diving sites like Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. The town combines sandy streets, colorful wooden buildings and golf-cart traffic with a relaxed, beach-focused atmosphere. Visitors come for clear turquoise water, reef and flats fishing, and boat trips to nearby cayes. After dark, oceanfront bars and casual seafood spots give the island a low-key but lively nightlife.
With favorites like Sandbar Beachfront Restaurant and Bar, Pupuseria Salvadoreno, and Palapa Bar and Grill, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Sandbar Beachfront Restaurant and Bar and Wild Mangos so you can get the best taste of San Pedro while you’re here. Elvi's Kitchen, a renowned dining establishment in San Pedro, Belize, has a rich history dating back four decades. What began as a humble takeout window has evolved into a celebrated restaurant known for its delectable seafood and authentic Mayan cuisine. Despite its popularity, the restaurant maintains the inviting ambiance of a family-owned business.
Amazing place. Took my fiancée to dinner for her birthday. The food was delicious. Was very late for our reservation but we were able to sit in the bar until a table opened up. I appreciate them for accommodating us. Would definitely go again!

If you are an aficionado of flavorful cuisine, THIS. Is. It! - The food here is amazing, the service is impeccable and I can’t wait to go back. Must have items are the conch fritters, sautéed coconut shrimp, signature curry and whole fish. This is so worth it.
Todd M — Google review
Delicious food - especially the traditional Mayan curry with fish. The service was excellent. The vibe was lovely with a saxophone player. Everything was wonderful! It was a tad on the pricey side but for what you get it’s worth it. Thank you!

The best meal I’ve ever had in my life. Went back twice in a row. The special tonight - aged wahoo was incredible. Whole snapper was incredible. Octopus, calamari, crab claws, grouper fillet. All highly recommend! Darwin was our server & he is just the best.
Alyssa G — Google review
One of the best meals I have ever eaten! Started with stone crab claws in garlic butter, which were divine. The margaritas were cool and went down way too easy. For entrees we had Jennie’s signature curry with fish and black bean sauce with fish. The curry was so good I almost licked the bowl clean! The black bean sauce with sublime! Ate so much did not have room for dessert but I imagine it would be magical as well. Absolutely awesome place for a perfect meal!

Elvi’s kitchen was one of my favorite restaurants in San Pedro! Located in the heart of San Pedro, this classic restaurant offers delicious food, great vibes, and excellent service in a wonderful atmosphere! I went here twice during my time in San Pedro because it was so good! It is kid friendly too! The cocktails are great, the food is amazing, and the staff is all so friendly! Definitely a must try in San Pedro!

I ordered the blackened grouper and it was excellent. Fresh, flaky, and seasoned with just the right amount of spice. It had depth without being heavy, and it paired really well with the potato salad. Good atmosphere and a place I’d definitely come back to for seafood.

When you come to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye Belize, this is A MUST. imaginative and creative dishes won't disappoint. We sat at the bar so reservations are definitely recommended. We were very entertained by the mixologists and the service was attentive.

Estel's is a great place to get some good Belizean food such as the Fry Jack, which is a traditional dish. They also have outdoor seating and serve alcohol. The restaurant is located on the beach in San Pedro.
Just absolutely loved Estel’s! It’s a small seaside cafe. It opens early so you can grab a bite to eat before you head out on your days adventure! It does not have a lot of seating so if you’re going out on the water you need to get there early! As it is close to my hotel, I go there often for breakfast. The food is delicious! We had many different meals over the years. All good. The fruit was fresh cut daily. Egg meals were tasty and cooked well! The Mayan Breakfast is a favorite or you can mix and match to your choice. I’ve never eaten lunch or dinner here so I won’t speak to those meals. I would suggest to all, try out Estel’s! Especially for an early breakfast and watch the sunrise!
Tim P — Google review
“Perfect breakfast spot with island vibes and ocean views.” Had an awesome breakfast here by the water in San Pedro. The fry jacks were fluffy and delicious — easily one of the best I’ve had on the island. The French toast was solid too, with just the right amount of sweetness. Service was super friendly and welcoming. It did take them a little while to circle back to our table, but honestly… it’s island time, no rush when you’ve got a view like that. The ocean breeze, clear water, and relaxed vibe made it the perfect start to the day. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in San Pedro — grab a table by the water and soak it all in.

Lovely by the sea dining with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great breakfast options to savor while sitting under a personal thatched roof with delicious coffee and good attendants. There’s afternoon grilled dishes that are also a great treat.
David G — Google review
First and foremost, it’s hot and this is an open air restaurant. Now, I am going to tell you about this gem. My family had breakfast here at the recommendation of the hotel staff. We absolutely loved the waitstaff. They were very helpful in selecting the food. There is an eclectic island feel to this restaurant. It is located right on the water with covered seating waterside.
Branden M — Google review
On my first day in Ambergris Caye, I woke up pretty early and was looking for a place for breakfast. Estel’s Dine by the Sea, was opening at 6 am. The Mayan Gods had listened to my prayer. I ended up there around 7 am, to be in the midst of a spectacular location. Smack on the beach, excellent seating, with commanding views of the Caribbean Sea and the world’s second largest barrier reef. There was a constant sea breeze, and an intoxicating fragrance of the environment. The restaurant is in downtown San Pedro, still family owned. The beautiful, elegant, charming and eponymous Estel was on hand. It was a pleasure to meet and also have conversation, with both her and her handsome son, who helps run the restaurant. Lovely people. I don’t know about you, but when I travel to any destination, when it is meal time, it has to be local. That is why I came here and that is what I ordered. Estel’s Special Mayan Eggs (Scrambled eggs, grilled onions, tomatoes, peppers, and cilantro served with a choice of meat (for me it was shrimp), beans and Fry Jacks. There are many good things to say about my breakfast plate. Let me start in reverse order. In Belize, everyone desires Fry Jacks, but how Estel’s prepares them are something that you will always remember. A fluffy, soft, fresh and deep fried dough concoction that could have been eaten just on its own, for breakfast. Forget everything else. I must confess, that the texture, flavor and chew of Fry Jacks are very similar, if not identical to the circular Indian Fluffy deep fried bread, called Bhatura. It is also very close in taste to its Indian cousin, the deep fried but smaller circular and puffy bread, called the Poori. While the Jacks are the crown jewel in these settings, the rest of the ingredients on the dish, should not be forgotten because they were superbly prepared. Soft and delicious scrambled eggs and the beans. Really liked the accompaniment of Jam too. And what about the music and the service? All my (and your) favorite oldie tunes played in beautiful harmony. Fantastic. Service was friendly, attentive and exceptional. Thank you, Estel, for your warm hospitality and an unforgettable first morning, in Ambergris Caye.
Peter M — Google review
It was our last day in San Pedro and we wanted to catch the 8am ferry back to MX, it was between 6-7am and nothing was open for breakfast. We ran into a local who said to try Estel's, they were open. We were immediately greeted and sat, they just opened. We sat inside but still had a beautiful view of the ocean. We ordered the Mayan eggs special that come with Fry Jacks. OMG! The eggs were delicious with all kinds of flavors. The Fry Jacks OMG, what are those amazing little breads. So light and fluffy inside, I could not stop eating them. If it hadn't been our last day I would have come back for lunch and dinner. If you visit San Pedro I highly recommend checking this place out.
Dietmar D — Google review
Loved this place so much I came back during a rainstorm just to get more Fry Jacks! The staff was so attentive and sweet. Loved stricking up conversations with them both times. They reminded me to relax and go slow as I was rushing through breakfast worried about leaving for snorkling (totally had more than enough time) . Mike served us both times and was so delighful to talk to. He went above and beyond to serve us and he is part of why we went back twice!

Overall, Jazzy and the team created a memorable atmosphere that I can’t recommend highly enough!

Pupuseria Salvadoreno is a simple yet authentic restaurant that offers a taste of El Salvador. The decor is unassuming, but the food speaks for itself. Visitors rave about the freshly made coconut rice with grilled chicken and the spicy Salvadoran chili sauce that adds an extra kick to the dishes. The menu features traditional dishes like pork pupusas with tomato sauce and pickled cabbage, as well as chicken tostadas and refreshing rum with watermelon juice.
This place is amazing!!! It authentic and the flavor is awesome!! Cheap too! They don’t take credit card so bring cash but these are the best places to go! If you are looking for a home in the wall and local spot, go to this place!!!

Ohhhh myyyyyy ! The best ceviche on the island are five star resort came back twice for the ceviche first time with shrimp second time with lobster not a huge fan of lobster, but the freshness and flavor was unmatched. True hole in the wall. My friend had the stewed chicken and the pork chop was disappointed because she wanted more lol. Local fresh delicious also had three watermelon juice drinks felt fantastic after meal met the owner. Local was very appreciative and full of gratitude for our return.

A small sidewalk cafe that offers delicious food! We stopped in for lunch and I ordered a chicken burrito, (that was killer), and my buddy ordered the pupusas, one each of pork, chicken and shrimp. They came with a tasty dipping sauce. The food here is excellent! I recommend Pupuseria Salvadoreno highly! If you can, stop in for a meal. I will be going back!
Tim P — Google review
I like finding these gems. It has a lot of locals eating here as well as some of the local food tour groups. We went here after seeing the lady making Pupusa's outside on the grill and wanted to try it. All the ones we had were very tasty and at 4 belizian dollars are very affordable.

Pupuseria Salvadoreno is always a favorite when I’m in San Pedro! The pupusas, burrito, and ceviche were amazing, and having the owner there makes the whole place feel so inviting. We really enjoyed chatting with him..he adds such a personal, welcoming touch. The atmosphere is casual and local, and the prices are more than fair for the amazing quality. Highly recommend.. I’ll be back every time I’m in San Pedro!

“Hidden gem in San Pedro — so good I had to come back twice!” If you’re in San Pedro and looking for authentic, delicious, and affordable food, you NEED to stop by Original #1 Pupuseria Salvadoreño. I had their fish meal and it was crazy good for the price — fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. But the real star for me were the pupusas. I tried the cheese and shrimp pupusa and instantly knew I had to come back the next night. The perfect amount of crispy on the outside, cheesy goodness on the inside, and that homemade curtido (pickled slaw) and salsa took it to the next level. Super laid-back, no-frills local vibe with friendly people and food that hits every time. Places like this are what make traveling worth it. Highly recommend — I’ll definitely be back next time I’m on the island!

Belize Chocolate Company

Chocolate shop
Belize Chocolate Company is a charming beachside boutique and cafe that offers a delightful array of artisanal chocolates made from locally grown cocoa. The shop features an assortment of flavors, including chili and sea salt, showcasing the premium quality and rich flavors of Belizean chocolate. Visitors can indulge in dark, milk, and white chocolate drinks and treats while experiencing the chocolate-making process.
Since I had a lite lunch in the neighborhood, it was time to walk to the Belize Chocolate Company. There are many items and drinks that are chocolate. In the back of the small store, there was a small chocolate making class that was in session. I tried two of their truffles with dark chocolate and they were heavenly. Then it was time to do some shopping to bring home. It had to be dark chocolate bars. Buy 3 and get one free. So I went with the #5 (87% Dark) and the Art Bar (70% Dark). The latter highlighting local Belizean artists. So a total of 8 bars to bring home. Both of these bars were exquisite, with a serious depth and range of cocoa taste. Clearly, in a unique chocolate class of its own.
Peter M — Google review
I took a chocolate-making class here and it was so fun! They had already filled out the reservation for the day but we were leaving the following day and really wanted to do this so they fit us in. It was such a fun and unique experience for only $15/pp. We got to learn the entire process and tried the products along the way. Highly recommend if you’re in San Pedro.

A little chocolate oasis in the middle of San Pedro. There are free samples of dark, milk, and white chocolate. They also provided us with other samples as well. They offer a chocolate making class for the adventurous.

Chocolate chip cookies are absolute worth dying for nothing like any chocolate chip cookie you’ve never had! delicious like natural chocolate undertones you have to experience! Also had the tea it was different and refreshing… my friend had a ice cappuccinos that every sip was “light”

Such a cute class! 🫶🏽 Enjoyed every second of it! 5-6 min drive from The Alaia Hotel. Great 1 hour activity to do during the day.

“It was love at first bite!” Killer chocolate! Small little shop with great chocolate goodies! I go to this shop everyday to get some of their brownies. Delicious to say the least! They have a good amount of items that you can purchase at the store or online. They have really chocolaty cheese cakes that are superior to most any others that I can think of eating over the years. They have a good assortment of chocolates to choose from and cookies, too! Coffee drinks and chocolate shakes, also. They have a demonstration on how they made the first hot chocolate drink all those centuries ago! If you have the time, I’d recommend going to the presentation. I love this place. You can order their brownie mix and Hot Chocolate mix online and they will ship it to your doorstep. I highly recommend the chocolate company to everyone! Especially those who love chocolate!
Tim P — Google review
CHOCOLATE CLASS- Small group ~8 people, explained history of Mayan use of cacao using high quality video, tastings of cocao shell, nibs, powder, butter, white/dark/milk chocolate. Lots of explanation and time for questions throughout. Session lasted about an hour which was enough and felt good value for money. COST- 15$, booked online in advance WHO WE'D RECOMMEND FOR- we are a British tourist couple aged 25-30, this activity would be great for any chocolate lovers, any ages and a good activity for families. OVERALL- Good experience, great value for money, enjoyed the tastings and learned a lot TOP TIP- Class is very popular and sells out, book ahead of time

Little chocolate shop. They have small samples of white, milk and dark chocolate for you to try. Also have drinks and desserts but didn't try since had just before. Got a brownie mix for my nieces, a few bars for gifts and a bag of cacao tea. They have some souvenirs like shirts, bags, and postcards to color for kids.

Perfect stay! Allen at the front desk checked me in and did a great job! My ocean view room was perfect!!!! Great location. Restaurants, stores, police, hospital were all in a five min vicinity! I loved their fry jacks but i love secret beach more lol. They let me call home when my phone died on me. That really meant a lot to me that they would allow me to do that. I would stay here over and over again. Safe and friendly

I didn't stay here but the pizza is really good, I ate there another time, pretty sure it was a burger, but the pizza was worth making not of. The Guys behind the bar are the reason I come back, Alfred, Travis and Alison really make you feel welcome. As for the view depending on where you sit and the weather, it's the beautiful beach front location. and if wistfully watching the world go by isn't your thing it's a sports bar, with the big screens but no sound on.

Great ho(s)tel at a great location. We had a private room which was fully equipped. We had a/c as well which was a great benefit. Took a bit long to have warm water in the shower. You can use the kitchen to cook and to fill your bottle. No noise complaints from the other rooms. Perfect! The pool was amazing with a stunning view.

Its great value . It's set up to allow for easy socializing. The kitchen is such a bonus would be nice if they got some sauce pans with lids. It was really full Im not sure the one fridge is enough. I stayed in the original part and loved it. I enjoyed the roof top pool not so much the 3 flights of stairs but keeps you in shape . The staff is so friendly and helpful . It has hostel rooms and private rooms both have been great . The location is very central lots to do in walkable distance .

I stayed 8 nights here and it was amazing. From the rooftop infinity pool, to every staff knowing my name, to the awesome smash burgers, the fantastic waiters and bartenders. And the location is awesome too. This place is the hotspot downtown and close to everything! The locals hang out here at the bar, so you get to see and know more about the island from them. I will be back, if I am fortunate enough to live long enough. Ten stars!!! I miss this place already!

The Sandbar is the 5-star luxury experience of the hostel world. Everything is above average here and the beds are super comfy, you get two pillows, a blackout privacy curtain and there’s AC 24/7. The rooftop swimming pool was the highlight for me and I barely had the need to leave the building. The staff were fantastic. Always smiling, always at your services and going the extra mile to accommodate you. They even arranged access to a separate room from where I could conduct my work meetings in peace. I really appreciated this. One other thing which I’ve not seen anywhere else is the free use of the washing machine and dryer in the communal kitchen which is fantastic. Would definitely come back.
Mel — Google review
Very good hostel, with a good price. The dorms are very big eventhough it has 12 or 14 people, you have a private pod, with electricity and a fan+light. They give you a towel too. Very comfortable bed. The common room is nice with games and a washing/dryer that you can use for free. Reception was really helpful. Location is right on the beach, there is no swimming tho. Luckily there is a pool upstairs. Overall great experience and for a good price.
Joost N — Google review
Really nice private room, great pool. Good WiFi, restaurant is good however there isn’t a discount for guests which is a shame. There’s also a large deposit you have to pay before you go to the room for some reason? Not really sure why, and when they tried to give me the money back they had issues and I didn’t receive the money right away? Just seems unnecessary and strange. Overall a good place to stay but the deposit and difficult surrounding it marred the place for me slightly.

Sandbar Beachfront Restaurant and Bar is a popular spot located in the DFC neighborhood of San Pedro. During the day, visitors can relax under umbrellas and enjoy refreshing drinks, while at night, they can join lively crowds for board or drinking games. The place offers an epic view, but it's the friendly staff that makes it special. Guests often find themselves extending their stay due to the fantastic location, lovely pool, incredible staff/owners, and delicious food at the restaurant.
Highly recommend. My husband and I ate at the sandbar multiple times during our stay in San Pedro. The rice and beans special with stew chicken is fabulous. Jerk chicken and pizza also delicious. Beautiful view of the water from your seat. Pricing very reasonable. We got 20 tacos and a bucket of 6 beers for $30 USD Will return. Offers delivery as well.

The food here was very yummy! We ate here 3 separate times during our stay in San Pedro as our hotel was right next door. My favorite dish was the jalapeno smash burger. That had to have been one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. My boyfriend’s favorite dish was the Italian stromboli. The burgers are very messy so prepare for that. The only negative we experienced here was the service. It takes a very very long time to get your food when you dine in, even if it isn’t busy. Overall I would recommend eating here!

This isn’t your average Hostel! What a gorgeous property with so much more than expected! The pool, the rooftop infinity pool was spectacular! Very comfortable and clean stay. Worst place I visited while in San Pedro! Walking by the Sandbar one evening and they were playing some live music so we decided to check it out and have dinner. The music was fine but the restaurant/bar was a dump. It was old and it was dirty! Went to the bar to get a drink and it took a long time to get the drink. Local types had their very filthy dogs in the bar where we were seated. There were many people at the bar smoking cigarettes and the place was packed with flies! As we were waiting a long time for a waiter to order dinner, the smoke from the cigarettes got so bad, we got up and walked out! I would never recommend this place to anyone! Find another place!

10/10! Ate here 4x times during our week long stay on the island. When a small restaurant has such a large menu, you question the quality. But we ordered a different meal for each visit, and everything was delicious! We even ordered a pepperoni pizza when the island was experiencing an evening power outtage. Pizza was prepared and delivered straight to our hotel suite in a timely manner! It was so delicious!!

Gypsy is this unique little treasure right on the beach, tucked next to the Belize Chocolate Company on Front Street. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the vibe—it’s bohemian, beachy, and bursting with personality. The atmosphere has that effortlessly cool energy that makes you want to linger a little longer. You can tell the chef and owner poured their heart into the menu. Every dish feels thoughtful and creative, with plenty of options you just won’t find anywhere else on the island. It’s a refreshing break from the usual nachos and wings routine—trust me, your taste buds will thank you! If you’re craving something different, with great food, great energy, and ocean views to match, Gypsy is absolutely worth the stop.

The vibe is fantastic—laid-back and welcoming, with a great mix of locals and visitors. The view of the ocean and reef is absolutely stunning! Whether I’m enjoying a delicious meal or sipping on a refreshing cocktail, the experience never disappoints. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, and the staff makes you feel right at home. If you're looking for a place to relax, unwind, and enjoy amazing food and drinks with a breathtaking view, Gypsy is the place to be. Highly recommend!

What a great dinner! Lovely romantic restaurant right on the beach. The Shrimp Aquachile and Tequila Soaked Shrimp Stack were amazing. So much flavor! The Cashew Cruster Grouper was exquisite. The Mayan Chocolate Lava Cake put it over the top. The food was superb, the presentation was excellent and the service was outstanding.

Gypsy is truly a one-of-a-kind experience — effortlessly chill, laid-back, and full of charm. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between casual and intimate, making it ideal whether you’re catching up with friends or enjoying a few cocktails before a night out. The owner and host bring such a warm, personal touch that makes every visit feel special. Everything at Gypsy feels thoughtfully curated, reflecting the owner’s unique personality and creativity. The food is fantastic — my personal favorite is the Macobi Pasta — and Eryn and her team always go above and beyond to make each visit memorable. If you’re looking for great vibes, great food, and genuine hospitality, Gypsy is the place to be!

Truly unique recipes with natural flavors that complement each other. We had a cucumber cashew salad. Who knew a cashew sauce over fresh cucumbers could taste that good. We also had cashew pesto pasta and gold coins..aka panko zucchini rounds with marinara and mozzarella. Such interesting wholesome flavor blends. The cocktails were great too. Not too sweet and just a uniqueness about the flavor blends. Top quality food and fun and gracious host.

Juice Dive is a great place for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike with its variety of dishes. It also has a great selection of juices and smoothies to drink.
Everything can be made vegan which is amazing! The protein options are tofu, seiten, or soy tempeh. For drinks you have oat, soy and almond milk. I tried 2 wraps: 🌯The thai warp - that was recommended to me by the guy who served us, it was super fresh, light, and the peanut sauce was really good, I had it with tofu that was really well made. I super recommend it as well! 🌯The Southwestern wrap - was really good also, I asked to add avocado to it (for extra), and asked to have it a bit warm which I think really upgraded it, and their chipotle sauce was amazing so I asked for extra on the side and I really recommend to do that because it's not very noticeable inside the wrap and it's so good so you won't regret having more of it. All of the sauces are made there and are very good! I had this wrap with tofu as well. The service was super good, the guy was very kind and gave us good recommendations. The location is right in front of the beach and there was good music and a calming atmosphere. Highly recommended!

This place was our second home during our San Pedro stay. In between dives with Scuba School Belize (hands down the best dive operator in San Pedro), we had vegan gyros, Impossible burgers, bulgogi bowls with impossible meatballs, Smoothies, charcoal juices, soy lattes, and much much more vegan goodies, for prices, quality, and portion sizes similar to what you'd expect from a good vegan restaurant in a north american city. Service here is amazing. We forgot to pay for our drinks one day, came back for more food and wanted to pay for it but were told it's no worries and that it was on the house. They also has coconuts on display, and gave one to us for free, opened it for some water, and opened it again for the flesh! I love this place. Come here and come often.

Came here for lunch and had the falafel wrap & two of the Tropical Cooler smoothie with almond milk, they were that delicious!! Really nice to see vegan options on a menu too. Slightly expensive, but overall I’d recommend.

Best little place for healthy food in Belize! They have a vegan nacho cheese that's really good! They make their own chips. Their smoothie bowls are amazing and full of healthy superfoods. They also have lots of fresh juices available. Lots of salad and wrap choices. I got the Thai wrap and it had a delicious spicy peanut dressing. The staff and owner are all really nice.

I have been visiting Belize main land and san pedro for the past 3 weeks and having a healthy breakfast from time to time is a necessity. Juice dive is a cozy place with a coffee shop vibe where you can have fresh and savory juices, good coffee, some avocado toast, breakfast burrito or even some acai bowl. I came to this place twice and tried different dishes and wasn't disappointed. The staff is friendly and take time to help you make your choices. I recommend going there even if the place is pricey but your health is priceless!

Great vegetarian menu with chicken as an option for carnivores ! A lot of restaurants here don’t serve many veggies with the meals, so this is a great place to get lots. We had cauliflower rice stir fry and it was very good. We will be returning before our trip ends.

Great vegan options! The tofu kale scramble is so delicious, I ate it two days in a row. I talked with the owner; he told me they make mostly everything in house, even the tofu. Love this spot. Highly recommend!

Huge list of juices on the menu, but only a limited number were available when we were there. We ended up getting a smoothie instead, which was pretty good. Made to order. Staff was not overly friendly off the bat, but by the end of our interaction it seemed better than it started. Limited seating if you’re eating in. Convenient location in the center of town near the water taxi and the waterfront park.

Guests can enjoy al fresco dining with live performances while indulging in a diverse selection of international cuisine with local twists. The restaurant is known for its spectacular sunset views over the lagoon, making it an ideal spot for a memorable dining experience.
Wry pleasent roof top restaurant and bar. Good wine which is rare in Belize. Nice soft jazz music. View of both Atlantic and Lagoon. Really good food. We like the tacos and the rain salad chicken lettuce wraps were outstanding

Fantastic food, excellent service with a beautiful ambience and view from the upper open terrace! The food presentation is terrific as well. We tried dinner and breakfast, and it seems you can't go wrong.

View and atmosphere is lovely. Wait staff very nice but I think there is a language issue which hasn’t happened before, resulting in a few small mishaps in getting our food and drink. Still - recommended it for its upscale atmosphere.
Susan M — Google review
Food was subpar at best but the service and vibe of the hotel made up for it. Really quiet and vibey - ideal for a chill date night and a stroll in the area afterwards. I thought it was reasonably priced for what it offered.

Rooftop restaurant. Great idea, poorly executed. Hostess didn’t care to be there. Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was better than average, but nothing special. But what really ruined the evening was the total lack of fans. It was far hotter than ground level. There are hundreds of places to mount fans above the tables. Total fans: 0.

Food: Delicious food!! My husband had the creole mahi and mango cheesecake. I had shrimp scampi. My husband does not usually like fish but he ordered it since we are on an island and the creole sauce caught his attention. He CLEANED the plate. And kept raving about it. Service: Our server Lilian was very attentive and such a pleasure to speak with while we attended the restaurant. She adequately checked in with us while we waited for our food and during our meal. Out of all the places we have tried in San Pedro this week she is the best server we have encountered! Atmosphere: The music playing was pleasant. The view from the rooftop over the water is gorgeous! Restaurant very clean.

For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Palapa Bar and Grill, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to La Fonda De Nilo. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Palapa Bar and Grill is a popular spot in San Pedro, Belize, known for its great bar food and as a fun hangout right on the water on a pier. It's recommended to visit for lunch or dinner, but mid-day is ideal to enjoy the tubes in the water and cool off in the tropical weather. The daily happy hour from 4-6 offers great deals, but be cautious with the local vodka.
This is a super cool location with a great vibe! The food and drinks are very tasty, and everything is reasonably priced. The service was good, and everyone was very friendly and attentive! As you walk in, you are greeted by a thatched-roof building with sea birds flying around waiting for their catch of the day. The back side of the pier has outdoor seating, lounge chairs, and even inner tubes in which you can float and have your cocktails!

WHAT'S THERE?- wooden boardwalk out to a thatched roof bar with light up palm trees, large wooden structure bar area with views out to sea, decking area with laid back chairs, steps down into the sea with rubber rings attached to string. They have happy hour and live music. Good atmosphere and relatively busy. Live music was average at best. TOP TIP- go at happy hour - 4BZD for rum and mixer. Not a place for sunset as it's east facing.

Fun, chill bar & grill OVER the water in San Pedro. Servers were super friendly - ask them about the “shot pole”. They encouraged us to write on the tables. There was live music while we were there. And then we went for a swim off their dock and floated on tubes for a while.

I only rated food a 3 because I personally didn't try it. From what I saw from couples to large parties they loved it. The staff was amazing and gave me some great recommendations for things to do around town. Live music was good and the location over the water was the coolest place to hangout on hot days

Restaurant
Briana's Food Place is a popular spot in San Pedro, Belize, known for its authentic and affordable Belizean cuisine. The menu features traditional dishes like cow-foot soup, stew chicken, salbutes, and garnachas. Visitors recommend trying the daily specials such as pigtail or curry chicken with coconut rice and beans, plantains, and slaw. The restaurant is praised for its flavorful food and refreshing drinks like watermelon juice and horchata.
The food didn’t disappoint - if you are looking for local cuisine at a good price. We did family style and tried everything on the menu and didn’t regret it. The lime juice was good, but the horchata was only okay. This is kind of the definition of hole in the wall, so don’t expect much from the location, but we loved the food and service. Glad we went here rather than an Americanized restaurant.

This is the place for traditional Belizean stew chicken with rice & beans. Generous portion, very reasonably priced, and always served hot. Good local food & tasty meats. We tried the T bone which was very tender & juicy & the beef stew. I wished for more sauce with the beef stew. Tasteful & plenty of rice & beans with a bit of pasta salad. Nice small local eatery with reasonable prices/menu & prompt service. Try the Belizean tacos, freshly made.

I tried this place because of the reviews here. The service was good. The food delicious. I had stewed chicken. Red beans and rice. And cabbage with a watermelon drink. I took off a star on atmosphere. No a/c It was hot in there. But I think it’s worth it. Nice helpful staff. Food served hot. I’ll come back for more on my trip.

Had a few dishes. There are about 18 seats in the restaurant. The rice and beans with T-bone steak was excellent. Took a while for the food to come out. The cenas with stewed pork and red bean sauce was really yummy too.

I went here after seeing the reviews and it did not disappoint. I ordered the stew pork with rice and beans. Everything was so flavorful. The pork was fork tender and delicious. The watermelon juice was delightful and refreshing. To top it off, the price was better than just right. Very affordable. I did find out that this is one of the stops on a local food tour, so it may look crowded when you first arrive. Don't let that discourage you. Delicious food awaits!!

El Fogon Restaurant in Belize is a top choice for those seeking authentic local cuisine on a budget. The restaurant offers a calm atmosphere and serves up delicious, traditional Belizean dishes cooked over an open fire. With a rich menu featuring seafood, meats, and stews infused with vibrant local spices, El Fogon showcases the country's culinary traditions.
Wonderful restaurant in Ambergris and most certainly a taste of the Caribbean with a local flare. The food was amazing, when we travel back to the island we will for sure be coming back. The fried lobster looked absolutely amazing, though none of us tried it. We had a large group and got lots of variations of different dishes. The cocktails were great! If you have a large group- make reservations.

Yum yum yummmmm! The citrus lime shrimp with coconut rice was phenomenal and so fresh. Dad had the 4 tacos, 2 shrimp and 2 lobster and he ate it all! Have you ever been to a restaurant so good you forget to take pictures of the food. This is El Fogon. The conch soup - amazing. This is a local gem. You know it’s really good when you go inside and the place is packed with locals on a weeknight. A must on your trip to the island.
Todd M — Google review
If you conduct a search or ask the locals for restaurant recommendations, El Fogon, is one name that often comes up. It is a unique place where everything is cooked on a wood fire and was already on my list. So, on my second day in Ambergris Caye, I headed there for lunch. I had gone diving in the morning, was still exhilarated by the amazing underwater experience, and therefore with a minimal appetite. Just desired a small bite, so that I had a good hunger when it was dinner time. El Fogon is a small restaurant, that is elegantly appointed, with superb music (merengue, when I was there) and a friendly staff. They had exactly what I was looking for, something to give me a taste of the island. From the starter menu, the Belizean Platter (A selection of Belize's Favorite appetizers. 1 piece of each: salbute, empanada, conch fritter, bean dip). Every item was well prepared to highlight distinct flavors, textures and taste. What was my favorite? Hands down the salbute. A wonderful midday dining experience. Service was excellent.
Peter M — Google review
El Fogon is a consistently excellent dining experience! Every dish we have been served has been exemplary. They are our go-to when we catch fish on a tour - bring them the filets and they will prepare them as you wish, with sides. We had family in town last week and visited El Fogon again - Rita was our server and she prompted me to write this review. There are a lot of servers that go through the motions here - not Rita! She had a sincere smile the entire meal, checked on us when drinks were low, and overall, was a breath of fresh air! She was warm and welcoming. When you want an authentic, high-quality Belizean meal and great service, in a "date night" atmosphere (not loud and super-bright dining room), El Fogon is the restaurant to visit!

La Fonda De Nilo is a charming restaurant located just north of the Victoria House entrance. The Argentinean chef prepares delectable South American and Italian dishes, which can be enjoyed in the cozy screened-in area or outdoors. Guests are greeted with a warm smile by the owner and treated to delicious meals cooked in a wood-fired oven right beside their tables. The restaurant offers live music, creating a romantic yet unpretentious atmosphere.
Delicious dinner was just a short walk from our lodging. A romantic atmosphere supported by good lighting, nice music, and, best of all, smokers to keep the mosquitoes away. They have seating for small and large parties. The meal was absolutely delicious. This place is going on my favorite's list.

Upscale, traditional authentic food ambience was peaceful yet elegant, but still authentic to the island weight staff was overly pleasant. Very accommodating excellence suggestions I saw octopus on the menu as a ceviche so I asked if I could have it as a meal they made it to perfect I’m scared of spice, but my friends raved of the jalapeño cream. Other guests at my table had seafood pasta skirt, steak, and shrimp, ravioli or all very pleased with their meals and empanadas are baked to perfection, warm inside filling, tender vegetables and meat. I must try more of an adult ambience.
Catchcandice — Google review
I initially loved La Fonda de Nilo—so much so that my wife and I dined there multiple times and recommended it to others. Unfortunately, a terrible experience changed my view completely. On March 7th, I ate the Picana steak, and within an hour, I became violently ill. I had to be hospitalized, paying $350 USD in medical bills, and I spent the next three days bedridden, unable to eat solid food. My wife and I shared everything except the steak, and she didn’t get sick—confirming that the steak was the issue. When I reached out to the restaurant to warn them, I expected concern and accountability. Instead, the owner deflected blame, implying I must have eaten something else and dismissing a local business owner’s report of another recent case of food poisoning from the same restaurant. He also argued that the waitress wasn’t responsible for warning customers about food safety risks with undercooked meat. After some back and forth, the owner finally agreed to refund my meal. At that point, I responded that, given the circumstances, the entire bill should be refunded—which I don’t think is unreasonable considering what happened. After that, he never responded again and never refunded anything. To see if I was out of line, I asked another San Pedro restaurant owner how they would handle this situation. They told me that fully comping the meal and inviting me back on the house would have been the right thing to do. That’s what true customer service looks like—not deflection, blame-shifting, and silence. This lack of responsibility and disregard for customer well-being is unacceptable. Food poisoning is serious, and the way this restaurant handles complaints raises major red flags. I urge others to be cautious before dining here. What started as a great experience turned into a nightmare, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what I did.
Dimitre D — Google review
All the food we had was very good. The ribeye was a perfect medium and well flavored. The sides were also good. The potatoes were served cool but still had a good flavor. The salad was fresh and the fried arrachera was also delicious. We had a very attentive server and would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting a good steak.

I can’t say enough amazing things about this place. When we’re in San Pedro we come here several times because they food is top notch, drinks are incredible and people are the sweetest. They often will have live music which is a great vibe. They have a cute outdoor restaurant with lights and often have coils burning to ward off bugs!

Out of all of the food during our trip, this little restaurant was by far our favorite. We came in 2 nights in a row and had the surf and turf which was SO good. The 1st night we had the empanadas as an appetizer which were amazing and the 2nd night, we had the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and it was the BEST ceviche I’ve ever had. I really need y’all to open a restaurant in Texas, specifically south Houston towards the coast. :) Will definitely miss this place and hope to visit one day again!

We ate at many restaurants in San Pedro, and La Fonda De Nilo was our favorite. The ceviche was excellent, with fresh seafood and a great balance of ingredients. The pizza was perfectly cooked in their wood-fired oven. You can really tell that the chef cares about the quality of the food he makes.

Restaurant
The Hungry Grouper is a seafood restaurant on San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. It offers creative and healthy seafood dishes at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is informal and the service friendly. The restaurant has outdoor seating and accepts reservations.
During a snorkel tour, we asked the guide where he would recommend going for some fish, to which he immediately responded “Hungry Grouper”. We walked down for lunch and it completely hit the spot! Between our family of 4 we ordered 3 different fish items off the menu and all were so good. Our only regret is not discovering this gem sooner, so we could have returned for multiple meals! (My photos really don’t do the food justice)

Food quality was mediocore at best, the blackened snapper was very salty (even after I asked for lower salt), the shrimp was ok. I went in before 8pm and they were out of potato sides already so I got rice. The portion size is very small, leaving me still hungry which is not norm for me in San Pedro, especially since it's pricey. 55 BZD for the dish. The best item I had was the fresh limeade, that was great. There was a large group which I presume are locals there before I sat down, looked like they got better portion sizes and/or local prices/treatment. To add salt to injury, you'd think they would take credit cards at this price point but it's CASH ONLY. DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Norma's kitchen right beside it has delicious true local food that will fill you up at 1/5 of the price. Don't fall for this tourist trap like me.

Recommended by a local, I ordered the fried grouper and wife the fried snapper. We had choice of sides and sauce mix. Must say the flavor of the fish was great, ate everything on our plates. The inside is small so not good for large groups of people, service was good even short staffed. Only issue I had was portion size left me hungry when we left, had my mind set on a thick large portion of grouper but got a thin small portion.

The food was so good we came back for a second time! This was our first visit to San Pedro. I was looking for places to eat and found this place and we are so happy we did. The service is great. And so are the drinks. The food is absolutely amazing! In fact it was so good that the rest of the visit my husband just kept talking about going back here. Between our family we got to try most of the menu and everything was delicious. And fresh! This will be a regular stop every time we visit the island.

This place was outstanding -- definitely on the top of our dinner list! This place was recommended to us by our fly fishing guide and we couldn't be more happy. The employees were so kind -- San Pedro is a unique place with the best vibes. Love sitting outside in this small restaurant with special items being cooked up. Everything was outstanding including the dessert they surprised us with at the end -- everyone was trying to get the recipe. Guess the secret is-- you have to go back :)

When I first arrived the owner/chef was a little rude and made me feel like I was inconveniencing him with my requests. But by the time I left, he had warmed up and is actually a pretty cool guy. The food was phenomenal. I had jerked chicken and blackened snapper with veggies. The jerk chicken sauce was the best I've ever tasted. I highly recommend checking this place out, you won't regret it.

The food here is amazing. We had the Belizean Jerk Chicken, and Blackened Grouper with Pepper Shrimp. Even the sides were great, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, special rice 😋 The owner is so kind, both serving and cooking for you. This place is very small, so it's a good idea to have a reservation, but not needed. Definitely recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

THIS WAS AMAZING! The owner recommended a selection based on our preferences not the most expensive item on the menu. The lobster pepper was delicious, packed with flavor, and complimented by the local rice. The ambiance was moderate yet cozy. We LOVED IT!! An absolute must to consider when visiting San Pedro

Jamaican restaurant
Located in San Pedro, Robin's Kitchen is a local outdoor spot known for its specialty, jerk chicken. This Caribbean dish features marinated chicken grilled with jerk spices and served with BBQ sauce. In addition to the delicious jerk chicken, the restaurant also offers other dishes including fish. The no-nonsense dining experience allows guests to line up beside the smoking grill for their meal and enjoy homemade sauce from a large mixing bowl.
The kindest hospitality and best jerk chicken in San Pedro! Incredibly grateful for our meal that we shared with Robin and his generosity in time, and story sharing. This is an incredibly memorable and delicious meal that we will cherish forever! Robin, if you ever end up bottling your sauce, be sure to let us know so we can ship it out!

The ox tail and jerk chicken was phenomenal. Seating was what you would expect from a resto on the side of the road, but you don’t go there for ambiance- you go for the food- and that did not disappoint at all.
Candice N — Google review
We stopped here for lunch while exploring San Pedro. Got the jerk chicken which was good but not as spicy as authentic Jamaican jerk chicken see pics. Menu is on the wall with check marks - wanted the oxtail but didn’t have it. This is actually more of a takeout place. There were some flies and little breeze but overall OK.

Overall an amazing experience. It wasn’t supposed to be open when we walked past but we were very lucky to bump into Robin on his way home from church who opened up just for us when he heard it was our last night in Belize. The best and tastiest jerk chicken I’ve ever had and the sauce with it is to die for. Such a friendly guy and an amazing meal. Highly highly recommend!
Aarya B — Google review
Considering this is a $10 meal per dish, it’s a bit difficult for me to rate it higher. The jerk chicken is famous here, as well as throughout Belize. However, if you visit other places in Belize, you may find similar dishes at better prices and with slightly better side dishes. The menu options here are somewhat limited, but the restaurant choices on the island are also limited. So, if you live nearby, it might be worth visiting at least once to try it out.

We absolutely love Robin's Kitchen. The jerk is unbeatable. Breast/wing or Thigh/leg with rice and a side. Great value. While the jerk is amazing, I would add that the curry is delicious too. We usually get the meals to go, but you can eat there. Flavor for miles. Demand is big, so be patient if they are cooking more.

Nice little outdoor place with bbq chicken. The food was good although a little small portion wise for me

Just ate at Robin’s Kitchen and the food was so good and flavorful. Jerk chicken, rice and peas, Cole Slaw and soda for $19 BZ/9.50 USD. Such a good filling meal.

Black & White: Garifuna Restaurant and Bar

Restaurant
Black and White Garifuna Restaurant and Bar offers a unique experience on the island, providing a glimpse into the rich culture and cuisine of Belize's Garifuna people. The menu features traditional dishes such as hudut, tikini, and cassava bread. Owner Julia Martinez, known as Ms. Julia, is a cultural ambassador who shares insights into Garifuna heritage. Additionally, the restaurant can arrange for Garifuna cultural presentations and cooking classes with advance notice.
We came for lunch and we are a vegetarian and wellness focused family of four. The restaurant was practically empty, but undeservedly so. We were very pleasantly surprised by the farm freshness of the food and by the quality of the cooking. It was lovely to be offered such an authentically delicious glimpse into the Garifuna culture so conveniently located on San Pedro. We especially enjoyed being offered a free drumming lesson as we waited for our meal. We've lived on the island for over a year, and this was our first, but definitely not our last visit to this restaurant. It has shot up to one of our top 5 favorite restaurants here for sure. Highly recommend.

Loved the wholesome food. Ordered the Belizean boil-up which was filled with savorily boiled root grains, vegetables and fried fish topped with tomato cilantro sauce. The food came rather quickly, and the staff were coming to check in a few times during an hour. The space was uniquely decorated and had an interesting travel magazine.

Go here! Super authentic local food, fun and laid back ambiance (incense burning!), incredibly kind staff. We brought fish we caught during the day and they cooked it to perfection. The hudut and jerk rice just blew us away.

Great lunch here today. I asked fishing guide where to get the local flavor and this was where they suggested and it was AMAZING. This is a family owned and run restaurant. Julie is the owner / chef and her kids work the front. We brought our catch in and they cooked it all perfectly with a great presentation. Julie came out to see our reaction and was happy that we enjoyed it. Highly recommend this place.

The food was awesome and the atmosphere was electric with local music. We stopped here and ate dinner. This is a new restaurant so there weren’t any other people there. The food was very flavorful and definitely local. I recommend this to anyone that is looking for something uniquely local.

I found this gem & loved it! As a Garifuna by way of Honduras it felt great seeing my people, chatting with, dancing & eating some good food. Loved supporting this local business! You won’t regret it if you do. I had the combo hudut & rum punch! As a Garifuna woman I never really experienced playing the drums & I was taught how to hear. Just go!

0/5 stars if i could *live music asked for money then played as loud as possible. Nobody at my table could hear each other speak. •Fried fish 0/5 •Seafood Hudat soup 2/5 •Chicken curry 2.5/5 •Conc fritters 3/5 best part All in all, nobody was happy with this meal or this experience. Definitely not worth the price. Would not suggest to anyone.
