Spice Route Destination is a sprawling complex offering a variety of experiences. Visitors can indulge in beer and wine tastings, savor bistro dining, and explore artisan crafts. The Jewells Restaurant boasts a spacious verandah with stunning views of farmlands and mountains, providing an ideal setting for farm-to-table feasts featuring high-quality ingredients sourced from the surrounding farmland. Families can enjoy warm service, a children's menu, and ample space for kids to play.
Beautiful destination - you can spend a good couple of hours here, taking in the view, grabbing a bite to eat, gin and beer tasting. If alcohol doesn’t interest you, there is chocolate tasting, tea and coffee tasting, buying spices, teas, ice cream, plants, trinkets, etc. There’s something for everyone. Great spot for photos, appreciating nature, going for a stroll. Toilet facilities are available, it’s kept clean.

A very beautiful place and definitely worth visiting. The experience was fun and diverse. We tried the chocolate tasting and it was a lovely experience with a variety of unique flavors. After that, we visited the tea and spice shop, which was really charming and well-organized, with a great selection of spices and teas. Of course, we didn’t leave without buying some! The destination offers multiple activities and shops in one place, making it perfect for families or a relaxing outing with friends. Highly recommended!

It's a lovely place for everyone, whether you have pets or kids, as there's plenty of space for them to enjoy themselves. With a wide range of shops and activities, we relaxed outdoors, savored our pizza under the warm winter sun while allowing the child to play freely in the playground. We explored several stores and felt that our time spent here was too short, we will definitely come back!

Well worth the drive from Cape Town for a wonderful day out. So much to see and do but I'll try: Wonderful views, al fresco dining, restaurants tastefully decorated with antique furniture. There's a brewery with tastings, a food shop, bakery, pies and lovely smelling spices. A chocolate shop, an ice cream parlour. Children's play area. I'm sure I missed a few things but why not go yourself and explore.

🌶️ Unexpectedly Awesome Blend of Flavors and Views! I originally came here for a work function, but I left with an incredible, custom-made souvenir! The spice blending experience was the absolute highlight—a truly immersive, hands-on activity that connected me to the spirit of the old spice routes. I got to play 'master blender,' creating my very own exotic mix to take home and jazz up my cooking. Paired with those stunning Paarl valley views? It's a fantastic sensory journey. Come for the views, stay for the adventure of crafting your own perfect blend!

Came to Spice route for my wife's birthday for some different tastings, We did the passport tasting (wine tasting, beer tasting, meat tasting, chocolate tasting, gin tasting) and we were told that because it is my wife's birthday her passport was free with some great discounts. Great day out.

Haven't been here for years. It has become very diversified and an interesting place to visit. If you enjoy beer, there is a craft beer tasting... Wine or tea... Tasting rooms. Need an ornament or gift, got it. Beautiful views, fire place and plenty of place for kids to play. It's become a destination and not your gewone wine tasting plekkie. We went to Fairview down the road... So that's also handy.

This place has a beautiful scenic view. The ice cream tasting was heavenly. Friendly staff angels. The Chocolate room has a wide range of chocolates to pick from. The cappuccino was lovely paired with the breakfast wrap.

Fairview Wine and Cheese, situated in Paarl, is a charming vineyard and goat farm that provides an array of delightful experiences. Visitors can indulge in wine and cheese tasting sessions while taking in the picturesque surroundings. The estate features a Mediterranean-style restaurant called Goatshed, where guests can savor delectable dishes. Families will especially enjoy interacting with the friendly goats and exploring the beautiful gardens and lawns.
Tasting was amazing, along with the cheese pairing. Our hostess who is from Paarl was awesome and lovely to converse with. She made the experience even better. The deli is exciting and affordable. Highly recommend this place, and can’t reiterate enough how delicious the cheese is here.

Amazing tasting at Fairview Winery. Grant it was a bit weird drinking wine at 9am in the morning but we had to start somewhere. The wine and cheese flights are so reasonably priced. In Australia it would easily be 5 times the price. Our server was engaging and gave us instructions on how to enjoy the wine along with the matching cheeses. You need to stand at the bar, stools would have been nice. Shame the biltong relish we had with the cheeses was out of stock in the shop as you would have had 5 sales! Was delish. I bought a nice pottery tray with a goat stamp motif and some fudge nougat. Huge selection of cheeses, dips and cured meats.

What another phenomenal wine and cheese experience we just had! This is ny far my favorite winery in the Paarl Region, as everything just comes perfectly together! We once again did the Master wine tasting with one of the best sommelier in the region, Deirdre. She paced the 8 wine and cheese pairing perfectly, by giving our group great insights on each bottle. The wines and cheeses were all delicious, especially the goat cheeses, which is what they're known for. I can't wait to be back again soon, and two thumbs way up to Deirdre!!

While our time here was not long we did have something to eat and a good look around unfortunately we didn't do the tastings. It is set in beautiful surroundings in beautiful buildings nature is everywhere from squirrels to birds to goats 🐐 We stopped at the goats shed and had a few cocktails which were very nice some of the best I had , I think it was called french 75 and a whiskey sour which had the name goat in it but they were very nice. For food we went with the chef's platter which came with 🧀, 🍖 🍞 bread was homemade and cheese was there own of course . Overall it was a lovely experience and I would definitely come back .

Had an excellent Masters Tasting at Fairview. We try to do this every year and it never disappoints. Not only is the wine incredible and unique but the cheese and other food sold in the shop is fantastic. We always stock up on some essentials when stopping here. Highly recommend the master’s tasting which in comparison to other tastings in the area is an amazing deal and experience.
Zoie T — Google review
We had a great time at Fairview. Our hostess was amazing. The great thing is that the premises allow kids to take part and they are offered sparkling juice along with their cheese. One area of improvement though: with many groups at the same time, the main hall becomes noisy and it is difficult to hear the hostess clearly
Yashvin A — Google review
Just a wonderful day out just to sit and take in the views. The cheese sampling was exquisite as was the wine tasting and for me, the prices in the shop we most competitive . Well worth a drive from Cape Town
Ross H — Google review
Tried the cheese and wine pairing here and it was fantastic! Just a heads-up—there’s usually a 1–2 hour wait since they don’t take bookings, and weekends can get really busy. You can wander around the wine farm while you wait for your tasting slot. Don’t miss the little shop. It's full of great products. I may have gone overboard and bought a ton of cheese... no pun intended!

La Grapperia Pizza & Bistro is a German-style restaurant located in Paarl, offering a variety of specialty dishes such as Eisbein, Schnitzels, and German Meatloaf. The bistro provides a wonderful seating area with great views and a nice vibe. Customers can enjoy a range of beers on tap while indulging in delicious pizzas. The restaurant's standout features include its excellent service and friendly staff who create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
e went out for a family day and stopped by this restaurant, and it was a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was amazing—everything was clean and well-maintained. They even had a unique “beach area” with beach sand and cozy couches, perfect for relaxing. We started with some drinks and enjoyed a calm, laid-back afternoon. Eventually, we ordered food, which was absolutely delicious, with generous portion sizes. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a relaxing day paired with great food.

We had a great experience at La Grapperia Pizza & Bistro. The setting is relaxed and inviting, with a charming atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. It’s the kind of place that encourages you to take your time and enjoy the experience. We ordered two pizzas — a chicken pizza and a meaty one — and both were excellent. The chicken pizza had a thin, crispy crust with a generous amount of toppings, including tender chicken and a well-balanced sauce that tied everything together perfectly. The meaty pizza was hearty and packed with flavour, with a rich combination of cured meats and melted cheese that hit all the right notes. The pizzas were clearly made with care, and the quality of the ingredients really stood out. To go with our meal, we had two iced coffees, which were refreshing and well-balanced. They weren’t overly sweet, with just the right amount of coffee strength to complement the meal without overpowering it. Overall, it was a fantastic experience — great food, good coffee, and a relaxed atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Absolutely STUNNING views over the wine farms, beautiful mountain backdrops. On a clear day you can see Table Mountain. Great pizza 🍕, beautiful gardens. It's lovely to sit on the terrace under those beautiful old Oak trees & enjoy the stunning views.

We visited the Spice Route recently and had lunch at La Grapperia. The view is fantastic as you overlook the valley and table mountain in the distant. We had the Collina pizza with Spice Route Chenin Blanc. Both were great. The pizza had tons of flavours. The service was friendly and professional. It’s a great way to relax and take in the surroundings. Will definitely be back.

We were here early on a Monday morning 🌄 so it was not busy at all , we first tried the gin tasting which was decent gins but the negroni was my favourite. After that we moved to the restaurant and sat by the fire and got a nice cappuccino and espresso with a nice pizza 🍕 bases are very thin and toppings were generous. Overall the experience was very good on weekends it can get extremely busy here so on weekends plan ahead and book a table. Definitely a stop by when visiting the spice route.

Farm
The Alpaca Loom Coffee Shop and Weaving Studio, located near Paarl, offers a unique experience to interact with alpacas and other animals such as angora goats, donkeys, sheep, camels, and llamas. Visitors can take part in activities like walking with alpacas on a halter and feeding them. The farm also features a weaving studio where alpaca-wool products are hand-loomed.
A perfect family outing! Get away from the hustle and bustle with the kids and spend time with these amazing, gentle, and cuddly alpacas. You can take a guided tour or simply enjoy feeding them at your own pace. There are also other animals on the property—donkeys, goats, camels, horses, and sheep—making it a real treat for animal lovers of all ages. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, and the venue is wheelchair-friendly too. The menu is Halaal, and we enjoyed a quick snack along with the most decadent red velvet baked cheesecake—absolutely delicious! You can also browse a lovely selection of alpaca-themed goods for sale, including scarves, caps, colouring books, and much more. A highlight was seeing one of the ladies working at the loom, creating beautiful pieces from alpaca wool using age-old traditional methods. It’s like stepping back in time, watching these garments being crafted by hand. Not only is there an opportunity for everyone to get up close to these beautiful animals, but the views are breathtaking too. While enjoying something to eat, you can take in the stunning Table mountain and the vibrant countryside. A truly memorable and enriching visit!

Such a fun place to check out! They’ve got all kinds of animals – alpacas, horses, goats (even baby ones), sheep, chickens, geese, and even a camel. The animals are super chill and friendly, which makes it easy to get close to them. There’s a jungle gym for kids, a coffee shop with snacks and little souvenirs, plus bathrooms, seating, and parking. Super relaxed vibe and definitely worth a visit if you love animals. 🦙☕

Absolutely incredible farm. You can do a full tour and see newborn alpacas , we learnt so much about them as animals, their personalities and the effort and time that goes into caring and creating products from their fur. They also have donkeys, horses, camels, sheep, goats, lamas, chickens and peafowl. Lovely little shop there too with great cappuccinos.

One of the best family experiences we've had in the area! From the moment you arrive at The Alpaca farm, you’re greeted with a fun and heartwarming atmosphere. We bought some feed at the entrance, and within seconds, the alpacas and llamas came rushing overfriendly, curious, and absolutely gorgeous animals! The kids were over the moon, feeding and interacting with them it’s an incredibly engaging and safe experience for little ones. The farm is also home to camels, goats, and horses, making it even more exciting to explore. They also have a lovely shop filled with authentic alpaca wool products blankets, scarves, and more all woven right on the farm. It's totally worth a visit if you're anywhere near . It is great for families, animal lovers, and anyone who just wants to enjoy a peaceful day surrounded by nature and beautiful creatures. Highly recommended! 🦙✨

Such a cool place for kids! The Alpaca loom has it all, nice restaurant, great coffee, and lots of animals to see and feed. We did not stay for all that long but they have lots of animals from Alpaca's (duh), goats, geese, and even camels. The kids loved feeding them and we'll certainly go back :)

Really happy to discover this place while traveling around Stellenbosch. There are not only alpacas but also other animals like goats, sheep, horses, camels, geese, lamas…You can walk around and feed different animals. They also have walking tours and cafe where you can grab drinks, food and even hand-made products.

Literally the best time for me and my little one. The Alpacas are tame and give super chilled vibes. It was a stunning experience

Second time here, came a few years back when my son was quite small, and he didn't really appreciate it as much, however this time the whole family loved it and had a great time we were able to feed almost all the animals from our hands (not allowed to feed the donkeys, camels or horses) and it was very enjoyable. Definitely would recommend for the whole family. There is also a restaurant and shop with souvenirs. Very reasonably priced for entry and animal feed. Will visit again:)

Charming Wine Estate in Paarl that isn't talked about enough. The Goatshed with the goats is definitely the highlight of the estate. We visited the Goatshed restaurant for Lunch and it was absolutely delightful. We had the 3 course menu for restaurant week and all the dishes were delicious. Of course the wine was good as well and complimented the main course. If you find yourself in Paarl and you are looking for a laid back, family friendly restaurant, Fairview is the way to go.

We stopped off here for a quick bite to eat before going to a wedding and I was blown away with the farm to plate approach and how successfully it is being executed. The food was delicious and was not the general anticipated menu options. There was something for everyone on the menu and their wine selection was also brilliant! We loved it so much that we ended up coming back here for breakfast the next morning which was equally as wonderful! When we are in the area again we will most definitely make a habit of making this our go to stop for food!

A lovely restaurant especially on the stoep. Feels nice and homely and relaxed. Staff were wonderful, so welcoming and friendly. Our waiter, Moses was great - genuinely hospitable, professional with personality. We had coffees and a light snack (toasted sandwich). Would recommend it when at Fairview.

Love this restaurant- I’ve been here several times over the years and it remains one of my favourites. It’s located at the Fairview cellar door which is amazing and where there’s also a private tasting room too. Next door to the tasting room is a shop selling a huge array of Fairview cheeses & everything that goes with cheese. The restaurant decor is beautiful and I love the goat theme. There’s a large menu with lots of variety- pizzas, salad, pies, roast. And there’s my favourite, a “make your own cheeseboard” Serves is friendly and fast. Loved the froze (frozen rosè) which is perfectly cooling on a hot summer’s day! Kinda like an adult version of an ice slushy. There are three seating areas- inside, the enclosed terrace, and outside under the vines. Perfect spot for lunch which on the wine route. Highly recommended.

Nestled along the Suid-Agter Paarl road, Vrymansfontein by Vondeling Wines is a charming almond farm that has transformed into a delightful wine-and-dining haven for families and food enthusiasts alike. With breathtaking views as your backdrop, this destination offers an array of outdoor dining options. The serene restaurant, Scape, boasts a sunset-facing terrace where you can indulge in family-style shared plates crafted from seasonal ingredients—perfect for those who appreciate fresh flavors and intimate settings.
We visited Vrymansfontein by Vondeling Wines last Sunday, and it was a great experience. The kids' play area was fantastic, keeping them entertained while we relaxed. Since it was a hot day, having water available made a big difference. They only serve pizza, but it was delicious with a nice thick crust.

The staff at Vrymansfontein went out of their way to accommodate our group of 14 on a day that rained most of the day. I did not know one needed to reserve a wine tasting, and yet management quickly arranged a table for our entire party. Their wine tasting comes with a complimentary board of divine snacks. Our wine tasting experience saw us almost an hour late for our reservation at The Shed, which is a stone's throw from the main building. Again, management took everything in their stride. The Shed (which only offers pizza dishes) has no enclosed room, one sits outside under umbrellas. As I said, it rained most of the day... luckily no wind, and plenty of blankets and umbrellas stacked close together to provide our party with a cozy environment! The Shed literally stayed open for us, as there weren't any other customers and we didn't want to cancel our reservation either and I'm so glad we didn't! Their pizzas are absolutely phenomenal!!! With gluten free bases as a choice. I cannot reiterate more how amazing their staff were! And can't wait to return to enjoy this establishment again and take in the gorgeous views!

I did not visit the restaurant this time but cycled along the most beautiful 30km route through the farm below the Southern Paarl Road. The path goes through almond orchards, vinyards, grasslands, around numerous dams and wetlands. It's ideal for beginners, is well sign posted and you can get back onto the main road if you feel you have had enough after 15km. We saw many birds: an owl, fish eagles and others. If you finish after 12 noon, you can have coffee or lunch at the restaurant. You need a permit to ride this route, it's available online. The start is in the bottom corner of the parking area.

Spent Father’s Day at Vrymansfontein.. The views? Outrageous. The sky threw on its best gradient just for us—pastels, purples, a whole sunset catwalk. The food? Tasty. Fantastic. We treated ourselves with local gin and tonics so good, Crisp, refreshing, and dangerously moreish. Top marks for atmosphere, flavors, and turning a the day into a feast worth remembering. 10/10 would adopt the chef!

We had such a lovely time at Vrymansfontein! Started off with a wine tasting at Vondeling – the wines were fantastic and the setting was beautiful. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Afterward, we headed to The Shed for some pizza, and wow – it was delicious! Such a relaxed, cozy vibe with great food and scenery. Highly recommend for a perfect day out in the Winelands!

5/5 cannot wait to return! Excellent wines, delicious charcuterie board and brilliant service. Okuhle was a gem and if she's your server, you're in for a treat. They have a beautiful outside area and children's play park. It was a rainy day when we visited for a wine tasting, but it was still a lovely experience. I love that you can create your own wine tasting, or select from their curated options. And the prices are good value for money considering the quality you get. Be sure to book, especially during the summer weekends when they can get busy. I can't wait to come back on a sunny day.

I really enjoyed my recent visit to Vrymansfontein. We started our excursion with a wine tasting at the wine tasting area of Vondeling Wines. Upon arriving at our table, we were greeted with a tasting portion of their Chenin Blanc as a welcome drink. Thereafter, we had the opportunity to choose from a selection of wine tasting options. I went for the "INTRODUCTION" tasting, which showcased their more reasonably priced wines. We enjoyed all the wines we tasted, and the complimentary snack platter served during the tasting was a nice touch. After our tasting we headed to The Shed restaurant for a tasty lunch. The menu primarily focuses on pizzas and they have some kid-friendly options available as well. One of the highlights for me was the awesome children's play area, which is conveniently located within view of both the wine tasting area and The Shed restaurant. It's a fantastic space with a wide range of activities, mostly shaded, and even features some water play elements. This allowed parents to relax while keeping an eye on their children. To top it all off, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the views from every corner of the farm are amazing. I loved the entire experience and can highly recommend a visit to Vrymansfontein. I will definitely be back!
