Awsome place. Bought some stuff from the gift shop. It is a cool place in Invercargill with heaps of old trucks, cars, and petrol pumps. Looks nice inside and fun for all ages. It's good for car lovers and even kids with Lego and movie stuff. I liked it – worth a look.
Nesh K — Google review
An impressive collection of transport memorabilia. Entry price reflects the quality and quantity of this collection. You'll certainly need morethan an hour to truly appreciate the vastness or perhaps even a second visit. The gift shop was a little overpriced on some items but still items affordable for most budgets. Ran out of time to visit the diner. Don't forget to check out the themed bathrooms. 😉
MELODY C — Google review
Without a doubt, the best car museum I have ever seen! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with such a warm and genuine welcome — even when purchasing our tickets, the experience felt special. Every single item on display tells a story, taking you on a historical journey like no other. The attention to detail is extraordinary, and the passion behind the collection truly shines through. This isn’t just a museum — it’s an unforgettable experience. Absolutely worth a visit!
Robyn S — Google review
I was not expecting much but this place was super interesting for both myself and my wife. We’re not car fanatics but we genuinely enjoyed the visit and it was a pity we didn’t allow more time. Highly recommended. Interested in VW then you will not be disappointed. Who knew VW had a factory for a while in NZ? Tractors, tick. Minis, tick. Trucks, absolutely. Period correct motoring paraphernalia, tick. Exit via the gift shop.
Jy — Google review
Well worth the look if interested in Transport , but they also have a range of old vintage stuff, records and players, clothing, household goods used back in the day. Happy friendly staff. Can buy tickets for both transport hall and the motorbike museum at a discounted rate for both.
Shell B — Google review
What a display....and the staff is so nice...you have to check out all the themed bathrooms....so cool Eat at the Grill if you have tine...they are wonderful as well...and GREAT service
Mike M — Google review
Fantastic that a family have chosen to continue on with dads good work, amazing inspiring stories and 100s of vehicles and memorabilia on display, very impressive petrol pump/ bowser collection, fun stuff for kids to dress up in "jail" heat for photos, lego room, and the Grille cafe diner is a must

Great stadium..cool facilities..more importantly, it has a cafe!!! Squash and rock climbing too!! It's a shame there is no indoor playground for little kids however there is one outside, but mostly cast in the shadow of the stadium 🙃

A nice and big park to enjoy. You can spend a couple of hours here, including enjoying some tea break at the cafe in the park.

Really nice place. Very big park with different areas such as rose gardens, Japanese garden, winter garden, playgrounds, and a big pond with ducks. It is beautiful and very well maintained. It's very big so you can easily spend a few hours there.

Beautiful place to visit. It was a good day when we went, nice sunny day. Kids' parks are there, and toilets are available for the public. There is a cafe area there, too. Free car parking. Overall, it was a very good experience. You can plan a good picnic day with kids there. Always carry a light jacket just in case of rain or wind.

Throughly enjoyed walking around this place. It caters to all age groups and it's free. It has a cafe, animals, plants, sculptures and many more things to look at. Highly recommend

Without doubt one of the nicest public gardens in NZ. The whole park is pristine, beautifully displayed exhibits... the staff and Invercargill should be very proud. Their efforts have crested a stunning asset for all to enjoy. Pooches on leashes encouraged... just remember yr poop bags Lol.

Awesome aquatic centre in Invercargill. Best to buy a family pass, if going with the family. There is a warm splash/wave pool, swimming lanes, diving boards, spa, sauna and Hydro-slides. There is a cafe on site as well, but it may have different operating hours
William L — Google review
What a great facility this is for invercargill. Came her while on holiday and swam lengths. Plenty of room. Could have been cleaner, hence the 4 stars. Otherwise really good
Chris H — Google review
Whats the point in having a cafe if you don’t have anyone to serve?! Fancy new menus everywhere yet girls in the kitchen wont come out!
Carl V — Google review
Ive been regularly going to the pools for the last 8 years to use the sauna and cold plunge, and i love going down. However over the last 2 years commitment to service has been progressively getting worse and worse, to the point where its getting confusing now. For the longest time ive been able to just show up to the pool, and know everything has been open. But its gotten so unpredictable that ive had to get into the habit of checking the facebook page to see if theres anything shut Ive just checked the facebook page thisafternoon, and seemed to be all clear. Just to show up and be greeted with signs saying the sauna is shut. Its really really frustrating driving in from out of town to use the facilities, just to drive home again immediately after. Especially after checking for this exact reason.
Anthony P — Google review
Really excellent facility with good parking. Friendly, helpful staff. Pool itself could do with a decent clean though.
Elise D — Google review
Great swimming experience. The service was amazing I ordered some chips they took about 2 minutes. 5 Stars
Kobe — Google review
The slide and diving boards are fun. It’s clean, bright, and good family fun! Also good for seeing heavies with tattoos. I thought crime bosses had their own boss-hangouts/evil lairs? We arrived three and a half hours before closing time. We rode the slide for a while and then tried the diving boards(kids and I). With no explanation, and seemingly no reason, the slides and the diving boards were closed for the last two hours. The “supervisor “ would not open them and did not give an explanation, when queried. We were quite disappointed and left early as wading around in highly chlorinated water only offers so much satisfaction. Happily the tough-guys could easily by pass the closed signs on the cold tub, so they had theirs. I don’t know if it’s always like this, as that was our first visit, and probably last. Too bad! It’s a great place with friendly staff and a nice facility! But, Dunedin keeps the slide open all the time and the diving board most of the time. And Gore has a nice pool for laps and chlorine marination.
Matt G — Google review
A multifunctional swimming pool, I love they have everything: sauna, cold pool… But when I arrived they have split the lanes, make it 25m. When it approach close time, they make it back to 50m, anyway I’m glad that I did swimming in 50m lane. And I like their lanes have variety water depth: 1m-3m-5m.

The supermarket features an easy layout with fresh produce, a butchery, and a deli offering an amazing array of value-added produce. Customers can find exciting fresh meat items and high-quality treats at the bakery. The store also provides excellent click and collect service with efficient and friendly staff like Catherine who received praise for her exceptional customer service.
I really love the staff here. I visit almost every day as I work nearby, and the checkout staff are lovely. They do a beautiful takeaway coffee, probably the cheapest cuppa in town! The hot food selection here is great, and there is lots to choose from for lunch.

It's the Kiwi staple place to shop for cheaper groceries, and yes, on the whole that's true, but...I have found, that in shopping around and getting the things on special at all the places you can for each main grocery shop you do, you can pretty much get an even spread of savings. Yes, that's more hassle, and if you just want a one stop shop, then yes, Pak n Save is your place. Staff are very friendly here in Invercargill.
Polarbeard — Google review
You're not welcome to shop there more than once a day. Went in the morning to do my shopping and again in the afternoon to grab a bunch of spring onions. Got a infringement notice in the mail 10 days later stating I was parked there over time limit and coped a $65.00 ticket. Good customer relations Park and slave !!!

Great supermarket, easy layout. Pass through fresh produce and into butchery. Deli has an amazing array of fresh value added produce and other products. Exciting fresh meat items to just take home and cook in your oven. The fresh bakery provides some high quality treats too. Attentive staff willing to help as well.

Cafe
The Grille Café, located in Invercargill, is a popular spot for breakfast and brunch. Attached to Bill Richardson Transport World, this café offers much more than your typical museum eatery. The menu features comforting and flavorful items like corned beef hash with crispy potato, wilted spinach, poached egg, sourdough, and tomato salsa. The café prides itself on using seasonal flavors and local produce to create well-portioned dishes bursting with taste.
This is part of the Transportation museum and the food was very nice. Service was friendly and the overall experience was delightful.

Great big diner at the Transport Museum in Invercargill. I ordered the woffle and fried chicken and a basket of fries with aoili. Fantastic food.

Had the Big Breakfast in the afternoon because I got there late and had not eaten up till then. After that meal I didn't need to eat for another day. Big it was. The restroom was clean and very interesting as well. Went back there to finish looking g around one of the Best Transport Museums in the World.

We stopped by this cafe on our way down to Bluff. Ambience - This is such a cool cafe. The deco and the interior is worth the visit itself. Car themes permeate the place, even as far as the men's toilet, which took the term, "pit stop" to a new level. Food - we ordered a couple of items from the cabinet and the Grille Seafood Chowder. The Salmon Quiche from the cabinet is quite nice but the Seafood Chowder is simply awesome. Add some pepper and a dash of lemon to the seafood chowder and you will not be disappointed. Service - the service was great. Lots of smiles and very prompt service by the staff, especially Kahlee.

Had lunch here on the 30th Sep 2021 with my Aunty and Uncle and husband. What a great experience!!!! Such lovely staff and the atmosphere was relaxed and calm. I had a beef burger and fries for lunch - absolutely delicious and after being sick and not able to eat much this was amazing!! Husband had the lamb sliders with potato skins which he never chooses to eat! - yet he really enjoyed them. My Aunty had a cheese scone and skins. And the other meal was salmon on a potato rosti and an egg. All ridiculously tasty meals and really nice presentation too in the cool bowl/platter type plate!!! Will be back again definitely next time in Invercargill!!! Thankyou

Fun place. Great decor. Good food. Steak was very nice. Roast duck was delicious, but “game sauce” a little sweet/rich. Good service. Dessert was awesome!
Justin V — Google review
As a local google guide I always make sure to share my experiences to Google Local Connect which I am affilated and I always give my honest comments, observations and recommendations to others. This way I can help in answering thier inquries/questions about the place, activities or restaurants/place they're planning to go or do. Last night was our first time to dine in The Grille, Invercargill. We're local of the city but this is the only time we've visited the place. There are few things I will give a review base on my experience. 1. The place (The Grille) It's ambiance is totally will bring you back to the 50s, 60s, 70,s or 80s the decor was amazing and the appliances vintages ones brought me back to my childhood watching the vintage TV😁 i thought that was nice and creative. I even told my wee boy 3 years old that we got old TV like it when I was in his age. He was so amazed😂. The light of the entire restaurant fit to its theme ans decorations. It's cozy and warm there. 2. The Service (staff mainly) First impression last i guess thats why I always remind myself that those people/staff working as frontline/wait person/service crew should always have the BIG smile😁 and Friendly approach not intemidating. The first staff I approach was bot so friendly in her way of talking to me. We arrived 10 mins early on our booking time. When I was so friendly in asking her about our table as I got no idea yet how they do things, like should we just grab a table or look for our table things like these...so I asked her. At first she told me that "you know that our service for this is at 6pm right, I will show your table after I'll finish this" that sounds like I was told off for coming early as she didnt smile at all, to me her facial expression and approach was not friendly. I felt upset but I didnt took it in a wrong way or let her know how i felt instead I turned and told my husband they will start serving at 6pm so we sat at the sofa in front of the fire place for 10 mins while oue boy was enjoying his play time in their play area (which is something recommendable for restaurants like The Grille) i thought this is a brilliant idea having a wee play area for kids so those couples who have kids can enjoy their time together while kids playing upon witing for the food to arrive. Thumbs up for that! Another wait/staff assisted us with our orders when the first staff finally took us to our table. My personal comments in this matter are: First, wait person should ask somebody else to help us out and guide us to our table while she was busy in the bar. She could told us, "Hi welcome to the Grille, Im sorry I cant help you but my company will take you to your table our service will be at 6pm feel free to choose for a drink" in that way we could have felt welcome. Coz honestly it was not a nice welcome after all. Next, wait person should be alert when I say alert enthusiastic, energitic and lively. 3.Food-100 percent recommended no questions with what we order we are very happy. I love that being in keto diet I have the food that I can enjoy to eat in their menu so that was well done!👏 4. Total experience 7/10 I will say I recommend this restaurant to others because there are room for change especially to the wait staff.

I got beef nachos which were almost $30, they had a ring of chips around the edge of a small bowl which was insufficient to mix with salsa.i could not see any mince at all in the mix. I thought they had accidentally given me a vegetarian version.when I asked about it, they told me the mince was chopped up very fine. Upon further inspection, I concluded that the closest a cow came to being involved with my meal was the dairy content of the sour cream or maybe living in a field next to the factory were my 10 corn chips were made. Depressing meal.

The friendly staff is known for their willingness to customize spice levels according to individual preferences. The restaurant's inviting decor complements the fantastic Indian cuisine, making it a top choice for those who appreciate delicious curry, rice, and naan bread.

Takeout order, cold winter night. I ordered Palek Paneer, Lamb Korma and plain naan. Good customer service - the order was ready very quickly and still piping hot when we arrived home. There was a decent serving of rice and both curries were delicious with the med hot spice level absolutely perfect. The chunks of paneer in the palek dish were perfectly cooked and delicious. The naan was freshly baked and great flavour and texture. I feel like the portions were good value for money. Looks like I have a new fave Indian restaurant. I CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK. Bonus*** Nice, clean cozy area with seats and a heater to wait for my order - makes all the difference in cold weather

Came here 3 years ago for a takeaway and the food was lovely. Tonight I returned and had a meal with my son. If there was one time in your life where the meal was perfect, taste was heaven and the service was 10 out of 10.....this was that moment. I have had a fair share of Indian food around the world and this place is the best hands down. I just wish I was greedy enough to eat more.
Simon S — Google review
We ordered via Uber Eats, Mushroom Tikka and it was Raw. I called the restaurant to inform and ask if I can get a replacement or refunded, the girl who picked the call was very rude and passed the phone to manager who was also very disrespectful and argued that the vegetables served are supposed to be raw when it was supposed to be cooked. I wouldn't recommend wasting your money and time on places like these, they ruin reputation of Indian cuisine. Shame on you Bombay Palace Invercargill. Edit; Your reply exactly Displays how bad your customer service is, you cannot even admit an honest review about sub standard food quality. God bless

However, there was an unfortunate incident where the payment receipt displayed an incorrect amount of $18 instead of the actual payment made - $30. This discrepancy can be concerning when purchasing tea for oneself and a flatmate.
Very lovely staff but hard to understand over the intercom ended up having to go in as they had left out a drink, we're so kind to rectify the issue chips we're delicious

Don't usually review fast food restaurants because you don't go to them expecting much other than convenience. But this BK provided the best tasting BK burgers we've had. They also gave us a decent amount of fries. The restaurant was light and open and clean. A good experience all around & the whole family we're happy.
Kerry W — Google review
Throughly useless staff. The kiosk locked up by not accepting payment. The staff didn't care, except when we went to leave. Hardly anyone there could understand what was wrong so they stood there with blank expressions. Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless.

Fast food? I think not!! I'm pretty sure this is the reason I stopped coming here, but husband wanted to. Couldn't even get the meal he wanted as they had no ice cream sundae's. It would be like going to KFC and asking for chicken, & they say we don't do that. Shocking service, 20mins or more of waiting.

Hi I usually dnt do this but feel you guys need to know .I visited Invercargill site today around 2:30 and was very disgusted how dirty the place was. ,I've never seen it looking like this in the past, built up dust/ dirt everywhere, the toilet walls and doors need a waterblast at them. Honestly if my boy wasnt hungry and looking forward to his BK as a treat I would have walked out, if thats the dine In Area I'd hate to think what the cooking area is like.
Lisa M — Google review
Pretty good 99% of the time, they've only forgotten something like three times but if they do forget and you go in and say what you're missing they always either give you your item or your item and a few extras to say sorry so I can easily forgive them for that, the workers are humans as well and sometimes forget things but they always make it up to you so I'm happy

Starving so food was good, it's all pretty much self service so can only judge counter staff..

History Museums
E. Hayes & Sons is a unique store in Invercargill, New Zealand that offers hardware, homeware, giftware, and engineering supplies. What sets this store apart is the E Hayes Motorworks Collection, which showcases an impressive private collection of classic motorcycles, automobiles, and engines. The centerpiece of the collection is the original 'World's Fastest Indian' motorcycle ridden by Burt Munro when he broke the world land speed record. This makes E.
A wonderful store that seems to stock anything and everything hardware related (and a few other things). The staff are very friendly and helpful and even though I didn't need anything, it was great to just browse. But there's more! They have a great collection of Bert Monroe's motorbikes, bike parts, clothes and his offerings to the gods of speed. On top of that, their own collection of cars, motorbikes, and other machines is a sight to behold.
Andy M — Google review
This place is a treasure trove of cool machinery including motorcycles, cars and the Burt Monroe land speed racer. Aside from that the stock and variety the store has is unbelievable. Customer service is second to none and it just way better than your average hardware store. Its a must visit. Cafe coffee and frappe cold drinks were great but there are plenty of dedicated food outlets close by that may be worth a visit. Over all an experience I never expected in a hardware store. A1 👍

I have a confession to make. I came here for the Burt Munro experience without knowing how amazing the store was anyway. I was blown away by the helpful staff, and my visit was well worth the effort to get here. Thanks for making my holiday dream come true.

An excellent precursor to visiting motorcycle mecca, I just loved that a hardware shop with such lovely tools has so varied a selection of nice bikes.we only travelled down this way because of Hayes and the Burt Munro exhibits. What a legend and now I need to look up Hayes riding career. Photos represent a small selection of both the bikes and the vast stock of tools. Pop in you won't regret it.

Called in during a tour to see Bert Munro’s Indian motorcycle WOW this place is amazing so much to see including more motorcycles 😊 Everyone on our tour brought something and, the coffee shop is great the girls doing the coffee were friendly and made excellent coffee if you’re in the area stop in and have a look around

What an awesome plane to visit! So much more than a hardware store. A piece of history, frozen in time. Half museum half helpful hardware. Amazing service. Worth experiencing!

A hardware store with so much more. Well worth the visit to Invercargill. A cafe, an interiors shop, some old machines and the cars and bikes. Just amazing. The Burt Munro tribute section was very interesting.

Invercargill Central

Shopping mall
Invercargill Central, a modern shopping mall that opened its doors in 2022, has quickly become a vibrant hub in the heart of downtown Invercargill. Nestled within the block bordered by Esk, Dee, Tay, and Kelvin Streets, this contemporary space features widened footpaths and an inviting shared area on Esk Street. The first stage of construction has introduced ample undercover parking and showcases high-quality design tailored for retail success.
Stage one has recently opened which included about one quarter of undercover car parking. The mall is certainly well constructed and has an extreme level of quality in this construction. High levels of design that works well for the retail stores thus far that are located there. The rest of the mall construction will be complete prior to the end if this year, all going well that's the developer's intent.

Not a big mall, but it does house a few eateries, including a food centre. The Starbucks here is also the “most southern” outlet according to what is on the shop. Worth a try.

It was alright, definitely not as much variety as one would hope for going to a shopping center..

Had a wonderful experience in store and few weeks ago from a lovely lady (394867) in womenswear. She listened to my needs and helped me find exactly what I needed with a smile. Super friendly and helpful. Excellent customer service, product knowledge and kindness- Farmers should be proud.

Not happy dont recommend getting big items there . Traveled 1hour 15 min.the manager at the time thought I was a threat and had his walk talkie ready. What an amazing display of 320+ motor cylces. Some in as found condition thru to beautifully restored. The Britten display was just great and well worth the stop alone. The Begg racing cars were so cool to see in all their iterations. There’s an informative tribute to famous NZ riders which made good reading.

Value for money! The Lamb shanks were huge and very tasty. The beers are nice, but I asked the server for something not too hoppy, and they couldn't really provide much advice other than to take the tasting paddle, which I did. Beers were hit and miss, one Golden style beer was quite nice, the rest a bit too fruity. Lovely place to sit with mural ceiling and brewing tanks in the back. Would come back, but would love a bit more advice on the brews.

After several days walking in Fiordland National Park, I wanted a beer. A good one! I found it at Gadoochi Brewing (Tuatara Bar & Cafe), a creamy porter. The blue cod fish & chip meal with home-made tartaric sauce was delicious and the bar tender / matre d' was quietly attentive and lovely. Happy hiker here!

Great wee locally owned and run store. Absolutely fantastic hot lunch and dinner food served piping hot and very generous portions at a 'worth it' price. Worth a visit just to check those out alone. Staff are very helpful and parking is pretty good. Very handy central city location to grab something afterwork if need-be.

Great place to stop for a quick few groceries. Ribeye steak while expensive is worth it for a treat. Beautifully marbled, costing about $18 a steak (depending on how thick the cut is), its worthwhile. The fruit and veges are always fresh and bright. The Afghans are totally outrageously delicious. Made in store, 5 to a pkt, crispy deliciousness. If your a Black Pudding fan... then you would know that BLACKBALL blood sausage is without doubt the best. SUPERVALUE is one of the few places you can get it in invercargill. Yum.

The actual rooms and building is in great condition, everything was clean, tidy and comfortable. The kitchen is great. I think it would have been great through the week, but I stayed on a Saturday night and didn’t get to sleep until after 2am, due to cars racing on the street and people partying on the street, so bring earphones if you are there on the weekend! Great value for money though.

Good food, cozy ambiance, and super friendly staff. Lots of seating and the coffee is just perfect. After three years living in Invercargill, it’s my first time trying this café, and I’m glad I did. Went back to try pizza again thinking they had a bad day on my last visit but apparently they are happy to make sub standard pizza. I wonder if the chef even knows why his dough won’t rise? Of maybe he just doesn’t care and buys pre made bases. What a terrible pizza

Go to the Pub if nobody at the reception despite opening time. Stayed one night in private single room which provided towel before heading to Steward Island. Returned from Steward Island , I stayed in 8beds dormitory. This time no towel given and the bed doesn’t have shade to close for privacy. And this time facing the pub owned by the same hostel and road thus pretty noisy with the loud music and from the vehicles. The heater is not strong since it’s a bigger 8 bedder dormitory. Location is excellent given it’s right in front of the Intercity coach pick up and drop off area and also very near to Invercargill Mall and Park n Save, the cheap grocery mall. Suggested to stay in the private single room which has better facing than the dormitory as the latter face the noisy road and loud music from the Pub downstairs. Oh they charge $10 per day for secured lock room of your luggage but I decided to choose the unsecured manner ( ie just left it beside the staircase. However all good as just bring your own toiletries and towel and make sure you charge your phone in the lounge or kitchen as there is only 2 power points in the 8 bedder dorm and one used for the heater !!!

Nice hostel in the heart of the city. I stayed one night in a single room, it was basic but warm and comfortable, decent for the price. Common areas are well-equipped and clean, showers are hot, the staff was really friendly. Only downsides are: - walls are very thin, so you'll hear what happens in the rooms around you, in the corridor and even outside. - parking your car can be tricky as you have to park on the street, but it's free at night Overall, I was pretty satisfied with my stay and would recommend this place for budget travelers.
Raphaël — Google review
I stayed at Tuatara Lodge in Invercargill and had a good overall experience. The room was clean, the service friendly and helpful, and the lodge offered all the basics you need for a short stay. The location is okay, within walking distance of the town centre, cafés and shops. However, parking can be a bit tricky, especially during busier times, as spaces are limited. Nothing fancy, but a solid and reliable place to stay if you're passing through Southland.
Uwe M — Google review
We arrived quite late from a long drive so we had a late check in but the staff was very responsive through emails and very accommodating. Check in for us was easy. However, there was no mentioning of parking. We parked on the parking on the side and realized that is free in the weekend. The bed was very comfortable however our room was right next to the staircase door therefore we can hear people open and close the door all the time. There is only one washroom available in the women toilets/ showers, since we only stay for a very short night, it didn’t bother us very much. The room was clean. Overall, it was a comfortable one short stay for us to get through towns. We didn’t really check out the town center so can’t really comment on that but the hostel is right in the town center.

If you're in the mood for a hearty meal that goes beyond typical takeout, Timaru Roast-Invercargill is an excellent choice. This spot offers a variety of delicious roast options that are not only well-priced but also served quickly. While some dishes may occasionally be on the drier side, a generous helping of gravy can easily remedy that. Many visitors rave about the flavorful roasts, with one traveler even ordering extra to take home!
Stopped in here for a roast. Got the medium roast which I think cost $24, and was more than sufficient. Nice pork with a good piece of crackling. I was the only one in the restaurant, but it was early at 6PM. Plenty of seating and clean and tidy.

Awesome meal and very generous portions. The roast pork was melt in the mouth delicious, vegetables were brilliant, crackle could've been grilled a little longer but was very nice. I got a large thinking I was starving and I couldn't eat it all, so next time I'll get a medium

Service was amazing, no doubt about it. However, food was taking quite long even when it was not so busy. We had the top photo a while ago, and we came in today ordered the same dish, but got exactly the different thing (bottom photo). Such a disappointment, fish was not crispy at all, sauce didn’t taste the same.

Good value for the lunch buffet. Popular items that were replaced frequently were yum; the fried things that were left out a bit long had lost their cripness. Staff was welcoming.

well, after check the comments here, we decided to try it, as my kids were keen on the ice cream! The food was ok, above our expectations. There were not many choices but it is fine considering in Invercargill. Location is great and the restaurant is clean. We had good time but was disappointed at the end: we were told $23 for buffet, and $20 for my yr 11 and $12 for the yr 7, however we were charged $29 for one adult when checking out. As we mentioned the offer, the reception refunded. This was not a pleasant experience. If you decide to go for the buffet, double confirm the price before sitting down. PS the ingredients are not fresh, be careful!

Located in Invercargill City, New Zealand, Zookeepers Cafe is a family-friendly zoo-themed eatery that offers a unique dining experience. The cafe features an eclectic decor with various animal-themed decorations adorning the walls and ceilings. Visitors can enjoy a variety of Mexican dishes such as jalapeno poppers and nachos, along with delectable treats like cheesecake. The cafe is known for its excellent coffee and friendly service, making it a popular spot among locals and tourists alike.
Zookeepers Cafe defies easy description for a non Kiwi like me. A leopard riding a bicycle hangs from the ceiling as you enter, as does an empty birdcage. A wooden Polynesian sculpture guards the door inside, while a giant animal of some kind guards the outside. Fish and neon signs and colorful wild animal art and abstract paintings adorn the walls. I had their excellent French toast with bacon and a mochaccino for breakfast. Regulars shuffled in to warm greetings from the proprietor. The atmosphere was trippy but pleasant and the WiFi was free and I wanted to stay a while longer so I ordered a boysenberry juice so as not to feel guilty.

It's a nice and warm place, staff are very friendly. But for the food, it's a little bit disappointed. The seafood chowder was too creamy, I remembered it was very nice but now I am not really like it. The fried noodle was too dark and salty, taste was not good, I don't think it should on the menu if you can't cook it well. The price is a little bit too high for me, almost $20 per person. Others are all fine.

At last despite massive crowds at the Burt Munro challenge a cafe that stays open beyond 5pm. Great to sit at any of the three different areas. The outside street tables. Inside cafe seating or the upstairs area. Lovely coffee, beers or spirits. Plus lots of different foods. Its the service which makes the Zoo great. Little touches like a cafe with Number 35 on it (Burt's racing number for his world's fastest Indian)

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Civic Theatre. Not quite as popular as Bill Richardson Transport World, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

The Civic Theatre, a significant historical building in Southland, showcases Edwardian Baroque style and was originally built as municipal offices in 1906. After a $15.8 million upgrade, it has been transformed into a stunning performing arts and events center. Visitors can admire its Gothic-style architecture while taking in live shows or simply exploring the beautiful interior. The theater staff are known for their warmth and hospitality, making visitors feel welcome as they enjoy the performances.
We wandered in randomly early on a weekday morning while passing through Invercargill and we were welcomed and even taken through to have a look inside the theatre itself, much to the delight of my son and I. It is beautiful, the lady we interacted with on site was wonderful and accommodating of a couple of tourists who blew in off the street haha. We loved it
Melissa A — Google review
A beautifully maintained city hall/theatre which had a major refit back stage some years ago which allows incredible touring shows to have confidence in that their needs are met for the many production companies that book this pearl of a venue knowing it offers the best in Australasia and our local productions are far better for having such an amazing staging set. The architecture itself is stunning for NZ as a country, considered incredibly young given it's only been inhabited less than 400 years. Floodlights at night highlight another dimension which is well worth seeing.

The Seriously Good Chocolate Company in New Zealand has made a name for itself by promoting the country through its delectable chocolates. From being enjoyed by notable figures like Prince Harry and John Key to being stocked in hundreds of outlets worldwide, the company has come a long way since its humble beginnings 14 years ago. Visitors can indulge in artisan chocolates at their cafe and even take a behind-the-scenes tour of the factory, best experienced in the morning.
We went here for lunch, they have delicious savory food as well as some yum sweet treats.

I can’t beleive I just lucked upon this incredible chocolate shop and cafe. You can watch them make chocolates out the back. Their chocolates rival anything made in Tassie. I visited the shop daily for a week and have sampled nearly everything from mint choccies to Rocky Road. They also make chicks for special occasions like the Burt Munro Challenge. Then there is the staff. How friendly and helpful are they, Heather in particular is a total gem. The quality of their product and level of service is Seriously Good.

Great chocolate, but so busy we're all crammed in there. Very small premises. Get in quick. Great gift ideas too.

You would expect to find chocolate cake at a chocolate factory, but no, they didn't have any. Their brownie had a layer of cheesecake in it...what a bummer. Was not wowed by anything in their cabinet and there wasn't really much on offer so we left very disappointed.

The southern most chocolate company. Heaps of chocolate collections to choose from. A great place to buy souvenirs for friends and family! The staffs are so lovely and helpful, and made us feel very welcomed:) Tried the Chocolate Spoon, delicious!

I have a bit of a sweet tooth so maybe I’m a little biased, but I do think this was excellent. I got both a little chocolate they had made with a strawberry filling and their lotte cookie cheesecake. Both were delicious. The only reason I didn’t finish the cheesecake is because I’m trying to limit my sugar intake, but I will say I had a really tough time putting the fork down. Before I knew it half the cheesecake was gone!

Great hot chocolate with marshmallow. I just walked by looking for food in the late afternoon. When I came by this place. It came with a chocolate spoon and a generous proportion of marshmallows. A good afternoon treat! Sadly, they don't serve any savoury dishes, but why do I see people posting cheese rolls and sorts?

Great way to spend an hour or so in Invercargill. The team are very welcoming and explained everything clearly. The escape room was awesome and helpful clues given as needed to progress. Quite challenging and you have to think differently to solve the puzzles. Absolutely wonderful time. Heaps of board games available in the shop too.

Great and brain teasing escape room, amazing selection of board games and awesome and knowledgeable owner, who made the experience just perfect. Definitely recommend!

I ordered the lawn game 'Mölkky' online. The game itself is, of course, 5/5! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for an easy but fun lawn game. But I'd give Solve it and Escape 5/5 as well! Once I decided to order the game, I looked around online. I wanted to make sure I got the 'original' game and not a knock-off, and Solve it had one of the best prices. And once i realised they were a small business, and close by (i.e., on the south island) it was an easy decision. Product was shipped and delivered super fast. Will definitely check them out for any future game purchases!

My husband and I visited and tried the Inheritance room on a recent holiday to Southland. The puzzles we had to solve were really clever and it was such an endorphin rush to get something right. We had to exceed the one-hour time target, so we were really glad to get to finish anyway and get there in the end with a friendly nudge or two. Might have been faster/easier with more than just the two of us! A lovely family business and they also offer an incredible selection of board games!

Nice big statue in Queens Park, Invercargill. Shows Burt on his fast bike. Good place to take photos and go for a walk. Free to see. Cool for locals and visitors.

The sculpture is a tribute to Burt Munro. This beautiful bronze statue features Burt Munro riding a 1920 Indian motorcycle. The statue is 4.5 meters tall and black in color. Right beside the statue, there is information about Burt Munro engraved on the stone. You can also visit the local department store E Hayes & Sons which is closeby and now home to Burt's World's Fastest Indian. They get up to 10,000 visitors a year just coming to the store to see the Indian on display. The Invercargill Water Tower, a striking red-brick structure dating back to 1889, stands at an impressive height of 31.5 meters. This iconic landmark is a prime example of Victorian architecture and serves as a testament to the city's colonial heritage. Situated near the enchanting coastal area of Invercargill, it offers visitors a glimpse into the city's history and engineering prowess.

Iconic piece of Invercargill history. I remember the pride my uncles had scaffolding it when I was young. Have been lucky to be around long enough to remember walking up all those steps spiraling to the top.
Belinda P — Google review
Invercargill is built on almost entirely flat land. A major landmark in Invercargill, is the Water Tower which was built in 1889. It was built to support the city’s first high-pressure water supply tank. It was designed by consulting engineer William Sharp, and built by Matthew and Hugh Mair. Water towers are located on high ground to provide enough pressure to send water into a municipal water supply with enough force to supply all the customers in the  immediate vicinity. It comprises 300,000 bricks and is 42.6 metres high landmark . New Zealand suffered many great fires. In the late 1880s the Invercargill Borough Council decided to build a water tower on part of the green belt. Ratepayers wanted the tower but not an eye-sore on the town belt, architect-engineer William Sharp suggested blunting criticism by disguising the 300,000-litre steel tank with an elaborate brick tower. Earthquakes don't kill but buildings do. The building has been declared a 'earthquake-prone' hazard which constitutes a major risk to public safety and infrastructure. It includes a threat to the continuous operation of the city's main pump station. Both the Water Tower and the control building are category one historic buildings, and at the moment have a rating of 25 percent of the national building standard. The council basically don't want to pay to fix it because it will cost ($) millions to strengthen it. It is ready to fall down in the next big magnitude earthquake. In the last 12 million years the Southern Alps have been uplifted by an amazing 20 kilometres! The Alpine Fault has ruptured four times in the past 900 years.

Dig This Invercargill offers an exhilarating experience where visitors can take control of heavy machinery like excavators, bulldozers, and skid steers. The activities include digging pits, building mounds, playing bucket basketball, stacking 910kg (2,000lbs) tires, and causing a bit of controlled havoc. The sessions last for 60 minutes and are suitable for all ages.
I did the Big Dig and the Aggression Session, its one of the most exciting things I have done in years. I enjoyed the Big Dig the most, you get to do a number of different things and learn the controls. Highly recommend it, I had so much fun, and the instructor was great.

Very helpful instructors. This is must do activity in Invercargill, New Zealand. It may cost you a bit but you will remember it forever. 1 hour of exciting digging, driving your choice of equipment. Smashing fun. Must do.

This place is a must do if you love playing with toys. There's nowhere else you can play with a full size excavator or bulldozer under expert tuition with zero experience. This place is cool. I did the bulldozer which was awesome. Apparently only 1 in 10 do the bulldozer over the digger but the dozer takes constant thought and you can't pause unlike a digger! Just do it!!

Global Byte Cafe, located at 150 Dee Street in Invercargill, New Zealand, is a popular spot known for its delicious coffee and cake combos. The cafe has recently undergone a transformation under new ownership and has garnered attention for its scrumptious cheese scones and next-level coffee. With a fresh new look and laid-back atmosphere, the cafe offers a great variety of food options both sweet and savory.
From the moment we stood at the food cabinet trying to decide on what to have we were greeted with smiles and friendly hellos from the staff, a good way to start your experience in a cafe. It was not super busy, which for me was great as you could have a conversation and actually hear what people were saying. The food in the cabinet looked very appetizing, but we ordered off the menu, eggs benedict, seafood chowder, coffee, and a slice from the cabinet. The eggs were cooked just right, runny yolk and set white, tasty hollandaise and the english muffin was soft and easy to eat, the seafood chowder was tasty, creamy and good chucks of seafood in it and a big bowl, we'll worth the money for this. The coffee was perfect in both temperature and flavor and the slice well it was sweet and delicious just to cap off a great lunch. Thanks for making the visit to your cafe an enjoyable one.

What an incredible find! My husband and I weren't sure where to eat but after a walk around a few streets we discovered Global Bite. We saw lots of people eating so that was a great sign. We were served by a school boy who was absolutely delightful. He was friendly, professional and made us feel very welcome. The fries were fantastic and very generous, and our bagels super tasty. So many hidden flavours! My husband loved his coffee. He loves a flat white with hazelnut and this beautiful cafe served the perfect ratio of coffee and hazelnut. My English breakfast tea was great, and I was very pleased to have sweetener. I need this. The service was so genuine, professional and welcoming, and the cafe gets everything right. We wish we had this place in Christchurch, as we'd be regulars! Thank you so much for such a great experience. I think the owner must be the blonde lady? Absolutely amazing. Such a genuine person. Thank you.

Spacious, large selection of sweet and savory baked goods. I loved the moist Belgian waffles drizzled with maple syrup, yogurt and berry compote. Mocha was excellent (though I’ve yet to find a place in New Zealand during my visit that doesn’t serve excellent coffee.)

We went here for lunch on Sunday.. We found that the food was very average.. The end of the sausage roll was hard and dry, the toast sandwich was sprinkled with an unusual sauce, and there was too much seasoning in the bread filling. So it Took over the taste.

Japanese restaurant
I dined at Koji Japanese Restaurant for my husband's birthday and it was an excellent choice! They kindly accommodated us without reservations. My husband enjoyed the yakiudon with chicken, describing it as "really good!" Despite not being hungry initially, he devoured the noodles and found them delicious. I opted for the sushi & curry udon set, which was indulgent yet not heavy. The curry udon had a rich flavor without being overly salty.
Our dinner was absolutely amazing! The quality of the salmon and meats was outstanding—so fresh and perfectly cooked. Every dish was packed with flavor, making it one of the best dining experiences we've had. On top of that, the prices were very reasonable for the high quality of food. Hands down, the best restaurant we’ve been to! Highly recommend.

Cheese rolls for the table, 2 mouse traps to keep the kids happy and fabulously flavour filled smashed avocado on toast (not pictured due to how quickly it was ganneted down. Although we’re only passing through invercagill today, this place will be a pou in our stories when we return home. Thanks Main Street Cafe & Restaurant xx

This place always has amazing service! I want to say that yesterday on the 25/10/25 around 3pm me and my family came in and got served by a guy that was training and another girl with short hair. They were both the sweetest humans! They were so kind with my special needs cousin and just had the best customer service! This place never disappoints!

The Batch Cafe, located in Invercargill, New Zealand, has gained a strong reputation for its quality breakfast offerings. It has been recognized as the Hospitality NZ Cafe of the year multiple times and won the Hospitality NZ Supreme overall winner award in 2013. The cafe is known for its awesome breakfast and brunch options, making it one of the best places to enjoy a meal any time of day.
At first, we were supposed to wait to dine in at their place. We asked the female staff how it worked? She explained to us and reserved a table for us. That was very impressive. I got chicken filo with a small salad and coconut passion fruit cake which they serve with dill flowers on top. Not only the service that we got was superb, but also the food is delicious.

One day, I asked the young male waiter for recommendations and placed my order. I forget the name of the dish, but this sandwich was very tasty, with a good balance of sour, spicy (possibly seasoned cabbage) and beef flavours. I happened to be in Invercargill on a business trip and would like to go back. And I want to order the same.
Tatsuya O — Google review
We ordered eggs Benedict, coffee, and a chocolate cake! The food was tasty, but the menu didn’t have many options. The wait time was around 20–25 minutes since the place was really busy on Sunday. There were tables available for groups, but not for two people right away, so we had to wait!

It’s a great spot, probably the best/most popular cafe in this town. The Blue Cod Butty is my go-to every time I have to come to this wonderful part of the world, I can’t say enough good about it, I’ve tried to replicate it at home but can’t seem to quite get it right. My only comment would be the coffee is a bit slow coming out, but they are trying to make coffee for 1/2 of Invercargill at 8:30am so it’s understandable. Keep up the good mahi team.
Nick H — Google review
I was in 2 minds about writing this review because sometimes people get it wrong. But I leaned towards giving the review. One of our meals was great. The other, average would be generous. The “blue cod buttie” a pan fried fillet of Blue Cod, was neither pan fried, nor was is Blue Cod. Now don’t get me wrong, I like a good piece of Gurnard, which is what I was served, except it wasn’t good. At one point it had been battered and deep fried, but before it got to my plate it appeared to have been microwaved and the batter was soggy, the fish was dry and hotter than the sun itself. The salad and dressing were good, but it was hiding the paper thin, burnt toast underneath. Very disappointing for a place we have enjoyed in the past. We won’t be going back. Do better. Don’t lie about the meal you are serving. If you run out of something, let the customer know when they are ordering. And if you are replacing a part of the dish, cook it properly.

Although this cafe was obviously popular, our group were able to find a big table. The coffee was excellent, the cabinet food was good and there was a good range to choose from. The service couldn't be faulted. The space is modern and the toilets were impeccably clean. We would definitely return if we are ever in Invercargill again.

It's a testament to creativity and resourcefulness, showcasing what can be crafted from discarded items. The site offers a memorable experience with its quirky collection of artefacts and memorabilia. An amazing work of art created out of stuff collcted from demolished buildings and personal belongings. Pretty spooky at some structure. I loved the as the art in it. Must be a kingdom of rats by the way although haven't seen any🫣.

This place is interesting and does have an extensive collection, but can be a little creepy with the dolls and rundown antique stuff. Nonetheless, we do recommend taking a look if you have the time. Plenty of duck, goose, chicken, peacock, etc. The host was very friendly and guided us as to where to go, including her very friendly dogs. We have had a nice chat with her. It was a difficult place to upkeep, thus do drop a donation at the end of your visit since there wasn’t no admission fees to this place.

A completely unique experience. Part pioneer village, a dash of salvaged local history, and a continual voyage of discovery. Every nook and cranny is crammed full of interesting goodies. Allow an hour, go with an open mind, and make some time to chat with the owner.

My wife, 10-month-old, and I today visited Demolition World not knowing much about it. We had a great time exploring the different nooks and crannies of the displays. Most of it was pram friendly and the chickens, even more friendly. Worth a stop if you are in town.

This should honestly be the top attraction in Invercargill. Had such a great time wandering around and seeing the little village and all the chickens.

Well this has been for sure one of the strangest experiences while travelling a new zeland for both me and my girlfriend. Lets start with the entrance. The place is easy to find and you will just about 100 metres on a gravel road before reaching the venue. We were greeted by couple of ducks and chicks driving through the “town” to get to second carpark as in the primary one there is a space for about 6 cars. The venue itself. Well lets just say its… bizzar at least. ITs a mixture of old and forgottwn stuff such as tools, toys, manequines (which make the whole experience VERY creepy) and nature. There is a LOT to see. We spent here about 2 hours going thoroughly through the whole “village”. There are sheds, remmnants of the days past, there is a car, there is a canon… whatever you can think of really and running amongst it, hundreds of ducks, chickens and geese. What an experience it is. There is also shop, so some of the stuff is for sale. It took the owner to build it as it is for nearly 2 decades. So mixed feelings. Especially on a cloudy day is kinda scary experience. But one I wont forget.
Lukáš Z — Google review
Very large set up. A lot of time and thought has clearly gone in to each and every section. It takes you ages to walk around everywhere which is good! Huge area at the end where you can look at all the windows doors and fittings they have available to purchase from demolition Jobs. My partner and I liked the zen hutt the most as it was minimal and peaceful. The water wheels were also a highlight as was the birdlife that you walk through during your time looking and exploring. Well worth the stop.

Gerard M — Google review
It's okay. There is a walk around the estuary & lake. There are many sea birds there. We caught a 3-4ft eel there. We were told not to eat anything from the lake, only the sea side of he bluff. The actual wharf at the city end, where the sea scout hut is derelict & is falling apart . It's fenced off. We fished this end at high tide from a cement boat slip.

Great old wharf with a lot of history attached to it. Interesting to read the about the old sailing ships that unloaded and reloaded. Replica of and old wooden railway that served the area as well. Estuary walk has some more interesting sites.

Invercargills memorial to our fallen in conflicts overseas. A special plaque to Sgt Richard Travis VC who was a Southland Company soldier in the Great War who preformed some absolutely heroic acts before being killed in northern France. Look up his story. Behind the monument are two other statues, Lord Jellico and Kitchener of Khartoum. Look them up also when you have a chance. Great place and the kids loved it. It's a shame that we didn't get to see Henry as we came in not long after it opened and it was too cold for him to come out of cover. If you wish to see Henry and his friends in winter, it's best to come in around lunch time or later.

I love my local Museum. The temporary exhibitions are always well worth dropping by to check out. Make some time in your lunch hour or on the way home. I especially love some of the quirkier displays. All is not perfect though. The building, is now out of time and out of place. Time to rip of the roof and build a structure that wont be limited in space by the terrible pyramid design. Get some of those items out of storage and up on display where they are meant to be. The building design was very cutting edge and impressive when first built but it has not aged well. Minerva is very lucky to have her back to the museum. Imagine how stunning she would look in front of a tall graceful building that blended with the magnificent Queens Park. The staff are great and the museum is a great place to take your children. We are very lucky to have such free easy access to the Tuatara and these displays.

Gorgeous little scenic walking track in the heart of the city. Well maintained with lots of beautiful areas, large historic trees, a creek running through and a few bridges thrown in for good measure. Was here for stag day and the place was packed but the amount of people just pissing all around the ground with kids and wives near them was disgusting. The Lone Star restaurant offers a diverse menu to satisfy both large and small appetites, featuring famous spare ribs and the enticing Lasso of Hog. The food is delicious, with generous portions that uphold the establishment's excellent reputation. The waitress, Shane, provided exceptional service by being attentive and patient throughout the dining experience. She even went the extra mile by singing a happy birthday song for a customer's mother and placing a candle in her ice cream instead of a cake.
First time in 12 years I have been to the Lone Star and we will be back. The chicken was moist and flavourful. My husband had prawns and stated they were the best he has had since moving to invercargill. Staff were great, friendly, service quick and all were smiling.

Our Whānau of 6 had a wonderful meal. Ordered online and everything was ready to devour on our arrival, cooked to perfection. The Cadillac platter had a great variety and our daughters loved their dishes. Generous portions and the JD dessert was delicious! Thank you Lone Star Team for making it extra special putting a candle on Hubby's dessert for his birthday. It was all executed better than I requested and your service from start to finish was warming, welcoming and professional. See you all for our next birthday celebration 😊

Outstanding Service and Hospitality! The staff were absolutely incredible tonight! warm, welcoming, and genuinely accommodating. King's Fish Market is a popular seafood destination, particularly known for its deliciously battered Bluff Oysters. The staff is friendly and helpful, providing excellent service. The chips are perfectly done with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior, cooked in clean oil. This family-owned business has a rich history of sourcing fresh produce from the Southland coastlines.
Lets just say i was excited going in and super excited coming out. Small place but so much treasure. They have whole fish as well as fillets. Cooked items like ur fish and chips, surimi salad, tubbed seafood chowder, etc. Frozen items like the crumbed scallops and oysters? Wow.

Don't pre-order or it'll be cold because its been prepared far to early. It's fine if you order and wait for it so you get it ASAP. I'm not certain but I suspect they mix old and new fish. I've noticed in the last year that you seem to get 50-50 good fish to weird tasting fish. It's happened enough times I'm sure somethings different. I'm just not sure what it is specifically.
James C — Google review
Made a mistake of going in during the afternoon instead of my usual time in the evening, and had a really unpleasant experience. I politely asked for a meal box for my fish and chips, but the girl at the counter rudely said no and told me to go to another shop. The evening staff are always so respectful, im a regular, and they even remember my order. Love their food but have to avoid going there at least in afternoon to just avoid her.

Went for the 3rd time to buy salmon pieces. I request each piece to be sliced in half and had no problems the first 2 times (on a weekend). Today 0930hrs on Friday 22/8/25 was told by the (?regular weekday staff) we sell “as is”. No other customers in the store. Would have taken them less than 1 min to make 2 slices with a knife. Makes fridge storage easy for me and I don’t have to handle again until eating time.I said “thats ok” and walked out. If this is the poor service you get for a very basic request …..then I don’t trust the care applied to the quality of fish in the background. The small details in background are questionable when at the front you essentially don’t care. Never again…would have carried on as a weekly customer.

Albatross Fish Supply is a popular spot in Invercargill City Centre, New Zealand. The establishment offers an array of fried dishes such as fish and chips and Chinese food at affordable prices. Customers appreciate the generous portions and quick service, making it a recommended choice for those looking for a satisfying meal.
Fish and chips, Chinese dish, good taste and best price, cheapest compare to other similar store. The chips is crispy, yum and so cheap with lots of quantity for $2. Clean area, easy car park, I recommended.

Our experience was real dodgy. They have been our go to for years. But tonight was different, we ordered $10 chips as large family. The lady brought out $6 partner said we got $10. They the. Came back with exactly the same size just wrapped with a different paper. When unwrapping we seen the $6 paper still there. After god knows how long thought they’d look after there customers. Unfortunately this will be our last time there disgusted they screw customers over. chips were yum tho

We were looking forward to having a meal of fish and chips from this Shop but were very disappointed, my piece of Cod was so thin and batter over cooked and the chips were awful, dry and cold, not worth the money. Was local for years. Unfortunately I got the completely wrong order last night and it wasn’t very nice either. The older owner use to check what items you bought during taking payment and unfortunately the new guy doesn’t. Maybe that would have avoided me getting the wrong order and probably someone else too. The chips were soggy and had no salt, and the fish has more batter than fish. Considering I didn’t order those items.

The Indian restaurant at The Crescent offers an incredible dining experience with its delectable cuisine. The chicken vindaloo, known for its intense spiciness, certainly met expectations and had a remarkable taste. The portion size was generous and reasonably priced. Unlike other establishments where 'Indian Hot' curries were often disappointing, this restaurant surpassed all previous experiences.
A fine cozy place to eat with delicious food, excellent service, and reasonable prices. My family loved it, and we even ordered the same dishes again a few days later. The chili chicken was amazing. I got it very hot (12/10 spice level), and it was perfect ❤️ The Chicken 65 was also really good. Try the keema naan too, its like Murtabak

We had a fantastic meal, so tasty and the staff were very friendly. Very relaxing environment, prompt serive for drinks and a big jug of water, food did not take long to be served either. I will certainly be dining here again.

Never had a bad feed here. This is oir local Indian Restaurant, service is always friendly, atmosphere is certainly not traditional Indian which isnt a bad thing, some Indian restaurants have loud Indian music, nothing against that but these guys have a more relaxed atmosphere, but classy. Food is stunning. We got the banquet for 2, good selection of starters, house red wine was stunning and the mains were sensational, im a simple butter chicken guy and there butter chicken is full of tender chicken, not just a couple of bits, and the sauce is brilliant, could bottle that up and sell it. Another brilliant experience.

Traditional India cuisine, tasteful, good service and cozy environment of refectory. Offers special package at a certain time. Lunch combo is one of the best choice. My favourite restaurant for lunch once a week :) Excellent service Always miss the Chicken Malabari 😋

Our family of 21 gathered to celebrate my father's 90th birthday at Indian on the Crescent tonight. I can't thank Som and the team enough for giving us such a magical evening. We ordered our meals before the event which meant that we were not waiting long before our dinner was on the table. The food was fantastic. The aromas were divine, only surpassed by the flavours; everyone enjoyed their meals so much. And the service was wonderful. We had a very attentive waitress, and Som kept an eye on us. The meal was surprisingly inexpensive for the quality of food that was presented. The atmosphere is lovely, the fire was roaring and we were able to personalise the space for our father. Som, you and your team have surpassed yourself. We are so grateful for all your efforts tonight. It means so much. Thank you. I'm sure we'll see you again soon.

I ordered the butter chicken and butter prawns (medium spice), along with three cheese naans and everything was absolutely delicious! The flavour and spice level were perfect, and both dishes were bursting with rich, authentic taste. The cheese naans were soft, fresh, and the perfect complement. Customer service is always friendly and prompt, making every visit a great experience. Indian at the Crescent is hands down our go to spot for Indian cuisine I highly recommend to anyone craving quality, flavourful Indian food! 5⭐️

Delivery - Mango chicken was nice, heat was great. Let down by the Cheese and Garlic Naan bread. Tasted undercooked and not very pleasant to eat.

Real genuine friendly service thank you. The butter chicken, mango chicken and kadai chicken were outstanding - delicate flavours and fresh. We also had garlic naan and onion bhaji - yum. Highly recommended.

Soooo impressed with this space. The most recent exhibition was stunning and I love how they are utilizing this place for all to enjoy! Here are some photos of the rock painting they did over holidays. The amazing atmosphere and service is also outstanding!

We love this art museum! I take my daughter there most Thursdays for the kids crafts and she absolutely loves it. It is nice to find a space where children can learn to appreciate art and be encouraged to create their own. It is a comfortable and inviting space.

Its okay. The staff are lovely . But it is just so small compared to what it in other city's that it is almost a bit embarrassing. I am aware it is transitional but the exhibit I saw felt a bit ..uncurated.. compared to the type of exhibition concepts you see elsewhere (i.e: chch art gallery). Then I read all pieces were for sale . That's kinda strange for a public gallery??? Also I really dislike that generic elevator music was playing. When I go to a gallery I like to be able to focus on looking and reading stuff . The quiet is part of the appeal. It was really strange- like hearing the radio on in a library . Maybe places do this now?? I find this super odd . Is the music selected for the art at all ? is it random ? I also walked past this loads of times not realizing it was a free public art gallery . No not because of the maori used .I didn't notice because it doesnt say "public" or "invercargill" anywhere and only has teeny tiny text saying art and museum . This is a graphic design flaw. It says "YOUR SPACE" twice in huge letters (bigger than He Waka Tuia ) . At a glance people read the thing with the most emphasis . YOUR SPACE is meaningless to passerby's especially tourists. Change it to GALLERY and or ART or MUSEUM and you will suddenly have more visitors .

Southern Farmers Market

Farmers' market
In Invercargill, nestled in the heart of the city, lies Queens Park, a lush green haven offering a serene escape. The Southern Farmers Market is more than just a shopping spot; it's a vibrant community gathering celebrating local agriculture and creativity. With around 15 food stalls, craft vendors, and live music, it's an enjoyable experience for locals and visitors alike.
The stores were closed on Sunday however, the farmers’ market was opened. Even when it was not the best weather, this place was crowded. There was life music, amazing home made goods and a lot of street foods. Stand out was Wild Yeast Bakery with excellent artisanal European breads like focaccia, baguettes… if I was living here, I would have come every week to get what I need for the week because this is the best bakery in New Zealand so far. The baker and staff work at the booth were friendly and helpful. Please come to taste the danishes there.
Henriette R — Google review
It's definitely happening, although it's a very small market, there are a lot of customers. There are about 15 food stalls, 5 craft stalls, a veggie seller, a plant seller, honey stall, etc. They have live music too. The bun and siumay is the highlight, the garlic chilli sauce was so good.
Line S — Google review
I was amazed at the number of different crafted items and cuisien on offer I reckon the individual stall holders have set the bar very, very high, for themselves There are plenty of tables for one to sit at and chow down on treats while being entertained live music Don't be shy. eat and listen Their is no karaoke hard sell going on at all ....
Wayne E — Google review
Nice little market, around 20-25 stalls. Mostly the usual farmers market fare: veggies, honey, soap/skincare, plants, etc. A few food stalls at the end, plus a mini food truck court with three or four trucks. Come hungry!
Gretchen H — Google review
Such a cool little market on Sunday in Invercargill. We bought oyster mushrooms and the kids had cookies and cupcakes. Also, the japanese curry on rice is so worth it!! $7 is affordable and delicious! We bought 3 containers and had 3 cups of karaage chicken, $6 a cup. Theres a milk tea and egg waffle store too and sold the best egg waffles we have had in awhile. It was so scrumptious! For $9 we had a huge egg waffle with loads of ice cream in the middle. The kids were definitely happy about this dessert. Milk tea was a bit too sweet. Next time we will ask to reduce the sugar content. We will return the next time we are in Invercargill.

Nice to see a farmers market in Invercargill now! Only 15 or so stalls but all very creative. I would have liked to see more local food options like bluff oysters, local pies or whitebait patties. Live music would also be great.

We have been several times and continue to do so. The short trip from Invercargill is a pleasant drive. The staff are always helpful, courteous and most welcoming. The food is amazing, the views equally so. Pleasant seating and surrounds all place tables have great views out to sea. Pleased that this restaurant has passionate owners who love what they do and they have moved here to acquire this business from living previously in the North Island I believe. Well done to you all.

Historic and iconic landmark in Invercargill. Erected to commemorate the soldiers who fought in the South African Boar War. The only one of it's type in New Zealand and possibly Australia.
Mark P — Google review
I remember seeing this on an archived map of Invercargill that was created around 1918 (I'm probably somewhat incorrect) but it's so amazing that it is still well in tact looking nice today and not moved or damaged badly.
Carolina M — Google review
This memorial to the fallen soldiers from the Boer War dates back to 1908. And it’s a very international piece – with Aberdeen granite columns, and a line trooper made of Italian marble. This impressive memorial in Invercargill, designed by Newton Vane, was unveiled in 1908. Southlanders had expressed little enthusiasm for the national veterans' home memorial in Auckland and were determined to express a sense of pride in their province's contribution to the war. So although the memorial was called the 'fallen troopers memorial' and the east face read 'In memory of Southland's Fallen Troopers', the north and south faces were dedicated to the Southland men who had served in the war. The trooper on the top was an expression of pride in their efforts. The monument also included a drinking fountain, seen as an alternative to the pub. (Prohibition was introduced in Invercargill in 1906 and lasted 40 years). The clock on the memorial was added later. Watch out for traffic when crossing the road to get up close. The Round a bout has 2 lanes and traffic can appear out of no where.

St. Mary's Basilica is often hailed as one of the most beautiful churches in New Zealand, boasting stunning stained-glass windows that add to its charm. The church bears a striking resemblance to Sancta Sophia in Istanbul, as it was designed based on it by an architect commissioned by the first priest. Despite occasional visits from students of St Joseph's neighboring school, the basilica remains a serene and impressive place with lovely statues and a decorative ceiling.

I visited this church not long after visiting Istanbul and noticed its similarity to Sancta Sophia there. We had to ask for a key to see the interior so I asked the priest about it. He commented that the first priest commissioned an architect to build the church based on Sancta Sophia, as he had visited it and been impressed by it.

The menu boasts a delightful array of flavors, with options to suit all spice preferences, including a commendable selection of vegan choices.
Excellent Indian curries and service on a Saturday night. Get one's authentic Indian flavors here. Why other customers come to ethnic restaurants and expect the restaurant to reduce the native spiciness of it's dishes is an oxymoronic mystery? Prices are more than reasonable.

First of all the service was impeccable. Very attentive & always with a smile. The food ... wow. The best Indian cuisine I've ever had. Everything was perfect. The onion bhajis are the best. Naan bread was so fresh & delicious. The food was delivered within an excellent timeframe. Lovely background music & atmosphere. Prices are spot on. We also had wine & beer all of which had great selections. We will definitely go back.

This place is so highly rated on Google and TripAdvisor. It has a great location, parking was easy and the service was very good. The food, however, was awful. The samosa was not tasty. The mint sauce was bitter. The paneer in the kadhai paneer was terribly old. I felt sick quite quickly afterwards. I spent quite a bit there. Over $60 for a single person's dinner. But it was not money well spent.

We’ve always been regulars at their Blenheim branch—it’s our go-to spot for Indian food that perfectly suits our taste buds, and not once have we been disappointed. So naturally, we had high expectations when visiting this second branch for the first time—and they truly delivered! The food was absolutely amazing—full of rich flavors, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. Every dish felt like it was made with care and authenticity. The staff were incredibly welcoming, warm, and attentive, which made our dining experience even better. The menu features an array of vegetarian dishes, and their sangria has garnered praise as one of the best in town. Guests have enjoyed flavorful meals made with fresh ingredients, although there have been some hiccups with service—like issues with frozen margaritas and cleanliness concerns at times.

Food was adequate in size for its value. The food wait time was quite long for a party of 4. Make sure to check your orders before paying, one staff must have accidentally inserted cocktails with our final bill despite not ordering some. Overall, still a good experience. Before dining at Amigos today, I read many reviews about it that were all great and it got me thinking as to why they were all great and no bad ones at all as we are all human and do make mistakes every now and then. So, today I got my answer. There are so many great reviews because it is great! From the moment we arrived at the door we felt looked after and welcomed by the staff and the smells coming from the open kitchen were fantastico! The atmosphere was fun, vibrant and ecelctic and the volume of music just right. The menu is extensive with all meat options as well as plenty of vegetarian ones too. Serving sizes are very generous and the combinations of flavours exciting. Everything tasted great and the tortilla chips they make are very more-ish! I give an A+ for food and flavour. The service was very good too with friendly, accommodating staff and only a short wait between ordering and receiving our meals. Best virgin mojito I've ever had! As a first time introduction to the world of Mexican food (beyond El Paso tacos off the supermarket shelf) for myself and my friend, we couldn't be more impressed and we are already discussing future visits with our friends and families. Side notes • Taco Tuesdays only $5 each! • Colouring activities for kids • Sombreros for everyone!

Used to be the best meat on chips in invercargill, ordered it maybe a few weeks ago and did not get what I had paid $17 for, the chips were just fries instead of the usual thick crinkle cut ones, the box had changed and there was barely enough in there to cover the bottom of the tray! Thought they might have just been closing and running out of supplies so left it for a few weeks, ordered this today and this is what came. Called and they were nice and replaced my order, I had to ride across town in the rain to pick up :)

Lamb shish kebab was juicy and tasty. The special sauce had lovely different flavours - spicy, tangy and had a bit of sweetness. Houmus was smooth and silky and better than most I have eaten. The serving size was such that I had to request to miss the rice. The service was excellent and Sandy, respecting the month of Ramadan also brought a few dates on the house. The place is simple but neat and tidy. Will go there again whenever I feel like having Turkish.

Went to Mevlana on Tay Street on News Years Day 2023. Very disappointed they charged a $3.5 surge charge without notifying they were doing so. They charge $23 for meat on chips, this was so bland, hardly any sauce, and the sauce I did get was watered down. Will not be back!

Very yummy pita pockets!! So good I got 2. The chai latte my partner ordered said it was easily one of thee nicest shes ever had. Meat and salad fresh tasting. Sauces were the perfect amount. Thank you guys!
