The Batch Cafe, located in Invercargill, New Zealand, has gained a strong reputation for its quality breakfast offerings. It has been recognized as the Hospitality NZ Cafe of the year multiple times and won the Hospitality NZ Supreme overall winner award in 2013. The cafe is known for its awesome breakfast and brunch options, making it one of the best places to enjoy a meal any time of day.
At first, we were supposed to wait to dine in at their place. We asked the female staff how it worked? She explained to us and reserved a table for us. That was very impressive. I got chicken filo with a small salad and coconut passion fruit cake which they serve with dill flowers on top. Not only the service that we got was superb, but also the food is delicious.

One day, I asked the young male waiter for recommendations and placed my order. I forget the name of the dish, but this sandwich was very tasty, with a good balance of sour, spicy (possibly seasoned cabbage) and beef flavours. I happened to be in Invercargill on a business trip and would like to go back. And I want to order the same.
Tatsuya O — Google review
We ordered eggs Benedict, coffee, and a chocolate cake! The food was tasty, but the menu didn’t have many options. The wait time was around 20–25 minutes since the place was really busy on Sunday. There were tables available for groups, but not for two people right away, so we had to wait!
Larissa S — Google review
It’s a great spot, probably the best/most popular cafe in this town. The Blue Cod Butty is my go-to every time I have to come to this wonderful part of the world, I can’t say enough good about it, I’ve tried to replicate it at home but can’t seem to quite get it right. My only comment would be the coffee is a bit slow coming out, but they are trying to make coffee for 1/2 of Invercargill at 8:30am so it’s understandable. Keep up the good mahi team.
Nick H — Google review
I was in 2 minds about writing this review because sometimes people get it wrong. But I leaned towards giving the review. One of our meals was great. The other, average would be generous. The “blue cod buttie” a pan fried fillet of Blue Cod, was neither pan fried, nor was is Blue Cod. Now don’t get me wrong, I like a good piece of Gurnard, which is what I was served, except it wasn’t good. At one point it had been battered and deep fried, but before it got to my plate it appeared to have been microwaved and the batter was soggy, the fish was dry and hotter than the sun itself. The salad and dressing were good, but it was hiding the paper thin, burnt toast underneath. Very disappointing for a place we have enjoyed in the past. We won’t be going back. Do better. Don’t lie about the meal you are serving. If you run out of something, let the customer know when they are ordering. And if you are replacing a part of the dish, cook it properly.
Ben A — Google review
Although this cafe was obviously popular, our group were able to find a big table. The coffee was excellent, the cabinet food was good and there was a good range to choose from. The service couldn't be faulted. The space is modern and the toilets were impeccably clean. We would definitely return if we are ever in Invercargill again.

Located in the industrial area of Invercargill, Industry is a popular neighborhood spot known for its delectable caramel doughnuts. These treats feature a combination of white whip, caramel, freshly whipped cream, and caramel milk chocolate. While the menu changes weekly, other favorite flavors include banoffee and raspberry with lemon curd. The cafe also offers great value for lunch with most items priced under NZ$20. Additionally, Industry provides catering services to bring delicious treats to events.
this cafe serves a mighty cheese roll. cheesy cozy yumminess. Oh and they do damn good coffee. its in an odd location tucked in a light industry commercial district but its always busy.

Amazing service for a very busy cafe. While waiting in line, the waitress asked if we wanted to reserve a table.
Fiona H — Google review
When we pulled up the place was very busy and we soon realised why, a great variety of cabinet food and catering to a range of dietary requirements (a list by the till including options such as keto/gf/nut free etc) the menu had great variety as well. We were in for lunch and tried the tacos as we could see nearly every table had some, and the poutine as well. Both were really well balanced and full of flavour! We were told no smoothies as short staffed however they were managing that well as food still came out really quickly and the tables were getting cleared promptly as well 🙂 Can’t wait to return and try more dishes off the menu !
Andrea B — Google review
Service was great. Wait staff really kept on top of it. A table was reserved for us while we ordered our food. I got the chicken tacos. Way to much sauce. It was overpowering. I also saw another customer trying to scrape the sauce off. VG coffee

5 stars don't feel like enough for this cafe! Went in with a group of work colleagues for lunch and prebooked it all as we only had an hour. Minutes after seating the food and drinks were in front of us. Food was top notch and staff were all happy and friendly. Other cafes should take notes from this establishment as it was 10/10 for everything and appeared to run like a well oiled machine from a customer point of view. Great work as hospo is not easy 🙂
Fawn T — Google review
The atmosphere in this café is the real highlight, it’s lively and welcoming. You’ll find all kinds of people here, from those meeting clients, students with their laptops, to friends simply hanging out. It’s a spot that suits every age. The food was fairly standard and the coffee was okay. I ordered a flat white, but it came with a bit too much froth, making it more like a cappuccino. Still, the cozy vibe more than made up for it.

Got the soup of the day, tasted exactly like a tin of pasta sauce. Wasnt nice at all, was very pricey aswell. Good service and the scone was nice tho.

They serve a nice breakfast, i ordered waffle and hubby tried their salmon bagel. Good quality of food. Cafe itself has a good ambience to have a chat and catch up with friends. Also every friday they have their special doughnut that change flavour every week. Try them on! They are the bomb!!!

Cafe
The Grille Café, located in Invercargill, is a popular spot for breakfast and brunch. Attached to Bill Richardson Transport World, this café offers much more than your typical museum eatery. The menu features comforting and flavorful items like corned beef hash with crispy potato, wilted spinach, poached egg, sourdough, and tomato salsa. The café prides itself on using seasonal flavors and local produce to create well-portioned dishes bursting with taste.
This is part of the Transportation museum and the food was very nice. Service was friendly and the overall experience was delightful.

Great big diner at the Transport Museum in Invercargill. I ordered the woffle and fried chicken and a basket of fries with aoili. Fantastic food.

Had the Big Breakfast in the afternoon because I got there late and had not eaten up till then. After that meal I didn't need to eat for another day. Big it was. The restroom was clean and very interesting as well. Went back there to finish looking g around one of the Best Transport Museums in the World.

We stopped by this cafe on our way down to Bluff. Ambience - This is such a cool cafe. The deco and the interior is worth the visit itself. Car themes permeate the place, even as far as the men's toilet, which took the term, "pit stop" to a new level. Food - we ordered a couple of items from the cabinet and the Grille Seafood Chowder. The Salmon Quiche from the cabinet is quite nice but the Seafood Chowder is simply awesome. Add some pepper and a dash of lemon to the seafood chowder and you will not be disappointed. Service - the service was great. Lots of smiles and very prompt service by the staff, especially Kahlee.

Had lunch here on the 30th Sep 2021 with my Aunty and Uncle and husband. What a great experience!!!! Such lovely staff and the atmosphere was relaxed and calm. I had a beef burger and fries for lunch - absolutely delicious and after being sick and not able to eat much this was amazing!! Husband had the lamb sliders with potato skins which he never chooses to eat! - yet he really enjoyed them. My Aunty had a cheese scone and skins. And the other meal was salmon on a potato rosti and an egg. All ridiculously tasty meals and really nice presentation too in the cool bowl/platter type plate!!! Will be back again definitely next time in Invercargill!!! Thankyou

Fun place. Great decor. Good food. Steak was very nice. Roast duck was delicious, but “game sauce” a little sweet/rich. Good service. Dessert was awesome!
Justin V — Google review
As a local google guide I always make sure to share my experiences to Google Local Connect which I am affilated and I always give my honest comments, observations and recommendations to others. This way I can help in answering thier inquries/questions about the place, activities or restaurants/place they're planning to go or do. Last night was our first time to dine in The Grille, Invercargill. We're local of the city but this is the only time we've visited the place. There are few things I will give a review base on my experience. 1. The place (The Grille) It's ambiance is totally will bring you back to the 50s, 60s, 70,s or 80s the decor was amazing and the appliances vintages ones brought me back to my childhood watching the vintage TV😁 i thought that was nice and creative. I even told my wee boy 3 years old that we got old TV like it when I was in his age. He was so amazed😂. The light of the entire restaurant fit to its theme ans decorations. It's cozy and warm there. 2. The Service (staff mainly) First impression last i guess thats why I always remind myself that those people/staff working as frontline/wait person/service crew should always have the BIG smile😁 and Friendly approach not intemidating. The first staff I approach was bot so friendly in her way of talking to me. We arrived 10 mins early on our booking time. When I was so friendly in asking her about our table as I got no idea yet how they do things, like should we just grab a table or look for our table things like these...so I asked her. At first she told me that "you know that our service for this is at 6pm right, I will show your table after I'll finish this" that sounds like I was told off for coming early as she didnt smile at all, to me her facial expression and approach was not friendly. I felt upset but I didnt took it in a wrong way or let her know how i felt instead I turned and told my husband they will start serving at 6pm so we sat at the sofa in front of the fire place for 10 mins while oue boy was enjoying his play time in their play area (which is something recommendable for restaurants like The Grille) i thought this is a brilliant idea having a wee play area for kids so those couples who have kids can enjoy their time together while kids playing upon witing for the food to arrive. Thumbs up for that! Another wait/staff assisted us with our orders when the first staff finally took us to our table. My personal comments in this matter are: First, wait person should ask somebody else to help us out and guide us to our table while she was busy in the bar. She could told us, "Hi welcome to the Grille, Im sorry I cant help you but my company will take you to your table our service will be at 6pm feel free to choose for a drink" in that way we could have felt welcome. Coz honestly it was not a nice welcome after all. Next, wait person should be alert when I say alert enthusiastic, energitic and lively. 3.Food-100 percent recommended no questions with what we order we are very happy. I love that being in keto diet I have the food that I can enjoy to eat in their menu so that was well done!👏 4. Total experience 7/10 I will say I recommend this restaurant to others because there are room for change especially to the wait staff.

The Auction House, a 151-year-old building in Invercargill, boasts a striking black and white photo showcasing its original incarnation as an auction house. The cafe offers a huge menu selection and an inviting outdoor seating area that attracts crowds day and night. Located in the modern commercial precinct block, it is known for its fancy brunch choices and delicious mince on toast.
The Big Breakfast was big, the long black was delicious, the staff were friendly with a smile and a quip whilst still professional. I can't understand the poor reviews. Our meal arrived in good time - it was obviously freshly cooked. I asked for GF, and nothing was too much trouble. They swopped out my sausage for halloumi, and they hid a tasty tomato under the bacon. Best bit - the potato rosti/hash brown. Beautifully seasoned. There was a whole shelf of gluten-free sweet treats, 7 options! If only I'd had room after breakfast.

A birthday brunch for 10 people. Great service Excellent menu Great coffee We had booked a table, which was good as it was quite busy Our drinks orders were taken while we mulled over the menu Shortly after our meal orders were taken and our drinks started arriving The food came out within 20 minutes, and it came all together. Meals were a good temperature Good serving sizes, and tasted great No issues with the drinks and meals, and everyone left feeling full and content. A great experience, and we'll be back.
Matt T — Google review
The staff were very helpful especially given how busy they were. Meals arrived promptly and were cooked exactly to order and delicious. The Auction House whilst disappointing on a previous trip due to delays and staff shortages, it is well worth visiting. The outdoor area is outstanding in summer and you can always chose something from the cabinets if you have time restraints.
Therese M — Google review
My sister and I stopped by the Auction House for lunch today and unfortunately left feeling disappointed. I ordered the pork belly poke bowl, which cost $25.50, but what I received was more like a half-filled side plate than a hearty lunch. There was barely a tablespoon of each ingredient, making the portion size feel underwhelming—especially for the price. What made it more surprising is that I’ve had the chicken poke bowl there before, and it was generous and served in an actual bowl. This time, the presentation and portion didn’t live up to the “poke bowl” name at all. While the flavors were good, the value and serving size were definitely lacking. I won’t be in a rush to return—especially if I’m going there hungry.
Olivia M — Google review
I’m glad we chose here for our breakfast before leaving Invercargill. Great food and coffee . The pulled pork bun and pancakes were superb! The yoghurt cake was also delicious! Very crowded but the food were served up within a considerably short time.
J — Google review
We had been told to try this cafe/bar when we were in Invercargill. Unfortunately we got there after the kitchens had closed, so we could only get bar food. Ordered a pizza and loaded wedges, with 2 cappuccinos. The coffees were very good but the food was mediocre. My wedges were not appealing to my eye and didn't taste all that great to match. My husband said his pizza was good. Staff were friendly enough
Debbie J — Google review
Had lovely breakfast with my sister here this morning. We both enjoyed the Healthy start and hot drinks. The music, staff and atmosphere were great. Would recommend to others Returned 3 weeks later for tapas and cocktails. Enjoyed lovely selection of tapa options, waitress was very helpful and live music a real bonus. We will return again

Fat Bastard Pies is a popular spot in Invercargill, New Zealand, known for its delicious and affordable savory pies. Located at 158 Tay Street, this eatery offers a wide selection of savory pies priced at around NZ$5 each. Visitors rave about the flavorful options such as the Fat Tony's Chicken Parmesan and the pie of the month, Flaming Moo.
It's a big call but I have just eaten the best pie in my life. We ordered 2 boxes for work, the first one was mainly to try the "Piggy Bastard". At work we all watched the video on making them and waited 2 weeks to get them, pork belly, spices, mustard, apples, jalapeno, amazing pastry. Insane, everything works perfectly and you can literally taste every part and as a whole bite its out the gate. Most of the guys at work have made the call best pie ever! Can't wait to try a few of the others we ordered.
Glenn — Google review
Ordered a box of 8 which had steak n cheese, mince n cheese, cranberry chicken & Brie, seafood & creamy chicken. There were 6 of us that tried them all and had mixed reviews but overall they were really good especially the seafood & cranberry chicken were the most delicious. Delivery to Auckland was good and the packaging was amazing. They are good size fat bastard pies too:). They were filling the pastry on top was a bit too flaky but other than that good kiwi pies that are up there with some of the best bakeries in Auckland. Easy cooking instructions it only took 20mins and came out perfect.
Trish L — Google review
Great takeaway for pies. Delicious and has some other baked goods. Can also order online around NZ.
Charaine P — Google review
Yummy,The Best Pies!!I tried the seafood pie, steak and cheese and lamb n Kumara. I Came here for the first time on our honeymoon from Auckland.Im a pie maker from award winning Patrick's Pies and I couldn't really fault the pies I had,The crust and pastry were perfect.Nice, short, buttery and flaky. The fillings were delicious, well seasoned and a almost perfect ratio.I would Probly add a touch more cheese to the Steak and cheese to cut through the richness of the gravy, but that's all. They have a very wide and unique range of pie flavours catering to everybody's taste bud with a sweets cabinet and barista coffee available, one last small addition I'd recommend is serving the very humble kiwi Cream Donut/bun. All in all,a very good and happy experience 10/10..Heaps of free parking near the store, great welcoming staff with excellent product knowledge, relatively good pricing.Recommended to all A+

Strong contender in the “best pies” debate and the best reason to visit Invercargill. We had a Bacon & Egg (solid) and Mr Mince & Big Cheese (fantastic) for breakfast, followed by a delicious custard square. Walked out with a box of fresh pies, fantastic value at 6 for $36. Standout had to be The Big Nude Seafood, followed closely for me by the Southland Mutton, and all the pies I chose were winners. The pastry is outstanding and the size and fillings are truly impressive, they are quite a meal! They heat really well at home so well worth taking away. Friendly helpful service, definitely will return or get my craving sorted with an online order or two.
Bronson — Google review
Had chicken & cranberry 9.5/10 & pepper steak 8.5/10... very peppery which is what you'd expect, but too much for me. Still ate it . Lovely pastry & filled me up all day, that means they've used good real produce.
Rosina K — Google review
Can definitely see why the queue was out the door! Had heard about Fat Bastards pies in Christchurch and in Invercargill and had to visit. Big nudes Seafood pie absolutely divine! Think I'll have to subscribe to get my fix sent to me.
Angela G — Google review
The pastry was the best part. A bit on the salty side for my liking, but it was cooked to perfection. I had steak and mushroom. There was a herb used, I'm not 100% on my identification - I think it was Thyme. The overall flavour was too heavy, very earthy. I expect it to be earthy, but this was over the top, the Thyme dominated. I couldn't 'taste' the mushroom because the flavours weren't balanced. There was very little gravy and it was very punchy. The beef-: could have been amazing but it was so dry and over cooked that it got stuck in my throat. The beef fibres were very tight. To their credit there was no gristle- this was awesome. New Zealanders', we love our pies and we are probably some of the worlds biggest critics. What's needed: Less cooking time- allow for reheating and put that on the bag! Less pepper, less salt, flavour balancing More gravy A steak and mushroom pie should be a serving of a steak and mushroom casserole encased in a yummy pastry

Great food options! Decent portion sizes. Great takeaway options. I ordered a dirty chair and it's their own recipe, great flavour! Also full of fun quirky local foods and nik naks in store. Will be coming back!

I tried the brekky bagel and a Biscoff cookie, and they were both so good! The bagel was perfect—a great way to start the day. I’m also a big fan of Biscoff, and this cookie was dangerously delicious. The only thing was that the menu I saw on Google was outdated, but I’ve uploaded a photo of the new menu for others.

Many different types of bagel to choose from! The best for us was Holy Cow with the rosemary bagel 😋 Remember to add hash to your bagel ❤️ Coffee was nice - mocha and americano 👍🏼 Would return again ☺️

Hot chocolate was on point, bagel was great, Girl at the counter was very friendly and knew what she was doing, only problem was with the seating
Uziah H — Google review
The bagels here are very tasty, there's an enormous selection of toppings to choose from and the choice of several bagels to have them on. I would definitely recommend the bagels. The coffee was the worst I've had in recent memory, tasting incredibly burned to the extent of being undrinkable.

Tasted very American in the best possible way - as a Californian, this spot really reminded me of home. The Breaky on a cheese bagel was perfect as a calm yet delicious and decadent breakfast. On the other hand, the Holy Guacamole on a jalapeño bagel had a great kick of heat and worked really well. The coffee is really good too. Overall a lovely spot for brunch!

Every time I visit Invercargill, I go to Toasted. The bagels (jalapeño or rosemary sea salt being my favourites) are so good and the combination options they have are amazing. So far I’ve had the most of the salmon/caper style, the basil/lemon sauce is so good, and recently I had the more traditional breakfast one - bacon, egg, hashbrown (yum), and BBQ sauce. The only problem with trying new ones is now I don’t know what to make my “regular” because they are all so good. If you are lucky, they may have some “unloved” (day old) bagels you can buy for takeaway to keep in the freezer!

Very impressed - the BEST chowder I’ve had in a very very very longtime. Service was amazing, it’s a rare to find happy hospo staff bouncing around on their shift. Hubby was salivating upon arrival of his Short Ribs - they were mouth watering and soooo tender!

I got the last of the huge cheese rolls and was so happy as it was so delicious. The custard slice was brought to my table first but would have expected them all together ( years of working in a restaurant was to bring food to the table in one go depending on the different courses). Food was delish. Staff were slow to clean tables of dirty dishes even though I didn't think it was too busy. Great closed off area for children to play and not get in everyone way while still being seen.

I don’t normally take food photos, but when I saw this delivered to my table I felt I had to! 😂 and I was right, it was the beat bacon and eggs I’ve had in a cafe. Perfectly cooked eggs, and the bacon was delicious, slightly crispy and absolutely perfect. And the coffee was equally impressive. I’ll be back fir breakfast tomorrow 😊

Global Byte Cafe, located at 150 Dee Street in Invercargill, New Zealand, is a popular spot known for its delicious coffee and cake combos. The cafe has recently undergone a transformation under new ownership and has garnered attention for its scrumptious cheese scones and next-level coffee. With a fresh new look and laid-back atmosphere, the cafe offers a great variety of food options both sweet and savory.
From the moment we stood at the food cabinet trying to decide on what to have we were greeted with smiles and friendly hellos from the staff, a good way to start your experience in a cafe. It was not super busy, which for me was great as you could have a conversation and actually hear what people were saying. The food in the cabinet looked very appetizing, but we ordered off the menu, eggs benedict, seafood chowder, coffee, and a slice from the cabinet. The eggs were cooked just right, runny yolk and set white, tasty hollandaise and the english muffin was soft and easy to eat, the seafood chowder was tasty, creamy and good chucks of seafood in it and a big bowl, we'll worth the money for this. The coffee was perfect in both temperature and flavor and the slice well it was sweet and delicious just to cap off a great lunch. Thanks for making the visit to your cafe an enjoyable one.

What an incredible find! My husband and I weren't sure where to eat but after a walk around a few streets we discovered Global Bite. We saw lots of people eating so that was a great sign. We were served by a school boy who was absolutely delightful. He was friendly, professional and made us feel very welcome. The fries were fantastic and very generous, and our bagels super tasty. So many hidden flavours! My husband loved his coffee. He loves a flat white with hazelnut and this beautiful cafe served the perfect ratio of coffee and hazelnut. My English breakfast tea was great, and I was very pleased to have sweetener. I need this. The service was so genuine, professional and welcoming, and the cafe gets everything right. We wish we had this place in Christchurch, as we'd be regulars! Thank you so much for such a great experience. I think the owner must be the blonde lady? Absolutely amazing. Such a genuine person. Thank you.

Lunch for 2. Toasted sandwich (big thick one with loads of filling), seafood chowder (tasty, creamy, not a obvious chunks of seafood, but was very nice, came with a little bread. Add tea, and a smoothie (which was very good according to my husband), and a piece of fudge $47 bucks. Staff were lovely and food delivered in a timely fashion. Lastest visit disappointed with our eggs, hard poached eggs! Criminal!

Spacious, large selection of sweet and savory baked goods. I loved the moist Belgian waffles drizzled with maple syrup, yogurt and berry compote. Mocha was excellent (though I’ve yet to find a place in New Zealand during my visit that doesn’t serve excellent coffee.)

We went here for lunch on Sunday.. We found that the food was very average.. The end of the sausage roll was hard and dry, the toast sandwich was sprinkled with an unusual sauce, and there was too much seasoning in the bread filling. So it Took over the taste.

It is a wonderful lil cafe by the road to Queenstown from invercargill. The customer attention that they give is really sweet. It's really affordable. I found the place really cute. It was super delicious and they were open about putting a vegan option similar to that on the menu for good 🥳 add some tofu and it’s a dish from heaven 😃 we also got a vegan chai latte :) SUPER friendly staff and nice vibe! Been to Invercargill a couple of times and this place is some of the best breakfast/lunch food I’ve had in NZ. Locally owned and they roast their own beans (well) so the coffee is also excellent. Good vibes. Get amongst it

Read up about this place and chosen on high ratings. Food was good. Coffee a bit over extracted. No sugar on table, only a jug of white sugar syrup when asked. One salt shaker to share amongst all tables. Out of luck if you want pepper. Coffee and tea arrived with no spoon or sugar. Staff were friendly and helpful.

If I could give 6 stars I would! Stellar service by kind and funny people. Got piccolos. The coffee is good and from their own roasting company, which is great (yay local). Also got the most addictive toastie ever, the 3 pickles one. I need to try and reproduce them at home: we liked it so much that we took a second one the first day and made a small detour to come back the next day to get another one. We also tried the chocolate brownie and the cheese scone, and both were great. If I'd live closeby, I'd be there every day. Only a few places to sit down outside, but they managed to make it cosy. Also, make sure you go visit the park in front, as it is beautiful and free. You can even see tuataras and an aviary!

Would've been a higher score but the waffle was burnt on the underside and french toast super gooey all the way through. The coffee we ordered was also scolding hot meaning the milk was over-steamed and burnt. I think the french toast was decent value still but the waffle was not worth it.

Atmosphere and presentation of meals is great but the child's burger was raw and still red, my child didn't eat it. Informed staff who said they would show the kitchen staff, collected plate and waitress agreed but no response or remedy from staff other then a couple of free coffees. When we arrived we sat at a nice sunny table and then got asked to move once we sat down as they wanted to put a reserve sign. Kids pasta average, sea chowder was average and the first time my husband didn't finish it. Overall poor experience!

Service was great lovely welcoming staff. Building is great seats very comfortable and my Coffee was simply excellent. However the food was a ltlle dissapointing my toast was so hard it shattered when cut! My wife's chicken was so overcooked it couldn't be cut at all. With a diverse menu featuring carefully crafted dishes, Emberz is perfect for those looking to indulge in quality cuisine while enjoying the warm ambiance of its tastefully decorated dining rooms.
Went in for dinner with my partner. She loved the chips! She’s a hard critique. Steak was cooked as we requested, a medium rare. The amount of food was adequate and worth the value of what we paid for. Service was good. I ordered their no-bake cheesecake. The ice cream scoop redeemed the flavors for me. Loved the small touch of flowers. Overall a good experience and good value for money. 👍

Turned up unexpectedly and was unexpectedly surprised how great the food was. Being from a big city, Emberz out did some of the big city restaurants with their menu and flavours and food choices. Family group meal incl. Kids. Great traffic lights! and generous kids menu. Garlic bread excellent. Meals mixed from fantastic to ok. A couple were not hot enough temp wise but surprisingly had chilli in them which meant 1 person couldn't eat the meal. Otherwise generous in size. Dessert delicious. They did well with big group.

We have visited this restaurant for lunch because we were quite hungry and read that it was the best restaurant in town on various websites. I am not sure how the dinner differs so I just review the lunch I had which was roast of the day, pork belly, beetroot salad and macadamia parfait. Unfortunately I fail to understand the hype at all. The ingredients were of good quality but the taste and seasoning and cooking style was totally off. It basically tastes like English food in every way- and this is not a compliment. It looked good but it was bland. The salad was way too sweet, the veggies were way too mushy, the sauce with the pork belly was awefully english. The meat was okay and the gravy was pretty standard but also a bit bland and lacked seasoning. The Macadamia parfait was good though, but I would definitely never recommend this pace to any person who is not British.

I had the fish and chips with salad special. It was beautifully cooked and generous. My friend had a mousetrap from the cabinet and that was lovely as well. Friendly staff, the toilets were clean and there was even a full length mirror to check out your hair/outfit. The prices were reasonable, I would certainly go there again.
Susan F — Google review
So our visit was unfortunate this time. Usually when I come here it's great however this time it missed the mark hugely. The nachos were really bland and cheese was not melted properly, the iced mocha was really watery and lacked any sort of good flavour. The eggs were overcooked. No one meal checked us at all, and there was no water available either for our table. While I was in the bathroom the light went out and no switches, might be a sensor thing but when I waved around nothing happened, I tripped and smacked my head in the bathroom. I then let the young ginger haired girl know who was at the counter and she said "oh... sorry what toilet was it?" I let her know and that was it, and had no comment about the food or coffee. I hate letting people know when stuff was bad, and I was incredibly polite but no attempt to repair the situation was made at all. I'm really gutted about this. Visited today (saturday) at 12.
Emily C — Google review
I ended up walking out of this cafe today after paying $21 for stale scones with cream out of a can and waiting a ridiculously long time for tea for two...only to eventually get 2 large mugs dropped off at our table, later followed by a large teapot that would have been lucky to fill one of the mugs. There was one paltry teabag floating sadly within the teapot, creating tea so weak it was helpless. There was not even an offer of milk. Service was slow and indifferent. In the end we walked out leaving most of the stuff untouched. Things were a bit average last time we were there a few weeks back but we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Sadly, this time was even worse.

As a group we really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the food was divine. However a few too many hiccups in the service with the lady getting it wrong about 6 times, bringing the wrong order to our table or missing something out completely. Used to be the best meat on chips in invercargill, ordered it maybe a few weeks ago and did not get what I had paid $17 for, the chips were just fries instead of the usual thick crinkle cut ones, the box had changed and there was barely enough in there to cover the bottom of the tray! Thought they might have just been closing and running out of supplies so left it for a few weeks, ordered this today and this is what came. Called and they were nice and replaced my order, I had to ride across town in the rain to pick up :)

Lamb shish kebab was juicy and tasty. The special sauce had lovely different flavours - spicy, tangy and had a bit of sweetness. Houmus was smooth and silky and better than most I have eaten. The serving size was such that I had to request to miss the rice. The service was excellent and Sandy, respecting the month of Ramadan also brought a few dates on the house. The place is simple but neat and tidy. Will go there again whenever I feel like having Turkish.

Even those, if you just wanna have a nice afternoon break, it will be a good place. Price is a little high. We were in Invercargill for four days. Came to the station twice. The first time was because I saw the bright red Wagyu shop sign. You should try it if you can eat it as a pig, right? The staff are as energetic as bells, with masculine enthusiasm and unique style. There is no size choice for coffee, only mugs. The grilled pork skewers are very fragrant. The burgers are pretty good too. I haven't touched burgers in years and have grilled a range of foods. Really well done, Unique food . It's easy to eat like a cute little pig. We are from Shanghai and live in Auckland. This time is our son’s school holiday, so he can go out and experience the world. My son loves the pork skewers here so much.

The food was very disappointing. I ordered the Rodeo Burger, but it didn’t feel like a real burger at all—the meat tasted old and artificial, more like a low-quality frozen patty. Ordering this for lunch and ending up with such bad food was frustrating. The gravy fries weren’t any better; the sauce seemed store-bought and had an unpleasant taste. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Exceptional cafe. Great place to meet for coffee or lunch. Staff are friendly and efficient. The food is varied and exceedingly tasty.
Johanna R — Google review
My girlfriend and friend came here for some coffee, food was well prepared and flavourful. The barista can carry 3 cups of coffee at a time which was so impressive, that alone justified the cost. There is a student discount as well.
Lucien R — Google review
Lovely relaxing atmosphere, friendly efficient staff and very tasty food! I had vegetable soup which was thick and very flavoursome accompanied with fresh and light baked bread, apple shortcake, and a mocha. All at a resonable price. Will definitely dine here again and recommend to others 😊

Big breakfast hit the spot! Loved the mushrooms, something special going on there!

Tuatara Backpackers Lodge offers simple dorms and private rooms with free Wi-Fi, along with a cafe and two TV lounges. The lodge is located in an area known for its top venues, including Redcliff Restaurant & Bar, Black Dog Bar, The Vinyl, Bunker Bar, Tuatara Lodge Cafe and Bar, Ziffs Cafe & Bar, Waikiwi Tavern, Niche Laneway Bar, Rustico, and The Moose Bar & Restaurant.
The actual rooms and building is in great condition, everything was clean, tidy and comfortable. The kitchen is great. I think it would have been great through the week, but I stayed on a Saturday night and didn’t get to sleep until after 2am, due to cars racing on the street and people partying on the street, so bring earphones if you are there on the weekend! Great value for money though.

Good food, cozy ambiance, and super friendly staff. Lots of seating and the coffee is just perfect. After three years living in Invercargill, it’s my first time trying this café, and I’m glad I did. The pie was huge with homemade pastry, and the frittata with salad was delicious. Reasonably priced, and I’ll definitely be back.

Went back to try pizza again thinking they had a bad day on my last visit but apparently they are happy to make sub standard pizza. I wonder if the chef even knows why his dough won’t rise? Of maybe he just doesn’t care and buys pre made bases. What a terrible pizza

Go to the Pub if nobody at the reception despite opening time. Stayed one night in private single room which provided towel before heading to Steward Island. Returned from Steward Island , I stayed in 8beds dormitory. This time no towel given and the bed doesn’t have shade to close for privacy. And this time facing the pub owned by the same hostel and road thus pretty noisy with the loud music and from the vehicles. The heater is not strong since it’s a bigger 8 bedder dormitory. Location is excellent given it’s right in front of the Intercity coach pick up and drop off area and also very near to Invercargill Mall and Park n Save, the cheap grocery mall. Suggested to stay in the private single room which has better facing than the dormitory as the latter face the noisy road and loud music from the Pub downstairs. Oh they charge $10 per day for secured lock room of your luggage but I decided to choose the unsecured manner ( ie just left it beside the staircase. However all good as just bring your own toiletries and towel and make sure you charge your phone in the lounge or kitchen as there is only 2 power points in the 8 bedder dorm and one used for the heater !!!

Nice hostel in the heart of the city. I stayed one night in a single room, it was basic but warm and comfortable, decent for the price. Common areas are well-equipped and clean, showers are hot, the staff was really friendly. Only downsides are: - walls are very thin, so you'll hear what happens in the rooms around you, in the corridor and even outside. - parking your car can be tricky as you have to park on the street, but it's free at night Overall, I was pretty satisfied with my stay and would recommend this place for budget travelers.
Raphaël — Google review
I stayed at Tuatara Lodge in Invercargill and had a good overall experience. The room was clean, the service friendly and helpful, and the lodge offered all the basics you need for a short stay. The location is okay, within walking distance of the town centre, cafés and shops. However, parking can be a bit tricky, especially during busier times, as spaces are limited. Nothing fancy, but a solid and reliable place to stay if you're passing through Southland.
Uwe M — Google review
We arrived quite late from a long drive so we had a late check in but the staff was very responsive through emails and very accommodating. Check in for us was easy. However, there was no mentioning of parking. We parked on the parking on the side and realized that is free in the weekend. The bed was very comfortable however our room was right next to the staircase door therefore we can hear people open and close the door all the time. There is only one washroom available in the women toilets/ showers, since we only stay for a very short night, it didn’t bother us very much. The room was clean. Overall, it was a comfortable one short stay for us to get through towns. We didn’t really check out the town center so can’t really comment on that but the hostel is right in the town center.

The Seriously Good Chocolate Company in New Zealand has made a name for itself by promoting the country through its delectable chocolates. From being enjoyed by notable figures like Prince Harry and John Key to being stocked in hundreds of outlets worldwide, the company has come a long way since its humble beginnings 14 years ago. Visitors can indulge in artisan chocolates at their cafe and even take a behind-the-scenes tour of the factory, best experienced in the morning.
We went here for lunch, they have delicious savory food as well as some yum sweet treats.

I can’t beleive I just lucked upon this incredible chocolate shop and cafe. You can watch them make chocolates out the back. Their chocolates rival anything made in Tassie. I visited the shop daily for a week and have sampled nearly everything from mint choccies to Rocky Road. They also make chicks for special occasions like the Burt Munro Challenge. Then there is the staff. How friendly and helpful are they, Heather in particular is a total gem. The quality of their product and level of service is Seriously Good.

Great chocolate, but so busy we're all crammed in there. Very small premises. Get in quick. Great gift ideas too.
Zoom Z — Google review
You would expect to find chocolate cake at a chocolate factory, but no, they didn't have any. Their brownie had a layer of cheesecake in it...what a bummer. Was not wowed by anything in their cabinet and there wasn't really much on offer so we left very disappointed.
Ingrid — Google review
The southern most chocolate company. Heaps of chocolate collections to choose from. A great place to buy souvenirs for friends and family! The staffs are so lovely and helpful, and made us feel very welcomed:) Tried the Chocolate Spoon, delicious!
Yuan Z — Google review
I have a bit of a sweet tooth so maybe I’m a little biased, but I do think this was excellent. I got both a little chocolate they had made with a strawberry filling and their lotte cookie cheesecake. Both were delicious. The only reason I didn’t finish the cheesecake is because I’m trying to limit my sugar intake, but I will say I had a really tough time putting the fork down. Before I knew it half the cheesecake was gone!
Miguel V — Google review
Great hot chocolate with marshmallow. I just walked by looking for food in the late afternoon. When I came by this place. It came with a chocolate spoon and a generous proportion of marshmallows. A good afternoon treat! Sadly, they don't serve any savoury dishes, but why do I see people posting cheese rolls and sorts?

Bought some pinot noir chocolates today. After getting home (which is over an hour away), I sat down to enjoy this and realized I had been sold expired chocolate. Would not recommend.

Nestled in the heart of Invercargill, Tuatara Cafe / Bar is a must-visit destination for craft beer enthusiasts and food lovers alike. This charming spot boasts an impressive selection of local brews, including their own unique Gadoochi cider made from heritage fruit sourced from Otago. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, enhanced by friendly staff who provide exceptional service that makes every guest feel welcome.
Such a cozy and lovely place for brunch! The prices of food was good value for my buck Service was great!

Value for money! The Lamb shanks were huge and very tasty. The beers are nice, but I asked the server for something not too hoppy, and they couldn't really provide much advice other than to take the tasting paddle, which I did. Beers were hit and miss, one Golden style beer was quite nice, the rest a bit too fruity. Lovely place to sit with mural ceiling and brewing tanks in the back. Would come back, but would love a bit more advice on the brews.

Ideal Location for Festivities! My dad's birthday was celebrated here, and everything went perfectly! The location was ideal for a private conference, and the staff was welcoming and accommodating. Everyone had a terrific time, and the atmosphere made the day even more memorable. I heartily endorse this location for any type of event!

After several days walking in Fiordland National Park, I wanted a beer. A good one! I found it at Gadoochi Brewing (Tuatara Bar & Cafe), a creamy porter. The blue cod fish & chip meal with home-made tartaric sauce was delicious and the bar tender / matre d' was quietly attentive and lovely. Happy hiker here!

Stopped here for breakfast, very quiet at 7am on a Saturday morning. Nice calm atmosphere with great service, I ordered the half big breakfast for what I got was worth the price. Very tasty and filled a hole. Coffee was hot and delicious I'll be back.

Breakfast here two mornings this week. Poached eggs on toast with mushrooms. Mushrooms were big, juicy and cooked to perfection. The coffee I thought was next level. Good welcoming atmosphere. Recommended if in the vicinity. Back again, May 2023 👍🏼

Had an afternoon tea break here after a walk in Queens Park. Ordered an Iced Matcha Latte and an Iced Mocha. The Iced Mocha was good. However, the Iced Matcha Latte was very blend with little taste. Nonetheless, a great place to stop for a rest while catching a beverage and snack.

A perfect place to refresh and relax after a blustery walk around Queens Park. Really yummy salmon quiche with homemade buttery pastry. Great coffee. Humming with lots of happy customers.

I got beef nachos which were almost $30, they had a ring of chips around the edge of a small bowl which was insufficient to mix with salsa.i could not see any mince at all in the mix. I thought they had accidentally given me a vegetarian version.when I asked about it, they told me the mince was chopped up very fine. Upon further inspection, I concluded that the closest a cow came to being involved with my meal was the dairy content of the sour cream or maybe living in a field next to the factory were my 10 corn chips were made. Depressing meal.

Edit from 2* to 4*: I was offered a new milkshake. Which was better than the 1st one. Excellent service and customer care! — original review — The Soda-Cream milkshake is not good. It’s not even cold… The cappuccino is average. The stars are for the friendly service.
