Amir Chaghmagh Complex is a 1400s structure in Iran, featuring a stunning three-storey facade with sunken arched alcoves. The late afternoon sunlight beautifully illuminates the copper-colored alcoves, creating a captivating sight against the darkening sky. At night, the illuminated fountains and new arcades add to the splendid vista. While only the 1st floor is accessible, it's an architectural marvel that looks great at any time of day.
Amir Chakhmaq complex is a beautiful historical complex in Yazd. Its eye-catching architecture and delicate tilework are worth seeing. It has a nice atmosphere and is suitable for a visit and introduction to traditional Iranian architecture. If you travel to Yazd, pay it a visit.

Amir Chakhmagh Square is the historical and cultural center of Yazd, Iran. Built during the Timurid era, this huge complex includes a busy market, a magnificent mosque, a traditional teahouse, two cisterns, and a colossal square, all of which are integrated to form the city's pulsating heart. The square is impressive in and of itself. Its huge central pool, embellished with fine statuary, and the towering architecture of the surrounding buildings create a tranquil and enchanting ambiance. For generations, the plaza has been a popular gathering area for people, holding a variety of community activities and festivals. The mosque, at the core of the compound, is an Islamic architectural marvel known for its delicate tile work and high minarets. The bazaar, a maze of small lanes and busy shops, provides an insight into the city's extensive economic history. Cisterns, also known as ab-anbars, are subterranean reservoirs that previously provided fresh water to the city. The Amir Chakhmagh complex embodies Yazd's eternal character. Over the ages, it has undergone several renovations and restorations to ensure its preservation for future generations. Despite these alterations, the complex has maintained its original charm and character. For Yazd residents, the square has long represented togetherness and community. It is a location where people from all walks of life gather to meet, pray, and rejoice. The yearly mourning processions during Muharram, which end in the transport of a giant wooden tableau known as a ta'zieh, are a particularly moving indication of the square's importance in the lives of the locals.
Pegah E — Google review
It was a beautiful place. It was crowded with many people at night, but there were no people at all in the morning, so I was able to enjoy the scenery all to myself.

A historical square in Yazd, with a local bazaar and old town around it. Yazd has the largest ancient mud brick city in the world, and it is still active until now. Also known as The City of Windcatcher, where you'll find almost all of the ancient houses have these structures. As Yazd is a desert city with a hot climate, the Windcatcher will filter some air into the house and make the house cooler, just like an ancient Air Conditioner. You'll see even the fresco style is distinctive, with more use in colour yellow-brown, highlighting their desert location. Go visit the local shop to buy some Termeh, Yazd signature products. This can be used as table cloths or table runners.

Amir Chakhmaq Square is one of the most famous tourist places in Yazd and is considered one of the historical squares of the country, which shines like a gem in the old context of this city. This square, which contains many attractions from the market to the mosque and the mosque, is considered an excellent option for tourism; Especially during the night, which presents a very beautiful landscape in front of you. The most attractive part of this square is its three-storied building that attracts the attention of tourists before any other attraction.

The Yazd Amir Chakhmaq Complex is nothing short of breathtaking! As the sun sets, the square comes alive with a vibrant energy. Locals and visitors alike stroll through the area, soaking in the enchanting atmosphere. The centerpiece of the complex is its stunning fountains, illuminated with a mesmerizing array of colors that reflect the rich culture and artistry of Iran. Sitting by these fountains in the cool evening air, surrounded by the intricate architecture and the warm hospitality of the people, is an experience that stays with you forever. Visiting Yazd in the spring of 2024 was a true delight-Iran’s beauty is unparalleled, and this historic gem is a testament to its timeless charm.

The Clock Tower, a prominent tourist spot, boasts several notable structures nearby such as Seyed Roknedin School and a historic water reservoir. Once housing an ancient observatory constructed in 725 AH and a timepiece, these architectural marvels held significant importance during their era. The Clock Tower itself showcases magnificent Iranian-style architecture and stands adjacent to the mosque.
Yazd Clock Square, located opposite the Grand Mosque, is one of the city’s busiest and most central points. The square is known for its beautiful clock tower, built in the early 20th century, and showcases a blend of traditional Iranian and European architecture. As a social hub, the Clock Square is a gathering place for locals and tourists, and is surrounded by shops, teahouses, and cafes. It is also the site of local events and celebrations, and can be the starting point for a fascinating journey into the history and culture of Yazd.

Al-Saat Square or Clock Square, Yazd, is considered one of the oldest clock towers in Iran and the world, and according to historical sources, it is the first urban clock in Iran. The construction of this clock tower dates back to the Qajar period, and the arches and arches, brick decorations and tiles engraved with lines of verses, etc. have given it a special effect. This square is directly opposite the street that leads to Yazd Grand Mosque. And it has a special effect at sunset.

Just infront of the Masjed Jame's street there is a tower with clock! In my opinion there is not something very special. Yes the tower itself is nice one but compare to the orher beautiful structures in this city this is not very attractive. Anyhow I thing two windcatcher adjacent this tower are more attractive.

The Jameh Mosque of Yazd, a 14th-century Azeri-style Shia mosque, is a stunning architectural masterpiece located in the heart of the Iranian desert in Yazd province. Originally built as a fire temple during the Sassanid Era, it was later transformed into a mosque and underwent reconstruction over different periods.

Jame Mosque of Yazd, one of the most important and historical central buildings of Yazd city, was created from the combination of three different mosques during historical periods. This mosque, which is known as one of the main sightseeing and historical places of Yazd, has a very long history with the passage of about 900 years since its construction. Jame Mosque of Yazd is a very spectacular place and one of the important attractions of Yazd city. Visiting hours are from 9 am to 5 pm. It is necessary to wear Islamic clothing.
Mahdiyeh Z — Google review
I visited the Jameh Mosque of Yazd a few days ago, and I was absolutely amazed! This mosque, with its stunning architecture, is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in Yazd. The tall minarets (the highest in Iran) and the blue tilework are breathtaking from a distance. Inside, it’s so peaceful—the large courtyard with a pool in the middle, and the intricate ceiling and mihrab decorations are incredible. The history is fascinating too; this mosque has been standing since the 12th century and was renovated during different eras like the Safavid and Qajar periods. If you’re traveling to Yazd, you have to visit this place—especially at sunset when the lighting makes it even more beautiful. Just a heads up, Yazd can get very hot in summer (up to 46°C), so it’s better to go after 6:30 PM and bring sunscreen.

Though I've seen so many places all over Iran with breathtaking designs and architecture that appeal to the eyes, this one is quite unique. Definitely worth visiting and better to spend some time enjoying the beauty of it. I advise visiting it both in the morning and in the evening to see observe it with different lightning. Besides, there is a bookshop inside offering a variety of English books of Persian literature.

This is a special mosque which is located in Yazd province. It is decorated with very nice tile workings and turquoise-blue colors.Minarates are so nice and ceilingis covered by different adjectives of God.The Jameh Mosque (congregational mosque) Yazd is one of the oldest mosques in Iran, with a history spanning over 900 years. The mosque’s foundations were built on a Sassanian fire temple, the dome chamber dates back to the Ilkhanid period, the grand entrance was constructed during the reign of Shahrukh Timurid, and some constructions and renovations were carried out during the Safavid and Qajar periods. This mosque features minarets that are 52 meters high, making them the tallest minarets in Iran, adorned with turquoise tiles and beautiful geometric patterns. The mosque’s prayer hall has stone columns and domed ceilings decorated with intricate mosaic tiles and muqarnas. The Ilkhanid mihrab of the mosque is also adorned with mosaic tiles and Quranic inscriptions. Throughout the mosque, there are numerous inscriptions in Kufic and Naskh scripts displaying Quranic verses and prophetic traditions. These inscriptions are decorated with turquoise and lapis lazuli tiles. Beneath the mosque’s courtyard, there is a section of the Zarch Qanat, which is over 2500 years old and one of the longest qanats in the world.

It's a Beautiful place to walk around, shop and eat different things. But the only thing that is a nuisance is cars and motor cycles are allowed to go through some parts of it which makes it difficult to relax while walking besides the fact that they destroy the air in an enclosed area. It's only a small portion. Go visit and shop for beautiful fabrics and yellow gold from Yazd, of course.

Markar Square, also known as Ferdowsi Clock, is situated at the heart of Iran. Adjacent to this prominent square lie notable structures including a high school and an orphanage. These remarkable landmarks were funded and constructed by Mr. Markar, a Zoroastrian benefactor. The cafe's flavorful and high-quality lentil soup has garnered a loyal following, with many patrons visiting regularly solely for this dish. An interesting and delicious local breakfast. Only the omelette is a little peppery and the Qorme Nimro is a little oily.

This restaurant provides the standard food and most of the staffs can’t speak English. Luckily, there’s a English menu. The restaurant is clean but the toilet is quite dirty. The restaurant is hidden inside the bazzar(walk for a minute, you will see the signage and turn right).

The staff was extremely rude and confusing — they had no idea what they were doing. The place itself was dirty and uncomfortable. We waited far too long, and even after we ordered, they canceled it without reason. Our food eventually showed up cold on the table, completely ruined. They clearly didn’t understand what we wanted, and didn’t care either. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Total waste of time and money.

Cafè Nardoon

Cafe
Nardoon is a charming cafe with both traditional and stylish atmosphere that is popular among locals and tourists alike. It offers both indoor seating and beds on the roof for eating, with amazing views of Yazd's architecture. The coffee there is generally of poor quality, but the setting makes it an interesting place to visit.
Nardoon Café in Yazd was an absolute delight. The ambiance, design, and peaceful energy of the place harmonized seamlessly—but the highlight of my visit was witnessing the sunset. Sitting on the rooftop, witnessing the sun gradually descend over the adobe rooftops of Yazd, was an unforgettable experience. The city’s breathtaking view from above was a mesmerizing blend of calm, golden hues, and an aura of soul. If you find yourself in Yazd, do not miss this gem. Visit in the evening, indulge in a drink, and let the city’s beauty envelop you.

Really enjoyed the location and view in a winter sunset. Food quality is acceptable but not the best in its class.
Vahid M — Google review
I had heard many praises about this cafe restaurant and that's why I decided to go to Nardon Cafe in the evening to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Of course, the cafe is on the second floor and has beautiful traditional tables and provides you with a great atmosphere. And the staff behaves very politely and respectfully, the price of the menu is a little higher than the normal part, and at the end, the tax or value added will also be included, which is unfair in my opinion, and in the last case, even for my drink, a container or The plate was not placed which is a sign of unprofessionalism or forgetfulness of the staff which cannot be ignored but overall worth a try.

I was there for sunset. The view of terrace and design of cafe itself are great. They were playing nice music as well. I paid like 500k tumen for one coffe, tea, sheesha, water and chocolate cake. I higly recommend the cafe for anyone and everyone

Restaurant
Khan-e-Dohad is an excellent eatery that offers a delightful and genuine environment. It comes highly recommended due to its ability to serve food during Ramadan, catering to both locals and tourists. This traditional restaurant provides a variety of mouthwatering dishes, such as juicy chicken kebabs that are perfectly cooked. The venue itself exudes charm and is particularly known for its tasty lamb knee and kebabs.
Very nice place to eat. Very tasty kebab and lamb knee. Just one thing: tiramisu should go with Amareto inside:-)

I had my breakfast yesterday there. I found dirty dishes, poor quality food, angry personnel, high noisy boring music and expensive prices. I prefer a tree shadow and bread for breakfast in a calm happy environment! I don't like to recommend this restaurant to any Iranian or tourist guests. Try another one!

Never go to this hotel. It's the dirtiest place in the world. The room is so small that you can't even move 4 steps. Considering the quality of services it is so much expensive. No table, no chair, no bedsheets, no enough space to change clothes and a lot of other such "No"s. Never never never waste your money for this hotel.

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Yazd, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Alexander's Prison. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

The Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Yazd, also known as Atash Bahram, is a significant site for Zoroastrians. The temple houses the sacred and ancient fire that has been burning for over 1500 years, making it the only Atash Bahram in Iran. This columned temple was built in 1934 and features a courtyard with an elegant garden and pond. Unlike many places of worship, the temple's architecture is characterized by its simplicity.
In Yazd fire Temple, the old holy fire of Zoroastrians is kept. They don't worship fire but it's very important for them. You feel it's a piece of heaven which purifies all the dirt and bad energy in it. The peaceful music of Zoroastrian language adds to the holy atmosphere. The gallery building next to that shows the lifestyle and ceremonies of Zoroastrians.
Sh H — Google review
I was fascinated by the Zoroastrian religion and was very excited to see what it had to offer. But to be honest, for an entrance fee of 3,500,000 rial (as of April 2025), I expected more. The fee is the same as that of Persepolis, and while I understand the significance of this site, this is just my honest opinion. The path to the side building — the one with the panels and mannequins — wasn’t clearly marked, so it was easy to miss. There was another museum (the Museum of Manuscripts), and that one is much more recommendable.
Sophia P — Google review
Can stay here all day to meditate, calm and reflect myself. Holy energy place, indeed. Exhibit in the next building also educational with functional design, good curation work, well done!
Bob C — Google review
The Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Yazd is one of the most significant religious sites, home to a sacred fire that has been burning for over 1,500 years. The architecture, inspired by the Achaemenid style, and the serene garden create a peaceful atmosphere. Informative displays and friendly staff enhance the visit. The entrance fee is relatively affordable compared to other attractions in Yazd. However, during Nowruz, the site can get quite crowded. Also, visitors can only view the sacred fire from behind a glass partition, as entry to the inner sanctum is not allowed. If you're interested in ancient Persian history and culture, this is a must-see destination.
Milad F — Google review
Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Yazd: Eternal Flame of an Ancient Faith. The Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Yazd, known as Atashkadeh, is one of the most sacred sites for Zoroastrians in Iran. Located in the heart of Yazd, the temple houses a fire believed to have been burning continuously for over 1,500 years. This fire, known as the Atash Bahram (Fire of Victory), is one of the nine highest-grade sacred fires in the Zoroastrian tradition and was transferred to Yazd from Ardakan in 1934. The temple's architecture reflects elements of Achaemenid and Sassanian styles, with a serene garden, a central pool, and a brick building adorned with the Faravahar symbol above its entrance. Inside, the sacred fire is housed in a bronze container within a glass-enclosed chamber, viewable by visitors but accessible only to Zoroastrian priests who tend to it daily. Fire, in Zoroastrianism, symbolizes purity, truth, and the divine presence of Ahura Mazda. The temple serves not only as a place of worship but also as a cultural center for the Zoroastrian community, preserving rituals, teachings, and identity in a predominantly Islamic society. Open to visitors of all backgrounds, the Fire Temple offers a rare glimpse into one of the world’s oldest monotheistic religions, still practiced by a small but resilient community in Yazd.
Lefteris S — Google review
Fantastic fire temple The fire is 1500+ years old and certainly worth to visit The fee for locals is 50000 tomans While for foreigners it's 350000 tomans 7 times more Which isn't a good pricing
Amir D — Google review
If this is your first time visiting this area remember my tips 👇 1-Entry and Costs: - A small entry fee ($1-2 USD equivalent in rials) is charged for foreign visitors. Have cash in Iranian rials, as cards are rarely accepted. - Tickets include access to the temple grounds and museum. 2-Best Time to Visit: - Season: Spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November) offer pleasant weather, as Yazd’s desert climate can be scorching in summer (July-August) or chilly in winter. - Time of Day: Early morning (8:00-10:00 AM) for fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, or late afternoon for softer light ideal for photography. - The temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, but hours may vary during Zoroastrian festivals like Nowruz (Persian New Year in March). 3-What to Expect: - Main Attraction: The sacred fire, visible through a glass window in a chamber above a pool, is tended by a priest. Non-Zoroastrians cannot enter the fire chamber but can view it from outside. - Museum: A small on-site museum displays Zoroastrian artifacts, scriptures (e.g., Avesta), traditional clothing, and explanations of rituals, offering insight into the religion’s history. - Faravahar Symbol: Look for the iconic winged symbol above the entrance, representing Zoroastrian values of good thoughts, words, and deeds. - Courtyard: A serene garden with a pool provides a peaceful spot for reflection and photos. 4-Understand the Significance: - The temple is a place of worship for Zoroastrians, centered around the sacred fire, which symbolizes purity and divinity. The fire is tended by priests and never extinguished. - Learn basic Zoroastrian principles (e.g., reverence for fire, water, and nature) to appreciate the site’s cultural and spiritual context. 5-Cultural Events and Festivals: - If visiting during Nowruz (March 21) or Sadeh (a fire festival in late January), expect larger crowds and special Zoroastrian rituals. Contact the temple in advance to confirm access during these times. - Engaging with local Zoroastrian guides during festivals can provide deeper insights into traditions. -Why Visit? The Yazd Fire Temple offers a unique window into Zoroastrianism, one of the world’s oldest religions, and Yazd’s role as a center for this ancient faith. Its serene atmosphere, historical significance, and architectural simplicity make it a must-visit, especially when paired with Yazd’s other cultural gems.

Nestled near Markar Square and the Varahram Fire Temple, the Zoroastrians History and Culture Museum, often referred to as the Markar Museum, serves as a remarkable portal into the ancient world of Zoroastrianism. This museum invites visitors on an enchanting journey through time, showcasing the vibrant traditions and ceremonies that define this age-old faith. As you wander through its historical corridors, you'll encounter mannequins adorned in traditional attire alongside captivating photographs that capture significant moments from history.
The circulation that they made there was very interesting for me. You enter the main door and you get a good look at view and then you can see the 1500 year old fire from entering the building and then it's the museum part and done.

Visitors can explore old clay houses, enjoy refreshments at the cafe, browse an art gallery, and shop for local souvenirs.
The food quality is really good. Specially Chicken+walnut. The atmosphere and the vibe is superb. The service could be a bit better. You'll have a perfect view of the sunset. Favorite spot in the city.

Here is a popular place among the traditional part of Yazd city. The roof has a perfect view of the whole city and it will be awsome to watching sunset. Food and drinks quality is medium level. Staff are polite. There is an art gallery on the entrance and you could buy some souvenirs here but I recommend you to go and buy from other souvenir's shop on the way. If you only want to sightseeing the roof, you have to pay for the ticket.

Went up to catch the sunset, but the sky was too cloudy. Since dining or having tea includes access to the viewpoint, we decided to have dinner instead of paying the entrance fee. The food was a bit expensive, but the taste was fine. It was busy, and the staff were… neutral. Not rude, not warm — just doing their job. Might be worth a visit on a clear day when the view makes the experience feel more special.

This cafe has a great view of the old town, and is very beautiful inside itself. The vibe is great too. The food is okay, but nothing special. The only thing I didn`t like was that they charge for 'just-looking'. So if you go there only for the view (without ordering anything), you will be charged (the price for foreigners is 3 times more that for Iranians).

This bar/restaurant offers excellent traditional Iranian dishes. Moreover if you visit the place at the time of sunset, you have a stunning view from the roof of the house over Yazd and the mountains at the horizon. Alexander's Prison, also known as Iskandar Prison, is a historical site in Yazd, Iran that dates back to the 15th century. Restaurant
Fooka, a restaurant in Yazd, caters to both foreign/Italian and traditional Iranian cuisine. Their diverse menu satisfies different tastes, ensuring an unforgettable dining experience. Customers praise the delicious food and its quality. The terrace offers a remarkable view for evening meals, enhancing the overall enjoyment. The crew demonstrates excellent service, hospitality, and behavior towards guests while being well-organized and attentive. However, some feel that the prices are too high for the food served.
One of the good cafes in the old neighborhoods of Yazd is located on Imam Street, near the Jame Mosque. After a short walk, you’ll reach this cozy spot. The staff are friendly, and I visit often. Last time, I ordered pizza, which was delicious as always. Prices are reasonable. The seating area includes indoor spaces, a courtyard, and a rooftop with a partial view of the city. The food quality is good, and I recommend trying it if you’re in Yazd.

Shooleh was a nice starter with a different taste/ Gheymeh was a really delicious version of this food and we enjoyed it so much.
Aysan A — Google review
A restaurant in the centre with a nice atmosphere on a rooftop area designed with a comfy area to sit and dine where you can view the square and the famous Jameh mosque. We had pizza with fries and juices which were okay. The prices belong to summer 2022.
Esra Ç — Google review
Tourist trap. The restaurant itself is fairly pleasant, but the food was poor and expensive. The mast-o khiar was plain yogurt with dried mint just sprinkled on top, with a squelch of old cucumber pulp. The salad shirazi was mushy and too acidic. The koobideh was small and strange. The rice, hard to get wrong in Iran, was ok and so was the joojeh. There are better restaurants in Yazd.
Dan A — Google review
The food was good, and we liked the atmosphere. It was a pity we couldn't eat out because of the hot weather! We were four people and we got kebobs.
Roxan M — Google review
Food is fantastic! We ordered veggie soup, camel stew and meshed grilled eggplants which are super good. Mint lemonade is so refreshing. Highly recommend.
Charlotte L — Google review
There were some insects on our table which is acceptable when you're sitting in an open area but when you find an insect in your bread package, it's awful! And the food wasn't anything special.
Sanaz H — Google review
The taste and quality of the food were good. The terras view in the evening while enjoying my dinner was an remarkable experience. The service, hospitality and behaviour of the crew were pleasing. They were well-organized and attentive to their guests. The only lesser point in my opinion was the food being overpriced. My advise is to visit this restaurant whenever you visit Yazd in Iran.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Zoroastrians Towers of Silence. Not quite as popular as Yazd Grand Mosque, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Ancient Ruins
The Zoroastrians Towers of Silence, located on the hills surrounding Yazd, are a significant example of Zoroastrian beliefs and practices. These structures were historically used for the disposal of corpses according to Zoroastrian tradition. The practice involved leaving the bodies exposed to scavenging birds as a means of preventing contamination of the sacred elements, earth, and fire. Once stripped of flesh, the remaining bones were placed in a central well within the structure.
You can experience deep silence here. Steps are standard and not too much. I walked uphill slowly, and it took me 15 minutes to climb. There are two Dakhmeh there.
Qadir A — Google review
Indeed more than sunset. Good maintaining, clear informations provided and non disturbing scene exhibits. Nice space you can't miss in Yazd.
Bob C — Google review
This is where Zoroastrians used to bring the dead and leave them to be eaten by vultures, and the bones would be dissolved by acid in the hole in the center of the tower. The buildings down there were the temporary houses for the ceremonies, because this place was far from the city. Nowadays, they bury the dead in the cemetery near the towers. One of the towers is maintained and has stairs to reach, and the other one is almost ruined.
MohammadReza Y — Google review
A must visit in yazd you can see most of the city from top Cons : a lot of graphity in the historical buildings it's as if nobody cares
Amir D — Google review
The Zoroastrian crypt, which is also known as the Tower of Silence and the Tower of Silence, is located 15 kilometers southeast of Yazd on the crypt mountain. This crypt is one of the signs of the ancient customs of Zoroastrians, which is related to the burial ceremony of their dead; official that is obsolete today; But it has left a memory. This historical work is considered among the national works of Iran. I recommend to visit this place at morning.
Mo A — Google review
Very hot in the morning. But worth a visit
W. L — Google review
One of the place that I found worth seeing the most in Iran. Quite impressive and teaches a lot about some values. Must learn about its history before visiting. It's good to learn about opening-closing times as well.
Merve E — Google review
Abandoned places of Zoroastrian sky-burial. Here the Zoroastrians of Yazd would bring their dead to be eaten by vultures in accordance with their ancient customs. There are two towers, both are accessible, but tower on the smaller hill is more accessible for those who only wish to see one. There are decaying mud-brick structures at the base of the hills that are worth visiting also. The towers have been abandoned since the days of the Pahlavi Dynasty, so they can be visited without fear of offending any religious sentiments. There is not much to see when one climbs to the top of the hills, but if you have an interest in Zoroastrianism, this is probably a place that you must visit.

Museum
The Museum of Light and Illumination in Iran is a remarkable institution showcasing an extensive collection of ancient mirrors and other historical artifacts. The museum's exhibits are meticulously preserved, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty of these items. The ceilings within the museum are particularly enchanting, adding to the overall allure of the experience. Adjacent to the museum is a fabric factory that is also worth exploring. The dedicated staff at this establishment are known for their exceptional hospitality, knowledge, and professionalism.
A very nice museum which has lots of old equipment that are placed in an old beautiful house with nice design all around the house. The museum also has a guide to explain everything and is open from the morning to the afternoon. And you won't be able to take any bags or extra things inside.
MohammadReza Y — Google review

You should explore Yazd carefully. Historical monuments are historical evidence, not written down or censored by the ruler of the time. The authentic Iranian civilization and culture is worth seeing in Yazd.
Mohamad D — Google review
I have visited many museums in different cities in Iran, but this museum had interesting things for me that I had not seen anywhere else. At the beginning of the entry, each person was given a shoe cover, no one was allowed to bring a bag into the museum, and everyone had to give their mobile phone to the museum official for inspection. After we passed through the machine and entered the museum grounds. The environment was very clean and fragrant, and the people working in the museum were trained and knowledgeable, and if needed, they provided the necessary explanations. This museum was very interesting. There were very precious and valuable items kept there that I had not seen in other similar museums. The museum was amazing in places. It used to be the home of a person named Reza Sarafzadeh, who was a great businessman in Yazd, and it was a very interesting and spectacular place. The whole time I was there, I was thinking that I wish all the museums and historical sites of my beloved country Iran were full of foreign tourists so that the treasures of Iran could be shown to the whole world. Hoping for that day 🤍🙏🏽✨

Saheb Al-Zaman Zurkhaneh, located in the historical city of Yazd, is a unique attraction that offers a glimpse into ancient Persian sports. The building, resembling a standing egg from the inside and crowned with five badgirs, was originally a water reservoir built in 1580. Today, it serves as a zurkhaneh where gentlemen practice an ancient sport using heavy wooden clubs to build muscle.
At the Zurkaneh gym men of all ages, from young boys to elderly men, come to exercise. The gym tools all look like middle-age weapons, such as bows and shields. One man, sitting outside the gym floor, sings and plays the drums. He gives the rythm to do the different exercises. You can see these performances between 17:00 and 20:00.
Paul M — Google review
Really interesting and beautiful in a way. A traditional Persian training initially for soldiers. When the Arabs invaded Persia these centres served as secret meeting places to keep soldiers trained. Dont forget to see the water supply underneath! Just follow the signs, to the stairs below the stand of the musicians.
JR S — Google review
Really enjoyed the local sports performance. It is quite touristic though. In addition it is possible to take a look at the water reservoir, which is under the place.
Laurynas G — Google review
You can see the ancient sport of Zirkaneh here. They are very welcoming and interesting. 100,000 Rials for entry also includes a look down at the old water reservoir underneath.
Tim C — Google review
It was my first time being at a Zurkhaneh which is a kind of a traditional Iranian gym. This one used to be a water supply in the past then Zurkhaneh was built above it some years ago. Now you can visit the old water supply and their performance. Just make sure to check their performance times and then give there a visit.
Mona M — Google review
It was always a dream for me to see the oldest and traditional sport of our culture but unfortunately the ladies weren't allowed to but here they let every one in to see the show. Amazing
Homa M — Google review
For sure visit it specially at night to visit the old Iranian gym(zour xaneh). But by the architecture alone it's more beautiful from outside than inside. Downstairs you'll see the deepest water houses in Iran.

Nestled in the heart of Yazd, Papasi Cafe is a charming spot that invites you to unwind and savor delightful culinary creations. This cozy two-story establishment features both indoor and semi-outdoor seating, making it an ideal place for friends, family, or solo visitors to relax. The cafe boasts a diverse menu with options for breakfast through dinner, showcasing beautifully presented dishes that reflect the care put into their preparation.
Best coffee in Yazd. A bit pricey but the quality justifies it. The ambiance is nice modern in the most historical part of old town.
Mehdi S — Google review
I love the design of this tiny cosy cafe. It has 2 floors and a semi outdoor table plan. The mocktail options are plenty, and the presentation is really beautiful. The choice for the background music is outstanding. Ordered a tiramisu and it was more like a coffee cake, it needs to be much softer with more cream and less "cakey" 😂 The waiters are also just kind of forget about us and didn't come to take the order despite pressing the service button multiple times. However, if you're in Yazd and you don't feel like having something traditional, do pay this place a visit.

A very beautiful and peaceful place to relax and spend time with your friends, and family, or even alone! Friendly helping staff and tasty food and beverages. I have tried breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner and I can say I lived them all. The design of the food is great and I love it when the chef and barista put time into decorating the food and beverage 🍻 I highly recommend this place. You can go and enjoy your time when you travel to Yazd. Or even if you are a resident of Yazd.

A beautiful cafe with kind staff. The quality of the food here is top notch, and the prices although leaning toward the expensive side, are fair. I liked this place and will return to this place every chance I get.

This is where those types hang where they feel they’re too cool for school. The patrons are very much self-possesses and judgey, but our server was both warm and professional. My experience of Western food in Iran hasn’t always been great so I tempered my expectations. My mini cheeseburger was tasty and satisfies when you want a break from Persian cuisine. The pasta will do in a pinch. The mocktails are tasty but very sweet so you won’t need any dessert. Perplexed why this cafe is named after a Romanian dessert which does not feature in its menu. Come with your smartphone powered up as you’ll need it peruse the menu.

Italian restaurant
I visited Dragon, an Italian restaurant, a decade ago during a road trip with my family. Since then, I've consistently praised the excellent cuisine and impeccable service. Even now, living in the United States, I continue to rave about the friendly staff and delectable food they offer, especially their scrumptious pizza dough. However, some aspects of the experience were not as impressive. The variety of drinks and sides was limited and lacked flavor.
I recently had the pleasure of enjoying some truly delicious food, which included an assortment of mouth-watering Italian dishes and an especially standout pizza. The flavors and quality of the ingredients were exceptional, and I was thoroughly impressed by the overall experience. If you're looking for a satisfying meal, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try!

Persian restaurant
Negin is a popular restaurant located in Abadeh, offering a variety of Iranian dishes and kebabs. It is known for its great food and polite waitstaff. Visitors highly recommend trying the Ghafghazi kebab and traditional Iranian dishes like cow neck and rice. The restaurant is praised for its delicious and authentic Iranian cuisine, fast service, and affordable prices. In addition to self-service salad and soup, Negin also offers a delectable sauce that patrons rave about.
My family and I went to a restaurant with a roof garden. We took the elevator to get to the top floor. When we arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and showed us to our table with respect. We ordered a roast beef pizza, and it took about 20 minutes to arrive. While we waited, we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The place was beautifully decorated with flowers and plants, and there was soft, light music playing. The food was delicious, and the staff was very professional and friendly. We really loved the experience and will definitely come again!

Negin Restaurant, located in Yazd, offers a delightful taste of traditional Iranian cuisine with a focus on flavor, comfort, and cultural atmosphere. If you're visiting Yazd and looking to enjoy authentic local dishes, Negin is a solid choice that blends quality food with a welcoming environment. The highlight of Negin Restaurant is undoubtedly its food. Every dish is full of rich, well-balanced flavors that reflect the culinary traditions of the region. From hearty stews and saffron-infused rice to delicious kebabs and fresh herbs, the meals here are prepared with care and authenticity. Whether you're a fan of traditional Persian dishes or new to Iranian cuisine, you'll likely find something that suits your taste. The ambiance is relatively pleasant, combining casual comfort with touches of traditional décor. It may not be luxurious, but the space is clean, calm, and fitting for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The service is decent—while not extraordinary, the waitstaff are generally polite and attentive. Orders are taken in a timely manner, and the food is served warm and fresh. You may not receive top-tier fine-dining service, but for a mid-range restaurant in Yazd, it meets expectations. Overall, Negin Restaurant is a great spot for a satisfying and flavorful meal, offering good value and a chance to enjoy Persian hospitality and dishes. It’s especially recommended for travelers who want a comfortable and genuine culinary experience without overly touristy settings.

Lari House is one of the most beautiful historical buildings in Yazd, bringing the past to life. Its traditional architecture, with colorful windows, delicate stucco designs, and tall windcatchers, is truly captivating. The way light filters through the stained glass creates a dreamy atmosphere. The central courtyard and its blue pool add to the peaceful vibe. Originally home to a merchant, it is now a museum showcasing Yazd’s rich culture and history. If you love traditional architecture and nostalgic spaces, this place is definitely worth a visit.

The House of Lari is considered among the historical monuments and places of interest in Yazd, which welcomes many tourists from all over Iran and the world every year. Lariha house includes 6 houses with the special architecture of desert houses, which is located in Fahadan neighborhood and gives you the opportunity to explore the old streets of the city. If you have seen any of the traditional houses in Kashan, this one is not worth visiting. It’s much smaller and less impressive. To make it worse, the crowds of people visiting detract from the experience even more.

The 150-year-old Lari House, built in 19th century by Hadji Mohammad Ibrahim Lari, is one of the best-preserved Qajar-era houses in Yazd. The family used this building as a house for Dervishes of the Ne’mat-o-Allahi order in the past. The badgirs, traditional doors, stained-glass windows, elegant archways and alcoves mark it out as one of the city’s grandest homes. The merchant family who built it have long gone, and it is now home to architecture students and cultural heritage officers. It has a charming atmosphere with a large pool in the central courtyard over which sits a huge, gently disintegrating wooden takht (Throne).
Sama S — Google review
To be honest it’s not amazing like other houses but not bad to visit it. Don’t visit at night because is no body there to explain about the house and most of the lights were off.

Rain House is a historic building in Yazd that has been transformed into a tourist accommodation and café. The rooftop café offers a spectacular view of the historical structure and the neighborhood. Despite some feedback about slow service, visitors appreciate the kind owners and the lovely atmosphere of the old building. The rooftop provides an exceptional vantage point to admire the beauty of Yazd, making it perfect for photography or simply enjoying a peaceful moment, especially during sunset.
“Yazd Rain House” is more than a cafe or house. The rooftop is one of the best. Atmosphere is lovely. Cafe and cafe man Taha or Nikta are the best. I love their traditional food especially Qormeh or DoPiazeh! Many of my passengers interested in staying in Rain house Ecologe or hostel. I've been there for eating breakfast and it was really cozy and quiet. The breakfast was good in taste and they let me sit there for hours. Historical complex of Yazd

4.7
(101)
The Historical Complex of Yazd is a captivating gem that spans approximately 700 hectares, showcasing one of Iran's oldest and most well-preserved residential areas. As you wander through its narrow adobe alleys and charming Sabbats, you'll feel as if you've stepped back in time to the era of the Silk Road. This area is not only rich in history but also serves as a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors eager to explore its unique architecture and cultural heritage.
The best and biggest historical urban fabric that I ever seen. There are Very calm and to some extent safe places.
Hamidreza M — Google review
Historical Complex of Yazd – A Living Heritage in the Desert. The Historical Complex of Yazd, located in central Iran, is one of the most remarkable examples of desert urban architecture. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017, the old city represents a living, breathing record of Persian culture, adapted to harsh environmental conditions. Narrow alleys, earthen buildings, and interconnected neighborhoods form a unique, cohesive fabric. Yazd’s architecture is shaped by its desert climate. The use of adobe bricks, thick walls, and badgirs (windcatchers) helps cool homes without modern systems. The city’s qanat system, an underground water channel network, supports life and irrigation in the dry terrain. These innovations show how architecture and sustainability were intertwined centuries ago. Religious diversity adds to the city’s identity. Yazd has long been a center of Zoroastrianism, with sacred fire temples and Towers of Silence, alongside beautiful Islamic mosques, shrines, and madrasas. The city reflects peaceful coexistence between communities through the ages. Today, the historical complex is not a museum but a living city, where people continue to inhabit the old quarters. Preservation efforts aim to maintain its authenticity, while tourism introduces the world to Yazd’s timeless charm and wisdom in adapting tradition to environment. It's a true jewel of Iranian heritage.
Lefteris S — Google review
The historical part of Yazd city has a complex and defensive structure. Nested and sometimes roofed alleys with houses in unexpected places and thatched walls. A big piece of history that stands out in the middle of the desert. If you visit this place, be sure to save your original location in your phone before getting lost in its streets. Because it is almost impossible to get from the previous point without the help of a guide or a map! Because of this, you may lose your parking place.

Yazd's Old City is a treasure trove of history and architectural wonders. The iconic Amir Chakhmaq Mosque stands tall, with its stunning sunken alcoves that come alive in the evening light. The city's ancient towers and fortifications are testaments to the Yazidi people's ingenuity in protecting their homes.

Old City of Yazd – A Desert City of Timeless Innovation. The Old City of Yazd, located in central Iran, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and a remarkable example of desert urban planning. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, Yazd showcases centuries of adaptation to harsh climatic conditions through its ingenious architecture and infrastructure. Built primarily from sun-dried mudbrick, the city’s narrow alleys, domed roofs, and thick walls help regulate temperature and protect against desert winds. One of Yazd’s most iconic features is its badgirs (windcatchers), traditional ventilation towers that cool indoor spaces without electricity. The ancient qanat system—underground channels that transport water from distant mountains—ensured sustainable irrigation and drinking water for generations. Yazd’s skyline is dotted with adobe buildings, minarets, and Zoroastrian fire temples, reflecting its cultural and religious diversity. The city was a historic center for Zoroastrianism and remains home to one of the oldest Zoroastrian communities in the world. Still inhabited and thriving, the Old City preserves a sense of continuity and identity. Its blend of practicality, aesthetics, and spiritual heritage offers a living testimony to Iranian ingenuity—making Yazd a truly unique and enduring symbol of life in the desert.

The old city is exactly old but the people are new, it looks like old city and it is really old, government paying people to not distroy the old structure of the city, and let it be this way, some of the streets are full of lights some are empty, usually people change their houses to restaurants, cafés, or night stay for foreigners or those who come from other cities there are shops too to buy some antique bracelets... Yazdi Qahwa don't forget it. It's sweet.

Imamzadeh Shahzad Fazel is a historical complex in Yazd, dating back to the Timurid era. The sanctuary features an ornate facade adorned with intricate mirror work and elegant paintings, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Visitors can explore the mausoleum and shrine of Shahzad Fazel, experiencing a tranquil atmosphere filled with reverence for the revered figure interred within.

(Translated by Google) Inside the building of Imamzadeh, there is a grave, and an inscription made of marble tiles from the Timurid period is installed on it, which introduces the owner of the tomb of Prince Fazel. The tile inscription belongs to the Timurid period and is one of the works of Qutbuddin Khizr Shah, which is also mentioned by the author of Jame Mofidi. Undoubtedly, contrary to the local reputation of this imamzadeh, which is known as Shah Fazel, he cannot be the son of the seventh Imam, since Yazd is the seat of Sadat Pahrehi and a large number of them lived in this city, and now they are the owners of the dome and bargah. The certainty of this mausoleum is one of the Sadats of Pahrehi, therefore it is likely that he is Seyyed Fazl bin Ali bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Isa bin Ali bin Hasan bin Muhammad bin Ali al-Arizi bin Imam Jafar Sadiq (peace be upon him) who according to Umaydi Nasabah had a son named Ashraf, his brother Hilal bin Ali is the same great person whose tomb is mistakenly known as Hilal bin Ali bin Abi Talib, the son of Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) in Aran and Bidgul. According to another story, this tomb is the burial place of one of the victims of the Fahraj incident in 747 AH. The building of the mausoleum lacks a special effect in terms of architecture due to the low-rise brick dome and the simple external building. The inside body of the mausoleum is decorated with a geometric design consisting of six-pointed stars and hexagons and a border of marbled tiles. For enthusiasts of natural history, this rare gem should not be missed.

After the Darabad Wildlife-Museum of Tehran, the Cambrian Museum of Yazd was the second natural history museum I’ve visited my entire life and I have to say although the whole site is not as big as the one in Tehran but I do really think it is much much worthier. I mean more than 400 examples of fossils which dates back to 200-500 million years ago! Isn’t that worth visiting?? Also I had a great time with its owner Mr. Pezhmanpoor which he helped me a lot with the history of the discovered fossils. If you are a lover of natural history do not miss this one! These museums are rare all over the world!

An enjoyable place to dine. The food quality was good and the service was acceptable. The menu was fine and it included a wide range of different Iranian foods. Unfortunately, the prices were just a bit high.
Amirowsen H — Google review
Well there's no outside place or any windows so it's not the best place to sit in, in time of corona so it's more of take out place. The menu is very interesting. Like you can choose between 3 different type of rice! Fresh ingredient and big amount of food comes with a high price but it's worth (The photo is food for 2 😁)

Very crowded as you naturally expect the most famous confectionary in yazd to be..the staff are very hardworking and quick on their feet to prepare your order but do expect some wait time. There are a few chairs inside to sit while you wait. Their sweets are delicious but perhaps not as much as they're famous.

Shish Badgiri Ab Anbar

3.8
(11)
Shish Badgiri Ab Anbar, also known as Six Wind Catcher, marks the culmination of ancient water supply networks that sustained urban life in central Iran's arid landscapes. The intricate system channeled snow-fed streams from the nearby mountains through underground aqueducts, spanning long distances to fill subterranean reservoirs strategically positioned within city neighborhoods. The architecture of this site is truly remarkable and holds a special significance in its design and functionality.
(Translated by Google) The reservoir of six winds has two entrances, one from the north and the other from the south, and the reservoir is located at the southern entrance. The tank in the reservoir has a capacity of 2000 cubic meters of water and in this respect it is considered as one of the medium reservoirs. The entrance to the water reservoir is located in the southern part, where you can reach the reservoir by walking 55 steps. Pashir is a place where water was taken out for use. Pashir is today's faucet. Of course, the point mentioned in some sources is the existence of two pashirs, which may not be true, the point is that these two pashirs were for the use of two classes, one lion for the Muslims of Yazd and the next lion for the Zoroastrians of Yazd. Of course, other sources also made another claim that because the number of people in this place was large and crowding caused a lot of crowding, they installed two taps to prevent this crowding. The reservoir of six windbreaks has an egg dome and has 6 windbreaks, each of these windbreaks is 10 meters high, and the depth of the reservoir itself is 12.6 meters. Reservoirs often have 4 important elements, including the dome, pashir, khazine and wind girder, each of which has a specific task. Dome: It was built in order to prevent dust or garbage from entering the tank to pollute the water. Pashir: The stairwell is so that people can empty the water they need. Wind deflector: It was made to keep the air inside the water tank and treasury cool. and Treasury: It is also dug in the ground to collect rainwater and store it.

Rostam Giv Ab Anbar: A Masterpiece of Persian Water Architecture. The Rostam Giv Ab Anbar, also known as the Rostam Giv water reservoir, is located in the historic city of Yazd in central Iran. Commissioned in 1940–1941 by the philanthropist Rostam Giv, this ab anbar (water cistern) was built to supply clean water to the arid urban environment of Yazd, where preserved underground structures were essential due to the region’s extreme dryness. This striking structure features a large underground cylindrical cistern covered by a dome and ventilated by four tall windcatchers (badgirs). These towers draw in cooler air and expel warmer air, naturally cooling and aerating the water. The brick dome and walls act as insulation, preventing evaporation and contamination —an ingenious design refined over centuries of Persian engineering. Beyond its functional role, the ab anbar symbolizes the civic generosity of Rostam Giv, one of Yazd’s Zoroastrian leaders and philanthropists. His foundation financed schools, fire temples, and other public works. The reservoir’s careful preservation and listing as a national heritage site in 1996 underscore its importance as a modern homage to ancient traditions. Today, the Rostam Giv Ab Anbar stands as a well-preserved cultural monument, open to visitors and admired for its architectural elegance and historical significance.

Cham Tower of Silence

Cemetery
The Cham Tower of Silence, located near the city of Yazd, is a fascinating site that holds great cultural and religious significance for the Zoroastrian community. This ancient burial ground features circular constructions on hilltops where the deceased were placed to prevent contact with the earth or water, in accordance with Zoroastrian beliefs. The towers offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape and are particularly captivating at sunset.
This important site takes you on a journey, rituals for death and resting places for the deceased tell religious and cultural stories of places and peoples. The towers of silence near Yazd, from the historical zoroastrian traditions, provide an exit point for the physical body and a launching pad for the soul. Laid to rest on those high points in the dry desert landscapes, exposing the remains to vultures and spiritual flight.

Talar-e Yazd, also known as Ghahvechi Restaurant, is a beloved culinary gem nestled in the heart of Yazd. Established in 1985 by the esteemed Mr. Haj Gholamali Ghahvehchi, this restaurant has earned its reputation as one of the oldest and most cherished dining spots in the city.
It’s the best restaurant in yazd and you’ll try the best Iranian traditional stews here. The menu can be attractive for different kinds of tastes!
Ali F — Google review
Quick professional service; large portions; good quality; rather crowded during mealtimes; great menu variety; indoor seating. Their Gheymeh Yazdi is totally recommended!
Arya R — Google review
Positive thing is, It’s a good place for a large group of people. On the other hand, the quality and service don’t match the price. Overall, I was not satisfied and I would rather going to other restaurants next time.
Hamed G — Google review
One of the most famous restaurants in yazd, great food both in quality and quantity and therefor worth the price. There's a long wait time to get a table and you'll give your name to reception and wait for them to call out, and another wait time when you get a table and sit. Because of its crowded nature, the staff may take a bit longer in general but for what it's worth they're very polite. The ambiance isn't exactly suitable for romantic dates or serious business meetings but perhaps best for families.
Sky — Google review
Went to this place due to local recommendations but ended up leaving without ordering. Google translate, hand signals, pointing to items on their English menu all didn't work as I was not able to communicate with the staff. The staff just kept staring back at me. Never any problems ordering food in Iran so far and this is by far the worst service I ever experienced in Iran. It's a shame because there were dishes I wanted to try and it was my last day in Yazd.
Melvin C — Google review
If you're a tourist planning to visit here, please do yourself a favor and DO NOT! I’ve been coming to this venue since I was a kid, and I have so many great memories. It's really sad to see the quality of their service has declined so terribly. They took every opportunity to pressure us into paying more for random items at the last minute during our event. When I spoke with management, they assured me they would resolve the issue, but in the end, they didn't take responsibility. They just hoped I would forget how they ruined my event.
Hanieh H — Google review
It is probably the best food in Yazd. Also has the oldest chef called "haji ashpaz" in the town. Must-try!
Amin B — Google review
It's very crowded in holiday and weekend, you should wait even for 1 hour to find a free table, the price in Yazd is high but they have very good quality and it's very good for family but the service is poor
