If you only have 4 days to spend in San Rafael, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
San Rafael is a gateway to Mendoza’s wine country, known for its Malbec vineyards and scenic wineries that welcome visitors for tastings. The surrounding landscape features canyons, rivers, and reservoirs like Valle Grande and Los Reyunos, popular for rafting, kayaking, hiking, and other outdoor activities. Nearby Atuel Canyon offers striking rock formations and viewpoints along a winding mountain road. The city itself has a relaxed atmosphere, tree-lined streets, and traditional restaurants serving regional food and local wines.
With favorites like Plaza San Martin, Bodega Suter - Grupo Peñaflor S.A., and Bodega Murville, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Sud Restaurant and La Maquina Resto so you can get the best taste of San Rafael while you’re here. Very well maintained and it’s a great place for kids, friends or even a date. It’s a place to go and relax. A picnic is ideal to have here.

The maze was a fun and challenging activity, but not so complicated that it became frustrating. The paths were well-manicured and easy to follow, making it a great way to spend an afternoon. It was $4400 a person to enter.

Really good and well maintained. Park is beautiful, restaurant is good, and the labyrinth is also well maintained and big. There is also a mini museum and a film worth watching for Borges enthusiasts.

Rodrigo V — Google review
Enjoy the park at the evening when the sun is setting. You have a nice view on top of the tower and entering the labrynth makes you live the words of Borges. It was great!
Taba G — Google review
Nice place to go and spend at least a couple hours. Places to do pic-nics, you can also have local food and wine right there. The maze is really good and fun for kids, while there's also a playground. On the downside, toilets were less than impressive and the video about the history of the place was way too long (1 hr).
Sebastian C — Google review
The place is good to spend few hours of self walk with family/friends. The restaurant kitchen/bar staff are rude and denied to give us tap water although the waitress tried to, the food is too expensive comparing with the quality. I recomend the place but not the restaurant.

(Translated by Google) Small, but full of valuable information. It's very interesting to learn how, who, and when the station was created, and everything surrounding it. As I mentioned to the woman who served as our guide (I apologize we didn't get her name), a Frenchman with a lot of money came to buy desolate land in our country and ended up building a great city like San Rafael. He was truly a visionary. Admission is a symbolic $1,000 per person (July 30, 2025). Thank you for the warmth, treatment, and respect to all the people who served us during this week of rest in this beautiful city.

Great hotel in the center of the city. Perhaps one of the more expensive hotels in San Rafael, but certainly worth it. The staff is friendly and efficient. The underground parking is a great benefit. Two pools are available. The smaller one is great for children that don't swim yet. The atmosphere is family-friendly. Breakfast is awesome and includes gluten-free items.

(Translated by Google) The skirt steak was delicious, the potatoes were reheated, and you could tell they were frozen. The service was a 10. Very convenient if you're staying at the hotel, although I recommend making a reservation. The lactonesa for the bread was delicious, but the bread was very, very hard. The empanadas were very good. A good option if you're in San Rafael and want something a little more serious than a beer hall. Note: On the menu, the skirt steak is listed as "entrails/entrails," which means "viscera" to the diner, but that's a mistake by the menu designer. It's the skirt steak we know and love.

We ordered empanadas; The flaky pastry is very delicious, the meat empanada was delicious but you could tell by the egg that the filling was frozen, the corn empanada had corn and carrots, strange but not bad, I didn't like the ham and cheese one, it had a palette for That gave it a star, but the best of all was the vegetable one, exquisite, it didn't just have spinach or chard like many do, it was vegetables with all the letters. Lastly, very economical, I recommend it (Original) Agradable lugar, el personal muy buena onda. Very passable cuisine, better wine, but the waitress fell flat from the moment I walked in. (And I gave her the chance to apologise.) How do I explain this? As someone with banking cards issued outside of this great country, my presence must have been confusing to her. Only after the meal had concluded was I told that sought to charge me an extra 10% based on a newfound presumption that any international card in my possession would be processed as a credit card (due to the fact that I'm not a home-grown Argentinian). However, one of my UK cards worked perfectly fine using her machine's debit card option, as it has done several hundred times before throughout my stay in Argentina, without the need for her to ruin my meal by being so confrontational about a 10% surcharge. Why do I even report this? So that other international guests don't fall into a trap. Take my advice: stand your ground, eat wisely, and wilfully defy any unapologetically unlawful ten per cent taxation. There are always other delicious options on your doorstep. Over and out.

Bodega La Abeja is a historic winery established in 1883, offering guided tours and tastings. Visitors have praised the smaller, more private group tours that offer numerous complimentary wine tastings of about 5 or 6 different wines. The knowledgeable tour guides provide insights into the winemaking process, including grape harvesting and bottling. Guests appreciate the friendly and informative staff, with special mentions for guides like Sofi and Juan Pablo who enhance the experience with their expertise and humor.
We messaged on WhatsApp to schedule an appointment. The tour was enjoyable, and the wine tasting at the end was fantastic, with numerous samples. For $2000, it was an outstanding value, and we also received a full glass of house wine for only $200 while we waited for the tour to begin.

The place itself is good looking and modern. The only thing I did not enjoy was the music. It’s quite invasive.

The food was good, but not great. Service was slow. The atmosphere was nothing special and it was pricey.

I had high hopes for this meal, but unfortunately, the food did not compare to the beautiful atmosphere of the decor in the interior of the restaurant. My partner and I both ordered the "Bife de chorizo" and it was extremely hard to cut for both of us, so much so that we needed to ask for a different knife to cut the beef. Our hands were sore by the end of the meal from just trying to cut the beef! The presentation of the dishes were quite nice and eye-catching but the taste of the food was deceptive and seemed to contrast a lot. I really wanted to like this place, but the service didn't seem to compare to the interior design neither. I left feeling disappointed because we had two servers throughout the meal and not one person asked us "how the meal was" even after we waited almost an hour for the meal. I wouldn't recommend eating at this restaurant. It was not worth it.

We dined at "The Club" 3 weeks ago and had a fantastic evening tonight however was absolutely terrible,, raw meat on a plate with no frills and when we told the arrogant man taking my hard earned money he just gave excuses,,, no apologies for the meal and no discount,, stay clear of this place . O just contacted the manager from when we dinned 3 weeks ago and he's been fired!!!! Big mistake I think 🤔

Good food. Decent price. Quality service. Fantastic crowd. Good live music. One of the memorable restaurants in my Argentina trips.
Shahed M — Google review
Well, very nice place but...service is not professional, a lot of people (higher staff) are watching how waiteresses are working instead to react when guests are waiting 15‘ to order or getting the bill. The restaurant was 30% booked, immagine when its full. The food was ok, the wine too cold, the etiquette of our wine was glued off...the white chocolate mousse was excellent. I‘m not coming back...

Great space, service and food. Unfortunately, on the day we were for our dinner family there was a birthday in the upper floor full of drunk loud teenagers. This made a great experience into a really annoying one.
Diego L — Google review
We have eaten here twice now. The service is impeccable and the food delicious, well prepared and presented. The menu is simple and each item comes as a whole meal (ie with sides - as opposed to many other establishments in town where any side dish is charged for). My husband has had the Biffe de Oja cooked to perfection with grilled mushrooms and potato in a Roquefort sauce. I have had the trout with stir fried veg and the spinach ricotta ravioli both tasty and we'll cooked. Deserts to indulge on. As a new establishment in town we wish them success.

In Mendoza region to find a new vinyard for a project of 150 hectoliters. Sponanteously came by Bianchi. We arrived and a huge group was just waiting to start a tour. We asked to join the tour and walk along, paid of course, to get to know the vinyard. The staff wouldnt allow it. They just told us to make an appointment, for a time when we will already travel back. Guess they dont need new customers here. Disappointing.

(Translated by Google) I didn't believe many of the reviews before going, and there's a noticeable price difference compared to other, perhaps less well-known, local wineries we visited earlier to compare. But yes, the price is for an expensive tasting. Especially considering the allotted time doesn't allow for leisure or relaxation. The wines we sampled weren't the best, while others, for half the price, offer top-notch wines. It wasn't a great experience, but perhaps it's worth mentioning that it could be better. The "I'll tell you about it, and then you can come back and take photos if you want" format isn't what you expect when you're out and about. Undoubtedly, their business is about quantity, not quality, thanks to their large infrastructure and exposure. It left me wanting more...

There's no effort to even speak a little slower to help foreigners who don't speak Spanish. My parents, over 70 years old, had to rush to catch up with the timed route and weren't even waited for to begin the explanation. It's not worth the investment. If those responsible for the company take the time to read these reviews, please consider my observation. You have a beautiful place, you can do an amazing job. The winery Bodega Labiano offers free entry and features a unique "wine" fountain that adds an exquisite touch to the overall experience. The owner, who is regarded as a genius, was actively involved in attending to guests alongside his employees. Visitors can enjoy a delightful horseback ride through the beautiful vineyards. Although our reviewer did not partake in the wine tasting, Bodega Labiano appeared to prioritize safety protocols by conducting their activities outdoors, distinguishing them from other wineries visited.

We bought jams and a delicious 2023 Chenin white wine, which we were able to taste beforehand. We wanted to buy other varieties as well, but when I approached to taste the guide, she put the bottles away, and I didn't dare tell her I wanted to try them, but her intention was clear. Other visitors were able to try other varieties; I didn't want to interrupt the guide's conversation with a customer, and when I approached to taste, she put the bottles away. Based on the comments I read, I didn't dare buy blind. Blaxon Steak House & bar in San Rafael is known for serving steaks just the way you like them, even if it's rare. While some feel that the food could be more flavorful, it's generally considered good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is great with good music and vibes, and the bartender Vladi is praised for his skills and personal attention to customers. Customers recommend trying out different drinks based on preferences, with the Penicillin being a standout choice.
Thomas was excellent!! We had the rib eye and it was one of the best steaks we have had the whole trip!! The rouqfort sauce was so good with the steak! Angelina 1300 malbec with the steak is a homerun!

The steak I ordered rare, came rare. If you have eaten steak in San Rafael, you understand how rare that is. The food could have been a little more flavorful but was good 👍. The price was about the same for any good restaurants here, which is to say, not expensive by United States prices. The entire meal, with wine and dessert, was less than $10 dollars.

Went to have some picadas with wines but felt it wasn't very coordinated. We got all the picadas in one go with a white wine but when they saw me start the empanadas (which I did not want to get cold) they came with their Malbec. We felt we missed quite some wines and had to go back to another white later. Would have preferred it in order. Stayed around for a month but haven't gone back for their food afterwards due to this experience as it was not cheap. The wines were nice.

Day 3

Proximity is everything
For day 3, we bundled attractions like Cañón del Atuel and Natural History Museum San Rafael and other places within a close range, so that the time it takes to travel between all of them is less than one hour. Combined with the average time people spend there, your day should take about 8 hours.

Wonderful place. Need an entire day to visit. The most shocking and beautiful part is the view of the Embalse Valle Grande from the top along the road to the canyon. The best view is in the first half of the day.

Very beautiful canyon in Mendoza province. It’s cool to drive on a car inside canyon and after that enjoy in the lake where you can rent SUP and kayak!

From San Rafael, the canyon is about 1 hour drive away and can be visited without booking a tour. The best option is to have a car to drive in the canyon. The road is not paved but is passable cautiously. The best is to plan the day there with a picnic like many local people and to stop wherever you want. The canyon offers various incredible spot.

From San Raphael bus terminal take the public bus (250 pesos) to the last stop which requires you only to walk to canon Atel for 30min (mirador). I suggest to take the 7h20 am bus for great photos (see photos as lake acts like a nice mirror). At 12pm lots of people rafting and will create wave ripples (not as nice). route 1: Canon Atel mirador route 2: walk back to last stop and take the other road (bridge) route 3: walk back the same way from the bus route to view other touristic views and activities (the bus to return to san Raphael will be cheaper as you will walk 30min to an hr back). 150aprox see other comments i have for nearby areas.

Quinchos De Ortubia is a charming restaurant with a cozy atmosphere, located outdoors on a beautiful lawn under the trees. The owners, a young couple and their adorable 7-month-old baby, provide exceptional hospitality and valuable sightseeing tips. The meals are homemade using ingredients from their own production or sourced locally, resulting in remarkably delicious dishes. Guests can enjoy live music after dinner and may even receive assistance with transportation if needed.

We loved this little place! My husband and I went with our four kids (15, 13, 9, and 6) and it was perfect. It is a very small operation, but Silvina (the chef/owner) came out to explain the menu while our younger kids played in their very kid-friendly yard. It was relaxing and easy to bring our family there, but we noticed more couples on dates as it got later. We really enjoyed all of our food, especially the salmon salad appetizer and the carne en masa. We went back a second time, and would happily go a third time if we were staying in SR longer. Highly recommend!

Outstanding food in charming rustic area. Silvina is a great chef, she went above and beyond in making us feel welcome. I was very surprised to see fried empanadas tasting like gourmet food, and side salads that were out of this world. Highly recommended

What a great dining experience! Picture yourself on a farm, sitting outside enjoying wine and the sunset while horses play in the fields and you’re served an amazing meal by your own private chef. Now stop imagining and go to Quinchos De Ortubia to actually experience it. Maybe we just timed it perfectly, but we were the only customers on a Wednesday evening and had a great 3hr experience. The owner Silvina greeted us with open arms as we got out of our car and treated us I like we were long lost friends or family. A very casual experience with a unique feeling of having your own private chef. Our waiter Gabrielle (sp?) helped us translate into English and had a perfect balance of letting us enjoy our time and checking in to see if we needed anything. The meal was great but the surroundings and staff made it awesome. My only regret is that we didn’t stop by before our last day in San Rafael. We would have loved to have a second meal at Quinchos De Ortubia. Please WhatsApp for a reservation. You won’t regret it.

Nestled in the heart of San Rafael, Pizza Marca is a charming spot that promises a delightful dining experience. While some patrons have noted delays in service, many appreciate the warm and professional demeanor of the staff. The menu features an array of delicious pizzas, including options for those with dietary restrictions like gluten-free choices. Guests rave about the generous portions and wallet-friendly prices, making it an excellent choice for families or groups looking to enjoy a meal together without breaking the bank.
I tried to surprise my friends by delivering food to them after a long and dangerous trip, and sadly there was an issue with the payment method at first. It wasn't really Pizza Marca's fault and I understand their professional behaviour, instead I told them to keep the food and the money because I felt bad for causing embarrassment in such an unusual food delivery context that happened directly from France (and meant to be delivered in San Rafael). The staff kept it cool and I believe we just ran into an obstacle that we didn't think would happen. In the end, the food had still been prepared but I refused to let the delivery happen as I believed the money didn't go through and it seemed complicated to benefit from free food while I couldn't go there to pay myself physically. Another reason for me cancelling the delivery was that the surprise was ruined as I told my friend and his family that I tried to do this, and it seemed unfair to ask them to pay for the food order I got for them without letting them know. Instead, they said it was an amazing surprise and that given the circumstances, I could just ask to cancel the order. The money eventually still went through and I allowed Pizza Marca to keep it, and they kindly let them know that my next order would be free of charge if need be. Good people.

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Bodega Iaccarini. Not quite as popular as Bodega La Abeja, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

The winery is great! They provided us with a fantastic tour and then a great charcuterie with lots of wine. The wine is good and the tour guide is very informative. The property is a lot bigger than we expected! Overall, we loved it and recommend it to anyone exploring the area.

(Translated by Google) The experience at the Iaccarini winery was simply exceptional. From the very first moment, the welcoming atmosphere and Gaston's personalized attention made the difference. The tasting was a true sensorial journey. I particularly highlight the Don Nicasio Gran Reserva Malbec, with its perfect balance of ripe fruit, soft tannins, and a lingering finish that invites further exploration. Gaston shared details about the winemaking process with passion and knowledge, which further enriched the experience. Furthermore, the pairing with regional products was a success. Without a doubt, this is a must-visit for those seeking authenticity, quality, and a deep connection with wine and its origins. This winery, which dates back to 1903, employs a technological approach without changing its essence. It also has a beautiful basement bar.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I was unable to partake in the lengthy tour and tasting offered at Bodega Murville. However, I did manage to capture some stunning photographs of the picturesque location. It had been highly recommended that I dine there as well, and I can confirm that the outdoor dining experience was delightful. The food was incredibly delicious, reasonably priced, served with warmth and attentiveness. Overall, my visit to Bodega Murville left a lasting impression on me.
(Translated by Google) A winery with an excellent location and easy access in San Rafael. There are different options: guided tour with tasting, visit + picnic, lunch at the restaurant. We did the guided tour with tasting with our 6 and 4 year old children. Nico was super super entertaining with his explanations, it was very clear and, above all, realistic. I explain the steps of the process, I teach how to read the labels and then know what to choose as a consumer. And at the time of the tasting he taught us how to taste the different wines. (Translated by Google) The place is very close to the San Rafael airport, almost across the street. I was really looking forward to going, based on the photos and dishes shown in the description. We arrived and chose a table outside on a beautiful, pleasant day. They brought us a delicious complimentary drink, and it was a lovely moment. We ordered sorrentinos with pink sauce, which were exquisite with a sweet sauce just the way I like it, and they tasted very, very good. The other dish was sirloin steak with blue cheese and rustic potatoes. It was cooked perfectly, and also delicious. But... dessert was a huge disappointment. We ordered "Brownie with ice cream and red berries." The brownie was from a box and was a simple chocolate sponge cake. The brownie has nuts, and the texture is completely different, completely different. It was obvious that it wasn't chicha or lemonade. The friendly waitress, by the way, tried to tell me it was a Marquise, but it was far from it! I thought that since this was a place that tried to specialize in pastry, this had to be the best... Well, no. Damn, why did I have such high expectations? I'm very demanding, but if I'm going to pay $3,800 pesos for a dessert, I want it to be a brownie. Everything else was great!

Regarding the wines, I only brought two for personal consumption, and a few days ago I opened one, and the cork broke in half and the other half fell inside. I wrote to them via WhatsApp, but to this day I haven't heard back. I should clarify that I have a wine cellar and store my wines there. Also, other wines I brought on that same trip and from other wineries have been opened and were impeccable. They contacted me a few days later and resolved the issue! (Translated by Google) This is an “intermediate” winery, since it is still a family business, but it is much larger and produces more varieties and in greater quantities than others of the same style. The price of admission, which, like most, includes a tour and tasting, is $1,200 (August 2023). I also consider the price intermediate, since in some wineries you do not pay entry, and in others you pay double or more. The farm is not located on the same premises, but the production process takes place right there, so the experience is still very good. The tasting part was the one I liked the most (😉🍷), mainly because it felt more personal than in other wineries. We were able to sit at a bar and chat with the guide, who very kindly answered all our questions. First of all, we confirmed our reservation very late (9 p.m.), and they still allowed us to go. The breakfast was delicious, the location beautiful, the music pleasant, everything very well thought out for a leisurely breakfast. The guide (Camila) provided us with a wealth of information about the winery, the types of wine, etc. (no spoilers). She was very entertaining and willing to answer all our questions. The tasting was good and plentiful compared to the other wineries. The wines were delicious. She focused on our preferences and also made an excellent recommendation for a Malbec Reserva, which we also tasted. Compared to other wineries, at the end of the day, after visiting a total of six wineries, we clearly saw the dedication to the job and the desire to improve. She told us that she's only been doing the guide and tasting for two years, and she was receptive to the suggestions we offered. It is definitely a recommended winery. Argentinian restaurant
Nestled in the heart of San Rafael, El Viejo Bodegón is a charming Argentine restaurant that doubles as a trattoria, inviting you to savor the region's traditional dishes. The warm and family-friendly atmosphere is beautifully decorated, making it an ideal spot for dinner after a long day. With an extensive menu featuring generous portions made from fresh ingredients at attractive prices, you'll find something to delight your palate.
Excellent. The menu is wide and very good. All portions are huge. Ask before ordering. Fresh ingredients, very attractive prices and pretty solid service. We went several times, ordering different items of the menu. Salads and sandwiches are great. They also serve pretty good sushi. Lots of meat dishes as well. Would definetely recommend it

I ordered t-bone steak with roasted vegetables in San Rafael but it's not the best beef I've had compared to my time in Buenos Aires where it's the best here It was a little bit chewy in parts not the usual quality I'm accustomed to but the staff were very good

The ribs my wife ordered where perfect, I was very disappointed with the burger, it was like eating cardboard and my chips arrived cold, for the price i paid for the burger it could at least have been made from a better grade of meat.

The food was dry and nothing special. They overcharged on top of the already high price. I will not be going back there.

(Translated by Google) There are not enough words to describe the excellence of this place. From the minute you arrive, the attention is incredible. The owner is super friendly and dedicated. He took us to choose the wine and took the time to offer us his favorites. The panera with homemade lactose that they serve at the beginning is delicious. The incredible meat empanadas. And the main dishes are impossible to decide. There were four of us and we opted for different options so we could try and share. The house dish, which is meat in batter, is really wonderful, meat cooked for 4 hours in wine. The super tender pizza matambre. The portions are abundant and super complete. We didn't get to dessert because at that point we were already more than satisfied. But without a doubt we will return. The place is extremely warm, like arriving at grandma's house, you can smell the aroma of homemade food.

(Translated by Google) Incredible experience, incredible food, delicious and abundant. The attention is spectacular, the atmosphere is relaxed. I recommend it. The only thing missing is lighting at the entrance because at night it is difficult to find the entrance, otherwise 1000/10. I recommend not missing the meat in the dough, we made the 4-step menu and it brings you a lot of food, minced meat, empanadas, bread, Focaccia, the main course and dessert, all included. We saw the price for the amount of food well. we loved it (Original) Increíble experiencia, increíble comida, riquísima y abundante.

(Translated by Google) We went on a recommendation but didn't have a good experience. It took a long time, the pasta was tough, the sauce was watery, and the meat was 70% fat. Not even the kids wanted to eat it. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but we didn't like any of the dishes. The service was good. (Translated by Google) The food was incredible, and the wine even better. The only downside is that we didn't get a chance to try the carne a la masa (steak) because they ran out, but we did eat some delicious pasta and delicious cuts of meat. We were served by Santiago, who then escorted us to the wine cellar, and with his recommendations, we chose excellent wines to bring back. We ended up very late without any response from our drivers, and they were kind enough to help us find taxis. Without a doubt, a must-see in San Rafael!
