Santa Cruz in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Santa Cruz, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Santa Cruz is the main gateway to Chile’s renowned Colchagua Valley, one of the country’s top wine regions known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, and Syrah. Visitors can tour working vineyards, ride a vintage-style wine train, and explore the well-regarded Colchagua Museum, which covers Chilean history from pre-Columbian cultures to modern times. The town itself has a walkable center with a traditional plaza, and serves as a convenient base for scenic drives through rolling vineyards and rural countryside.
With favorites like Viña Montes, Fuegos de Apalta, and Clos Apalta Winery, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Konzumaky Sushi and Club Unión Social Santa Cruz so you can get the best taste of Santa Cruz while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Specialty Museums
The Colchagua Museum, inaugurated in 1995, is a charming complex dedicated to preserving and promoting Chile's cultural heritage. Privately owned by Don Carlos Cardoen, it showcases exhibits on Chilean natural history, pre-Columbian art, and culture. The museum offers a brief introduction to the earth's origins and delves into the history of southern American cultures that once inhabited Chilean lands. Visitors can explore different periods of Chilean history through an extensive collection of artifacts.
Excellent museum. 10 minute video to start in english or Spanish. Sadly their exhibits are all in spanish. Wonderful collection maybe a bit eclectic. Well worth the entrance, well lite displays.
Barefoot M — Google review
Absolutely stunning. An unbelievably extensive collection of fascinating objects, beautifully displayed and clearly very well taken care of. I questioned why the ticket covers 24 hours but after the museum I agree that there is too much to really see for one day! I go to a lot of museums but this has to be my all time favourite. I really enjoyed seeing the early marking machinery and the early tank. There is also a wide gauge steam loco with beautifully preserved rolling stock. A real joy to visit.
Nicola M — Google review
Indeed a very interesting museum and well worth your time and money! They have a collection on basically everything, from fossils to ancient ages to conquistadors and the modern age. Impressive set of artefacts and stories, you could spend more than a day there. I really do recommend. And they have a nice, safe, free parking just in front 😀
Irenej K — Google review
One of the best museums I've visited. Be aware that most of the signs aren't in English but I just translated with Google lens. I went back twice as the ticket allows 24hr entry.
Joe — Google review
Unmissable collection of thousand of well curated pieces of Chilean and universal history, your ticket is 24 hrs long so you can comeback to see every item
Andres C — Google review
Without any doubt, the Colchagua museum is a must while in Santa Cruz if you like museums, of course, it has a brief introduction on how earth started, main ages from the paleozoic era l till our days, and it gets more detail in the southern American cultures, getting more detailed towards the ones who occupied the actual Chilean land, most of then sadly extinguished by the colonization process, who is also depicted, as well as the different periods of the Chilean history to finally ends with the Colchagua valley and its huasos, in brief, is a history tell as a funnel converging in this territory. It also has an industrialization area, mainly represented by late XIX and early XX centuries, beautiful machines, definitely lovely and also liked it very much a huge collection of amber with lot of bugs and plants captured within, you have the help of augmented lens to see them through the light. Sounds good, right? It is indeed, the only missing star is because some info is not totally accurate and most because there's no written info in other language than Spanish, that's all.
Eric S — Google review
Excellent, excellent museum covering the whole history of Chile from prehistory up until the present, with especially impressive collections of precolumbian art, jewelry and tapestry. It's a private collection of impressive scale and quality. There are also fascinating exhibits on weapons, carriages and even the Chilean miner rescue of 2010. My whole family loved this museum
Ben C — Google review
This museum is huge, i didn't think I'd spent this much time there but it was definitely needed. You'll end up going through a lot of history of Chile, from the oldest to recent stuff. The collection of items and artefacts us to be seen, be ready to spend hours wandering around. The building itself is a piece of history being a reconstruction after the previous building was torn down by an earthquake

The Casino Colchagua offers a spacious and uncrowded environment with a wide selection of gaming machines. Visitors can enjoy their experience, as the casino is open from 1 pm to 4 am. Additionally, various artists are invited to perform shows on different days, including singers and comedians, which are announced on the website. The casino provides a pleasant atmosphere for visitors, particularly on Tuesday nights when there are fewer people present. Overall, it is an excellent destination for entertainment and enjoyment.
Not so crowded, lot of machines to chose, I had a good time, it can be visited from 13 pm to 4 am if im not wrong, there are some artist invited to perform some shows for example, singers, comediants depends the day they announced on the web page.

There was a distinct lack of zirconium decor, which is why I came. Frankly, as a metallurgical tourism destination, I found it dissappointing.

Sushi restaurant
The presentation of the dishes at Konzumaky Sushi is well-crafted and visually pleasing. The staff is attentive and friendly, providing excellent service. Although there were some beverage options that were unavailable from the blackboard menu on the interior terrace, the focus of this restaurant is on their quality sushi, which was undeniably good.
A hidden gem here in Santa Cruz. Came across this place randomly and gave it a try, we were surprised by the quality and the interesting variety of recipes they offered. I've never seen sushi like this, Chilean style. My favourite was the "hot and cold", fried sushi (somewhat like in Brazil) but with ceviche on top, it was fascinating and also delicious. We also got the spicy salmon roll which was not very spicy, just right. These were the only two rolls that didn't have cream cheese (not our preference) but they were excellent. Would recommend, especially if you're used to cream cheese in sushi and you would be interested in their other options for rolls. They have patio seating and indoor seating too. Lovely vibe.
Salima N — Google review
The biggest issue here is a complete lack of any authenticity. I've never seen gyoza or ramen look like that. Gyoza is done in the wrong dough and ramen is basically a noodle soup with vegetables. But that is not to say it tasted bad. Sushi is average and mostly non-fish but has good deals. The staff is very welcoming.
Petr V — Google review
We were in Santa Cruz only a few days and ended up coming here twice! We had great experiences where the staff were lovely and helped us figure out the menu while we struggled with a language barrier!

Great Chilean sushi. Chilean sushi is different than American sushi and different than Japanese Sushi. It’s not fair to compare them. This is great Chilean Sushi. Good gluten free options and knowledge. Conveniently across the street from casa Suiza

(Translated by Google) A place that's no longer what it used to be. I've known this sushi restaurant since its inception, when the owners themselves ran the restaurant. At that time, the quality and service were impeccable. However, the last three years have seen a noticeable and worrying decline. Wait times have become excessive, and what finally arrives at the table is far from what this place once was. The difference is abysmal. Regarding pickup, the experience has been consistently disappointing: on three separate occasions, I arrived within the 45-minute time limit, only to find my order abandoned at the counter, completely cold, with no one bothering to let me know it was ready. To top it all off, when I was paying, they asked me, "Would you like to add a service tip?" Frankly, it's disconcerting. The decision to outsource management was clearly a mistake. It's clear that those in charge now come from backgrounds where quality of care is not a priority, and this is evident in every detail of the current operation. An establishment that once stood out has now been reduced to a mediocre version of itself by management that ignores the basic standards of good service.

Restaurant
Club Unión Social Santa Cruz is a charming Chilean restaurant located right in the heart of the city, offering a truly authentic culinary experience. Set in a colonial Chilean house with traditional features like tiled roofs and spacious corridors, it provides a welcoming atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. The restaurant boasts a large vine-covered courtyard where guests can enjoy their meals in the shade.
On our bike ride, we stopped for a pisco sour and had three little tasty different empanadas. The drink was a little sweet for us, but they happily adjusted it and it’s quite good. It does not have the foam that other ones have . Everything was tasty, and their prices are reasonable! I definitely think this is a place to come back too. We might come back later for dinner.

A beautiful setting outside under a trellis of 100 grape vines. We enjoyed our late breakfast of spanish tortilla and vegetable tortilla. Our waiter was excellent, service was prompt and prices fair. By the time we were leaving it was very busy a testament of yheir local support.

Italian restaurant
Ristorante Vino Bello is a stylish and romantic restaurant located in Santa Cruz. The chef's culinary journey from Chile to Italy influences the menu, which primarily features Chilean dishes with a few exceptions. Some of the must-try items include clay oven-cooked pizzas, scratch-made pastas, salads, and various fish and meat dishes. The restaurant also offers an impressive selection of local wines and unique cocktail options.
We had dinner twice at this restaurant. Service was great, staff really friendly. Food was delicious. My only critique would be that the pasta pesto wasn’t really a pasta pesto as the kitchen used a lot of cream (why?), but the dish was still good. Try to get a table outside and enjoy an incredible sunset.

I don’t understand the good reviews here. The view is beautiful, absolutely but this was by far the worst food we had in our month long stay in Chile. The food took 45 min, they must have forgotten bc all the other tables that came after us were served already. Our salad came out drenched and soggy and the seafood pasta was rubbery and honestly, flavourless and our steak was under cooked. We spoke to the owner and she was rude and just made excuses, which was fine but I had expected at least and acknowledgement of the errors. I was shocked after receiving such great hospitality everywhere else. If you actually have high standards for food do your self a favor and book at Fuegos de Apaltas, it is incredible! Even the food at our hotel parronales was way better. I was so disappointed

Loved the pasta with octopus! Other pasta dishes were fine too. Tiramisu was very moist, tres leches style and with cream cheese.. still amazing location!!

Tasty food and beautiful location looking onto the Laura Hartwig vinyard. Lot of choices on the menu which actually made picking hard. But I went with the waiters recommendation and it was delisous. Overall a really nice experience. Staff were lovely.

The place is romantic and very nice. we ordered seafood pasta and ravioli with bluecheese. It was delicious. The ravioli did not realy taste like bluecheese and was a bit sweet. That’s the only remark. The rest was really great and the staff was very pleasant.

Sunset dinner. Simply a gastronomic delight. I did ask my server for wine recommendations which he was unable to provide. He just told me these are the reds and these are the whites Although I have my preferences, I would have loved if they had recommendations based on dishes i.e . Pairings. Having said that everything we ate was delicious! The poached pears were life!
Dr. M — Google review
I recently came back, the place is still beautiful, but the food is lacking now. I had the mushroom risotto and it was a big disappointment, under-cooked and the flavor relied heavily on the truffle oil.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful visit...it's good to know and recognize how the landowners who owned great fortunes lived in the opulence of the century before last. The bad thing is that there are no traces of what the homes of the workers and tenants of that same hacienda were like, on whose shoulders the owners forged their fortunes. With this, we would have a complete overview of Chile in those years.

(Translated by Google) An interesting place to visit, as a historical heritage site, it reveals, among other things, the opulence in which a few powerful and privileged families lived, whose fortunes, beyond any eventual effort, have no merit other than being inherited from colonial encomenderos. The building is well maintained and preserved and has a kind and attentive manager. The boxes that provide descriptions of the room being visited suffer from spelling problems and contain more than a few grammatical errors, such as saying "musketeer" instead of "mosquitero," referring to the gauze that protects against mosquitoes.

Viña MontGras offers an exceptional wine tour experience with a dynamic guide, Fernanda. She effortlessly translates the tour in both Spanish and English, ensuring everyone in the group feels included. The level of information provided is impressive, as well as the interaction within the vineyard, wine selection, and food pairing. This tour is not only informative but also enjoyable for those who may be less familiar with wines.
We did a the tour and wine tasting, WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! Fernanda was our guide in both tours and she didn't fell short. For the first time I was (finally) able to smell and taste notes, and that was surely because of Fernanda's guidance and teaching. We ended up taking home a lovely bottle of Ninquén. Highly recommended if you want to learn and try.

Lovely few hours sitting on the decking admiring the scenery with a delicious cheese n meats board and a bottle of wine. The lady on reception was so friendly and helpful in arranging us the platter and recommending a bottle of wine (as opposed to 2 glasses! :-) ) - and so kindly providing us with the ability to continue enjoying wine ;-). Gorgeous setting, just wish we'd got a taxi up here so we could both drink and have a leisurely afternoon here with such lovely views. Hope we can return here at the end of our trip.

We did the tour today and Fernanda made it amazing ! She was very knowledgable not only about wine but also history. She was very kind and offered us a perfect description of wine and tasting experience. We really enjoyed it ! We learnt a lot ! I would recommend it 100%. The wines were very great. It was the best tasting experience we had so far !

I had the most incredible tour and tasting with Marcelo at MontGras in Santa Cruz. He was passionate beyond belief and it is clear he truly loves what he does. We started with a walk through the vines, where he took me through each grape varietal, quizzing me along the way and keeping me completely engaged. Then we toured the production area and cellar before finishing with a tasting. Marcelo was kind, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience both educational and fun. I learnt so much and left with an even stronger appreciation for Chilean wine. By far the best winery tour I’ve ever engaged in. I would recommend MontGras and Marcelo to anyone visiting Santa Cruz or Chile.

We were lucky and got a winetasting as a couple privately with montgras vinery even though we booked a regular tasting. Fernanda did a great job. She showed and explained to us the wine making process in detail from the different grapes to the different kinds of barrel etc. She was super knowledgable about different tastes, the wines themselves, the history of winemaking in chile and loads more. We lernt a lot and had a great time. Her english was super good aswell. Getting to the vinery from santa cruz by uber worked super well and the property is really beautiful. I can only recommend the experience to everyone. We tasted three wines and they were all excellent. We got to know so much about them that it feels like it would have been too much to taste more wines. Se arrived about 45 min before the tasting and were able to see a small wine museum in the building and enjoy the beautiful view while waiting. I d definitly recommend arriving a bit sooner to get the most out of the experience. Thanks Montgras for the experience.

This was our favorite winery we visited in Chile. It is an absolute MUST see winery when in Colchagua valley. We received a full private tour and premium tasting. The tour started with a tasting of delicious rosé, golf cart ride through the vineyards, exploring their winemaking process, and ending with tasting four more wines. The wine making process was our favorite part — the building is absolutely incredible you have to see it for yourself. Staff was incredibly nice, tool so many photos of us together. Highly recommend!

I don’t know if this wine tour can be beat, period. I arrived yesterday without a reservation to the 3pm tour and was worried upon initially arriving what the situation would be. Not to fear- as soon as I opened the door and saw Jorge and said hello I knew from my travels that this was going to be a top top experience far beyond and better than anything I could have possibly imagined. I opted for the anthology package which allows you to try clos apalta, la petit clos, and a vintage clos apalta wine. 2019, 2019, and 2012 respectively. The tour itself was unbelievable and amazing, it just so happened I was the only one there for the tour so it was totally private and I got to interact with Jorge and ask him as many questions as I could possibly think of. Jorge himself was very knowledgeable about intricacies and subtleties of this mind blowing vineyard and was convivial as well. Clos apalta is a 100% organic vineyard since ‘97. The owners are of French descent and previously used to own Gran Mariner before selling it to Campari to focus on their own vineyard. The attention to detail is striking, and the eco sustainability is something to be admired. They left no stone unturned and no expense spared. The main fermentation, distillation, and storing rooms are carved in a tower 8 stories deep into bedrock acting as a natural cellar throughout. Tip of the iceberg. Go there and check out for yourself the incredible and understated class of this property and the attention to detail. The fact that the lodges are a R&C linked property is icing on the cake. Disclaimer: lodges are closed for renovations and expansion of more units until October so if you can’t book a room, that’s why! If the lodging is closed, so is the restaurant which is again only reserved for paying guests. Clos apalta is the best, simply put.

This was a great tour. They bring you around in a large cart. The winery has a lot of unique designs that’s so interesting to see. The area itself is beautiful with expansive vineyards and alpacas. The tasting had very good wines and we had a nice group with great conversations!
Melissa P — Google review
We had maybe the best wine tour I have ever done here. The guide went deep into the technical details of the process and explained the unique design of the building very well. He also described the wines very well and we tasted a delicious clos Apalta wine from 2015. Strongly recommend it.
Ben C — Google review
Awesome wine visit! If you are looking to know more about premium wines (Iconos, as they call it here) this is a must go. The visit starts on top of the winery overlooking the valley, and ends on 5 stories down on a beautiful cellar where tasting occurs. We loved it!

My favourite winery in Chile, spectacular views and stunning grounds. Delicious wine and pairing menu - definitively worth a visit. Highly recommend.

Viña las Niñas is a hidden gem that offers an unforgettable experience for wine lovers. Even on days when tours aren't running, the welcoming staff invite you to savor their exquisite wines while soaking in breathtaking views from the charming outdoor deck. The Syrah-Carmenere blend is a must-try, and don’t miss out on their delightful chardonnay-style champagne! This small winery prides itself on its commitment to sustainability and local charm, making it feel like a true escape into nature.
A relaxing and beautiful tasting! Las Niñas was our first tasting of the day. Staff was incredibly knowledgable and fun, we had a great time. For such a small winery, the wine was so impressive! We enjoyed every glass. I would highly recommend trying the chardonnay-style champagne as well. 10/10 taste and experience!

Beautiful vineyard grounds and architecturally intriguing winery. Well priced tasting and winery tour package. Generally good wines at a bit of a high price point. In Chile this is about the only place to find their wine as 90% of production is exported.

Musst visit if you like wine and a relaxing atmosphere. The silence is only broken by bird chirping. Very friendly staff. Wines are around 11.000 mandatory and pretty good cheeseplate is 7.000 obviously only one plate is nesecary to drink as many bottle as you like;). Just beautiful

We made an appointment for a tasting, had a long drive to come on time, but no one was there. After waiting and searching they told us to wait, the tasting should be a bit later, but after waiting someone came to tell us, we couldn’t have a tasting today. Such an arrogance!
Marijke B — Google review
We arrived on a day that the tour wasn't operating. However the staff were super friendly and invited us in for a glass of wine anyway. We sat outside on the small deck in the sun, enjoying the stunning views and Jack the dog. The syrah-carmenere was a delicious and it was nice to be at a Vineyard that felt local and cared about the environment.

Were here on a Sunday and got their picnic basket. They thought off all the small details to go have an amazing picnic in their vineyard. Great wines too!

Viña Montes is an exceptional winery that offers tours in English. Their guided tour includes a delightful horse-drawn carriage ride through the picturesque vineyards, providing stunning views of the surrounding hills. Additionally, they offer motorized open van tours that take visitors up the hill for a more extensive experience. The tour showcases their barrel room where wine matures in oak barrels while Gregorian chant music plays to create vibrations, enhancing the wine's quality.
Montes was a very beautiful and enriching experience. High quality wines. We took the tour, Eric was the best guide ever in a winery. I hope you have the tour with him. We went up to the hill to try the first white wine, with an outstanding view. We were explained how the Fen Shui was the base of the design of the architecture of the winery. I really recommend this winery in your visit in Santa Cruz.
Cristobal Q — Google review
Montes is the best Winery that we have visited! Maybe it was the ageing room where classical music is played 24/7. Or was it the actual wines ? The scenery even on a rainy day, the food ? The people? It's a combination of all ! Thanks to our guide Eric, knowledgeable, friendly and best of all knows exactly what he's talking about without been a wine snob. We will be returning in April for the harvest 🥰

A fabulous vineyard ! The vineyard tour & wine tasting was absolutely great. Following the touring of the vineyard with a detailed history of the estate the tour then went into the details of wine making. The tour was very informative & interesting. The subsequent visit to the store room where the wine ages in the oak barrels was surreal. Gregorian chants help the wine to age. - What an experience ! The wine tasting consisted of 2 icon wines 🍷 which were absolutely delicious to try - Purple Angel & 'M' . A great experience which can only be highly recommended.

What a fabulous tour we had with Nicole at the Montes Vineyard! Unique experience highly worth the detour! Surprising approach I'll leave you to discover (although some might have given it away). Worth eating at the restaurant too, in the middle of the vines 😍🍷

They deserve to be called the third best winery in the world. From top to bottom everything is first class. The wines are all delicious and the tour is very very informative. We got to visit during the Cabernet Sauvignon crush and see the equipment in action. Love the glasses in the tasting room.

This place has it all. Hand down the best winery we’ve ever visited. We had a flat tire on our way there and the repair in tow was fast but not fast enough to get us there in time. No worries they made it work for us and we were sooo grateful. We missed the full tour but the tastings were all sooo god and our tour guide Jose- he was amazing. Knowledgeable, helpful and thoughtful. The views from the tasting room were also 10/10. And then lunch… ok that’s a different review but so so so so so so sooooo good!

We took a tour of the winery which gave a good overview of the grounds and their wine making process, and included a nice tasting. Beautiful winery and the best part had to be having lunch at the restaurant sitting right in among the vines.

This restaurant offers a seasonal menu that showcases the essence of fire-cooked flavors, promising an unforgettable gastronomic journey. The dedicated team of chefs crafts each dish with fresh, high-quality ingredients and herbs, resulting in natural and delicate flavors that leave diners speechless.
An unforgettable dining experience! This restaurant in Santa Cruz, Chile brings food to life with its open fire kitchen. The smoky flavors and perfectly grilled meats and vegetables were incredible. The atmosphere is rustic yet refined, with the open flames adding a unique warmth to the space. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to recommend the best dishes. If you’re looking for authentic flavors and a one-of-a-kind dining experience, this is the place to go!”

A truly hidden diamond! It's like a fairy tale with a happy ending - when you turn off the road, you have no idea what a culinary paradise you will find yourself in! The surroundings are very beautiful - vineyards are all around with a mountain panorama in the distance. The interior of the restaurant is elegant and transparent - during lunch or dinner, not only the palate, but also the eyes can experience pleasure. The cuisine is gourmet, all dishes are perfectly prepared. The service is very attentive and positive. I am glad I came here and I can't wait to visit again!

The Filet Milanese was forgettable even though it was recommended, dry and tasteless. Service not great they kept giving us dirty looks. Empanadas came burnt. Pasta and scallops were decent. Been to better places.

Pure magic. I’m sorry I didn’t take more photos of the food - we were so immersed in the experience. We started with a sparkling wine - due to my language error, I meant to order sparking water and ended up with sparkling wine. Luckily for me and my husband, it was an incredible misunderstanding as it was the best sparkling wine we have ever had. As for food, we started with the empanadas. Incredible. Juicy, flavorful, charred to perfection. We also started with the beet dish. Amazing. We shared the Canelon and the fish. 10/10 culinary experience. Book a reservation on open table. We went for lunch on a Saturday in October, right at 12:30.

We had a late lunch at Fuegos de Apalta. It was a welcome stop for us during a bike ride. It was great to match dishes with different Montes wines and to eat quite literally among the vines on a shaded outdoor terrace. The food, service, and setting are hard to beat, as the many superlative reviews attest.

We had an amazing lunch at Fuegos de Apalta… truly one of the best foodie experiences in ruta del vino. Our server Javiera was outstanding from start to finish, and our sommelier made the experience unforgettable with perfect pairings and thoughtful recommendations. Every dish was exceptional: libro de pera, the octopus, the lomo, and the tira de Wagyu were all perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The wines Chardonnay and Syrah complemented each plate beautifully, elevating the whole experience. The view over the vineyards during lunch was breathtaking, and the relaxed atmosphere made it even more enjoyable. A wonderful meal, excellent service, and world-class wine… highly recommended for anyone visiting Colchagua Valley!

We have been here a few times since arriving in Chile a few years ago. The decor of the restaurant is more upscale than a few years ago. The food is always very good. I prefer the meat dishes more than the none meat ones. The wine is excellent as well. Most importantly the ambiance of the place is worth the journey from Santiago.

(Translated by Google) The first time we went, everything was excellent; unfortunately, the second time left a lot to be desired. It took a long time to clear our table. We ordered our steak well-done, and it came raw. The grilled queenfish was noticeably out of date, as was the spring salad. We had to go to the counter with our glasses to get our drinks because we were finishing our meal and they hadn't arrived yet.
