Lots of stuff to see but very little in English and hard to find your way about, particularly to the machine hall - keep trying doors until you get in! We seemed to be the only people there.

We went on a tour at 3.00PM and we were the only ones. Guide Nicholas was really kind, answered all our questions, he spoke perfect english. You should not miss this, if you are in Fray Bentos, highly recommended!
Matija A — Google review
Very much worth a visit! Visiting the museum with a tour would be worthwhile (if - like us - you want to see as much of the derelict factory as possible), but it can be cancelled if wet and/or windy. But BUT the museum gives you access to the stunning old power plant room of the factory, which is worth the entrance fee itself! And you can wander almost the whole site after that (and peek through lots of cracks in doors, broken windows, etc. to see stuff that's locked away). It's a genuine adventure. None of the usual health and safety we associate with home - which leaves you with honest, super-rustic views and photos. We had it to ourselves, for the 2+ hours we were there! The museum itself is good. The main display area is slightly random - it doesn't "flow" in any particular way, and sometimes we had English translations, sometimes not. But it's still worth taking the time as there is lots of interesting history in this place! And a wander and nosey around the grounds is fab! 🙂

Wonderful spot, do not hesitate to go into the park and drive out of town from there back to the town. Just wow. Wild horses in that park too. Many people having Mate or doing a picnic

We turned up on a wet and windy day and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. We had a tour around the amazing facility and learnt so much thanks to the host who was able to explain everything in English to us. I always thought fray bentos was an English invention but you get to learn all about its origins in Uruguay, how it was an important source of food during the world wars and about how it affected the local area. Much like cadburys in the UK the town was built to house the workers and the facilities were very good compared to other areas in the country. We spent a few hours exploring and would thoroughly recommend making the visit if you are anywhere close to the area.

The rest of the work that was there was not the author's best in my opinion. The person in charge opened late, but took great care of us. It is typical of museums in Uruguay to put schedules on the internet that they do not comply with. That should improve. It gives a very ugly impression to the tourist. It's been a long time since I've had such delicious lasagna, and each dish had that special touch that only comes with years of experience. We were served by a very friendly woman who, in addition to being the waitress, helps in the kitchen and is the cook's sister. She told us they've been working at this place for over 35 years, and it shows in the quality of everything: from the food to the service. The restaurant is located where the Frigorífico Anglo used to operate, which is no longer operating as such. However, the area also has a museum, a university, and the place has been declared a cultural heritage site. A highly recommended visit if you're passing through Fray Bentos! (Translated by Google) I had a bad experience, especially my 86-year-old mother. It was last Mother's Day, when we went to lunch with her. I live in Mexico City and go to visit her, and we always go there for lunch. But that day it was packed, so we had to wait (and we don't complain about that then or now) for about 15 minutes outside. Then other people came by, and I went to say we were there first (something one of the women serving always ignored me), but the people sitting at the tables (dinners) politely offered us one of the tables they weren't going to use, setting it aside. So we settled in with the things on the tables from the previous diners anyway. We stayed like that for another half hour, and people kept coming in. There were two women serving, but they never came to our table, but they did see others who came after us. When one of those ladies was at the next table to serve us, my mom asked her if she could serve us, and she told her to wait. We continued like this for another half hour, watching her serve those she knew later and those she didn't know very kindly, while leaving those she didn't know behind, like us and other tables. It was very obvious the preferential treatment she received. So we decided to leave about an hour and a bit later, and as we passed by one of the ladies in charge, I saw her looking at my mom, who was walking with difficulty with my help, without even apologizing or saying, "Grandma, wait, let me serve you." No, she continued looking at her but didn't flinch. We weren't expecting preference or anything, just that we be served in the order we came in, respect as customers, and a little empathy. The fact that there were two of us doesn't exist for many people because I saw how she served those she knew first time and again. She lacked humanity and courtesy as a woman, or as a manager of an establishment. We left without eating at 2:30 p.m. on Mother's Day Sunday. Plus, we took a taxi there and back (which isn't cheap to the Anglo area because there are no buses on weekends), so we had an expense we were happy to pay if they served us. For my part, I'm never going back. I know they don't need to because they're doing so well. But I think Fray Bentos isn't a town, it's a city, and it's a tourist destination. This place clearly doesn't have that idea and sticks to cronyism and regular customers because they make money anyway. Everything I thought was good about this restaurant before has been overshadowed. The bad time we had that day weighs more than anything, coupled with the unflappable attitude of the lady, who didn't have a shred of courtesy, even though she knew she was doing wrong. Enjoy your meal, and I hope it doesn't happen to you again.

With its welcoming atmosphere, it's the perfect place to enjoy a meal with family in comfort, thanks to the air conditioning. Located conveniently just two blocks from the coast and one block from the plaza, it offers homemade dishes that are both generous in portion and reasonably priced. Guests rave about the friendly service and delicious food, including grilled dorado and salmon paired with fresh salads.

A strange, gargantuan place devoid of people. I liked the friendly staff, but the food was nuts: A steak with bacon, ham, cheese, and eggs on top of it? All I wanted was a steak!? Anyway, the food was okay, but the portions were far too big so I felt guilty not finishing everything.

(Translated by Google) The place is nice. the attention is good. Don't even think about ordering rabas or onion rings as a starter. The portions are tiny and ugly. On the other hand, the noodles with seafood sauce, the vogue and the house Milanese are very good and abundant. The price is somewhat expensive but if you are a foreigner and pay with debit they will discount 21% (Original) El lugar es agradable. la atencion es buena.

The pizza - superb. The place - a living museum. Talk to Andres the owner about the incredible history of this place and his family. It is not to be missed. And the brick oven - with cooks who are among the best - produces pizza that is unfathomably good. A must in this little pueblito. Absolute must!

(Translated by Google) The pizza was very delicious, terrible but terrible attention from the owner and the son (I guess) as if they were doing you a favor by selling you. They put the pizza as it came in the box. I do not recommend. No recomiendo.
