Outdoor Activities
Praia da Joatinga is an iconic beach located in a fashionable district of Rio de Janeiro. It has become popular on Instagram due to its impressive sunsets and stunning scenery. Although not as easily accessible as other beaches in the area, it offers a unique and private experience. The beach is situated within a condominium and offers breathtaking views, making it perfect for activities like rappelling along the cliffs. Visitors can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and purchase refreshing coconut juice from nearby vendors.
Hard to reach via Uber and even harder to get one to pickup from the bottom but strikingly beautiful beach. Very strong waves so be careful to go during low tide.
Steven S — Google review
Check for tide information online in advance. Come on low tide only. The beach is picturesque but hard to reach, I do not recommend for families with kids or older people. Wear comfortable shoes.
Lizaveta M — Google review
I don’t know my opinion was pretty lame. I expected much more than what it was granted it was high tide, but still even during low tide It wouldn’t been what I expected. Now the beach on the other side of the point there towards the west that was really nice. I’ll try to explore that one, but I would never come back to this one never say never but
Shawn R — Google review
One of the most stunning views in Rio.. It's like a remote beach where you have to pass through a condominium of houses. There is a cliff side where we practice Rapel and it was amazing. It was our first time doing Rapel, and the views were just amazing with helicopters passing from time to time and a beautiful beach near by.. They sell cold coconut juice near by so whenever your thirsty just go up and by for a couple of reais. Would definitely go back there
Miguel B — Google review
Joa Beach is a dreamy, romantic spot perfect for a getaway. It’s got easy access, though you’ll want to call an Uber to get there comfortably. The scenery is stunning—ideal for photos—but keep an eye on the tide, as it can sneak up on you. A beautiful place to make memories!
_ R — Google review
Sooo beautiful and not too crowded on a Saturday in March. Careful though the tides and waves are strong and dangerous if you wade in too deep!
Grace C — Google review
Amazing beach! I really loved and it wasn't crowed! Just be careful with the sea cause we almost lost our stuff! We were chilling and the wave came and make us all wet at the sand.
Camilla L — Google review
Lonely “secret” beach in an exclusive neighborhood in the heights of Jõa. May be a little difficult to get here but it’s worth a shot. The beach is small but the view is great.

If you're seeking a serene escape, the Trilha para Praia Brava da Trindade is an adventure you won't want to miss. This trail winds through the enchanting Atlantic Forest, where you'll be surrounded by vibrant flora and cool shade that offers respite from the sun. The path can be a bit intense and may feel narrow in spots, so tread carefully—especially after recent landslides.

Nestled in the stunning coastal region of Paraty, the Piscina Natural das Galetas is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This natural pool, formed by massive rocks along the shoreline, offers an idyllic setting for swimming and snorkeling among vibrant marine life. To fully enjoy its beauty without the crowds, it's best to arrive early—ideally before 9 AM—especially during peak season or weekends when visitors flock to this picturesque spot.

Jajigo Restaurante Praia Bar is a beachfront restaurant located at Ranchos Beach, offering a fusion of Japanese and Brazilian cuisine that creates unique and flavorful dishes. Visitors can enjoy excellent service and delicious food while also taking advantage of the beach amenities provided, such as chairs and umbrellas. Guests have praised the delectable Dadainho de Tapioca, Lula Jajigo, coconut rice, and banana crumbs.
Had my first moqueca in Brasil and couldn’t be any better! If you are vegetarian, I totally recommend the one with banana and palmito. Equally amazing was the service, Felipe answered my questions regarding the ingredients always with a smile on his face. Thanks for the delicious and peaceful lunch in front of the sea.

This restaurant served AMAZING food. Service is not fast because it’s homemade kitchen and not frozen plate. Staff is super lovely. View is amazing. I recommend 200%. Best address we went so far in Brazil ! 🥰
Estelle P — Google review
We stumbled across this place while visiting the beach. At first, we just wanted to sit down and enjoy some water and soda, but we ended up having a couple of beers and decided to stay for lunch and we’re so glad we did! The service was excellent. The staff went out of their way to communicate with us in English. They also had a Spanish-speaking staff member, which was a big help and made us feel even more welcome. We started with the fried tapioca, which came with a pineapple sauce. it was delicious and a great app to start. For our main dish, we shared the moqueca jajico, a fish stew that was absolutely fantastic. The portion was very generous more then enough for two people. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing, and the food really exceeded our expectations. If we lived nearby, we’d come here all the time. Highly recommend!
Angelina D — Google review
They forgot our food. We waited one hour until we reminded them and they didn’t even admit to their mistake after 2 tables that came half an hour later already had their food. We only ordered three snacks (all starters: salad, tapioca and a disgusting cold crab side dish), but they used it as an excuse that we “ordered it all at once” after the table that came afterwards was served two steaks. And for this worst experience in Brazil (which I love) we payed 45€.
Fiamma K — Google review
Amazing view, excellent service and all the dishes were incredible

The food (octopus, ceviche and palm heart salad) was delicious and very generous! It was the best palm heart of my life, so tender! And all that with a very good service and overlooking the sea!
Evens L — Google review
Incredible ceviche! The fresh fish cooked in lemon is the star of the show, the sweetness from the coconut shreds/mangoes and the crispy-homemade (sweet) potato chips. Coming back to try other dishes!
Abdallah R — Google review
Today was a rainy day in Paraty and we were slightly disappointed not to have that kind of sunny weather that calls out for a beach day. Jajigo restaurant tho managed to help us enjoy what was definitely the best meal we've had during our Brazilian trip. First we sat on the beach below a huge umbrella to enjoy the view of fishermen and seagulls while siping a delicious juice of pineapple and maracuya and a classic caipirinha with local cachaça. Later we were delighted to taste a wonderful grilled octopus and great squids and other seafood. Simply an unforgettable experience also thanks to the great staff. visit Jajigo and you wont regret it!

Day 2

Southwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the southwest side side of town. Start the day off with Cepilho beach, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Hiking trail to Cachadaço Natural Pool. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Cepilho beach

Beach
Cepilho Beach, also known as Praia de Fora or Praia dos Ranchos, is a secluded spot with calm waters, making it perfect for a relaxing family day out. It's located near Trindade village and can be reached by an easily accessible trail. The beach offers beautiful sands and is ideal for body surfing or swimming in slightly rougher waters. While the town is dedicated to beaches, it can get crowded during summer and weekends.
The north end of the beach in Trindade, Brazil is a special place, especially early in the morning as the sunrises and only a few people are walking the beautiful sands. It you like to body surf or just swim in a little rougher water, this is your spot. The entire town is devoted to beaches but can be very busy in the summer and weekends. Also, no one wears masks so I recommend avoiding town as much as you can, especially on weekends and after Christmas.
Shawn H — Google review
There are only a couple bars here so it isn't the best place to spend the day but the beach is nice and the waves are great.
Derek M — Google review
Amazing, consistent surfing! This is not a good swimming beach. There is a little restaurant/bar on the beach for between surf sessions. Trindade, which is a great little beach town to stop for food and drinks and swimming, is just a short drive down the beach.

Located in the protected reserve of Cairucu, Pedra que Engole offers an adventurous experience for visitors. This natural rock formation features a hole through which bathers can slide into a pool on the other side. The trail to reach this hidden gem is indicated by signs and takes you through a tropical forest along a river. The experience includes sliding through the water and enjoying a natural pool nestled between rocks.
Beautiful hiking in the heart if Mata Atlântica. The pedra que engole is scary, but the waterfall worth seeing and enjoying.
Ana M — Google review
Very close to the town itself, something like 500 meters. A small, small, muddy waterfall blocked by a large rock. If it were any further away, it wouldn't be worth the effort. Nothing more than nice.
Gad T — Google review
First of all it is a bit tricky to find, I needed the help of a local little boy to show me the way. Once you know where to go, you just can't believe you going to leave the place alive 😱 It is a bit scary and many people watching didn't dare to have a go, but it does worth the short hike, about 10 minutes from the beach 🏖 and the experience is great. I won't tell much, would be a spoil. But if you are nearby pay a visit and have a go.
Bruno F — Google review
There were a lot of side trails to go down into the water and have your own swimming area. We found one that had water running on a rock and it acted like a big slide. Tons of fun!
Haley M — Google review
One of the coolest waterfalls!! I was so scared at first, but it really wasn't a big deal. Super fun and you can't not go through the waterfall if you make it all the way here!
Kelli N — Google review
You have an amazing trail to go to "Pedra que engole". To be honest with you I didnt go dive in cuz I am terrified with water but my family loved. It is a very simple natural slide hidden under water (question how they found it is a mystery to me...) that will take you in a natura pool between 2 rocks 2 to 3 meters down from the entrance. The water is cold but nice and the trail to get there is easy but I do not recommend if you have back or knees problem...

Praia do Rancho

Beach
Praia do Rancho is a stunning gem nestled in the heart of Trindade, surrounded by lush nature and offering breathtaking views. While the trail leading to this picturesque beach can feel a bit monotonous after traversing Caixa D'aco beach, it’s worth the journey despite being crowded during peak season. The vibrant green waters and soft sands make it an inviting spot for relaxation, although visitors should be mindful of higher prices at local kiosks.
Many kiosks over the beach, and that attract a lot of tourist's, but anyway it's a amazing beach, with light sand and green water, many parking lot options over the beach. Nearby Camburi (Ubatuba-SP) and Paraty-RJ city, very know because of its historical importance.

Pedra da Praia do Meio is a stunning beach located in Trindade, Brazil. Visitors can also opt for a speed boat from Praia do Meio if they prefer not to hike. The beach is known for its tranquil atmosphere and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination in the area.
Awesome place. If you are visiting Parati, Trindade is one of top places here to visit, specially the beach named “praia do meio” which is a nature reserve. There is no commerce here, only a place to take a boat to visit the natural swimming pool called cachadaço. This place is one that you want to visit here!

This beach is much more quiet than the more touristic Dos Ranchi's beach, only a short trail away! But what a change in the scenery, with the big rock and the waves splashing against the rocks in the next beach, which is also accessible via a trail. A must visit when in Trindade!

Cachadaço beach is a stunning, wide stretch of coastline with a trail leading to natural pools surrounded by rocks and lush native vegetation. The hiking trail to Cachadaço Natural Pool in Trindade Village offers a serene and clean natural swimming experience among colorful fishes. The medium difficulty trail is well-marked with steps, handrails, and boardwalks over swampy areas. Accessible from the beach, the 30-minute walk is suitable for most visitors, although closed-toe shoes are recommended. For those seeking an alternative to the trail, boat transport is available for a fee.
(Translated by Google) Super easy trail! Even kids can do it. From this point on, it's a 15 to 20 minute walk, with some ups and downs to the natural pools. The trail starts at the end of Cachadaço beach. You can go by boat from Praia do Meio, I think it's R$40/50 round trip. You can go by trail and return by boat (R$20/30). From the end of last beach to the natural pool I walked 25 minutes one way (walking quickly but with flipflops on a really muddy ground). Easy to find, but not for a "beach stroll" - my friends returned halfway without visiting the pool. There are boats waiting in case you want to return by taxi boat.
Hahaha H — Google review
(Translated by Google) The trail will take you between 20 and 25 minutes. There are spots where you can stop to take photos and videos of the breathtaking scenery! In the natural pool area, which is a place where several huge rocks have gathered and the sea water gathers, meaning the water there is salty, forming a pool. No waves, no currents. Calm water, like a swimming pool, for you to enjoy. You'll see lots of fish swimming near you. It's totally worth it! For those who don't want to do the trail, because there are a lot of stairs, on the middle beach you can pay a man who stays there just for that purpose, with a boat, to take you there and bring you back. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the last time I went it was 50.00 round trip. You can also pay just to go, for example, and return by the trail. Then he'll only charge half.

(Translated by Google) The trail is full of incredible views. It is an easy/moderate trail, but it can be very dangerous if it has rained. I do not recommend it for seniors who are not used to exercising. There are points where we go up and down slopes, and it can be tiring. It is a trail of about 1.5 km (including the walk to the beach). But in the end, it is worth it. The natural pool is wonderful, shallow water for swimming and there are beautiful fish.

(Translated by Google) The trail is simply spectacular, with incredible views, preserved vegetation and a medium level of difficulty. Some sections are very slippery during the rainy season. It takes between 30 and 40 minutes, depending on the speed and agility of each person, as well as the flow of people in the area. The trail is a fundamental part of the experience for those who want to see the pools. I took a boat trip back (5 minutes), more for the experience of crossing the water. The pool is incredible, with many colorful fish. The water is cold and the landscape is sensational. I went in January and there were a lot of people, which made the water cloudy and scared away the fish. It is better to go in the low season. I highly recommend the tour. A água é fria e a paisagem é sensacional. Recomendo demais o passeio.

The canoe ride costs 25 reais per person. (Original) A trilha é bem estreita e perigosa. (Translated by Google) This trail is of medium difficulty (difficult for children under five and the elderly, and very difficult for people with reduced mobility), but it can be skipped if the tourist doesn't mind paying R$15 to go by boat (and another R$15 to return). The trail is well-marked, with steps and handrails in the more complicated sections. The swampy sections have planks that allow for easy passage. It should be avoided before or immediately after rain, as it is entirely muddy. Be careful of insects and the time of day you are hiking, as it is a trail in the middle of a reserve.

Wonderful lunch stop in an idyllic setting! We were sat watching the waves break on the most beautiful of beaches - served by the really friendly Edward. The food was fantastic - great flavours and generous portions, with various accompaniments. The fish with soy sauce and fish stew were chosen by our group and were delicious. There was even a live singer to add to the relaxing ambience as we lunched by the sea. Definitely worth the 20 minute walk from the bus drop off.

Good service and lovely views. Food is not great, rice wasn't freshly made. You can eat far better and far cheaper in town.

I had a great experience at Restaurante Casa Caiçara! The waiter spoke English and even had a few words of French, which was quite amusing. He was incredibly sweet and provided excellent recommendations while making us feel comfortable. One major advantage is that we could enjoy our meal while lounging on the included sunbeds, which was a huge plus. The food was delicious, with generous portions perfect for sharing between two people. The ambiance was pleasant and overall fantastic. It was a perfect dining experience!

Caiperinha were strong! Great service. Didn’t eat there so can’t comment on food but definitely worth a stop off at least.

Food was pretty good and the staff are nice. Only minus 1 star because it took over an hour to get our food and they took my coke away without me noticing before I had finished it. The cynic in me thinks the delays and taking the drink is a ploy to get you to buy more drinks but maybe not. They also take care but they charged us 15 for couvert... Not sure

The food is one of the best one can have in the area. It is a quite humble place but you will have a delicious experience. The servers are polite, however, they haven't attended any formal training. The ladies' has no lock which makes it very uncomfortable, to say the least. Despite some negative aspects I highly recommend it.

Food is very good without being outstanding. The shrimp bobo was really tasty. We were served relatively quickly. Unfortunately it was quite difficult to get a smile or any warmth from the waiting staff. If the customer service was improved it could justify the current high rating.

If I lived here, I'd have a different dish for lunch every day, as each one I've tried is simply a different experience and delicious. The Shrimp Stroganoff, Fried Squid, Baby Beef, Mignon Risotto, and Shiitake Mushrooms were all excellent. (Translated by Google) Simply fantastic! I asked the server if she could change the side dishes because I have a baby who was still starting solid foods. The server simply brought me a small plate of delicious mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables before ours even arrived so the baby could eat. And, what's more, she didn't charge anything extra for this kindness. We'll definitely be back; the food is delicious and the service is exceptional.

A Casa Restaurante e Pizzaria in Trindade is a fantastic dining spot with friendly staff and superb food. The prices are reasonable, making it a great value compared to other similar restaurants like Eataly. The vegan dish of the day is particularly outstanding, featuring beautiful mushrooms, tasty salad, beans, and fries at a good portion size and fair price. The atmosphere is amazing and the food is delicious with great pricing overall.

Great pizza straight from the wood burning oven will surprise you with local flavors and a pinch of tradition. Amazing place to go with the family, with fresh fruit juices and a good selection of local beer. Instrumental jazz music was the cherry on top, by the talented guitarist Java. It won’t disappoint you. 😊
