Ggantija in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Ggantija, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Ġgantija on the island of Gozo is home to some of the world’s oldest freestanding stone structures, dating back to the Neolithic period. This UNESCO World Heritage site features massive limestone temples with impressive megaliths and a mysterious prehistoric layout. A small but informative visitor center adds context with artifacts and exhibits explaining the people who built them. The surrounding rural landscape and views over Gozo make it easy to combine culture with a scenic walk or countryside exploration.
With favorites like Mġarr ix-Xini, Ġgantija Archaeological Park, and Salt Pans, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Ta' Saminu Bakery and Mojo's so you can get the best taste of Ggantija while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Museum
The Ggantija Temples, a UNESCO-listed archaeological site located in the village of Xaghra plateau, are believed to be the oldest freestanding monuments in the world. Dating back to 3600 BCE to 3200 BCE during the Copper Age, these temples predate famous landmarks such as Stonehenge and the Pyramids.
It's not spectacular as only so much survived to our times. Yet if you want to see the oldest megalithic construction in Europe, and learn about its history, it is a good place to visit for a as little as €10. We don't really have a clue how these huge stones were transported and lifted in place more than 6000 years ago, do we?
Tomasz P — Google review
Got there early so could read all exhibits and get around without too many people. Initial building is nice and lots of interesting exhibits that bring the temple to life. Super easy to get around. Really worthwhile visit.
Danny A — Google review
The temple was smaller than expected, so don't have expectations based on the name 😄 The small museum that you enter first is quite interesting, but there were two guided companies at the same time as us and they were loud and took a lot of space, so we had to go back to the museum afterwards to see the rest. If you want to get a feel of the place, set aside time to just be there (and maybe wait for guided tours to move on). If you are lucky and can be in one of the temple areas alone, you can better get a sense of the energy and history of the place. You can easily get through it in less than an hour, but if you have time, just enjoy the surroundings and the magical sensation of a temple older than the pyramids.
Michelle A — Google review
Oldest free standing manmade structures in the world! A thousand years older than the pyramids of Egypt! Excellent museum. Self guided tour around the walls
Daniel À — Google review
Interesting museum, great view on the way to the archeological site. Without rushing it tou can spend around 1,5 hours there. Tickets will also give you access to the old Windmill nearby.

Ancient site, good exhibition/museum exhibits. Friendly staff, gift shop and toilets. A very interesting visit. To think its so incredibly old!
Izzy M — Google review
So cool and old, you get to walk around inside the temple and get really close to the stonework. Stonehenge makes you stand way back away from it cos it thinks it’s so cordial

Truly impressive site. Amazing experience and great to visit in November without the hoardes of people and hot sun. The buildings have a stunning scale having survived so long.

Calypso Cave, a site believed to be the one mentioned in Homer's Odyssey, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and Ramla Bay. Visitors can also explore the Ta' Kola Windmill, an 18th-century windmill showcasing traditional Maltese technology. Xaghra, where the cave is located, is rich in history with attractions like the ancient Ggantija Temples. The area also boasts beautiful beaches and delicious local cuisine.
Nice place with great view of Ramla Bay. You can park for free, as everywhere in Gozo, and it's only a two minute walk to the viewpoint. Unfortunately the cave itself is closed, due to damages. It's also a great place to check if Ramla Beach is too crowded 😂🙂 If you like a little hike, you can walk down to the beach from here. The landscape and the valley are beautiful.
De K — Google review
Nice view but... ...the caves across the valley are much more picturesque (and free as well). The Calypso Caves are closed for entering and even the premium viewing deck was closed when I visited. Don't get me wrong, it is nice (and free) but save yourself some time and effort and go across the valley for a better view from caves that you can enter.
Ken W — Google review
The view is nice but there are better looking places just around the corner. The cave itself is closed as far as I can tell, it's the view from above
W̸͘͠ḩ̡o̕͢͠m̛̀?̸̡ — Google review
The Cave is not accessible anymore. But the view that surrounds the Cave is breathe taking.
Star W — Google review
Beautiful location off the beaten track in Gozo. As you make your way down into the cave you are met with a glorious view across the bay.
Adrian L — Google review
Cannot get to caves, but overlook offers exceptional views of Ramla Beach and shore line.
Kirk R — Google review
If you like walking and great views it's a fantastic walk from Marsalforn Bay up the big hill & towards the Caves / Ramla bay. Unstable caves are closed but still worth a visit for the views.
Adi H — Google review
Went to Calypso Cave a few weeks ago but it was closed. Looks like it's become unsafe so is fenced off now. Its a shame, I went to see it about 14 years ago and it was all open. Great views of Ramla Beach from up there though. There is a Cave the other side of Ramla you can still get to.

Bodies of Water
Ramla Beach, located on the island of Gozo in Malta, is a stunning reddish-sand beach overlooked by Calypso Cave. Visitors can relax on the beautiful golden sands or explore the remains of a Roman villa nearby. For those looking to explore more of the archipelago, sailing trips are available to visit other islands and snorkeling spots.
The beach was beautiful, filled with vibrant colours such as the red-orange sands and bright blue waters. The sand was so soft. The area seemed to be very well maintained as there was no litter around. The water was cool and it was pleasant to dip my toes in. However, in the water the floor was full of rocks so I would recommend wearing some type of flip flops. This was an amazing place to go to especially at sunset time as the views were amazing and the beach was pretty empty.
Fatima A — Google review
One of the best beaches in Malta and Gozo everall. I visited this beach on a very windy day with big waves and even the red flag raised. Still, some people were swimming. The beach was a bit crowded but very clean, and the sand felt incredibly soft.
Рахилка С — Google review
Beautiful and also imaculately clean beach. We spent only 2 hours here but enjoyed every moment. Two bars near the beach are okay and offer variety of food as well as drinks.
Marko P — Google review
The beach itself is okay, but unfortunately there's a lot of algae and other similar plants. Near the beach, there's a mountain with a cave.
Adam G — Google review
A very picturesque beach with an unusual sand color, almost like clay. There are umbrellas and sunbeds for €7 each. At the entrance, there is a toilet. You can also find a café to grab a snack or buy water. There are no changing facilities. The entrance to the sea is over rocks, but it’s very shallow and gradual, making it great for snorkeling.
Mary P — Google review
The sand is red-orange in color There are stones on the beach, as well as near the water.Be very careful not to hit yourself. The beach has sun loungers and umbrellas; for two sun loungers and one umbrella you will pay 21€.We didn't like it. It would be better to go to the blue lagoon. The beach is not for everyone.
Ita I — Google review
A nice contrast to the rocky beaches :) The downside - like any other beach I visited, this one also has no visible changing booths.
Ingars T — Google review
Ramla Bay truly took our breath away — it’s unlike any other beach we’ve seen in Malta or Gozo. The deep golden-red sand feels soft underfoot, and the wide open space gives it a peaceful, untouched vibe. Surrounded by green hills and natural beauty, it’s the perfect mix of sea and countryside. The beach is family-friendly, with gentle waves and shallow water ideal for kids. There are public toilets, a small café, and sunbed rentals, making it easy to spend hours here comfortably. Whether you’re walking along the sand, enjoying the view from Mixta Cave above, or just relaxing with your feet in the water — Ramla Bay offers a unique, calming experience you won’t forget.

Ramla Bay is a stunning sandy beach located on the east side of Gozo, Malta. Known for its large expanse of red sand, it is often considered one of the best beaches in the area. During summer, it can get quite crowded due to its popularity. The warm and clear waters of the Mediterranean make it an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing. Visitors can easily access the beach by local transit or on foot, enjoying breathtaking views along the way.
Beautiful beach with orange sand. The beach is not completely crowded, but be prepared to walk for a while to find a spot. Lifeguards are present at the beach. There is a possibility to hike up the cliffs beside the beach in order to reach a cave. This journey gives a spectacular view of the whole Ramla Bay. Just come prepared with proper footwear for the journey.
Patrick S — Google review
It's a smallish beach split into 2. But it is sand and easy to walk into the sea which was amazing. Warm and exciting waves. There's a couple of restaurants and public toilets and a shower. The bus was convenient but popular. I would love to come back.
Louise L — Google review
Highly recommend taking a ride on the hop on hop off shuttle which drops you off at the top of the beach where you can walk to the Mixta Cave. After a 15 min walk to the cave you can drop down a trail right onto the beach. The cafe at Ramla makes fresh seafood and snacks. Great soft sandy beach to hang out at for a few hours.

As beaches go, this was one of the prettiest ones.I have seen here. The day that we were there. The wind was so violent that there was red flags flying. However a lot of people were in the ocean they do have lifeguards watching over which obviously ignored the red flags. The sand is a deep caramel color it looks like crushed up biscuff cookies!!! The wonderful thing is that it has facilities bathrooms and showers and a small restaurant which we did not try. There is a company of men that put up lounge chairs and umbrellas add a cost. Write outside of the beach. We also found a very\nIndustrious man that obviously used his land for a parking for a fee of two euros. There are also several outlets with bathing suits and floaties and things like that if you forgot yours. The road to get there was a little bit harrowing for those of us that don't drive On the left hand of the road because the streets are very narrow and they are two way streets!!! Put all in all a very nice experience. HowEver there are a lot of rocks in the sand so it's hard to figure out where to put your towel if you decide not to get one of the deck chairs!
Noelle M — Google review
This was a truly delightful spot to spend a pleasant afternoon, where you could fully enjoy the entire ocean and the beach. The cave itself was an incredibly adventurous and truly unique natural wonder that you simply don't usually encounter at your typical beach. We are genuinely grateful that we took the time to go take a look up there and spend time at the beach.
Andrew R — Google review
A beautiful sandy beach. Definitely worth the effort to get there. Umbrellas and chairs for rent. Public showers and bathrooms are available.
Mark R — Google review
Lovely place to swim. The watter is shallow for maybe 10 metres, but always pay attention. Can be crowded sometimes and the sunbeds and umbrellas are going for around 7 euro each.
Moran V — Google review
Beautiful sandy beach iconic.....too many rocks and stones in sea - surely can be removed to enjoy it better. Now with showers and good public toilets. Good kiosks too

What a great place. Food was amazing and the guy that served us was very helpful and even showed us the ovens. Its great to see a bakery where you can see the produce being made.

Tremendous find a few mins off the ferry. Lovely pastry, excellent bread and a delicious pastizz to boot. Friendly service for us visitors. Genuine local spot. Really cheap (€5 for 6x small pastries, loaf of bread and a pastizz). There is a small playground a couple of meters up the road, perfect for kids. Card payment possible.

Overrated, you have to wait a big line to get worst breakfast ever. I asked for chicken pie and got chicken with pork bbq pizza. A lot of fly's inside sitting on baked goods. And not most respectful locals go there.

This is one of the last few traditional bakeries on the island. It’s easy to find as it’s on one of the villages’ main roads and there are always some people waiting outside for the next fresh oven bake. You will find lots to choose from, they have all sorts of local bread, pastries, etc. It’s a family-run bakery that goes back generations and they’re very passionate about their products. They have frozen goods that can be baked back at home, local type pizza and a vast variety of cakes including seasonal traditional pastries. Not a good shop to visit if you are weight watching.

Absolutely amazing, the bezt Bakery ive ever tried, all the staff where so friendly and explained what everything way and the food was to die for! Absolutely incredible!

This is an absolute local gem run by locals who care. Grabbed some super fresh and huge Ftira sandwiches for a cheap 3euros to go. Worth taking a detour from the tourist mess that is Victoria. The ambiance was super homely and locals were coming in and out around lunch time to grab loaves of fresh bread. You can see the team making it right there in front of you behind the counter! Cannot recommend enough.

Salt Pans are traditional sites for salt production, with geometric patterns of pans near the ocean. In Xwejni, on Gozo's northern coast, ancient techniques are used to harvest artisan salt from these pans. Visitors can purchase this unique salt from nearby shops. On Sicily's west coast near Nubia, travelers can explore the Salt Pans between Trapani and Marsala.
Beautiful view and really not busy when we went to visit- barely any people. Stunning view of the sea, and the salt pans are gorgeous. Had a lovely cocktail nearby.
Done K — Google review
Along Gozo’s rugged northwest coast, the centuries-old salt pans carve a striking geometric pattern into the limestone shoreline. Hand-chiseled by generations of local families, these shallow pools still produce sea salt using traditional methods passed down since the Romans. Visiting at sunrise or sunset offers breathtaking views as the golden light reflects off the crystal-lined pans. Watch as salt harvesters skillfully scrape the mineral-rich crystals—a backbreaking yet cherished craft. The nearby Salt Kitchen shop sells this "white gold" in its purest form, perfect for edible souvenirs. A testament to Gozo’s resilience, the salt pans blend natural beauty with living history. Free to visit, but respect the working areas.
Jack C — Google review
Very nice area to visit and walk around. Beautiful salt pans, easily accessible.
Рахилка С — Google review
So brilliant to see the salt being harvested. Great walking along by the sea. Great for swimming, relaxing and leisurely refreshments.
Liz C — Google review
Beautiful spot but you should we aware that Malta is a country where they hunt and catch birds, especially when the bird migration is going on, like now. They kill for fun and the hunts are not very well controled. Around the coastline you see these hunters everywhere. Birds in very small cages, hunters with riffles, speakers with birdsounds... We witnessed a lot of those spots and it is heartbreaking. We wouldn't have visited Malta if we knew this upfront.
Wendy E — Google review
Beautiful coastal walk along the water, interesting history regarding the salt collection. A nice family sells the salt directly at the location.
Joel B — Google review
As beautiful as the pictures...in Victoria, you can buy Gozo sea salt from here that's several hundred years old! The salt pans are a marvel of nature and located at the end of a pleasant walk or drive from Marsalforn--but I recommend walking for the air.
Danielle O — Google review
Nice bit of coast to see where salt is traditionally still collected over the summer months. Really interesting to see, nice walk along the coastline while you're viewing them. There's a cafe there and public toilets. We went in off season so plenty of places to park, but could see in the summer months that it would be very busy.

Ta Mena Estate is a charming farm near Xaghra, offering tours and wine tastings. The estate sells quality wine under the Marsamena and Ancient Gods labels, along with a variety of local products like Gozo sea salt, honey, olive oil, chutneys, capers, and sun-dried tomatoes in their well-stocked farm shop. Visitors can enjoy food and wine tours on Saturdays with prior booking.
Loved stopping by Ta Mena on our trip around Gozo. Marnes was very generous and offered free wine/liqueur tastings. She even made up some snacks for us to take to the beach later!

Wonderful small shop with wines, local jams, olives, honey, and fresh vegetables. The owner is welcoming and lovely.
Alyson B — Google review
Even though the wineyard is being renovated and everything happens in a small shop, the food was great (we loved the tomato paste and olive oil) and the tasting of their wines is free. Also the hostess is an interesting and funny woman that made the whole experience really enjoyable. High value products for the price. Highly recommended

This may be the most hidden of Gozo’s many gems. An incomparable experience of authentic Gozitan wine, food, history, and culture was had here. My wife and I were offered immeasurable hospitality and generosity as we were treated to Ħobż biż-żejt (bread with sweet tomato paste and olive oil), a wide variety of locally-produced red and white wine, Gozitan cheese, and gluten free sweets (my wife is celiac). As lovers of wine, we can say that this multi-generational family of grape-growers and wine-makers is producing some of the finest wine at the best prices on Gozo. Of equal quality is their homemade tomato pastes, jellies and jams, and sweet treats. Do not pass by their unassuming store front—there is excellence within.

Such a charming little store with fresh local produce, preserves, liqueur, wine, cheeses and more. Definitely go here if you’re around the area - the lady in the shop is so lovely and offered us a taste of her beautiful wines and fruit liqueurs, which were so unique and flavoursome. Go here while visiting Gozo!

We came on a Saturday afternoon, visited the farm and listened to Joseph share about the family history and experiences of running the Ta Mena Estate. It's evident that it's a hard business to run, especially with the high standards of organic production that they have. The wines and antipasti were delicious, especially the Rosé and the Gabillott (red) wines as well as the tomato paste! All around a great experience and excellent value for money!
Jana S — Google review
The estate is a bit different from the winery. As of 8/31/24, the estate is undergoing renovation. However, there is a small shack by the estate entrance where you can try the wines made here along with a lot of tomatoes, paste, and other items. The hostess was very nice and let you try the wines at your own pace.

Xerri's Grotto is a natural underground wonder located in the northeastern part of Gozo, near the capital Victoria. It features stunning stalagmites and stalactites formed over thousands of years by rainwater filtering through limestone. The cave was discovered in 1924 when a well was being dug, and now visitors can explore it via a spiral staircase illuminated by electric lights.
Very neat little attraction you would not expect in the center of a town. The story goes the man's grandfather was digging down to search for water and came across this cave. The stairs descend about 25 ish feet into the ground, and one thing that shocked me was how warm it was. Usually, caves in the ground are 70 degrees F, but this was closer to 80 or 85 degrees. Entry was only 3 euro per person and worth it for a quick stop.

Not very big, but worth a visit if you're nearby. The story - finding a cave while digging a well, and the spending years to dig it out - is fascinating. We were given a tour by the great-great-great-great-grandson 🙂

Pretty incredible little stop in the city, the two granddaughters of the man who discovered the cavern face a very good guided tour. Would recommend if you’re trying to get out of the heat for a bit.

Well worth a visit and very beautiful to see. The tour was great and very interesting. We were shown round by a little old Maltese lady who was the granddaughter of the man who discovered it while digging it out for a well. She told stories and the names of different stalactites and rock formations that have been passed down through generations. The tour lasted about 30 minutes and has no set price, all she asked is for a small donation minimum of 3 euros. But feel free to donate more as it's well worth it.

Lovely little grotto underneath the houses. Lots of other posts with info and I wouldn’t want to take away from the hosts presentation as we were shown around by a great, great (not sure how many greats) granddaughter and younger sister (?) of the man that first dug in to the grotto. Very sweet and worth a quick visit.
Bill L — Google review
One of the most unique experiences in Gozo. The cave is 8 meters below the ground, and the tour is led by a descendant of the man who discovered it, which makes it even more special. She explains things really well.

What a cool spot! Under someone’s house, you ring a bell and pay €3 and it’s a quick 10-15min guided tour
Jemima — Google review
Mary-Ann opened up the grotto and gave us a private tour. Originally dug out for a well to 14m in 1923 by her husband's grandfather, he instead found the grotto. For years he worked away to create a mini labyrinth of fascinating stalactites and stalagmites, opening to the public after WWII. What a great marvel, given the tools of the time. Definitely make time to stop by. For 3 euros, it's a "must do ".

Not impressive as a cave if you've been in one before, but impressive because of it's placement and history. We thought it was a scam when we saw the sign on a door in a building not far from the town square. Luckily we were spotted before we could turn around and leave, so we ended up having a lovely experience. We were shown down in the basement by the wife of the man whose great grandfather discovered the cave while digging for a well and then left it for people to enjoy. It had a certain magical atmosphere to step into a cave with stalagmites and stalactites below an apartment building. And the lady was a gem of information about culture and Gozo heritage. There's only room for a few people down there at a time and you only stay at the entrance of the cave, but you shouldn't miss out if you're in Xaghra. It's only a short walk from the Ggantija temple. You pay by donation so bring cash. They deserve it for sharing this experience with the public 😊
Michelle A — Google review
Nice ancient cave discovered by the owner of the house when he was digging and searching for water. Now his granddaughter is taking care of his legacy. Cheap access, only four euros per person, and if you like archeology you must visit this sight.
Rafa H — Google review
Not quite what I expected but still nice once you're in there. You have to go down a small passageway, ring a doorbell and a little old lady will let you in. It's just a room beneath a house where there's only enough room for about 4/5 people to stand.
Sean M — Google review
This is a free visit cave. Thanks to the lady, who gave me all details on how this cave was founded by her grandfather 130 years ago. This is a naturally found & well preserved cave. Only this disappointed me was, it's a very small cave of maybe 5000sqmeter approx. Also there are very limited public transits in that area.
Praveen K — Google review
I really couldn’t believe it. It is in a sweet lady’s house. She is amazing and has a lot go tell about the cave. The entrance fee is a donation of your choice to charity. Amazing and spontaneous interaction
Jens — Google review
Lovely cave in the basement of someone’s home!! When I arrived there was no one there but a bell to ring, and a lady came from next door and gave a me a tour and the history of her family. 2€ donation but totally worth it.
Alaina R — Google review
A beautiful cave located under a family house. The guide has a beautiful story about how the cave was found by her great grandfather. The cave is also free which was nice. As a whole experience it was very nice and personal. Really recommend to go if you are around this area.
Tia N — Google review
Totally mind blowing that Guzepp Rapa discovered this in 1888 when digging for a water well to build his house. Fantastic that his grand-daughter (an elderly lady) is still showing people round and sharing her family story.

Mojos is a Mediterranean restaurant in Victoria, Gozo. It offers breakfast and lunch dishes as well as pizzotto variations for dinner. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the food is delicious. Wheelchair accessible facilities are available.
Each meal we tried was amazing. Their seasoned fries are a must try.
Jazz476 — Google review
Tried the focaccia and burger for lunch on separate days and they are really tasty. The sweet chili cheddar chips are also a delightful treat. I always eat lunch here whenever I am in Victoria, simply because the establishment is attractive and easy to reach, food is fresh, portions are great, and the service is kind and spot on. Flavoured iced coffees are great too!

Tasty food, variety of options, big portions and quick nice service. We tried a vegan wrap with chickpeas which was tasty, a little bit on a sweet side, but nicely packed and filling. Nice that it was served with a salad, but it had just a little bit too much balsamico dressing. We also had a pizzoto with bacon, parmesan and spinach. The portion was enormous with a lot of filling inside and nicely baked. Overall we were satisifed with everything and we would defintely come back.

Great food. Great service. And great value for money. This place is amazing! I had the mini cooked breakfast and loved it. Didn’t take long to get served and the waiters were very polite. Would definitely recommend coming here.
Ronan V — Google review
Starting with the good things, this place has portions bigger than I expected. Freshly squeezed juice options were great, and overall the food was delicious. Option to pay by card is there. Some drawbacks - they didn't have two things that we wanted from the menu, staff seemed a bit cold in terms of communication and the wait time was not short. Overall, I was still happy with my experience here.

Great service, delicious and abundant food. The ingredients are genuine and fresh. We order the homemade hibiscus kombucha, a smoothie, the sicilian pizzotto and the chicken burger with their sweet chilli and cheese fries. Every item exceeded our expectations and it is definitely highly recommended!!

Cafe
Café Jubilee is a beloved dining spot in Gozo, having captured the hearts of locals since its establishment in 1998. Nestled in the heart of Victoria, this charming café bar boasts warm interiors adorned with elegant furnishings and unique decor. Just a stone's throw from the Grand Melilla Fortress, it offers a cozy escape from the bustling tourist areas.
A charming old café with a cozy, timeless feel and exceptional service. The staff are warm, attentive, and make you feel like a regular from your very first visit. On rainy days, it becomes the perfect hideaway—steamy windows, hot drinks, and the soothing sound of rain outside. A true comfort spot.

We visited this quirky little cafe after visiting the Citadel on Gozo. The service was swift and friendly. All the food we had was very nice and reasonably priced. A great little cafe to visit and enjoy a wide variety of dishes.

I’d say this is quite a local gem! 💫 The food was rather average, so maybe my choice wasn’t perfect — but the place itself has a great local vibe and atmosphere. If you’re looking for something truly Maltese in spirit, this is definitely one of the top spots to visit. 🇲🇹✨

Came here for a quick bite and some drinks, and I gotta say we left with the biggest smile on our faces. The terrace is beautiful, accompanied by relaxing jazz music that makes you feel like you’ve traveled back in time. Such a lovely experience, if we’re ever back in Gozo, we are definitely stopping here.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like L-Irdum Ta' Ċenċ. Not quite as popular as Xerri's Grotto, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 6 hours.

Ta' Ċenċ Cliffs is a stunning natural attraction on Gozo, perfect for nature lovers and hikers. The sunset views are breathtaking, but it's important to arrive early as access may involve crossing private properties. The cliffs are easily accessible by bus from Victoria/Rabat and offer an easy, flat walk with rocky terrain. While the heights may be intimidating for some, the mesmerizing views make it all worthwhile.
Wonderful spot to watch the sunset. Walk to the cliffs is super easy & flat (rocky, but just watch your footing). I’m not good at all with heights, but you wouldn’t know you’re on top of a cliff until you start getting to the edge - where you can can still stay back and enjoy the views. Entrance is through a road marked private property - about a 20 min walk. When you reach the pathway follow straight ahead, don’t take the one on your left
Samantha C — Google review
With a little hike, you can see such gorgeous view. Pick a less windy day, go to Gozo! Would be nice to watch sunset here as well.
Ziling Z — Google review
It’s a very calming experience being here. You can travel here by bus and will have to walk 10mins or so to get to the cliffs.
Vaishali S — Google review
Wow! The view is priceless. You can either come from Ta' Ċenċ (10 minutes on foot from the bus stop), or you can take a beautiful 3h hike from Mgarr (which we did and it was the highlight of our stay I Malta). The cliffs are just stunning.
Petr B — Google review
We went to see the sunset there and it was incredible.
Aurélie D — Google review
Beautiful. It was a reminder of the Cliffs of Moher at home - but better weather
Aoileann C — Google review
Difficult to find the way - somehow after the parking lot of the spa hotel just going in the direction to the cliffs
Julia H — Google review
Very nice place if you like nature and hiking. My partner and I witnessed the sunset in November, it was windy but gorgeous. I'm afraid of heights, but I managed to walk fine, but cautiously. Do keep in mind: -if you want to see the sunset, do get there ahead of time!! (as you have might have to cross privately properties) -it might not be easy to get to the cliffs (you might need to cross private property) -if you are afraid of heights, the cliffs and views might be too much/frightening

Mġarr ix-Xini is a secluded pebble beach nestled in a rocky cove, known for its popularity among scuba divers and swimmers. It gained fame as the filming location for the movie 'By The Sea,' starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Visitors recommend arriving early to avoid crowds, especially on weekends when tourist vans and diving groups flock to the area. Accessing the beach can be challenging due to narrow, steep roads with limited parking.
One of our favourite spots on the island. Far quieter than other more popular areas but was far prettier. Beautiful water, a couple of bars (food was cheap too), chance to take kayak/peddleboat out and some great snorkeling. Spent around 3 hours chilling, swimming and drinking. Very steep hill to get in and out, some cars were struggling (just be aware).
Jack R — Google review
Great beach for swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving. In adverse weather conditions such as strong westerly winds can be one of only a few beaches that are safe to use. Great seaside Restaurant on the sea front.
Stephen R — Google review
Lovely place to swim if you have the rubber shoes( bottom is rocky), and come by motorcycle/ bicycle. Parking is an issue here, not much space but people come and go so you’ll eventually grab a spot.
Agnieszka M — Google review
A beautiful hidden cove with a small pebble beach. There is the option to rent a sunbed with an umbrella (2 sunbeds + umbrella = €15). The water is crystal clear. We visited in the afternoon, and there were few people. Further out, the water is deeper and still so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom. If you’re coming by car, there’s a large parking (free) lot available. We came by Bolt. ☺️
Michaela F — Google review
This is a beautiful beach, much better than xlendi or others. I really enjoyed swimming here however the slope was very scary for the car so I parked s bit further away. It's a small beach but so lovely and calm and beautiful colours. Definitely worth going to visit and swim in 🏖️
Elizabeth Y — Google review
A tranquil little beach in Gozo, perfect if you’re looking for a peaceful swim. The waters are crystal clear and absolutely beautiful. We got there around 11am and it wasn’t busy at all, which made it even more enjoyable. There’s also a small café nearby and some water sports available, so you’ve got everything you need for a relaxing day.
Sofie S — Google review
Gorgeous small beach with snorkeling and jumping from rocks into the sea with a small shed for refreshments worthwhile! Be warned steep road down
Kieran B — Google review
If it weren't for the incredible beauty of the place, I wouldn't give it such a high rating, access is not so easy for those who are going as a driving, with access from a super narrow road it’s a little challenge to get to, nothing impossible but hard for some drivers. But the beauty and structure with bars and water entertainment are wonderful.

Customers appreciate the brand new and powerful ATVs that allow them to navigate the island easily. Visitors highly recommend this activity as it provides a unique journey while discovering beautiful landscapes. The staff's valuable advice and assistance contribute to making it a great day out in Gozo.
Prince was of great help to us and had us set up in no time with the paper work and straight onto the quad to venture Gozo. Prince supplied us with a map of all sights to see’s with additional do’s and dont’s and suggesting the best route to round up the evening. Quad was exceptionally comfortable for two people and was great help through some of the tight and hilly roads we experienced. Overall great experience and will recommend.
Robin M — Google review
Great day, good instructions on the day, take photos before and after to show condition of the quads. Easy to book. Lots of luggage space if needed. Only not 5 stars as very expensive deposit required €450 per quad seemed a bit excessive. We had a great day though and would use again, easy access from the bus stop.
Hayley — Google review
My wife and I decided to book a quad for the day while we were on the way to the airport in the US for our trip to Malta. The booking experience was very easy. Cost and deposits were clearly explained. Once on Gozo, our phones really didn't work well, but with minimal effort we made our way to the rental location on time. We were greeted in a friendly manner, took care of the requisite paperwork, and received very clear instructions. I really appreciated the carrier on the back of the quad to store our backpacks etc. The rest of the day my wife and I enjoyed one of the best highlights of our trip. Using the quad, I was able to get into places that were challenges to cars. We visited every site on our list. Our experience was 10/10. If we visit again, this will be a must do.
John B — Google review
We rented a quad and were absolutely thrilled! Our contact person, Prince, was incredibly friendly and helpful – he even waited longer for us because we unfortunately missed our ferry. Despite the delay, he still took the time to explain everything to us thoroughly. And the quad itself? Hands down the coolest one on the entire island! Great condition, super stylish, and an awesome ride. We’d book again in a heartbeat – highly recommended! Huge thanks to Prince for the amazing service 🙌🏼🔥

Fantastic shop. Excellent guides. Expert knowledge of diving in Gozo and anticipate the needs of technical divers. We had a fun time diving with their fleet DPVs as well! They even gave us the option to do some boat diving to break up the shore dives. They were very flexible too in terms of dive locations and always had a backup plan in case the wind wasn’t cooperating. They were not just professional but they were also so much fun to spend time with. Can’t wait to come back and do it all over again!!!

Tom Steiner and Gozo Technical Diving it's without a doubt the place to go if you look for excellence in Technical Diving. Superb diving and teaching skills. 10/10
Enol M — Google review
Gozo Technical Diving left us with a disappointing experience after a 6-day diving trip with 4 divers, including 3 CCR divers and 1 OC diver. We had clearly communicated in advance that we wanted to dive on historical wrecks, which was initially confirmed for around €500 per dive. However, upon arrival, the price suddenly increased to €750, and it had to be split between more divers, who eventually showed up only at the end of the 5th diving day, and didn’t even want to do a wreck dive. This led to poor planning and unmet expectations. The owner, Tom Steiner, didn't seem enthusiastic. He showed little involvement, didn’t ask about our experiences, and didn’t offer any tips or advice. Despite paying for unguided dives on top of the equipment rental, there was a clear lack of passion and customer service. For the price you pay, you expect better organization and service. Fortunately, the rest of the staff was friendly, and we met other divers on site. However, the promised wreck dive with the boat never happened. Overall, it was poorly managed by Mr. Steiner, who seemed to prefer smoking his cigarettes at the dive center rather than engaging with his clients.

Nestled within the historic Citadel in Victoria, the Gozo Museum of Archaeology invites visitors to delve into the island's captivating past. Housed in a beautifully restored 17th-century townhouse that once belonged to the Bondi family, this museum showcases an impressive array of artifacts that span from prehistoric times through to the medieval era. Each exhibit is thoughtfully curated, offering insights into Gozo's rich cultural heritage and early civilizations.
The Citadel is an interesting place to visit. Walking through the narrow historic streets and looking at the Victoria skyline is an unforgettable adventure. The archaeological museum is worth seeing.

Small museum with some interesting displays. Less than one hour to see the displays.
Jean L — Google review
The museum has poor exhibits and not great information. It took around 10 mins to traverse. It was free as part of the combined ticket (see below), but I think it's not worth the time unless you have a significant interest in archaeology. Entry to the museum is €5 on its own (not good value) or €13 as part of a combined ticket that includes 5 Citadella museums (Citadella visitor centre), museum of archaeology, old prison, Gran Castillo historic house, and nature museum) as well as the Ggantija Archeological park (€10 on its own, making the combined ticket worthwhile) and Ta Kola windmill.

The Gran Castello Historic House is a collection of interconnected 16th and 18th-century homes that offer a glimpse into historical life on the island. The museum showcases exhibits on trades, crafts, and hobbies from centuries past. Visitors can explore fully furnished period houses, learn about local folklore and history, and admire the stunning architecture. The museum provides an excellent explanation of the way of life during that time period and offers beautiful views from its location in Citadella Ir-Rabat.
Bought the Cittadella Combo Ticket. €13 adults/ €9 seniors and students with proof of student ID / €7 children under 11. This price bought entrance to the Cittadella Visitor’s Center, Gozo Museum of Archaeology, The Old Prison, Gozo Nature Museum and the Gran Castello Historic House. All of these places were visited and the grounds were walked within a period of two and a half hours without any stops for bathroom, coffee or food. There are plenty of bathrooms and areas to eat, drink or snack. The Gran Castello Historic House is a walk through of a life. There are bedrooms, kitchens, baby rooms, etc. if you enjoy period furniture and imagining the lives of the people before you, then you will enjoy this exhibit. You must traverse steps. We went on an off season so there wasn’t that much traffic but during high tourist period I can imagine it would be more difficult to get past people in the hallways unless they restrict and control the number of visitors entering and exiting. There is a video in the bedroom that runs continuously. The rooms open up onto a beautiful vista and garden. A bathroom is within this area. It is a lovely spot.

This old-house-now-museum spans across a number of floors (not suitable for disabled visitors) and a labyrinth of rooms. There wasn't a huge amount of information about the rooms and their uses in the museum. It took around 20 mins to traverse. It was free as part of the combined ticket (see below). Entry to the museum is €5 on its own (not good value) or €13 as part of a combined ticket that includes 5 Citadella museums (Cittadella visitor centre), museum of archaeology, old prison, Gran Castillo historic house, and nature museum) as well as the Ggantija Archeological park (€10 on its own, making the combined ticket worthwhile) and Ta Kola windmill.

A must visit in Gozo. It is free to enter and walk around the perimeter wall which has spectacular 360 degree views of Gozo. There an entrance fee of 5euros per adult, children and students £4euros to enter the Cathedral which includes the museum. Be aware mid afternoon in July it is very, very hot with nest to no shade or breeze.
Aaron S — Google review
Located in the Citadel, the real draw is the picturesque courtyard / balconies in this small museum. This is included with some other small museums as part of the Citadel visitor ticket. (€5)

Recommended visit to see a collection of items related to Gozitan history in terms of folklore, food, tools, furniture, and other antiquities. It is worth getting the ticket to visit the museums Gozo from Heritage Malta, as this is one of the spaces included.

We had a lovely day here, we paid for entry which gave you access to the 5 museums. They are all beautiful kept, the whole place is stunning and worth a visit even if you don’t go in the museums.

Situated on a small square near the Cathedral and Courts of Justice, the Old Prison offers a glimpse into its history as a confinement for criminals from the mid-16th to early 20th century. The cramped cells and historical graffiti on the walls provide an eerie yet fascinating experience. Visitors can witness inscriptions and drawings left by cellmates in the 19th century, offering a unique perspective on life within its walls.

All of these places were visited and the grounds were walked within a period of two and a half hours without any stops for bathroom, coffee or food. There are plenty of bathrooms and areas to eat, drink or snack. The Old Prison is a rather small exhibit with a wealth of information. It is well worth visiting to learn who was held here, why, when, and how they lived. There is a small gift shop near the entry. It took twenty minutes to walk through the exhibit during an off season.

The museum is very basic, though I found the little information available quite interesting. It took around 10 mins to look around the prison. It was free as part of the combined ticket (see below). You can go in one of the prison cells, and see into a couple more (the entire prison is 6 cells, two hallways, and another open air room.

Small but nice bit of history to see, the whole area is free for the most part and the small cost to go into a couple of the buildings was worth it.

This museum was included in the very advantageous and recommended thirty day Heritage Malta Multisite Pass. It was worth visiting while at the Citadel, with some interesting historical context and graffiti in the cell.

Not very big, but still worth a visit and a photo in the stocks!

Small passage between prison cells, you can go inside one, there are old markings, writings and sketches of ships, very interesting, whole experice takes max 10 minutes. Not bad, but also not missing out on anything special. Entrance fee is 5 euros, is valid for 2 more museums in the citadel ( but not the cathedral ). Museums are very small.

I personally love in historical sites the « people like me lived here once » vibe. This is a place like this. What I loved about it is that you get to see all the graffiti’s that cellmates from the 19th century drew into the wall, that is pretty amazing if you are into this kind of things

Citadel Ruins

Historical landmark
The Citadel Ruins in Gozo, also known as the Cittadella, is a well-renovated venue with stunning panoramic views of the city and the entire island. The medieval structure dates back to 1500BC and offers visitors an unforgettable experience as they wander through its walls, passages, nooks, and crannies. The citadel is well-maintained and free to visit, providing a charming glimpse into medieval life.
Magnificent architecture Hugh walls offering panoramic views of surrounding area. Contains archaeological museum gozo cathedral and many other buildings. Got ferry from mainland Malta then bus from there to Victoria.

Make sure to check out the country house and the prisons! The panoramic video will mostly show you what you could learn from the screens already, so decide if A/C blasting at your head with gale power is worth it. Check out the historically accurate souvenirs like a knight hospitalier with a dragon wings crossguard on his sword or the one with a tsuba!
Michał L — Google review
The Cittadella, often called the Citadel, to be the magnificent, fortified crown jewel perched high above Gozo's capital, Victoria. This ancient city offers one of the most essential cultural experiences in the Maltese archipelago, and I would say a visit here is mandatory for any traveler to Gozo. Its primary draw, however, is the incredible 360-degree panoramic view. I had the privilege of walking the ramparts at night, which truly enhanced the whole experience. From up there, I could effortlessly trace the sparkling lights of the entire island, taking in the dark rural valleys and scattered villages, feeling a real sense of fun and awe as the Mediterranean Sea stretched out into the distance. The photo opportunities, even after dark, were unparalleled, and the view alone justified the journey up. Historically, walking its narrow, limestone-lined streets immediately transported me back centuries. Inside the formidable walls, I explored the stunning Baroque Gozo Cathedral and several excellent small museums (like the Gozo Museum of Archaeology). While much of the city has undergone significant restoration, giving it a somewhat pristine and modern feel in places, the vast scale and the rich historical narrative remain firmly intact. It's a beautifully preserved monument that perfectly encapsulates Gozo’s spirit and offers a fantastic blend of history, architecture, and unparalleled scenic beauty, truly making it the undeniable heart of Gozo.
Panayiotis M — Google review
Visited on a sunny afternoon and it’s easily one of the most striking spots in Gozo. The views from the top are panoramic—rolling hills, rooftops, and sea in the distance. The restored stonework and winding paths give it a timeless feel, but it’s also well-maintained and easy to explore. Not crowded when we went, which made it feel even more special. Great for a slow wander, a few photos, and soaking up the history without the usual tourist rush. Definitely worth the climb.
Rashaad — Google review
Beautiful Cittadella, free to enter and walk around. Try and avoid the middle, these streets were designed to be complicated and difficult to find your way out. Best to walk up the street on the left hand side of the church, walk along the side of the church to the far wall then up the stairs onto the ramparts, this will bring you back around to the clock tower at the front entrance. You will get plenty of photos up there. Not for those who don't like heights.
Berglas71 — Google review
It was an amazing opportunity to explore this major landmark in Victoria. To learn about the Cittadella is also to learn the history of this country. I recommend checking out the museums if you want an immersive experience, because there are a lot of places to visit in such a tiny city. Nearby the walls, you can see almost the entire island and parts of Comino and Malta, because the Cittadella was build on high ground.
Luiz M — Google review
The Citadel is worth a visit but beware there are steps involved and the lift was out of order due to that section being renovated. Once in there you will find lots of artifacts and the views are beautiful.
Trevor P — Google review
It’s a must. If you enjoy history and culture and visiting small but interesting museums this is the place along with gift shops and places to get cold drinks also there are some public toilets.

Victoria, also known as Rabat, is the capital of Gozo Island in Malta. The city is famous for its medieval Citadel with fortified walls and the Gran Castello Historic House, which serves as a folklore museum. Visitors can explore prehistoric stone sculptures at the Gozo Museum of Archaeology and admire the richly painted ceiling of the baroque-era Gozo Cathedral. Additionally, the 16th-century Old Prison features walls adorned with etchings by former inmates.

Sphinx Pastizzeria is a must-visit spot in Gozo, offering amazing pastries that are among the best in Malta. Located close to the Victoria Bus terminals and on the way to the Citadella, it's a convenient stop for delicious treats. The chicken and bacon pastries come highly recommended. Despite being one of many similar places on the street, Sphinx stands out with its consistently fresh and hot snacks that attract queues of customers.
A must try... If you are visiting Gozo, you must definitely stop and try some amazing pastries from Sphinx. Located very close (less than 100 m) to the Victoria Bus terminals, it is on the way to the Citadella. The chicken and bacon pastries are absolutely incredible. I won't hesitate to say that the pastries we tried here were among the best in Malta.

I stopped by Sphinx Pastizzeria in Gozo and grabbed 3 cheese pastizzis, they were unreal. Perfectly flaky pastry, golden and crisp on the outside, with a warm, creamy ricotta filling that just melted in my mouth. Simple, traditional, and absolutely delicious. If you’re anywhere near Victoria, do yourself a favour and try one (or three). This place is a gem!

We had a great experience at Sphinx Pastizzeria in Victoria! They offer a variety of delicious local snacks like pastizzi, arancini, and ftira — perfect for a quick and tasty bite. The staff were super friendly and took the time to explain the different local delicacies to us. It’s a fantastic place to enjoy authentic Maltese flavors in a relaxed and casual setting. Highly recommended!

Alyssa M — Google review
I should have read the reviews before coming here, as unfortunately I too faced the poor service this chain is famous for. On one of the Saint George feast days some friends and I decided to stop here on the way back to the parking lot. It was around 11:30 pm. I was surprised to see pastizzi in the display that late. I asked the employee if these were fresh. She quickly became agitated and confrontational, raising her voice. I tried to amicably defuse the situation and said that I was just asking a simple question. She kept going on, making a scene, complaining multiple times that she was here working at midnight and had to deal with questions from customers. I later thought to myself that I found her point a bit odd seeing how she chose to move literally half-way around the world and to then take this job. She continued making a scene, so I informed her that I won't be spending my money there, and I turned around, and we all walked away. I knew what she was trying to do as I've seen this before when I lived abroad for many years. Its a tactic of a certain part of the world, where they make you feel that you did something wrong so that you feel guilty and spend more. If you are a tourist or a local who is in search of real local food then do not shop at this large corporate chain that has absolutely nothing local about it. Do not give them your business, and do not accept this rude and disrespectful behavior. If you accept it then this will be the norm going forward. You are better off shopping at a real bakery in one of the villages, where ftira is not incorrectly pronounced as "fatira". To the owners of this chain, if you hire garbage then that is exactly the type of service your customers will receive.

The Museum of Toys is located in Xaghra, Gozo and offers a nostalgic trip for visitors born since the 1950s. The museum showcases toys from that era, evoking memories of childhood playtime. Visitors can find familiar toys displayed in glass cases and even have the chance to interact with some carefully selected toys. The friendly and knowledgeable staff provide insightful explanations about the exhibited items.

A brilliant place for people born since the 1950s, they'll find lots of toys they played with. It brought back lots of memories of the toys I played with then, both mine and my slightly older friends in the village. The people who run the museum are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I'll certainly be visiting this museum again, the next time I'm on Gozo, because I'm sure I missed lots of things with spending so much time reminiscing on the toys. Thank you for taking me back 60 years.

This was just another treasure we found on an adventure to Gozo during our family visit to Malta! It seems like this museum is in the middle of a quiet neighborhood- no big crowds. It was quaint and intimate. Of course, my 4 daughters (ages 1-11) were all thrilled to look at each an every one of the toys. And, we were not too surprised to learn that Edward Lear loved his visits to Gozo just as much as we did. Best for me, though, was having a chance to chat with the woman working there. I love getting to know more about the area we are visiting by chatting with locals. She was working on making a special kind of Maltese lace, which also interested me very much! She was so warm and welcoming. It's worth spending some time in this sweet museum to soak up some history!

"Gozo Unveiled - Hiking in Gozo" offers a variety of coastal paths that encircle the island, making it ideal for novice hikers. While most trails are relatively easy, caution is advised along cliff areas due to potential hazards.
Today was the time for a "new perspective" on Gozo. Instead of putting our heads under the surface of the blue ocean🌊 (we are here for diving), we explored the beauty of the island on a 5 hour hike 🥾, guided by Josette Farrugia (dive instructor as well! 🤙🏻). It was an amazing tour with stunning views 👀 over rough walls, former buildings, green valleys and azure blue bays, mixed with a lot of additional information about the gozian culture, language, history, flora and fauna (I saw a wild living chameleon for the first time of my life! 🤩). 🌴⛱️🌺🐦☀️🕶️ THANK YOU, Josy, for showing us your beautiful homeland and creating a fabulous day for us! 🙏🏻♥️

Ta' Philip Restaurant is a top recommendation in Malta for excellent food and service. The menu has a wide variety of dishes, from traditional Maltese food to more mainstream options. The wine cellar is especially impressive, with a great selection of wines from all over the world. Reservations are highly recommended.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ta Philip Restaurant, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The food was simply outstanding. I particularly recommend the Suckling Pig - it was cooked to perfection, with crispy skin and succulent meat. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring everyone left feeling satisfied. The ambience of the restaurant was lovely, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service was also top-notch; the staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Overall, I highly recommend Ta Philip Restaurant for anyone seeking a truly memorable Maltese dining experience. It's the perfect place to enjoy delicious food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere.

Loved it here. The little higher price from other restaurants is totally worth it. The place is really nice and from the peek I took from upstairs the bar downstairs looks amazing. Had a birthday dinner and we where around 15. Great atmosphere and the food was good. Sorry about the messy plates but i had to try the meat before the photo. It was kangaroo which i never tried before. It is not on the main menu but on the specials. BE AWARE of the specials as there are some great choices which are written on a board. I liked the attention to detail which helps you to have a lovely night. As we were a large group most of restaurants try to save on the sides but here he brought enough to share well between us. Not to mention the bread with the amazing paste which i had to take a picture of 🤤. Also soft drinks in glass bottles which is better and has a good selection of wine. Nice staff and friendly owner. Recommend for a nice evening to hang out in the restaurants with family/friends. If you like fast service to just eat and leave not sure this is the best place.

A place with a beautiful ambience inside and out. It is sea facing. It’s a beautiful place for a date night. We chose to go there seeing the google rating and was never dissatisfied. Service is very polite and friendly. Food was delicious. I have shared some pictures of what we had. The cocktails aren’t that great. But the restaurant has a huge collection of wines. Food is well decorated and tasty as well. After all why I give a 4 star is because I was disturbed by many flys.
