Beautiful beaches and ocean views. Water was VERY warm, like a hot tub in places. If walking out to the tail when it's not quite completely dry, watch for rocks and or follow others navigating the path. Wear water shoes in this case.

Great park, good hike, dramatic nature. Much friendlier than Manuel Antonio, and cheaper too. Quite laid back. The hike at low tide is fun, but the highlight for us was the gorgeous wild forest on the shore.

This beach is so beautiful! Try to go at least once at low tide to walk out to the rocky "whale tale" for a unique walking experience - the tide was still slightly high when we were there some small waves come from both sides of you as you walk in the shallows. It's worth going to see.

Time your visit for low tide. (And don’t listen to Google about low tide— it led me completely astray.) Google said low tide would be 12:36 so we arrived at 11:30, only to find out low tide was actually at 4pm. There’s hardly anywhere to go at high tide but we managed to get to the back where the whale tail would later be uncovered at low tide. We managed to kill a few hours until the ocean was shallow enough to walk out to the island. The island was just sand and rocks but it was a cool experience. I highly recommend water shoes for the whale tail walk as the rocks at the island are very painful on bare feet. This is not a spectacular national park with versatility or lots to do but it is a lovely untouched beach that is worth a visit. Parking was $6 and park entry was $7/pp.

Family of three visiting on a Tuesday. It wasn’t too crowded. The beach is nice. I get that they only charge $6 per person but the restrooms were disgusting and there is not a single trash an in the whole park. Come on!!!

Beautiful beach and park with clean waters. We attempted walking the whales tail at low tide, but it was too difficult with the waves crashing over the sand bar. The closer one got to the end of tail, the rockier the ground was. The shells are very prevalent at low tide. Very clean beach and warm waters.

Parque Nacional Marino Ballena is stunning! The beach and the “whale tail” at low tide are unforgettable, and the boat tour to see the whales is an absolute must — a magical experience. Highly recommend!

The Whale Watching Uvita excursion was exceptional. We saw whales and dolphins and learned a lot about nature. We were also able to swim on a fantastic beach and were well catered for. A great experience and a top team that took excellent care of us. Very safe and well organized, highly recommended.

My wife and I were blessed to be able to see a mom humpback whale and her baby! Apparently it was on of the last ones in the area for the season so we were glad to see them! It’s pretty surreal seeing such a large animal up close in the wild and something I’ve always wanted to see! Our tour guide was super funny and friendly and made the experience more enjoyable, providing us with pineapple and apples on a beach that we docked on for about 30 minutes to allow us to explore. Met a little lizard friend on the beach who enjoyed our pineapple! Fun time all around!

We had an excellent morning whale watching during rainy season, despite the weather we saw a lot and conditions on the water were absolutely fine! Our guide Andres was very informative about both humpback whales and their ecology, and the surrounding area and geography (including the many birds we saw!). Coffee was provided before the tour and refreshing fruit provided on the beach afterwards; as the tickets for the National park were paid for already we stayed for a swim at the beach after the tour, would recommend!

Awesome experience! Very knowledgeable staff, we spotted two whale mamas with babies, dolphins, a lot of birds and iguanas on the shore.

This was truly an unforgettable experience, Carlos and his team really nailed it, we saw dolphins, sea turtles and many whales.

Not only were we able to see several breathtaking humpback whales up close, but we enjoyed incredible snorkeling and a delicious picnic at Uvita's Marino Ballena National Park. We loved our experience today! The crew was gracious and thorough as they shared all about the whales and surrounding area. We were fortunate and saw many whales and their babies today. We enjoyed our time swimming in the ocean and eating fresh pineapple provided by the company. I would highly recommend this company and activity!

Costa Rica is expensive compared to every other Latin American country I’ve visited.. but this instance of getting my reasonably priced meal was super pleasant. It was delicious, welll balanced.. and I would totally come back and order it again

The food there is very delicious and they have good cocktails, too! We've been there numerous times and every time it was a very pleasant experience. The staff is friendly and we even got a free piece of cake after our beach wedding!

Lovely outdoor place off the beaten path. Good cocktail and delicious ceviche with some corn cake/chip I'd never seen before. Have long tables for sharing or big groups and a couple smaller sittings.

Fast & friendly service. Easy parking. Covered outdoor seating. Dog friendly. We ate breakfast and my wife ordered Gallo Pinto while I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Great tastes and large portions for both meals. The waitress helped us buckle our child into a booster seat. When our child was done eating, the waitress carried her around the restaurant entertaining her so we could finish eating.

Tasty food with vegan/vegetarian options. Breakfast foods as well. Place was recommended by three separate people - retreat director, surfing instructor and community tour guy, and this place met expectations. My papaya smoothie was good but prob a stronger flavor fruit would have been better. Nonetheless it was refreshing. The ice coffee was 👍👍. Their recommended dish was coconut and mango ceviche but be warned you need to like sweet ceviche instead of the citrus. The chicken burritos were filling and delicious!

This place had such wonderful food we went back 3 times!. Lupe and the rest of the staff are so accommodating, kind and warn. For us the vibe in this place captures the very essence of this beautiful town and its community. Breakfast was so good and the Vegan bread was unlike any Vegan bread Ive ever had. It was truly delicious. Also Absolutely delicious shrimp bowl with fresh veggies and wonderful basil sauce! We also enjoyed the burritos and nachos. We were lucky to see the quarter final between the USA and Costa Rica here and the passion for the game was electric. We may have cheered opposing teams but we still felt the warmth of the locals as we watched. Highly recommend.

Super delicious dinner as well as breakfast! We got the guacamole, a strawberry daiquiri, a papaya daiquiri, a chicken rice bowl, and veggie rice for dinner. We'd rented an Airbnb just up the mountain with beautiful views of the beach, so we had to walk out to see it for ourselves. At midday in February it was incredibly hot and we soon realized we should've brought more sunscreen to reapply as ours sweated off! Beautiful dark sand beach that gets rockier as you get out to the end. A few days later we got to return and snorkel a bit, which was fun. Worth the walk!

The reason to go is to walk the whale tail and for that reason it’s worth it. It definitely has its own beauty, and watching the tide come in and meet in the middle of the same bar making up the tail part of the beach is pretty cool. Otherwise it’s not the prettiest beach around and the swimming really isn’t great.

Beautiful beach! yes, you need to pay entrance, but it is worth it! you find a beautiful clean and also safe beach. no restaurants, no people selling stuff, very natural. one of the most stunning beaches in costa rica! the rangers are super nice and take good care. I see the entrance as a contribution to preserve this paradise! especially if you see all the ongoing constructions on the southern pacific coast.

This is a gorgeous beach. Since it’s a nature preserve, it’s about $6 per person for the whole day (you get a stamped ticket that you can keep to come and go). There are stingrays (we saw/felt a couple!) so make sure to be aware. There are monkeys in the trees of the entrance, lots of fish, and a ton of beautiful birds, sea snails, and other wildlife making noise. Lots of surfing around here, and the waves are great for learning. The sun gets HOT midday, so wear sunscreen or a rashguard!

Breakfast here was amazing!! Very delicious!!! The bagels and breads are nice and fresh. We had bagel breakfast sandwiches and breakfast platters! The French Toast is absolutely to die for!!! The best I have ever had in my entire 40 years of life! Lots of sitting space and plenty of good breezes. Service is friendly. Absolutely no complaints…we visited several times during our trip and this will be our Go To breakfast spot from now on!

The bagels are just OK. Maybe I'm spoiled because I've had bagels in new york and Montreal (which are baked in actual wood ovens). We ordered several varieties and the everything was the best of the bunch. And it was decent. The jalapeno had no spice at all and barely tasted like jalapenos at all. The salted bagel paws also bland....with salt. 1As an added disappointment, they shorted our order by one bagel and we had to go back and explain several times how they shorted us. By then they had sold the last of the cinnamon/raisin (the missing item). If you're really in need of a bagel, this will do the job but just calibrate your expectations.

Bagel Time has quickly become one of our favorite spots in Uvita, it’s already close to our hearts. My partner and I have been several times, and every visit has been full of warmth, kindness, and seriously delicious food. You can taste the love in everything they make. We’ve tried the jalapeño, everything, and salt bagels, as well as the lox bagel. Each one has been fresh and flavorful. Some of the best bagels we have had in our life. The jalapeño cream cheese is a standout, with real fresh jalapeños that hit just right. What really sets this place apart, though, is the people. The customer service is incredible. Everyone behind the counter looks like they actually enjoy being there, genuine smiles, relaxed energy, and zero rush. Greivin has helped us every time we’ve gone, and he’s consistently kind, welcoming, and patient. We’ve been practicing our Spanish and always ask if we can try to order in Spanish first, he gives us space, helps us out when we need it, and never makes us feel judged or hurried. That kind of care and patience is rare, especially coming from the U.S., where I’ve never had an experience like that in a bakery or café. If you’re in Uvita, don’t miss this place.

Such a great place!! We loved it. Amazing bagels. We had breakfast sandwiches on bagels, cinnamon rolls, a chocolate hazelnut pastry, almond milk cappuccino, coffee, watermelon, and pineapple juice. All were great! Nice environment and super friendly staff. 100% will go back if we are in the area again. We grabbed some bagels, pretzels, and a baguette for the road it's that good!

I run a wood fired pizza business in the US and was visiting Uvita on vacation. Pizza Time knows the art of pizza and the crew here makes some delicious pies. The owner was a pleasure to talk to and you can tell he takes pride in the pizza they make. With hand stretched dough, fresh ingredients, and wood fired taste, these pizzas are some of the best. We got a large 1/2 margherita 1/2 supreme, and had to get a cheese pizza to-go because our dinner was so good. Great atmosphere and great pizza. Highly recommend!

We went with a large group to pizza time while my family was visiting. If you want to save time during peak tourist season then use the website to place the order and pay at the register when you arrive. Everything we ordered was cooked well with excellent flavor. The Cesar Salad was the perfect size for four adults. Pizza sauce and toppings were fresh and tasty. My only complaint was getting stuck in the restroom for 15 minutes when the doorknob broke as I pulled the door closed. Some silicone-based lubricant and a screwdriver would prevent this from happening. I think that inconvenience should have earned a free beer for our table. Pura Vida I suppose.

Nachos were great, highly recommend! Also the jumbo margarita amazing! We went 2 days in a row to go back for those 2 items. The hamburger is bigger than you think. Calamari I wouldn’t recommend unless you want to suck on a rubber band. The Pima colada was delicious and beautiful!

We ordered a soup, chifrijo as appetizers and a 2 lb whole fresh snapper as main dish. Well we got the appetizers and 4 min later an overly cooked fish arrived. We asked for the fish to be kept at the kitchen until we were ready to have it. The fish was taking to the kitchen until we asked for it. No apologies, or excuses. On the other hand the waiter that took our order was happyly talking to friends w the company of the cook and rest of staff. The fish was served again the same way as before and by this time really room temp. If you like cats and dogs around you while eating or cats by your chair waiting for you discard this is the place for you. For us it was a one in a lifetime experience.

Place was nice and friendly. I wanted to try authentic 🇨🇷 food. So they made a dish with rice and beans without the eggs (I'm vegan), I don't recall the name. But it was very yummy and the coconut pina colada with no alcohol was heavenly.

Good restaurant/soda near the National park main entrance. We had a margarita and a mojito, both good. Food was casados for the adults, French fries, chicken fingers and milkshakes for the children. Children enjoyed their meals. The casados were ok, but not the best I have had. I prefer the casados at Las Esferas, across road ad a couple of doors further from beach. Casados had frozen veggies. Rice and beans were fine but just that. Grilled chicken was also just ok. Price was high - casados were CRC 8000.

We had a party of 11 for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. They were very kind and attentive. The adult beverages we had were huge and delicious. The food took a while to come but was worth the wait. We weren't in a hurry and used the wait time to visit. The fish spaghetti and Costa Rican style tacos were awesome. Easy to park close to the restaurant and short walk from the beach.

It was exactly what I was craving. We had several pescado entero around CR but I needed a dorado filet a la plancha before we had to go home. Got it w the deluxe casado and it was so perfect. My favorite ocean fish, more like a steak type fish but not as fishy as many others. One kid had chicken fingers meal off the kids menu, which sounds boring, but was not. It was served in a cute little bucket and both chx and fries were really good. Delicious horchatas and our other foods were so good too. Shopped in the gift shop while our food was being prepared. Everyone was so nice, a really great experience. Thank you 🙏🏼

Everyone is kind, the food is so delicious that we went back a few times for breakfast and lunch. The food was filling. The coffee and smoothies were great. I was a big fan of the cafe. It was a bit more expensive than the local sodas but it was still good.

Highly recommended! We went their twice for breakfast and in between for refreshing fruit juices. The menue is awesome (huge breakfast burrito, granola with yogurt, nice fruit plates, also really nice traditional gallo pinto, all you could ask for). Coffee and fruit juices are also delicious plus the service was great. On top of that the prices were fair. Cafe Que Tuanis is our favourite place in uvita and probably one of the best we found on our roadtrip through Costa Rica.

Our family of 6 loved it so much there that we had two meals, plus ice cream. The beef burrito was outstanding ... all the food was perfect for the family at a price that won't break the budget. I fully recommend Que Tuanis Cafe!

Not a quiet beach. To reach the parking you have to cross a river. Lots of sellers along the beach. There is some shade but the farthest part is full of litter and very smelly. Little caves are beautiful, there are crabs and shells. You can also use the restroom and a shower.

Beautiful place to experience. Check the world tide chart to plan for the caves safely. Watershoes with a grip recommended, especially for the river. There are market type structures there, but we went early on a weekday morning and there were only a few people and lots of crabs on the beach.

Come during low tide. Free entrance, big parking. Quiet during the week and very busy on weekends with locals and tourists. Showers and bathrooms available. Small food vendors on site

Very private and beautiful. There are caves you can explore along the rocks. You must cross a river to access this beach. It is shallow, but I would recommend verifying the water level before attempting.

The beach itself is beautiful and the caves fun. No big swell or currents so nice to swim (I've spent a full day here) and there's a stream that the kids loved. The main issue is that it's full of litter: plastic everywhere (bottles, one use plates, straws, etc), food remains, fire remains, dippers and I even found feces (I don't know if human or dog...). A real shame. I would recommend a visit but definitely not to spend the full day here, as the litter all around and the lack of shade close to the water make it uncomfortable. Just added the trash photos, there are plenty of comments showing how beautiful the beach is

This is a beautiful beach, but you won’t exactly find solitude here. It can be a little crowded by Costa Rican standards, but it’s still worth a visit.

For only 2000 colones you get access to an awesome beach and caves! It was my favorite beach on this trip. I'd highly recommend coming here if you're in the area. FYI - You will have to drive your vehicle through a small stream that even a normal small sedan can cross unless there has been a lot of recent rain.

Very cute spot when you have the craving for Argentine food! The empanadas were good but the Milanesa sandwich was even better! Very delicious!! Also, the alfajores de maicena were absolutely great! They tasted very authentic, just like from Argentina and were very fresh! Will definitely be a place to return multiple times!

Went there for quick bite and I loved it. Only tried their empanadas, alfajor and black coffee and everything was great. Everything is homemade. Their spot is cozy and the service friendly. I’ll be back for the pizza and milanesa sandwich.

My favorite food spot in Uvita! Basically all vegetarian option of empanadas were my favorite and it was always hard to choose which one I want today - cheese and onions, caprese or with vegetables. I like that they are baked in the oven and not fried in a lot of oil like in other places. The staff is super nice and friendly, always on a positive vibe! I’d also recommend to try a passion fruit juice that is so refreshing and tasty. Thank you, guys, for all delicious empanadas and your smiles! Pura vida 🤙🏻

We absolutely loved El Hornito! The empanadas are to die for — so good that we went back a second time during our stay in Uvita. The place itself is really cute and welcoming, and the staff are super friendly. I especially recommend the shrimp and cheese empanadas — they were incredible! A must-visit spot if you’re in the area.

It was an amazing experience. Best empanadas we have had. Atmosphere is so calming and everything is so serene. Owner/chef is very sweet. He has made it very eco friendly. No unnecessary cutlery or plastic used. There is great music playing and the place is surrounded by natural beauty. It is very economical too.

The restaurant is easily accessible by car. The staff is very friendly. Moreover the food was very tasty and was served quickly. However, the portions were not very large. As a tip, the Chinese tea is free.

The only Chinese restaurant in Uvita. Good egg rolls. Very Small portions of main dishes. The staff is unfriendly except for the male cook who actually smiled. It is ok if you have a craven for Chinese. Rice dishes here in Costa Rica are in abundance and usually huge! I was expecting more.

The waiter was really nice and service was good, but it was some of the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Ordered 3 dishes and seriously none of them were good. Would not recommend.

We had amazing service from very tentative and friendly staff. The starters were delicious and good portions. Vegetable print rolls were really great and freshly made. Mains were really delicious but slightly too sweet. Good size portions for the mains also. Worth going.

Sorry Tex friends and Mex friends, but the best Tex-Mex is in Costa Rica. The beef fajitas are perfectly grilled chunks of real steak. The Birria is a perfectly seasoned wonderfully greasy enterprise. even the Horchata will blow your mind. Plus, great craft beers .

The steak fajita was super weird, a huge chunk of meat cooked separately and then placed a top erratically cut onions and peppers and topped with thyme, of all things. Might have been a poor order, but I did not leave inspired.

We had a very delicious diner with our three kids here. Vegetarian and meat. Good portions, fresh and great quality. And the cheese cake maracuja…. I absolutely recommend this place! Waiters also very friendly and professional. We would come back if we would’ve more time!

This was, without a doubt, the best meal I had during my trip to Costa Rica. The dishes were beautifully presented, the quality of the ingredients was exceptional, and the flavors were bold and unforgettable. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The chef was not only skilled but also open and genuinely cared about each guest, ensuring everyone felt welcome and appreciated. An unforgettable dining experience that I highly recommend!

Can’t recommend this place enough. The property where this restaurant is located is quite magical and pleasing to the eye. To make matter even better, the staff were very friendly to us: explaining some details about the food and making suggestions. We got tasty natural drinks and for starting we couldn’t choose better with a ‘Choricitos en vino’ it was perfect. For the main entree we got the ‘Seafood Paella’ for 2 (bigger than pictured. That was the first plate of it.) It took a while to cook like 30mins, as noted in the menu, so take that into consideration but it definitely pays off. It’s just simply delicious and the presentation + how they serve it was easily was one of the highlights of our trip. For dessert, we got the ‘Piña flameada con helado’; it was very good too. Last but not least, we got as a treat from the chef a shot of Baileys and Flor de Caña Rum. The chef talked to us a couple of times and we really enjoyed that. Amazing experience and I highly recommend this place.

A fantastic restaurant that is just a few minutes walk from the beach. Chef Heri really cares about his customers' experience and makes sure to connect with every table at least once during their meal. The staff are attentive and professional. I enjoyed a bottle of red that I didn't finish and was able to take home with me. The mixed paella is SO delicious and one of the best I've ever had (Chef Heri is from Ibiza Spain) and the dessert was lovely as well. I highly recommend this restaurant

This place is absolutely incredible. My boyfriend and I never leave reviews, but we really wanted to after we visited sabor Español. We found them on Google maps and couldn’t have been more impressed. The chef/owner is from Ibiza, and he cooked a delicious seafood paella for us. We went in slow season and it felt like having our very own private chef. Sangria is also my drink of choice anywhere I visit, and this might’ve been my favourite sangria I’ve ever had (his own recipe as well). The desserts we had were also different from anything else we had in Costa Rica, which the chef created as his own specialities. I can’t recommend this place enough - charming, delicious and wonderful service. Thank you!

Ate here 2 days in a row, the food was amazing, but what makes this place special is the owner/chef you can tell he is passionate about food and it shows in his meals. Everything we ate was great, flavorful and nicely presented.

I came as part of my air B&B stay, what a spot. When you pull in, you may be greeted by a family of monkeys, which was pretty cool. I came mostly for the private beach access that was a part of my stay, but having the restaurant there was very convenient. Very laid back. Cash only!

Although it was advertised to have a pool which could be used after going to the nearby beach. The small pool (bar pool) was very dirty and the larger pool had no water in it. We received information to check the excellent Tuna steak for lunch. We decided we don't wanna eat anything here! The place looked dirty and is obviously passed glory! The moment 2 of us (out of 3)stood up to quickly check the beach, we were stopped and notified we can only go to the beach after having lunch.

Had a really good meal here tonight. I had the snapper steamed in banana leaves on the bbq and it was delicious . Really great spot to order and then walk out and see the sunset from the beach. I’d definitely recommend it for that reason and great Costa Rican food.

Cozy restaurant with amazing fried fish with potatoes and a good salad. It’s owner is very kind. I believe his wife is the cook and gets even better because they welcome their clients as their own family. Has a direct walking path to the beach. Also has a little pool. Will come back for sure.

Delicious! We had the whole fried snapper and the fried shrimp/ fish fingers. It was really good. You get access to a beautiful beach that is very private with a river that flows in. Recommended

Stopped by with friends for lunch on Sunday and we all had the ribs which were amazing. I'm showing a double order in the photo, but you should only attempt this if you are really really hungry 😁 Locals affectionately refer to this place as Cliff's. You need to eat here, but being cash. No credit cards are accepted here...
