Virgin Islands National Park, located on St. John Island and part of St. Thomas Island, as well as Hassel Island, is a protected area that spans nearly two-thirds of St. John and its surrounding coastal waters.
One of the best parks I have been to. So much fun, so much to see and do! The big lake is everything here, so bring your water shoes

Stunning park. Amazing snorkeling 🤿 We saw octopi, sharks, schools of beautifully colored fish, spotted eagle rays, Cuddlefish, pufferfish, eels, swam with turtles, hiked, and ate some great food. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous.
Devyn F — Google review
The most beautiful islands in the World. Peaceful, friendly towns, exquisite beaches, warm, tropical Caribbean breezes, and endless blue seas to make you change your mind about going back home.

A combination of two things I love….beaches and National Parks. Great day of snorkeling, hiking to Rams Head, and exploring the park. A little disappointed some of the restaurants we were looking forward to were closed but it is hurricane season so we understood why.
Courtney W — Google review
Beautiful bus ride with a tour guide around the park! It was an excursion through the Carnival Cruise Line.

Loved it here! We drove all around and explored as much as we could in one day and it was memorable. The views are breathtaking, the beaches are gorgeous, and the ruins are great for pictures. The roads are very windy but they’re paved so you feel a bit safer driving through it all.
Lacey M — Google review
Greatly enjoyed this visit to VI NP. After speaking to one of the two interpretive Rangers for the park, they are very understaffed. The new Park HQ and visitor center is very nice and worth a visit. Hopefully the bathrooms will get some attention next. Additionally, updated signage will help visitors navigate the massive park. Most beaches and facilities are free, with Trunk Bay as an exception. You can only (realistically) walk to Solomon and Honeymoon beaches via the trails from the visitor center. The others all require a taxi ($9 pp/ one way) or a rental car. Trunk Bay is $5 pp, with very limited parking.

Hiking Trails
Reef Bay Trail is a 4.4-mile moderate trail on St. John Island, popular among hikers and bird-watchers. The trail features two forests and a sugar mill, as well as mysterious petroglyphs carved around 900-1500 AD by the pre-Columbian Taino and their ancestors.
This was a great trail! Parking is just on the side of the road where ever you can find it. The trail down was easy and enjoyable with lots to see on the way. Take the side trail to the petroglyphs, it’s flat, easy walking and worth seeing. The sugar mill ruins are worth seeing too! The ruins are very intact and the placards were informational and interesting. My husband and I took a picnic lunch to eat on the beach to rest before hiking back up. I took a dip in the ocean to cool off. Reef Bay Beach isn’t the best beach to swim - the surf was a rough the day we went and you NEED water shoes to swim. Good beach combing here, though. The hike up: oooo boy. Like many other reviews said, the last 1/3 of the hike back up is a killer. We got a later start to the day then we wanted so we were hiking back up at 1pm, in the heat of the day. My husband and I are active (hike on weekends, weightlift 3-4 days a week) and most of the hike back up was easy. The last bit is at a decently steep incline with several sets of stone stairs and I struggled, though I think it was the heat and humidity that was affecting me the most. The actual trail really wasn’t that bad( I do a trail at home regularly that is steeper and I manage) but hiking it in the heat of the day is not recommended!! Don’t be like me! My husband made out just fine. Make sure you have enough water for the hike back up, you will need it!! That said, my husband and I made the 2.2mile hike back up in about 1hr 15minutes, even with my multiple water/breathing breaks.
Lauren H — Google review
Starting near mile marker 5 on Rt. 10, an approximately 4.4 mile round trip trail down a leaf/stone strewn dirt path into the lush growth and trees, leading to Reef Bay. We took the offshoot trail (about another 1/2 mile round trip) to see the waterfall and petroglyphs, then swam in the bay (water shoes recommended) before making our way back up the trail. The return trip is pretty steep once you’re about 3/4 of a mile from the end. Recommend lots of water!
Lisa B — Google review
We hiked a few trails on Saint John and this was one of our favorites. The parking is pretty tight as you just pull over into any dirt spot you can find and make sure you're not sticking out into the road. The trail from the road down to the old sugar mill and back, had us at about 6 miles while checking out some of the small outlets. It is all downhill from the road so you'll have a bit of a hike back up but it was a beautiful trail. We spotted lots of hermit crabs and even a few Mongooses. The sugar mill ruins are very cool to see and the beach seems to only be able to be accessed via hiking or boating. Make sure to pack some water it is a good amount in the shade but gets hot quickly.
Dave P — Google review
This is an awesome hike with plenty to see. I will say that it's equally challenging and beautiful. If you're hesitant about the difficulty, I'd pick another trail, but if you're up for a challenge, you can't beat the views. The first half of the hike is all down hill and the return trip is all up hill. The trail is shaded, which a big plus. Bring plenty of water!
Tyler W — Google review
Jan 2024 - My wife and I (mid 60s) walked the trail from Centerline to the Petroglyphs and back. It's such a beautiful hike I can see why so many people enjoy it. We are fairly active and had no difficulty with the steeper parts - just a little winded at times. It was a perfect day - Low 80s with a nice breeze. I could see it being more challenging if it were really hot. The trail is in very nice condition. There are a few rocky spots and its likely to be slippery when wet but I would not hesitate to do it again. There are some lovely views, as well as some interesting ruins from the former sugar plantations. It is well shaded, which makes its a pleasant trail on a sunny day. As advised, be sure to bring some water and perhaps a few snacks. Next time we would likely go the rest of the way to the coast (we had plans to swim at Maho Bay so we decided to go as far as the Petroglyphs).
David R — Google review
Pretty aggressive trail on the way back, switchbacks with steep inclines make sure you bring lots of water! The trail is covered mostly during the day and leads down to a secluded beach as well as the petroglyph trail and an abandoned sugar factory
Corey B — Google review
This is a great trail that is mostly covered from the sun. The trail is definitely moderate coming back up from the beach. Going out is fine and the beach provides a nice relief point. Definitely remember to bring enough water and take your time going back up as there is a lot of walking uphill. Parking was on the side of the road near mile marker 5, just remember to go early as the spots on the roadside can fill up quick. There’s a couple offshoots on the trail bringing you to the petroglyphs which is interesting to check out!
Suril D — Google review
Fairly eaay hike down, much tougher coming back up but definitely worth doing! Cool rain forest hike with petroglyphs and various interesting trees, ruins and a beach along the way.

Maho Bay Beach, located on the northern side of St. John within Virgin Islands National Park, is a popular destination for snorkeling enthusiasts. The beach offers crystal clear waters and a white sand shoreline, with two stunning reefs bordering the bay. Visitors can easily spot sea turtles near the seagrass areas and swim alongside them in the shallow waters.
Incredible! Much less crowded than Trunk Bay! Wonderful place to snorkel. We saw turtles, barracuda, sting ray, and tons of interesting fish! We loved or new friend, James! He makes the best tasting drinks. Make sure to find him at the bar a little further down from the entrance! Get The Lime in the Coconut! Lots of shade. You can rent everything you need for a fun beach day. There are 2 different vendors who sell chairs so check prices. Avg price is between $15 and $20 per chair. Shop it out first to get the best price! Didn’t see the donkeys this visit! Maybe later in the week!

Beach was a bit busy and parking was tough but we found a spot. And then found a good spot off to the far right in the shade. Beach was amazing and the family was able to snorkeling and got to see turtles, and fish along with crabs tying to exchange shells.
Crystal B — Google review
Beautiful and not terribly crowded beach area. The limited parking (pretty much just the side of the road) limits the crowding, and the beach is just feet away from the road. Snorkeling here was not great for us. There's no coral - just turtle grass here. So we saw about 2 fish while out here and nothing else. One guy claimed to have seen a sea turtle - which seem to be common here.
Greg E — Google review
Maho. Just go. Get there early. Smaller than Trunk and Cinnamon, but parking is close and the beach is beautiful. More sheltered than Cinnamon which means less wind and less waves. Saw a four foot string ray and some smaller rays. Plenty of turtles! There have cabanas with picnic tables for free if you get there early. They have a beach bar and souvenir shop too. I recommend a Lime In The Coconut.

I've been to many islands and many beaches, and to me.This is the most beautiful beach in the world. It is stunning the water the surroundings. Perfect day for snorkeling and exploring. you can swim around and see all types of fishies and turtles. Across the street, they have food, trucks and dream trucks, perfect for a day at the beach. I recommend this beach to everyone. It's a once in a lifetime, please to visit

Visitors can explore the Reef Bay Trail with mysterious petroglyphs or hike to Rams Head for panoramic ocean views. Snorkeling enthusiasts can bring their gear to discover St.
Absolutely beautiful! The hike down to Cinnamon Bay wasn't bad at all, my mom did it in flip flops. Cinnamon Bay, located in the Virgin Islands National Park, is a stunning beach that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and relaxation. The hike down to the beach is a rewarding experience in itself, with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Once you reach the beach, you'll be greeted by soft, white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The water is incredibly warm and inviting, making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply wading in the shallows. The beach is also a great spot to relax and soak up the sun. With its stunning scenery, pristine waters, and peaceful atmosphere, Cinnamon Bay is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to St. John.

Nice beach to hang out and catch some sun and ocean waves. Not great for snorkeling and it gets packed with local tourists and those coming over from St. Thomas for the day. Parking can be a challenge as well. Go early to grab a spot.

Everyone talks about Trunk Bay being the most beautiful in the world, but do not skip this one! We packed up early and walked to the very far end near the black rocks. Spent the whole day relaxing feeling like we were the only ones on the beach. Everyone clears out at 4 to catch their cruise’s or their dinner plans so if you want that picturesque sunset walk on the beach, you’ll get it! We snorkeled a lot on St.John so the days we came here we drank the day away :). A short walk back to the entrance and amazing painkillers, strong ones too! Don’t let people on Facebook groups scare you, bring your Neso and just be considerate of others
Christy S — Google review
In our first appriach we were not going to visit this beach thinking in Trunk beach as our first option, however after visiting Cinamon Beach I will say that it's a paradaise. Super good installations food, clear waters and a bay that will make you dream. This is a must, dont forget it!
Paco N — Google review
Without a doubt my favorite beach! Of course I haven’t been to all, but this one was just breathtaking!! No entry fee, we took a taxi but there was parking. Bathrooms are available & little food/drink shack
Ann B — Google review
This beach is hard to describe in words. It IS GORGEOUS. Soft sand, barely a shell or rock in the ocean and crystal clear waters. Great for snorkeling or just floating on your back! We found fresh coconuts and beautiful coral when walking down the beach. I need to go back!!!!
Jade Z — Google review
What an absolutely gorgeous beach. I would have loved to have spent the day here, but we had a laundry list of things to see. We were in search of the “window” that I had seen everywhere when researching the area and then learned that it’s right as you walk from the parking lot, down the sidewalk, to the beach. I was thinking we had to do some major hiking to get to it, but not the case. The parking is ample and the beach is pretty big. You may even catch a glimpse of a cute little deer passing through.
Ali B — Google review
By far my favorite beach on St. John. Not at all crowded like Trunk Bay, although the campground there is still closed from Irmaria so it may be more crowded when that opens. Sugar sand beach, clear water, and good snorkeling. Take the time to go across the street and take the trail through the ruins on a self-guided tour.

Beach
Trunk Bay is a must-visit snorkeling spot located on St. John's East End, at the edge of the Virgin Islands National Park. Accessible via a narrow path from the roadside parking lot, this beach offers stunning underwater structures and corals that make it a bucket-list destination for snorkelers.
Stunningly beautiful. Great snorkeling. Not crowded at all really since there are so many choices of beaches. We did get there early-ish. 9 am or so.
Lisa H — Google review
An incredible beach and well worth the effort if you are taking a cruise to St Thomas. I made a video about going to St John / Trunk Bay. It's one of the most beautiful beaches you can visit. Such an amazing place!
Alex Y — Google review
Paradise om Earth ? You found it !Trunk Bay is nothing short of majestic beauty. The moment you arrive, you are greeted with crystal-clear turquoise waters that look like they’ve been painted by hand, and the softest, finest white sand that feels like silk under your feet. This is truly one of the most breathtaking beaches in the Caribbean — perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply soaking in paradise. We spent hours enjoying the pristine water and the postcard-worthy scenery. The panoramic views, whether from the shore or looking out at the lush green island just offshore, are unforgettable. It’s the kind of place that makes you wish time could stop. A couple of practical notes for future visitors: Transportation: If you’re coming by cruise ship into Cruz Bay, taxis are the main way to reach Trunk Bay. While they’re efficient, the drivers can sometimes be a bit abrupt or even rude. One important thing to remember: they will not wait for you if you are not back at the vehicle at the exact time they say. Plan your beach time carefully to avoid being stranded. Food & drinks: There is only one food shack on the beach. While convenient, the prices are quite high compared to what you’d expect. Definitely bring extra cash (not all places take cards) and, if possible, pack a few snacks and water beforehand. Even with these small inconveniences, Trunk Bay is absolutely worth the trip. It is a slice of paradise that combines natural beauty, tranquility, and the magic of the Caribbean. If you’re visiting St. John, don’t miss it — this is one of those places that stays with you forever.
Marian R — Google review
This has to be one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. There is an extra fee for this beach. It's $5 a person. Totally worth it. There's also food and drinks available. There's a snorkel tour underwater that you can do by yourself.
Caitlin C — Google review
Beautiful, blue water, clean sand, and hardly any crowds. It's about 5 bucks a person to enter here - but it's worth the price. The parking lot is small, which cuts down on the crowds here. There is an underwater snorkeling trail marked out by a few buoys you can follow out to Trunk Cay. It's not the best in the world, but it's very accessible an in a calm, easy bay. There are nice bathroom and shower facilities here as well.
Greg E — Google review
Beautiful beach, great snorkeling. Hard to describe in words! Food and drinks were awesome and this is part of the park services ! Well done!
Courtney S — Google review
The most beautiful place I’ve ever visited so far! We took a cruise from the US and ported in St. Thomas. We wanted to check off a bucket list place by visiting St. John. A U.S. National Park. The timing was perfect on a beautiful day, the first week in September. I would definitely do a destination trip to this island as I would love to explore it more. Must see if you love God’s nature on land and sea.

Nestled on the scenic west shore of Coral Harbor, Surf Club Cantina is a delightful spot that promises a memorable dining experience. Surrounded by lush landscapes and offering stunning views of Coral Bay, this casual eatery features an inviting outdoor bar where families can gather to enjoy a variety of mouthwatering dishes. From tantalizing tacos and crispy tofu options for vegans to delectable conch fritters, there's something for everyone. The homemade tortilla chips paired with fresh guacamole are simply irresistible!
We decided to stop by Surf Club Cantina in Coral Bay spot for a late lunch on the way back from hanging out at Salt Pond Bay Beach. So glad we did! I had been craving a good, fresh salad and theirs topped with diced fried chicken was delicious. My husband really liked the fish & chips. Our server was attentive and a delightful senior gal.

Parking in the back. We sat at the bar, the place was quite packed but service was fast. Music was a little loud. The bartender was amazing! And the food was superb, we had mozzarella sticks, tofu quesadilla - so yummy! Only one bathroom inside the building.

Excellent food, excellent service! Cute outdoor eating area, with two bars. We got ahi sashimi tacos, fajita chicken quesadillas, fish/shrimp platter, and a Great Tahuna burger. It was all excellent. Under the awning it was cool and nice to eat outside. Expect to pay about $25 per person. A small shopping center with gifts and jewelry is at the same location.

There were four people in our party for lunch almost every day and dinner during our 8 days in Coral Bay. The Big Tahuna sandwhich is absolutely delicious. The tuna seasoned and cooked to perfection. The tuna Tacos were a masterpiece fresh and delicious. Our server Charlie was excellent and the Bartender served up great tequila shots and pain killers etc... Nice atmosphere with covered seating and fans. We would be there right now if we could. Highly recommend.

I was very impressed with Surf Club Cantina. The food and drinks were good and the service was great. I sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and on top of everything. The food came out quickly and it tasted great. One of the owners happened to be there and it was obvious that she cares a lot about the place and was actively soliciting feedback from patrons regarding a special that they were trying out. She was pleasant and personable. This spot has hosted a number of restaurants over the years with ups and downs, but I would definitely say that the current incarnation is an up!

The food and drinks were delicious! The lime in the coconut, nachos, and tuna sandwich were all great! It rained while we were there and the staff helped move everyone’s tables under cover and brought us towels. Plus there’s an adorable little dog that hangs out on the patio!

Johnny Lime is a Caribbean barbecue restaurant located in Coral Bay, known for its authentic Caribbean BBQ and warm hospitality. The menu features smoked meats like pulled pork and jerk chicken, as well as fresh Mahi Mahi. The lively ambiance makes it a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring. With themed nights throughout the week and outdoor picnic tables right on the bay, it's a popular choice for both lunch and dinner.
Lunch was amazing! I live in the South and this BBQ was better than most Southern BBQ restaurants I’ve eaten at. The ribs were flavorful and moist and truly no sauce needed. The rib rub they use is perfect! I urge you to get the sweet potatoes- they are unbelievably good! Mac and Cheese is very, very good! 1 meal with 2 sides and a Mac and cheese is plenty of food for 2 people to share.

A truly outstanding dinner. It had something for everyone. My husband had the jerk chicken which he said was amazing. I selected the veggie platter which had a sample of almost all of their sides. It was truly incredible. So much creativity and flavor. I also had the "Danger" cocktail which had a wonderful spicy flavor with fresh squeezed watermelon juice. It was refreshing and not too sweet. We finished our meal with the cardamom Cinnabon which was honestly one of the best desserts. So many beautiful flavors combined together. We couldn't have loved our meal more. Do yourself a favor and try it out! This is a place that knows the art of cooking.

Relaxing spot with pretty views. Great cocktails and the food was incredible! We had the pulled pork and jerk chicken. Both were so moist and smoked to perfection. The tamarind sauce was a nice balance of tangy and sweet. My husband claims the potato salad to possibly be the best he has ever had and the smoked butternut squash and rice and beans were also so flavorful. Glad we found it our first night on the island so we can come back before we leave.

Food was so delicious, we had to go twice! We had the brisket, pulled pork sandwich, mahi mahi sandwich, yuca fries, Mac and cheese, and potato salad between our 2 meals. We also had the cinnamon roll dessert with lime icing which was perfection. Everything we tasted was delicious here! Props to the kitchen! The flavors were fresh, drinks were tasty, all was spot on and the sauce over the yuca fries was so good! The atmosphere was fun and music was great. The bar manager (sorry I’m terrible with names) was a cool dude, super friendly and chatted with my kids. Will absolutely return next time we visit St. John, as it has been our favorite food of the whole trip! Do not miss this place!

Go! Fabulous food, great place to sit and enjoy. We had yucca fries, pulled pork, ribs and fresh salad. The ribs were great, tender and flavorful with a touch of fruit. No sauce needed, so you know they're good. Pulled pork a slightly different, delicious flavor. I like the effort at different tastes. The greens were welcome for some light vegetable flavor

Stopped here for lunch and loved it. Friendly staff (unlike some places we stopped on the island), great vibes, and great food. Lots of outdoor seating with fans and shade. Clean bathroom also available. Lots of easy parking in big parking lot.

Friendly staff, amazing bbq chicken. Their house sauces were excellent as well! Glad we swung in, some of the better food we've had on the island.

High quality, wholesome, BBQ with a few vegetarian options. The latter options were the Mac and Cheese, Smoked Butternut Squash, Salad, and Rice and Beans - each well portioned and priced. The smoked meats were just out of this world. The brisket moist and tender, the chicken well flavored. It's a street-side joint with outdoor seating - with sufficient cover to find a shaded spot. Service was friendly and prompt. Overall, A+!

Nestled in the charming Coral Bay area of St. John, Love City Market is a delightful stop for both locals and travelers alike. This quaint market offers a well-curated selection of grocery essentials, making it an ideal pitstop whether you're heading to the beach or simply looking to stock up on snacks and drinks. The vibrant history of Love City adds to its charm; once a haven for 1960s flower children, this area has retained its laid-back vibe while welcoming visitors with open arms.
Love City Market has a surprisingly good selection of cheese, milk alternatives, baking goods, and essentials. The people working there were friendly.

We’ve been to the other stores in the area and they honestly had the best selection of products and the freshest produce, the workers there were amazing as well

Prices are high for your non-local foods. But Alessia is very nice.

The coffee strength is on the lighter side but good. There's an espresso machine here. The breakfast sandwiches are excellent and burritos are huge. The staff is fun and friendly.

Possibly the most organized market on St John......like "Sleeping with the Enemy" level organized .... impressive
Jay S — Google review
Very good wine, beer and spirits selection along with lots of fresh produce. The shelf grocery section is small but they made the most of the space and they do seem to have a bit of everything. Parking was easy each time we visited, although you do have to take it slow because of all the wild chickens wandering around!

Good selection of goods, and especially alcohol, in a convenient location within Coral Bay. Island prices, as expected

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Annaberg Sugar Plantation, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to St John. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Annaberg Sugar Plantation, built in 1718, is an 18th-century sugar plantation with well-preserved ruins including a windmill tower and factory. The site is part of the Virgin Islands National Park and offers visitors a glimpse into the island's colonial past and post-emancipation culture. The Cinnamon Bay Nature Loop provides easy access to the plantation ruins, with a wheelchair-friendly boardwalk looping through the area.
Excellent historical location. Very moving to see many parts of this plantation. The Friends of the Virgin Islands have demonstrations 3 days a week. It was our lucky day. We were able to try fresh bread, and got to tour the kitchen-which showed the wealth of the previously enslaved owner who bought the plantation that once owned him. It was so incredibly informative.
Kathryn B — Google review
The parking lot is down by the beach. An uphill hike to the plantation. If you are not good on stairs, you can walk the road to get there. Those views are jaw dropping! Great panorama of the British VI, plenty of history of the plantation. Beautiful quiet place.
JitkaKac — Google review
My Bride and I opted for self-guided activities on this trip. Driving is challenging. If you are used to driving to the right, you will be mentally challenged. On top of this, the roads are narrow, steep (almost make San Francisco look flat). Hairpin turns galore. Now combine all of the above. That is your driving experience in the Virgin Islands National Park at St. John's, U.S. Virgin Islands. The park itself is replete with trails of varying difficulty, There are markers enough for guidance. We would have spent more time at the plantation, but it started raining heavily. Walking through, visitors may learn much from the information boards. I did not like the "woke" flavor of their content.
Leon D — Google review
This is a beautifully preserved plantation with an incredibly sad history. It feels like sacred ground and should be treated as such. We are so glad we didn't miss this visit. So much hardship in such a beautiful place. Highly recommend visiting this historic site.

A must see! Not a very big place. You could spend 1 hour tops there. Free parking. The garden keeper was very nice! We were able to try sugar cane, bananas, and were given leaves to make tea or just to smell. Really cool experience. The views were amazing and the buildings out of a movie.
Stephanie C — Google review
Nice easy walk, no parking though at the top, taxi drop off only for your awareness.

Not a bad hike to get there! Totally worth seeing for great water views too.

Waterlemon Cay is a popular spot for snorkeling and swimming, surrounded by a reef that offers the chance to see coral formations, turtles, rays, and conch. The crystal-clear waters off the coast of this cay are perfect for encountering marine life such as seahorses, starfish, and sea turtles. Accessible via the Leinster Bay Trail, it's just a short walk from Annaberg Parking lot to reach this picturesque island.
If you can’t go snorkeling with a boat, I do believe this is the best spot accessible from land. 3 things to be aware of - Wear water shoes. There are a lot of sea urchins where you get in the water. - We didn’t have any cell service once we hit the hiking trail. Which was fine. At the head of the trail you will have service from British Virgin island side. If you have to make phone call, be aware of your international plan. - Though not frequent, taxis do pass by if you don’t have a car. Just plan things early and you will be fine.
Tina L — Google review
This is a very nice snorkeling spot - mainly because it's away from people. We were the only ones here at the time. Beware of a few things: There are a ton of jellyfish. They are mostly moon jellyfish, which have a sting that doesn't hurt too bad (so I'm told), but I'd rather stay on the safe side. Around the Cay gets shallow and it's filled with sharp coral. Stay away from the shallow areas to avoid touching it. The same shallows are full of sea urchins. Be very careful - these things hurt a lot. I just spent the last hour digging spines out of my partner's hand. Just stay away. The waves are larger around here. It's not a great spot for children. Otherwise, we saw a HUGE green sea turtle and a lot of fish around here.
Greg E — Google review
One of our favorite snorkeling spots on St John. Nice hike in. The coral took a little abuse but seems to be coming back nice. Saw some sea turtles and a large barracuda as well. Will definitely return.
James K — Google review
Great snorkeling, have to be willing walk. Only carry what you need and be comfortable to carry it. Swim counter clockwise around the cay to catch the current back. Sharks, rays, barracudas, and plenty of fish. Not a tourist spot yet so very low key. Walk all the way to the point for the easiest access to the cay. Enjoy!
Jack S — Google review
Great snorkeling. Saw see turtles, nurse sharks and thousands of fish. Takes a good hike to get there but it was worth it.
Darren D — Google review
First let’s be honest, it’s a hike, a hot hike. I had to carry all of our gear, took 30 minutes. On the way in prior to the cay there were sea turtles in the grass. I left my wife on the stones, no sand beach near the cay. The swim out to the cay was nice, saw a nurse shark under some coral. We swam counterclockwise around the cay as everyone says to. There were large coral and all the fish on the backside. Not saying it’s not worth it yet there’s better beaches on the island.
Robert M — Google review
The hike (its flat the whole way but about 20-25 minutes) is completely worth it for the incredible snorkeling! We saw an array of gorgeous fish including rainbow parrotfish, and also encountered a nurse shark. Just keep in mind the current when snorkeling here and be cautious. I recommend not doing this trip alone.
Whitney C — Google review
Probably best spot to snorkel on the island. In my opinion, Hawaii has much better spots, but def. worth the visit. Make sure you go for a dive at the beach prior the cat. There are sea turtles, sting rays there.

Historical place
The Annaberg School Ruins are a must-see attraction on the island, offering a rich perspective of 18th-century plantation life. Nearby, the Catherineberg and Reef Bay ruins also provide insight into the island's history. The short walk to these ruins is definitely worth it, as they offer an interesting glimpse into the past without being crowded. Don't forget to bring water and snacks for your visit!
Breath taking views- Highly recommend, park at the bottom, and walk up. Not crowded. Beautiful view of the ocean + how far the eye can see. As for the ruins, be careful of the bees; we had to steer clear of certain access spots. Other than that, good amount of history shared, and a fun area to explore.
Greta V — Google review
A very short walk from the road, the ruins are worth taking a look at while you're in the area. It's a single building and not nearly as expansive as the nearby Annaberg Ruins, but it's still an interesting piece of history and very unlikely to be crowded.

Francis Bay

Bay
Francis Bay is a serene and tranquil beach located between Maho and Leinster Bays on the north shore of St. John. It offers a peaceful escape from the crowds, with opportunities to swim alongside sea turtles at the calm and shallow Maho Bay. The rocky north coast provides excellent snorkeling, especially during summer when large schools of silvery fish gather close to shore. The area is known for its pristine natural beauty and tranquility, as it is mostly owned by the National Park.
Beautiful bay. Plenty of moorings. Rarely full. Easy dinghy ride to mahoe bay.

St John

Island
St. John is a popular Caribbean destination known for its stunning white sand beaches and the Virgin Islands National Park, which boasts a diverse range of bird species. The park was generously donated by Laurance Rockefeller in 1956, covering a significant portion of the island and offering beautiful beaches and campgrounds along Route 20. The park spans nearly two-thirds of St. John Island, surrounding coastal waters, part of St. Thomas Island, and most of Hassel Island.
Beautiful small Island with a few spectacular beaches. Great souvenir shops. Great place to sit and watch the day go by. They have the best beaches clean and clear water perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It’s just 30 minute ferry ride from St. Thomas. My favorite beach is Trunk Bay.
Stephanie C — Google review
BVI was a stop on a recent cruise. We did a day trip to St. John, then a tour of the island. Honestly, when you've seen one Virgin Island (whether US or British), you've seen them all. The terrain is basically identical. Unfortunately, a lot of the houses and businesses are still in disrepair after the hurricanes of a few years ago. I can certainly understand this as getting anything to these islands is a difficult, expensive task, not counting how expensive basic building materials are in the first place. The nicest thing about any of these islands is the water, which is why the majority of people go there. It is stunningly beautiful. The white sand beaches contrast with the multi-hued water, ranging from a gorgeous green, to aqua to light blue to dark blue. And, the water is crystal clear. No wonder these islands are a divers (and snorkelers) paradise. Don't waste your time on island tours, there's just not a lot to see.

Beautiful island. Breathe taking views and amazing beaches. Perfect spot for snorkeling. Island is really quiet and full with nature surprises. We saw so many different animals leaving free and together. Was wild life experience for me ! Great spot if you looking for this quiet beach getaway. Transportation is easy. Taxis are cheap and they go to every beach. Food and shopping is expensive. No airport so reaching till here is time taking but is worth the expense
Stacey M — Google review
Beautiful beaches. However, driving up the hill is very challenging, especially if it is raining.
Ronny T — Google review

Jemma H — Google review
Absolutely beautiful island. Gorgeous beaches, great hiking. Remember to bring reef safe spf as that is the only kind allowed. Drive on the left and download a map beforehand because of the mountains. Bring bug spray as well. Keep in mind parking is very limited at all beaches and hiking destinations.
Christina R — Google review
Almost island is the national park with beautiful white sand beaches, hiking trails, historical ruins of the past. Cruz Bay is the docking terminal for visitors with passenger ferry and separate car ferry. Best time to visit is in late fall, winter and spring as summer is pretty hot and hurricane time. Foot passengers can utilize taxi service but car is recommend in order to explore the park.
Qlv A — Google review
I really liked this island trip. Very relaxing and beautiful. Beaches are nice, ocean is mesmerizing. One thing I didn't consider is always having a bug repellent on. I'd even recommend bringing either bug spray or citronella candles for inside. And since you will get bitten at some point bring your favorite anti itch spray/cream. But a lovely stay none the less.

With its tropical outdoor courtyard providing picturesque waterfront views, this restaurant presents a casual menu featuring local favorites like fish tacos, seafood, burgers, and daily specials. Additionally, it caters to vegetarian and gluten-free diners while also hosting live music performances several nights a week.
Perfect spot for brunch, lunch, or dinner. Larger portions and good prices (esp compared to the rest of St. John)! Loved the fish tacos and soup of the day. Frozen drinks for $8!

Great atmosphere in an open bar across the street from the beach. Nice quiet location and good food. Had some new local hot sauces for us to try as well. Staff was fantastic too!

Grilled mahi-mahi sandwich was good. It’d be amazing with a mango salsa and a brioche bun instead but not complaining. The drinks were well poured and the overall atmosphere was a good vibe.

Julia N — Google review
I am sure the food here is good, but we unfortunately never were able to try it. The whole place was a hot mess when we visited it and it was grossly understaffed and poorly managed. We heard from locals that it could be hit or miss and it was a miss tonight. Perhaps we should have taken the warning signs more seriously when the table next to us had a guest never receive their meal while the others in their party had and already eaten them before anyone have any notice to the situation. We ordered drinks, which were not great, and then we waited 1.5 hours for our order to be prepared before being informed that they were actually out of the ingredients for the tacos we ordered. It took repeated attempts prior to that to understand what the status of our order was and it was clear that we were not alone. You could tell that everyone was waiting for their meals. When meals were delivered, they seemed to come out in dribs and drabs and never to the right tables in the order that they were placed. I felt very bad for the young woman running the bar who also seemed to be trying to get their kitchen in order. Her hands were very full. We tried being really patient knowing that many of the restaurants are dealing with staffing issues but everything about this evening was so poorly handled it made it difficult to just go with the flow. Ultimately we left without eating and hit the local market which was thankfully still open and picked up food to make at home.
Tom H — Google review
Delicious food and it is clean and has a great view of coral bay. The restaurant is completely outdoors. The waitstaff was very friendly and they even accommodated my severe food allergy! If you are gluten free they are very knowledgeable. I didn’t get sick and I am very sensitive. We will be back for more.
Christina F — Google review
Quick take: you shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes after being seated just to meet your server! Our first food (appetizers) didn't arrive until 60 minutes after we were seated. And that's after waiting half an hour to be seated! I know some delay is expected on St. John, especially Coral Bay, but if the front of the house had accurately communicated this kind of delay, we could've made an informed choice. The food was very good when it did arrive. We had conch fritters, calamari, grouper, fish tacos, and naked wings. All were cooked and plated well. While waiting we ordered a couple rounds of drinks from the bar and went grocery shopping (Dolphin Market) with the kids for entertainment. This is our third visit to Aqua Bistro in two trips to St. John. We would return to this restaurant again but we will definitely ask a lot more questions about realistic wait times before putting our name down and may avoid altogether if it looks backed up.
Greg M — Google review
Our group really liked the food here. Get the fried fish tacos. You'll thank me later. The staff was very friendly as well. The only issue we had was the drinks were inconsistent. Three of us got painkillers and all three were different, and one didn't have coconut in it at all. Great outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful weather makes this a perfect lunch spot.

Nestled at the intersection of Centerline and Rt 107, right by the iconic Welcome to Coral Bay sign, Ekaete Pink Corner is a delightful Caribbean restaurant that captures the essence of local cuisine. This charming eatery is run by Ekaete herself, who pours her heart into every dish. The menu features an enticing selection of local favorites such as rotis, BBQ ribs or chicken, conch in butter sauce, stewed oxtails, and pasta primavera.
Caribbean Authentic food options at the split in Coral Bay - goat/oxtail/jerk curry/stews and also a vegetarian option. All served with a salad, rice & peas, and vegetables. The hours may not always be consistent but it is worth the drive and visit if you are seeking Caribbean cooking! Exceptional!

Lovely place with amazing food. A true gem. Curried chicken, johnny cake, and ice cream was delicious.
Elle G — Google review
This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in Coral Bay! My husband and I ate lunch here and the food was outstanding - curried goat over red beans and rice, mashed potatoes (unlike any you've ever had) and a fresh small salad. Enough food for the two of us to share for lunch! We also has conch fritters that had just been made fresh - delicious, and had a generous scoop of homemade mango ice cream to finish one of the best, local Caribbean meals we had on the island. Make plans to go here if you want local, delicious, authentic Caribbean food! And the family (mother, father and daughter) that owns the restaurant was polite, gracious and explained some of the history behind the food that was interesting to learn.
Rhonda — Google review
So far, one of our favorite places we've eaten. It's not a white table cloth place, but the food is great. We had the oxtail and the jerk chicken, and they both fell off the bone. We also had a strawberry mango smoothie (definitely on the sweet side). There were a number of people ordering food and drinks with only one person working - be patient and just wait your turn, you weren't forgotten! Despite the busy rush, we were checked on a handful of times to make sure everything was ok. Cash only!
Aisha A — Google review
The food was amazing. We had the oxtail, chicken stew, and chicken curry - all of it was fantastic! And our server (I wish we caught her name) was so sweet and kind. We can't wait to go back.

Excellent Island Fare. When we called to see if they were open for dinner, the owner said they weren't supposed to be; they were getting ready to close up. But she said they had had an event and would stay open if we could get there soon. We hurried over and had one of the best Caribbean dinners ever! Jerk Chicken (pictured), jerk pork, ribs and a large helping of local flavor later, we left very happy. This is a small, open air place that is so quaint, if you were passing by you wouldn't maybe give a second look. But it's super clean and the food was hot, delicious and really good. If you are in Cruz Bay, it's worth the twisty turny scenic trip over for the straight forward not fancy island fare. If you are in Coral Bay, then it's a no-brainer because it's right there!! We will stop in every time we are in St John!!
Dolores L — Google review
This spot is exceptional. You will be attended by the owners. The food will provide a flavor of what is locals dish. Price is super economic. The restaurant also has recognition of having/creating home made ice cream. Very clean and no waiting a long time for your meal getting to the table. If you want a locals expirience this is the spot. Vegetarian dish is also available.
