Bar
Duffy's Esperanza is a popular hangout in Vieques, known for its lively atmosphere and elbow-to-elbow bar seating. The owner is a charismatic figure who enjoys chatting with locals. The menu offers more than just standard beach fare, featuring specials like conch fritters, scallop ceviche, grilled rib eye, and pan-seared pork loin. Additionally, wraps, sandwiches, and fried finger foods are available.
I decided to try Duffy’s after seeing the great reviews and it did not disappoint! The experience was fantastic from start to finish. Our server gave some great recommendations. I went with the spicy crab and seafood chowder which was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was lively and the view made it even better. Great food, great vibe!! 🦀🍸

Good, oceanfront restaurant with good food. I got exactly what I expected. The wedge salad was good. A little heavy on the dressing but still. The fish tacos were good but the fish was a bit on the dry side. I think shrimp tacos might have been better. Atmosphere and service were excellent and you can’t beat the location.

We were on a trip, and it was our first time visiting Vieques. Went with a group of friends (5 of us total), and we had a great time! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. It was a fun stop during our travels, and everything came out just right. Definitely recommend it if you’re visiting the area.

Duffy’s was cool! We went for the vegan options which are extremely limited in Vieques. A good portion of the menu could be veganized by substituting with the Praegger veggie burgers. We had the faux fish tacos, burgers, and plantain canoe (maduros). We also had rice, beans, fries, and piña coladas. It was all delicious! The restaurant is situated facing the water and the ambiance is wonderful. It was a little pricey for the portions but we enjoyed ourselves and the service was good.

Duffy's is a great spot in Esperanza to stop for a meal or drink. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was good, we had the red snapper and double double. They have a selection of PR beers and plenty of specials to try. The views are great and worth the stop regardless if you are at a table or a bar swing.
Adam D — Google review
Lunch was chill here, no lines. The fresh fried snapper was AMAZING!!!! The best fried fish ever!! 2 of us finished the 3lb extra large one (we thought we couldn’t but it was so tasty)

This is a very neat place. We only stopped in to grab a drink but briefly peaked at the menu as well as saw others food and it looks delicious. I will be eating there on the next trip to Vieques. Highly recommend the Pina Colada!!! The seats are very creative and add a fun twist

Amazing fish tacos fries and fish fry! Plus their pina colada is amazing! And you get to keep the cup for a free souvenir!

Bananas is a popular spot in Esperanza, offering a relaxed atmosphere with playful rain-forest murals and teal-colored tables. The menu features dishes like red snapper sandwich, jerk chicken, and Caribbean salads. The highlight is the deep-fried bananas with hot honey sauce. With an airy timber-built venue overlooking the ocean, it's an ideal place to enjoy island living vibes while sipping on tropical cocktails like pina coladas and mojitos.
We ate at Bananas Beach Bar twice during our stay in Vieques, and both times the food was absolutely excellent — big portions, super tasty, and perfectly cooked. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and special shoutout to Kiara, the owner’s daughter and the sweetest hostess ever (give Kiara a raise ). Overall, an amazing experience — highly recommended! 🌴✨

*This is a review based on the restaurant only* We were nervous to go to a 3.9 stars restaurant initially then I realized the restaurant and the guesthouse are combined which I didn’t think it was that fair. And to the review below, no restaurant is obligated to split bills, they have this rule on their website and the menu. Anyways, our options were limited on a Monday night (same with Sunday) as many places were closed but their menu has a ton of options unlike other places we’ve gone on the strip. I really wanted the whole fried fish but that was sold out just before I got there (around 7:30pm) so I got a trio seafood with 3 different types of fish with lobster risotto. Which was good but not something I’d order again (I don’t like peppers.) My husband got carne Fritas with plantains and rice and beans - which were amazing! Crispy yet tender at the same time. Good flavor too. Generous portions which we took home and had leftovers for breakfast before our ferry ride in the AM. Our “small” hot honey wings came with 10 pieces, which were small and the flavor was alright, it itched my wings cravings lol. Oh and we got rum and coke and mudslide which were not skimmed on alcohol. It was an overall positive experience for us, which made it better with Daniel our server, who was so attentive and kind.
Melody R — Google review
The restaurant is pretty good! Food was great, we ordered fish tacos and chicken tenders. We all really liked our orders, I enjoyed that they uave coleslaw and it was good. Service was great, our server was nice, friendly and warm. However, they don't split checks which is a big bummer! Also, they charge an 18% "service fee", which is really the tip and is OPTIONAL in Puerto Rico but they charge it as a mandatory fee. Should be left up to the customer. And i'm the kind of customer who always tips; but it's a choice.
Cecilia R — Google review
Really nice waiters, good food, and good drinks! It's one of the only places in town open past eight o'clock so that's useful for fellow late dinner enjoyers. Wanted to leave a good review because this place deserves more praise than it's been given. Our favorite fish and chips we've tried around the island so far and the calamari is also great!
Matylda — Google review
We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant yesterday. Both the main dishes grilled red snapper (also did not taste as fresh as what you would expect in an island like Puerto Rico) and pork chops seemed unseasoned. The “homemade” guava cheesecake was not good either. Not creamy and the guava taste was almost nonexistent - just a small swirl of guava jam on top. Maybe because it’s off season and all the regulars are on vacation. The drinks (non alcoholic passion fruit shake and a frozen banana alcoholic drink) were also mediocre for the price $7-9. We were the only ones there but the waitress wasn’t clearing our plates before we had a dessert.
Rhonda R — Google review
We visited this restaurant in Vieques as a group of around 15 friends and family members, excited to enjoy a nice evening together. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply frustrating from the start. When we asked to divide the bill by family groups, we were told we would have to sit separately to do so. We cooperated and split into separate tables—only to be told shortly after that we either had to sit as one group or leave entirely. The treatment we received from one of the waitresses, a foreign staff member, was incredibly rude and dismissive. She spoke to us in a condescending tone and made it very clear that we weren’t welcome. What shocked us even more was the implication that they don’t like serving locals. Several other customers left the restaurant after witnessing how we were treated. It’s a shame to see a business located in Puerto Rico, run by outsiders, showing such blatant disrespect toward the local community. Hospitality should be about inclusion and warmth—not exclusion and hostility. We won’t be returning, and we wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values respectful service.
Lisnel M — Google review
Service was good, food came out hot and fresh. The food however was not good. Alfredo was watery and flavorless. Lobster risotto was way too mushy and flavor okay. Fish and chips were good. Paella was about a 3out of 5. Shrimps were a pretty good size. Overall, I would not return.
Jessica P — Google review
Great place, we ended up eating here twice on our trip and came to roof top bar for a drink and sunset one night. People are friendly and service is good. We had the fish tacos, tuna, burger, etc… and all were good. Nice place to chill after the beach or before your bioluminescent tour like we did.

Sun Bay Beach

Beach
Sun Bay Beach, located on Vieques Island in Puerto Rico, is a renowned destination known for its stunning palm trees and lush landscapes. This beach has received the prestigious Blue Flag recognition multiple times. Additionally, Vieques Island is famous for the unique phenomenon of Bioluminescent Bay, where the water glows at night due to phosphorescent dinoflagellates.
We went during a low season. Enjoyed the low crowds. Such wonderful weather in February. Loved the beach. Clean and not too cold. So clear too! Lots of wild life such as parrots and iguanas!
D G — Google review
Serene and peaceful escape, with clean, clear water and stunning natural surroundings. Wild horses roaming freely add to its charm, and the beach is spacious and uncrowded. It’s just a 10-minute walk to the nearest town, and you can enjoy a scenic stroll along the shore. A perfect spot to escape and relax.
Toni K — Google review
Great beach and easily within a half hour walk of Esperanza! Very convenient if you don't have a car. Lots of palm trees and some shade. The water was nice and didn't have too much seaweed floating although there was some. Not much visibility for snorkelling but you could enjoy a swim here.
Zachariah W — Google review
🌴 Sun Bay Beach, Vieques — A Slice of Paradise! 🌊 Sun Bay is absolutely beautiful — soft golden sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and a calm atmosphere that makes you instantly relax. The beach is wide and clean, perfect for swimming, walking, or just laying under the palm trees enjoying the view. There’s plenty of space, so even when it gets busy, it still feels peaceful. The water stays shallow for a while, which makes it great for families or just floating around. The views of the nearby island and the clear blue sky are breathtaking — perfect for photos or just to sit back and take in the scenery. Parking was easy, and the beach is just a short drive from Esperanza. It’s also close to the bioluminescent bay, so you can make a full day out of it — beach during the day and bio-bay at night! If you’re visiting Vieques, don’t miss Sun Bay — it’s exactly what you imagine when you think of a Caribbean escape. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautiful, peaceful, and unforgettable.
Nestor C — Google review
Easily one of my top beaches visited while in Vieques - Sun Bay Beach is picturesque, with extremely tranquil waters - idyllic for swimmers and non swimmers alike. The beach has an expansive sandy shoreline, which could have you taking a stroll along the beach for 30 minutes + in either direction. I thoroughly enjoyed swimming and sunbathing here, along the pristine turquoise waters. Watching little fish swimming by right at my feet was so relaxing and refreshing to see. Our hotel luckily provided us with beach chairs and a cooler, which came in very handy, as there wasn’t an option to rent beach chairs or an umbrella. So, please do keep this in mind when visiting this gorgeous beach 🏝️!!!
Tania W — Google review
This beach is gorgeous. When we got to Vieques we wanted to go to Caracas Beach but they don’t open till 7am. This one was open at 6am time we got to Vieques. We were told it is the only beach in that area that has restroom and shower facilities. If you go early morning the beach is to yourself. It is clean, beautiful color water, palms trees that provide shade. There are areas with rocks where you can see crabs. Simply amazing!
Kellyn — Google review
Beautiful sandy beach and warm water. Music was playing over the weekend. Not far from all the restaurants. Mixed crowd of people, not overly crowded.
Holly S — Google review
The beach was beautiful and seeing all of the wild horses grazing about is serene . It cost 4 dollars to park here between 8 am and 4 pm but it's worth it for a beach that is this well kept and accessable . The one derogatory mark I can think of is there are a lot of thorny plants and seeds that can get stuck to your feet / clothing that will puncture skin and hurt if you are not careful. They aren't everywhere but all it takes is one wrong step to ruin a good time .

Lazy Jacks is a beach bar located on the Malecon in Esperanza, offering a laid-back tropical island vibe. During the day, it's a relaxed spot to enjoy coffee at the attached Window Cafe or savor rum-infused options. In the evening, it transforms into a lively cocktail destination. The menu features large pizzas perfect for sharing with family or friends and various pub foods.
Food is chill, drinks are good. Love the painkiller. Service was so nice I came here twice in a week and was served both times by a wonderful server/bartender named Erin. She’s beautiful, funny, and a pleasure to speak with! Loved that there is at least one late night spot on the island. 🍹❤️
Cana — Google review
Lazy Jack's is a solid bar serving drinks, beer, shots, and food. It is not a fancy place put the servers are fun and the food is good. I had the fried fish tacos a couple times and tried several local beers. This your only real option after about 8 at night for travelers and locals alike.

Very cute simple establishment! No wait, seated right away! Very friendly staff, drink/food order taken right away. Food came out within 10 minutes and everything was fresh. We ordered Da Big Fish & Chips with fries (this can feed 2 people) and Lazy Jacks Burger with a salad! Our server was Daniel, very nice and great conversations. This is a must try place. If going at night, bring bug spray.

Lazy jacks is just a great place to grab some good grub and chill. TV's, great food, great drinks, great people.
Josh S — Google review
The burger was top tier. We could taste the charbroil, and all the veggie topping were fresh and crisp. The piña colda was delicious, but sadly they were out of whipped creme. The painkiller topped with nutmeg brought this spot from dive bar digs to a place that knows good food and great vibes. They did forget to add our order in the system, but comped an add-on with no problem. Music and music videos were great entertainment along with the baseball game.

First day in Vieques. Not local food but hit the spot. Fish and chips was a huge portion. Chicken tacos were delicious. Service from Katelynn?(spelling) was great. All outdoor seating. Good view of the water.

We stopped in for drinks and had a great time! The atmosphere was fantastic, and the service was excellent. Perfect spot to relax and enjoy a few cocktails and an amazing view.

Lazy Jacks is a solid late-night spot, serving food well into the night when most other places have shut down. It’s often the only place on the street with music and a crowd, night after night. Some might say it’s not a ‘local’ spot, but hey—it’s open! The lively atmosphere, with people loudly playing dominoes, made sure I never forgot I was in Puerto Rico.

Outdoor Activities
Black Sand Beach, also known as Playa Negra, is a stunning and unique beach located on the island municipality of Vieques in Puerto Rico. The beach's distinct appearance comes from its black magnetic sand, which is created from volcanic rock. Despite some confusion about its color due to the tide bringing in normal sand, the black sand is indeed present beneath it.
Beautiful beach with a fun hike down a sandy path. Path will be wet so bring sandals. Once you reach the beach, you’ll see the amazing black sand. Horses may be roaming and other wildlife can be seen like crabs and lizards. Very quiet and beautiful.
Joel N — Google review
Nice little few hundred meter trail walk down to the beach. Not wheelchair or injury friendly at all...don't dress fancy as the trail is pretty full of water runoff. There was very little black sand from weather and time change unfortunately but still a nice beach to check out.
Drew L — Google review
Such a beautiful beach and a beautiful walk down a sand covered path was so nice to walk barefoot the entire way after breaking my sandal. At the top of the hill, before the path were a couple of local vendors with drinks and snacks. The path is cover by a jungle canopy that keeps most of the rain off of you. It was pouring the day we went but the path was quiet and mostly dry. Definitely worth the effort. Beautiful walk to a beautiful beach. I don't think this is a swimming beach though, at least it didn't seem to be during the time we went. The water was pretty rough and seemed eager to pull you out to sea. I would check with the locals before swimming here.
Chad B — Google review
Astounding place to wander during golden hour. The sand is very fine and very dark, though damage from Hurricane Maria has somewhat altered the shoreline. To get there, park on the street, find the sign slightly downhill to the left, and walk through a muddy riverbed also traversed by the local wild horses to access the shore. This beach is well worth the 10-15 minute hike.
Jessalyn A — Google review
Fascinating black sand beach, a ~15min trail down to the water. Plenty of room for exploring the area. Water is a bit choppy, not the best for relaxing but an incredible place to marvel
Jasmin B — Google review
Black Sand Beach, or Playa Negra in Vieques, is a true hidden gem and one of the most unique beaches in Puerto Rico. The dark, volcanic sand makes it unlike any other beach on the island — it feels almost magical as you walk along the shoreline surrounded by cliffs and lush greenery. The contrast of the black sand against the blue ocean creates an incredible view that’s perfect for photos. The beach is peaceful and not overly crowded, which makes it a great spot if you’re looking for something more quiet and natural. Getting there does require a short hike through a trail, but it’s part of the adventure and completely worth it once you arrive. While it’s not really a swimming beach due to stronger currents, it’s the perfect place to relax, walk, and take in the stunning scenery. It’s also a reminder of Puerto Rico’s volcanic history, making it both beautiful and fascinating. If you’re visiting Vieques, Black Sand Beach is a must-see — it’s not just a beach, it’s an unforgettable experience.
Nestor C — Google review
The walk from the main road to the beach is maybe 0.3miles (roughly 10 mins walk) - so not bad for most. It’s unfortunate that from my experience, I felt I had been misinformed about Playa Negra. There was a portion of the beach that had the darker/black coloured sand. But to me, the majority of the beach was the regular colour of the sand in Vieques, and the water seemed a little rougher than along other parts of the island. What was beautiful was having a wild horse walk up to me to say hello when I first got to the beach! That was definitely the perk of my visit!
Tania W — Google review
Worth the hike to visit this ancient beach that has a sparkling black volcanic sand. Best to visit during the golden hour for stunning lighting enhancing the experience while big waves come in and produce a spectacular mist in the air.

Puerto Rican restaurant
Restaurante Bili is a must-visit spot in Puerto Rico, known for its signature drink called Bili, which is made by fermenting rum with the tropical fruit Quenepas. This local favorite captures the essence of the Caribbean and is especially popular during the summer months when quenepas are in season. The process involves infusing white rum with quenepas, vanilla, brown sugar, and cinnamon before allowing it to cure in a dark place for about a month.
The food was absolutely incredible — we got the appetizer sampler, chicken & mofongo, paella puertorriqueña, the sangría, & the piña colada tres leches cake. The chicken was easily one of the best pieces I’ve ever had — you can taste the char of the grill & it was so moist and flavorful. Could not recommend Restaurante Bili enough!!
Krista W — Google review
Ate twice here while visiting. Relaxed vibe, kind and friendly staff, nice drinks and delicious food. I eat a plant based diet which limited my options, but I found 2-3 great choices there, and all were made with care (not just meat dishes without the meat). The vegetarian paella was especially delicious! I heard the seafood one was too. Highly recommend.
P. — Google review
Restaurante Bili is definitely a very popular restaurant, in a bustling part of town; and it tends to be busy each and every day (for dinner) that they are open!! So, I say all this to say - make sure to make a reservation if you’d like to avoid a long wait &/or disappointment with there not being a table available. We were extremely lucky to have gotten a table with a relatively short wait on a busy evening. Likely because it was within the last hour of the restaurant’s opening!! Now - on to the best part… the FOOD! The creamy pumpkin soup with an arepa was really delicious!!! Full of flavour, prepared with passion and love and I would definitely go back for more! For our mains, my sister and I decided to both have the seasonal fresh caught fish with Puerto Rican yellow rice - YUMMMM! My only regret is that the fish was not big enough… I would have loved MORE! Overall this was a great dining experience.
Tania W — Google review
Absolutely recommend Restaurante Bili! We got right in at 6:30 on a Tuesday. The staff was super friendly and attentive without making us feel rushed. We had the appetizer sampler which was three small bites of each option which was so good and perfect for two people. I wish they bottled the chimichurri they have with the Empanadas! The cod fritters are SO good and not too fishy. Great for kids who like fish sticks. The mofongo bite - delightful. The corn and cheese bites with tomato jelly are the sweet treat of the plate. We also ordered the lobster, as its caught locally, and did NOT regret it! Grilled to perfection, juicy on the inside and served with lime and butter. It was large enough for two people to split, as well as the portions of rice and beans. The rice was cooked to perfection and the beans you could tell had been cooked low and slow, so much flavor! We also saw that the chef cooking our lobster was a woman, even better! ;) Grilled plantains came with the chef as well and were the perfect dessert. So, compliments to the chef it was absolutely delicious! Dont sleep on this spot.

We arrived in Vieques late on a weekend and happened to stumble upon this spot by chance, as many other restaurants were closed. We’re so glad we did! Everything—from the food to the service was absolutely wonderful. The staff was incredibly attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. The highlight of our meal was without a doubt the grilled lobster—hands down the best either of us has ever had! If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and make sure to stop by.
Greta C — Google review
This place is a solid 4.5 stars. Everything is good, but slightly overcooked. Drinks were excellent.

We really enjoyed our meal! The staff was so nice and there are lots of options for people who don’t feel like red meat. I had crab pasta and my husband had a great chicken dish. The drinks were good too.

Amazing service. Food is good. We got the sampler and tostones con ensalada de carrucho. Bacalaitos is my favorite. Very flavorful. Then chicken empanadas is my second favorite. I like the chimichurri sauce a lot. I like appetizers better than entree. Grilled lobster and whole red snapper are good, but not the best I’ve had.

Great service, great drinks, great vibes, breakfast was probably one of the best options on the island, but truthfully my mahi bites were quite fishy, and the other plates were okay. My espresso martini was amazing! Salmon toast was also delicious, I should have ordered two! Service was so warm and kind and fast, they never rushed us out and let us enjoy our drinks and the beautiful morning in Vieques.

You won’t regret coming to this place! Very friendly staff and incredible food. We came two mornings in a row! First had the omelette which was delicious and filling, great homemade hot sauce. Came back to try the pancakes after seeing how fancy they looked! Ordered turtles cheesecake and peanut butter banana. They also had incredible coconut coffee. Big thank you from your Canadian friends :)

THE coffee!!!!! Do not go anywhere else for breakfast or coffee. I am so glad we had the opportunity to eat here. We ate here with our 3 energetic boys and the staff could not have been more friendly. But the food and coffee- HEAVEN . They have homemade creamer mixed with coconut milk. It is DELICIOUS the food- wow. Best OMELETTE i have ever had . And THE VIEWS. Holy WOW.

Favorite meal so far in Puerto Rico. Highly recommend the waffles. French toast and the fat boy pancake (1” thick) also good. I enjoyed my tacos rancheros.

The location is perfect for a quite beach side breakfast. Haven't sipped on coffee to a better view. The staff were so kind and made great food recommendations. The coconut coffee was an absolute game changer! It was so good I had to get one for the road too. The omlet and turtle pancakes were absolutely delicious! It's a must stop breakfast location when visiting Esperanza! Will definitely be going back!

Restaurant
Café Del Mar is a charming restaurant located in La Esperanza, Vieques. It offers a variety of creative cocktails and daily specials such as pulled pork sandwiches and meatloaf. The restaurant often updates its specials on Facebook, so it's worth checking out before visiting. While the takeout service may be slow at times, the food is described as incredible, with dishes like spinach dip with garlic bread and mahi pan-seared with shrimp receiving high praise.
Amazing breakfast! I had burrito with sausage (homemade salsa on the side was sooo good) and my husband had basic breakfast plate with 2 sunny fried eggs. The only thing - they are running busy and 1 waiter and 1 chief isn’t enough, but it worth waiting
Olena K — Google review
Food and vibes immaculate 😁 Seriously, the breakfast was so so good. Coffee was strong and fortifying, eggs tasted so fresh and the bread was light and fluffy and amazing. Views added to the ambience but seriously dont sleep on this place.
Mya C — Google review
Unfortunately, my experience at Café Del Mar was very disappointing. I arrived alone, traveling, and was completely ignored from the start. Unlike other customers, I wasn’t greeted kindly, there was no smile, no basic courtesy. I had to go up and place my order myself. The waitress, Janelle, wasn't friendly at all, she was cold, dismissive, and distant. I’m not sure if it was because of my accent or the fact that I was alone, but I truly felt unwelcome and singled out. This treatment was upsetting and ruined what should have been a peaceful start to my day in Vieques. I do not recommend this place if you are looking for kindness, warmth, or respect.

Not Recommended – Disappointing Experience with Unwelcoming Staff We had a very disappointing experience during our visit on Tuesday, May 27th at 10:30am. Upon arrival, we were second in line to be seated and waited over 15 minutes without a single acknowledgment from the staff — no greeting, no update, and no eye contact, despite several open tables and the open-air layout of the restaurant. While waiting, my 3-year-old daughter needed to use the restroom, so I walked toward a hallway that appeared to lead there. A staff member behind the bar abruptly asked, “What do you want?” — which caught me off guard. When I explained we were looking for the restroom, she snapped again, telling me they weren’t in that direction and then pointed, without explanation, around the building. There was no guidance, and her tone was unnecessarily harsh. When we returned, we waited another 10 minutes with no interaction from the staff. A longer line had formed behind us, yet we still received no acknowledgment — so we ultimately left and went elsewhere. Only two staff members appeared to be working at the time, but the lack of basic courtesy and hospitality left a very negative impression. I hope this feedback is helpful for the owner in improving guest experience moving forward. For the owner - this occurred on Tuesday May 27, 2025 at 10:30am. There were only two women working outside at that time, so hopefully this helps you narrow it down.

The employees here are incredibly rude. I went in there for a takeout order. They told me and my friend to sit at the bar. So we did, and then the lady that works at the bar gave us a lot of attitude, she was rolling her eyes and had a nasty look. So we quickly left the place after we got our food. I left my card there by accident, I came back today to get it. The guy who gave us the takeout order said it was karma for not tipping him. All he did was give us the takeout food, we don’t sit there and eat. We didn’t asked to be seated either. Why should I give him a tip when we didn’t even eat at the place?
Nikita N — Google review
The food is very bland and the service is slow. This darker skinned bustier lady who works at the bar is so rude. Avoid this place at all costs. They just stare at you like you are a nuisance. There’s this other guy who is a lighter complexion that works with the lady, he’s rude too. I don’t know what type of employees the owner is hiring. I’ve never had an experience as bad as this one. Note to the owner: I suggest you hire kinder employees or your business is going to take a hit. Kindness gets you very far at a restaurant!
Banani R — Google review
Enjoyed two nice breakfast experiences on the waterfront. Both times was taking the food to go as I wanted to walk across the street to the beach. My experience was that the takeout was extremely slow both times (20+ minutes for one sandwich). In terms of the service, I agree with other reviewers that the staff is not overly friendly and will likely not be very attentive. I noticed on both occasions that they were very understaffed with only two members on the floor working. So if you chose to patronize Cafe Del Mar, please be patient with them. They were sold out of pancakes and bacon which seems really odd for a breakfast place. I went with the breakfast sandwich with sausage. BF got the breakfast burrito. Both were AMAZING!! We also tried the Coco Coffee which was yummy.
Alexandra M — Google review
Food was not good. They say homemade bread, but it is definitely not homemade. Ask the waiter for a water cup and she said that they don’t pay her for that really loud and everyone stared at us. Better off going to lazy Jack’s up the street for just about anything. It would also be acceptable to go hungry as opposed to go into this place.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Vieques, Tin Box Vieques Restaurant and Bar is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to refuel after a day soaking up the sun. This charming eatery boasts an inviting atmosphere and exceptional service, making it perfect for beachgoers. The menu is a delightful mix of fresh seafood, BBQ chicken and pork, flavorful fish tacos, juicy steaks with homemade fries, and even sushi options that highlight local ingredients like spiny lobster.
*Call ahead to make reservations* We were lucky to get a seat! Unbelievable food, experience, and atmosphere! This may be the best restaurant I've ever been to. Sushi, BBQ – everything was fantastic. All 7 of us (parents and kids) enjoyed every bite; our kids all agreed this is our favorite restaurant on and off the island. Samantha, our server, was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend!

Tin Box Treehouse – Dinner Review Perched among the palms just outside Esperanza, Tin Box pulls off the rare trifecta of killer food, laid-back vibes, and service that feels like old friends catching up. Here’s the breakdown of our night: ⸻ Highlights • Service (11/10) Our server, Samantha, deserves her own line on the menu. She greeted us with a grin, answered every “What’s this sauce?” question, and somehow slipped island history into drink recommendations. When my toddler’s fork took a header off the deck, she reappeared with a fresh one before I could blink. Absolute heart of gold. • Ambiance (10/10) Imagine an oversized treehouse strung with Edison bulbs, a gentle trade-wind breeze, and swing seats at the sushi bar. Horses clopped by underneath while a local guitarist played Jack Johnson covers. If you’re looking for a “this is the Vieques I came for” setting, this is it. • Must-order plates • Badass Bacon – Candied, house-cured strips served in a mason jar. Sweet-smoky perfection and the fastest way to shut down table chatter. • BBQ Trio Platter – Ribs that slide off the bone, juicy pulled pork, and smoky chicken—with sweet-potato fries that disappeared faster than the meat. Perfect split for two. • Catfish Tacos – Crispy, flaky fillets, bright cilantro crema, and just enough jalapeño heat. A surprise standout. • Hush-Puppies – Listed as a side, but trust me: they’re dessert. Drizzled with local honey, light as beignets. • Drinks Frozen margaritas here are dangerously smooth—classic lime for me, passion-fruit for my wife. Samantha steered us toward a virgin mango colada for the kiddo, and we all left sipping happy. ⸻ Tiny Quibbles • The Sesame Ahi Tuna looked beautiful but ran a touch salty for our taste—still good, just overshadowed by that bacon. • Island pacing is real: entrées hit the table 25 minutes after apps. Nothing outrageous, but worth noting if you’ve got an overtired toddler. ⸻ Bottom Line Tin Box isn’t just a meal; it’s a tree-top evening you’ll brag about when you get home. Between Samantha’s five-star hospitality, plates that nail sweet–savory balance, and a setting straight out of a surf-lifestyle magazine, this spot earns a solid 5 / 5 from our crew. Go hungry, order the bacon first, and save room for those honey-kissed hush-puppies.

Such a fun place. The service was quick and knowledgeable about the menu. We had sushi lasagna and BBQ trio. Both were fantastic. Fresh, local juices in the drinks
Terry B — Google review
Very unusual place both with menu selection as combination of BBQ and sushi. The baked beans side was amazingly different with heavy cilantro and other Caribbean flavors, and ribs and chicken great too. The multi level seating gives terrific views of the jungle backyard with several varieties of birds. However the choice of background music (80s disco and similar) really negated the ambiance, especially at a loud enough level to make talking difficult. It might be more supportive of the ambiance created by location to instead have microphones amplifying the natural sounds of the jungle for diners to enjoy. That might complement the food, or at least have music like new age instrumental that might lean toward sounds of running water and chines to better complement the sushi theme. The experience while tasty was discordant, creating uneasiness versus pleasure. There’s a lot of potential here to be better by focusing more consistently on what the intented essence is and do that very well. Also while BBQ had so many positives (although not he pulled pork wasn’t anything special), the calamari was way over cooked and tasteless.

This is the first time I've been to a restaurant that had sushi and something else and it's was good. The sushi on its own is great. The smoked ribs were perfection. Jalapeño watermelon margaritas were super tasty.

Cool all-outdoor restaurant with very interesting and unique flavor pairings, fresh ingredients, and well presented dishes. Only frustration was that my initial draft beer request took a very long time to fulfill, but food came quickly after. This place has lots of seating including booths for larger parties.

D’Frozz is a charming ice cream shop located in downtown Isabel II, offering delicious homemade ice cream in a colorful and inviting setting. Visitors can enjoy the heavenly air conditioning while indulging in decadent treats on humid Puerto Rican days. The shop also serves excellent food, remarkable pastries, and coffee drinks. While orders may take some time to be filled, the relaxed island atmosphere encourages visitors to embrace the leisurely pace.
Stopped by this morning (09/01/24)before heading out back to the San Juan. There was only 2 customers ahead of us. We ordered two bagels, a hot latte, and hot chai tea. It took a good 20-25 minutes. Everything was good and satisfying. They were only taking cash at the time and I believe there was only one cook. I’d consider coming back to try their ice cream. I’d say give them a try before going based on reviews. 🤷🏽‍♂️
Benjamin L — Google review
The reviews I have read here are less than favorable for this place, so we did not give it a try right away. However, right before the storm (hurricane Ernesto) it was one of the few places that was open. They were also open right after the storm. The place is fine. Not the best coffee I’ve ever had, and certainly not the worst. It feels very mainland, almost like a Starbucks. The servers seem friendly. I think one of the main complaints was that it is cash only. And that is unusual, (especially with so many ways to pay electronically, from taps to phones to other ways of using credit). So a place that only accepts cash is bound to receive some complaints. It was also a little bit more expensive than some of the other places that were selling coffee. But the coffee was good. Servers were very nice. The ice cream selection was interesting. Red velvet ice cream, anyone? And the cups are cute with handwritten notes written on them. Again, they were also one of the few places open after hurricane Ernesto, their generator was humming away, and a lot of folks were there, buying their coffee and tapping away on their laptops, trying to secure the next ferry or change airplane reservations.

We wandered into D’Frozz after getting off the ferry, as it was the only place open on a Thursday afternoon. The ice cream and smoothies were surprisingly tasty, though a bit pricey. The atmosphere was lively, with students filling most of the seating. Conveniently, there’s a grocery store right across the street with only slightly higher-than-average prices. A decent stop if you’re in the area and craving something sweet. Taro ice cream hit the spot.

Went on a Sunday and there was only one person working. It was a bit crowded and maybe my review would have been better if they had someone else working. Coffee was good, no complaints at all... Ambiance was good also, nothing pretentious nor super simple. Totally im between. Would recommend it but definitely needed more staff.

Worst iced latte of my life. $7 for an extremely watered down coffee with a micro splash of milk. They had an espresso machine, but there was no espresso in my latte… 😶 We got two. I threw mine away after one sip. The other is shown in the picture before we threw that out too.

Nothing worst than asking in a proper manner about the menu and restrooms and receiving a wrong answer like I sm not the owner.... people should learn to be respected. Don’t waste your money and time by going here. We waited 40 minutes for two salads and two sandwiches and we had to go up to the counter after 30 because we were just waiting, a salad and sandwich were sitting in the sill for who knows how long, they didn’t tell us they were ready. The salad (tropical) didn’t come with dressing, they said they only had ranch and Caesar dressing (doesn’t go well with fruit) AFTER we ordered and had already paid. Turns out one of the salads wasn’t wrung up (Caesar) so they hadn’t even started making it yet. When it came out it looked almost identical to the tropical minus the fruit, just lettuce, parm, croutons, cherry tomatoes (?), and dressing on the side. I went up to tell them about the error, and the cashier asked if I would like a refund, but then the cook stepped in and said that’s how they make it, and tried to tell me it wasn’t so similar to the tropical salad. The manager refused to refund the Caesar salad even though they had gotten hostile. Completely not worth it, don’t waste your money and time.

Buen Provecho, also known as bon appetit, is a popular spot for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Located on the main street of Isabelle II, this BYOB restaurant offers a down-to-earth atmosphere and unmatched service. In addition to its delectable menu items, Buen Provecho also operates as a deli and gourmet store, offering an assortment of gourmet items such as cheeses, meats, artisan breads, and more.
We ate breakfast at Buen Provecho on one of the mornings of our stay in Vieques. The service and food were great. We sat at the bar, and Dawn took great care of us! We had the breakfast burrito and the classic breakfast and both were delicious. I had the bloody Mary, which came with a sidecar of beer. If you like horseradish, this is the drink for you. Would definitely eat here again.

Amazing breakfast with great friendly service. Just a little on the expensive side ($18 for slow roasted pork and poached eggs plate) but very much worth it. Food was all carefully prepared and presented. I was very happy to have a small French roast coffee pot for two. It reminded me of California cafes, but with better service. Definitely where I'll eat next visit.

Best place in Vieques to eat delicious breakfast, with healthy ingredients like organic eggs. The coffee was awesome! Real maple syrup for the pancakes. They serve in real plates and cups, no Styrofoam. Delicious smoothies, avocado toast, power bowl. Cute place.

This place is bodegalicious. Breakfast options were all really tasty, and they have a nice variety of sandwich and salad options for lunch. We had a huge order (should have called ahead, it was unplanned) and the staff was very patient and made sure everyone was getting in and out in a timely fashion. Like any good bodega they also have a smattering of various snacks, fruits, seasonings, deli offerings, etc. in case you need provisions for later. They also have a well stocked bar and wine selection. Can't go wrong!

What can I say? When you have it all in one place! Good selection of cheese, variety of breakfast, walking distance from the ferry, and name what type of coffee do you want you got it. Even my favorite Venezuelan Rum Diplomático. Service was A1 the one that every customer deserves ❤️

We visited several times back in March 2018 and after our visit today, I'm happy to say it's exactly as we remembered it. This place has a great location downtown and even has a nice view of the ocean if you manage to get a window counter seat. You'll always find very friendly service and great food. We've only ever eaten here for breakfast (the pancakes are amazing!), but I'm sure lunch is just as good. There's also a nice selection of deli items available for purchase. Buen Provecho is definitely on our 'must visit' list when visiting Vieques. Highly recommend!!!

History Museums
El Fortin de Conde Mirasol Museum is a 19th-century fortress perched on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean in Vieques. Originally built to defend Puerto Rico from seafaring threats, it was the last Spanish fort constructed in the Americas. The colonial-style fort has been meticulously restored and now houses an art gallery and an extensive collection of indigenous artifacts.
I recently visited El Fortin de Conde Mirasol Museum, a captivating testament to history and resilience. As the last Spanish fort built in the Americas, its restoration provides a unique opportunity to experience the past. The museum not only showcases the rich culture of the island but also sheds light on its struggles, including the impact of the US Navy bombings. Wandering through the well-preserved fort, I was immersed in the island's history, appreciating the efforts to preserve and share this important heritage. The fact that admission is free makes it accessible to all, allowing everyone to connect with the island's profound narrative. One of the highlights was the breathtaking view from the fort, offering a panoramic perspective of the various barrios. Witnessing the expanse of their journey through time, it was evident how much the island has endured and evolved. El Fortin de Conde Mirasol Museum is not just a site to behold; it's a journey into the heart of Puerto Rico's past. I highly recommend this enriching experience for anyone eager to explore the island's history and culture.

This was an enjoyable experience for a quick day tour. It's free to the public as well. We were staying at an Airbnb just down the road from here and walked over. The small Fort offers a small type museum with a few artifacts, pictures but the panoramic views are beautiful. They're great for selfies scenic photos. I would recommend to go early because it will get very hot and uncomfortable

Such a great historical place in the hands of employees that do not want to do their job. Mixing politics and anti american sentiment was what i felt even as i im Puerto Rican i felt like we where not wanted, the gentrification speech against americans was there, even i felt it. Besides that is a structure that should be saved. To the tourism co, spend some money on it.

El Fortín de Conde Mirasol Museum, located in Vieques, Puerto Rico, offers a rich dive into the island's history and culture. Housed in a restored 19th-century fort, the museum showcases exhibits on Taino heritage, colonial history, and local art. Its panoramic views of the Caribbean are stunning. The museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those looking to understand Vieques' unique past.

The fort is definitely worth going to see . I enjoyed the view and the iguanas were the best I seen on the island. The art inside on the walls was extraordinary. You could spend a short time learning the history of vieques or a lifetime. The art inside the fort ranges from present time to the beginning of civilization on the island and some of it is for sale.

Puerto Mosquito Bioluminescent Bay, located on the southern shore of Isla de Vieques, is renowned for being the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world. This natural wonder was officially recognized by Guinness World Records in 2008 and is also the largest of its kind. The bay offers a mesmerizing experience as bioluminescent creatures light up the water, creating a stunning glow-in-the-dark effect.

A once in a lifetime experience, to see one of natures greatest creations. Best to visit on a clear night with no moonlit sky. Most tours offer clear kayaks so you can watch the glow as you paddle your way out into the bay. No need for shoes on your tour you will get your feet wet. Definitely recommend The Pirate Bio Bay Tour as they have the largest air conditioned bus to accommodate group tours. Keep your phone in your pocket you will be busy paddling and will definitely enjoy the glowing experience more without it.

El Quenepo in Esperanza, Vieques is a well-respected restaurant known for its elegant dining experience. Located on the waterfront Malecon, it offers a touch of class with linen-dressed tables and gorgeous decor without being pretentious. Many consider it the most romantic restaurant on the island, with open arches allowing a continuous sea breeze and an upstairs balcony for additional seating options.
An excellent dinner! Everyone enjoyed their meal and finished most of them. They would have all been eaten but the portions were very generous. The seafood mofongo was the best along with the carefully crafted cocktails.

We had such a pleasant experience at this restaurant. It was a nice atmosphere. A few large parties and several couples. It never got obnoxiously loud. Our server was very helpful with his suggestions. I thought the food took an appropriate amount of time to come out. The dessert was delicious. I did remove one star from the food rating. I asked for my meat medium. It was more of a medium-well.
Ana B — Google review
We had a very disappointing experience here. From the start, we didn’t feel very welcomed — as a brown couple, we sensed a bit of discriminating attitude from some of the staff. We ordered two appetizers (Crispy Pana & Corn Gordita and Mariscada Martini) along with drinks. The food took around 20 minutes, which was fine, but one of the dishes came out completely wrong. When we pointed it out, the person who seemed to be the manager was quite rude and insisted that we had ordered an entrée — even though the item we mentioned was clearly listed only under appetizers. Instead of listening, she gave us attitude. Thankfully, our server later apologized and admitted it was her mistake. The food itself was just okay for the price — nothing impressive. Overall, the service and attitude completely ruined the evening. Definitely not worth the hype or the price, and we wouldn’t go back.

The service was a bit lacking and it's definitely the most expensive restaurant on the island, but the food made up for all of it. Great drinks as well. If you can afford to splurge some, give this place a try

We made reservations through the app on the website and were immediately created with smiles and shown straight to our seats. From the wine list and cocktails to amazing duck and goat dishes, we had an amazing time.

2025 update- our server, Samantha (Sammy) was amazing-extremely attentive and engaging, and excellent at describing dishes we did not understand just from reading the menu. We only ate at El Quenepo one time as a splurge this year. First I had a delicious mocktail, and grilled pears while my husband had “la sopa de la noche” which was a seafood bisque/chowder. As main course, I had the yellowfin tuna “BLT,”and my husband had duck with peas and pomegranate seeds. All were delicious and innovative, as we have come to expect at El Quenepo. Google would not let me write a whole second review or I would include more detail. Quenepo is still the best, most innovative haute cuisine we have had in Vieques, but it is pricey, so we only went once this year. Written in 2024- Quenepo is the best place in Vieques I have found for a gourmet “foodie” meal. We dined in for the second time tonight and it was amazing! We were greeted at the door and escorted to our (reserved) table. Our server, Adam, was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and noted every detail. We started with a piña colada and a tall glass Moscow mule. Adam understood exactly what we wanted, and both drinks were expertly made. Our appetizers were the Mariscada Martini (ceviche) and the mesquite grilled prawns. I cannot overstate it- the ceviche was the best I have ever had-fresh squeezed citrus, tomato, jalapeño, fresh ginger, and cilantro -served with crisp arepas. My husband had the pan seared Long Island duck breast over fontina risotto cake with mission fig ratatouille and pomegranate molasses, and I had the Sicilian shellfish sautee over linguine. Both were outstanding!

Update: 2025 Last year i gave this place 5 stars, this year it’s not even close. It’s hard to judge a restaurant based on one experience, but that’s the business. The service is still slow and not excellent. The fish and ceviche are very good. Do not get steak here! They have no clue what medium rare means and the price is 67$. It’s still an ok choice for fine dinning and still not cheap. The drinks are still good. 2024: Great food, but somewhat limited menu. Probably one of the best on the island. Service is slow, but not unusual for the area. Great drinks. Make a reservation here. Not cheap.

This is our fourth visit to Vieques since 2018 and our second time dining at El Quenepo. Tonight's meal was one of the best meals we've ever on the island, which is saying something, as we've had some very memorable experiences in previous visits, both here and at other restaurants on the island. We are always amazed at the culinary expertise and experience that can be found on this tiny little island. We had the Yellowfin Tuna “Poke" and Warm Housemade Focaccia Bread for appetizers, the Yellowfin Tuna BLT and Filet Mignon for entrees, and the Goat Cheese Cheesecake for dessert. The Filet Mignon was melt-in-your mouth tender and the combines flavors of the Yellowfin Tuna BLT, with the tomato, arugula, tuna, pancetta, and sauce, were amazing. If you've made it to Vieques, but haven't visited El Quenepo, do yourself a favor and make reservations. Be prepared for the "island time" service experience, which isn't a bad thing. This place is always at or near the top of our 'must visit' list when we come to Vieques and we highly recommend it.

Mosquito Pier

4.6
(301)
Mosquito Pier in Vieques is a popular spot for scuba diving, especially for beginners. The old naval pier offers great views and opportunities for fishing and boat launching. It's also a good place to admire the coastline and see colorful fish without going far from the shore. However, it's important to be cautious of jellyfish during their season from August to October. Visitors can also enjoy snorkeling around the pier with guided tours available for a more immersive experience.
What a gorgeous Pier; did not find the steps to snorkel though. Did we go right before hurricane Ernesto? Yes. It was the actual day of Ernesto, and we were waiting for the storm to hit. It was breezy, certainly not a day you wanted to snorkel, but none of the ferries were leaving and all of the flights were canceled, and we were hunkered down for the storm. Yet we were eager to get out and walk around before being trapped inside for a bit. So we drove out to the pier in the afternoon. It was deserted at first, because of course, nobody was snorkeling, or even out. The water was already starting to churn. It was oddly beautiful. A few folks came by later, but for a long time we had the pier all to ourselves. Eerie, incredibly. We had to hold onto our cell phones, due to wind, in fact. Still, what a beautiful long pier!! Even if you’re not underneath it, snorkeling, which, of course we did not do on such a blustery day, walking out on the pier itself is magnificent, because it’s so long, and is a beautiful dramatic slab of concrete. Also, there’s plenty of parking. The idea that this could be a longer pier and, at some point, perhaps a bridge to the mainland is enchanting. Perhaps that was just a rumor? The pier is beautifully constructed. Well-maintained, actually. I also heard that it was supposed to be another stop for one of the ferries, but it looks like that idea was abandoned. Near the pier, at the entrance, there’s all sorts of wonderful big rocks to climb on, and so we did so, and took some photos. This may be the area where the steps are going down to the snorkeling area, and we just did not see them. It was tricky to navigate things on such a windy day. But I imagine it would be a wonderful place to snorkel. The water did not look as crystal clear as some others have posted, because again… Storm was brewing. But the pier was still magical to visit.
Lockie H — Google review
Pier wasn't really a pier...in terms of what we are used to. It was more like a large ship dock where you couldn't walk on much of it. The road out there was nice but didn't see much in terms of fish or turtles. Snorkeling at the beach area was okay, but visibility was low.
Marcus K — Google review
I was told this was an amazing place to snorkel. I did see some beautifully colorful coral. I saw a variety of fish also, some angel fish, parrotfish, and other varieties. The water here though is not very protected and can be very rough and choppy so be careful. There were also plenty of jellyfish as there's a lot of open water. I got a small sting, nothing to worry about but be prepared to wear full coverage clothes for this snorkeling. Otherwise, there wasn't anything all that special to see there. Both in the water and definitely the pier was nothing exciting.
Jen D — Google review
AMAZING snorkeling under the pier! Highly recommend! We saw several large turtles hanging out under the pier, snacking on the coral. There were also tons of tropical fish, including barracudas. Some other really large fish like 3 feet long. Lots of angel fish. The coral is beautiful with tons of little fishes. You have to swim under the pier itself to see the best wildlife. If you are driving down, there is a bench on your left about 3/4 of the way down. And there close to the bench are stairs that go down for easy access to the water. I recommend bringing some water sandals because it’s a little rocky and there are sea urchins. We rented snorkels, life vests, and flippers from Fun Brothers in Esperanza. We went at 10:30am which was low tide so the water was not too rough and visibility was good. We felt safe! I’m not a strong swimmer so I snorkeled with a life vest. My friend is a strong swimmer and swam it without a life vest.
Rachel Y — Google review
The views here were really beautiful. I wish that I had the time to snorkel... and that I saw a place to do it that felt like I was supposed to be entering the water. Just to come, sit, enjoy the sound of the water and read would be totally worth it.
Christina — Google review
We’ve visited this per a few times now and the views never get old. This time around we tried some snorkeling before the pier itself. The clarity was perfect and the water was calm. We were able to see various fish species and some corals. There are multiple stops you can pull off the main road to park and there’s one place that had a set of stone stairs that made it really convenient to get in and out of the water.
Abraham L — Google review
The waters around Mosquito Pier are the most beautiful Caribbean blue I've seen around the island. And it's so clear that it's obvious why this spot is favored for snorkeling. But as with many places on the island, this point of interest is darkened by the US Navy's destruction of the natural habitat. We can understand the locals' hesitancy to turn this into another ferry terminal.
Dawn K — Google review
This is an old navel pier on the North side of Vieques with plenty of places to fish and launch boats. The pier goes out considerably into the sea and offers great views and good fishing. My family was able to see a sea turtle while we were visiting the pier in early July. There are a great deal of trucks with boat trailers so be careful parking. There is also a nice little beach on the shore at the beginning of the pier. You can snorkel from that beach along the pier and see quite a few interesting organisms like star fish.

Coqui Fire Cafe is a popular spot known for its spicy food and hot sauces, drawing rave reviews from visitors. The cafe offers a mix of Caribbean and Mexican cuisine, with standout dishes like enchiladas, burritos, and chile relleno. It's considered an ideal date-night destination with an intimate ambiance and flavorful cocktails like margaritas and mojitos.
If I could give this place a 6/5 I would. Everything I ordered was perfection. I ordered the Carnitas and my wife ordered the catch of the day along with some appetizers and drinks. There was nothing we tasted that wasn't better than almost everything we've previously had in n the island. We sat next to a couple that explained they come here for vacation every year and make it part of their mission to visit this restaurant because of how outstanding the food is. They have a vast array of different hot sauces for all the spice lovers and if you come on a special day you can potentially catch the chefs homemade one time only concoctions.

Small, charming, lovely place for an excellent meal. Make reservations! We had the catch of the day served over yucca. This will make you very happy. Also the blackened shrimp with mole was quite good. The brownie with raspberry sauce was quite scrumptious. The cocktails were fun. This was the best meal in Vieques. Seriously, go here at least once. The service is great.

Best meal I had on the island! Lucked out by snagging a bar spot last minute so you’ll definitely want to make a reservation if you’re in a group. The bartender and staff made us feel right at home. Ordered the carnitas and enchiladas which seemed like simple dishes, but they were packed with flavor! It is reasonably priced and you get large portions. Their homemade hot sauces were served as a tasting flight with dinner and are available to buy online so you can always have a kick of Coqui Fire in your own home kitchen. Can’t recommend this place enough!
Melissa H — Google review
A fantastic find after a day of exploring beaches and the island. Their menu had plenty of labeled vegetarian options and was easily customizable. We loved sampling their hot sauce, though sadly, it wasn’t carry-on friendly. The chips, salsa, and guac were outstanding, and the drinks were unique and delicious. We tried the veggie burrito and salad, which were both excellent, while a friend raved about the chicken taco. The only letdown was the carrot cake with an oat-based layer—it wasn’t great. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, and worth the visit. A must-try spot in Vieques!
Ramya A — Google review
From the outside the place doesn’t look anything special, and we were very cautious to eat there, as days before I had very bad food poisoning resulting in stomach sickness, diarrhea, 3-day fever, and skin rash (I even visited Vieques emergency room)… but there was not many places open on Jan 1, so we decided to give it try given the reviews. And oh my - it tremendously exceeded our expectations. We ordered Coqui salad which was simple, fresh, and healthy. My boyfriend ordered blackened shrimp and I got catch of the day - pan seared tuna. The food was tender and flavorful. After 10 days in Vieques it was one of the best meals we had on the island. And the staff were very friendly. And my stomach seems to be more than ok 😊 highly recommend!!

If you are looking for whitewashed Mexican food this is the place for you. Everything was bland and non authentic. I live in Northern California and I am blessed with excellent authentic Mexican food restaurants everywhere, this is definitely not aauthentic. To begin, the rice was basmati, the mole sauce for the enchiladas was ground up black beans, no cocoa or spices, and the chicken was flavorless. Just to make things worse, our hostess is waiting for us as we walk in and in a heavy German or Nordic accent instructs us to walk in and as we walk, stop at a podium, quickly take a picture of the menus and then hurry to the back of the restaurant to our table. Very precise and militaristic. Finally, dessert options straight from Costco, Reese's Cheesecake! Next time I am in Vieques I will make a point of avoiding this place. Not for me.

This is the first restaurant from San Juan to Vieques with acceptable customer service!!! Our waitress, Katie, was attentive, friendly, and welcoming! She answered all of our questions and was informative. The food was TOP OF THE LINE!! This is the best meal we have had our entire trip. Thank you for the finest meal for the end of our family vacation! We are beyond grateful!!!

A gem of a restaurant, everything was done perfectly, from service to food. The drinks were also fantastic. The menu is very fairly priced as well, which was refreshing to see for such a high quality meal. They also make a variety of their own hot sauces, which are all great! Highly recommended, hope to return in the future.

Located in the downtown area of Vieques, Biekes Bistro is a top choice for those seeking gourmet dining. The restaurant offers a wide array of appetizers including Argentine turnovers, fish nuggets, pork chicharrones, and creamy conch plantain. The main dishes are equally enticing with options like lobster tail, whole red snapper, and churrasco.
We loved the place. During week and on Saturday they have an offer and main dish includes also side dish in final price. The employees were very friendly and attentive. Our waiter gave us also some advises about the island. Really good place to go for a dinner/lunch. It is closed on Sundays. We paid three of us 50usd. The portions are very generous and delicious. Definitely would come back. Thank you!

I got the chicken Mofungo-absolutely the best I have ever had. Wow, it was so good. My husband got the fish tacos, which were delicious too. Solid we stopped for lunch.

This place was pretty good. We got the pork chop, the meat turnover and the meat paella. It was not amazing, but good. The service was good and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the perfect weather.

This was probably my favorite meal in my visit to Vieques. The beef Pastelillos are a necessity for an appetizer along with some of their house made hot sauce. I ordered the fried chicken tacos which were absolutely delicious and my wife ordered the full fried snapper with plantains. The drinks were great the food was great and it was in a convenient location from the ferry . I highly recommend giving it a try.
Sean G — Google review
The food is pretty spectacular and representative of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. There are other options such as hamburgers, but neither my husband nor I had any of that type of food. We first went to Biekes Bistro in January 2024, and ate there several times. My husband ate at BB several times on this visit. I only ate there once this trip (January into February). My husband had the piña colada, which I tasted. It was delicious, and as you can see, variegated in color. I am really not sure what the red component was, maybe just grenadine, but a lot of sweets on the island include guava, so possibly guava. We both ate the yucca fries, which are served with a really delicious dipping sauce. They were freshly made, HOT and crisp. I had the mofongo relleno with shrimp in a garlic sauce, which was outstanding. There is also the option of Creole seasoning (criolla), which I thought would probably be too spicy for me. The garlic sauce was VERY garlicky, which was great for me, but might not be for everyone. The presentation was beautiful! My husband had the pastelillo carne, which is essentially a fried meat pie, which he said was delicious. He also had the paella, which our server said was meant for two. It appeared to be enough for four to me. It was also quite delicious. We had maduros (sweet plantains, fried) and I wish I could have eaten more. As it was I was only able to eat one yucca fry and one maduró due to eating so much mofongo that I had no room left! The service was ok. The dining space and restroom were basic, but it was air conditioned, which is not always a given in Vieques.
Laura L — Google review
Loved the food. Lovely staff, chef is amazing. Only negative note is that they increased all prices since the last menu picture 2 months ago for example medalla costed 3.50 instead of 2.50, and so on.

The food TOP TIER! Lus was our server and she was so kind and helpful. Very close to the ferry to perfect stop before or after. We got seafood paella, grouper coconut curry, steak mofongo, sweet plantains, ceviche, fried cheese with guava and a coconut mojito.

Rancho Choli is a hidden gem with an unassuming storefront and a charming open-air dining area at the back. The menu changes daily, offering fresh and delicious home-style cooking. The restaurant is known for its roast pork, octopus with tostones, and pork with mofongo, all cooked to perfection. The friendly staff and cozy environment add to the overall experience.
Nothing negative to say about this joyful and amazing family owned restaurant. The best food and service experience on the island. Most of the restaurants in Esperanza put the focus on US tourist and their taste in bland food whereas at Rancho Choli the focus is the boricua traditions and amazing culture using fresh ingredients. Loved it!

I’ve eaten a whole fish every day I’ve been in Puerto Rico and this one was by far the best. Everything we order was prepared perfectly absolutely no notes on the food. The atmosphere on the other hand… bring bug spray, we got eaten alive.
Jake D — Google review
One of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. Everything we had was delicious, especially the roasted pork. The flavor and tenderness of the meat was world class, easily giving some very famous BBQ joints a run for their money. The outdoor seating is shaded and situated next to a lovely little garden. The owners are a ton of fun to be around, and very kind. My only regret was not coming with a bigger appetite.
Carter J — Google review
This would be my recommendation for those looking to eat homemade, local fare cooked by locals( actually born and raised in Vieques) and people/families who can respect that. My bf and I had a solid, fresh meal here after a long day at the beach. We ordered rice and beans, Pork chops, and sweet plantain, and I had the passion fruit juice. The beans were SO GOOD and the sweet plantain cooked perfectly. I’d probably get the chicken next time. The juice was deliciously refreshing. The eating space is open, and had bug spray to use (came in handy for mosquitos). We paid about 30 bucks with tip. The chef said she cooks Lechon on Saturday and Sunday- which I would hella go back for based on my experience.
Ana V — Google review
Tucked one narrow block off Esperanza’s malecón, Rancho Choli looks like a humble roadside joint from the front—but walk past the order window and you step into a leafy, open-air patio laced with passion-fruit vines and picnic tables. The setting is casual enough for sandy flip-flops yet feels unmistakably Borincano—roosters crowing, salsa on the speakers, and the smoky perfume of a whole pig turning on the spit. Food • Lechón asado: skin shatters like glass, the meat is glossy and porky—easily the best bite I had on the island. • Mofongo con cerdo: garlicky plantain mash crowned with chopped roast pork and a ladle of jus; ask for a squeeze of their house pique. • Pulpo con tostones: surprisingly tender octopus seared on the plancha, served with twice-fried plantain disks. Portions are generoso; two mains fed our family of three with leftovers for the beach. Prices run $12–$18 per plate—good value on Vieques. Drinks No full bar, but they blend a killer parcha (passion-fruit) mojito and keep Medalla on ice. Non-drinkers should grab the house-made limonada fresca. Service & vibe Ran by a local family who treat you like cousins: the cashier patiently walked us through the rotating menu board, and the owner made the rounds to be sure everyone was happy. Orders arrive in biodegradable trays; buss your own table. Expect island time—our food took about 20 minutes, worth every second. Good to know • Open Tue–Sun, 11:30 a.m.–8 p.m.; closed Monday. • Cash is king (they do take ATH Móvil if the signal cooperates). • Plenty of parking on Calle Almendro, but the road is rough—go slow in a rental. • Come early or call ahead if you want ribs; they sell out by mid-afternoon on weekends. Bottom line Rancho Choli nails the trifecta of Vieques dining: honest Puerto Rican cooking, warm hospitality, and fair prices. If roast pork and mofongo are on your edible bucket list, make this your first lunch stop after the ferry. I’d return in a heartbeat—and next time I’m saving room for the pastelillos everyone was raving about.

Went on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. One of the best meals I’ve had in PR so far. Chicken, tostones, and mamposteo (rice and beans), 10/10 would recommend. This is the go to lunch spot after a beach day.
