Nevis Range Mountain Resort is a fantastic destination for families, offering skiing, biking, tree-climbing courses, and mountain gondola rides. The bike school comes highly recommended for kids, with Saturday morning sessions being a highlight for many young riders. The resort provides affordable options for both skiing and mountain biking, featuring graded trails and gondola uplifts. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views during the smooth 15-minute cable car ride to the top of the mountain.
Visited on 15/12 to meet Santa. This was our first time here and we loved it. The detail they had put into all the activities for the kids was fantastic and the Santa experience was just magical. Unfortunately due to the weather we were unable to ride the gondola. Big car park but I imagine it fills up pretty quickly during peak times. Will definitely be back on a day with better weather for non Santa related fun.

Most of routes we rode are decent quality. Limited availability for bikes on the gondola, so check before you go. Great service in the café/bar. Loads of parking only £5 per day, or £15 overnight. Biggest gripe is the poor quality of trail maps and terrible signposting on/off trails, especially where the logging has trashed tracks/paths. Had an argument with a very racist Scotsman who insisted that it was a free country; he had a right to roam wherever he wanted and as he lived locally, we should go home. Fortunately, as he was walking on a slower, uphill section of route (Adder Climb), no one was hurt, but feel unless routes are clearer, serious injury could occur.

Came for a day out with the family. Views from the top are spectacular you can see for miles on a good day. Great day out for all the family. Various walks to do and the cafe to visit for snacks. We enjoyed our picnic before heading up on the gondola.
Claire — Google review
Simply one of the best mountainbiking locations in the UK. Outstanding trails await, and for the visitor aside from easy accessible parking there's a recently redesigned visitor centre with excellent retailers and a bike shop where you can hire bikes also of course. There are trails to suit all skill levels and plan to spend most of a day here as it's a whole day kind of place. Superb cafe on site also. For any bikers this is an essential place to experience.
Dr S — Google review
Cafe near parking at first glance looked great, aesthetic decor etc - but couldn’t believe we were given paper plates and cups. They responded to a similar review saying that it was due to efficiency during busy periods - there was only 3 other tables being occupied during my visit. I don’t know any other cafe that does this during their busy periods… It makes a huge difference having proper crockery for a sit-down cafe meal - both for the experience and, of course, for the environment. All the more important when you’re paying sit-down meal prices. Unfortunately the food didn’t make up for it either. The coffee was burnt and bitter so I couldn’t finish. I ordered one of the sandwiches. The bread was stale and the ham had gone hard - clearly having sat out too long. I would have ordered the hot food, it looked nice, but it was just quite expensive for the portion sizes - and didn’t like the idea of eating a liquidy stew on a paper plate. As I mentioned, the decor is nice, with clean tables and nice staff, so it was just a bit disappointing.
Alex — Google review
Really beautiful place to visit. Dog friendly too. Family ticket for gondolas were £65 and ride up and down as much as you like. The two walks to the viewpoints offer amazing views. Knocked off one star for the price of food and drink, totally understand it’s a tourist attraction etc but £2.35 for a can is very steep! Very friendly and helpful staff, cafe at the top has amazing views.
Saffron G — Google review
I bought tickets online, saving the need to queue (check online for days that it is open). Temperature was taken before boarding the gondola (although I wasn't convinced it was accurate as it was uncharacteristically quite low). The gondola was nice and slow moving when I got on, which saved me panicking. We didn't share with anyone else, so it felt covid safe. The ride up was incredible! Breakfast in a box was very hearty, but you could only sit outside in the freezing cold to eat it! It gave us an opportunity to enjoy the views. We headed right for a lovely walk which was fairly easy. I was grateful I had sturdy walking boots on, because it is gravelly/rocky. The view at the top is tremendous! The flora and fauna is brilliant! Loved it!
Maria D — Google review
Fantastic place , the gondola made our trip! Well worth a visit. Stunning Views from the top. My partner is a MTB and cant wait to return and do the trails!! Wish the tree adventure was open. Only downside the cafe at the bottom was well overpriced and Food quality was not the best , got a hot dog and went straight in the bin. Will definitely be back soon.

During my recent adventure in Fort William, I discovered a delightful gem known as The Highland Soap Company Visitor Centre & Larder Cafe. This charming spot quickly became a favorite during my stay, where I indulged in delicious coffee and cake to kick off my trip. The cafe also offered an impressive lunch menu and hosted a 'Taste of Fort William' event that showcased the best of local flavors with seasonal ingredients.
We came here specifically for the soap company after visiting Scotland 1,5 years ago. Always an amazing assortment of bath products in a variety of scents. We decided to stay for lunch this time. Let me tell you, the smashed avocado toast is delicious. A wonderful balance of all the ingredients. My friend and I were very happy to have lunch here. The coffee is also great :)

Stopped in at the cafe for some lunch before a little shopping in the shop. The menu was limited, and almost everything included dairy. However the handy allergen guide on each item menu made it much easier to pick out what i could have. I wish more places done such a simple key! The cajun chicken salad is probably the best ive tasted. The dressing was delicious, and the portion was generous. Staff were lovely, service was quick. The shop was well stocked with a full variety of scents and different products. A large sink area near the cafe allows u to try out all the scents of handsoap before you buy. The gift shop is stocked with ceramics, toys, unique gifts and other items. Would definitely come here again.

The café at the Highland Soap Company is an absolute gem. It’s a lovely place with a warm and welcoming atmosphere – perfect for enjoying coffee, breakfast, or lunch. The shop itself is a pleasure to browse through, beautifully laid out with plenty of charm. And the views from the terrace are simply spectacular, making the whole experience even more special

This very busy cafe attached to a huge retail outlet offering soaps of all kinds, homewares and edible gifts has lovely food choices. The lentil soup was delicious. The service set up is cumbersome which could do with more staff. Staff were friendly, atmosphere nice.

Absolute gem of a place! We travel a lot in our camper frequently stopping for coffee and cake …hands down this was one of the best! £3 cappuccino and £3 for the most delicious lemon drizzle cake (I am fussy with my LD) lovely experience.

Little gem of Highlands and Fort William. Wonderful cafe with delicious food. Soap shop has got amazing skin care products made in Scotland, also other souvenirs and alcohol authentic to the area.

Located in the heart of Fort William, Lochaber Leisure Centre is a great spot to unwind and stay active. The center features a main pool with various sessions for all ages, as well as a smaller hydrotherapy pool set at a relaxing temperature. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the gym, steam room, and sauna facilities. The friendly staff are always on hand to assist and ensure a pleasant experience for all guests.
I had a fabulous morning spent here on the 21st February 2024 The 3 members of staff I met for the first time were amazing As I’m not in aviemore often as I do private chef services here every now and then , for the first time in years I had this idea of joining this center before dig into my work The entrance, changing rooms , shower, steam room and sauna and swimming pool were all spotless Personnel very respectful The blond young lady who received me was very helpful Overall they will see me again Thank you for making my day excellent
Giuseppe C — Google review
I can only comment on the gym as I haven’t used the other facilities. Very well equipped, especially for the location. 5 racks and plenty of sets of dumbbells so you’re never waiting around to start a set. Not the best machines and not much variety, but this is much better than most commercial gyms that have way too many machines and a tiny free weight area.
Joel S — Google review
Mixed changing facilities. Not following updated equality law to provide single sex changing room. Disappointing as pool etc is good.
Ruth M — Google review
the majority of the staff were kind, helpful, and made me feel really welcome. The only awkward part was when I arrived a few minutes early (at 8:54) and the door was already open, so I stepped inside. I politely asked if I could just wait quietly inside until opening, but an older woman with a dark bob told me I had to leave. She then locked the door behind me, which felt a little harsh—especially since it was raining. The interaction was uncomfortable, and when I came back in a few minutes later, she acted like nothing had happened. It really ruined my experience. All the other staff were absolutely lovely. Only leaving the one star due to how awkward the interaction was.
Maria F — Google review
Great that we can use our membership from another county. However the cleanliness of the changing rooms left something to be desired. The poolside was ok though. The sauna was only open once but was very nice. I just wouldn’t come back due to the changing rooms. They could do with a bit more cleaning. Just the floor in particular. The staff were very friendly though which was nice.
Bex F — Google review
It's a warm pool and very clean. Was shocked at the price for two adults and two children just shy of £30. Alot more than our local public pool.doesnt encourage public to come often. The pool was quiet and felt we had eyes on us all the time as life guards don't have much to do
Michael W — Google review
Facilities are quite good but the whole idea of needing an induction before using the gym when staff aren’t always available is awful. They also charge extra per person for the gym induction if you come with a visitor pass (which is ridiculous). Staff didn’t seem to know much about what was going on either. If you come here as a traveller, prepare to have your time wasted.

Clean. Water not too warm so others might find it cold too soon. No pool for children. Lots of parking available.

Nestled at the base of the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis Inn is a popular spot for hikers and travelers. The casual stone-and-beam inn offers a cozy atmosphere with real ales, pub food, and live music. Visitors often stop by for a drink on their way down from Ben Nevis and end up staying for a hearty meal. The daytime menu is available until 5pm, followed by an evening menu until 9pm.
Restaurant Specific Review We booked as a family for Father's Day. Right from the outset, all of the staff were helpful and friendly, unlocking the double door even before I got to it to allow me to get in with my wheelchair. The food is excellent. The Cullen Skink was described as the best they've ever tasted, and my venison burger was just perfect. All the food was delicious, with large portions all round. Maybe slightly on the pricey side (£20-£30 per head), but well worth it considering the rather remote location. It's in a gorgeous location with stunning views and right on the Ben Nevis path, allowing for pre- and post-meal wanders assuming you're suitably equipped. Wheelchair access is great, with a perfectly inclined ramp (easily doable without assistance). Although the car park is gravelled, you can be dropped off right at the ramp. Once inside, wheelchair manoeuvrability is a bit restricted with only a couple of tables you can easily get to, so you definitely need to reserve in advance and specifically mention your accessibility requirements. Overall, this is a fantastic restaurant (not a pub!) in a wonderful location. It was my first visit since becoming a wheelchair user, and I will definitely be back. Thoroughly recommended.

The best restaurant we ate at on our trip to Scotland. We arrived late, after 2 p.m., but the entire menu was available. There were many gluten-free options, and all the dishes we ordered were delicious, especially the haddock soup and the chicken with haggis. The waitress was very attentive

I can't comment on the rooms but I can sure comment on dinner. The atmosphere was fun and the food delicious! But the service was just fabulous! We just spent 25 days in Scotland eating out all over Scotland and the waitress we had at the Ben Nevis Inn was by far and away the best! And we had some excellent service! If you in Fort William find this place for dinner and go!

Location….. stunning, epic views. Tiny road to get too, but worth it. Hikers base to get to top of mount here. So parking is a bit tight along the road. The building is cute, looks like some reconditioning is going on currently , (10/25) Inside is a wonderful old hall, small bar, and bunch of tables. The food was wonderful, I chose chicken and haggis, it was great. The gravey was wonderful , and loved it all, cleaned the plate. Another in our party got the exact plate, and cleaned his as well. My wife got cajon chicken, bit spicey for me , but delicious nonetheless. We were part of a group 17 in all, not a single person left hungry or disappointed. And in total the bill, $375 for everyone!! I think we left $50 for our portion, with a tip. Well worth it.

This is actually a review for the Ben Nevis pub/restaurant. Fantastic food and incredibly friendly service in a 200-year-old converted barn. The Cullen Skink may be the best soup we've ever tasted! Great spot for lunch, dinner, or a casual pint after a long (or short) hike. Highly recommended!!
David L — Google review
This was the highlight of our trip! The food is some of the best I have ever had - The Cullen Skink is insane. We went on a Thursday evening and got a lovely surprise to find out they have a folk band that play there from 9pm. The atmosphere of the place was fantastic throughout our visit and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. I can’t wait to go back again!
Sarah F — Google review
Nice enough pub, lovely staff and decent beers. Nothing amazing but certainly not bad either, wouldn't go out of my way to go back for a drink but definitely worth stopping in if you're passing, especially if you've just finished the walk back from Ben Nevis. *Not dog friendly, be aware if you have your dog with you you'll have to sit outside

Warm Service & Fantastic Fresh Food We came without a reservation and were welcomed with genuine warmth. The waitresses were incredibly friendly and attentive, and they found us a great table with perfect service throughout the evening. The food was absolutely fantastic – fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every dish was a delight. I highly recommend the venison burger, delicious!! A truly memorable dining experience. Unfortunately we discovered it only on our last evening in the area. Otherwise, we would have come more than once. We’ll definitely be back!

A Gem off the High Street and very friendly staff. We had Shetland Isles mussels as starter, chicken chorizo risotto and 12oz steak as main course. The mussels were so big, juicy and tasty. It’i highly recommended!! The steak was cooked to requirement aund very tasty. Chicken chorizo risotto might be a bit blend in comparison to the steak and mussels. We also recommend the desserts!!

It was a great find in Fort William! We had a very good dinner in this cozy restaurant. The food was perfect to my taste! I was looking for some Angus, and I took both Ribeye and fillet perfectly cooked. Thanks to the staff for the support and kindness. Definitely, I will try to get back again.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident quite late in the evening after travelling all day and what a happy accident! The staff were friendly, accommodating and seated us quickly we didnt have a long wait for food even though it was cooked to order. The pork belly and steak were divine! Very very good food a little gem in Fort William.

The seared scallops with black pudding are excellent. The grilled rack of ribs is generously-portioned (seemed enough to feed a small family!) and very tasty, although the meat can get dry. The sauce is perfect though, and the accompanying corn on cob, coleslaw and chips are delicious. Do also get the chocolate tart with vanilla ice-cream to finish off your meal - this one is definitely worth an order. Service is attentive, but be prepared to wait for your food. Reservations are essential.

Wow, is all we can say. I'd recommend this restaurant! They let us in at the last minute last night (we just walked in), but they never rushed us one moment. The food was to die for. Best food we've had. Definitely be making a return visit before we head home. Complements to the chef and all the team. Thank you!

Visited two nights in a row. Excellent food. Best risotto we ever had. Burger, ribs and steak also exceptional. Service brilliant too. Only point to notice is that part of the dining room is used as storage which makes the first impression a bit unwelcoming. Which is not the case at all!

Glen Nevis Restaurant offers a taste of Scottish cuisine using locally sourced ingredients in a modern, pine-panelled setting. It's an ideal choice for visitors exploring Ben Nevis and the surrounding valley, located just a short drive from Fort William. The restaurant has garnered praise for its varied evening menu featuring burgers, pies, and traditional Scottish dishes. Visitors can also expect friendly staff and excellent service.
Up here for work at the SYHA around 5 minutes away. Lovely food had the haddock and the Ben Nevis lager was great. Friendly staff as they asked me what I was up Scotland for. Sat outside as it was warm and most people chatted as I was on my own.

Visited after a walk up and over Cow Hill on a very hot day. This was a lovely oasis of calm, with cold local lager and great food. I had the baked potato with haggis in whiskey sauce, delicious! We had a wonderful lunch experience at Glen Nevis Restaurant. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We tried both the Nevis Burger and the Chargrilled Chicken B.L.T. Burger — both were absolutely delicious! The beef patty was juicy and well-seasoned, and the chicken burger had a perfect balance of fresh lettuce, and a tasty chutney. What made our visit even better was the friendly and welcoming staff. Everyone we interacted with was cheerful, helpful, and provided excellent service with a smile. You could tell they genuinely cared about the guest experience. Highly recommend stopping by for a relaxed lunch with a great view and even better service. Definitely a highlight of our time in the area!

Had food and drink here (in the bar, not restaurant) twice when we stayed at the campsite. First night was a busy Friday night and the food was genuinely really good, way better than we expected 2nd night on the Saturday we ate a bit earlier just before 5 and the quality was definitely not the same at all, went from an 8/9 out of 10 down to a really standard 5/10, not sure if because of different cooks or what but massively different experience. Either way the beer was great, the service was fantastic and the pub itself is great. Would still roll the dice and eat here again if I was up here, worth a try cos if you get the good stuff it's really good Definitely stop here for food and drink 👍🍻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Highland Cinema is a state-of-the-art independent boutique cinema and cafe bar located in Fort William, Scotland. The cinema boasts two theatres of different sizes, showcasing a mix of Hollywood blockbusters and independent titles. The cozy cafe bar offers a wide range of delicious food options, including gourmet pizza, salads, charcuterie, and Scottish-origin drinks such as beer, gin, and whisky. The venue's design reflects a traditional bothy with local stone construction and a red corrugated roof.
This was my first visit to any cinema since I've been in a wheelchair and I was not a little bit apprehensive. Fortunately, my fears were unfounded as it's fully accessible (with a couple of caveats). Staff were immediately friendly and helpful and, I'm sure, would have been on hand if needed. Pricing is pretty much standard for cinemas these days, so can't really complain. They accept the CEA card. Food-wise, they do their utmost to source locally, which is good. We had a coffee in the café after our cinema visit and I'll definitely be checking out Glen Lyon coffee again. The cakes we had were also delicious. Incidentally, you get a 10% discount on food and drink with your cinema ticket. This was definitely a positive experience and one which made me slightly regret not pushing myself to go sooner. I'll definitely be more inclined to go in future.

Lovely small theater with two screens. The ticket line is also the concessions line, so plan ahead if you are running late? Projection and sound quality was very good and the seats are comfy recliners (although no footrest in ours). Assigned seating and a nice pub out front. Very much a part of the town.

It started off fine the person who seated us was friendly and cleared a table for us so we didn’t have to share a bench. From there on it felt like the staff didn’t want to know, they all hid behind the bar or in the kitchen and even if you made direct eye contact they didn’t come over to you. Considering less than a quarter of the tables were full, I would have expected better from the 3-4 serving staff there. After my main I sat for over 20 minutes trying to make eye contact to order dessert and only when someone waved their arm around to get attention did anyone emerge from behind the counters. When I went to pay I used cash and with the look the sever gave me, you’d have thought I just killed their pet. All I can say for the place is that the food is good, even if they have reduced the portion size of the nachos.

Boots is a well-known pharmacy chain with a wide range of products, including their own brand and third-party items. The consistent quality and service across different locations make it reliable for customers nationwide. Customers have praised Boots in Fort William for its exceptional customer service, going above and beyond to help with emergency prescriptions and specific medication needs. While some suggest the need for more weekend staff, others appreciate the friendly and helpful attitude of the pharmacy staff.
Boots in Fort William were amazing and went way above and beyond to help me. My hubby forgot to lift my medication box when we left home. Fort William Boots managed to give my everything apart from 2 of my medications. Thankyou so much to the pharmacy staff.

Very unfriendly. The female Worker was not interested in my pain (toe) and said she was no recommendation... why are you working in a pharmacy??
Katie H — Google review
Absolutely atrocious service recently. Takes a week to process a prescription (to be fair this is partly due to practice as well) I have to travel 20 miles to collect prescription in a lunch hour during work, only to find 'closed for lunch' not good, told to wait, but my boss isn't as patient and I now have a black mark on my record. Put on ur Web page at the very least!!!

I'm currently on holiday and had to ring out-of-hours for an emergency prescription. The Boots staff were friendly, efficient and had my prescription ready in around 10 minutes despite being quite busy.
Crimson C — Google review
The Boots in Fort William can't be far away from closing, it's restricted hours in the morning and afternoon only being open for a few hours. Basically go elsewhere for your prescription Lloyd's in the High Street is much better

Fantastic customer service moved up here and needed emergency supply of medicine for my boyfriend twice and my needs were met with a very friendly attitude. Such a relief when people know how to do their job thank you.

With Boots you get what it says on the tin. A good pharmacy with a wide range of products from their own brand to a wide range of third party products. Most Boots are similar which is great no matter where you are in the country from London to Fort William in Scotland

The pharmacy staff are absolutely amazing. Being here on holiday and needing specific medicines they went out of their way to help me I can't praise them enough for everything they did.

Lovely lady behind the counter who didn't mind our excitable border collie barking outside! I popped in for some of the eye catching socks but it was a well supplied little art store too

Lovely local fine art and paintings. A wide range of art supplies as well.

Visited this shop as it seemed to have a lot of unique art and gifts. Very expensive and the gentleman behind the Counter didn't even acknowledge us when we entered. Spent the whole time just staring so we thought better and exited. If you're wanting business I suggest you work on basic manners and customer service skills.

Jacobite Steam Train

3.4
(661)
Heritage railroad
Embark on a magical journey aboard the Jacobite Steam Train, famously known as the Hogwarts Express from Harry Potter. This 84-mile route from Fort William to Mallaig offers breathtaking views of the Glenfinnan Viaduct and serene lochs along the West Coast. The train ride is a prime opportunity for wildlife spotting, culminating in a stop at the charming fishing village of Mallaig.
After reading several negative reviews, about the trip I was concerned about taking the family on the train. However, we had a wonderful time last week. We were lucky to have the steam train, as we were told they had not been able to run it because of high fire danger in the highlands. Yes, the carriages are old, but they were clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and informative. The windows were clean, but understand that steam trains can deposit soot, especially when going through tunnels. I would recommend packing food for the journey and maybe buying snacks off the trolley. I would agree that the tickets are pricey, but seeing the enjoyment on the faces of my family made it worthwhile.

What I loved: getting to feel like I’m on the Hogwarts express, ordering for the trolley, and having that feeling of excitement. Staff was great though! What could be better: I know it’s an old train and that’s part of the charm, but given ticket prices, surely they can invest some into making it less moldy smelling, feeling more clean, working toilets and clean windows. I deleted about 70% of the photos taken for how bad they just came out. I had to really edit the ones I took to look decent. Still giving it 4 stars because I’m a huge HP fan and that still trumped the cons

We recently took the 84 mile round trip on the Jacobite Steam Train from Fort William to Mallaig and back, and past spectacular scenery and landmarks such as a view of Ben Nevis, Glenfinnan Viaduct (which we had to drive to later to get pics and video of the second Jacobite Steam Train crossing in the evening), Jacobite Monument, Inverailort House, Loch Eilt (with the real life island of Eilean na Moine whiched served as the filming location for Dumbledore's burial site in the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film), The Small Isles and the Beaches of Morar. (I noticed prior to our trip, several reviewers were quite upset that when they had taken the train, as a diesel locomotive was used instead of the steam engine, and I asked about that and learned the diesel locomotive had to be used when the area hadn't received rain and they were afraid the steam engine would start fires.) Cold drinks, snacks, Harry Potter merchandise are available for purchase during the train ride. Tickets should be purchased months in advance. We enjoyed ourselves, however, If I had to do it over, I think I wouldn't had rode the train, and had just went directly to the Glenfinnan Viaduct and taken our photos and videos of the steam engine crossing the viaduct.

We were really looking forward to this train experience — the photos, the scenery, and the train itself. However, all tickets were sold out 3–6 months in advance, which was quite surprising. The website mentioned that limited tickets would be available on the day if you arrived early to queue, so we booked two nights in a hotel just for this. Unfortunately, it turned out rather disappointing once we actually got on the train. We arrived very early in the morning, only to be told the morning train was fully booked. We managed to get tickets for the afternoon one after waiting many hours at the station. In the end, just watching the trains depart and taking photos was probably the highlight. The ride itself felt like nothing more than a regular train journey — definitely not worth the something like £250 we paid.

We arrived 10:10 and had to hustle to get in the perfect hillside location due to full parking … so get there early!! Also know which side you should be on based on the time of day, because the best side will be awesome. Wear muck boots and be prepared for a bit of a hike up. Worth the journey, easy for Harry Potter fans.
Tara R — Google review
A lot of 50/50 reviews on here but we had an amazing experience. We were able to ride the steam train, complimentary coffee and tea and we sat first class which is much nicer than the economy seats. Overall great experience, especially for two Harry Potter fans. Smooth ride too.

Absolutely brill. Was on train two years ago. A couple next to us never said much, I let them take photos out windows before me as there was a guy hogging the window and not letting anyone else get a chance. Think they were from another country. When leaving the train. The woman gave me an origami bird. Which I still have. I keep it in my mobile phone case for luck. Much appreciated. Had a great day out. Got to book in advance.
Katie G — Google review
Staff were informative and pleasant. The train itself was Steam hauled made up of MK1 and MK2 carriages. I think it's important to note some reviewers are clearly not up to speed with what's modern and what's not when it comes to the UK railway. The carriages are a little tatty and weathered but that's to be expected for coaches made in the 1950's and 1960's which have been overhauled X amount of times throughout their life cycle. The journey itself was pleasant and we enjoyed the trip behind the steamer. Several reviews complaining about not being able to lean out of windows to take photos.. it's not an amusement ride, some common sense and health and safety needs to be upheld. Unfortunately idiots in the past (mostly on other rail tours) along with poor vegitation maintenance by network rail have spoiled this part of the enjoyment you may have had 10 years ago. Improvements Not once was we offered the trolley service for refreshments apart from the free complementary 'cold' hot drink and selling souvenirs. We paid the extra to travel in the highest fair possible, private table for 2 in first class. Unfortunately there was nothing first class about the service and if you are looking to book you will be treated exactly the same (bar the complementary cold 'hot' drink) in standard class. It's definitely not worth the extra cash. Lots of people get on this tour as a special occasion and pay an awful amount of money for something which is not upto first class standards. Why are the stewards not coming around selling bottles of champagne, wine or other alcohol beverages. Why is there not a complimentary glass of fizz when you board for first class. Why are the stewards in first class dressed the same as standard? West coast railways could certainly do alot more on board to make it that special experience you've paid for. All of this side we would recommend but have the correct explanations and don't pay for first class.
