Capercaillie Restaurant and Bar is a lovely rustic inn located in Killin, offering a menu of classic and Indian comfort foods along with a full bar and scenic views. The spacious restaurant is close to the Falls of Dochart, serving a great selection of dishes including pizzas, burgers, and hearty Scottish breakfasts. With friendly staff and dog-friendly facilities, it's an ideal spot for visitors exploring the area or looking for a relaxed dining experience.
This has been rebranded to the River Inn when we visited. Staff were super friendly, helpful and the restaurant had very much a family vibe. The inside has a cabin feel to it; we never visited for food - only drinks - however the plates of food we saw looked plentiful and would definitely come back for more food and drinks again

First time trying here heard they only took over a few months ago but OMG the food was AMAZING, OUT OF THIS WORLD so fresh and tasty, honestly THE best food weve had in a long time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now under new management. Turned up with our 3 well behaved Cavvies to be told strictly a 2 small dog or 1 large dog per table. Found a more welcoming venue for lunch.

Lovely spacious restaurant in Killin close to Falls of Dochart. Great menu Pizzas, Burgers, good selection of classic mains dishes. A monster Scottish breakfast served mornings only and the best morning rolls ever with sausage, bacon, egg black pudding with doublers and treblers available at a small extra cost. Staff were lovely, very friendly. We had delicious Hunters chicken today with bacon, cheese french fries, coleslaw and salad for £13.95. A grand, hearty portion. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Arrived at the Falls of Dochart well after 10am and was going for a coffee at the falls of dochart inn but found it all locked up and what a godsend that was because we had to find another coffee shop and what a wonderful one we found. The Capercaillie Restaurant and Bar is a fabulous establishment warm and cosy with a good well priced menu, frendly staff and a view of the river. So if you want a warm welcome and frendly, open when you want want it open not when the owners think they will open establishment head to the Capercaillie Restaurant and Bar

Friendly pub restaurant in Killin next to the River Dochart, which you can see from the restaurant. Dog friendly. An outside area above the river, which would be nice on a sunny day. More pub food oriented than coffee and cake. No cake when we visited, but nice coffee. Great location for visiting the rightly famous Falls of Dochart, which can be truly spectacular in speight and great any time of year. Friendly, unfussy service.
Alan B — Google review
Went for food yesterday and it was disgusting, pulled pork looked like it was made weeks ago and left out, hunters chicken was watery and bbq sauce lumpy, chips were solid and the atmosphere was shocking with locals and staff slagging off a new buffet and pizza place the whole time then talking inappropriately about people from the village. Will not be back but will definitely be trying a buffet place and pizza place we didn't know about next time 🙂

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. Previous reviews are for the old bar/restaurant. This is now a family run business with fantastic greek menu as well as pasta dishes and burgers. Definitely recommended for fresh food and good value.

Falls of Dochart

Located in the charming town of Killin at the north end of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Falls of Dochart offers a picturesque sight with its tumbling waters that can be admired from a stone bridge or by venturing onto the rocks. The falls are particularly stunning after rainfall.
The Falls of Dochart are an absolutely stunning place of immense natural beauty, located in the charming village of Killin, at the western end of Loch Tay in Scotland. The experience of visiting this spot is truly captivating, with the powerful cascade of the River Dochart creating a thunderous spectacle that highlights the raw force of nature. Venturing out onto the ancient rocks that form the riverbed and the falls is a breathtaking experience. It gives you a profound sense of the timelessness and beauty of nature. The rocks are a photographer's dream, providing countless opportunities for capturing the perfect shot of the rushing rapids and the swirling water. The scene is particularly dramatic after heavy rainfall when the river swells and the sound of the water is at its most powerful. It's a place that appeals to all ages. My own family and friends loved and enjoyed every moment. My 5-year-old son, full of enthusiastic wonder, was running and climbing all over the rocks, shouting "this place is so cool!" and "wow, amazing!" It was a joy to witness his excitement and sense of adventure. The village of Killin, where the falls are located, has a handful of restaurants and delightful cake cafes, providing just the right amount of amenities without feeling overly commercialized. The Falls of Dochart Smokehouse, in particular, is a great find, offering a selection of very tasty local products, including delicious cheese and salmon. The Falls of Dochart are a must-see for anyone in the area, a truly invigorating experience that connects you with the power and beauty of the Scottish landscape.
Ricky G — Google review
Beautiful waterfall! The river was racing and it was raining when we were there, not allowing us to down to the rocks but we were still able to get great pictures and enjoy the town for a quick minute.
Christi C — Google review
The Falls of Dochart are absolutely breathtaking and well worth a visit. Right in the heart of Killin, the falls are a powerful and beautiful sight, especially after rainfall when the water is rushing over the rocks with real force. It is one of those places that instantly makes you pause and take it all in. There are plenty of spots to stop and admire the view, whether from the bridge or the riverbank. The sound of the water, the dramatic scenery and the surrounding mountains all come together to create a really peaceful and atmospheric setting. There is a lovely charm to the village too, with small cafes and local shops nearby that make it easy to spend a bit more time exploring. It is a must see if you are travelling through the area or staying nearby. A stunning natural landmark that leaves a lasting impression.
BellHH S — Google review
It a nice but strong waterfall. The water flow is strong during rainy days. It’s on the side of the road when you approach the town of Killin. It is just before the single carriageway bridge. There is no designated parking. You can park on the side of the road where there are no double yellow lines. There is a space for 2-3 cars parking just before the bridge.
Nebu M — Google review
Lovely wee village. Proper tourist spot. Nice park for young kids. Typical village shops. Few places of historical interest. Public toilets available near the watermill. Plenty parking spaces. Beautiful river.
Brian M — Google review
This is my favourite waterfall in Scotland it’s magnificent if you sit there and watch it with the water and everything you will be sitting for hours without getting tired of the views and the mood and the vibe I highly recommend it it’s amazing

Shutters Restaurant is a lovely dog-friendly spot in Killin, perfect for a quick stop with your furry friend. The staff are known to be very welcoming to dogs and their owners, providing water bowls and complimentary treats for the four-legged visitors. Visitors have praised the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the great value for money. With free parking nearby, it's an ideal place to enjoy a delicious meal or snack while exploring the village of Killin.
Such a lovely place, a must when stopping in Killin! The baked goods and the coffee are delicious. It’s spacious inside and very cosy! (PS : This place is now called Kula Coffee Shop)
Gabriella C — Google review
Not called Shutters anymore but now called „Kula Coffee Shop“. Classic touristic scam spot, try to avoid it. Service was not nice rather rude and didn’t care about us despite it was not full. The food is awful 🙈 See the attached image of a „Pastrami, Emental and Gerkins“ Sandwich served on the whitest never touched a heat toast I‘ve seen so far. Only god knows which kind of pieces this meat was on this „sandwich“ as well. Yeah likely not coming back again but the restaurant is quite calm.

This was one of the few places open on a Bank Holiday. We were after some hot food of proper main meal proportions. They said they did do hot food. This was also told to some German customers. By hot food it was more snack/small meal offerings of soup, panini & baked potato. Outside pergola with several picnic style benches plus an inside seating area. Orders came quickly. Baked potatoe was tepid. I’d requested the cheese on first so it would melt then the tuna mayo. The cheese didn’t even get warm never mind melt. He potato was extremely dry & had no butter. It came with a small side salad & a few crisps. Partner had small soup which was tomato & chorizo. Could barely get a hint of paprika and what little chorizo was in it must have been blended in. Again, would not describe this as hot. The panini was ok. Just okay. Asked for pastrami & cheese. Most places give pastrami strips but this seemed like a money saving ‘hack’ where it was a sprinkling of crumbled up bits for a garnish. A black coffee. A can of cola was £3.50!! We had been tempted by the array of good looking cakes by the till so got a slice of Biscoff cake to take away. Had it an hour later but like the potato, it was bone dry & again like the potato, more than half was binned. All of this came to £33 which even coming from a big tourist city, we felt was very expensive. The young waitresses were nice enough but I did hear them talking unfavourably about customers wanting hot food & not thinking a panini is that. The place was clean, allows dogs but I can’t recommend it for the price, quality or variety of food.
Rose T — Google review
Now seems to trade as Kula, the cakes were very pleasant but the younger members of staff do not seem to understand the concept of table service, we both had coffee and a piece of cake and when paying bill was asked if everything was satisfactory, I did make the comment that a napkin would have been nice I was pointed to a stack of them next to the cutlery tray with the comment that they only brought a napkin when food was being served (guess Victoria sponge is not food). Finally given what sounded like a sarcastic "have a nice" as we left
Steve T — Google review
This is a fantastic, family-friendly restaurant in Pitlochry. The food is delicious and the service is great too. Coffee and cake so good we went back the next day for breakfast. Has a stylish, traditional feel and reasonably priced. Girls are super friendly
Aleksandra R — Google review
Managed to order and get coffees, hot chocolate and soft drinks just before they shut at 4 on Saturday and they had no issue with us being outside at one of the tables for half an hour after 4 even though they shut up at 4. Drinks were good, reasonably priced and the staff were friendly and super helpful.
Jim M — Google review
I've visited here a few times stopping off on a bike run for a coffee and a sandwich. This time there were four of us on two bikes. We managed to squeeze into some space in front of the premises which is always our preferred option. We all ordered sandwiches which come with a small side salad and some crisps. The sandwiches were good, but I'd have to be honest and say a little on the expensive side, your not paying supermarket meal deal prices here. Which is fair enough, we were sitting outside in glorious sunshine, watching the world go by. Had it been a typical Scottish summers day and we were looking for sustenance, this probably wouldn't have been getting top marks. A couple of other reviews have mentioned the service. I've been here a number of times and never had any issues with the girls serving. What I have seen is that they are really busy, they never stop, but they, as far as I'm concerned do a great job under pressure. Yea, it may take a couple of minutes, for them to get back to your table as their trying to sort out three other tables, but they get there. Relax and enjoy the time with your companions. That said, places which are less expensive, tend to be able to trade all year round, places like Kula need to make their money for the whole year in a smaller, and unpredictable time frame, so the option you are faced with is, do you pay what seems expensive prices and moan about it, or do you realise that, your visiting a lovely part of the world, helping a local business survive into the following year. I like to think I take the later view of it. Will I be back? Probably, and I'll look at it as a treat, not a mandatory stop.
The N — Google review
Now called KULA Cafe. Stopped for lunch. Went inside and was informed by the counter assistant that it was table service only and to take a seat outside and they would come and take the order. Over the next 20 minutes three separate individuals with dogs came in and the waitress appeared and clapped the dog and took their order. This was repeated 3 times and still we sat there. The waitress even brought water to the first dog but just ignored us. During this time a table with 6 German tourists who were there before us got up and left as they had not had their order taken. We waited 20 minutes and I went in to the cafe and informed the same counter assistant we had been waiting 20 minutes for our order to be taken and she actually laughed at me and said sarcastically, oh sorry. Ridiculous non service. NEVER again.

They cater to both individuals and groups with online booking available. Additionally, they provide exhilarating experiences like river sledging and land and water-based treasure hunts. For those seeking adventure, the center also offers mountain bike and canoe rentals with friendly staff ready to assist.
Was in the area for 2 nights and looking to hire out bikes and then kayaks on the nearby Loch the next day. Staff were very friendly and happy share their knowledge on local routes for the bikes which was great fun. Not being an expert in bikes I think they were good quality. We had them out on well kept paths, rocky terrain and down hill rocky paths. All great fun. Kayaks seemed good quality aswell staff had them down at the local river for us to hop on and paddle down towards the Loch. They shared their knowledge of high sandbanks which was great help and we manage to steer clear of getting stuck anywhere. Very happy with the service and friendly staff.

5 star service! Called in for rain pants at a reasonable price. I was shown pairs at "reasonable" and "high quality" prices. Not pushed at all in my choice. Ended up buying a much needed pair off walking boots too for Mrs. Very carefully measured and advised in the process. Full marks and a pleasure to call in.

Bikes and kayaks, all the things you could need.. very well equipped, especially for a relatively remote place. Great staff!. Beautiful location to hire a bike. Old disused railway lines nearby to ride on, which lead to the loch edge. An amazing place!..

Fabulous place to hire kayaks from. Very friendly service everything provided. Don't forget your bum will get wet and if you want to go ashore wear footwear you don't mind getting wet. Loch Tay is beautiful and well worth a paddle round.

My recent visit to the Killin Outdoor Centre was a great experience. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and very helpful, offering great service even when busy. They have a really good selection of outdoor clothing and equipment for sale. What's more, the prices are very fair and competitive for a touristy area. It’s a fantastic place to get kitted out for and go on an adventure in the area. We rented a bike and kayaks for a family holiday while staying in a local lodge.

Castle
Located near Killin, Scotland, Finlarig Castle is a 17th-century fortress with a grim history. Originally built in the 11th century and later reconstructed by Sir Duncan Campbell, it bears the coat of arms of James and Queen Anne. The area also features a mausoleum and graves marking the resting place of the Marquis and Marchioness of Breadalbane.
Finlarig castle is mostly a beautiful romantic ruin.. until you find out how many people were killed there 😳 local say the castle is haunted.. but still it looks very mysterious. You can get here by car. A small car park is available just few meters from the castle.

Beautiful ruin of a clan Campbell castle. Nice to walk around and soak up the atmosphere (romantic or haunted?). Private owners look after the place. History of the castle printed as you come to the castle.

A beautiful and secluded ruin of a castle. A brief bit of history is provided when you approach following signs warning you not to explore too far (it is a ruin after all!). It was a nice stop off on a road trip and the ruin made a great subject for some photography. Would recommend if you're passing by!

This is an old castle in ruins that if you want to visit, you do at your own risk. There is an informational sign with interesting historical facts about the castle and surrounding area. This is the final resting place for some people so respect should be given to the area. It's a beautiful castle.

A wonderful find, this castle is on private land and is a ruin, therfore entry is clearly marked, as at your own risk. You can read a good history of the castle from its origins in the 1400s.

We had a lovely one night stay on the way up to the Highlands. We'd visited Killin before, but not stayed. We picked the Killin Hotel because of how dog friendly it is. We had a HUGE, comfortable room in the annex part, which was perfect for us. The dogs even got their own blankets, treats, and water bowl. Which I thought was a lovely touch. The only, very small, downside was the breakfast buffet/option. Some more veggie/vegan options and more fruit would be good. But, we would definitely stay again and I absolutely recommend the hotel as a very dog friendly place. Some superb walks straight from the door too. Oh and the staff were wonderful. So friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. They could not do enough for you. Lovely people 😁

Me and by partner stayed here for 3 nights and found our stay very pleasant. The food in the evening is delicious. There is a cold buffet for breakfast but only 3 hot breakfast dishes to choose from. So could do with more of a variety and it definitely wasn’t worth £15pp. We had our dog with us and did find the room quite small, but it was clean, tidy and had everything you needed. Although we did find the bed extremely uncomfortable, the lady at reception did give us an extra sheet to put on top of the mattress but it didn’t really make much difference. The staff are very attentive and helpful, they all work very hard and are polite and friendly. The hotel itself is in a remote and quiet location but this suited us. Lots of beautiful walks nearby which we took full advantage of. All in all we had a really great stay. Thank you Killin Hotel.

Great location next to the river. Lots of outdoor seating. The public rooms are welcoming and well fitted-out but the bedrooms are a bit tired. Dinner and breakfast were OK on quality but quite a limited menu. All the staff were welcoming and efficient.

This is for the restaurant. We went to another pub in town that said they served food till 9, but when we walked in at 8, they said they were done serving food. Our only option (seriously) was the Killin Hotel. We went right away, and I asked if dinner was still being served. The worker checked and said he could keep the kitchen open for us. They were incredibly nice to do that, and the food was absolutely fantastic. I'm from Chicago, which is a huge foodie city, and their paneer buttery curry was the best I've ever had. Their naan was fresh and fantastic. The restaurant was warm and inviting, and it was honestly my best meal in Scotland this trip. I highly recommend.
Elizabeth M — Google review
We were staying in Killin and stopped by on the off chance we’d be able to get a table for dinner. The service from the staff was outstanding from the minute we stepped through the door. We were advised there would be a little wait for food as it was really busy but it came quickly and it was probably one of the best meals out I’ve had. Reasonably priced, great location & the staff could not be more attentive - highly recommend!
L M — Google review
Everything shuts around here by 9pm and it’s very remote - you should know that if you’re driving a fair way here through any bad weather. We ended up having cup noodles in our room. Service from the lady at check in was amazing, she could see our urgency for food and quickly got us checked in and directed us to the Co-op as that’s all was open. Room is very dated. Bed is comfortable. Bathroom is shocking, stick on floor tiles which have been wet with water (and who knows) that it’s peeled up around the toilet. Bathroom smelt strongly of urine. Room was high enough up that we weren’t affected by the bar but we were near a stair door which banged loudly every time someone came through. Walls are thin, we are young and on a budget, dragged the average down by 30 years which meant we literally were kept awake by boomers in the room next store ‘being intimate’. They also farted a lot and really loudly and had their tv turned up quite loud till very late. You can hear all neighbouring rooms use the bathroom too (shower and flush). So thankful it was just one night.

This was our favorite place we stayed at and ate in Scotland on our honeymoon. The owners were very kind to us, service was great and it was very clean. My husband’s venison was to die for delicious, my fish incredibly flavorful as was the bread and salad. Everything they made—they knocked out of the park. The sticky toffee pudding was the best I have ever eaten. We had breakfast the next morning and I loved my pancakes. I cannot recommend this place enough. If we come back to Scotland we are definitely coming here. The location in the town is amazing and it’s a beautiful building.

Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Ben Lawers, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Killin Gallery. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Ben Lawers, standing at 1,214m above Loch Tay in Scotland, is the tenth highest Munro and the highest mountain in the central Highlands. It offers stunning views of Ben Lomond, Glencoe, and the Cairngorms. The peak is part of the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve which includes nine mountains within its range.
Great access well maintained by National Trust Scotland making this Munro require less effort and time than you'd expect. It's a walk that will boost your confidence and get you wanting more. But, yes, it's high and the wind and rapidly changeable weather will remind you that you need the right clothing (don't forget gloves) as it can be wet and almost always freezing cold. I hope you get a clear day as the views are awesome. National Trust car park! Just brilliant. We spent a couple of van nights there, took in some additional hills too and why not, there's plenty of them.
Paddy W — Google review
What a gorgeous place! Car park charge- £4 for 24hrs. No toilet facilities or rubbish bins. But the views are gorgeous. There are few walking trails that are relatively easy, some of them - moderate level as you need to continuously keep hiking up.
Jurgita — Google review
Awesome climb, well signposted and easy to follow, spectacular scenery, it was one of the best mountains for beautiful views. Plenty of parking at the beginning, £3 for all day.
Matthew T — Google review
Climb was great fun, lovely views until the top which was cold and foggy, but still good hike.
Dawn P — Google review
This place is magical. Make sure to bring some layers and a raincoat with you. Even when it’s nice by the lake (yes, it happens), it can get really cold up the mountain. Also put some waterproof spray on your shoes. I forgot to do it and regretted it soon enough. The parking is spacious so you don’t have to worry about it but I still recommend coming early in the morning. It is truly a special atmosphere there when you are alone.
Olga M — Google review
Wonderful mountain, the 10th highest Munro in Scotland, usually climbed together with ( via ) another Munro Beinn Ghlas. The altitude is high, but also the start point which makes faster progress to reach the top in a short distance. There is mostly more snow compare to the other areas because of the altitude and you can spot a wildlife often. Nice, well sized car park £3 per staying, but maybe full in summer - holidays time as the mountain is popular and accessible - not far from Central Belt.
Mountains D — Google review
Decent walk through a nature trail after a £3 parking place then you have 2 routes up. One on the left which is shallow then a big climb or the right which takes you up a smaller munro first then a few false peaks to ben Lawers. Try and go on a nice day
E T — Google review
Six hours to hike up this plus two munroes closeby. Low cloud meant the views weren't what they could have been but nevertheless breathtaking scenery and a fantastic day out.

Loved our 2 night stay here. Lovely cabin, well equipped kitchen, comfortable king-size bed. We enjoyed a sauna each morning followed by a lovely shower. Not over looked and very quiet. Below are 4 photos, 2 of the cabin through the trees and the view from the cabin. Sadly we didn't see a red squirrel, maybe next time

Stayed here with friends for 3 days and 3 nights - as our first foray into this area of Scotland, I must say we will definitely be returning! ♡ The cabin was lovely and quiet with all the amenities - we did opt to go between bank holidays to avoid a busy period, and we barely saw any other holidaymakers (which was amazing xD) - close to some lovely areas such as the Falls of Dochart, and the atmospheric Finlarig Castle, and the woodlands walk behind the cabins was just... amazing, we loved seeing the old woods with the stream, it really made the trip for me :D the owners themselves seemed lovely and very helpful - I really do hope to come again a similar time next year ♡
Em — Google review
This is truly the worst hospitality experience we've ever had in Scotland. After a stressful period of illness , we wanted to have a retreat in the country to rest and recover. Booked here (through airbnb) what was described as a cabin and has pictures of the view being rolling green hills. In reality this is not a cabin, it is a flimsy terraced chalet with a carpark as the view and neighbours on both sides. The walls are so thin you can hear every word, cough, and snore from next door. We could hear exactly what our neighbours on both sides were watching on television. This wasn't at all what we signed up for and on arriving and realising the extent of inaccuracies from the listing, messaged Glenda which she ignored. We waited til morning and called, her husband answered and I explained the issue, that we had anticipated somewhere peaceful and private. He was unable to offer a solution . I could hear Glenda shouting at him in the background sounding very agitated until she took the phone and unbelievably started shouting aggressively at me, blaming us for not "just speaking to the neighbours". We didn't want to speak to the neighbours about the noise because it's normal for anyone to watch TV and talk when they're on holiday. The issue is that the accommodation is so flimsy that it affords zero privacy. Her husband then came round and gave the neighbours a telling off about the noise, which made us feel terrible and so awkward. We decided at that point that we couldn't possibly stay there any longer. We spoke to the neighbours before we left and apologised for the situation and made sure they knew it wasn't their fault. I tried repeatedly to call Glenda and left a message asking her to call me back but she never got back in touch so had to do the cancellation through Airbnb. We stayed one night of three - yet paid the full £308 and only got £28 returned to us because Glenda refused to refund us. Airbnb tried their best to help us with this issue but because we didn't have a recording of the noise levels or the phonecall they couldn't do anything as everything must be evidenced. We were too upset and shocked at the time to think about recording anything. Aside from this, the "cabin" itself is shabby and has an overwhelming smell that is reminiscent of an old folks home. The tea mugs had dirty old mould on them and the carpets and sofas quite clearly have not had any deep clean in a long time and been used as animal beds. As long as you don't need privacy, peace or have particular hygiene standards, this place would be acceptable. If you dont have any issues, then I imagine the hosts will be pleasant. However unless something else was going on with them that day, they seem incapable of dealing with customer issues appropriately. I wish I'd looked at their reviews on other sites before giving them our money. Seems many people have had similar problems. Loch Tay is gorgeous and we would recommend the area. Update 1.6.23 Just noticed Glenda's comments in response to my review. Lol. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but instead of being able to use critical feedback to her benefit, she's gone on the attack. Says all you need to know about her as a host. Thankfully this experience is just a distant bad memory now!!

Nestled in the picturesque Perthshire Highlands, Killin Golf Club is often hailed as the most beautiful 9-hole golf course in Scotland. The course offers stunning views of rolling hills and the River Dochart, providing a challenging yet scenic experience for golfers. The clubhouse serves excellent food, adding to the overall appeal of this hidden gem. With different tees for front and back, it offers a cleverly laid out course with some beautiful holes.
Really friendly people. Not too busy. Quite hilly to begin with. Good variety of holes. Views stunning.

Beautiful setting for a golf course, quite challenging with lots of hills and hazards, including the famous wall. Warm welcome and good coffee and soup served. The clubhouse is in need of some upgrading but the scenery and very friendly hospitality make up for it.

Moirlanich Longhouse is a well-preserved mid-19th century cruck frame cottage that offers a glimpse into the bygone lifestyle of the Robertson family, who lived there until 1968. The adjacent building houses a rare collection of working and Sunday best clothes. Although it's only open on Wednesdays and Sundays, information boards outside provide insight into this ancient dwelling and its history even when it's closed.
Great history in this house

Tried to visit however despite closing hours stated as 5pm we got there 4 30 and it was all closed. Our one chance during the 3 night break to visit😡
David R — Google review
Only open Wednesday & Sunday it's important to catch this ' museum' open! There are information boards outside, however that mean even if you do arrive when it's closed you can still find out about this acient dwelling & bygone life style. There's a small car park nearby and a nice picnic table both accessible when the Longhouse is closed to the public. Beautiful area to just sit & watch nature at her finest.

We visited the longhouse at the last day of the season and received the VIP treatment :o) The lovely guide told us a lot about the history of the house and how life must have been there in a very vivid way. If you are visiting the Killin area, it’s worth a visit.

When my wife and I first visited Killin in 1966 by tandem the last elderly residents of this beautifully maintained longhouse was still living a subsistence existence. No running water or electricity. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Half a mile west of the village.

Dall Lodge Country House

Bed & breakfast
Dall Lodge Country House is a charming B&B located in Killin, Perthshire. Housed in a late Victorian mansion overlooking the River Lochay, it offers distinctive rooms with modern amenities such as TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy traditional Scottish breakfasts and explore the surrounding area, which is ideal for activities like fishing, visiting national parks, and engaging in water sports.
Some people were born to provide hospitality - Monica and Roman are two of them. I’ve stayed here more times than I can remember and feel like a returning friend every time. Rooms are well furnished with all the little things present. Breakfast is simply superb: home made honey and jams and bread, fresh fruits, meats from the local butcher, porridge. Many of the stunning wildlife photos on display are taken by Roman and both have a hundred recommendations for places to visit in the area.
Julie C — Google review
This is one of the best places we stayed on our trip and I'm so glad we chose this Dall Lodge. The general area is beautiful and there is a lot to do. This would be a great base for exploring. The house has major vintage charm and has been impeccably maintained. Unfortunately we received news of a family medical emergency back home just before we arrived and it threw us for a loop - we had to leave very early the next morning. Monica was so kind and packed us sandwiches and snacks since we had to miss breakfast. She included some local honey that I think is available in their gift shop along with several other local items. I hope to return sometime in the future under less stressful circumstances and spend more time in this area.
Liberty S — Google review
We’re so glad we chose Dall Lodge. It’s easily one of the best places we stayed. The surrounding area is stunning, with plenty to do, making it a perfect base for exploring. The house itself has so much vintage charm, and you can tell it’s been lovingly maintained. What really sets this place apart, though, is the hospitality. Monica has a natural warmth that makes you feel like a returning friend, even if it’s your first time. She gave us such a warm welcome, VERY helpful tips for enjoying the region and the atmosphere was immediately relaxing. And the breakfast? Hands down the best we had on the whole trip: homemade bread and jams, locally sourced meats, and everything beautifully presented. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
Robert C — Google review
Monica and family (husband and pup) are all lovely and provide a level of service that feels tacky to be described as service, for we were greeted as if we were being treated by friends we had yet to meet. From the delicious breakfasts, the little shop equipped with plenty of locally made items, including hats knitted by Monica's own mother and photographs/postcards taken by her spectacularly talented husband, this place makes you feel as warm as their homemade porridge. Cannot recommend Dall Lodge Country House enough for those looking for a home away from home in a village that you want to call your own.
Errol S — Google review
Phenomenal. Exactly what we were looking for - a friendly down to earth B and B with a local flavor. Monica and Roman exceeded those intentions. From a breakfast that rivaled what I recall in Austria and Germany many years ago, with Roman’s honey, local jams and meats, to an in depth guide to the incredible history in the area, to the beautifully furnished rooms that were spotless, we could not have been happier. Chatting with Monica and Roman was a pleasure and we also became friendly with our fellow guests. It was a sublime stay and we treasure the memories. I hope to return in order to explore the mountains nearby.
TK — Google review
Cannot express in words how amazing this place is. Our host Monica or “Monica of the Glen” as we have renamed her is the most attentive, caring and marvellous hostess we’ve met. The room was beautiful appointed, bright, spotless, spacious and bedding made from the finest cotton. The breakfasts well, we didn’t have to eat for the rest of the day. Her homemade whipped natural yoghurt and Roman’s home baked breads were to die for. Top quality locally sourced breakfast items scrumptious! They couldn’t do enough for us, their knowledge of the area and literature in room made for easy navigation to local attractions of which there are many. Should we ever return we will definitely be staying here and recommending to our friends and family. Top notch 10 stars
Helen H — Google review
Fantastic - this was by far the best BnB I stayed in while hiking the Rob Roy Way. The hosts really go above and beyond for their guests - I especially loved the big breakfast with tasty (and homemade) products, a lot of useful suggestions for the local area and hiking routes, and the carefully renovated house and rooms. Thanks to Monica for many great chats, too. This place is a real gem!
Anne S — Google review
Monica and Roman were absolutely amazing hosts! Breakfast was wonderful. Monica was genuinely interested in our daily adventures and gave us great recommendations for hikes. She also went out of her way to accommodate my wheat and barley allergy and provided me with some great gluten-free goodies. I highly recommend staying at the Dall Lodge!

Located in a remote area, Kinnell Stone Circle can be a bit tricky to find using Google Maps. Visitors are advised to use specific coordinates and navigate carefully down the correct road. Accessible by car, the site offers a glimpse of standing stones over a stone wall near a gate to the field. While not widely known as a tourist spot, it is well-preserved and worth the visit for its tranquil surroundings and scenic walk from nearby accommodations.
Gorgeous!! Beautiful village, charming walk to the stones , very well preserved full circle. Amazing! Yes yes yes. Magical
Andy R — Google review
Getting there is a bit tricky, gmaps directs you to a road behind some houses where there goes a wooden staircase to a road that leads to a viaduct crossing. If you want to drive up closer use the road from the Fall of Dorcha side and there is a road that has big fat pillars on each side. It leads to an old mansion road lined by tall trees. On your right you will see a stone wall and some fencing. Technically there is a gate you can go through and quickly take photos. We ended up just taking photos from the wall.
Ragne K — Google review
Ignore the route Google maps tries to take you if driving. It won’t route you down the correct road. Use these coordinates: (56.4665967, -4.3117915) You can pull your car up on the side exactly here and then see the stones over the stone wall in front of you (look for the gate to the field and the stones are to the left). Again Maps wont direct you down this road but you can navigate yourself down it. You can enter this road from either end (from the village end or via the track). You’ll know you’re on the correct road as you’ll see large pillars either side of the entrance to the road with gargoyles on top.
Ian W — Google review
Was very cool to be there but you have to step over a fence and not completely legal 😬🤔
M B — Google review
Easy to find but access to the Field was tricky, couldn't open the gate as it was flooded.
Lizzi W — Google review
Easy to get to from the village . Walk through the estate . Access to the field by gate not over the wall as others have done
Joanne C — Google review
Due to the fences everywhere, it's not clear but one can just hop over and go see it. The locals' sheep stare a bit weirdly, but the area is nice and it's a beautiful walk through the woods from the town.

It was a bit wet when we walked to see the stones but it was worth it.

Staying at the lodges and decided to go for dinner at the Boathouse. The staff were very friendly and personable, always there when you needed but never loitering. All were very friendly with our dog and happy to fuss her. The food was incredible - first, our dog got her chicken and rice (a great portion!) before our mains arrived. The roast beef was delicious, healthy portions and all the trimmings; the seafood linguine was also a solid portion but very light and tasty. Finished off with a sticky toffee pudding - light, nicely sweet and very moreish. Shoutouts to Sarah, Lee and the chef - perfect end to this leg of our trip.

Fantastic meal , Lee was our main server and was great told us the specials and I couldn’t say no to the T bone steak - 10/10 one of the best steaks I have ever had! We also were served by Liam who was brilliant - later on found out it was his first night as a waiter and I would never have guessed he’s a natural and very quick with anything you needed! Also had the Scallops to Start and they are So good! Great staff Great food and a nice relaxed atmosphere!

We were staying at the Cruachan caravan park next door and their restaurant was shut. We phoned the Boathouse to find out if they could fit us in, it was a resounding yes. When we got there a table had been held for us - which was amazing initial service - and I cannot fault the reception our pupper received. Instead of dogs being tolerated at the Boathouse they are embraced with open arms! When we were seated our drinks orders were taken and a bowl of water for pupper arrived as well as a handful of treats. We also saw there was a dog dinner menu! For £4 our dog received chicken breasts with rice and peas just after we had been served our delicious food. I have a serious gluten intolerance and so I ordered the GF fish and chips. It was perfectly cooked and not a bone to be had. My partner had the house burger and it was gorgeous. Portion sizes were excellent value for money. In addition, the hospitality were received from staff was lovely and they were attentive throughout the evening. Cannot rate the Boathouse enough! Please give them your custom and your dogs a nutritious dinner treat!
