Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Historical place
Dunluce Castle, once the headquarters of the MacDonnell Clan, is a sprawling site with a courtyard and fortifications perched on rocky outcrops. The castle offers an intriguing exploration of its remains and original appearance through artist's impressions on visitor information signs. Despite potential slipperiness after rain, the castle provides stunning views of the coastline. Visitors can expect affordable entry fees and access to on-site facilities like toilets.
A great old castle ruin right on some fantastic sea cliffs to see. Lots of the castle left to see some of it has been restored. It’s in a great location and there used to be a whole town around it at one time long gone. You can climb a small spiral staircase up to a nice view point in the castle. The castle is well kept up easy to walk around. But there are a lot of tourist buses that come there and the people come and go quickly so if you’re patient and wait till they leave, you can get some great photos. There are some great viewpoints of the sea cliffs nearby well worth stopping to see.

Another incredible location to check out when out at causeway coast. I love that this location is so close to the causeways so they could be done in the same day if needed. The castle itself is very unreal and beautiful. The tickets are cheap which is a huge plus. I recommend going down the path to get a farther outside view of the castle. The walk to the castle from the parking area is very short but there is limited parking so getting there early is better.

My wife and I went here on a Belfast City Tour and it did not disappoint. It is a large ruin of a castle on the edge of a cliff. Its kept in great shape but the workers there and they are all pleasant and helpful. Spectacular views and gives a great feel of what it would have been like when it was original. Well worth the drive out to it.
Colin C — Google review
We lucked out enough to be there later in the afternoon on a gorgeous day. The staff at the gift shop/ticket shop were very friendly and helpful. The grounds were well cared for and the castle is just beautiful. You can really feel the history walking around it.
Jordan N — Google review
Amazing views, easy access. Quick tour around ruins of the castle without booking. Love cliff’s view around the castle. Just astonishing ❤️ Easy place to take kids for short walk with access to toilets. 10-15 minutes away from Giant’s Castaways so good to add that stop to your trip ☺️
Agnieszka J — Google review
This was a great spot to visit. The castle has been very well maintained and the staff are very knowledgeable about the grounds and the area. They have recreated images of the original interior at each part which is a lovely touch. We felt like we got good value for money as its so well cared for. There is also stunning views of the coastline from up top, particularly of the White rocks.
Kim M — Google review
Such an amazing time. The views were astounding and the blast of the cool ocean air was lovely. To be able to feel the ancient stone and foundation of this castle in person was enchanting. Its incredible to see the remnants are still standing after all this time.

Portrush East Strand is a picturesque beach located along the Causeway Coastal Route, adjacent to Whiterocks beach. This 3-mile stretch of golden sandy shoreline has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag designation and boasts sweeping sands, towering dunes, and powerful waves. The area offers stunning views of The Skerries and the Causeway headlands. Popular for activities like paddling and surfing, it features a new pedestrian promenade and ample dunes.
It is a truly beautiful stunning and very clean beach and very flat for walking. Ideal for everyone to take a stroll. There are parking charges in force including disabled bays with a snack bar now on site on the carpark for drinks, ice creams etc.

I had a lovely evening at the beach it is great lots of sand and lots of space for playing games and walking. The views are stunning aswell however there did not seem to be any available lifeguards on duty maybe because it was the evening time. An ice cream van is also sometimes there so it is very good.

East Strand Beach, in Portrush, is a fantastic spot. It’s clean, well kept and boasts ample parking opportunities. This car park operates on a pay and display system, and during the good weather you’ll find the ‘Freezian Ice Cream’ ice cream van - which offers a healthy range of treats. Whether you’re down for a stroll, taking in the stunning coastal scenery, or just looking a quiet spot to relax and soak up the sun - this beach delivers an exceptional experience. Perfect for families, groups, individuals and appears to be pet friendly.

It great spot for family, new surfers and seasoned surfers. The life guards are great. Facilities in general are good. Beach always clean.

Had an absolutely amazing time at Portrush! The views were truly out of this world it completely blew my mind! 🌄 The scenery is so picturesque, and it felt like I was in another world. Great vibes with friends, and the perfect spot to unwind and take in nature’s beauty. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful yet jaw-dropping escape. Can’t wait to come back! 👏💙

Where Sand, Surf and Coffee Collide in Coastal Harmony A glorious stretch of sand so long and golden it could make the Sahara blush, and yet it’s conveniently located beside a public loo and a decent flat white. What more could you ask for? First things first: practicality. There’s ample parking — not the usual panic-inducing handful of spaces that demand a sacrificial offering to the parking gods. No, this is proper, stress-free parking with enough room for the whole family, the dog, the dog’s emotional baggage, and several surfboards. Toilets are nearby too, cleanish and functional, which in British beach terms is basically luxury. And then there’s Chosen Coffee — the name says it all. Whether you need to warm up, wake up or just wallow in the comfort of caffeine, it’s a necessary pit stop for beachgoers who appreciate their espresso as much as their sand dunes. Speaking of which — this place is a walker’s wonderland. You can stroll eastward along the beach towards White Rocks, let your feet sink into the sand as you amble west into Portrush itself, or take the scenic route around the peninsula past Arcadia, where the views are so good they ought to come with a warning for excessive swooning. Sunsets here? Sublime. The sky doesn’t just change colour — it performs. Golds, pinks, oranges and the occasional moody grey all dance across the sea as surfers catch their last waves and photographers silently weep with joy. Whether you’re here for the perfect shot, the salty air, or to watch your children dig a hole halfway to Australia, there’s something for everyone. Surfers carve through the waves like seals with swagger. Kids sprint around like they’ve been given a sugar IV. Dog walkers parade their four-legged friends as if auditioning for Crufts-on-Sea. And photographers? Well, they just stand still looking smug — and rightly so. In short, East Strand is more than just a beach. It’s an all-singing, all-dancing, sand-between-your-toes experience — with great coffee, even better views, and enough space for both peaceful paddling and full-throttle seaside chaos. Go once, and you’ll wonder why you ever wasted time sunbathing in silence.

55 Degrees North is a family-run establishment that opened in 2005, offering a modern and airy dining experience with stunning views of Portrush's East Strand beach. The restaurant serves gourmet burgers, pastas, and a kids' menu. While the service has room for improvement, the food and atmosphere are highly praised. Additionally, there is a cafe level that offers everyday dining options with lovely views of The Skerries.
Been here a few times and obviously not on the cheapest end of things but the food is absolutely worth it. The wait is quite long but when the food comes it makes up for it. The fellas on the waiting team are really polite and even replaced our strawberry daiquiri for free without even asking, just because the ice was melting. Also great view!!! It’s always a must to go to when I’m visiting portrush!
Ethan B — Google review
It is what it is, an everyday spinoff from the splendid restaurant upstairs but definitely on a cafe level. I had the Chinese Chicken Curry which was lovely and my wife had the 55 Hamburger. Both meals were lovely but were too much. I felt guilty at not being able to finish mine and my wife was the same about her burger which came with chips and pepper sauce. The view is great looking across at The Skerries. The birds can be a bit of a nuisance but you're not allowed to feed them so do so at your own peril.

Lovely staff, great view, good food! It's 2023 now and we were visiting Port Rush again and decided to have Sunday dinner! We were very disappointed.....service was very, very slow....ordered a cocktail and it didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it! It took quite a while for food to come. Granted it was very busy. My dinner was not hot, mashed potatoes were cold as well as the vegetables and meat. The beef was flavorful as well as the roasted potatoes. The desert was delicious, but we actually had to track someone down to get it! Still has a spectacular view!

We visited here after a bracing walk along Whiterocks Beach and it was such a perfect little stop. Fantastic views, lovely service from the young man and the chef did a great job on lunch. Goujons for me and a club sandwich for the husband. For lunch time, those with smaller appetites might like to share a meal as they are extremely generous with portions! Everything very clean (including toilets).

Nice cafe situated with a beautiful view over the harbour area. Prices are on the little expensive side, but the quality of food was excellent. Staff were very polite and helpful. There is no direct parking at the venue, but there is parking available a short walk away. There are toilet facilities there.
Anthony B — Google review
I didn’t like the restaurant only thing is view is great but tables were dirty and food wasn’t even tasteful. Toilets were very good and clean. Burger wasn’t good chips had too much oil and pizza was very dry.Salad didn’t have any tomato but full of onion pepper. Not recommended sorry.
Ebby T — Google review
Food was delicious and good portions, however the service was quite poor in comparison to previous visits. Waiters were quite young, but quite brash and looked miserable as someone 'doing their job' but I wouldn't expect them to go that extra mile, that's the impression I got.
Mark S — Google review
Superb place at the beach entrance in Portrush, perhaps one of the best spots in the city where you get to see the sea and enjoy a diversified menu with big portions—I’d say American portion. My only disappointment was the fact that the main room upstairs was closed during our visit. Other than that, I’d give four stars and half.

Cafe
Indigo Cafe Portrush is a charming spot offering an array of lattes, teas, snacks, sandwiches, and home-baked treats. The menu includes vegan and gluten-free options such as chewy brownies fresh from the oven, colorful salads, and cooked pies. The cafe is known for its great vegan options including burgers and sweet bakes. It's also dog-friendly with a special menu for furry friends.
Every week we go to Indigo after our yoga. It has food to suit all needs. I love the scones in particular. They are always perfect and freshly baked. I have also had the small fry which is beautiful if you need something more filling. The service is always first class and I love meeting the doggies each week. Very well behaved!! I highly recommend it.

Called in for a late lunch. Staff very attentive and friendly. We were told there was a bit of a wait as there were a few tables in front of us but it honestly felt like no time at all. Obviously a popular place and dog friendly with a section of the menu just for pups - brilliant! Will definitely recommend this cafe.

Afternoon Tea in the Trocadero Restaurant was really something special. The setting is beautiful with the perfect ambience, ideal for an indulgent treat. Such a warm welcome from Manager, Selina, who with her team, looked after us so well. Definitely Afternoon Tea at its best with a unique and scrumptious savoury selection and a delightful array of sandwiches, scones and pastries. The quality and service far exceeded expectations and is well deserving of this 5 star rating. Thank you so much for the memorable experience.

So we went here today for something to eat...on first impressions it looked nice.. staff were friendly enough, and the service was decent. I ordered fish and chips, and as u can see, it looked nice . This was not the case, as when I cut into it, it was tough to cut through. The fish was way overcooked, as I found out by looking underneath as is evident by the batter I pulled off and put in the bowl. Value for money??? In my case, NO!!!! first and last time, I will be in that establishment... everyone has their own experience, but mine was not good.....

The White House is a Portrush institution. Great one stop shop for all the family. Great menswear department, excellent women's and children's departments too. Beach
West Strand Beach, also known as Mill Strand, is a beautiful arcing stretch of shore located to the west of Portrush town. It offers a great place to relax and admire the coast from the comfort of its sandy shores. The beach starts at the South Pier of Portrush Harbour and stretches towards Portstewart, featuring a walking and cycle path with stunning views. West Strand is popular for surfing due to its exposure to NW swells, offering larger waves than East Strand.
Luckily we gambled and trusted the forecast. Very sunny day, lovely beach. Sat just off the shore on the sand. Excellent beach, all sand. Plenty of room, great for kids and all family. I love to people watch, so sat for about 3 and half hours. Toilets are a small walk. Other than that, it’s grrreat!

Banoffee pie is a must! 🤤 🥧 Update!! Nov 2024 We're regulars here now 😁 Coffee is always made to perfection. No extra charge for oat milk which I love. not real food: Microwaved pancakes, egg substitute for the scrambled eggs, "maple syrup" was golden corn syrup... all gross. The loud diner acoustics didn't help. There is no service, you order at the counter never to be attended to again.

Pizza, burgers, dirty fries and hot wings.....spot on! Pizza was very good with a lovely thin base and hot wings were exactly what you would expect. I will definitely go again. I would try to find somewhere more quiet to sit next time, that's not a criticism, it's just what I prefer.

A good spot in the port. Upstairs hosts great comedy nights, if you can get tickets. Nice friendly bar. Shame the guiness isn't better but you can't have everything. Now they have pool tables and darts so caters to more people.

With the bold claim of having the best bar food in portrush, we were feeling optimistic. However, the food was rubbish. The chicken goujons were dripping in oil, the salt and chilli chips had enough salt to cause a heart attack (see picture) and the “salad” as stated on the menu consisted of a singular piece of limp lettuce. Do not waste your time.

Pub
Springhill Bar is a traditional Irish pub with a friendly and efficient staff. The drink selection is varied, and the Guinness is particularly noteworthy. On Thursday nights, visitors can enjoy an authentic Irish music session that creates a fantastic atmosphere. While the bar doesn't serve food or offer WiFi, it compensates with its great ambiance and welcoming service.
Best Bar we visited during our stay portrush Proper irish pub with big open fire We went on a thursday when a trad session was on Really good with about 10 musicians taking part Also dog freindly Found portrush the most Dog friendly town in northern ireland Derry was hardly anywhere

We came here as the sun was out and it said beer garden on the side. We were a bit disappointed as no beer garden as such rather a shed for the smokers! Didn't stop us bringing a few chairs outside and creating our own beer garden! Good choice of drinks at reasonable prices. Tvs and gambling machines available. Worth a pint or two.

Beautiful old traditional Irish Pub. The Guinness was amazing, perfect pour, perfect dome, creamy and thick with a perfect taste. I am a Guinness Snob, and although I was only in Northern Ireland for 5 days, and was only able to try the Guinness in the local areas of Bushmills, Portrush, and Belfast. This was the best pint of Guinness and Pub I had been into. I wish I could have gotten the Barmaid's name to mention her here, but which ever-lovely lady was working Monday 4th September 2023 at about 3:30 pm, you were an artist with the Guinness. Highly Recommend this Pub to any Guinness drinker or anyone who wants a nice place to catch a pint in a beautiful traditional pub.

Discgraceful takeover from the Ramore owners. Have been coming here for 10+ years for the Irish trad sessions. We had to leave last night though because the bar staff were explicitly told they weren’t allowed to turn the golf volume down during an Irish trad night, when not a single person in the bar was watching the golf. They lost out on several thousand pounds as we took everyone with us

Adelphi Portrush is a cozy accommodation option in the heart of Portrush, offering functional rooms and suites. The hotel features a sauna, spa, and bistro dining. Guests have praised the accommodating staff and the high-quality breakfast that caters to various tastes. The hotel's central location allows for easy access to all that Portrush has to offer. Additionally, visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the well-equipped rooms and the warm service provided by the friendly staff.
We stayed in this hotel early July and I have to say staff we're wonderful and very helpful the decor is beautiful and as for the room we had a front room with a bit of a sea view absolutely gorgeous. The quality of the bed linen, pillows and duvet was one of the most luxurious I've ever had. Will definitely be back

This is meant to be a 5 star hotel. It does not meet the criteria at all. They are selling rooms based on the 5 star rating and charging high prices. The criteria are not met. It is more of a 3 star hotel. Nice staff but thats not enough. The restaurants food was poor and certainly not worth what it cost. The rooms dust in the bathroom and the shelves where the tea making implements were. Dont book here thinking it is 5 star. It most definitely isnt

I had done tons of research on where to go and where to eat in Portrush and Adelphi continuously came up. When we actually went not only was it stunning but the entire staff was so nice and welcoming. My mother and I ordered espresso martinis and they may have been the best we’ve ever had! Overall the atmosphere, staff and drinks were fabulous and above and beyond. I asked if they had any souvenirs and our waitress came back with a cute tote bag filled with goodies! Truly a great experience and would love to visit again!

As a Portrush resident, this was my first time in the new Adelphi. It has been beautifully restored and is an asset to Portrush. A lovely environment to sit for a quiet coffee. Our meal in the restaurant was variable. The crab linguine was delicious, with lots of fresh crab. Something went wrong with the mussels which seemed microwaved, no other way to describe them, really! Our waiter was called Jamie, he was lovely and had obviously had proper training in hospitality. So nice, it made the meal very pleasant and enjoyable. I would definitely return and recommend- but not the mussels! .

Thought we would try following the recent refurbishment. Went for a family dinner and were very disappointed. Food is overpriced and very bland. Hotel decor is beautiful. Staff were friendly but inexperienced. Won’t be back.

Definitely not a 5 star hotel unfortunately. The interiors are beautiful and it’s had a great refurbishment + location is excellent, but the rooms were also warm & stuffy since they have no A/C. The service from front of house was lacking. We were refused breakfast 10 minutes late, with front of house staff unwilling to show any flexibility. Communication upon our arrival was poor as well. Not good enough for a supposed 5 star hotel. In general staff tried their best and were all very pleasant, but despite it being relatively quiet, staff seemed stressed & confused at times, with there clearly being a lack of leadership or staff training. To be fair - the food & service in the red sail restaurant was absolutely terrific on the Saturday evening. That aspect was certainly 5 stars. It's a decent hotel but needs a lot of improvements to attain a proper 5 star level of experience.

Not enough great adjectives for this experience! From booking to check-in - Michelle was absolutely amazing, although our trip was busy and chaotic the staff were amazing! Took away our stress and let us enjoy the sheer beauty of the hotel and surroundings! Cannot wait to get back again, Portrush needed a proper hotel and boy did Adelphi lived up to it! PS - Stephen (trainee barman 😉) pulled out some of the nicest cocktails I’ve ever tasted! Amazing and such a sound bloke! Thanks for your service and will definitely be back in the near future. Thank you Aaron
