The Hill of Tara, located in County Meath, Ireland, is an ancient archaeological site dating back to the Iron Age and was once the seat of the High King of Ireland. This historic hilltop offers a glimpse into Ireland's rich past, with its iconic circular ridges believed to be sacred by ancient Irish people. The area is also known for its association with St. Patrick and the introduction of Christianity to Ireland. Visitors can embark on a 1.
The visitor center is a beautiful church and has a nice video to explain the history of the site. There is also a nice coffee shop by where you park.

Nice stop, great history. A religious group was doing a service and the coronation stone was barricade non accessible to observe.. i recommend checking for events before going if that important to you.

We had a guided tour which I would recommend. Tara is a significant historical site with many areas of interest like the Dining or Banqueting hall.... which come to life when explained. We were lucky enough to have Anthony Murphy author of Mythical Ireland share his vast knowledge with us. Truly amazing.

Beautiful well kept area with a lovely walk around the site and some amazing views on a good day! Dogs are welcome on leads. Seems to be a cafe which we didn't visit at the bottom of the site and you can park on the side of the road if there is space, if not, the carpark will charge you 2 euro. The cafe don't seem to be too pleased with people parking in thier carpark.
Stewart H — Google review
Interesting ancient historical site! The boards give you a bit of information but I really would recommend doing some research before you get here because the details are so deep, and you don’t get the full experience without having all of the background.
James L — Google review
Stopped by here on our way from Derry to Dublin. We came in the evening, so the visitor’s center was closed, but we were able to walk around the grounds, and it was nice that there weren’t any big crowds. I had been interested in the High Kings of Ireland from playing Crusader Kings, so it was really cool to see the stone where they were crowned. And we hadn’t been able to go to Newgrange, but the Mound of the Hostages here was a nice substitute, being smaller but also over 5000 years old and aligned with the sun. Even if you’re not that spiritual, it’s not hard to see why this place has been seen as sacred for thousands of years.

Beautiful site with awesome views surrounding countryside. It is walking on grassy hills, so requires average mobility. Standing where kings and queens have been made is a bit of a treat.

Cosy and safe holistic centre in a stone cottage. A gorgeous fairy water-well is just down the road, and next door is a classic, old book shop. Loads squeezed in here. It has a warm feeling when you go in and well decorated. Reasonably priced, too. There is a prayer table where you can add your name to a box for healing. There is no pressure to spend in here. A wealth of stones, crystals, artwork, clothing, candles etc etc

The club boasts excellent facilities, including a well-equipped pro shop and practice facilities. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the delicious food served at the clubhouse. The picturesque landscape adds to the overall beauty of this well-maintained course, making it a must-visit for golf enthusiasts.
Lovely spot 3 Great courses 2 exceptional even the yellow course is lovely. Staff were terrific with our Blind hosts and their individual needs. The sun always shines here.
Nigel D — Google review
It's a lovely traditional parkland course. The courses (3 nine holes) are tree lined with well positioned nicely maintained tricky greens. The well presented tee boxes have the much needed maps of the hole to help guide you around the course. The bar staff are very pleasant and friendly, the service & food are tops. IMO the course has to be played a few times to get the hang of it however I think it's a cracker and probably doesn't get the credit it deserves. Give it a go, you'll enjoy it.

Bective Abbey, a well-preserved national monument, dates back to the 13th to 16th centuries and was founded in 1147 by Murchadh O'Melaghin, King of Meath. Located just a short drive from Trim, the abbey's grounds are open to the public. The ruins are off the R161 and offer visitors an evocative glimpse into history.
One of the best maintained ruins dating from the 12th century. It’s just sitting there roadside waiting to be explored. The history of these places gets in your bones. Ireland is loaded with abbeys. The monks here kept knowledge alive during the dark ages and fed it back to continental Europe sparking the renaissance.
Patrick M — Google review
Bective Abbey is one of the most atmospheric monastic sites in Ireland, a place where history, architecture, and landscape come together beautifully. Founded in 1147 as a daughter house of Mellifont, it was among the earliest Cistercian foundations in Ireland, established during a period of great reform when the Cistercians brought their austere yet powerful vision of monastic life to the island. What survives today reflects both the simplicity and the strength of that order. The cloister garth, with its fine arcades, is remarkably well preserved and offers a vivid sense of the monks’ daily routines of prayer, study, and labour. The church, though partly ruined, still conveys the Cistercians’ architectural ethos—clean lines, minimal decoration, and an emphasis on proportion rather than ornament, in stark contrast to the more elaborate Romanesque and later Gothic churches elsewhere in Ireland. The abbey was not just a spiritual centre but also a powerful landholding institution. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Bective controlled extensive estates, and its abbots were figures of political as well as religious significance. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII in the 1530s, the abbey was surrendered and granted to secular landlords, at which point parts of it were converted into a fortified manor house. This explains the later defensive features—such as battlements—that overlay the original monastic plan, giving the abbey its unique hybrid character. Bective has also entered popular culture through film—most famously, it was used as a location in Braveheart. Yet even without the Hollywood connection, it is a site of haunting beauty. Set on the banks of the River Boyne, its quiet, ivy-clad walls invite reflection on the ebb and flow of Irish history: from medieval piety to Tudor conquest, from flourishing abbey to evocative ruin. For anyone with an interest in medieval monasticism, Cistercian architecture, or simply the poetry of ruined stone in an Irish landscape, Bective Abbey is unmissable.
Brian R — Google review
Had the place almost to ourselves, well except for the ‘murder of crows’ ! Never seen so many crows together, what a sound! The abbey was nice to walk around and it’s free entry!
Catherine S — Google review
Free, good parking, easy access. Mostly open to explore and the little ones to climb. Alternating to see successive constructions and imagine rooms usages.

Amazing old abbey. Probably the best dog area ever. No charge to walk around the grounds. Must have under height vehicle to enter parking lot.

Great visit to an old abby. Apparently was informed that some scenes from Braveheart were filmed there.
Andy M — Google review
We must say Ireland has its more than its fair share, of abbey ruins to see, however, this one is on the must see list, there are lots of nooks and crannies to be explored, some ventured with caution, we love there is accessible parking to be had, and just a small scenic walk to the ruins. we found the late afternoon was perfect for piccies.

Great atmosphere and pitch. Stand, and facilities not in as good of condition anymore.
Paddy S — Google review
Disappointed with the ground as it is old and dated. Toilet facilities were very poor. Catering facilities need a lot to be desired. Seating was on benches. Entrances and exits from the stand were confusing and dangerous. On the plus side the playing surface was good and the locals were friendly.

Breathtaking little gift shop, with absolutely lovely staff. Very patient and willing to help with anything that was needed. The cafe next door was brilliant as well. A little pricy for what you get, but definitely worth a stop if you’d like a quick bite.

This has become a go to spot for us when we go to Ireland. It's become a "we've arrived!" stop for us and is such a nice spot to catch your breath after traveling. Arrived last Fri at 2.30pm the place was very quite, I was told to sit wherever & then we had to ask for a menu 10mins ltr. We ordered eventually got our food then had to try & get there attention again for a pot of tea. Went up to pay & they had our table food order in a total mess eventually got it sorted but u need to get ur staff up to speed & get someone there to manage the staff. Nobody seem to know what they were doing. Worst experience in my life
Joan M — Google review
Unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience here yesterday and I feel terrible leaving a bad review but when it comes to allergies and dietary restrictions, establishments need to be so careful. My husband has an allergy to onion and asked for a wrap without onion, stating that he has an allergy. The wrap arrived with onion and he had to send it back. No apology or accountability when it arrived back out again and after a few bites he found bits of onion in the wrap. He has been quite unwell for the past 24 hours as a result. If they weren’t able to offer it without onion, just say that. He would have happily gone without food at all as long as it meant not having a reaction.

Ambient atmosphere. Superb service. The staff member was cautious and kind enough to warn us which items contains pork or not. We ended up ordering Ma La chicken: Get ready to flood your blocked nostrils and awaken your dead tastebuds, because it lives up to its menu name, SPIIICCCYYY Chicken and pineapple: Didn't really feel anything special, sweet dish. Chicken fried rice according to my son was a bit bland. Could have helped with a bit more flavour and ingredients when compared to the competitors

Will never order from china garden in navan again. Terrible service. Horrible food. Wrong order and bad attitude when you complain. Was supposed to be salt n chilli ribs but chicken arrived. Chicken balls were dry like cardboard. Lesson learned.

I absolutely love China Garden — it’s my go-to spot for Chinese food! I come here all the time, and it never disappoints. The food is always fresh, full of flavour, and served hot. Michelle, the owner, is so lovely and welcoming every single time. She really takes care of her customers and makes the whole experience feel personal and warm. The service is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing something to go, China Garden is always a solid choice. Highly recommend if you’re craving great Chinese food with a personal touch!

Wont be ordering from here again. Ordered a chicken chow mein and fried rice. It came after an hour and was stone cold. So rang and explained to the restaurant that the food was cold and they said they would send out a new order but they wanted the first order back. So I waited another hour for a new order and it was cold again. Wasn't waiting another hour so it went straight in the bin. Had a toastie and tea for dinner.
Emma N — Google review
As always the food was amazing but Susanna was serving us in the takeaway and I have to say what absolutely fantastic service it was, she ensured our order was correct and helped out so much. She was fabulous.

Probably the best Chinese restaurant in Navan. Very popular and busy. Very attentive staff. Option of eating on the ground floor or upstairs. White tablecloths. Food was tasty, but our curried chicken was only luke warm. The mixed platter as a starter was very nice. Nice choice of desserts, which is unusual for a Chinese restaurant. Plenty of options on the food and wine menus. We liked the French merlot @ 30 euro a bottle. The place was very busy when we were there, but very well managed. It is wise to book.

Bective Tea Rooms, also known as the North Lodge or the Gate Lodge of the Bective House Estate, has undergone a remarkable restoration project. The fusion of the old cottage with modern architecture has resulted in a stunning and stylish café surrounded by immaculate gardens. Visitors can enjoy delicious dishes such as chicken and mushroom pie and seafood chowder, served by friendly staff in a bustling yet welcoming atmosphere.
Lovely Irish place. Beautiful drive in to teach the tea rooms. Parking area is green and lush, very beautiful surrounds, when entering and especially when seated outside. Staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. Love the diversity in staff. Food is really good; well presented and coffees and teas are hot when served (unlike some places).

Can't recommend Bective Tea Rooms enough! We booked the afternoon tea for a baby shower at the venue. We were seated in a more private area of the restaurant, which gave us room to move around and not be in the way of other guests which was amazing. The afternoon tea was fabulous, food was delicious and beautifully presented. Everyone is so friendly and beyond accommodating. We also ordered a cake through Bective for the event and it was gorgeous! Thank you so much for everything, we will be back!

Went here today, beautiful tearooms and landscaped patio area. Service is very slow waiting for food to come out, maybe 20 mins or more waiting on apple crumble and pancakes. Staff were very friendly. Beautiful place but the menu is expensive compared to other places similar. Pot of tea, apple crumble and kids pancakes(we had asked for regular portion but they brought a kids one) 2 very small pancakes the size of your palm for €22.75 . It would turn me off going back again to be honest, pity because it's a nice place

Best time at the Bective Tea Rooms Went here a few weeks ago based on a recommendation. We were not disappointed and I’m paying it forward. We took a walk around the grounds lovely loop. Through open and shaded areas passing through forests and paddocks with bourses. Nice 3.5 approx loop finishing back at the entrance and beside the restaurant. It was a beautiful day. Friday late lunch and still busy but not too busy thot we couldn’t get a table great buzz and atmosphere about. Plenty of friendly attentive staff. Food was delicious, really fresh, options for indulging or keeping it healthy. We shared a club sandwich and side salad. Absolutely yum. Desserts looked lovely but we didn’t sample. That’s for another day. Plenty of parking available. Definitely go along for a visit.
