Sun City Resort, located in the North West of South Africa, is a premier holiday destination that opened its doors in 1979. Situated near the Pilanesberg National Park and boasting the iconic Valley of Waves, it offers a unique combination of surf and safari experiences just a two-hour drive from Johannesburg. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, an exciting weekend with friends, or a family vacation, Sun City Resort has something for everyone.
Visiting Sun City Resort with our learners for the Telkom Netball Games was an incredible experience. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the learners were beyond excited to explore such a beautiful and well-organized destination. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly staff who made sure everything ran smoothly. The resort was clean, safe, and very accommodating for both adults and children. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from, offering a wide variety of delicious meals and snacks at reasonable prices. Everyone enjoyed the food, and it was easy to find something for every taste. The resort also provided many fun and relaxing spots where we could unwind after the games. The facilities were well maintained, and the environment was peaceful and refreshing. It was a perfect balance between sport, leisure, and learning. The learners loved every moment, especially being part of such a prestigious event in such a beautiful location. Overall, our trip to Sun City Resort was memorable and worth every moment. It’s a place I would recommend to schools, families, and anyone looking for a clean, safe, and exciting destination full of adventure and relaxation. We can’t wait to visit again in the future!

Sun City Is really a city on its own. Love the fact that ones you get there and park your car you will not need it until the time you checkout. These shuttles to even activities outside the resort. The number of fine dining restaurants need to increase feel like these not a lot of variety there. The staff is friendly and even when these thousands of us, they somehow don’t forget the faces. That is one incredible thing I noticed, very unique indeed. The activities are well managed

Staying in the Junior Suite at Sun City Palace was a truly memorable experience. The staff were warm, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect. The atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing, with stunning surroundings that made it easy to unwind. Breakfast each morning was delicious, offering a great selection and excellent service to start the day right. However, for the price you pay per night, the room itself could definitely use a bit of an upgrade. While still comfortable, some of the furnishings and finishes feel slightly dated compared to the otherwise luxurious setting. Overall, it was a lovely stay — just a little refresh would make it perfect.

An unforgettable experience at Sun City Resort! Sun City truly lives up to its reputation — it’s the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and luxury. The resort is beautifully maintained with stunning scenery everywhere you look. From the Valley of Waves to the golf courses, restaurants, and entertainment options, there’s something for everyone. The staff are friendly and always willing to help, and everything feels safe and well-organized. Whether you’re going for a weekend getaway or a family holiday, Sun City never disappoints. Highly recommended! 🌴☀️🏖️

We spent 4 nights at Sun City, again Hotel from 2-6 October to celebrate my 60th birthday. The Main hotel has been beautifully upgraded and some other facilities at the Resort. Check-in was done by a friendly and professional gentleman HOWEVER that's were their clientele stopped. We were met with abrupt, unfriendly staff throughout our stay. The cherry on top was the lady at the breakfast area front desk, she was unfriendly and had no manners speaking to visitors. The manual system te record visitors entering the breakfast area are long and tedious which ended up in long ques. Servers in the breakfast area were unfriendly, gave attitude when asked something, to the extend that we made a decision not to ask or engage staff to avoid frustration. We had so many bad experiences that it was a waste of money and my 60th birthday celebration was for below my expectation. Definitely not value for money if the facility is glamorous but service poor and clientele non-existent. We had to withdraw from our 6am game drive as ranger would not leave until all late comers were picked up, we spend time waiting then eventually driving to the palace to collect people, only to find they're not ready and the rest of the group were forced to wait... I can go on and on ... The main hotel had 1 lift working while the hotel was fully booked,

Really great experience for going out for the day . But if you do wanna explore whole of Sun city, u might aswell wanna book in for more than a day or two there to explore more and have fun everywhere around sun city. But the services ... now and then u get them being enthusiastic but most of the times they not . But else still thanks for the services and help u gave here and there a little .

Wonderful four night stay at The Palace. Every member of staff was incredibly helpful. Sampled lots of different food options and no complaints from me. Pool area is stunning.. The only minor gripe I have is the players card system in the casino- it’s impossible to get the card verified in a slot machine within 10 goes! Please sort this out! Thank you so much Sun City- can’t wait to return!

Suncity is great for families, they cater alot for children. Lots of fast food places. But for wine and dine we could not find one . Not sure about the Palace. We stayed at the Cabannas. Nice pool and lake. Over time its changed .

Water & Amusement Parks
Valley of Waves is a top-notch water park located within Sun City Resort in South Africa. It features a lazy river, thrilling slides, a wave pool, and a dedicated children's area with attentive lifeguards. Staying at one of the four Sun International hotels inside the complex grants access to this exciting waterpark as well as covers the resort entrance fee. The options for accommodation range from the value-for-money Cabanas Hotel to the luxurious Palace of the Lost City.
Amazing calm place with beautiful music to spend the day with family or friends.Very safe, clean and well managed and taken care of.You get free access when you are booked in one of the hotels inside suncity, there is also loads of activity to do there for kids and adults.Buses run throughout the day transporting guests from hotels to attraction places and activities.Looking forward to my next visit to SA.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Valley of Waves at Sun City and happily give it five stars. The atmosphere is vibrant and relaxing, with a perfect mix of fun, excitement, and a tropical beach feel right in the heart of the resort. The wave pool is absolutely thrilling and makes you feel like you’re by the ocean, while the slides and rides cater for both adrenaline seekers and families. The area is clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by stunning scenery, which makes it a great spot to spend the whole day. Service and facilities were excellent, adding to the overall experience. A must-visit for anyone going to Sun City!

This place is nice and beautifully. You can enjoy the place with kids and family. At Valley of waves you can do a lot of aqua activities such as sliding, tube, lazy river🤗 You can have your snacks. You must go early so you can enjoy until 5pm. I recommend.

This was so much fun for the family especially the Waves. The rides were for everyone and very thrilling. The kids went on all the rides. We spent the whole day there. This is a must do.

From entering Sun City resort we've experienced a warm and kind welcome. Preparing our own food at our unit at the vacation club to going to the valley of the waves, walking through the maze and reach the roof bar with spectacular views and enjoying a lovely sundowner, to playing ten pin bowling and just chilling at the Gary Player Golf club restaurant and enjoying a coffee with blue crane 396 come flipping its wings right in front of us, it was a very memorable time with family and friends here. Most definitely one of my wow moments here. Thank you to all the friendly staff amd to all the bus drivers that took us to and fro and never complaining to drive the same route day in and out. You do deserve an extra star for keeping the good work up.
Devilliers B — Google review
This place is incredible! Beautifully set up with a real tropical holiday vibe — palm trees, sandy beach, and those amazing waves in the Roaring Lagoon! The slides and lazy river keep the kids busy for hours, while adults can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. A fantastic family day out. Highly recommended!

The Gary Player Golf Course and Country Club offers a well-equipped gym with stunning views of the golf course and mountains, making it worth the visit. The health spa and gymnasium provide a relaxing experience, including full-body massages with hot stones. The well-maintained golf course is accommodating to mid to high handicapped golfers of all ages, making it a recommended destination for avid golfers. Additionally, the clubhouse offers decent food in a world-class setting.
Was staying at the main hotel and needed a place to workout. Walked across to the gym at the country club. It is TOTALY worth the R80.00 a day price tag. Well equipped and very well kept! Lots of areas to catch your bread and take in the golf course and mountain views. Recommended 100x over.
Buyisiwe V — Google review
As always this place is spectacular, after huge amounts of rain the course was immaculate, albeit very challenging. We played both golf courses but Gary Player Country Club remains one of my favorite courses and had the privilege of playing a few holes with the legend himself, Gary Player...almost 90 years old but still as fit as ever.
Mark R — Google review
Probably the toughest course I’ve ever played but enjoyed every moment of it. My caddy, Budha was amazing as he knew the ins and outs of the course whilst being a legendary ball finder, being able to find my ball in the thick rough. The course provides a plethora of shot types to play whilst also having lots of risk management. The scenery of the lake was also beautiful alongside the high hills. There were also a lot of local flora and fauna making this not only fun to play, but fun to relax in the scenery.
Cheezo — Google review
It was the best experience playing where the greatest golfers walked. It was humbling walking over all the names on the 9th hole and playing and putting where they won big money.

Great course, world class. Green fees are good especially for MVG's and include a very nice lunch. Tough course but fun. No carts allowed but very good caddies.

Decided to have breakfast at the country club restaurant. Ordered eggs bacon tomato and toast. The food was decent but the view was spectacular. The monkeys decided they also wanted our breakfast so beware. They’re not shy to steal right off your plate. Well priced and a lovely experience.

The Entrance to the Maze of the Lost City at Sun City is an underrated but well-built challenge that takes at least 20 minutes to complete. Upon reaching the end, visitors are rewarded with complimentary drinks and a fantastic view across Sun City and of the Palace from the upstairs bar. It's a great activity for families, with a quick exit available for those who may feel overwhelmed. The bar at the end offers a wide variety of beers, making it a great reward after completing the maze.
Sun City is a city you cant forget in a heartbeat, its a world within a #city filled with adventure, quests, fun... very intriging!!! There is a lot to see, eat and do from golfing to hiking to safari to gambling to restaurants to opera to theatre to shopping there is something for everyone! I'm super scared of heights but I decided to take a bold step and face my fear, I went on the swing bridge...it wasn't easy but a went all the way. You are surrounded by rocks, rusty serene, flowers, brown earth, trees in a nutshell nature at it's best. The swing is very safe, you won't fall... at the end of the maze you will be rewarded with beer tasting and cool nuts! This is an adventure you wanna embark on, you won't forget it in a heartbeat! I recommend Sun City for your next trip! Life is fun!!! Enjoy every bit of it 😎😎
Funke G — Google review
The maze is a really underrated part of Sun City. It’s built extremely well and poses a real challenge! You should expect to take at least 20 minutes to get through it. However, it’s very rewarding to get to the end and get your complimentary drinks. If you sit upstairs at the bar, there is a fantastic view across Sun City and of the Palace. Definitely recommend!
Christopher F — Google review
This was really a fun activity. We were actually lost in the maze at first, but we found our way after the second attempt 🤣. It was so much fun that we will definitely do it again!
Hashtagmystore E — Google review
Great activity for the entire family. If you get overwhelmed and can't find your way out there is a quick exit. The bar at the end of the maze is a great reward. The bar offers a wide variety of beers, the beer tasting is a good option. Will recommend that this activity be done early morning or later afternoon as there is no shade in the maze itself.
Ivan W — Google review
Had a lot of fun in the maze. It's amazing how you can laugh with strangers in there. Afterwards, we cheated and chose the quick route to finish the maze, too frustrating trying to find the right way. At the end of the maze was beer tasting. Great view of Sun City from there. I can imagine this could be a good venue for special occasions done the seating areas are covered.
Aggie V — Google review
Although the are many benefits to going to Sun City when it's off peak. The maze would have been more fun had there been more people around. The bar was empty but definitely with the right crowd could have been amazing. Beautiful view from above the bar. The beer tasting at the end of the maze was a lovely treat.
Marsh M — Google review
Give it a skip. Nothing interesting to be honest. To begin with there’s a wooden see through bridge that you need to cross to reach the entrance of the maze. Secondly the maze is located on the top of the hill so you need to walk some steep slopes and once you reach the spot... all you want is some good adventure. But it disappoints. The maze is not that confusing put it simply. You have to get yourself lost and that’s how you feel some excitement. At the end there’s a restaurant which again is not the exit. The entrance and exit are at the same place. Not worth it in my view
Prasad ( — Google review
I bit Pricey just to go walk in a maze that only took 3 mins to get through. Then having to pay R50 for a beer at the end.

Restaurant
Bosveld Shebeen is a South African Breweries initiative that offers an authentic township experience. It's known for its limited menu during events like the Rugby World Cup and for not having imported or draft beers. Despite some changes, it still provides a unique atmosphere with attentive service and a big screen for sports. The food is well-priced, with sizable portions, and the shebeen theme is well-reproduced.
Beautiful nice restaurant to have lunch at Sun City. Delicious food, cold beer and service - especially Anna our waitress

10/10 great experience all round. Friendly staff, great deals and surprisingly very very delicious food. We ordered chicken burgers, it's a shame I was so hungry that I didn't take a picture of the burger. Even the bun was perfect.

Good food. Good quality. Always fresh and always hot food. The service is friendly as well but they can be slow. They have drink specials as well and a carwash right there as well for practicality. They have 2x pool tables for entertainment. Inside and outside seating available. In winter they have bonfires and heaters. Sometimes theres live music as well.
Jason M — Google review
Amazing experience. Had lots of fun with the jukebox. Food was great.
Annuska B — Google review
Decent food. Beers and ciders served in 660 bottles (quarts) as well. Housekeeping can improve as there was a lot of litter on the floor when we got there at 3 pm on a quiet Sunday afternoon..started cleaning only half an hour after that. Service was a bit slow even though it was quiet. I went up to the barman, who eventually came and took our orders and served us. Visit if you are at Sun City.
D M — Google review
What a fantastic experience. The food was so well priced and the portions sizeable. The shebeen theme was so well reproduced and the service was excellent. A wheelbarrow and an evening meal is a must and the jukebox is awesome. Quarts, nips and shebeen decor add to an authentic experience.

American restaurant
Store
Hard Rock Cafe Sun City is a lively chain that embodies the spirit of rock 'n' roll. With an energetic atmosphere and a menu featuring classic American dishes like burgers and wings, it's a favorite among many. However, some customers have expressed their desire for more variety on the menu, as it hasn't changed in quite some time. Despite this, the restaurant remains popular due to its fantastic music selection and friendly staff who provide excellent service.
As expected of a Hard Rock Cafe, the food was absolutely phenomenal. We loved the sliders and the nachos were perfect for sharing. Another plus was that the staff allowed us to change the channel to watch the Masters (golf) during that day which was nice.
Cheezo — Google review
Do not get the boneless wings...the weirdest ones I ever did taste and the buffalo sauce was bizarre. Update: Thanks for your reply. They are indeed on your menu under appetizers...says it comes with carrots and blue cheese and your choice of sauce...Buffalo, sweet and tangy or BBQ if I remember correctly. Maybe I had a bad batch as they were cylindrical and really crunchy. I would definitely look into them if I were you. Cheers.
The U — Google review
Gee...whizz...! My visit to the Hard Rock Cafe at Sun City wasn't great at all. When we arrived, our table service was great, and that was where the good experience ended. Thereafter, after the food was ordered, we waited...ok we were quite a big group. Part of our food order included a meat platter (pic attached) which was going to be shared between 4 of us due to the amount of food in the platter. When the food arrived, it soon became evident that the meat had been very over cooked and as a result, it was very tough and dry. Hardly edible at price of R1,300 per meat platter. As a going concern, the Hard Rock Cafe is expensive as their burgers are priced at close to the R200 mark and a steak salad at R195. Who knows... maybe the Hard Rock Cafe at Sun City had a trainee chef or they just had a bad day. Either way, I'd give it a BIG miss as it wasn't great and very disappointing... definitely not a destination restaurant. I hope this helps.

Phenomenal evening! I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a unique and memorable night out. Our waiter, Pardon, was exceptional — attentive, friendly, and ensured our dining experience was taken to the next level. Every meal was freshly prepared, and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful suggestions throughout. We left impressed and satisfied — will definitely be back!

Lovely environment no doubt, the art and memorabilia on the walls cary so much history and significance. Our server Pardon was the nicest, most welcoming and KIND. He made the experience beautiful and lovely. Will be back and if you get the chance to dine at the Hard Rock Sun City give Pardon a Shout Out.
Nyathi M — Google review
We ordered the Hurricane and Paloma cocktails. The Paloma felt a bit too strong for me, but the Hurricane had a sweeter and more enjoyable taste. As always, Hard Rock delivers the same great vibe, service, and flavor no matter where you are. Consistent and satisfying experience!

Wimpy, a well-established chain, offers a laid-back dining experience with an extensive menu featuring burgers, mixed grills, and comforting dishes. The eatery has been frequented by customers at Sun City and consistently delivers excellent service. The food is delectable and reasonably priced, making it an ideal destination for families and individuals seeking a pleasant atmosphere to relax or get work done.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wimpy at Valley of Waves – Perfect Pit Stop During a Fun-Filled Day Wimpy at the Valley of Waves in Sun City is the perfect place to refuel and relax in between hours of sun, swimming, and slides. We were genuinely impressed by how well this branch delivers on both convenience and quality, especially considering it’s located in such a busy, high-traffic part of the resort. Despite the rush of holiday crowds, the staff were friendly, patient, and efficient. Orders were taken quickly, food came out in good time, and the service was attentive throughout. They even went out of their way to help us find shaded seating, which was hugely appreciated after a morning in the water. The food itself was exactly what you’d expect from Wimpy—consistently good, hot, and satisfying. The burgers were juicy, the toasted sandwiches were crispy and generously filled, and the chips were fresh and golden. Of course, we couldn’t skip their famous milkshakes, which were thick, ice cold, and a hit with the kids. What really stood out was how clean and well-organized everything was, even during peak lunch hour. Trays were cleared quickly, tables wiped down efficiently, and staff managed the fast-paced environment with genuine enthusiasm and energy. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick coffee, a sit-down meal, or just a familiar taste in between swimming and lounging, this Wimpy delivers a comforting, dependable experience in the heart of the action. Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A well-run, friendly Wimpy with fast service, quality food, and the perfect location to make your day at the Valley of Waves even better. Highly recommended!

We had a person in a Wheelchair that could not safely access the Valley of Waves Wimpy restaurant. We were told that they do not cater for clients in wheelchairs that is very bad because where are they supposed to eat? The pathway consists of sand and wooden sleepers making it impossible to push a wheelchair safely. I raised my concerns with the Valley of Waves Guest Relations staff and was told “we never thought of wheelchair guest access for the Wimpy”. The food was mediocre and the rib burgers did not have the correct sauce as we were told they ran out of sauce. Maybe some inclusion of persons in wheelchairs should be considered.

This visit was just another reminder of why we usually avoid Wimpy. We ordered a burgers, which were quite pricey for what it was... unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the cost. The patty was dry, the overall flavor was underwhelming, and honestly, my basic homemade burgers taste better. What made it worse was the long wait. We waited far too long for our food, and when it came time to ask for the bill, we had to request it three times. Eventually, my husband had to go up to the counter himself just to get it sorted.

SLOWEST SERVICE! After 20 mins of being seated. I got up to ask for a menu and for a waitress. Was ignored by the two ladies I spoke to-I say back down. My mother took a menu from a table next door. Took 50minutes to get a coke. No ice, in a take away cup because they’ve run out of glasses. There were glasses on tables not being cleared for the entire time we were here. Ordered regular chips- were given the equivalent of small chips at other wimpy outlets. Just piss poor, apathetic service. No manager on site. And it wasn’t busy. 3/01/23

Family restaurant
Palomino Spur Steak Ranch is a family-friendly eatery that serves up a variety of delicious dishes such as steaks, burgers, ribs, and wings. Upon arrival, guests are warmly greeted by friendly servers and promptly seated. The menu offers an array of options to choose from. One can indulge in their mouthwatering crumbed chicken burger accompanied by a refreshing lime milkshake. The service is exceptional, with the lime milkshake arriving within minutes and even including a fun candy straw.
Excellent restaurant. When we got to the Spur, we did not have to wait and were friendly greeted by a lady who took us to a table. The friendly waiter was quick to assist and our orders was taken promptly. The meals we ordered had generous portions, our steak was prepared to perfection. The kiddies meal portions was also more than enough for them. It was a very enjoyable outing for our family. I will in future definitely return to this Spur.

I came here for breakfast with my little brothers. We Experienced such a HORRIBLE experience today the 3rd of December 2024. I have never experienced such a bad service from such an ill mannered team. We were out celebrating my little brother’s birthday. I told the waitress that it is my little brother’s birthday today, then she came with her colleagues dragging their feet singing like they’re forced to. Even worst they turned their backs to our faces. Laughing like we are such joke to them. It was so bad that my brother didn’t pay attention to them and didn’t even accept what they offered him. We ignored them and they didn’t even finish singing whatever song the sang. They dispersed while giggling like they are seeing baboons at the Zoo. Even worst, I asked to see the manager they still went to regroup and laugh again in front of the manager. I walked to them by the door and I found this talk guy with a scar on his face/top of the eye. The scar face then said to his colleagues: ‘that boy should be grateful we even sang for him. It is a favour because we sing only for kids’ I asked where is the age restriction, because we are not aware of this notice. The owner of this shop should notify customers that their employees don’t sing for old people. Because customers will be the joke of the day and his employees are going to laugh horribly so at such requests. He even had the balls to exchange words with me. I mean the whole Spur team regrouped to speak about my little brother and laughed at him. How do you ruin someone’s special day like that? They are so unprofessional and bunch of stupid people who are not well trained. Such a long story I will cut it here I’m still pissed of.

Greeted by friendly waiters. The restaurant is nicely located, looks so neat and tidy-does have a new look to it. The Manager Jason was an amazing host who played thee most beautiful songs on a Sunday which took us back in time where music was life. We enjoyed our meals and drinks and the service was great.

One of the best Spur's we have been to in terms of the food. Everything was perfectly cooked according to our preferences. Service could be better but the food more than made up for it. Been there on 3 separate occasions when we went to Sun City and never been disappointed.

Awesome service. Great location at the pool and waterslide areas. Food is excellent. I've only used this restaurant for breakfast so they do it quite well.

Shrimp and cheese was amazing i would come back for this only Calamari not good tastes only fried crumbs Fried chicken thighs delicious The fillet steak with cheese and mushrooms was ok I didn’t liked the bbq sauce on it and the mushroom sauce wasn’t tasty I asked the 2 sides for the steak is fries and salad But it only came with salad when i asked the waitress she said only 1 side is with the steak although i saw it in menu 2 sides I don’t know if i am mistaken and didn’t get the menu!?

After being greeted by a friendly server, I was seated and given a menu. I ordered a crumbed chicken burger and a lime milkshake. First I received my lime milkshake (it was barely 5 minutes), and I received a candy straw with it! I immediately had a smile on my face and it was almost like my inner child was excited by this phenomenon (quite a wow experience). Thereafter, I received my meal (which arrived around 7 minutes later). I can honestly say that this was the best crumbed chicken burger from a SPUR that I have had. Not only was the patty a generous size, but it was also made to perfection. If you are hungry and in the area, I would strongly recommend.

Pizza restaurant
Casa Bella Sun City offers delectable and authentic Italian cuisine, starting with the mouthwatering and freshly baked focaccia parcels upon arrival. The Mussel Pot, Caprese starter, and Springbok Carpaccio are all exquisite choices. Additionally, they have a great kids' menu and are conveniently located near a play area. However, it is important to note that the restaurant is situated in a busy thoroughfare which may raise concerns about children's safety.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Casa Bella – A Standout Italian Experience at Sun City Casa Bella at Sun City offers a truly exceptional dining experience, combining authentic Italian cuisine with warm hospitality and a beautifully curated atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with stylish décor, a relaxed ambiance, and friendly, welcoming staff who immediately make you feel at home. The menu is packed with Italian classics, and everything we ordered was prepared to perfection. The wood-fired pizzas are a standout—thin, crispy, and generously topped. The pasta dishes are rich and flavorful, with perfectly balanced sauces and fresh ingredients. The slow-braised oxtail and the grilled calamari are also worth a special mention—both were absolutely delicious and clearly made with care. Service was top-notch from start to finish. The waitstaff were attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to accommodate any special requests. It’s rare to find a restaurant that consistently nails both food and service, but Casa Bella pulls it off effortlessly. The setting is sophisticated yet relaxed, making it ideal for a romantic dinner, a family meal, or even a group celebration. Everything from the lighting to the music contributes to a warm and elegant dining experience. Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you’re visiting Sun City and in the mood for fantastic Italian food in a beautiful setting, Casa Bella is a must-visit. Outstanding food, excellent service, and a memorable atmosphere—definitely worth every star.

We were craving an Italian place and this restaurant caught our eyes. We ordered a margarita and a buffalo pizza. The dough wasn’t really nice and the pizzas were okay. Its decent to just fill your tummy but not if you want something really nice. The servers mentioned that there is a no drink policy as well when we just came from the cinema. We were a group of 4 and we did order drinks so it wasn’t something extreme to have half of a fanta.

Hands down the best food & drinks in Sun City! 🍕🍷 Their vegetarian options were delicious and satisfying – a treat for us as vegetarians. Cozy ambience, great service, and full marks for taste. A must-visit food stop on your Sun City itinerary!

Had a superb family dinner at Casa Bella (Sun City) tonight. All 11 meals arrived on time, were hot and enjoyed by everyone. Mainly various Pizzas, however I had the Fillet Pasta with Gorgonzola cream sauce. One of the best, and Pasta homemade. Thato, our waitress deserves special mention for getting it all 100%

Very tasty pasta and wood fired pizza. The menu has classic Italian and “modern” flavour options to choose from. The front of house staff are trained extremely well. Phillip was our waiter and looked well after all our needs.

So I'm editing my previous rating of the pizza since we decided to return. We ordered the lamb shank and pulled pork pasta. Both exceeded expectations. They were simply delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I throughly enjoyed my pasta and strawberry daiquiri (although I hardly tasted any alcohol in it — which turned out to be a good thing). The dessert was also good, my friends and I all ordered a meal with dessert and no complaints. Our waitress was also very attentive and friendly.
Nompumelelo N — Google review
Food was horrible... The pasta was a mixture of undercooked and overcooked. It was also very dry. The menu says "chicken strips" but the chicken was more like minced and thrown on top of the pasta. My meal looked like is was just thrown together with a lot of mushrooms and a few red peppers. Very disappointing given the price of the meals.

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Pilanesberg National Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Legends Restaurant. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Pilanesberg National Park, located in an eroded alkaline crater north of Sun City, offers a diverse wildlife experience with over 7000 animals. Originally designed as a weekend escape for city dwellers, the park now provides accommodation ranging from bush camping to luxury lodges. Just over 2 hours' drive from Johannesburg, it's an ideal family getaway and is conveniently close to Sun City for those craving urban attractions.
Incredible Morning Game Drive at Pilanesberg We went on the morning safari in July and had to be at Sun Central by 6:15 a.m. — absolutely freezing, full-on winter, but so worth it! Despite the cold, the experience was unforgettable. We spotted elephants, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, impalas, bulls, and even a lion in the distance. One of the most surreal sights was the “smoking rivers” in the early morning mist — pure bliss. The guides were knowledgeable and engaging, making the whole drive even more special. Tip: Dress warmly, bring gloves, and don’t miss the sunrise over the bush — it's truly magical.
Dhanishta K — Google review
Our visit to the park proved to be a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience. Despite the anticipated odds of encountering the "big five," the wildlife we observed brought us immense joy and satisfaction. We were fortunate enough to witness a variety of animals, including a lioness, cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, elephants, zebras, warthogs, and even a crocodile. The entire experience was simply amazing. Furthermore, our transportation was expertly handled by Bruno, the tour driver from the transport company, who ensured our comfort and convenience from our hotel and back. Considering the comprehensive nature of the experience, it was undoubtedly worthwhile, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. We made our reservation through the national park's official website.

If you a looking for a quiet, peaceful and relaxing activity over the weekend this is the place. The only con is the potholes but understandable considering the type of environment and even an entry level hatchback is able to handle both the tar and gravel road. The entrance fee is also reasonable for someone looking for budget friendly things to do
Gontse T — Google review
One of the best experiences in my life. We were very lucky and saw nearly every animal, it was super cool! The guide, who told us to call him T., was an incredibly skilled and experienced person, who knew all the habits of local animal and informdd us about them while prioritizing our safety.

Excellent game reserver. We had a wonderful time seeing 100s of elephants, White Rhino, Wildebeest, impala, kudu, water buck, girraffe, hippos, warthogs, meercat, zebra and more. The Pilanesberg Center is really a great restaurant, you must try there hamburgers. The only negative was the bad main tar roads but getting off these roads onto the gravel road allows you to see a huge variety of game. The other negative is the angry male bulls walking in the roads towards the late afternoon chasing the cars, utas nit a nice experience. All in all we really had a wonderful time and saw ample game, over 11 species multiple times and two of the Big Five. Thsnk you Pilanesberg Game reserve, we will be back.
Martin V — Google review
Beautiful views. You can get good sightings of Rhinos, Elephants, Giraffes, & Antelopes. Only lucky ones get to see the big cats, chances are pretty less. Nice lunch offered by MoAfrika tours.
Amarjeet D — Google review
Awesome adventure. Saw so many animals right from the start. Variety. Some roads needs majour repairs so just be awake when you drive there. Also watch out for the game viewers. They drive like crap and speed. Also when there is a sighting a lot of them park in such a way that you cant pass them and block the sight. Happened atleast 3 times over the two days
Riaan G — Google review
Access to the park is via terrible roads with potholes and little signage. The Bakgatla gate to the park had no WiFi, so I could get in for free. Some of the surfaced roads in the park have many potholes so it's best to drive slowly as one should. I had a great time on just one day with many brilliant sightings of Rhino and elephants. The hide at Malatse dam is a must for birders. At Mankwe dam I saw elephants swimming across from one side to the other which was totally amazing.

We stayed at the Buffalo section of The Reserve in a newly renovated unit. The finishes and changes in these units makes it top notch and definitely more exiting to get in for your next vacation. The unit bedrooms which are all upstairs all have aircon which is awesome but sadly no aircon at the bottom, not a major let down but can get extremely hot. We had some issues getting in at the reception and there were ling queues and we were given wrong unit keys and had to insist on a renovated unit because the old one was not up to standard, and in all that took about three and a half hours in total because of the long queue and the fact that we gad to queue 3 times. This process needs to be streamlined and they need to get better at check-in, because they look like amateurs and unprofessional. And they waste guests time. The stay at Sun City with all the activities and stuff to occupy you is amazing. Things Sun City needs to work on: 1. Check in process -streamline it 2. Upgrade all the units as soon as possible 3. Improve housekeeping timekeeping and standards 4. Improve maintenance and call outs to units Otherwise, great stay. Love the new Reserve Upgrades.

Always exactly what I need for a good time out. Definitely worth the money to spend a week break here every so often. Sure, some items prove to be a bit pricey but for the most part it is affordable and understandable. Sun city is a great holiday for swimmers and even those who don't like swimming. There is plenty to do and plenty to see. The nature is just spectacular and great for those living in urban areas to enjoy.

Sun Vacation Club: Absolutely vacation like. While waiting to check in, one sees the large outdoor pool through the reception doors leading to the pool area. Kids enjoy two slides while parents lounge around on the deck chairs. Free popcorn and slushies are served, seems like all day. There are fun activities running throughout the day like bingo and other family games. There's The Pantry, a grocery shop and Quench, a bottle store at the Vacation Club reception building. Accommodation: Definitely exceeded our expectations based on 7 years ago. The chalets are modern, clean and welcoming. Two film bathrooms, dishwasher, microwaves, toaster and cupboard space for groceries. Parking: Parking is provided although some parking bays are a small distance from their chalets. Housekeeping: Housekeeping does a really good job. Leave in the morning and come back to a chalet that has been reset to original!!

Sun City Vacation Club is the perfect family getaway. The views are incredible, with plenty of beautiful bird life – and we even had a warthog visit us at the pool! The warm, large swimming pool with fun slides kept the kids happy for hours, plus there was great entertainment and fun games at the pool with Christopher. Our room was spacious, neat, spotless, and very comfortable. Everything is so well maintained. Truly a great family spot – we can’t wait to come back!

Very pleasant. Accommodation is of a high standard and very well serviced by a large complement of very friendly staff. I am sure the landscape could have been used a bit better in layout to have better views than the back of the building in front of you. Can get a bit rowdy in parts during early evening. Nothing to warrant a complaint though, just lots of loud people having a great time which is always a better noise.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Aviary. The units are in serious need of maintenance. The whole time, there were plumbing issues, broken cupboards, Aircon not working. Then to top it off, they have a landfill site that is approx. 20-30 meters from the rooms and they were burning waste during the stay, which caused a massive smoke issue and bad smell. Be very careful before you stay and certainly wouldn’t recommend buying membership. Management sent a generic apology and didn’t bother to make us good for the money that was charged (for a very substandard experience). I still have question marks over the legality of burning waste so close to rooms ..

Outdoor Activities
The Lost City Golf Course in South Africa is known for its brilliant views and challenging round of golf. The fairways and greens are pristine, but the bunkers can be quite challenging. It's essential to book in advance due to its popularity. The course features different types of hazards that make for a unique and enjoyable experience, with some players even encountering crocodiles on the course.
I recently had the opportunity to play at the Lost City Golf Course in Sun City, and I was blown away by the experience! As a beginner, I was a bit nervous, but the course was more forgiving than I expected. The scenery is breathtaking, with stunning views of the African bushveld. The course is well-marked, making it easy to navigate, even for a newcomer like me. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was accompanied by people offering valuable tips and advice to help me improve my game. The facilities, including the clubhouse and pro shop, were top-notch. Sun City is a gem. There's plenty of activities to do around like the Valley of the waves, which is a family activity. So after playing golf the family can do other activities. The course offers plenty of opportunities for beginners to learn and improve. Overall, I'd give the Lost City Golf Course 5 out of 5 stars. It's a fantastic destination for golfers of all levels, including beginners. The scenic views, friendly staff, and forgiving course make it an ideal spot to learn and enjoy the game.

A very challenging but absolutely stunning and beautiful course. Highly recommended to get out and enjoy a world class golf course where the wildlife are at home to roam around. The views are spectacular and each hole is carefully carved out of the beautiful landscape. I recommend taking some extra balls and a caddie who can assist in finding some those stray tee shots.
Rodger B — Google review
The golf course offers a truly stunning experience, with its fairways being one of the standout features. Lush, well-maintained grass stretches out smoothly, providing an inviting path for players. The vibrant greenery and carefully manicured landscape create a picturesque setting that enhances the overall enjoyment of the game. Each hole presents a unique challenge, while the beauty of the fairways adds to the serenity of the surroundings. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or a beginner, the breathtaking views make every swing feel special. Overall, it's a fantastic course that promises a memorable day on the green!

Very very very beautiful course with a distinct lost city theme. The holes were challenging and if we didn’t have the caddies, we wouldn’t have known how to play them. Also, be on the lookout for some crocodiles on hole 13 as it’s a sight to see!

Championship golf course, my daughter played in the Nomads SA Girls Rosebowl Champs 2024. Lots of tricky holes, bunkers and water features which make the course very beautiful indeed. I walked the full 18 holes with her and experienced some awesome views of the mountains and surrounding nature. Pro shop can at least employ another person to work there instead of just 1. Staff overall very helpful and friendly

Me and my friend took a walk to the golf course clubhouse for coffee. I don’t play golf but the layout of the course looked structured. Given that it’s winter the club has done a good job maintaining quality of the greens, which looked good. I really enjoyed my coffee and the blueberry sauce was just amazing.

Legends Restaurant in Sun City is a delightful fusion of modern chic and Mediterranean flair, offering an exceptional fine dining experience that pays tribute to the iconic figures who have graced this vibrant destination over the years. The restaurant's walls are adorned with memorabilia celebrating renowned singers and sports stars, creating a nostalgic ambiance. Guests can indulge in a trendy grill house menu featuring innovative takes on classic steaks, seafood, and burgers while enjoying an extensive drinks selection tailored to diverse palates.
We had an awesome dining experience. The singer dedicated a song for us which was really cool. Our waitress was attentive and provided excellent service. The food was really good and delicious. The atmosphere was also good. They tend to get really busy so rather book in advance for a table.

This is now the second time in three months I’ve walked out of Legends Statehouse thinking, “what a dump.” For a place that calls itself a steakhouse, they still don’t have steak knives - a basic essential. Our entire table ordered ribeyes medium rare at a premium price, and not a single one was cooked correctly. Several steaks were sent back, some more than once, and even after that, they couldn’t get it right. It’s shocking how little care goes into execution and customer experience. After giving them a second chance, I can confidently say there won’t be a third. Hugely disappointing.
Deron F — Google review
Do not eat steak here unless you want to fight with it! Sent ours back to the kitchen because we had to fight with it, it was so tough. Be safe and order the fillet as it was much better than the other cuts. Also they do not give steak knives to cut your steak, your have to struggle with something slightly sharper than a bread knife. The lamb shank was nice and fall of the bone tender. Was the one tasty dish of the night. So that was supper. The breakfast here are not bad at all and would gladly eat breakfast there again. Just nothing else.

After a day at Valley of Waves with my niece and nephew from China we were looking for and excellent meal and some good wine to end off the evening. We tried Legends at the Sun City Hotel and were very impressed. The food was really good, the waitress was attentive and the atmosphere was fantastic. My nephew had the T bone steak which was cooked to perfection. My niece had the lamb chops which were just a tiny hit tough but tasty none the less. I had the oxtail and mash which was very good although the darkened meat would suggest that it had been re cooked . Overall was so impressed that we went back a second night and it was equally good. I read the reviews afterwards and was surprised at the 3.7 rating out of 5 and the complaints of tough steak. It certainly wasn't our experience. Perhaps they have new owners ( not sure) or they have just improved and upped their game. We will certainly return here. The place was full on both nights ( Sat and Sunday) which is always a recommendation. Finally Sun City has a decent steak house. Squires Loft was a dump!

I had braised oxtail with Mash and Bean Salsa… the food was just mouth watering, well cooked and well presented. Entertainment was on point as it is more often than not. I’d definitely recommend it for family dinners, couples and friends.

I came here for dinner and had a good time. I would give the restaurant itself a 2 but because of the service and Clint - the performer - I really enjoyed the night so I'll go with a 3. We started with some wine and then had the Pan-Fried Calamari and Prawn and it was unfortunately very underwhelming. The prawns were ok but the starter didn't exactly come as described because there wasn't any chorizo, no butter bean mash, but instead had a sad side salad. For a main we shared the Lamb Shank and it was really good. The lamb literally fell off the bone but I felt like it was lacking a bit in flavor. The vegetables were really good though, they weren't too mushy. For dessert we had the Cheesecake (I'm not sure it was on the menu but it was recommended to us). The cheesecake wasn't the best either, not creamy at all but was instead crumbly. Despite the subpar meal, the service was good and Clint was such a nice guy! Clint had come around at the end of the night and was super nice and sociable. I wouldn't come back for the food but I would definitely come back for the entertainment!

Nando's Sun City is a delightful dining destination that specializes in flame-grilled peri-peri chicken, infused with the vibrant flavors of African bird’s-eye chili. Nestled within the lively atmosphere of Sun City, Nando's boasts stunning views and an inviting ambiance, making it perfect for both family gatherings and romantic dinners.
The food was extremely well done and it was hot. The staff was friendly and very cooperative. I never eat such a great chicken in any other Nando’s. It was soft and it was hot. The whole family enjoyed a lot.

The chicken was burnt on the drumstick, and there was griddle taste. The sauce (mild) was salty The Mac and Cheese was dry and lacked seasoning. The last time I bought Nandos was in Durban a few years ago. It was a similar experience.

We got food poisoning from consuming corn meals ordered yesterday. From 3 friends: I ordered quarter chicken and Corn while my friends ordered the Grande Salad with corn, another friend ordered chicken, chips and roll. The corn meals made us very ill and vomiting over night till afternoon. I’m very disappointed as I’m a Nando’s fan and this experience shook me and left me physically weak. 😖😖

The area was really clean and wasn't full at the time. The service and advice was good. We all enjoyed the food. The churros were really good. Ask for caramel sauce. The prices were standard Nandos rates (high). But really glad to have them as a halal option in this location. The seating area is big and worth a try especially if its empty. The order was ready quite quickly.

With its warm atmosphere and attentive service, Mohican Spur ensures that every visit feels special. Diners can indulge in classic comfort food while enjoying the cheerful ambiance that makes it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Tucked away in Sun City, is the all time favourite restaurant, SPUR. Despite its remote location, the service is impeccable. The welcome is warm and cheerful. The food is spot on. Spur … wherever you are, you are the best for comfort food. And reliable service.

Disappointing service. Breakfast was served without toast. Waiting for toast, breakfast getting cold. Then tea served without the milk. Another wait for milk. Then a long wait for the waiter for the bill after asking another Spur employee to please find the waiter. Waiters busy running between orders around the pool and tables in the restaurant does not work.
Veena S — Google review
Set alongside the pool at the Vacation Club, ordering beers and cocktails from a lounger has never been easier! A waitron is always nearby, the beer is cold and the food comes quick, hot and fresh. I was really impressed!

Had lovely meal. Fillet steak and hot vegetables. Really enjoyed and cooked well. My wife ordered the prawn and avocado salad with “seafood” dressing. Nowhere does it state that the seafood dressing contains chilli nor that it’s spicy otherwise she would not have ordered it. She’s allergic and one tiny taste and her chest closed up resulting in 10 minutes of gasping for breath and wheezing cough. The staff were fantastic and most apologetic however it’s not their fault. Management should ensure that their food is properly described. Chilli can cause anaphylaxis in some people. I believe it’s now in the lemon butter sauce. NOT EVERYONE LIKES CHILLI. So advise them of this fact.

My experience at this spur was a great one. Our waiter was supper efficient. The food was great, i was totally satisfied and while your enjoying your meal you have a great view to look at. Cappuccino was great too.

Worst Spur! Took over 20 min to take our order, no waiter would help and we had to go to the front to order take aways just to sit and eat. We then waited a long time for strips and chips. They were way understaffed and the manager avoided me and my complaints.

This Spur Steak Ranch is in the Sun Vacation Club, Sun City. They provide in-restaurant service as well as service to vacationers enjoying fun time in and around the pool area. Their service is punctual and friendly. We ordered passion fruit and lemonade drinks, and spicy buffalo wings. The holiday atmosphere around the pool with the good food from Spur just helps make the vacation all the more better. Children play, get hungry, eat and play again without parents having to wake up from their deck chairs!

Start your day with a complimentary breakfast featuring a variety of options to fuel your adventures. The newly revamped Sun City Hotel is simply amazing. Every single aspect of our family vacation was perfect, from check in to check out. Staff were incredible, room was phenomenal and food was exquisite. Definitely recommend this one of the best family vacation spots in South Africa.

Good experience at Sun City! We stayed here for 2 nights and the rooms were clean amd well-maintained - although the elevators were under maintenance and only one was working, which wasn't ideal. The staff was very helpful and made our stay comfortable. The resort offers a huge number of activities, making it perfect for families. However, keep in mind that it's more suited for summer months - we visited in winter and found it a bit chilly for most of the water activities - which are the core of the resort. They have a nice shuttle service to take you around the resort, and it really does make it easy to get around. One thing to note for Muslim travelers: food options are limited to just two halal options - Nandos and an Indian restaurant. All other eateries are non-halal, so plan accordingly. Overall, a great stay, and I'd recommend Sun City to families and those looking for a fun resort experience.

This place feels like Fort Knox. After visiting numerous other resorts trying to get information about visiting the resort/casino is more painful than a root canal. Nobody answered the phone, the is a entry fee to the parking lot and the food ain't that great. One has to stand out in the weather to wait for the bus. No complimentary beverages. I think it's run like the ANC government.

Suncity offers something for everyone. My absolute favourite are the morning 90 minute walks I take around the golf course. The Palace of the Lost City is without doubt a very grand and impressive hotel – the scale and design are stunning and it certainly feels like somewhere special to stay. That said, for me it was a little on the impersonal side. Because the hotel is so big, every time we came back from being out we were asked if we were checking in, which got a bit repetitive and made it feel less personal. The staff did try to help most of the time, and there were some nice touches – we were given a complimentary bottle of prosecco, which was appreciated, and Lesley, who does the foot massages by the pool, was absolutely lovely. She really stood out as one of the highlights of the stay. On the flip side, there were a few things that could have been better. Our in-room TV still showed the bill of the previous guests, which was a bit odd. Breakfast, while offering lots of choice, felt busy and disorganised, which took away from the overall experience. We were also disappointed to find the famous erupting bridge closed for maintenance, something we weren’t told about in advance. Overall, it was an okay stay. The hotel is undeniably beautiful and worth seeing once, but for me it lacked that personal touch. I’d probably only return for a single night just to enjoy the grandeur again, or next time look at one of the smaller hotels in Sun City for a more personal and relaxed experience.

Easily the most beautiful hotel I've been to in the country and it rivals my international stays as well. The staff is extraordinary, maintaining a high standard of friendliness and always willing to help. The room was gorgeous and clean. They have a morning service to clean your room and a further evening service to clean your room as well. The breakfast buffet is still the greatest I've had ever. There's nothing that's not offered and the only gripe I have is that I can't have it everyday.
Leago T — Google review
The Palace of the Lost City is such an apt name for the hotel, as it holds all the majesty and grandeur of a palace. On arriving, one is immediately treated to an animal sculpture fountains at the center of the entrance to the opulent palace with tall towers. The entrance is nothing short of breathtaking with its animal murals and mosaic art. You are warmly welcomed with your choice of a welcome drink and refreshment towel. The walk to the room is next part of the experience. You are treated to the most scenic views with there being a literal small forest in the middle of the hotel accentuating the experience of a getaway from civilization. The rooms themsslf are great. I stayed in the superior luxury family room. It had ample space for my family. The furniture was beautiful and very comfortable. It had a nespresso machine with 6 complementary pods (replaced daily). The bathroom had both a shower and bath tub with lots of space fir a family of 4. Breakfast takes place in a very large area. While no halaal food is available there is amazing choice and variety in food even if going vegetarian. The breakfast is a masterclass in how a good breakfast is done. Finally, by choosing the palace to choose convenience as you get direct access to the valley of waves (please note while they say it's close be ready to decent hundreds of steps). Additionally, a free shuttle service is available to go anywhere on the resort. Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a memorable experience.

Complaint & Review – The Palace of the Lost City Hotel | Sun City Resort Date of Stay: 17 – 18 October 2025 Guest Name: Martin Venter I am writing to formally express my disappointment with my recent experience at The Palace of the Lost City. I had chosen your hotel for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion — a marriage proposal to my girlfriend — and unfortunately, the service and experience fell far short of what one would expect from a 5-star establishment of your reputation. I had gone to great effort to make this occasion memorable. We booked accommodation at The Palace and I arranged and fully paid for a private gazebo dinner for two on 17 October 2025 around midday. However, the experience was marred by several serious issues: Unavailable menu item: The Flambé 24k Gold Plated Beef Fillet with Truffle Fries — one of the highlights of the gazebo menu — was not available on the night. Poor food quality: We ordered the Beef Ribeye medium, but it was served well-done to the point of being inedible. This is unacceptable for a premium dining experience. Payment harassment: Despite having settled the gazebo payment earlier in the day, I was harassed at my hotel room at 11 PM by staff insisting on payment. The next morning, on 18 October, I received yet another call demanding payment for the same dinner — even though proof of payment had already been provided. Undelivered romantic arrangements: I had also arranged for a small bouquet of 12 red roses and a special turndown service in the room — both of which were never done. When I queried this with the Concierge, I was told it was “too late to arrange” and that I would receive a refund. As of 30 October 2025, I have received neither the refund nor any communication from the hotel. Overall, what was meant to be one of the most meaningful evenings of my life turned into a deeply disappointing experience filled with frustration and embarrassment. The lack of professionalism and follow-up from your team is unacceptable for a hotel of this calibre. I respectfully request: An immediate refund for the undelivered flowers and turndown service; A formal apology for the poor service and payment harassment; And, ideally, a gesture of goodwill for the distress caused during what was meant to be a special occasion. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this matter. Sincerely, Martin Venter

Balloon Rides
Mankwe GAMETRACKERS offers game drives that provide an introduction to the world of wildlife safaris. The 3-hour drive, despite encountering rain, allowed for a knowledgeable guide to showcase the local fauna. It's recommended to choose a time based on animal preferences, such as herbivores during the day and predators in the early morning or evening.
We went on the hot air balloon ride at Pilanesberg, overall we can only say WOW! Our guide Promise, delivered, as his name states, was a delight to drive with him, he knows alot about all the animals, gave ample opportunity to photograph them while sharing his knowledge about them with us. The hot air balloon ride was a blast, saw loads of animals from above, a once in a lifetime experience! The breakfast at the lodge afterwards were amazing and finding a maroela tree with ripe fruit were a bonus! Overall booking and experiencing an exciting trip with Mankwe was a delight, giving them a 11 out of 10.
Retha T — Google review
When we got back from our game drive with Mankwe Gametrackers, we were all still buzzing from the experience. It was, without a doubt, the absolute highlight of our trip to Sun City. We had hoped to see some animals, but we never expected to have such an incredible run of luck! We turned a corner and there was a majestic giraffe, just calmly nibbling on the leaves of an acacia tree. Not long after, we came across a whole herd of antelope gracefully moving through the grasslands. The real heart-pounding moment came when our guide spotted a lioness resting in the shade -- and then we saw her cute cubs nearby! It was breathtaking to see them so calm and powerful in their own habitat. We also visited a waterhole where a pod of hippos was lazily wallowing, grunting and splashing about, and to top it all off, we were even fortunate enough to spot a rhino in the distance---a truly special and humbling sight. None of this would have been the same without our fantastic game ranger, Nicky. She wasn't just a driver; she was a storyteller and an encyclopedia of knowledge! She could read the landscape like a book, pointing out tracks and signs we would have completely missed. She taught us so much about the animals' behaviour, from why giraffes have such long tongues to how lion prides are structured. Her passion for the bush and its inhabitants was infectious and made every sighting feel like a privilege. If you have the chance to do a game drive, do it. And if you're lucky enough to get Nicky as your guide, you're in for a truly educational and unforgettable adventure.

What a fun game drive we had. Not only did we manage to see the big 5. We had such close encounters with a pride of lions. Rhino and elephants. Our tour guy Promis was so much fun. Kept us smiling. And went out of his was to show us as much as we could in a 2hour tour. Thank you so very much. Made our trip from Cape Town worth while.

Fantastic we had a phenomenal day. We saw a lioness and her cubs, cheetah and a cub, white rhinoceros, giraffe, hippopotamus, warthogs, elephant etc. Our guide was informative and very friendly. They had complimentary coffee, tea and some muffins and cookies. This was a flawless game drive from the operators side. They also accommodated the wheelchair guest. Just a note if you like to take in the ambience of the African bush consider paying abit more for a private experience because there was a lady from another party that did not keep quiet for one minute in the 3 hour drive telling her life story and being disruptive. However due to the majesty of the African landscape we could manage to tolerate her constant talking. We will be back for another game drive next week. Thank you for this amazing experience, words fail to express how wonderful it was.

Had a fabulous 6 hour game drive including lunch at Pilanesberg with our guide Sappo who was so informative, went out of his way and didn’t fail to deliver sightings of the game we were looking forward to seeing. What a fantastic experience to see a young Cheetah up close and then spent a long time viewing a leopard watching and waiting from his hideout in a tree. I would really recommend this day and our driver Seppo.

Great experience, this activity is a must! to do in Sun City Resort. Thank you to Trayce and her team's

The Sun City Zip 2000 provides a thrilling experience distinguished by three main elements: the broad open landscape around the zip line course, the powerful sense of high-speed fall, and the ride's lengthy duration. These variables combine to provide an exciting and adrenaline-fueled adventure. As riders begin their descent, the wide landscape heightens the sense of freedom and exposure. This absence of confined areas heightens the sensation of speed and height, adding to the total exhilaration. The sheer velocity gained when riding downwards adds another level of intensity to the experience, offering a true buzz for adrenaline junkies. The zip line's length guarantees that this sensation of exhilaration lasts for an extended period of time, rather than being ephemeral. This prolonged ride duration allows people to really immerse themselves in the experience of flying. The personnel at the Zip 2000 were seen to be particularly pleasant and friendly, which is consistent with the prevailing mood across South Africa. This pleasant encounter with the personnel improves the whole experience by bringing a human touch of warmth and friendliness to the excursion.

Our zip-lining experience was absolutely fantastic! The staff at the facility were not only friendly but also incredibly patient, especially with my son, who initially had reservations. They made us feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire adventure. The breathtaking views combined with the exceptional service made this outing truly memorable. A big thank you to the staff for turning what could have been a nerve-wracking experience into an exhilarating and enjoyable one!

Epic views. Super long. Super fast. Super safe (as far as I can tell). Great service. Would be back any day. Done a dozen zip lines or more and this is THE BEST!!!

Best place to have fun ,ALL STAFF were super friendly and very professional 👏. The ride itself was really a great experience .my husband and I will definitely go back @unreal zip2000 .

Fun, exiting and thrilling! Beautiful views of the resort. Our instructor was very friendly and reassuring. She was also very funny and made sure that anyone who was feeling afraid felt comfortable. At the end of the ride you also get an extra bonus! You can buy beautiful African wood or stone sculptured surveniers like a lion/elephant/rhino etc for half the price you'd pay at the resort. The seller is also the art worker himself so you know you support locals directly. They also sell some drinks while you wait for others to arrive.

I was just a spectator for this one but four of the boys in our party gave it a bash. They all turned a whiter shade of pale when we got to the top of the hill where the zipline starts and I really thought they would chicken out but once the transport leaves to take the spectators to the bottom it's the only way down. When they got to the bottom after screaming like babies they all wanted to go again 😂. Each of them said it was the best experience ever. I was a bit shocked at being charged R100 as a spectator but afterwards I realised why. We were transported to the top of the hill to drop the "fliers" then all the way to the bottom which is out of the resort gate and a little way along the main road and then back to the pick up point at the welcome center which means that you take up a space which could be used by someone paying the full price. It was well worth it though.

Loved it and wanted to do it again when we got to the bottom. Surprisingly it wasn't the type of feeling o expected... think I was expecting it to be like a roller coaster but it wasn't. It was like floating / flying.... not like your belly goes funny like on a roller coaster. This is a MUST!

Hamburger restaurant
RocoMamas at Sun City is a top-notch eatery that caters to famished families with its generous portions of chicken wings, strips, cheese balls, and spicy fries. The service is exceptionally speedy, with cheerful staff members adhering to all necessary COVID protocols. The R139 special is both delectable and offers great value for money. The cheese bombs are simply incredible. Kudos to the Manager, waitron, and kitchen staff for their warm welcome and commitment to excellence.
The service was amazing, the atmosphere was very warm. The waitress, Khanyi, was very friendly, polite and energetic. My friends and I ordered the chili cheese bombs and I would rate them a 10/10. The cocktails were especially tasty, our waiter recommended them to us. Overall I would highly recommend you visit the restaurant, whether it be with family or friends. I would also like to appreciate the manager Rosina who ensured we enjoyed our meal

Review by a Different Customer: Terrible Experience at RocoMamas Sun City Absolutely disappointing. We were really looking forward to grabbing a meal at RocoMamas Sun City, but the entire experience was a letdown from the start. We waited at the entrance for ages without anyone even greeting or seating us. Once we found our own table, it took forever for someone to notice us—and when they did, it still didn’t help. No menus, no drinks, and definitely no urgency from the staff. The place was chaotic. Tables were dirty, staff were walking around aimlessly, and no one seemed to be in charge. Other guests around us looked just as frustrated. After sitting there for what felt like forever with no service at all, we eventually gave up and walked out hungry. It’s a shame because the brand usually delivers, but this branch really needs a serious shake-up. Not going back anytime soon. Rating: 1 star. Avoid if you value your time.

No lamb options. Waiter didn't have a very good handle on the options and what certain items on the menu where. Food ready quick. Overall disappointed. Improved from previous experience. The nachos better

RocoMamas As always, Rocomamas is the best place to go to, when you have a hungry family. Ours were famished and they ate the generous servings of chicken wings, strips, the cheese balls and the spicy fries. The service was remarkably quick. Cheerful staff. All covid protocols were observed.

Cabanas

Cabanas is a part of a resort with 2 golf courses, 21 restaurants/bars, and a man-made beach. The package includes accommodation in a Standard Twin Room at Cabanas or other luxury rooms at different hotels within the resort. Guests can enjoy daily breakfast, rounds of golf at the Gary Player Country Club and The Lost City Golf Course, as well as credits for food and drinks. Access to Sun City Resort and the Valley of Waves waterpark is complimentary.
Visited for my 40th birthday celebration. I had a pleasant stay. From breakfast, to breakfast staff. The restaurants, all amenities were just fantastic. The level of patience from shuttles/bus was beautiful. The drivers were awesome, kind, patient and always willing to assist.

Feedback on our stay at Cabanas – Sun City - 19-21Sep25 Unfortunately, our stay at the Cabanas was disappointing compared to the other wonderful hotels at Sun City. The rooms, meant for 2 adults and a sleeper couch suitable for 2 small kids, were mostly occupied by 4 adults, leading to overcrowding. This made the hotel feel more like a hostel at times. The dining area was chaotic, food was average, and the eggs sat out for hours. Attention to detail, making the buffet more "attractive" is needed. I actually had no appetite looking the bulk food and the long Q's.... The pool area was overcrowded as well, with loud music blasting all day long. While some may enjoy a party vibe, the DJ should be more mindful of the diverse types of guests staying at the hotel. Another issue was that, due to the overcrowding, many guests were taking alcohol back to their rooms, partying late into the night, and creating a lot of noise. If this is positioned as a family hotel, there should be better control and stricter enforcement to ensure all guests can rest peacefully. The rooms themselves are tired and in need of attention, and the grounds could be much better maintained. What makes this more disappointing is that the price difference between the Cabanas and the Cascades is not very big — yet the Cascades offers a far superior experience in every way. For the price paid, the Cabanas does not feel worthwhile. It’s a pity, because Sun City has so many amazing hotels — but sadly, the Cabanas does not measure up. I will unfortunately not be back and will not recommend this hotel.

Totally disappointed with my experience at the Cabanas. Booked 2 rooms. Other guests which looked like students lingering around our patio entrance, loud music, other student like guest with alcohol bottles in hand almost everywhere. The look and feel of the place inside and out isn't appealing. Bathroom had an odour. Colours in room kills the elegance. It's just not worth the price. Let's not even mention the breakfast. Flies on the food, on the milk jug. Queues are so long, dining area is so noisy. Never to return. I will definitely share my experience with family and friends. I don't need a response or feedback. Thx

This was a difficult review since there were some good times and some not so good. I booked 5 nights at the Cabanas for our family of 4, and forked out about R25k, coming from KZN. The main attraction for us was the Valley of the Waves. Unfortunately, they don't have the varied food choices but we were forced to buy lunch because of a ridiculous rule of no food/drinks allowed. Traveling with kids on longish holidays is hard enough then to be faced by these rules is just unnecessary. Afterall is it not the message from the GM that visitors must have a fantastic experience...I suppose this is for the affluent accommodations. At breakfast, besides the eggs, cheeses and pastries, nothing else really was yummy. If you don't golf or gamble, care for yet another bush tour, a much to see about nothing river boat cruise, you're left with the valley of the waves, and by day 2 that too was enough. I must say the staff, and I mean all of them that we encountered were so friendly and helpful. The room was maintained meticulously and the breakfast area clean. The pool was also very nice. If we could afford better accommodations in the future at Sun City, I probably wouldn't return.

We love Sun City so much but the standard of the rooms at the Cabanas is just not good enough for the price paid. Maybe 5 years ago the standards were great but now in this age. No. The rooms are not good enough. With chipped tiling, and a tacky blue light that ruines the atmosphere in the rooms, no windows, broken fans in the toilets. This was a family holiday turned into nothing but frustration. While looking forward to the breakfast buffet, the bacon was dry and looked like biltong, the pastries were stale (we needed to warm them in the toaster to enjoy them) and the bran muffins so hard and dry, wasted two because the first one was so bad ,I thought it was just by chance so took another and even worse. The selection of breakfast buffet layout needs adjustments and updates as this is not a cheap breakfast- this is the same boring buffet from 10 or even 15 years ago. Its bland with poor choice of yoghurt brands making the yoghurt taste cheap and flavourless and a coffee station that makes no sense amd still serves cold coffee even with hot milk. The care to detail is just not up to scratch- this ruined our only holiday for the 2025. So disappointing! Things we tried to appreciate were: -Not all but the prompt staff Things we wish were included: -Friendly welcome -information upon book in, for example, letting us know which block our room unit was in and actually pointing out for us, instead we were told which unit amd just left to figure it out. -Details which have changed communicated accurately. For example the refundable towel hire which changed at The Valley of The Waves. If we didn't ask we would never have known. Our experience at your Cabanas was most disappointing and felt like a waste of money which we could've used elsewhere. This was a ruined experience.

Family breakaway. 10 - 12 October 2025 This was not my first time at Sun City but I think this will be my last time. You go with the mindset to have a peaceful family weekend getaway to rest but not quite what we experienced. During check in no information provided. Not very friendly staff. Johannes the porter was the friendly and helpful staff member. The noise levels at the hotel is very unpleasant and disturbing. The loud music blasting all day especially the Friday was loud, while some may enjoy a party vibe, the DJ should be more mindful of the diverse type of guest staying at the hotel. The first night the guests next to us slamming doors kids playing and shouting in the passage at 11 pm. Had to call reception. The Saturday night the hotel next to Cabanas had a party at the pool and again very loud music. The sleeper couch looks dirty and is torn on the folds. I dont think it gets cleaned and a 15 yr old and up will not be able to sleep on it or only suitable for one child. Day visitors at the hotel pool? Lady undressed, exposing her to everyone to put her dry close on just to get on the bus to the main gate/parking. Staff just left her to stand naked for over 10 min infront of other guest and kids. I thought day visitors are not allowed at the hotel pool as a hotel guest it is exclusive use for hotel guests only. No towels at 16:00 in room had to ask and was told they dont have towels we must wait. After making a fuss housekeeping took towels out of another room at 20:40 we received more towels. Went for a family breakaway to rest but came back tired do to not sleeping properly. Breakfast was very nice, but the staff is very rude and unpleasant. NO EXCLUSIVENESS Not worth the money that you pay to stay at hotel.
